Our first visit to Spice Villa. Went there to order a take away. No need to heat up once home and we live 15 mins from Chard. Can honestly say that our food was totally delicious. Very generous portions too. Will definitely return. Thank you.

Wow! Amazing food and fantastic service. When we got the food it was steaming hot and even the smell made my mouth water! The food was delicious and left me feeling like a cow in a field full of grass. I also loved the design on the walls and the paintings were stunning! Will definitely be coming back when I visit.

Went while visiting family down near Chard a few weeks ago. Very friendly and speedy service and the food was great. I’m vegetarian and like both spice and a creamy sauce but most of the spicier dishes contained meat so I told the waiter (owner?) what I liked and they came up with a great custom dish! Will definitely visit again when back down south.

I visited on the Sunday Banquet night. The Sheekh kebab was full of flavour and was served with an accompanying yellow yoghurt sauce. The chicken tikha methi curry was very good, not too spicy but with a good consistency and flavour. The tarkha daal was also very good. At £15.95 all in, it was a substantial and very tasty meal. The service was attentive.

We moved from Halifax in May so didn't know anything about the restaurants in Chard. Went for evening food with friends when they came to stay from Manchester and were of the opinion that the food was even better than the best we'd found "up north". Obviously freshly cooked and flavoursome, plenty of it and hot (temperature not spice). Plenty to choose from. The service was great even though there was only one waiter. The person we assumed was the chef came out at 100 miles an hour and in filthy clothes. Note to boss - if your chef is coming out to serve, make sure he's wearing clean clothes or provide an apron as it was a bit off putting. Overall a really good meal but not cheap. However we're of the opinion that you get what you pay for. PS. They serve alcohol even if the cider is in tins!

Very tasty Indian right on Chard high street. Well presented and moorish, flavoursome curries and side dishes, tender well-cooked meat, fluffy chewy naans.. We had king prawn masala, chicken jalfrezi, mixed starter, naan popadoms etc. all really good - blew our other recent Indian meals out the water.

We had dinner when passing through one evening. The food is superb. I highly recommend stopping here. The service is excellent too. We had scallops 3 ways, popcorn Korean chicken and massaman curry with lamb shank. There was nothing left on our plates it was so good!

Just had the BEST stay here. Easiest 5 star ever and would have given them more if we could. Lovely room, great food, superb coffee and even better owners who couldn’t do enough for us. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I stayed here for the night for work (but took the family along as they were all off school/ work too). The company I work for often stay at this hotel and I can see why. The room we stayed in (family room) had the sofa bed put out. It was enough for us for the night. Snug, but perfect for the night. The bathroom was so beautiful! My husband checked in while I was at work, so didn't get a pic of the room before it was taken over by suitcases and "stuff" and hence the poor sofa bed photo. There was plenty of biscuits, tea and coffee and even bottled water - still and sparkling. There's was a shower cap and shower gel available too. We had to pre order our breakfast, but there was an amazing selection. Croissants, toast, cereal, fruit, and then the usual of bacon, sausage, egg, tomato, mushrooms, black pudding and beans. To drink there was tea, coffee and fruit juices too. All were super yummy! And we were offered top ups of the drinks and told to ask should we need or want anything more. The staff were so lovely!!!! All were extremely friendly, attentive and kind. Correspondence was fast and efficient too. From the moment I called to enquire about the room to the moment we checked out. Mine and my husband's separate experiences were faultless and we would tell each other how amazing we thought everyone and everything was. We highly recommend staying here!! Lovely people!!

I’ve been staying at the bath house due to weekly work travel. Hospitality has been outstanding. Rooms are cosy. Food is lovely.

We ordered from you guys tonight. We normally have great food from you, but after this evening we won’t be back. We ordered salt and pepper chips.. which did not come looking like what i thought they would after seeing a photo online of your salt and pepper chips.. hence why i ordered them, i couldn’t even eat them they had that much seasoning and salt on, absolutely disgusting and the sausage looked like it had been cooked for 1,000 years. waste of money. i would also like to add that there’s a lady behind the counter who is so rude, we’ve noticed this every time we have come and ordered from you. a little kindness doesn’t go far.

Worst chippy I've ever had by time I got home and took the fish out it had a new layer of skin made out of paper and it was that floppy i thought it was going to come back to life, now on the phone to my local sea life centre to see if they are missing any cod. The chips were crap with a mouth full of oil on my lips, over priced condiments and just terrible meal in general!!!!

Orders a large portion of chips and the size i got was far from. Had to feed 3 people from this. Had a few issue but let them slide. Enough is enough now.

First time my fish was missing from my order . Second time my battered sausages missing from order ? . Phoning shop on both occasions no answer . Don't use this chip shop ! They print out their orders and you can see it on till screen ...no excuses !!🤬🤬🤬

An above average restaurant for dine- in/ take away Indian Food. Limited dining space, so I guess you need to choose your time for dinner carefully. A 8.5/10, excellent Daal with enough garlic to notice. Above average chicken biriyani with an excellent vegetable side curry. The keema Naan was good too. If the biriyani had been served in a traditional biriyani dish, it would be even better. Good , friendly service. Food washed down with iced water, the drink of lions . I hope to try other dishes there soon and support this local restaurant, as I live in Chard part of the time now.

