Sat on the patio at Sawmill Taphouse today and the atmosphere was great with umbrellas and large tables. Maria, our server was able to handle our table of 7 efficiently and provide us with great suggestions on the menu. Our food came out quick and fresh and happy hour had a great selection of drinks. Would definetly return to Sawmill for food and drink.

Stopped at this local pub & grill on our trip to Chemainus BC, Van Island. Loved the garlic grilled prawns the best! The ceasar salad had lots of bacon & dressing. Our puppo loved the bacon. We sat on the dog friendly patio. My husband ordered the appetizer smoked meatballs & truffle fries. A huge amount of fries!

We stopped to eat here quite randomly as we were going to Chemainus for a quick walk around. We really enjoyed our food, my hubby said that the chicken sandwich was one of the best he'd had! The bartenders and servers were easy going and nice to talk to. I'd recommend this pub to anyone!

Stopped in one evening with 2 friends, we shared Fry Bread - cumin, sea salt, chipotle aioli, lime - soooo goood! Pear & Gorgonzola -arugula, red wine poached pears, gorgonzola, candied cashews, honey thyme vinaigrette, balsamic glaze. - one of the best salads I've ever had. Pulled Pork Poutine - fries, cheese curds, smoked pulled pork, gravy. very good! All in all recommend eating there. #pulledporkpoutine #peargorgonzolasalad #balsamicglaze #breadwithseasalt #sawmilltaphouseandgrill #sawmillchemainus

Waitress forget a beverage so had to remind her when the wings came, according to the menu we were over charged, 28$ for two ciders??? Kinda odd since the menu states a totally different price. Beer battered cod was a bit raw batter, fries were typical frozen skinny fries, but huge kudos to the smoked hot wings. I’d definitely go again but not order fish n chips nor a $14. cider. Patio was great. Dogs only allowed on the front entrance patio. There is an elevator for the buildings to get to the top floor from bottom parking lot. Edit My menu pic from the internet was wrong, my bad. But be warned people’s $14 for a sleeve of CIDER is not normal. Not NORMAL!

Went for lunch on a Monday. No crowd, sat inside. Ordered crispy chicken burger and got beef mushroom soup instead of fries. Usually not a big fan of mushroom but this soup was delicious. Chicken burger was good too. The service was good but the washroom area slightly smelled. Good food - recommend
Prasanth B — Google review
We stopped in for dinner on June 2, 2025 for our 35th wedding anniversary and we were very disappointed. The service was horrible, everyone seemed miserable and very unfriendly! Chicken wings were good, pizza was soggy/burnt and beef dip bun wasn’t toasted and Caesar salad was dry. Waitress took forever to check on us and never asked if we wanted another drink or whether we wanted dessert or anything else. Brought us a box for leftover pizza and then she never came back to ask anything and we had to flag someone else down for the bill. She came and basically through the debit machine on the table and turned and walked away and was very rude! We had a gift card and had to wait for her to come back to deal with it. It’s really a shame as the ambience is really nice inside.

My husband and I had the Thursday specials - won ton soup for me and fish and chips for him. $18 & 17 respectively and a great bargain. The won ton soup was a ton of food - fresh veggies and protein and although busy, the service was fabulous.

First time trying this place. Went for the Chinese special night. Food was absolutely incredible. You could taste how fresh it was. I was sceptical considering I’ve had wings cafe Chinese food before and it was absolutely terrible and inedible. This was a huge surprise probably one of the best Chinese meals I’ve had in like decades. Service was awesome super friendly and attentive. There’s a reason this place was absolutely packed and people lined up out the door.
K S — Google review
Every aspect of our dining experience was so good here! We came with our friend who is local. We had the combination plate, their famous wonton soup, and a stir fry with chicken and curry sauce. We also tried their halibut dinner special of the month. They have amazing handmade pies, which was perfection. The food is so good, but the people were even nicer. They are the sweetest people you’ll meet. Hard working Chinese who knows how to cook amazing food and feed your soul too!

Honestly, with Bonnie Martens being around so long it’s almost a staple in Chemanus they have to go to. The staff are very friendly. The food is absolutely amazing and one thing that this place is famous for is their war wonton soup. This place is a must visit and eat at if you also like to see more beautiful photos check me out on Facebook at VanIsland images.

