There for a special night with ron blauw 🌟🌟 chef, unbelievable experience with mind blowing food 😀

Made a reservation, noted gluten and dairy as dietary restrictions. The reservation i made was for inside of the restaurant, instead we were placed right next to the street, so every car and bus passing, was inches from us and our food. Okay, fine. As we were seated, the server brought a menu in Dutch with notations, things that are non-compliant marked with an X, things that can be made to accommodate marked with an A, and things without a mark that are compliant. And the same menu in English. Great start. We made the selections, i specifically reiterated to the server one of the things I'm ordering needs to be altered to accommodate the restrictions. After some wait, the food arrived. Placed in front of me was, from what i could tell, the original dish. I asked if there's gluten in these crackers, the server didn't know. Go ask please. Sure enough, the crackers had gluten in them. When we ask you to accommodate dietary restrictions, do you think we're playing?!?! Do we think we do this for fun?!?! I don't know if the server didn't relay this to the kitchen or the kitchen didn't care but that's just reckless and dangerous. This is a Michelin recommended restaurant. The food was meh. The spare ribs were okay but the sauces that went with them my dining partner didn't like very much. I ordered the razor clam salad which was tiny, which i can forgive, but all you could taste was garlic. And then there were the mashed baby potatoes. Not mashed, just 4 or 5 of them, tiny, cooked and cut in half, with some lettuce added, some egg white, some i assume canned olives and then drowned in a sauce that was essentially mayonnaise. So every bit was a spoonful of mayonnaise. Just no. It wasn't cheap either but I'll gladly pay for a good meal. This was not that. Food was borderline atrocious and the service was just plain bad. What a letdown.
E L — Google review
The food was okay, small bites for small dinner, but the reason that we will not come again is the unfriendly service and we were visiting from Germany so we don’t speak Dutch and it was a surprise to us that we couldn’t communicate in English with the waitress. Also those small bites came after 55 minutes. Not a pleasant experience.
Duaa Q — Google review
Very kind service and amazing food well worth its spot in the Michelin guide.
Benedikt S — Google review
Been here twice before, first for just drinks and the second time for food. Most recently, got food and drinks and it was just as incredible as I remember. The macaroons were delicious, the Seabass delectable, and flat iron steak out of this world. So glad they’re recognized by Michelin and can’t wait to return!
CJ W — Google review
I have been here twice. Both times I ordered the 4-course chef’s menu. The first time they booked our table downstairs, service was very fast and nice, and dishes were delicious. This last time, they seated us upstairs and the service was not good. Super long waiting times, we even thought they forgot we still missed our 4th dish, which was in the end a very disappointing dessert. The quality of the food is good and I know that going for the chef’s menu can always be a more or less pleasant experience according to individual taste. However, the quality of the service should definitely be improved.

We went on a sunday evening. Convenient for the Rebyl hotel around the corner and recommended to us by the hotel bar. We ordered 4 sharing dishes (salmon, cod, gnocci and ribs) plus fries between 2 people. The food quality was outstanding, and the staff are super-friendly. Great atmosphere.

Had a really lovely time here. They serve delicious Aperol Spritz and other cocktails. They recommend getting 3 dishes per person which I would agree with, portions are small and meant to be shared. Really nice experience :)) deffo would go again

Restaurant
Organic restaurant
Restaurant De Nieuwe Winkel is a hidden gem located in a former 14th-century orphanage in the heart of Nijmegen. This upscale restaurant offers an innovative farm-based menu with a focus on botanical gastronomy, utilizing a variety of edible plants to create unique and sustainable dishes. Chef Emile van der Staak's dedication to sustainability and the future of food is reflected in the predominantly plant-based, organic, and seasonal offerings.
Great dining experience, very interesting dishes, all vegan. I had the non-alcoholic food pairing and it was excellent. The food was fantastic, albeit the protein in two of the main dishes a bit too salty. Overall a balanced menu, with strong and beautiful flavors. The service is excellent-you can actually feel that people love to work there.
Simona C — Google review
One of our best food experiences ever! We had high hopes for De Nieuwe Winkel, and they did not disappoint. From the moment you step inside, you feel extremely welcomed. The cozy surroundings and the open kitchen makes for a special night, and the acoustics sound panels make it easy to hold a conversation. The food is obviously the no 1 element and it is extremely flavorful. Full of unique tastes and each dish is presented as a small piece of art. We had the spring awakenings menu, where dishes like the white asparagus, the sea fennel blossom and ocean-inspired desserts were unforgettable masterpieces. Highly recommend to visit this restaurant if you are looking for an exceptional dining experience!
Mathias V — Google review
Fantastic experience and a definite bucket list item! We loved the ambiance at the place and the fact that all different chefs serve their course to you. Flavours were unique, well-balanced, innovative and looked like art. I loved how they were able to play and work with structures that surprise you, especially since it’s all plantbased. We chose the non-alcoholic drinks pairing which was perfect. Very unique flavours and ways of fermentation and brewing that paired well with the food. It was an unforgettable experience. Thank you for a great night!
Yin Y — Google review
I had an exceptional dining experience at De Nieuwe Winkel in Nijmegen. The dishes were innovative, paired perfectly with non-alcoholic botanical drinks that elevated the flavors. The portions were generous, leaving me full yet eager to return for their seasonal menu. The calm atmosphere and attentive service made the evening even more enjoyable. A truly memorable culinary experience! I would totally recommend for this once in a lifetime experience.

