Restaurant
Nestled in the charming coastal town of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, Restaurant Le Chasse Marée is a delightful culinary gem that has quickly made a name for itself since its opening in December 2017. With accolades from prestigious guides like Michelin and Gault Millau, this eatery offers an inviting atmosphere where guests can savor expertly crafted dishes. The menu features a selection of fresh seafood, including their renowned fish soup served with flavorful rouille and crispy croutons.
Visited this restaurant augustus 2018. This is a rather new restaurant since december 2017 and it has already nominations from Michelin and Gault Millau. Read further and you van understanding why... We've ordered an Americano aperitive, fish soup and a Turbo fish. The staff was friendly, quick and with a good knowledge of the different products they use. The fish soup was served with tastfull rouille, shredded cheese and freshly baked croutons. The soup itself was like it should be, you could really taste all different fishes used in this bouillon and with a nice seasoning. The cuisson of the turbo fish was amazing, together with the bio! (steamed all dente) vegetables served with smashed patatoes underneath. In short, don't doubt, just go eating here and enjoy!

A warm summer evening. Oysters from the bay in front of you fish from the boats in the harbour. Perfect.

Chef clearly knows his trade. Starters of fish cerviche was wonderful….main course of bourride looked great… just not for me🥴. Puds outstanding. Highly recommend if you want fish…. Just know what you are getting if you order the bourride😂😂😂

Superb food, both indoor & terrace seating
Adrian H — Google review
This was a lovely, elegant, restaurant with stunning and innovative, yet classic food. The personnel was charming and the price was as expected. I would give it 5 stars but there was no music, and with rather quiet and respectable guests and an all-white, quite stark interior (except for the impressive collection of sailing pennants) my overall impression was that it lacked atmosphere. Also, the melted chocolate on my desert was overcooked and tasted dry and crumbly, which was a shame on the impeccable home-made chou pastry with bourbon vanilla ice cream. Having said that, I will definitely go again !
Allie D — Google review
Fantastic food. I went there with some friends in June 2015 and we had a delicious meal. The decor is nice and it's not bad value either. The staff (& owner) are very friendly and understood our poor French (they also spoke some English). The fish was incredibly fresh (as it should be given the location). Definitely recommended.

We found this Restaurant on a trip for my birthday. Very good food. Friendly and efficient staff. Not too expensive. Well worth a visit. Highly recommended. We will be going again.

Amazing place not visible at first time. I suggest to discover it because it's the french gastronomic style of this sweet village. The other One is the fuschias. Try those 2 restaurants if you are looking for great french typical high level restaurant.

Seafood restaurant
Restaurant
This establishment has quickly become a beloved destination, thanks to its charming location by the water and the sunny weather. The fish served here is exceptionally fresh, sourced directly from the nearby boat. The skilled chef impresses with a variety of delicious seafood dishes, including outstanding oysters, fish soup, and mussels. As today marks the end of our holiday, we indulged in all our favorites.
This place just became a favourite of ours. Glorious little Port and the Sun came out too. Fantastic fish restaurant and the fish only has to come of the boat moored up just outside. Chef really know his stuff and turns out plate after plate of fresh ozone goodness. The oysters were some of the best I've ever had as was the fish soup and moule. Today was the last day of our holiday so we were getting a proper fix of all the favourites. Can't recommend this fine establishment enough, lovely welcoming staff and delicious seafood. Don't think it's dear either you are getting hearty portions and total quality.

Excellent food locally sourced and well prepared. We had mussels in cream sauce and also in wine sauce, both excellent. A dozen oysters were sweet and delicious. Good value for money in a casual comfortable setting.
Paula O — Google review
Splendid little seafood restaurant. We had the bulots to share. They were juicy and tasty. Afterwards, I had the homemade fish soup and the grilled calamares. Both were full of taste and fresh.

Fantastic! St. Vaast oysters are among the best in the world, and here they are fresh and clean. The coteaux du Mer were wonderful, with a beure-ail sauce. The soupe des poissons was fabulous. This was a lunch my wife and I will remember for years. Simple, fresh, wonderful. Wow!