Lovely, unassuming place for lunch. Good selection to please a lot of palates with the addition of some Asian cuisine choices. Prices were quite reasonable and the fish we all had was nice and fresh.
James C — Google review
Excellent little out of the way restaurant. They have a huge menu and you can order western and Chinese cuisine. We had the Monte Cristo with fries and wor wonton soup and a beef dip. The beef dip was delicious. The wor wonton soup was delicious as well. Small is definitely large enough for one, maybe even two people. The Monte Cristo was good but we have had better. Just needed something but we couldn't put our finger on it. Still good though. The staff was sure running because it was packed. We finished off with a chocolate banana cream pie! Whole banana pieces in the pie and the crust was delicious and flakey. Definitely recommend.
Cynthia G — Google review
The entire meal was cold, not even lukewarm warm. I understand they were busy but would have assumed that meant the meals would be hot. When we told the waitress she said she was sorry & when we told the owner his reply was “that’s too bad” & walked away.

Owl's Nest Bakery and Bistro in Chemainus is a cozy spot with a warm, homey atmosphere. The bistro is known for its delicious eggs benedict dishes and unique specialty coffees like the beetroot latte. The service is prompt, polite, and efficient, making for a great experience. The cafe offers indoor and limited outdoor seating with lots of owl-themed decor.
Very good food and very good coffee (Drumroaster). Owl's Nest is a mandatory stop in Chemainus. Cozy atmosphere, with good homemade food and coffee from local coffee roaster Drumroaster (I highly recommend you to purchase a coffee bag there). I stop there every time I'm going to Chemainus.

I stopped by Owl’s Nest Bakery in Chemainus and ordered a scone with a dark roast coffee — such a perfect combination! The staff were very welcoming and warm, which made the visit even more enjoyable. I was very satisfied with what I ordered, and it makes me believe the rest of their food and drinks will be just as great. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more from their menu!
Sheika F — Google review
Great experience at this cafe. The service was prompt, polite, and efficient. The food was delicious I got the Bacon Avocado Benny with no bacon and my only complaint was there wasn't quite enough bread to sop up all the yolks and sauce. My husband got the Holy Cowichan Bowl and finished every bite. We shared the berry lemon scone it was delicious. The atmosphere is cute with, not surprisingly, lots of owl themed decor. Indoor and limited outdoor seating are available.

White chocolate scone was AMAZING, and the chai latte was great as well. The traditional breakfast was just what you would expect, while the salmon benny was mediocre. Overall, the atmosphere was excellent and made the experience enjoyable.

Thai restaurant
@THAI PINTO CUISINE is a Thai restaurant known for its outstanding service. The owner, Art, is a remarkable host who proactively contacts customers before their visit. He prioritizes communication regarding food allergies and helps patrons select dishes that are guaranteed to be allergen-free. Art takes great care in reading ingredient labels and ensuring that preparation stations are free from contact with allergens.
My girlfriend loves Thai food, so we checked out this little gem in Chemainus after seeing the great reviews—and it did not disappoint. The food has that authentic, traditional Thai flavour without any gimmicks. The papaya salad was fresh, zesty, and served in a generous portion. The beef Pad Thai was spot on—flavorful, balanced, and true to taste. The owner is super friendly, and the service was fast and welcoming. Prices are very reasonable, and there’s plenty of street parking nearby. Highly recommended if you’re in the area and craving real Thai food done right.
JJ — Google review
I’ve been ordering several times from Thai Pinto in Chemainus, and it’s always been a go-to spot whenever I’m craving authentic flavors. My usual favorite is the Som Tam (papaya salad), which I always get at Thai level spiciness. The taste has been consistently good, but I did notice some inconsistency in the serving—before, there used to be a generous portion of papaya, while now it seems more on lettuce, which feels more like a garnish than the main part of the dish. I’ve also tried their Tom Yum soup, and while I found it had a lot of tomato chunks, the flavor itself was still comforting and flavorful. My meals are never complete without pairing them with their Thai iced green tea or Thai milk tea, both of which are refreshing and perfectly balanced. Overall, the taste at Thai Pinto is good and worth coming back for, but I hope they bring back the generous papaya portions in their Som Tam to make it even better.
Sheika F — Google review
Great place to stop! We showed up for an early lunch just after opening so it wasn’t busy at all yet. I really should pay more attention to the names of the people serving us because our waiter really was quite funny and so nice…laughing all the time and telling us funny stories. I wasn’t overly hungry so had decided on the coconut soup with prawns but then spied papaya salad! Always get papaya salad! So delicious and a little spicy (by about mouthful 3, more spicy 😉) The soup was equally as good…beautiful flavour. My hubby had the cashew chicken and said it was delicious. I highly recommend a visit here if you’re in the area. If you’re not, take a road trip!
Debbie — Google review
Food are delicious and staff are friendly very recommended Thai food in Nanaimo.
Berry C — Google review
We had no idea how good this place would be before walking in the front door. But our host/waiter was wonderful and helpful and entertaining. The food came fast, was hot and tasted great. The three of us each ordered a dish and shared amongst ourselves. It was a warm evening and we are on the deck outside which was lovely and cool. Prices were very reasonable considering how good the meal was. If I lived in Chemainus I would be eating here on a regular basis.
Brïan G — Google review
Road trips are the best. I wanted to stop in at this sea side town to take a break and stretch our legs. My best friend Julia walked past this restaurant and suggested we have dinner here. I love Thai food and the relaxed look of the place drew me in. Our host was Art, and let me say, I loved his energy and his enthusiasm. He told me, as I payed my bill, his family has run this successful business for almost a decade, I believe it. He said it’s about cooking from the heart. Let me tell you.. the food is delicious and the price is just right. Take the time to stop here and enjoy a delicious meal, then walk down to the beach, it’s so beautiful there.
Thewackeddoctors — Google review
The service here is outstanding. They bring the friendliness for which the Thai people are famous. The atmosphere is clean and uncluttered while still managing to feel welcoming. The food is prepared following authentic technique adapted for Canadian ingredients. For example, in the pad Thai, you will find green onion instead of the Chinese chive, as well as a lack of salted radish and dried shrimp. These are reasonable compromises and have a minimal impact on the flavor of the dishes, but this is why I knocked off a star on the food. Mostly I am sad because I know how good it would be if they had easier access to these ingredients. The curries vary from Thai hot to zero spice on demand without almost no compromise on richness and flavor. They include the usual suspects but panang is surprisingly absent from the menu. The chicken satay is perfect, and the peanut dipping sauce is fantastic. Thai beer is available and the coconut ice cream dessert is not to be missed.
Andrew H — Google review
Why did it take me so long to try this amazing restaurant. My drunken noodles and iced Thai coffee were delicious. Lovely service! I like how you can choose to sit outside or inside. I will definitely be back.

