Kotai Jingu, also known as Ise Jingu Naiku or Inner Sanctuary, is a significant Shinto site in Japan. Nestled within a forest, this complex comprises multiple shrines that exude solemnity and high reverence. The shrine's architecture seamlessly blends with its natural surroundings, creating an atmosphere akin to a divine abode. Visitors can also witness the presence of a sacred horse that once received the emperor.
Very tranquil, even with the crowds of people, and very spiritual. The importance of the site and sanctuaries is really felt here. Everybody who worked here was really eager to help and we were provided with maps in English which gave a description of the different shrines and sanctuaries and a route to follow while exploring the shrine. They also let us know before going in that there were no signs in English and afterwards they asked us a few questions about our experience so that they can improve the experience for visitors going forward. We really felt like people wanted us to explore the culture here and leave with a knowledge of the local customs and beliefs. It was a really enjoyable and informative experience.

Ise Jingu: A Sacred Sanctuary of Timeless Spirituality Ise Jingu (Ise Grand Shrine) is not just a shrine—it’s a living embodiment of Japan’s spiritual heart, where nature, tradition, and divinity intertwine in perfect harmony. As the most sacred Shinto site in Japan, dedicated to Amaterasu-ōmikami (the Sun Goddess), it offers an unparalleled experience of serenity, reverence, and connection to the eternal. Here’s why it deserves a flawless 5-star review for its profound spiritual essence: 1. A Divine Link to Japan’s Soul Ise Jingu is said to house the Yata no Kagami (Sacred Mirror), one of the Three Imperial Regalia of Japan, symbolizing Amaterasu’s presence. Pilgrims have visited for over 2,000 years, believing the shrine to be a direct bridge between humanity and the kami (gods). The atmosphere hums with an indescribable purity—every step along the forested paths feels like walking through a sacred dream. 2. The Ritual of Rebirth: Shikinen Sengū Every 20 years, the shrine’s inner and outer sanctuaries (Naikū and Gekū) are completely rebuilt in an ancient ritual called Shikinen Sengū. This practice, unchanged since 690 AD, reflects the Shinto belief in renewal, impermanence (mono no aware), and the cyclical nature of life. Witnessing this tradition—or even knowing it exists—adds a deep, metaphysical dimension to the visit, reminding us that divinity is eternal, even as its forms change. 3. Nature as Sacred Architecture Unlike grand temples adorned with gold, Ise Jingu’s beauty lies in its simplicity and harmony with nature. The shrine’s cypress wood structures, thatched roofs, and unpainted timber follow Yuitsu-Shinmei-zukuri, a style reserved only for Ise. The surrounding ancient cedar forests are considered part of the shrine itself, with the Isuzu River acting as a purifying boundary. The act of crossing the Uji Bridge symbolizes leaving the mundane world behind. 4. A Pilgrimage of Purification Visiting Ise Jingu is a spiritual cleanse. Before approaching the inner shrine, pilgrims perform misogi (ritual purification) at the river, washing hands and mouth to purify body and mind. The act of bowing, clapping, and offering a prayer (norito) at the main hall is a moment of profound stillness—where time seems to pause, and the kami feel palpably near. 5. The Energy of Ujiyamada & Oharai-machi The surrounding town, Ujiyamada, and the Oharai-machi district leading to the shrine, are extensions of its sacred energy. Traditional shops serve akafuku mochi (red bean rice cakes), said to be blessed by the gods, while local craftsmen create omamori (charms) infused with Ise’s spiritual power. Even the air here feels different—lighter, clearer, as if touched by the divine. Final Verdict Ise Jingu is more than a destination; it’s a soul experience. Whether you’re drawn by Shinto mysticism, the hypnotic chants of priests, or the whispering forest that seems to breathe with the kami, this shrine transcends time. For those seeking a place where heaven and earth meet, Ise Jingu is nothing short of perfection.