Amazing experience, what an amazing flavours you can create with vegan food. So many special food preparations are really impressive. Some dishes take them 3 days to prepare. And what a fantastic service, so friendly, open, fun and knowledgeable👌👌 The wine pairing was good, interesting natural wines, not always the most amazing taste but nice and different than the main stream superb wines. The kitchen is open, small, very well organised and they invite you to have a look when you like 🤩🥳👌thanks so much to the amazing team for having us 👍👍

It is important to communicate with your customers if you have any. The visit was very short and nice staff member recommended her favourite restaurants nearby. I guess the owner does not care to add here that you have to book visit weeks ahead to get a table. Not very convenient for Google map users. I actually wonder how many reviews here are authored by those who did not make it to the table. The idea of plant based diet is accessibility, well not here.
Mikolaj P — Google review
Ok. Never been to a Michelin restaurant before (not really into fancy-pancy places with small dishes). Took the wife here for her birthday. Woah! Friendly service, not fancy-pancy at all, and the food… Wowzzers. Taaasty… I thought it might be a bit bland (as it’s all veggie based) but it packs a punch. In total, we had 12 dishes and were blown away by them all. Does it fill you up … yes! Are some dishes a bit salty… maybe. Are they all presented in a way where you get to meet each chef… certainly. This is one experience we’ll never forget and maybe never do again.
Chris W — Google review
(i keep editing the review to make it as fair as I can but the overall experience just left a sad aftertaste) First let's get to the good things. I appreciate the casual atmosphere at the restaurant. Usually fancy restaurants are super pretentious. This one is just perfect. The wait staff were courteous and explained each dish to us in a fun way (and also caught on to the fact that I just got my Ph.D. and hence the extra pie, which was delicious, seen in the pictures). So, 9/10 on that front. The most important bit was of course the food. This is where I felt very confused. The restaurant has 2 Michelin stars and was recently touted "the best vegetarian restaurant in the world". I had super high expectations. I could see that a lot of effort was put into making the dishes and the combinations were unique. The reduced sunflower root tasted very nice. The use of nuts as substitutes for milk and other ingredients to create pâtés and other components was very cool. Unfortunately none of the 9 courses really stood out. When it came to taste, I mostly "had to go looking" for subtleties that could make me go 'mmm'. The first impression was always something like "earthy". Additionally, two of the courses were plainly saltier than expected. For e.g., i could barely taste the miso through all the salt. The drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) were nice and complemented some of the dishes well but it all lacked that "oomph" which I expect at such a highly regarded place. I feel bad saying all this but this was the most lacklustre experience I have had at a Michelin-starred restaurant (and this is my first 2-star experience). Maybe the flavour profile is just not for me, but to counter that point I should add that I have tried highly-rated (m-star / m-guidebook / best 50) restaurants in France, Italy, US, India, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and I always found at least a few dishes at each venue which completely blew my mind. Maybe it was just a bad day there (200+ euros worth though). However, even if it got better, just given the flavour profiles, knowing at least one cuisine intimately which produces excellent vegetarian food - Indian food - I am absolutely baffled that someone decided to give out the title "the best vegetarian restaurant in the world" this easily :(