We put in a order at 10:10pm and received a text at 10.35 saying that they couldn't accept our order. Which left us no time to order from anywhere else and now we have to wait 3-5 day for our money back

If I could put 0 stars I would. Tried to over charge us and wouldn’t advise us of the cost difference when comparing the prices to their menu. Weren’t helpful. Then tried added even more to the total cost for delivery that apparently wasn’t included originally. We cancelled our order.

Just ordered - delivery was super fast! Can't fault that at all. Real shame the food is awful. Probably the worst 2 curries I've tasted. Tesco ready meal curries taste nicer - genuinely. Can taste the tomato ketchup they've used in the tikka masala. Maybe they just got these two dishes wrong so perhaps order something else if you really want to order from here. Advice - just make your own butter chicken and chicken tikka masala, will taste better. Feel robbed of my 30 odd pounds. Garlic naan is alright but nothing special. Very disappointing overall - going to soldier through now as I'm hungry but this is a wildly disappointing Saturday night lol Edit - delivery driver was friendly as a bonus Edit after finishing - my mouth tastes like I've had to do a drinking game forfeit of a shot of apple cider vinegar. Do with that what you will

Really disappointing meal, for starters one of the naan breads was not what we ordered, I called to ask for a replacement and was essentially gaslit by them telling me I was wrong and that it was definitely the naan bread I ordered despite me telling them clearly multiple times it wasn't (it absolutely wasn't what I ordered). So not a great start, the naan breads themselves were cold in the centre and very doighy. In fact most of our meal was cold or lukewarm at best which considering I picked it up from the restaurant and we were their only order at the time is pretty shocking. The Curry itself had actually separated which was pretty unpleasant, the flavours were not awful but certainly not worth the money. We also ordered a biriyani, the meat in it was well cooked and the flavours of the rice were okay but the curry that came with it was as bland as Bath water. For some reason we ordered chips, we shouldn't have, they were essentially oil torpedoes disguised as chips, they also got soaked by all the water that separated from the curry which possibly improved them? Hard to tell. My partner kept trying to make me feel better about wasting my money on this by saying "well it was edible" so I suppose Curry House have got that going for them, they make edible food. All that said, the mint dip was top tier so good job. The dip paired with the leftover Pataks poppadoms we had in the cupboard was honestly the highlight of my edible meal.

We’ve ordered a couple of times and never got disappointed, usually we always order the same the chicken korma is very tasty as well as the sides and and the bread. The service is quite good however the portions are small compared with the price.

Good pizzas have used them a lot and most of the time they are spot on. But have had a few with the toppings a bit on the skinny side. Delivery has been very good. Potato wedges are not good.

Can't fault these guys. Pizza is always good, delivery is pretty quick amd the 1 time I had an item missing they sent it straight out.

Always helpful, Food reasonably quick and always hot. Toilet was always out of order but this time it was ok, so hopefully only problem has now been fixed.

It took nearly an hour! My whole family was starving! We ended up waiting by the window staring out like puppies and opened the door as it pulled up. BUT fantastic pizza. Filling. Tasty. Topping to sauce ratio couldn't be better. I don't know if it was because we were so hungry but I don't remember dominos ever tasting better

Freshly made pizza could have been nice but the service was bad. Kept waiting for 40 mins, I was the only person in the shop and told it would be a 20 min wait. After 40 I asked where it was and they replied "Oh is that yours" I was the only one in the shop? Luke warm pizza thank you.

They don't take cash ........ I assume it's policy across-the-board....... Cash is king they've lost a regular customer this evening......

Decent sized pub with a welcoming landlord and frequented by friendly locals. Nice and reasonably priced pub grub (Sunday roast highly recommended). Nice open fire that gets lit in the winter. Beer garden with kids play area out back. Car parking available. Very dog friendly, the 'help yourself' policy to the dog treats jar means your good boy or girl will get spoilt by the locals.

Lovely traditional pub. Friendly staff, Landlord and Landlady very welcoming. Great atmosphere at all times. Nice crowd if people. Child and Dog Friendly. Live music, pool table and darts. Skittle alley / function room and the food is homecooked fresh to order. This place has really been turned around in the past 2 years. Well done guys. 👍

I was so excited when I heard this place had young new management, but I shouldn't have bothered. Under stocked,since day one, nothing happening there, empty week after week, attracting no new custom whatsoever, staff are friendly enough but just serve, and then go back to their permanent little clique, talking with each other, and nothing else. All this place really is, is a place for three or four best friends to have a roof over their heads....

It so unusual to find a traditional friendly locals pub in town. Landlord excellent mine host. Open all day every day including xmas day. Roaring fire in grate and dog friendly. Love this pub.

Food very good value for money. Very acceptable quality - only complaint that mash potato had some lumps in it! Staff very polite and attentive for this sort of dining experience (order and pay for food at the bar). I did find it a bit strange that they don't appear to serve desserts, though.