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming coastal town of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, Le Débarcadère is a delightful restaurant that has been serving up homemade dishes since 1982. With a commitment to using fresh, local ingredients, this eatery offers an extensive menu filled with mouthwatering options perfect for family gatherings or friendly get-togethers. Guests rave about the quick service and welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to unwind after a day of exploring.
Their service was fast, we ordered fish and chips and was delivered in less than 2 minutes. I loved the ambiance, very friendly and welcoming staff. Preferably you need to book before your dinner since it can be very overwhelming. We were to choose dinner time either at 7:00pm or at 8:30pm. We choose at 8:30pm and we really enjoyed our night. We will definitely come back again.

You had a nice view and the food was amazing! The use tablets as menus that I find pretty cool! The service was great and I don’t really have any feedback! Tip the pizzas are very big so if you’re not a big eater share one with someone!
Lina D — Google review
We have just finished our lunch here. We got here about quarter to 2. There was nobody 'meeting and greeting' so we went to the bar to ask if we could have a table outside. We took a table and waited 10 minutes but nobody came to give us a menu so I went to the bar and ordered 2 beers. I tried in my best pigeon french to get a menu but the response was all in French and the man gestured that the lady clearing tables would take our order. After a while the lady walked past a couple of times and just ignored us. I used Google translate to get her attention and eventually we got our food after about an hour. I got the impression English speakers weren't welcome despite my best efforts to speak French. My husband's entrecote was very good, my fish and chips was edible. Unless you can speak French well. I wouldn't recommend this place as we felt very unwelcome.
Lina O — Google review
A nice restaurant for lunch. Nothing special and nothing bad to say. My wife again had a goat cheese salad. I had a ham steak that was well prepared and accompanied by French fries that were well done. Our tour guide had a steak tht actually looked quite good. I had a nice French beer. This place was just excellent as a rest in the midst of a day of touring Normandy. I guess the best thing to say is that if you are touring in the area around lunchtime or dinnertime and looking for good food, look this restaurant up and if convenient to you, then go. However, it is not a restaurant I would seek out or travel far to visit.
Ralph B — Google review
Busy and bustling. Booking recommended! We were grateful that this place was open on All Saints Day - most places weren't. Nice food.

Visited twice in one week , food was very good both times , service good on first visit , but 2nd visit very slow , tables coming in after us getting served before us. One of our party has algeries and was made to feel that this was an inconvenience, told staff of a tomato algeries in English and French but dish still came out with tomatoes. Asked for dessert menu left waiting for 15 minutes, no service , paid and went across the road instead . All French speaking tables served before the Irish .

Hotel
Hôtel de France et des fuchsias is a 19th-century hotel that offers comfortable accommodations with a calm ambiance. It features an upscale restaurant and bar, as well as a lovely garden. The rooms are designed to provide relaxation for guests, and the hotel's location near the fishing port and Isle of Tatihou adds to its charm. The staff is friendly and helpful, ensuring a warm welcome for visitors.
Love this hotel, this was the third time we stayed here and it did not disappoint. The staff are very attentive without getting in the way, great quality throughout but retaining a real feel for the history of the building and the town. Always welcoming and friendly, Valentine was very helpful. The rooms are beautiful, very clean and warm. Finally breakfast was excellent with a good variety of food and drinks, the freshly made pancakes were a lovely surprise.

This is a charming hotel with a wonderful courtyard garden. The breakfast was magnificent.
Jeremy F — Google review
This is a delightful hotel conveniently situated near the harbour with restaurants and bars. The rooms have been renovated to a high standard although some are quite small but quite adequate for a short stay. It does not have a lift. The staff are welcoming and very helpful. Breakfast was adequate but supplemented daily with interesting and tasty pancakes delivered by the charming waiter. Parking is available but not at the hotel itself being about 250 metres away - okay if you have no mobility issues and it's not raining. The other rather weird aspect is that the hotel closes up at 8pm (access by coded lock) with internal doors locked and no-one is on duty there. This makes contact with guests staying in the annex rather difficult.
Robin S — Google review
Brilliant bed and breakfast hotel 3 minutes from the port. Very friendly, helpful staff and a really good breakfast.