Bistro Flores is a place where craftsmanship and simplicity blend together, offering unique vegetable dishes alongside exceptional fish or meat. The restaurant provides an experience, especially if you secure a spot in the lush patio with a sliding roof and fireplace for year-round enjoyment. Inspired by seasons and local produce, the cuisine at Bistro Flores is described as a tasteful culinary journey featuring eccentric dishes.
Amazing experience! Great food and tasting experience! Vegan charcuterie is outstanding!! We really appreciated the history behind the restaurant, the ingredients sustainably supplied and also the service that is caring and ready to suggest what's best for your experience. Strongly recommend!
Silvia C — Google review
I tried to spontaneously go to another restaurant on a Friday evening and when i got there they told me they were booked out months in advance but "why don't you try Flores"? I called Flores with no expectations, they'd just opened for the day and i spoke to the owner, a very kind gentleman that told me they'd be able to find me a seat at the kitchen bar and to go ahead and come over. When i walked in, out of the corner of my eye i spotted the Michelin green star. I was going for a quick bite but oooh, things are changing now! I was greeted by the owner who i spoke to on the phone, a super friendly silver haired man, showed me a couple of choices and i sat down at the very corner of the kitchen bar, out of everyone's way, in a comfortable bar stool with a little candle, directly looking into part of the kitchen. Watching the chefs cooking and plating all night was like watching ballet. Plus i had a preview of what was to come. The owner told me they have a set menu, to choose how many courses and to choose wine or house made juice. I selected six courses and juice, I was asked about dietary restrictions, told them gluten and dairy free and the experience commenced. Three and a half hour meal where every dish is your favorite until the next one arrives. The dishes were thoroughly explained by the excellent staff who spoke great English. If the Michelin distinction was not already a hint you quickly understand that everything is fresh, locally sourced, sustainably farmed and they use every edible part of an ingredient. The juices were all home made, extremely but refreshingly unexpected - made of flowers, baked hay, fermented carrot peels, sage, camomile, strawberry, rhubarb, buckwheat, smoke, tomato, sweet potato, Douglas fir, I mean absolute brilliant insanity. The dishes kept on coming and they each had some exquisite twist. The charcuterie of dried and fermented vegetables - amazing. The textures, the flavors.. I already love beets and carrots but they served them to me three different ways and i just sat there in disbelief of how amazing they tasted. Even something as simple as a gluten free bread roll with a flaky salt and oil made of onion peels served as an appetizer was a triumph. A hazelnut cream with a base of three kinds of green beans/peas topped with local fruit, edible flowers and delicate herbs with a dairy free sauce was like eating spring, i don't know how else to describe it. I thought that was my favorite, but then the crawfish came, i could have eaten an entire bowl of it. For sure that was going to be my favorite, i thought, but then the chicken came. Juicy, sauced to perfection, with a patch of crispy sweet skin. That's the highlight of the night, right? Wrong! The ice cream nestled in crispy black currant leaves with juniper was like a punch in the face but in the best way. A flavor explosion that just put an exclamation point on the evening. And all that for a very affordable price allowing me to leave a big tip as well. A little piece of delicious sugar cone came with the bill. Here's the bottom line. Incredible experience. The food is inventive, planned, prepared and plated to perfection, the drinks are surprising and flavorful without being sugary. Rich adventurous flavors, interesting textures, unexpected combinations and drink pairings. Locally grown, sustainably sourced, incredibly delicious. The service is absolutely stellar, they all seem to love working there. The owner is a lovely person. The pacing is great, the amount of food is perfect. The entire experience was more than fantastic. I hope to return some day and find they now have 3 Michelin stars. They surely deserve them. Well done, Flores, well done!

An absolute must when in Nijmegen! We came for a day trip with a friend & got recommendations from my cousin who lives nearby. Restaurant itself has a laid back but chique vibe, staff is professional, attentive & friendly. A big plus was that they at all times kept my dietary restrictions on top of their minds. Food was beautifully presented, all very tasty & we enjoyed it immensely. Last but not least - I bake my own sourdough & so am often disappointed by the quality of bread in restaurants, especially when they are fine dining establishments. Not here - sourdough from Flores trumps my own, so kudos 🙂. Thank you giving us a lovely dining experience in your restaurant.
Pavla B — Google review
Amazing restaurant to visit if you are in Nijmegen! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes they serve (I don't speak Dutch and all the information was provided to me in English, which was very helpful!!) We had the pleasure of having Elroy, owner of Flores, come to our table and chat with us about wines and the history of the restaurant. We even went to the cellar!! We had a wonderful evening, with excellent company!!! If you go there, you should try the wilde gans (Wild goose), the charcuterie and the dessert!! 🧡
Ashelén T — Google review
Incredible and unique food showcased in the chef’s menu. The wine pairings were also equally as delicious (and quite nicely sized pours). The service was top-notch and the environment is beautiful both inside and out. A very special place and i would highly recommend visiting if looking for a Michelin-level gastronomic experience.
CJ W — Google review
A gift from a friend, the meal was generally enjoyable, with the grilled vegetables and steak standing out. The service was good. However, the ambiance was marred by the excessive noise from other people. Additionally, several dishes/ juices were overly dominated by a single ingredient, resulting in an unbalanced flavor profile.
Shiyi L — Google review
We had a great experience with the 5 menu course. We asked for a supplement of the Cote d beouf and we had one of the best steaks that we ever had. We had a dry aged maturated meat for 9 weeks. It’s not fair to point only one dish out of the menu but the Albergine was definitely standing out at the end of the night. The staff is extremely friendly and the ambience is unique and cozy.
Kamila S — Google review
It was an excellent dining experience. All the plates in the 5 course menu were thought out individually and the combination they created together was perfect. It was a show worth experiencing that so many different products came together to create such a beautiful union. Service and ambiance were top notch. The approach of the service staff was both friendly and professional. The variety of wine and the knowledge of the staff were extraordinary.