A vast shrine with 2 main shrines (Naiku/Inner Shrine & Geku/ Outer Shrine) & several more shrines. The Inner Shrine is formally known as Kotai Jingu & is dedicated to the sun goddess, Amaterasu Omikami. This spiritual place is definitely worth the visit. Loved how it is surrounded by nature. Definitely a must visit when in Ise.
Aibi Y — Google review
A beautiful place. You won't be able to see the very heart of these holy grounds and the photos around the shrines are forbidden (which is understandable). However, you may be able to see a hen in the woods and insanely clear pond with majestic fish swimming around, which is also alright.
Zuzanna Z — Google review
Considered the most sacred of all shinto shrine, it consists or 2 parts, the Naiku(inner shrine) and the Geku (outer shrine). Quick fact, the shrine is rebuild every 20 years as part of their eternal revival. Do note that there's no photo in the inner scantum of the shrine
Alex W — Google review
For those who are not Japanese: please be prepared to dress respectfully, act respectfully, and talk respectfully within the shrine! I saw one white girl tourist wearing revealing tube top within the shrine today, it’s probably taken as disrespectful act by locals. Please clean your both hands and your mouth at the entrance, people do vow before and after entering the torii gate, (supposed to) not walk the center part of the street after passing the gate (supposingly the center is where gods walk). No taking pictures if it says so. This shrine is not a tourist spot like some other shrines. Please be respectful! Thank you. I know it is for all the other shrines and temples too, but this shrine is really something else for Japanese people. Goddess Amaterasu is known to be the most fierce Goddess. The way to pray: two 90 degree vows, two hand claps, and one more vow at the end to close the 🙏!

Kotai Jingu (Ise Jingu Naikū, Inner Sanctuary) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Visiting Ise Jingu Naikū is one of those experiences that stays with you long after you leave. As a frequent traveler who has seen sacred and historic sites across continents, I found the atmosphere here to be unlike anywhere else — deeply spiritual, serene, and humbling. The walk through the towering cedar-lined paths sets the tone before you even reach the Inner Sanctuary. Photography is restricted near the most sacred areas, which only adds to the sense of reverence and respect. Even without photos, the memory of standing in such a spiritually powerful place is unforgettable. What impressed me most was how seamlessly the grounds balance accessibility for visitors while preserving the sanctity of the shrine. Staff and volunteers are welcoming, and there’s a quiet efficiency in the way the site is maintained. For travelers, I recommend allowing plenty of time here — not just to see the shrine itself, but also to explore the surrounding town of Ise and its traditional streets. This is a destination worth making part of a broader journey through Japan’s cultural heartland. Spiritual Atmosphere: 5/5 Accessibility & Grounds: 5/5 Overall Experience: 5/5

Nestled in the heart of Ise, Okage Yokocho is a delightful destination that whisks visitors back to the charm of the Edo and Meiji periods. This enchanting area features replica wooden buildings that house an array of craft stores and restaurants, offering a taste of traditional Japanese culture. As you stroll through this recreated village, you'll discover teahouses and shops brimming with local delicacies like Japanese candies and folk crafts.
This is an atmospheric shopping district just outside the Inner Shrine of Ise, hugged by low hills and the sparkling clean Isuzu River. The variety of shops is only overshadowed by the universal quality of all the products. There are gifts, souvenirs, juices, fresh food, snacks, lots of seafood and shellfish, traditional sweets, and lots more. It all looks like the Edo Period, great to lunch or dine before or after your visit to the shrine
Emiel H — Google review
Great streets to have a relaxing walk with loads of different places to have light meals. The traditional buildings were amazing, and such an eye opener. Went down on a weekday at about 230pm and parking was still available. Shops close between 430pm to 5pm so make sure you get your souvenirs & snacks by then.

Some beautiful Edo period buildings set along the bank of the river - but heaving with people. Still, it's worth a visit once you've seen the temples and shrines etc in the area. The best part is by the river, preferably from a nice coffee shop. You'll also find the usual assortment of food and tourist items. There's no fee to enter this shopping area.

A great place to look around for souvenirs & food. Several restaurants can be found here too. There were many cute cat decors here too. Definitely a must see for cat lovers.