We stayed here October 2022 and fell in love with it.Such a beautiful French old world hotel.Elegant and sincere to its history. Its full of charm and attention to detail is wonderful. A very romantic atmosphere. Lots of choice for breakfast, the dining room is very comfortable. The gardens are breathtaking in particular the stream running through it.Staff are very friendly and welcoming. We were so impressed we have booked to return in September, wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else. Noelle and Conor

Restaurant
Café Brasserie "LE DETOUR" in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere with a pleasant background music. The place is recommended for ending an afternoon stroll around the beautiful port of St-Vaast-La-Hougue. Visitors have praised the friendly welcome, efficient service, and delicious dishes served at reasonable prices. The staff is described as professional and capable of managing the crowd with a smile.
This is magnificent. I "walked up" to get the last table in the house with just under 1h wait (bar round the corner) and was rewarded with Moule Frites and Creme Brulé plus excellent service. Les Moules Frites marinieres et Creme Brulé le detour sont magnifique. Je me suis sentiment "au famille" a Le Detour :-)

Friendly restaurant and attentive staff. I had snails as a starter it was delicious. However, the mussels I had been looking forward to were a little rubbery. I supposed that is pot luck. The apple tart was lovely and I do recommend that. The place gets busy in the summer season, I suggest booking ahead to avoid disappointment.
TheIona2009 — Google review
The name of the restaurant is rather fitting, right on the edge of beautiful and small town, that truly feels like one has taken a de tour, especially after driving through beautiful tiny streets where each side of the "road" is decorated by cute houses. The restaurant itself is rather lovely, the staff is friendly, personable, and welcoming, with service being on point, attentive but not overbearing which made the whole experience that much better. We went for the set menu, which for €26 gives three courses, very decently sized and filling enough to leave the place festively plump, yet not stuffed so you can go an explore the nearby cannon fodder towers which are part of the towns history. If you can, avoid having well done steak, else you would miss out on the exquisite flavours, tenderness and overall maginifique culinary wonder that I had this evening. The steak, as seen on the pictures, was truly and wonderfuly medium-rare and chef done a stellar job from start to finish, goats cheese salad for starter, steak for main with chips and salad (yes I like my greens) and top it off with delicious creme brule. My friends went for sea food options and oysters and we're raving about their dishes as well so overall, success with every dish. The restaurant is located next to the marina. This evening they accommodated variety of guests from family with a toddler, through two people tucked away in a corner, to small group of three friends and also a large group of people. Personally i found the place rather lovely, easy on the eye with great atmosphere, modern decor, outdoor seating are and positive vibe where one can truly enjoy their meal... Wholeheartedly recommended. This was a wonderful ending to our last evening in France, thank you.

Another excellent meal. Had the offer starter. 3 oysters, 4 whelks and 5 prawns with a lovely mustard infused mayonnaise and a glass of Chardonnay for 12€ Ribeye beef and trout for mains. All perfectly cooked and delicious. We were early about 18:30 without a reservation but were seated fine. Within 40 minutes it was full with people being turned away. Great friendly service.

We were quickly welcomed in on a quiet Sunday night, where we enjoyed a fresh & tasty seafood meal. We began with delicious oysters & a generous cold seafood platter as starters; then onto mains of sea scallops & fresh fish in various (Normandy!) cream sauces. All the fish choices & the vegetable sides were freshly prepared & delicately seasoned. A generous serving of warm chocolate cake & ice cream topped off the evening. Attentive service. Thank you!

What a lovely restaurant! The food is wonderful, the staff run like a well-oiled machine and work their socks off! But, even though they work hard, they are very friendly and accommodating. The owner does his fair share too! We will be back.