This family-friendly eatery offers an impressive array of dishes that span from Canadian classics to flavorful Chinese and Indian options. You simply can't miss their renowned curry chicken, crispy wings, and delightful Chinese buffet. The menu features everything from perfectly fried chicken to savory chow mein and succulent fried prawns, making it a paradise for food lovers.
Had the best Egg Foo Young! Very delicious and full of veggies and BBQ Pork. The portion was very generous and made for good leftovers!
Samantha D — Google review
Possibly the worst Chinese food I’ve had. Combo 1 consisted of pork fried rice, chicken chow mein and lemon chicken. The lemon chicken was uninspired but passable. The rice had little seasoning and a tiny amount of add ins. The chow mein however was the piece de resistance. A pile of unsauced, unseasoned noodles with a few scraps of onion. To qualify as a chicken dish it had half a dozen scraps of processed chicken. The service was fast and friendly but it’s not a place I would ever go to again.
Kim G — Google review
We ordered a few dishes from Wing Café and it was a nice treat compared to our every day meal at home. Currently they’re just doing takeout so be prepared to order ahead.
South S — Google review
Had a combo and it was the worst lemon chicken I've ever had. Lemon sauce I thought was gravy of some kind and the chicken chow was nothing but boiled noodles with I'm guessing chicken loaf cut up and all six pieces represented the chicken in that dish. Deep fried prawns with a lot of batter to make them appear bigger. Couldn't finish was feeling scared at that point. So sad 😔
Toby J — Google review
Not a good place at all for Chinese food, and I am Chinese. The Cantonese chow mein is the worst plate of noodles I've ever encountered. It tasted like phlegm-salty, cold and goopy with no other flavor profile. The noodles were not the proper Cantonese noodles-it actually tasted like stale noodles. We got mushroom egg foo young but it was not the star of the dish- way too much cabbage and parts of it were not cooked. Ordered Wor wonton which is usually a huge dish to begin with - was served in a regular sized small wonton soup container. Will not be returning. Over priced ($73 for 4 wishes) and bland af.
Melanie — Google review
Without a doubt the worst Chinese food I have ever ate in my entire life. $20.50 for a combo of inedible slop. This place has gone down hill with ownership over the years. Do not waste your money here
K S — Google review
The chow mein was spoiled, and everything else tasted exactly the same. The beef and chicken were incredibly bad — the worst restaurant I’ve ever eaten at!
Aliceads — Google review
$68 for the most appalling take away. Chow mein was bland noodles with julienne deli meat and a tiny bit of cabbage. Dry and disgusting. Almond chicken tasted like it was reheated from yesterday’s service. Boneless sweet and sour pork was disappointing. Young woman at counter was lovely. Tipped her well.. hope she keeps the tips, not the kitchen. Huge waste of cash. Bleccch. Don’t bother darkening their doors.