Great selection of drinks at reasonable prices! Very relaxed with a good vibe! Nice food on offer and a shop inside also to purchase Portuguese products

If you want to have the best portuguese food experience, I recommend you go to A Lusitana Restaurant 😋. Everything is really tasty, and all the staff are very friendly. Definitely go back.

Fab place to eat, cant see how you could feel more like you are in Portugal than here. ! Visited last year and couldn't wait to try it again this year, on our annual visit to Chard. Already looking forwards to next year !!

Fantastic food! The man who waited on us was an excellent resource for recommendations on food and wine and was so kind. We had a really lovely meal at Saraiva's and will definitely go back if we're in the area again. We had two different versions of the roasted chicken and both were absolutely delicious.

Third time I've visited over a 2 year period to buy a cake or hot pastry and the food has been burnt and bland. Chelsea buns should not be hard and dry. The base of the Cornish pasty was black & burnt, had to bin it as it tasted disgusting. Not returning again and will take my money to better cafés! If you think the cakes are nice than you've not tried other places!

this is the best bakery around, everything iv had has been very fresh and very nice. ice buns are to die for, melt in the mouth fresh they are such a treat.

Quite possibly the best sandwiches/rolls etc we've ever had. I bought a poppy seed baguette with chicken, bacon, mayo and salad it was £4ish and it was practically a loaf, it easily fed me and my 3 girls (all 11yrs+ with healthy appetites). Good value, Good food, Lovely staff, Our 3yr old recommends the iced buns

Me and my boyfriend come here all the time, by far the best bakery we’ve ever come across. The filled rolls are FILLED, the cakes are fresh and made with love, you really get your moneys worth here. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Used to be a really good Chinese. The prices have gone up and the quality right down. Shredded chicken has next to no taste OR chicken in. My friend got food poisoning as well a few months ago. Best avoided, shame it’s gone downhill so quickly.

the Honey Spiced Chicken is really nice only sometimes the chicken is a bit tough(overdone) so tasty though have to put up with it.

Delivered hot food was tasty salt n pepper chips a little too salty. Would order again. Chicken curry was nice.

Lovely Chinese, I'm a regular customer, can't fault the food, very busy Fridays, I would give 5 star except for these two reasons only, for the last four takeaways ordered there is always something missing from our order and not written on boxes number ordered (note to self to check before the travel home), I suggest they write on the plastic boxes the number ordered so not to miss packing them for the customer and the customer knows what they have. Other than that it is well worth the gorgeous food.

The quality of the food is ok and it was hot. These are the only positives. I can honestly say the dishes we had were tasteless and bland. To the people who think this is tasteful food, then you need to shop around. I hate wasting food but I threw more in the bin than I ate. Definitely would not recommend if you like to enjoy what you eat.

Chicken Balls and Prawn Balls were decent, Singapore Noodles was great, Salt and Pepper Chicken was the best part, was a bit greasy though Overall, good food 👍

Ordered satay chicken, when we got it home it was raw, took it back to be told its because they have a new supplier and the chicken had more water in it it cooks a lighter colour. Won't be going there again. Disgusting.

Been in Chard for 18 months. Have used this Chinese on a number of occasions. Never had a bad meal. Always prepared quickly and served hot.

All the 5 star reviews are well justified. It was a very enjoyable experience and a nice way to spend a few hours in the evening. Fabulous food, beautifully presented, full of flavour, and the perfect amount. You should 100% book this if you get the chance.

Fantastic experience. Food absolutely amazing. Excellent, polite, friendly service. Hide, the chef, very friendly, funny & welcoming. Everything was delicious & beautifully presented, from start to finish. You can watch Hide cooking from your table. The layout is intimate but not crammed in by any means. BYOB & they provide glasses & water. For a small restaurant hidden away in an industrial unit it's worthy of many more stars than I can give.

This place is incredible. The food, the hosts, I can't wait to go again! It's a different dining experience to a traditional restaurant, and this makes it all the better. Hide is clearly passionate about his craft and that comes across heaps, highly recommend going to see for yourself. You will need to book well in advance however (which shows you how good this place is).

Enjoyed an amazing Katsu curry night at Kinori. Food, service and atmosphere amazing. I forgot to get a photo of the main as I was too excited to taste it! Highly recommend and will definitely be returning. Word of advice - can be difficult to find the entrance, walk around the first corner of the industrial estate and then down the slope into the building, you'll find a sign there showing you where to go :)

We came for an 'IZAKAYA Japanese Pub Night' supper night, where we had a 9 course set menu. The food tasted fresh and delicious. They supply glasses (and water), but you bring your own drinks with you. Chef Hideki Koike went round to each table, and it was a nice touch having a little chat. Easy to find and plenty of free parking. Great food, value, and friendly and professional staff. Would reccommend. Booking in advance required.

The Bell Inn, a pub to visit. Staff were friendly and professional, the pub was clean and staff were quick to clear up after leaving guests. The food was excellent and made even better with the Friday special 'BOGOF'. All left with very full bellies and not an empty wallet! The place was tastefully decorated for the festive season and it was really nice to see the local community Xmas present donation point filling up nicely. We were mightily impressed with the condiments dresser, setting all food places could adopt. The outside seating and play areas were good and clean and the carpark was very well lit. The only low point was the bowling lane, very tired and turned into a junk room. Overall, highly recommend and will visit again if in the area.