Food was truly awful, we found a hair in one of our dishes. Service was really unwelcoming and rude. Bathrooms were unhygienic. Waitresses were slow and food portions were really small and the white wine was hot. I wouldn’t go back to this place if they paid me to eat there.
Oscar V — Google review
Seems at first a good popular restaurant but after ordering, drinks went quick... but once the main course arrived the fries were burned and really dry like re cooked... and finaly when we actually report that fact theses were told "well done"... here's the shot attached... you can make your own idea... maybe try the fish... From my point of view I won't recomend this restaurant... order there only if you can't find anything else around...

(Translated by Google) More than average reception... The mussels were of no interest, the fries never reached our table because apparently the fryer was broken. 30 minutes of waiting to tell us that in the end they couldn't serve us anything besides mussels... No solution found for the children, we had to go to another restaurant. And as compensation they were generous, they didn't count the fries... (I want to say bravo for the commercial effort :)) In short, go your way... We have eaten here regularly for the last 25 years. This evening we booked a table for 7:30pm with our 2 children, our food of 4 burgers took over 1 1/2 hours to arrive and when it did it was poor. No-one checked on us during this time. The bar manager was apologetic, I can only guess they missed our order but they made no effort to look after us having realised their error. I think they are just to busy to care. Really sad as this place used to be good.

the Restaurant Marina. Everything was good, big serving. Fish, Tartare, Terrine de cochon… Excellent! until we reached the dessert 😡 the Baba -> Bad recipe - no pommeau, Baked apple -> no calvados, no cider. Coffee liegeois -> only one ball of ice cream for Eur 6! Yes you have understood! do not order dessert!

Amazing food. My steak was cooked just the way I had asked it to be. Only downside - it was rushed. Restaurant very busy but staff seemed harassed. When paying bill waiter/waitress took her time to finish putting away glasses before even acknowledging me. All in all lovely meal with beautiful views
Jane L — Google review
Went for a drink here around 6.30 and as they were starting food service at 7 we booked a table. The drinks seemed very expensive and it later became apparent that we had ordered and paid for a large beer but served a small one. The staff seemed very stressed and rushing around so we hope this was an honest mistake not deliberate. We were glad we booked because it was full, people started sitting down at 6.45. So hard to find somewhere to eat in France on a Sunday night! The food was lovely, we had the fish stew pot which came topped with melted camembert. Good choice of desserts. Reasonably priced.
Helen A — Google review
A rather underwhelming experience overall. The 300g steak lacked character, and the fries were soft, unsalted, and resembled soggy potato chips. The kids’ menu did include a tiny ice cream that was well received, and points for the glass-bottled Coke and decent sauce.

Friendly restaurant with lovely staff. We were not sure where to go for dinner last night so we walked into the quay from our boat. We decided we wanted crepe or galette or both, so we went into Pontoon G. The food was really nice, for us it was very special because we always want to have French pancakes. So we ended up having galette as our mains and crepe as our dessert. It was a simple meal but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff were very friendly. We will certainly go back next time we are in St Vaast.

Sat outside in the sun, it was approx 12 degrees. Menu is good for a quick lunch. We had local oysters which were fantastic. The galettes came out quick and were tasty and warm. We tried their fries and they were very good (homemade). Staff re very friendly, spoke French and good English but let you choose which to speak in. Would recommend!

As an American I would like to say that I have eaten thousands of burgers in my life time. THE BURGER AT PONTON G IS THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD! It is so creative putting a burger in a galettes and the creamy camembert on top really pushes the whole dish over the edge. Truly amazing!

We waited for over an hour for a galette and a croque monsieur. Both were very poor - croque only grilled on top and cold in the middle with soggy bread. Galette very basic. Waitress was miserable as were all the customers facing a very long wait for their food. Avoid.

Terrible service and unable to propose a vegan option whilst they serve both galettes (which is vegan) and salads. Avoid at all costs !

The best oysters we’ve ever had! It’s a simple place, but it has a truly authentic and local vibe. The prices were the lowest we’ve ever seen for oysters, especially considering the exceptional quality, which makes it a big win. We spent a lovely afternoon sipping champagne and enjoying oysters at a very reasonable price. If you’re ever in the area, it’s an absolute must!

We happened upon this spot. Had a dozen oysters and a bottle of wine for 30 euros. Fantastic experience. Even got to buy one of their plates.