Very warm welcome in this old and beautiful house next to the parking and museum. We took the 4 courses lunch and accompanying wines and enjoyed the fantastic christmas decoration. Excellent food and wines, highly competently explained. Cuisine and service at its best!

Run, don’t walk here. Got lucky enough to score a last-minute reservation and I am forever grateful. The interior is a perfect combination of cozy and modern-chic. The service is top-notch and above all, the food is exquisite. Every dish was filled with so much flavor. We chose the 6-course meal, along with the wine-pairing and we could not have been happier. If you’re able to score a reservation, I wouldn’t miss a beat—easily the best restaurant in Nijmegen and certainly Michelin-level quality.

Tati is a beloved restaurant in Nijmegen-Oost, known for its retro look and vibrant interior. The menu is filled with vegan dishes, offering options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner such as smoked mushroom tacos. The cozy atmosphere of Tati reflects a homely feel that complements the 100% vegan kitchen.
A lovely restaurant with delicious plant-based recipes. From the interior to the menu (let alone the friendliness of the team), everything in this restaurant is worth visiting. We came for a late lunch and had delicious Pita falafel and (vegan) smoked salmon salad with warm drinks. The vegan smoked salmon was simply stunning. The place also seems to have delicious desserts. I highly recommend coming with friends to be able to try as many items as possible on the menu. You will not be disappointed!

Delicious high tea! We loved the soup and egg salad. The Vegan salmon was a little too fishy for us, but that's personal taste:) Some of the desserts (rocky road) were a little too sweet, but very impressed with the beautiful cakes that they make! Great portions/price for what you get!

A really good place to have vegetarian food with lot of option and tasty! They really know how to cook the vegan style! Even I am not a vegatarian, but I do enjoy the food! The patat (fries) was sooo good! Kruimig - Dutch said! The falafel was also supertasty! Fresh from the oven, the vibes was also good, we sat at their terrace, was so sunny and cozy! I wish I have this place in Almere 😘 but yea .. worth it to drive to Nijmegen to visit this place!

If you're on the hunt for a culinary adventure, look no further than Bistrobar Bankoh in Nijmegen. This vibrant eatery is a feast for the senses, showcasing an array of Asian-inspired dishes that are as visually stunning as they are delicious. From Indian to Chinese and Thai to Indonesian flavors, each plate is crafted with care and creativity, making it a paradise for food lovers. The menu features everything from mild to spicy options, ensuring there's something for everyone.
I was invited to a dinner and only enjoyed the service and food and atmosphere. Great service. About the food, really nothing to say, just exquisite. Don't know exactly what I've had, but definitely something to remember.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with some of the negative reviews (especially the dog food part). The place is visually appealing, but the food leaves much to be desired. The dishes were at best average, and the loempia was the weakest dish I have ever tried. On the plus side, the drinks were good, but I go to a restaurant primarily for the food, not just for drinks.
LTE - — Google review
Had a wonderful evening at Bankoh! It's not the cheapest place in the city, but it's original and the food is great! We especially enjoyed the dumpling starters and the steak tartare, salmon and lamb for our main course. For dessert we had the black rice pudding with pandan icecream and mango coulis, which was amazing! The soft shell crab was a little bit meh, but that was the only small letdown of the evening. The people working there were very attentive and professional. They knew when they had to come by your table, not too early or late. Starters are around €7,50 each (3 dumplings) and main courses are €11 each. At the end of the evening our bill was a little under €150 (2 people) but we left satisfied and without any room left for latenight snacks. Normally dar outside my budget, it helps if your dad picks up the check ;) Definitely a place I would recommend if you're looking for something different in Nijmegen!

I liked this place! We arrived without a reservation so it was a bit tricky to find a spot but at the end we were located in the back of the terrace with a beautiful view of the Waal; It took 15 minutes for them to finally attend us but the wait was worthy! The plates were amazing! The mix of flavours and ingredients made the experience unique and rich for the senses. I recommend it for a romantic date, but also for an important family dinner or just a birthday celebration 🎈.