During our visit to Ise, we loved exploring Okage Yokocho, a charming traditional street just near the Ise Grand Shrine. Walking down the cobblestone paths lined with old wooden buildings and glowing red lanterns really made us feel like we had stepped back in time. The street was filled with all kinds of shops selling local products, souvenirs, and delicious treats. We couldn’t resist trying the famous Akafuku mochi, a soft rice cake topped with sweet red bean paste—a true local favorite that’s been around for centuries. We also enjoyed some Ise udon and freshly made croquettes from a popular spot called Butasute. Even though the street was lively with visitors, it still felt peaceful enough to take our time browsing and chatting with the friendly shopkeepers. We even joined a little workshop to make traditional moss balls (kokedama), which was a fun way to get hands-on with the culture. If you’re visiting Ise, Okage Yokocho is a must-see. It’s a great place to shop, eat, and soak up the warm, historic atmosphere of the area. We really enjoyed every moment there.

A great variety of food, gifts and souvenirs. Right outside the Grand Shrine entrance. Make sure you go all the way to the end (away from the shrine) for fresh grilled seafood. Also visit the side streets. Try the black sugar dango for something different.

Strange place - a replica of a traditional village but with sweetshops, giftshops and cafes There are some very nice restaurants, including Tofuya, Haikarasan and Noasobi Dana.

A very famous food street that I wanted to go and finally was able to. There were so many different shops it was so fun to look at each one of them. I loved eating around getting a little bit of food at different restaurants. I also really loved the stores which had vintage items or cutlery and pottery. They also had a stamp rally going on so my friend and I decided to enter it and this was a very good choice because it allowed us to motivate ourselves to actually complete the mission which made us walk a lot. Since the different stamps are scattered around the whole area we had to go from one side to another which was great exercise without even knowing we were exercising.

Nestled along the stunning coastline, Futamiokitama Shrine is a captivating Shinto shrine that offers breathtaking views of the ocean and the iconic 'wedded rocks,' known as Meoto Iwa. As you approach this serene site, you'll be greeted by an enchanting landscape adorned with frog sculptures and lined with majestic Japanese cypress trees. This picturesque journey leads to a place where pilgrims traditionally begin their ritual purification before heading to the revered Ise Jingu.
Free parking lot but limited spacings. A queue was seen at around 3.30pm on 11.11.2024, presumably visitors came waiting for the sunset. The shrine was sacred. The landscape was beautiful. Frog sculptures everywhere. It's pleasant to strolling around admiring the area.

A beautiful shrine near the seaside. To receive the goshuin (temple seal) written directly, you need to purchase a goshuincho (stamp book); otherwise, only a sticker version is available. Each costs 300 yen.
Selena ( — Google review
Futami Okitama Shrine is a serene and spiritually enriching destination that beautifully blends natural beauty with deep Shinto traditions. Nestled along the stunning shores of Ise Bay, the shrine offers breathtaking views of the iconic Meoto Iwa (Wedded Rocks), a pair of sacred rocks bound by a massive shimenawa rope, symbolizing marital harmony and the union of divine forces . The coastal setting provides a tranquil atmosphere, especially at sunrise or sunset, when the golden light reflects off the ocean, creating a mesmerizing scene . One of the highlights is the shrine’s proximity to Ise Jingu, Japan’s most sacred Shinto site. Historically, pilgrims would purify themselves here before visiting Ise Jingu, a tradition that continues today with symbolic rituals like "Mukushiobarai" (purification with sacred salt) . The spiritual energy of the place is palpable, whether you’re walking among the many frog statues (symbols of safe returns and good fortune) or standing before the Hinode Worship Site, where a sacred stone submerged offshore is said to hold divine power . A short distance away, Spain Village (Shima Spain Mura) adds a fun contrast to the spiritual journey, offering a whimsical European-themed park for those seeking a lighthearted break . However, the true magic lies in the shrine’s seaside mystique—the rhythmic waves, the sacred rocks, and the lingering sense of reverence make it a must-visit for anyone exploring Ise. While the shrine itself is free to enter, some areas (like the rope-changing ceremonies in May, September, and December) add seasonal charm . The only minor drawback is the limited parking, but the short walk from JR Futaminoura Station is pleasant and scenic . A spiritually uplifting and visually stunning spot, perfect for those seeking tranquility, cultural depth, and a connection to Japan’s ancient Shinto roots. Don’t miss the chance to soak in the ocean views and the sacred aura of this unique shrine.