Today we had a great lunch at "Hungry Horse". A little noisy, but it did not prevent us from communicating and receiving excellent service from their team. We were served by Iryna. She is a wonderful waitress, very professionally does her job and has an individual approach to each customer. We are very satisfied and will come back here again.

Went for a Sunday Roast. Food was mediocre. Small portion of Turkey. The Mash and veggies were surely from ready made packaging. Service was without a smile. Better off in traditional pubs.

Had a great experience here, quality atmosphere, friendly and very welcoming! Food, absolutely pukka! And some of the staff I met, Mikey the Arsenal supporter, and Sheridan the Tottenham fan! We visited The Candlelight yesterday evening, and what a wonderful place. Gareth and Miranda are fantastic hosts and are really running the place well. The food was outstanding, I had the burger and my partner had the fish and chips, cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend a visit.

Late booking for Sunday lunch. Lots of veg, all very tasty. Not much beef sadly, and it was rather tough, but it was late in the afternoon. Lemon cake was lovely. Ordered a couple of flat whites - first time with cocoa sprinkled liberally on, not something I would order again!! In all, lovely place, good service and would definitely go back.

Lovely Inn, recently refurbished. Great staff, very friendly. My husband grilled plaice, which he loved with cheese & biscuits to follow. His comment was "delicious, couldn't fault it!" I had the veg curry and chocolate/cherry dessert which was yummy.

The absolute worst service we have ever experienced of any restaurant we have ever been to, worldwide. Our STARTERS took over 2 hours to arrive, mains took 2.5 hours. Our waitress was lovely, but the Manager was incredibly arrogant and rude. Quite possibly the most arrogant and self righteous man we have ever met. He argued everything and refused to give us any discount off the extortionate bill (which eventually came at 10:45pm) - we arrived at 7:30 and ordered starters and mains together at 8pm!!! Food was average. We ate there years ago and it was lovely but tonight was substandard, overpriced and such a letdown. I would highly recommend anyone not to eat here and to save your money; go elsewhere. It was my husband’s birthday and we had the most disappointing night. Such a shame as the pub is beautiful but the service and wait times are DREADFUL. Do better Candlelight Inn. Treat your customers with respect and listen to them rather than arguing with them. Just a terrible night all round.

Amazing food, great team and couldn’t be better. We went there for my birthday lunch, me the wife and our German Shepherd. All very made to feel very welcomed! Will definitely be going back!

Staying nearby and spotted this place in the caravan site guide. Saw the head chef had been on great British menu and decided to partake in Sunday lunch. Superb starter just the right size and then an absolutely amazing sharing platter for the roasts. 3 meats and as much veg as I’ve even seen in a pub lunch. Definitely coming back before the trip ends.

Recommended by our host in Buckland St Mary. This is a gem of a place, so happy we got a table. Drinks outside whilst our table was being prepared. The welcome, decor and food is outstanding. You have the choice of Brasserie food or a wonderful A La Carte menu. Wines suggested to go with each course. We would have definitely gone for that if we weren't driving! Extremely clean establishment, Michelin standard food. Thank you for a lovely evening!

A nice pub set in the countryside. Plenty of parking, a large children's play area and good food. Drinks felt a little pricey, costing nearly £12 for one pint and one non alcoholic pint, however the food we had was really good although it did take a little longer than we expected despite not appearing to be too busy. This might be because we sat next to the play area and the waiting staff said they didn't know there was a table number on the picnic bench there. Otherwise no complaints.

Best gammon that me and the missus has ever had. Nice buttery roasties and plenty of vegetable options. Plenty of seating and car parking spaces. Nice large outside area for summer time food and drink. Staff were friendly and reasonably priced food. Downside was that the carpets needed a really good clean, but I'm sure that this will be seen too in the not too distant future.

Lovely country pub with fantastic views from the large garden. The food is very good with a large specials board for lots of variety. The staff are very friendly. Overall a great place for a drink and/or a meal out.

Lovely pub, friendly staff, good lasagne and well kept beer. Food a little slow to come but the staff made it clear up front that the kitchen was swamped. Will certainly stop again.

We had our wedding here and Georgie couldn't have been more amazing. Food was amazing. Service was fantastic. Honestly couldn't be happier.

I come to this place for years and this has always been my favourite healthy place in Chard and specially for the pizzas and shakes, the coffee is really good as well. They are usually very friendly and welcoming and usually is a busy place. They do some offers it depends on the day and time, please call or check some photos for this. The last few times I been here I’ve noticed that the pizzas are not working he same anymore that’s why I gave fours stars but this is one of the best places in chard and are pet friendly too.

Nice find right on the highstreet. Good value but don't take a hungry teenager. Service really good friendly and welcoming.

Delicious milkshakes, smoothies and pizzas! Always feels great to be in there supporting local too. The staff are friendly and clearly recognise the regulars which creates a great atmosphere you wouldn't find in the chains.