Perfect! I loved every minute of being here. The fish was so fresh that at one point the owner ran out to a boat that had just docked and picked the best fish! It was simply fantastic and cheap for what you got and the staff were super enthusiastic and wonderfully delightful. It was simply my best meal in France! I couldn't recommend it more!!!

L'Estran, nestled in the picturesque harbor of Saint Vaast, offers a delightful dining experience that beautifully marries modern flair with traditional recipes. The restaurant's menu may not be extensive, but it is thoughtfully curated and features fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. Guests rave about the warm service and exceptional wine pairings that enhance each dish. Highlights include a divine beef fillet paired with an unexpectedly delightful vanilla-infused artichoke puree, showcasing the chef's creativity.
We had an all-round perfect evening at L'Estran. There was so much thought and detail put into every dish, the quality of the products was exceptional, the wine pairing was perfectly matched to all the dishes and the service was so warm and great!!! A heartfelt recommendation!
Hanna F — Google review
Lovely last lunch in France. Gorgeous position overlooking the harbour in Saint Vaast. Interesting thoughtful and taste driven food, relaxed service and interesting wine list. My only criticism a nut and wasabi paste to mix in the squid starter didn't have enough heat. The nut dominated and the wasabi heat struggled to come through. An beef fillet and artichoke main was devine. I initially bulked at the thought of vanilla in the artichoke puree, thinking it wrong for the dish. How wrong I was! The rich jus was a counterpoint to the vanilla flavour and provided balance. My dish of the year! The strawberry and rhubarb start to finish was light of touch, the pastry thr stand out. One thing to add the bread was divine. Better than the bread I regularly have in a Michelin star restaurant in London.

End of the holiday - heard great things about this place. Easily reserved online (last table!) didn’t disappoint. Gorgeous food and brilliant service. Hands down best tuna I’ve ever eaten. Thanks for being kind about me having the baby (who loved everyone there!)

Already logically victims of their success (make sure you book in advance!) we discovered this restaurant which mixes a modern young touch with traditional recipes and local products... And they do it really well! We had the "menu marée haute" and let them guide us with wines... A great experience from the very beginning (delicious amuse -bouche and homemade amazing butter) to the entrées (oeuf courge moutarde followed by encornets pomme cajun) to the mains (perfectly cooked lieu jaune, highlight of the night pan cooked pigeonnaud with corn and estragon) a great cheese plate and nice deserts (quoi de mieux que chocolat et framboises pour finir...). An espresso to conclude a beautiful meal served with the sophistication of an étoilé but with an extra smile and friendliness! The team cares for the whole experience! We had a great one! Good news is: the menu changes very often! We will be back! Thanks team l'Estran!

We had a delightful dinner for four at L'Estran restaurant in St Vaast, the food was excellent and the staff were very welcoming. The menu was not as extensive as might be found in a 'big' restaurant, but it was very interesting; everything was fresh, cooked to order, and the quality and presentation were superb. We left the restaurant very happy........it was undoubtedly the best restaurant that we found in our five day visit to Normandy

(Translated by Google) Dinner as a couple on a Wednesday evening Disappointed with the service provided, given the many positive reviews. Perhaps an off-day for us... Here are the reasons: veranda in very poor condition, dirty wine glasses, bar counters and cash register in disarray (in direct view of the customer, really not great), expensive meal for the service, very simple, and lots of sauce or salad to make it look bulky!!!! A good worker isn't worth more or better. We left hungry. Salt and pepper missing from the table. Plastic menu holder completely broken. Only positive point: the bread. (Translated by Google) It’s not the first time we’ve been there! But it's been twice this summer that we have been treated to the same unpleasant and very borderline young waitress! The other waitress is much more pleasant. The cuisine is very satisfying. But today, I had a plate of starters for €6.50. But as there was a portion of quiche taking up space on the plate, I took a second plate which I was charged for as well. So I paid twice!!!!!! I spoke with this waitress who didn't want to hear anything and my questions remained unanswered. I think we need to change activity as quickly as possible for the proper functioning of this restaurant!