We visited the shrine on a weekday late morning. We drove in and used the free parking space right next to the entrance – although we had to wait about 10 minutes for a spot. The car parking has around 20 spaces. Due to the narrow streets, it's a good idea to bring a smaller car. The shrine itself was stunning, beautifully situated right by the water. We also spotted another entrance on the opposite side.

4.5 stars In the winter, it's very cold and windy. Not crowded on Friday afternoon in December. We took CAN bus from Naiku-mae to Ise Sea Paradise -mae, approx. 26 minutes, then passed through a carpark, and walked 3-4 minutes to Futamiura Jinja Shrine. There are many statues of frog around the shrine. Frogs are symbols of a safe journey to home. Japanese come here to purify their spirit and body at the Futamiura beach first or buy special salt at the shrine instead before going to IseJigu (伊勢神宮). At 青津屋, pouring water onto the staues of the green frogs in 水手舍 make your dreams become true. Meotoiea: Two Wedded Rocks are in the sea off Futami Okitama Jinja Shrine. Now, they represent happy marriage. The shrine sells amulets for marital harmony. From May to July: The sun rises exactly between 2 rocks. From November to January: The full moon appears between 2 rocks 龍宮神社 Ryugusha shrine is an other shrine in this area to worship the god of sea (綿津見大神) for the safety in the sea. Transport: 1) Mie Kotsu Bus CAN bus (or Bus 41 from Iseshi station to Toba direction) to Ise Sea Paradise Mae hourly at daytime only. Last visit, Ise Sea Paradise's door (facing carparks) was locked, so we didn't enter this shopping mall. The formal main entrance is facing the sea. 2)15 minutes walks from JR Futaminoura station, there is Tourist information office, some shops and Hinjitsukan along the way. But, some shops were closed on Friday afternoon in December. It's very quiet. 3) by car, free carparks available.

🌊⛩️ Futami Okitama Shrine, standing by the sea in Ise✨ Famous for the “Meoto Iwa” — the Wedded Rocks — this sacred place is known for blessings of love, marriage, and good fortune💑 You’ll find cute frog statues 🐸 all around the shrine, symbolizing safe returns and happiness💫 Watching the sunrise between the two rocks feels truly divine☀️✨ Before visiting Ise Grand Shrine, pilgrims have long purified themselves here at Futami Beach — a tradition called Hama-miyamairi🌅

I've wanted to visit this place for a long time, and today I finally made it, and I loved it. It's a sacred tourist spot, surrounded by the immense Pacific Ocean, where you can relax and feel the total protection and radiance of the divine universe. It seems simple, but it's full of content. I saw tourists from all over the world. If there were more options, I would definitely give it ten stars 🌟. Many thanks to God first and foremost, and to Japan for introducing incredible places like this 🙏🧡

Nestled in the heart of Ise, the Sengukan Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Japan's ancient traditions, particularly the Shikinen Sengu ritual. This centuries-old practice involves reconstructing the sacred Jingu shrine every 20 years, a tradition that dates back to 690 CE. The museum serves as a tribute to this remarkable event and showcases an impressive collection of artifacts related to Shikinen Sengu.
Very beautiful museum on the history and making of Ise Shrine. Educational for knowledge oriented travelers. No photography inside the museum though. The building and the garden itself will be suffice to make an impression on your journey.
Jason H — Google review
I was very dissappointed. The museum itself is beautiful, very interesting and has a lot of informative films and digital, interactive screens. However apart from a very short pamphlet there is no foreign language explanation or support. And using phones is prohibited, so one can not even translate it. As the museum is so modern, I feel like this is an active decision. As a foreigner with deep interest in Japan but no N1 language proficiency, one is basically forced to just walk through quickly, missing out on most information and feeling excluded.
Dominik H — Google review
The museum is beautiful and seems very well documented but it is a shame that a museum located in such a touristic venue as Ise Jingu doesn’t have any English translated content even not a leaflet…
Mathilde H — Google review
English was available. I see other reviews mentioned no English, however this is no longer the case. I was given a free English leaflet which gave a good outline of most of the musuem, and I was also given an English book that gives an introduction to shinto-ism.
Isaac K — Google review
The audio guide for non-Japanese speakers as advertised on the website is no longer available. There is no foreign language support whatsoever, but the museum is inexpensive so maybe still worth visiting if you're in the area and have time.
Natalie J — Google review
It's beautiful. The displays and presentation and everything are beautiful, but unless your Japanese is very good you'd be better off to buy a guide book to the history, ceremonies, and architecture of the Jingu. The audio guide mostly just tells you what things are without explaining any meaning.