Brasserie
Restaurant
Brasserie ’t Zotte Lemke, a delightful addition to Nijmegen since its opening in January 2019, is a must-visit not just for its delectable offerings but also for the charm of its historic 14th-century building. This cozy eatery specializes in French and Burgundian cuisine, featuring an array of dishes that cater to both meat lovers and vegetarians alike. The menu is refreshingly straightforward yet diverse enough to satisfy various palates.
Ambiance is set by the location as well as by the staff enjoying and sharing their passion for food and serving in an informal setting. We liked it. The food was delicious balanced portions so you can try to the max. They had selections of fitting wine and bears. Make a reservation and enjoy!

What a gorgeous spot! My first visit was just perfect, the atmosphere, the food, the staff - everything was just lovely. Can’t remember having this much beef for a single meal but I have zero regrets. We had carpaccio to start - with a bunch of toppings. The beef itself was so good I wished there was less on top cause it was pretty distracting but the whole thing tasted great anyway. We had two different cuts of beef to share, both were extremely tasty. Our medium rare was on the rare side but again - no complaints, it tasted incredible. They both came with simple sides of veggies and some fries. I asked for some mustard for my fries (don’t hate until you try it) and was given one of the best mustards I’ve ever tried. The staff were so lovely and simply hilarious, I’d go back for the laughs. It added to the great experience. Can’t recommend it enough, I want to be back as soon as possible!

Great bistro, awesome ambiance, very rustic and reminiscent of the middle ages. Good value for money, superb food, very friendly hosts and a splendid wine list. They even have their own beer, the "Zotte", which is delicious. My recommendation is the platters they make! They make it worth your while.

Nestled in the heart of Nijmegen, Nibbles is a charming eatery that invites you to indulge in a delightful array of small dishes perfect for sharing. With its Mediterranean-inspired menu that spans from Spain to Egypt, diners can explore an exciting selection of flavors, whether opting for their own choices or indulging in Nibbles' curated recommendations. The restaurant boasts a beautifully decorated interior and a lovely outdoor terrace where you can bask in the sun while savoring your meal.
Amazing place! Extra points for the gluten-free bread option! The food was delicious, with high-quality ingredients and a very reasonable price. Service was great, too!
A K — Google review
Tapas-style restaurant with a varied menu with a lot of delicious dishes! Enough vegetarian options. In summer there a nice outdoor seating area where you can enjoy their different beers and wines. Only downside is the unability for reservations when you are with fewer than 6 people, meaning waiting times up to an hour on busy nights.
Daniel C — Google review
I must say, I expected a little bit more looking at all these reviews. Didn’t expect too much I have to admit, so we thought let’s just try it! This restaurant gives vibes of a beginner home chef that opened a restaurant one day. Everything on the menu was just basic. If you put “Carpaccio” as a main dish on the menu, something went completely wrong.. Prices are way quite high while the food is very basic, nothing complex. Just a few shrimps in a garlic oil marinade for 12 euros? Such a shame! Service was quite ok though, but the food just lacks too much, it’s a no-go for me.
Lex O — Google review
The concept is different - ordering multiple smaller plates instead of committing to a single dish. Makes it easier to try something new! We were early on a Wednesday night. So it wasn't too busy - fine for us. Staff was easy- going. Food was very good. Plenty vegetarian options as well!
Theo V — Google review
Amazing quality food with Gluten-Free and Vegetarian options. Quick, polite and efficient service would highly recommend!

Visited yesterday. Low serving quantity, and even lower food quality. First round of dishes was burned. Second raw and bitter. I would recommend this experience only if your goal is to end up confused and hungry after dinner.
Tea T — Google review
An interesting menu with different cuisines, but each dish is made with attention to detail. A very satisfying sunny afternoon on their terrace, the rose is delicious too.
Sindy L — Google review
Great lunch, limited but good beer selection and certainly worth of a stop over for lunch. The only one draw back is that their teras is rather close to a garbage drop off point so when sitting outside make sure you are closer to the main street as the back can be a bit less pleasant to eat at.

Cafe Klein is a modern French bistro located in the heart of Nijmegen, offering a refined culinary experience with delightful drinks, tasty snacks, and exquisite dinners. The menu, crafted in collaboration with expert Dutch suppliers, ensures traceable and seasonal ingredients for an authentic taste sensation. Visitors are welcomed into a nice, modern yet warm-feeling restaurant that combines Berlin and French influences.
Cafe Klein is one of the most refined and complete dining experience one can have. Every single dish is awe-inducing, with an unforgettable taste profile. The staff and the environment is far from pretentious, yet gives you a feeling of luxury and care. The menu is ever-changing, adding excitement to every visit to have this incredible evening.