I have enjoyed eating at Eleos, the food has always been very tasty. Great milk shakes as well. Wanted a coffee this morning and called in rather than going to the nearby chain coffee house. Oh dear, it was not a good coffee. Hardly any flavour whatsoever, in fact the instant I use at home would have more taste. I left half a mug full. Please Eleos, do change that coffee to something with more depth of flavour. Geoff

Great coffee. Good place to eat for a quick bite, reasonably priced. Gluten free and vegan options available. Service was prompt and the staff were pleasant and friendly.

Update 18th September 2025 I visited yesterday to buy some of the delicious Almond Slices for my friend who was feeling poorly but could only find on pack on the display when I asked Jenna if anymore were available, explaining why she set off searching high and low even checking the restaurant which I considered service above and beyond the call of duty. BIG all day breakfast was really delicious, eggs cooked to perfection, yummy sausages and tasty mushrooms. The joy of joys is the perfectly baked Almond slice. We will be visiting again.

Excellent shop and cafe, we found this quite by accident on route from London to Cornwall. They had a lovely food selection, and even though late in the afternoon, prepared us some hot baguettes and cakes. All at a very reasonable price. Much better than a boring service station! Many thanks!

Farm shop with loads of wine, chutneys, jams, vegetables etc. At the back is a restaurant. Usually pretty full but we arrived late in the day. They were out of some of the roast ingredients but managed to pull together 3 roast for us and we were grateful! Recommend.

Not local, but discovered as was driving past. Been to lots of farm shops and this is one of the better ones. Had a coffee and slice of cake in the cafe, and was impressed with the range of food offered. The standard of fresh food, pies, cheeses and meats was very high. A good range of other foods and sundries will make me come back often. Excellent!

Popped in to have a cuppa and snack, that never happened!! We had the vegetarian wellington instead - excellent decision. The staff were friendly and helpful and we would return in a heartbeat. Thank you to all the hardworking staff.

Friend took us here, really nice place and staff friendly and welcoming. Good variety on the menu. There is a really good farm shop which is also reasonably priced. Situated just outside of Chard. Food really nice.. Would recommend and go again

Great place for food. Pies are hand made and full of meat like it says you get what you pay for. Full of flavour & no gristle. Bread a good choice and we shopped late in the day. Cheeses ,beers they have a good selection as well.

Was recommended this place for lunch and wasn’t disappointed. Greater my nice golfers who showed us the way, disabled parking and large car park. Upstairs to the bar area where we ordered sandwiches, one cheese and pickle one prawn, talk about value for money. Followed my a cuppa and ice cream. Even an extra biccy, thank you

Played golf here with my son and really enjoyed the course, found it to be in great condition and the views were stunning. Also stopped for a coffee afterwards and the staff were very kind and helpful. Will be coming back soon.

Such a friendly golf club. We were on holiday in the area and were made to feel so welcome. Even our dog was made to feel welcome with a water bowl and treats. Sky sports, driving range, pool table and amazing food. If you're in the area, call in.

I use the restaurant/cafe/bar area regularly. It is pleasant but service has recently reduced through lack of cups and the withdrawal of Sunday morning breakfast. Sometimes it can get very noisy when a group of golfers come in, shouting across the room and holding impromptu shouty meetings disregarding other patrons, instead of using the available meeting rooms.

6 of us went for Sunday lunch,the lunch was delicious but unfortunately I fell ill while there, I have to say the staff were amazing especially the manager,who stayed with me on the floor until the ambulance arrived.i am going through chemo for cancer so this happens.i just want to say a big thank you to all involved. I will certainly recommend the lunch and hope to return if they will have me.

Waited half an hour for two drinks and two cakes.20 mins into our wait my partner asked what was happening , then still waited further tens minutes for it to arrive.People here after us were getting their orders, albeit they had their food and then waiting for drinks coming later. Surely it should all come out at the same time! Not impressed.

Visited as part of a golf society and the service from the catering and professional golf team were superb. A nice relaxing and vibrant clubhouse. Greens in very good condition , considering the dry weather and good quality bunkers. Fast running , sloping fairways make it a short but challenging course!

What a Hidden Gem !! A long winded review but it’s worth it !!! As a family from Colchester in Essex, we were driving through Somerset on our way to the South West when we stumbled upon Hornsbury Mill – and what a lovely surprise it was! We arrived without a reservation, hoping for a quick late lunch, and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. We had to wait a bit but they squeezed us in with a smile, making us feel like old friends rather than last-minute drop-ins. My husband, 15-year-old son, and I were thrilled to be seated in the charming Wheelroom Restaurant, surrounded by the mill's historic vibes. The carvery was outstanding – meats were carved to perfection, with all the trimmings you'd expect and more. The roast beef was tender and full of flavour, the veggies were crisp, and the gravy rich, justness we like it!. Our son, who's a notoriously picky eater, devoured his plate without a single complaint – the food really kept him quiet and busy! We also loved the family-friendly atmosphere, and incredibly attentive staff checking on us regularly without being intrusive. After lunch, we explored the beautiful grounds, strolling by the serene lake with a peacock and ducks galore wandering about – it was the perfect spot to unwind. The only thing that was disappointing on the day was the weather... but we can't blame them for that!! Hornsbury Mill exudes genuine warmth; it's clear they care about creating a haven for visitors. and locals alike! We'd highly recommend it to anyone passing through – we'll definitely be back on our next trip!