Toyouke Daijingu (Ise Jingu Geku, Outer Sanctuary) is a vast and ancient complex in Ise City, surrounded by lush trees and a river. It consists of two Shinto shrines, with the Toyoke Grand Shrine, also known as the Outer Shrine, being dedicated to Toyoke Omikami.
You're greeted by a sense of calm and awe as you walk through the torii and past the small bridge. While we came here during golden week and it was certainly buzzing from extra activity, this place still kept much of its sacred energy. You could feel the coolness, the aura of the big trees watching over its guests and the shrines they surround, the chi of the ancestors who protect the area, and the care of those who dedicate themselves to preserving the sanctity of the area. If you're looking to visit a shrine and not feel overwhelmed, this is definitely the place to come. So beautiful 😊

It’s nice to walk around the park. It’s very peaceful. But all the shrines are basically the same. The Goshuin is not really impressive (500¥)

The reason Ise Shrine is considered a sacred place is because it is a shrine dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami, the supreme deity in Japanese Shintoism, and has a deep connection with the Imperial family.
Miwa S — Google review
Must see for anyone interested in Shinto shrines. Maybe a little boring if you're not interested but the ambience is still amazing. I absolutely adored the nature in the area. The bus there and back comes once an hour or so so don't be late.
Sam B — Google review
One of, if not the holiest place for the Japanese indigenous belief system 'Shinto'. The first of two complexes that form the ancient ' Ise Jingu', believed to be connected to the sun goddess, from whom the Emperor is traditionally considered a descendant of. This is the outer complex , with the inner complex down the road. You can get there via bus from just outside the shrine grounds. Seemingly made of only wood and thatch , the design is very simple compared to the complexes you've seen in Kyoto or Nara, and even other smaller Shinto shrines scattered around Japan. The emphasis is on the beauty of natural materials and the surrounding woods.

Udon-ya Fukusuke is a bustling udon shop in Ise, offering outdoor seating and renowned for its soft, thick noodles paired with locally brewed beer. The restaurant's specialty lies in its Ise-style udon, featuring minimal broth and hearty noodles. Diners flock to Fukusuke for its delectable dipping sauce, meticulously crafted with natural soy sauce and bonito flakes to achieve a well-balanced and rich flavor profile.
There are many Ise udon shops in Okage Yokocho area but this is probably the most famous one. The handmade noodle typically sells out before noon. That one and the tsukimi (raw egg) are most popular.
JK A — Google review
I only had the most basic of Ise Udon so it's difficult to go into a lot of detail, but the trademarks of Ise Udon sit very well with my palate. The noodles are thick and yet soft (for those who don't know, that's how they are supposed to be) and the soup is also thick and strong flavoured. The inside is very old fashioned with no real tables. Just pick an unoccupied bench, sit down and wait. Service is extra quick even on busy days.
Barry K — Google review
An udon shop with outdoor seats serving Ise Udon in Okage Yokocho. Ise Udon is known for serving with thicker udon noodles and Tamari soy sauce. I ordered the Tsukimi udon, which means moon viewing udon. It is a simple yet flavourful dish. While the sauce alone is leaning sweet-salty, the egg yolk mellows it out, creating a thick sauce that clings to the udon well, similar to the concept of raw egg yolk in sukiyaki. The udon noodles were thicker than usual, soft and a little rough on the exterior and tastes great while slurping with the sauce. Adding the shichimi on the side gives the dish a slight tinge of heat and evens out some sweetness and saltiness even further. It is a great place to try Ise Udon and the quantity is not too much that you are unable to enjoy other foods and desserts in Okage Yokocho.
Kai G — Google review
A popular restaurant in Okage Yokocho that serves Ise Udon. We queued for about 15 minutes. The line was long but it moves faster than expected. You order first before finding a seat. They will give you a number which the staffs will call once the food is ready to know where you're seated. They will serve the food on your table. An outdoor type of restaurant with several tables available. They have different variety of Ise Udon to choose from. I ordered the Handmade Ise Udon which was served warm. The udon was thicker & soft. It blended well with the broth. Enjoyed our meal here.
Aibi Y — Google review
Great experience here, the food was great, there was an English menu available and the lady that too our order let us know how the order number is pronounced in Japanese for us to listen out for. We were able to pay by card and they were all really nice. There is complimentary green tea on the table too. We got the Udon Noodles with beef and the broth that was left in the bowl at the end was the nicest broth we have had in Japan. There was also a music performance going on right outside as we were having our meal which added to the traditional character of the meal and the experience overall!