We chose the fish and meat menus, which included five dishes. Overall, the food was tasty and of good quality. The wine was excellent. It was a bit pricey, but considering the quality, it was acceptable. The only downside was the interior design, which didn’t quite match the vibe of a high-end restaurant. The bistro napkins were worn out and had holes, and one section of the restaurant floor looked completely different from the rest. A more cohesive and thoughtful design could really be the cherry on top. The staff were friendly, and overall, we had a great experience. Recommended

Very delicious experience. Definitely we will go there again and again. We would say this is “must visit” restaurant of Nijmegen. Every dish we ordered was well balanced and delicious. We were surprised by different tastes and flavours. We feel that the team of this restaurant is doing perfect job. Cozy place, rich choice of dishes, interesting tastes, the menu is often updated, rich wine menu, including ORANGE wines and including wines from JURA. 👍 Sesame ice cream was great! Thanks!

Positively surprised by this little gem in Nijmegen. The food is delicious and above all creative in terms of ingredients and combinations. We especially liked the raw sea bream with strawberry and rhubarb, as well as the excellent pate dish. In summary: atmosphere is great, price quality very solid and food creative. Must visit!

Nestled in the vibrant Langehezelstraat, Cafe de Blonde Pater is a beloved gem in Nijmegen that has been delighting locals for decades. This bustling café is renowned for its consistently excellent coffee and delicious food, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely lunch or breakfast. Whether you're soaking up the sun on their terrace or cozying up under heaters during chilly days, you can savor their unique dishes while watching the lively atmosphere of Houtstraat unfold around you.
They say that where there's a crowd, there's something valuable or important. Following that same rule of thumb, we decided to sit down for lunch. The place pleasantly surprised us. The service was quick and efficient, and the food was hearty and tasty. A very good team of workers, service, and quality.
Vahe M — Google review
Great city cafe, food is fine but feels a bit conveyer belt, as in well done by run of the mill. Which can be expected given the size of the cafe, it’s quite big. As is there menu, which tells you how the cafe We had the soups and various sandwiches as well as coffee. The latter was better than expected as it came from a machine. Prices were okay and the staff was very lovely—if you’re looking for a good bite the blond monk is a fine choice (no monks spotted however, we did see lots of blondes)

A great cafe, that I actually recommend it. It has a variety of different beverages and deserts. Also you have to try the burger! It was the best I have ever tried. The cafe was so huge and it had many tables. The decoration was also very modern and beautiful… The staff was so friendly and polite. I suggest you this cafe without any doubt!

We went here two times on our weekendtrip in Nijmegen, because the lunch was that good. It's nice big portions and the sandwiches are delicious. Service was really quick. Even though it was busy we barely had to wait. Bathrooms were clean.

Very good experience. We loved the sandwiches. I asked for a gluten free sandwich, and I had exactly the one I wanted from the menu with gluten free bread. Very tasty. The home made ginger beer was delicious. The waiter ms were very kind. Thanks.
Hassiba B — Google review
Unfortunately, I am forced to leave a negative review. Over the past year, the quality of the salads here has deteriorated drastically. I came here for lunch with my mom. A year ago, I used to order salads here – the portions were large and filling, and the ingredients were fresh. This time, however, we were served an almost empty plate. I am attaching a photo from a year ago as proof – back then, the salad was truly worth the money. Now, there is simply no point in expecting good food here. I would also like to note the terrible quality of the ingredients. In the “Sydney” salad, the tomatoes were supposed to be sun-dried, but instead, they tasted stale and sour. When we asked for the bill, the waiter asked if everything was tasty. I showed him the old photo and asked why the portions had become so small. In response, I received only a standard sweet smile and an inappropriate joke about portion sizes. I would like to point out that this type of “communication” with guests is completely unacceptable. I expected a clear explanation of the situation, not an attempt to brush it off with jokes.
Kateryna N — Google review
A very cozy place with a nice atmosphere in the heart of the old city of Nijmengen. The cappuccino is delicious and not only is the ‘no-meat bruschetta’ good looking, but surprisingly tasty as well! The ginger lemonade and the strawberry spice one are two of the homemade lemonades the coffee place offers, which have an authentic flavour; the only thing that didn’t quite suit our taste was that they were a little bit too sweet and it would be nice if the beverages were served with straws. :) The interior of the café is so pretty and welcoming, alongside the friendly staff. However, the service was slightly slower for such a calm and not busy time of the day. The overall experience is positive, enjoyable and memorable!
Katerina D — Google review
The food was delicious. It was my first time here but I will surely return. I ordered the American Pancakes and they were done quickly. The taste was very balanced as the chocolate they use is dark. The combination of the chocolate with the banana reminded me a lot of those delicious chocolate banana candies. The Latte Macchiato was very good too. The service was great, everyone was friendly. Great atmosphere too, the music was really nice. It's also the perfect place to people watch. I highly recommend a visit.