I attended the Carney on Aug 3rd (Sunday) in Hornsbury Mill. The food is of good quality /inexpensive, and the service is excellent. The setting is simply stunning—right by a gorgeous lake where you can enjoy watching ducks and even a peacock roam. A fantastic dining experience in a stunning location!

A traditional water mill converted into a hotel, bar and restaurant. A lovely location with its own duck pond. The ancient mill wheel actually turns, powered by water. Spacious guest room. Full English breakfast. Decent lunch/dinner menu with reasonable prices. Draft beer and cider at the bar. Open to non-residents. A good venue for business meetings and events. Friendly owner takes care to talk to guests and listen to feedback. Highly recommended.

We’d previously had a lovely roast here, which is why we decided to book again for my parents’ silver wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, this visit was a complete disappointment. I had confirmed with the venue a few days before and was told I could arrive early to set up. However, when I arrived with my nephew (just after my grandparents, who brought the surprise cake), no staff seemed to have any idea about our booking. When the manager finally arrived, he drove recklessly into the car park at a speed that could have easily hit my one-year-old nephew. He then brushed it off with a half-hearted apology, clearly flustered by the fact a large table hadn’t been booked. To make matters worse, he ruined the surprise by telling my parents about the cake. With no table ready, we were shuffled into a waiting room while staff scrambled to put something together. Service was disorganised, the food was mediocre at best, and the manager’s constant hovering only added to the uncomfortable atmosphere. Overall, what should have been a special family celebration turned into a stressful and disappointing experience. Sadly, we won’t be returning.

We had lunch here on Friday 12th September. Everything about this place was a pleasure. The staff were attentive, friendly and polite. The menu had a good selection of freshly prepared food and at reasonable prices. The actual food we had was 100%! It was served beautifully, nice and hot and the portion sizes generous. Our whole experience was first class and we are already looking forward to returning. Thank you all for a great experience.

What started out as a visit to the Hornsbury Mill, turned into a delicious tapas meal, several cocktails and a lot of new friends! We have just moved to the area and needed a place to stay and picked up a room for just £90, bargain! We were greeted by Hoppy who told us about Tapas and Cocktails, so we booked in. The waiting staff were very new, but they really wanted to chat and tried hard and ensured we had a good time. The food was lovely, and the cocktails were strong. Plus we stayed for drinks after and the team told us about the area, introduced us to new owner Tony and we left very happy! 😄

I recently stayed at Hornsbury Mill with my 2 children and other family ahead of a funeral. Our room was perfect, the team were amazing, and the food delicious! I could not find one fault. Such beautiful premises with incredible history. We loved "Gorgeous George". A huge thank you to Zoe - nothing was too much to ask- and of course to Charlie- who will have an admirer forever. We cannot wait for our next visit. Thank you. ❤️

My favourite go to Chinese in chard, the service is quick and usually steady within 20 minutes to collect! Lovely staff and the food is amazing! It’s great having the option of tofu for vegan options would highly recommend

Just ordered and collected possibly the worse Chinese i have ever had. I travelled from Wales to visit family and asked them to pre order for me . No sign of anyone serving after calling for a few minutes then having to wait 10 minutes The order was sweet and sour chicken balls which were so small and inedible, (no chicken visible) chicken chow mein consisted of bean sprouts and a few shavings of chicken no other protein, spring rolls very anemic and filled with bean sprouts, bbq spare ribs not sure what the sauce was overall very disappointed have suggested that my family members do not use or recommend this takeaway.

I would like to order for Sunday night at 5oclock to 29west crescent ilminster if that’s possible please give me chicken curry and special fried rice and pancakes roll

We have been BIG fans of Chan's since it opened. The food is always consistent in taste and size of dishes are generous. Alan and his staff are always friendly and smiling. If your looking for somewhere new to try or just driving through Chard and want a good feed, this is your place with street parking right out front! Definitely ***** for us

Great little restaurant. Staff were welcoming and friendly, service was excellent - incredibly fast, and the food was delicious. Restaurant side was a bit quiet (although it was Sunday night to be fair), but take away was very busy and I can see why having tasted the food. Decent price set menus, and good portions too. If I wasn't only here on holiday I'd go again! Well recommended.

Iv been in the area now 5 months and tried few take away now this is the best Iv had and absolutely great value for money plus it was nice and hot quality of food is outstanding Recommend highly

So little cafe /gallery as walked in seemed nice went upstairs to cafe, ordered two cappuccinos which was like tepid milky coffee though looked like tea, when I said to girl she didn't seemed bothered nicely set out and nice atmosphere, but it's something to try for yourselves and see what you think

Under new ownership and really wasn’t impressed with service or food was not very nice. Food wasn’t what was listed on the menu. Also blamed that on the previous owners on what food Stock they had been left to them. Awful salad cream all over salad salad was awful. Portion size wasn’t great and bread was awful. Breakfast wasn’t nice. If your going to run any food establishment you have to be on point with the food. Previous owners were not only lovely but could and would cook suck lovely food and one of the best breakfast. Such a shame. As a regular I won’t be eating here again.