Iconic udon noodle shop in the old town only serves traditional homemade udon, in hot or cold version, with meat, egg or just plain. All delicious.

At Udon Ya Fukusuke in Ise, I enjoyed a warm bowl of udon that truly captured authentic local flavors. The restaurant's udon is quite distinctive, with thicker noodles that offer a delightful chewiness and a hearty texture. The broth was rich and flavorful, perfectly complementing the noodles and adding a warm, comforting taste—especially enjoyable on a cold day. Overall, this bowl of udon provided a genuine taste of Japan that left a memorable impression. If you're in Ise, I highly recommend trying the udon at Udon Ya Fukusuke. I'm sure their traditional flavors will surprise and satisfy your taste buds!

Interesting atmosphere, super crowded, and you share tables with other people! The place was actually pretty big, but yes it's popular hence the crowd! But don't worry because turnover rate is really high, fast service! And the udon was worth the wait! It's soo nice and tasty, I think the udon texture is the best one I've had so far. Would love to bring friends and family here next time.

Ise-Shima National Park is a protected coastal area that encompasses cliffs, caves, and inlets, providing a habitat for ospreys, turtles, and cormorants. The park includes the revered Ise Shrine and stretches across the Ise Peninsula's coastline. It features a mix of natural beauty and human activity with boats on the horizon and pearl rafts dotting the seas.
This park is very large and have remarkable views. The environment is cool and shady with lots of trees and fresh air ... Prepare a good stamina for hiking along way to panorama viewpoint and also many other viewpoints too. Beautiful scenery around each viewpoints. There is so many interesting places to explore. Spend more time to enjoy the nature ...

Such a beautiful, calm and natural place. It was hot and there were a lot of people but we managed to find such magnificent in to simple beauty of this place. It was easy to navigate and walking through the tall trees was cooler on such a hot summer's day. Take time to marvel at the craftsmen that built this place.

Nestled near the south entrance of Okage Yokocho, Butasute is a culinary gem that has been delighting meat lovers since 1909. This unique establishment specializes in high-quality Ise beef, showcasing its dedication to premium Japanese black wagyu. The name "Butasute," which translates to "discarded pork," reflects the founder's preference for beef over pork, setting the tone for this beloved butcher shop.
The croquette potatoes are some of the best I've eaten. Sure they are small, but the flavour is very very good. They taste like they've been properly fried in good quality beef fat. The mince katsu is also pricey for size but is easily one of the, if not the best examples of this I've had in the country. Very very meaty and bursting with flavour.

When you enter the museum, you'll first feel a sense of time in its Renaissance-style building. The museum houses and displays decorations and treasures that have been removed from the shrine (offerings removed). These are rare items as they cannot be seen during shrine visits. These items are apparently made anew every 20 years during the Shikinen Sengu (yearly rebuilding of the shrine), allowing you to experience the traditional techniques and techniques used. There are three museums here: the Chokokan Museum, the Agriculture Museum, and the Art Museum. Discounted joint admission tickets are available, so why not visit them all at once? Built in 1909 (Meiji 42), the building itself is a testament to its history. Its Renaissance-style exterior exudes both elegance and beauty, and the mere entrance is enough to sober you up. The museum's exhibits feature many precious Jingu treasures that are not normally on display, including the sacred clothing and sacred treasures removed during the Shikinen Sengu (yearly rebuilding of the shrine), as well as the doors, chigi (wooden beams), and katsuogi (wooden beams) of the main shrine. Special exhibitions are also held, focusing on the seasons and the rebuilding of the shrine, offering a different perspective each time. The museum is easily accessible; take the bus from Naiku-mae Station to Chokokan-mae. We recommend taking your time to leisurely stroll around the exhibits. The explanatory panels are well-organized and easy to understand, even for beginners. The admission fee (500 yen for adults) is well worth it, considering the content. If you are a sake lover like us make sure to not miss this place. Tried amasake for the first time ever (both chilled and frozen) and instantly became a fan. ISE Sea Paradise, located in Ise next to the sea, offers an interactive experience with a variety of marine animals. Visitors can enjoy playing catch with dolphins, taking photos with certain animals, and watching shows featuring dolphins, walruses, and other marine creatures. The aquarium is popular for its seal that sticks out its tongue and allows guests to see and touch various sea animals up close. Guests can also watch performances by cute sea lions and receive kisses blown by walruses.
Dream destination for otter, seal, sea lion lover. Touching them make me could die a happy man. Surprisingly, they had no foul smell. Super soft otter hand comparable with little young child. Recommend 5 stars ++