Such a great place. I work in Chemainus and can't stop myself from coming here for their Pho (specifically the beef/brisket). The staff is so friendly. Come with a good appetite because good gawwwd the bowls are biiig.
Cody A — Google review
Excellent and we'll balance Pho and appetizers with delicious dips. For the appetizers, I order the Spring Rolls and deep fried Wonton. The spring rolls were crunchy soft and delicious and the was simple and but complements the spring rolls. For the Fried Wonton, I used the spicy sauce for the Satay with I do recommend using it instead as a dip. I had the Pho Satay which had beef brisket and slices which melted in my mouth and was delicious all around. This is my second time coming to this place and it was still good the second time around.
Gio S — Google review
We visited Chemainus while on vacation and were blown away by their incredible food! Their Curry Chay (V5) was so delicious. Great food at good prices. Definitely visit them if you like Vietnamese food!
David S — Google review
Peak Vietnamese. The cha giao (deep fried spring rolls) are clearly hand made and cooked to a perfect deep golden brown. They have a good crunch without overcooking the mix inside. Dipping sauce is a classic nuoc cham. Balanced, but lacking the heat in a clear and reasonable compromise with Canadian tastes. When I asked for some chili to add, they happily brought it out. I had a bowl of pho which was also excellent. Clear broth just exploding with flavor. The rice noodles were cooked just right and not clumpy. Generous bean sprouts, cilantro and Thai basil. Service was friendly, attentive and bilingual (English and Vietnamese). The decore has hole in the wall vibes: dated but well maintained and very very clean.
Andrew H — Google review
Was passing through, and decided to try a drive through Chemainus! Because why not? I had the lunch special, and a salad roll. I struggle to give two stars to this place, all because of their crunchy rice. Rice shouldn't be crunchy. It just shouldn't. There's a difference between crisp. This was get crunchy and stuck in your teeth crunchy. The salad roll was tasty, but overly expensive for what it actually was. It's a pass from me dawg. Super friendly staff though.

**update- we went back for the first time since 2020, when Covid hit. Food was still delicious...it's just sad that places are having such a hard time finding staff, because clearly they needed help. Keeping the 5 stars, because no fault of their own. And hey, they survived through the pandemic and probably appreciate all their loyal customers coming back. Check it out, you won't be disappointed. Hint: Very busy through dinner hour 5-6, so if you can eat a bit earlier or later, less of a wait time. They had lots of takeout orders at this time as well. Great food! Always fresh and delicious, never disappointed. I usually order the prawn bowl, which has 6 big prawns, spring roll, stir fried veggies on top of vermicelli noodles. Simply delicious! The server is polite and on the ball! My favorite place in Chemainus!

Nestled in the charming town of Chemainus, Haida Way Restaurant is a delightful spot that serves up classic diner fare and beloved family favorites. This eatery is perfect for those looking to enjoy a hearty meal with loved ones. Diners rave about their unique offerings, such as the oyster burger, which has garnered praise for its exceptional taste. The friendly service adds to the welcoming atmosphere, making every visit memorable.
Haida way has a rustic charm and friendly staff. Our server was timely and cheerful. We had the beef dip and stir-fry. Mine (the beef dip) had a fresh bun and just the right amount of beef. The fries were crisp with a perfect crunch on the outside. The dip was not as dark colored as I am used to seeing but had good flavor. The color threw me off thinking it was watered down but had great taste. The stir fry was so yummy my wife cleaned the whole plate with just the right mix of veggies. (some just fill the plate with bell peppers, this was not the case here). All in all I Would recomend the place. The table tops could use a refresh. Enjoyed the food and service!
Allen V — Google review
The service was amazing, the staff were all wonderfully friendly. The menu and restaurant was exactly what you would expect, so many wonderful choices. I chose the Teriyaki Chicken senior meal (they didn’t check my age 🤔 . A very small piece of chicken, bland mashed potatoes and what looked like frozen cubed vegetables with a small bun. Maybe the breakfast is better and the other diners Chinese food looked like old school good. Wish I hadn’t gotten sick that night
W H — Google review
A clean, retro diner with good service. I tried the chicken curry as it had such great reviews (half portion was big enough for me, a medium-sized woman). It was breaded chicken strips on rice with brown curry sauce poured over the top. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t particularly good either. Definitely disappointing given the raving reviews. My partner had spaghetti in meat & tomato sauce which was OK. Both came with garlic toast. Portions were a decent size and we did finish our food. The average age in there was around 65 or so. Perhaps it’s very safe and comforting food for people who aren’t very adventurous. It’s almost a gem but the food didn’t quite make it for me.

“DDs” service was outstanding , she was so busy but tended to us quickly and professionally… food came out a “bit slow” according to her we may have waited 30 minutes. … coffee refills kept coming and was so incredibly tentative with out being over bearing every one she was serving seemed completely content the place was packed and we seriously had the best service we have had in years thank you for being here we realy appreciate you !