A very strange place with a varied selection of art around the walls available to buy at a huge range of prices. We were greeted without a smile with menus being shoved at us. Ordered an elderflower, was brought an Appletizer. When questioned, she looked at the bottle, swore and walked off! Food order was completely wrong twice! Then tried to charge for wrong order of food! Lots of swearing under breath (but loud enough to hear), strange and loud music choices (Massive Attack) and disconnected service. Food was good enough for the price.

Called in for coffee. The lad on duty was just opening at 11.05 am. Asked for two coffees and told that the machine wouldn’t turn on. We were then offered a cafetière. Two coffees then arrived in mugs, not a cafetière. The machine for that wasn’t working. The gent’s toilet was another matter, suffice it to say that whoever used it last had a digestive system problem. I felt a bit sorry for the lad on duty, he seemed a bit out of his depth, and it was fairly obvious that the other staff that should have been on duty hadn’t turned up. It’s a shame because it used to be a nice little café pre-Covid.

A fine place to break your fast. Arriving b4 ten ensures a fry up of similar value to those sold elsewhere. The food is very nice but a bit pricey after ten. Seems odd to have pay extra for beans.

Gone down hill rapidly was up market super place to go. Food now awful. Also portions of food ridiculously small. Offer of chips or salad . The salad the size of a postage stamp. Owner looks too scruffy to run a food establishment. Everyone I have spoken to who regularly went there say Never again

Such a lovely little cafe tucked away in the centre of Chard. Staff really friendly with great sense of fun. Free cake with every lunch on Wednesday...coffee n walnut.. Yummy

Myself and my darling Celia were celebrating 25 years of happiness together. We certainly picked a wonderful place to do so. We had a lovely, airy double aspect room. We spent two nights here and we ate two excellent meals and enjoyed fine wines and marvellous Guinness. High praise for the chef, top class. Thank you very much. High praise also for Alfie, who suffered a vicious dog bite prior to our visit. Despite that, he was charm itself, the whole trip. Special thanks for mushroom, lady who served our breakfast. Thank you so much.

One of our party had the BBQ pork ribs. Just to say that a small finger bowl and a plate for the ribs would have been helpful. Great atmosphere and excellent food. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. We look forward to coming again.

Absolutely incredible meal at The Lordleaze yet again. Consistently delicious meals and top service from all of the friendly staff. Gorgeous beer garden set in quiet location. Couldn’t ask for better! Thank you to all the team, we will be back as you know ☺️

The room was clean, and the staff were attentive and helpful. While the property shows potential, there is still room for improvement. With some enhancements, it could truly become an outstanding destination for a getaway.

We had lunch there today Wednesday 10th September and had a lovely lunch with "Great Service" Good selection of food enjoyed my I picked Korean Chicken strips as a starter and followed by quite large portions of Fish and Chips for my partner and for myself a Burger with chips and a nice glass of French white bwine. Good service and as said excellent service!

Excellent value for money, great food and generous portions, really good service and some nice touches like a bottle of water in rooms to make drinks. Nice view from our room, very quiet and a comfortable bed.

We have just returned from staying at The Lordleaze. The staff from the initial arrival until our departure were excellent, helpful, considerate and going the extra mile. I have coeliac disease and eating out is a bit of a worry but I had no problems here. My meals were excellent, breakfasts were lovely. A super chef who took care to provide food that not only looked appetising but tasted Devine. Like a few others here we would agree that our room was a bit tired.

First time ordering in a long time arrived quickly was well cooked and was enjoying it right up until I removed a long grey hair from the center of my kebab so obviously put me off and the lot went in the bin however I will say I thought the man delivering was ace and was nice and friendly

Supposed to be under new management with new kebab spits. Doner meat is still cooked in a microwave and served on a tortilla wrap with not very good coleslaw. I ordered a 3 kebabs and 2 Pepsi. All the meat was the same and within an hour I had a stomach ache to only end up on the toilet. I'm not sure what's going on but the new management are obviously the same old ways. Unless there's big changes I won't be returning.

Got a share box delivered £30 or so plus almost £5 (bag, delivery...). The food arrived cold, burgers were a thin burger and a slice of not even melted processed cheese in a dry bun (no sauce, salad, spices), cold soggy chips on one side and cold soggy chips covered with rock solid sort of cheese on the other, floppy onion rings that tasted like some watery chewy thing, the chicken nuggets were strangely alright, and the most basic disgusting cold pizza (base, tomato sauce, cheese). The whole box went straight in the bin as it was clear all of it was cooked from frozen, probably left on the side for some time: absolutely disgusting and uneatable. I am shocked that any restaurant would deliver such appalling pretend food and I'd estimate the total cost of that box at no more than £6, yet being charged over £30. Boss Hogs I truly hope you'll change your ways or you'll close soon to avoid conning more people to order from your disgusting place. Word to the world: AVOID AVOID AVOID. Plenty more places to order from in the area!