Fun experience. Initially when I was researching I couldn’t find much info other than the website and it seems like a small aquarium. And was worrying it will be similar to Nagoya port aquarium. But after visiting it, I’m impressed by the set up. Yes although it’s a small aquarium, but the focus are on the seals and sea lions. There are many up close opportunities with them and there’s even one that allow you to pet them and take photo. Although it’s small but I felt it’s worth the experience and it’s very kids friendly. The entrance fee is a little expensive but it’s ok to support this place There is also a shopping plaza just beside it Lastly, for coin collectors, kinen medallions, this is the place. They have cute ones that depicts the ise aquarium and also the meoto iwa

Don't go there ! The animals don't have Space at all ! Dolphins in a 10m2 pool who seems to want to die, otters in a 5m2 box panic and go in circles, walruses in 5m² as well, same for almost all species... Tortues trying to escape etc. And thus the building is a ruin. Healers seem to take care of them, but it's not enough.

It's a fun place to visit with your kids. And the people who love animals will have a great time here. If you have enough time you can attend various interesting shows.
Sakun L — Google review
It was tough to be honest. First of all, the staff themselves get 5 stars. They obviously cared about and were very vested in doing their best for the animals and visitors. The aquarium itself has seen better days... A little worn down in places but again, the staff keep it clean and operational. I have to say though that I was very saddened by the size of the enclosures that the exhibits were kept in - larger fish could not turn around, turtles we're in tanks far too small for them, and the two dolphins were kept in a tiny pen which bordered on the heartbreaking. I I hope that the management can be supported to make some changes for the good of the animals and for the visitors
Dan T — Google review
Personally, I think I would prefer this aquarium to the one in Toba! The building is old and relatively small for an aquarium, but you can really enjoy being close to the animals. It was the first time I ever touched a seal. A very exciting and happy experience.

The allure of this sacred place lies not only in its spiritual reputation but also in its tranquil ambiance.

This is Tsukiyomi-gu (a branch shrine of the Outer Shrine of Ise Jingu). Ise Grand Shrine is renowned as a power spot. It consists of 125 shrines, including Kotaijingu (Inner Shrine) and Toyouke Daijingu (Outer Shrine), including branch shrines, auxiliary shrines, and subordinate shrines. The branch shrines are second in rank to the main shrine, with 10 in the Inner Shrine and 4 in the Outer Shrine. Tsukiyomi-gu is a branch shrine located outside the main shrine grounds, where the two deities Tsukiyomi-no-Mikoto and Tsukiyomi-no-Mikoto-Aramitama are enshrined in the same shrine building. Although it's located in the city, it's surrounded by camphor trees that are hundreds of years old, creating a tranquil atmosphere. Although there aren't many visitors, the dignified space is sobering. It only takes about 10 minutes to visit, so it's a great idea to combine it with your visit to the Outer Shrine.