Not bad but nothing to write home about. Seemed like a good spot to break rough news to someone as the table next to me had something like going on. All around a solid meal.

Got the steak medium and eggs over easy…. Unfortunately the steak was burnt and VERY grisly, didn’t finish it. Dinner on the other hand… OMG all three dishes were tasty and amazing! Can’t tell you about the Pacific seafood chowder as it unfortunately never arrived at the table! 😕

Outstanding service, the staff truly love their job. This restaurant brings you back to the 90’s I can’t wait to come back. Prices are amazing and the atmosphere well I mean you just have to come in to experience. True authentic service you just don’t see much anymore.

Sushi Kuni is a delightful gem located on Vancouver Island, perfect for sushi lovers seeking a quick and tasty meal. Recently, the restaurant has been undergoing renovations but remains committed to serving delicious dishes. Diners have praised their efficiency, especially when pressed for time—like catching a ferry! The staff's dedication to preparing fresh sushi quickly is commendable, ensuring that customers enjoy flavorful meals even in a rush.
Dropped in for Two bento boxes. Dynamite with Chicken and California with Beef. You can see in the picture what a quality product they served as take out. The deep fried parts were perfect bite sized pieces. The salad was great, The sushi was perfect only thing missing in my opinion was ginger slices. I Would repeat this anytime. Thank You.

Close to Ferry and some other shops.. I love the Sushi! It was delicious! They don't have a dine area the last we were there. So, we just did a take out. We are ordering back if going to Chemainus.

A Hidden Gem in Chemainus! We had a wonderful meal at this small takeout sushi place with our family of three. From sushi to tempura, and even Korean style fried chicken, everything was absolutely delicious. Even though it's a takeout-only spot, the owner served us water, which was a nice touch and truly appreciated. This place may be small and simple, but the care and freshness of the fish were impressive. While we were eating, the phone kept ringing with orders, and the place seemed to be quite popular in the neighborhood. I was hesitant to visit after reading some negative reviews, but after experiencing the friendly service and amazing food, I was completely taken aback. It was such a pleasant surprise! The tempura, in particular, was outstanding—truly the best I’ve had in a long time. The freshness and quality of the food made it a perfect meal, and if I’m ever back in Chemainus, I will definitely return. Highly recommend this spot for anyone who loves fresh and tasty Japanese food!

We had a ferry to catch in a matter of minutes, and they were the only place open nearby. We told them our situation, they looked at the clock, and said it will be tight but they could do it. And off they went! It was like an Olympic event, them dashing around to put together our order. I was getting nervous, but thankfully, you can actually see the ferry from their restaurant. Not only did they finish our food just in time, but it was delicious! Well done, yum yum!!! And the prices are fair.

We went to try the Korean fried chicken. We got a half order of boneless yangnyeom. It was pretty good, probably the best I've had in Chemainus, but not quite as crispy as other spots in Vancouver and Victoria. However, the seasoning was spot on with enough spice to make it pop, but not enough to hurt 😆 Finally, the service was friendly and efficient, no complaints there.

Was hoping to sit in and work on my laptop while I ate and finally try this place for the first time, but for some reason I was not allowed to do this despite an empty table and power outlet right beside it. Guess they don't need my business! ETA: Oh yes, you have indeed made it ABUNDANTLY clear that this is definitely not the right place for me 🤣
Ryan W — Google review
Fish on the nigiri was ... aged. The smell of decay wafted up when we opened the takeaway box (in the restaurant; there was no service, but you could order takeaway and eat at one of the two tables). Easily the second worst sushi I've ever had.
Drake S — Google review
Not a good experience. The sushi tastes way off and not authentic. It’s more expensive than most other places around ladysmith, chamanus area. The vassabi and soy sauce are sweet! I don’t understand how that’s even possible. Gyozas tastes like not gyoza. Basically don’t throw your money away and try other places. P.S. those ppl who give 5star to places like this, are those who have never been to Vancouver where real sushi experience can be achieved almost in every corner!

Invitation Indian Cuisine is a highly regarded establishment that offers delectable Indian cuisine. Located just a short stroll away from the Wayward Inn, this restaurant has gained popularity among food enthusiasts. As a British individual who appreciates authentic Indian flavors, I often encounter disappointment when seeking similar experiences abroad. However, Invitation Indian Cuisine surpassed all expectations as it provided the best North American culinary experience I have had thus far.
We had an amazing vegan meal here. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We ordered the veggie pakora, vegetable coconut curry (make sure to order it dairy-free for vegan) with chickpeas ($3 extra), and chana masala. Everything was perfectly seasoned and so satisfying. The vegetable coconut curry was creamy and delicious and had an excellent assortment of veggies. The chana masala was very flavourful and not overly oily as it can be at other restaurants. It was one of the best chana masalas I’ve had (and I’ve tried a lot). The pakoras were also crispy and delicious. We loved it, and will definitely be back again soon!