The quality of the dishes was adequate but trying a little too hard to be more than it was. But my main reason for this review was that everything took WAY too long (3,5 hours to serve 2 dishes). I ended up just cancelling my last dish because I was done waiting.

In de Kazerne is a charming restaurant located in an old barracks complex, offering a cozy family living room with a dedicated play area for children. The menu features honest, organic, and locally sourced ingredients, catering to both adults and children. Whether it's for a casual drink, breakfast, lunch or dinner, this child-friendly restaurant provides a welcoming atmosphere throughout the week from 11:00 am onwards.
Beautiful place, from the outside and the inside. High ceilings, spacious, beautiful interior. The food was good! Really good. I had the fish salad, different types of fish on a bed of salad. My friend had the mashed avocado on bread. He was also happy. It is not cheap. The only minus was that I prefer my ginger tea grated instead of sliced. The waiter didn't even want to make the effort to ask to get it done. Other than that, I would certainly recommend it.

Stopped in for lunch with two friends while in Nijmegen. One of my friends is 85 years old and she remembers when this used to be part of the military. They have done an outstanding job, renovating the space into a restaurant while still keeping much of the original atmosphere. The service and the food were quite excellent. The avocado toast with carrots and eggplants were to die for… Served with a very nice balsamic reduction and goat cheese. My other friend had the fillet American hamburger which was quite excellent as well. Free underground parking was an added touch that I much appreciated.

Good food, good service. One of the best restaurants in Nijmegen to sit outside to have a meal on a cool sunny day, because of the spacious field. I love what they do to entertain kids by putting out huge chess pieces or toy cars on some days; and when it gets dark, they put up beautiful light bulbs that make a cozy atmosphere. The building has an interesting history. Inside tables are also very nice. A great place for meals and drinks, for families and colleagues alike.

totally disappointed..i wanted to make a gift for my wife for her birthday (48) years..i called..reservation for 4 people and we agreed on the phone 2 times called to agree..we stayed that we would come eat and drink something, and in the end an apple pie with stars and 48 years, what I received instead of a pie was a jar of ice and a star in it, 2 hamburgers one of which had no taste at all, fried potatoes with no taste, the Heineken beer which I only drink, was another beer in a glass, I think they chose something cheaper..bad taste I left more than half there, pizza..I won't even say it, I think it was frozen, raw, and since it was salami I counted 3 pieces of salami covered with an enormous amount of greenery, no taste..i asked for coca cola, i got pepsi,..totally disappointed in the celebration of your 48th birthday wife.. we definitely won't come there again..from my side I don't recommend it.

Food wasn't fresh. Service didn't even exist. Order hadn't been taken correctly, twice. We spent more than 30 minutes waiting per dish ordered. Serving the dishes with the correct timing so we could eat together was not even a topic. The price was decent. The servers were untrained and rude. Several mistakes were made and acknowledged, but they kept using the word 'busy'. Also, using fresh ingredients isn't always necessary, but customers do generally like fresh bread. I don't like this place.
Liesbeth ( — Google review
Came for lunch. 21euro for a fake meat hamburger?... not much to choose from since half of the lunch menu is vegetarian stuff (guessing this is a way to look cool these days). Lunch menu is the standard Dutch pricy and just average food, filled with sandwiches and salads, but with few options for most as described above. Been for breakfast as well. Just alright and pricy. Hoping dinner is better than lunch. Service was good enough. Fine to drink and "snack" outside. Don't see the value for the money here. Not coming back.