Its enshrined deity is Tsukiyomi-no-Mikoto, the younger brother of Amaterasu Omikami, and the river god of Takagawara. Although the shrine is located in a residential area, the grounds are quiet and pure. The stone-paved approach and rows of old trees give it a different feel to the solemnity of the Geku. It is about a 10-minute walk from the Kitamikomon entrance of the Geku along Kamiji-dori Street. It is said that Tsukiyomi-no-Mikoto walked this road on his way to Toyouke-no-Omikami late at night. Yamatohime-no-miya Shrine, located within the Ise Jingu outer complex, offers a tranquil worship setting during the evening. Despite the absence of other worshipers, this relatively new Imperial Palace maintains a pristine appearance. Resembling a museum, it is encircled by a fence on its closed days. Walking through the deep forest of the main approach, you'll find the shrine at the back, up some stone steps, making for a peaceful visit. Yamatohime-gu Shrine is a branch shrine of the Inner Shrine of Ise Jingu. It's said that Yamatohime-no-Mikoto, the deity enshrined there, traveled from country to country in search of a place for Amaterasu Omikami to reside, eventually settling on the banks of the Isuzu River and laying the foundation for the founding of Ise Jingu Shrine. I received the goshuin (temple seal) at the Yadoya. Amulets are also available for purchase. Nearby are the Jingu Chokokan (temple hall), Jingu Agriculture Museum, and Jingu Art Museum, where you can experience the history and culture of the shrine. Exiting from the back approach is convenient as it's close by. By bus, get off in front of Chokokan and it's right there. By car, enter at the Yamatohime-mae traffic light on Miyuki Road. The parking lot next to the shrine is small, but the parking lot behind the Jingu Art Museum is larger and has restrooms.

(Translated by Google) I've visited the Inner and Outer Shrines of Ise Grand Shrine many times, but this was my first time visiting the auxiliary shrine. Yamatohime Shrine, though an auxiliary shrine, had the same solemn atmosphere as the main shrine. Even in the heat, passing through the torii gate felt calm and cool, like a different world. My family and I were able to safely complete our visit and were enveloped in a refreshing feeling. I highly recommend it!

(Translated by Google) After reading a book about Yamatohime, I wanted to visit. It's a beautiful shrine. She played an important role in Japanese mythology, traveling to worship Amaterasu Omikami and bestowing weapons on Yamato Takeru. It's located very close to the Chokokan Museum and the art museum, and there's a large parking lot. (Translated by Google) On October 13, 2025, I stopped by here on my way to Ise Shrine. I visited from the parking lot in front of the Jingu Chokokan, which can accommodate about three cars. You can receive one of the seven stamps related to Ise Shrine. It was a wonderful place with a calm atmosphere. Brewpub
Ise Kadoya microbrewery, known for its award-winning craft beers, including the prestigious IBA Gold Awards, is a must-visit spot in Ise, Mie Prefecture. This small yet renowned brewery opened its doors in 1997 and quickly gained international recognition by winning their first global beer prize just six years later.
As an American I am absolutely blown away. The beer easily matches what a great American brewer can make. Their NE IPA was absolutely fantastic. I had a large Oyster dish as well and everything was unique and flavorful. If you like beer then this is a place that you must go to when visiting Japan. Oh and it's in a very very old historic structure which just adds to everything.

After visiting Ise Grand Shrine, we found a bar called Ise Kadoya Beer in the nearby old street. The weather was extremely hot, so the seven of us immediately decided to order a drink to cool down. The IPA inside was decent, but what really stood out was a special beer made with sake yeast. It was incredibly refreshing with a slight sourness, very drinkable and enjoyable. This unexpected beer experience added a cool and delightful touch to our trip.

Amazing location and the meal was a great selection of delicious meals popular in the area. Had local oysters prepared steamed and fried with rice, salad and additional sides which were amazing 😍. I highly recommend it if you ever make it to this popular area in Ise-Shima.

The craft beer was awesome. The fried oysters were not bad but not that fresh. When you order beer at the store front, you can grab a seat at the seats near the entrance not the tables further inside. They are available for dinner.

I have eat a great quality and tasty Unagi with rice accompanied with an amazing soup broth and Japanese pickles. All of this in a Japanese style table in tatami. Great restaurant!

Came here on a pilgrimage as I really love their beer. Got a six beer tasting set and sat on the peaceful outdoor terrace at the back, overlooking the river. Heaven. Didn't try the food.

Randomly visit during trip to Ise. This restaurants offer one of the best Unagi that I have ever tasted. Unfortunately, I drove a car during this trip. Thus, I had no chance to taste the beer. :( My wife said beer is really good. Staff is really nice and welcome foreigner guests. Will come back in the future for sure.