So we eat here probably once a month, and most of the time the food is fairly decent. Today however we got takeout and we were served rice that was crunchy as if it were 5 hours or older. We also tried something new the calamari and before ordering we asked if it was good and they said yes. The calamari is clearly freezer burnt and was so rubbery you could use it as a hair tie. We are noticing over the past couple months that things are getting worse every time we go. We hope that the food gets better from here on out or we will have to find a new place to eat.

I had lunch here today. The food was absolutely delicious. Some of the best Indian cuisine I have ever had. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and atmosphere is great. However I want to point out the service could be a bit more attentive and engaging. It would of made the experience better in my opinion. Not a big deal. Besides that I had a wonderful experience dining here and would definitely come back, I recommend anybody to try Invitation Indian Cuisine! Thanks again.

We happened upon this delightful Indian restaurant while staying for a few days in Chemanius. The food is fantastic. We ordered butter chicken (yummy), Dahl (delectable ) and Vegetable Biryani (awesome) with naan and rice. There was lots leftover as the servings were very generous. It was some of the tastiest Indian food we have had in long time . We ordered mild (cause we have wimpy taste buds) but were sure they spicier servings would suit those that desire the experience.

Friendly staff. Reaaaally great food. I'm increasing my spice-tolerance and they are slowly increasing it each time I come in and ask for it. Definitely recommend the Lamb Korma. The Butter Chicken is perfection. Also try anything that mentions Paneer. Its guaranteed to be good.

Many patrons appreciate the friendly service and consistent quality of food at locations like Chemainus Subway, where regulars often rave about the perfectly crafted sandwiches by familiar staff members.

Navdeep J — Google review
Used to order on the app when short on time and heading to Chemainus. Subs were always ready on time but made with a little less ‘enthusiasm’ than if it was made right in front of you. The last time I tried this the app froze and never completed my order, at least not the food part. Showed up and had the sub made in person instead and made sure to ask if the order went through, it hadn’t. A week later I get order confirmation and a charge on my credit card. Calling the store I was told there was nothing they can do over the phone, even with the order number, etc. so I made an inquiry through the website. A week later I get a response asking for information about the order from TJ Grewal, the owner. I promptly responded with exactly what was requested only to be ghosted. 2 more emails asking where we’re at, no response. I sure hope my $12.29 was worth it, I won’t be giving this location any more business.

Really great location for Subway--excellent balance of all sub ingredients and friendly staff (visited Friday evening)! Clean washroom, too.

Ordered through app in the store with a deal for free combo upgrade. Staff that made the sandwich saw the order went through on the app on the cell phone with the redeemed coupon. Upon check out their reciept from the till did not show the redeemed deal. Staff was not helpful resolving the problem but continued to print prior reciepts from other customers to prove a point instead of helping. The two staff went on to say call subway office as the app is the problem and they will not honour what the phone screen reciept was showing. There was no one else in the business and no other orders pending. Both staff teamed up to make excuses and became defensive. I definitely do not feel comfortable to be returning at this location as neaby Subway in Ladysmith and Duncan staff is always courteous and helpful.

Hidden Gem on the Way to Victoria! I stopped by Soul’s Toast while driving through Malahat, and I was truly impressed. From the outside, it looks simple, but the food is absolutely top-notch. I had the Shrimp Soul’s Toast, and it was delicious – the tempura shrimp were perfectly crispy and the sauce was full of flavour. The portion was generous and everything was fresh. The service was amazing! The owner was super friendly and welcoming – you can tell they really care about their customers and what they serve. It felt more like visiting a friend than just eating out. This spot is definitely worth checking out – great food, warm atmosphere, and fair prices. I’ll definitely be back! *Rating:* ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

Wow. Wow. Wow. The traffic was absolutely horrendous there and back but the food made me forget all about it. I had the Smile Chicken Toast (spicy) and my son had the Shrimp Souls Toast. These sandwiches are massive, filled to the brim with deliciousness. We decided to get the meal with both of ours, which included a can of pop and side of Potato Puff Fries. If you go here, and I suggest you do, bring extra napkins or wet wipes, your face and hands will need it once you are done stuffing your face with your sandwich. Service was excellent and friendly and the value for what you pay is much better than other places. I didn’t feel as though I was swindled. I was really full after I was done. There is no inside seating. But there are several picnic style seating options.