Ordered a few times previously, each time wed heard tales like it being under new management or better than it used to be, and so forth. We've had dry kebab meat, undercooked yet somehow also rubbery chicken, pizza so greasy as to be inedible. The salad sides tend to be a little flop of going-over lettuce and tasteless tomato. Chips are always stale. Breaded mushrooms were just the Lidl ones we normally get, but badly cooked and watery in the middle. Got a 'Too Good To Go bag from them last night, four quid for a small burnt pizza and a measly smattering of greasy chips. Hair on the pizza, too. When I turned up to collect the collection point was filthy. Packets stacked up everywhere, uncleaned grills, and things lying on the side for the flies that should really have been in a fridge. I'd encourage any regular customer to order for collection sometime, it paints a very different picture. Very unpleasant every time. Curiously, Just Eat rate them 4.6 stars out of 5, where everywhere else they're rated average 2 stars or worse so I reckon there's some review fiddling going on. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Tried charging me delivery on an order for that should of been £14.99. When clearly states on website FREE over 3.99 2 people called me a liar saying it doest exist. Refused to honor whats stated on your website! Website doesn't actually work to order. So didn't bother ordering!

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. WE ORDERED A CHICKEN SHISH KEBAB 6 HOT AND SPICY CHICKEN WINGS AND CHIPS. THE CHICKEN KEBAB LOOKED AND SMELT LIKE DOG FOOD, CHIPS WERE STONECOLD. WE COMPLAINED AND GOT SENT OUT A DONER KEBAB AND CHIPS.. THIS TIME CHIPS WERE HOT BUT ONLY ABOUT 15 CHIPS AND A MINGING KEBAB THAT WAS LITRALLY DRIPPING IN GREASE. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY. STRAIGHT IN THE BIN. HIGHLY RECOMMEND PEOPLE AVOID THIS PLACE.

Absolutely unbelievable definitely won’t try again

I was recommended to come here by a friend, the experience exceeded expectations, I was lucky enough to get a slice of the hake tart (I hear it's usually sold out!) and the staff were lovely. Beautiful grounds.

Awful experience. Ok it was mother's day today, but they were completely unprepared for it. Very very very slow. Got multiple things in our order wrong. Kept us waiting for our slices of cake for 45 minutes, when I went up for a refund they were sat on the side waiting for someone to bring them out to us. Queues of people nearly out the door waiting for refunds by 3pm, because so many didn't get their order. Dogs only allowed outside and no children's menu for info. Food was very nice when we eventually got it (drinks and cakes were even slower).

Not a cyclists cafe. Arrived with a group at 10.45 am and could only get 2nd rate cake. No way of contacting cafe by phone beforehand. Breakfast food was needed.

Clean and welcoming, very good coffee, great to see plenty of gluten free food options available and clearly labelled.

Great atmosphere, fantastic food (particularly the wild mushroom risotto) and good coffee. Highly recommend!

Nicest fruit scone ever!

We googled for a good restaurant in Chard and was impressed by the good reviews for A Tasquinha. We weren't very impressed by the entrance which wasn't very welcoming and had cigarette butts around the doorway. The inside of the restaurant was nice, clean and has a small garden outside. We presume the lady who served us was the owner. She is very pleasant and welcoming and took our orders and served our food speedily. We ordered a tapas plate for starters but when it came, there were no olives as they had run out that morning. However, we were charged the same price. (Sainsburys is 2 minutes up the road!) She recommended one of the specials, a bean, calamari and prawn stew which, for a cold day sounded good but the prawns were undercooked, there were only small very small pieces of calamari and it was beans, beans and more beans which was quite bland. My husband had their 'sausage' special. A tiny piece of sausage with a cooked egg ( he was not asked how he wanted his egg and it was a hard fried egg. I can't recommend the food here

WOW! What a fabulous find on our way home. The food was superb and super tasty, great portions, you won’t leave feeling hungry, loved the atmosphere and the owner was very friendly and helpful. It was a real taste of Portugal in Somerset. The high rating by others is genuinely justified. If your heading north from the south coast I highly recommend you make the detour through Chard to visit, I’m quite sure you’ll be very glad you did.

A rough and ready cafe where you might be the only person who doesn't speak Portuguese. However staff were friendly and the food was exceptional. Meat skewers to die for and the only decent espresso for miles around. Check out their Facebook page to see what the menue is for each day.

Amazing portuguese restaurant, it felt like we were in Portugal. Amazing food cooked perfectly and amazing service. Shame its to far away from us (we were travelling) and we can't go back often. And they have a lot of groceries that is only sold in Portugal!

We are staying in Chard for a few days - and after looking on Google for somewhere to eat, we were lucky enough to stumble across this little gem. From the minute we walked in we were made to feel welcome- everyone was so friendly. The owner brought us homemade bread, homemade cheese and olives whilst we waited for our main course. We had diced rump steak madiera style - and it was absolutely delicious. The portion was huge! The meat melted in your mouth and the sauce was just gorgeous! The only downside was that the food was so good - we did not have any room left for dessert! We would definitely recommend and would definitely go back if we were ever this way again!