Amazing as always! The Smile Chicken Toast is so perfect. Crispy juicy chicken melts in your mouth, delicious bread toasted to perfection, fresh cabbage sliced thin soaks up the unbelievably tasty sauce (spicy option is the perfect amount of heat). One of the best sandwiches I've ever had!! Worth every penny. So happy that Soul's Toast is here, the food is so good and Soul is a wonderful person. Highly recommend supporting this business, your tummy and taste buds will thank you!

Both staff were lovely and the food was delicious. We got the angry egg toast and the smile chicken. Food was made fresh there and packed so it was still warm when we got home. Highly recommend driving through the Malahat to give it a try or stopping on your way over!

Wow what an amazing hidden gem. Stopped here on our drive from Victoria to Tofino for some lunch and we’re not expecting such a special experience. Easily one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had in my life. They are big but I ate the whole thing with enthusiasm and then finished my wife’s. The tater tots were exceptional as well. Do yourself a favour and check this place out. We both had the fried chicken sandwich (think it was called the smile chicken sandwich). I preferred the spicy one to the mild
Sam K — Google review
Heard some great reviews about this place but it took 2 tries to finally get to try this place out. The first two times we tried, they were randomly closed, so don’t trust the hours open on google. However it’s never been a biggie and we figured one day we’d catch him being open and today was the day. My husband order the spicy chicken sandwich and I ordered the shrimp patty sandwich. We were not expecting the monstrosity that were the sandwiches otherwise we probably would have shared. No complaints though! Food came out a bit slower but it was busy. The owner (I can only presume) came out to each table to check up on us and seemed super cheery and friendly. And the prices for the sandwiches were actually super reasonable for what you ordered. I made mine a combo (which included tater tots and a canned pop) for 15.00 total which is a pleasant surprise in this expensive world. Would I go back? Yes I would. Would I recommend this place? I already did!

If you're in the mood for a delightful pizza experience, look no further than Little Town Pizza. This charming eatery prides itself on using fresh ingredients sourced from local farmers markets while maintaining a commitment to zero food waste. During my recent stay at the Best Western nearby, I decided to indulge in two medium pizzas for just $35! After some friendly conversation with the staff about being an out-of-towner, I settled on Mediterranean and Hawaiian flavors.
Awesome local pizza shop! These guys were great tonight. I’d never been here before but I’ll definitely be back! Ordering online was easy, they gave me a call with a 5min heads up of when my pizza would be ready & when I showed up to pick it up they even had FREE homemade ice cream sandwiches to go with the pizza! The pizza was delicious and just as I ordered! And on top of that they had a giveaway draw for $50 gift cards! Would definitely recommend checking them out!

Stayed in area overnight at Best Western , decided to get pizza. It was two medium pizzas for 35$ !! Made a conversation about me being from out of town , took a minute to decide on which kind I wanted for dinner and leftovers? Went with Mediterranean and Hawaiian. It was busy with orders, and staff were still happy and cheerful. 30 min, they said ! So it was perfect for a cruise around town to check out the awesome buildings with artwork on them. Went back, and pizzas just came out of the oven !! Tasted delicious and even better the next day ! It's definitely worth stopping in !! Waiting area, refreshments here to purchase. Parking is a bit tricky on the street.

Ordered pizza while in Duncan. 45 mins. Pick up time 7pm. Cool. Drive to LC 7:10pm go to pick up pizza and they had not even started it. I asked oh you were busy. No I was told. No they just didn’t cook your pizza. No reason but they didn’t want to. I now have two starving kids waiting for pizza. I cancled my order and got A&W. the only reason they get a stars for service is cuz the delivery driver who ended up making my pizzas and helping me get a refund was really really nice. Give her a raise.

On my initial visit to Misfits Fitness Studio & Health Bar, I was thoroughly impressed. Although I cannot personally comment on the fitness aspect, as my purpose was solely to sample the food and beverages, I found the service to be exceptional. The staff members were welcoming and accommodating, and the menu offered a satisfactory variety of options. Furthermore, there were numerous baked goods available, as well as vegan choices for those with dietary restrictions. It is worth noting that they utilize environmentally friendly packaging materials.
I vistied for the first time to check it out, and I definitely have to say I'm impressed! While I can't speak for the fitness aspect, as I just got some food and a drink, I was very happy with the service I got. Friendly staff, a reasonably sized menu, an assortment of baked items, and vegan options for those who would need them. Not to mention the biodegradable packaging. Both the drinks and the food tasted very good, and the interior was aesthetically pleasing and had an inviting atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

If you find yourself in Chemainus, make sure to visit Chemainus Banh Mi for an unforgettable taste of authentic Vietnamese cuisine. This charming spot specializes in fresh and flavorful banh mi sandwiches that are crafted with care. The cold cut option is a standout, featuring a perfectly warmed baguette paired with house-made pâté, pickled carrots, radish, and cilantro—each bite bursting with flavor.
I’ve been on the hunt for an authentic Vietnamese Banh Mi that tastes just like the ones we enjoyed in Vietnam—and Chemainus Banh Mi truly delivers! Every sandwich is made with fresh, high-quality ingredients that burst with bold, vibrant flavors. The crusty yet tender baguette, perfectly seasoned meats, fresh herbs, and crunchy pickled vegetables come together beautifully, just like the authentic street food we fell in love with overseas. The iced Vietnamese coffee is rich, smooth, and perfectly sweetened, perfect for any day! The owners are incredibly warm, friendly, and welcoming, creating a comfortable atmosphere that makes every visit special. I’m especially grateful for how seriously they take allergies and dietary needs, offering peace of mind along with amazing food. Although we typically visit Chemainus only once or twice a year, we’ve already been back three weekends in a row because the food is that good! The prices are very affordable given the freshness, quality, and generous portions. If you want an authentic taste of Vietnam in a cozy, friendly setting, look no further than Chemainus Banh Mi. It’s a true gem!

I've traveled Hanoi all the way down to Saigon and feel like the size of this spot reflects the space needed to create this wonderful Bahn Mi. I went with the top item cold cut and was impressed with the fresh baguette and the house-made pate spread. Temperature of the warmed baguette and the cold cut/ pickled carrot-radish & cilantro all came together bite after bite and the jalapeno pepper ( as requested bit back nicely.) I ordered the Vietnamese iced coffee and it was prepared in advance. I asked the shop keeper next I come back that it be made traditionally (slow espresso drip process ) and I will be patient for the slower more potent extraction process. This place is incredible and so glad to have access to this in our community! A friend of mine recommended this place and I am so glad to have found my new Banh Mi bar.

Spectacular!! We’re so lucky to have Chemainus Banh Mi in our little town. The food is incredible every time (worth going for the bread alone, honestly!). We tried the lemongrass tofu and it’s so flavourful and balanced. The portions are huge for the price - one banh mi can feed both me and my husband for lunch. The Vietnamese iced coffee is off the charts, too! Best of all, Chemainus Banh Mi is run by the loveliest people. Despite the big-city flavour, they bring the small town charm, and remembered me after just one visit. Highly recommend!

Just discovered this wonderful little takeout spot today! Tran, the owner was so friendly and welcoming and even let me try his homemade pickle, which stayed crunchy as promised, before putting together my delicious grilled lemongrass chicken Banh Mi on the perfect baguette (“squishable” with a crispy golden crust). The silky chicken liver pate was nicely seasoned, as was the grilled chicken — mayo, a sprinkling of cilantro and a dash of soy sauce adding just the right flavors. My sandwich was more than enough for two of us and we enjoyed it at home with my homemade slaw. Next time I’m definitely going to try Tran’s Vietnamese coffee! If you’re ever on Willow Street in the quaint town of Chemainus and are looking for an easy lunch with authentic flavors and homemade ingredients, I highly recommend heading to Tran’s Chemainus Banh Mi! Thank you, Tran, for a great street-foodie experience!

Seriously so good! One bite and I knew that I’d be coming back in the future. Hopefully sooner rather than later. It’s such a good banh mi!! The bread has an amazing crust and soft center. The pate has a great flavour and the pickles are super crunchy. Lastly the lemongrass chicken actually tastes like it has been graced with the lemongrass flavour. 10/10 - Will definitely eat again The owner was supper nice and friendly and he made the banh mi with such care.

I have been to Vietnam a couple of times, Banh Mi and Vietnamese coffee are two things I miss the most from my trips there. Chemainus Banh Mi 100% hits the spot for both. The sandwiches are absolutely delicious, the bun is perfect, all the ingredients inside were just awesome. The coffee felt like I was sitting back in Ho Chi Minh watching the city bustle around me. The service was incredible, prices are good and I will without a doubt be back within the week. 10 out of 10 would recommend to anyone.

My husband and I went to the pub tonight for wing night. It was incredibly busy with the staff run off their feet. Despite that they were attentive and friendly and our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and delicious as always. Very Disappointing! My wife and I ordered the 2 piece cod with chips plus 1 extra piece of fish.Portions are very small, fish is not breaded properly, got to hot and dried out in the fryer. One piece of fish was definitely past it's best before date. With this we received about 2 palms full of fries , a "shot glass" of coleslaw and not enough tarter sauce for one person. We won't be back. Saturday, April 13. we did not say we were charged for coleslaw. We did not call since this was what you presented us with for our money, it did not seem like anything would change.