Restaurant Witlof in Nijmegen is a culinary gem that has recently earned a Michelin star, and it’s easy to see why. This innovative eatery embraces sustainability by offering a fixed menu of 3 to 6 courses that changes daily, ensuring each visit brings something new and exciting. Whether you're looking for an elaborate lunch or an intimate dinner, this restaurant provides the perfect setting with stunning views of the Waal River.
What a marvelous evening. What runs like a well-oiled machine exemplifies some of the best of culinary experiences I’ve ever had—if not the best of Nijmegen. From the charming vibes upon entering, to the personal, yet professional service, the entire experience oozes of top-notch restaurants. Each dish was unique and delicious, surprising and delighting the senses through the night. We opted for the wine pairing and each one matched perfectly with the variety of dishes. We had a “surprise” 5 course menu, so we can’t wait to come back again and be surprised. Again, one of, if not THE best of restaurants in Nijmegen.
CJ W — Google review
Restaurant Witlof boasts a fantastic location with beautiful river views. The interior is clean and elegantly designed, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Service was friendly but never intrusive, which we appreciated. We opted for the surprise five-course meal, which started with an amuse-bouche: mushroom bitterballen with chive mayonnaise. Neither of us typically enjoys these ingredients—I'm not a fan of mayonnaise, and my partner isn't particularly fond of mushrooms—but this dish won us over. The first course was celeriac with apples and a sour cherry sauce. Celeriac isn’t something we usually order, which is exactly why we enjoy surprise menus. It ended up being a delightful dish, especially with the tartness of the cherry sauce. Next, we had a duo of broths served in charming tea cups—one fish-based and the other chicken-based. Both were tasty and well-balanced. The third course was hoisin pork with pak choy and mushrooms. While it was well-prepared, it felt like the least exciting dish of the meal. The hoisin sauce was quite mild, and I tend to prefer restaurant dishes that feel beyond my own cooking abilities—this one, I could envision making at home. The fourth course, however, was the standout. It featured perfectly cooked chicken—both leg and breast—with the leg stuffed with a flavorful mushroom filling. The sauce (which I, unfortunately, don’t recall) tied everything together beautifully. The dish was moist, elegant, and downright delicious. For dessert, we had a choice between cheese or a sweet option, and we both went for the sweet. It was an absolute hit: blood orange sorbet with fresh passionfruit, pineapple, and green apple, accompanied by crispy fried filo. Light, refreshing, and the perfect way to end the meal. We’d love to return, especially since the restaurant changes its menu weekly based on what’s in season. The pricing was also reasonable—160 euros for two five-course meals, a glass of wine, water, and bread. Definitely recommend!
Tracy B — Google review

I would say "in one word: amazing" but that would be an understatement! Eating here wasn't just going out for diner. It was a journey of flavours. I don't think I've ever had anything close to being this delicious! What made the experience of dining here even better was the hospitality of the owners and staff. They were as kind as possible and willing to do anything to make your evening the best possible. Since we had planned a day trip, we called to reconfirm the booking. Unfortunately, we were told the restaurant would be closed around shortly after the requested time. The food was nice, and a good wine selection. It’s very crowded inside, however, and our table felt very much in the way of servers as they prepared bread and drinks. As a result, we found it difficult to relax and enjoy our meal, and left quickly after finishing our food. I think one or two tables could and should be removed to give guests a bit more room and to not make the wait staff feel overbearing. It’s not nice to have the conversations of the wait staff and other tables being so distracting.

Unfortunately, the atmosphere took a turn for the worse when we had to wait a full 75 minutes for our main course. Not only us, but also the table behind us experienced the same problem. The terrace was only three-quarters full, and there were plenty of staff. After a long wait, we decided to inquire with the kitchen. They told us that our main course had simply been forgotten, but "would be made immediately." This didn't seem like a suitable solution for such a long wait. The way this was handled was also disappointing. A simple apology, followed by shouts from the kitchen to a colleague, "and on we go," and that was the end of the matter. There was no genuine empathy for the inconvenience. There was a lot of potential in this evening, but due to the long wait and the very poor service, we unfortunately look back on a disappointing visit. It's a shame that more guests have experienced this lately.

I visited Biessels CAFE with my friends after dinner. The weather was chilly, so I wanted a hot beverage at this trendy establishment. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. I noticed many students studying and doing their homework there, creating a cozy ambiance. Additionally, its strategic location near the train station made it convenient to access. Biessels CAFE is a delightful traditional Dutch cafe with a diverse menu.
Really nice cafe. Delicious food- beautiful surroundings and a very friendly staff. The food was nice and fresh and the mock tails was really amazing! Our warmest recommendations!

A very nice traditional Dutch caffe. Very friendly staff with an interesting variety of food. I had the pulled chicken, carpaccio and the famous sweet potato fries with the special truffle mayo. I would totally recommend. Every time i visit this place never fails to amaze me.

Delicious, nice menu, fast service and friendly people. They managed good with full terrace. Gave me wrong beer at first, but with so many clients that wasn’t a problem for me. Would come back.
Aksinia A — Google review
The ribs served to me here were insultingly bad, and I feel like staff knew the dish was not of sufficient quality to serve. They were astonishingly dry, and tasted like the meat had gone bad. I ate one rib and it was so bad I was a bit confused, so I stupidly tried one more and it was impossible to finish it without gagging. After delivering this meal staff unsurprisingly never checked back to ask how the meal was. Eventually I asked for the check, which was brought to me without ever inquiring about the food or why I didn't touch a whole rack of ribs. I've eaten at a lot of restaurants all around the world, but so far this was one of the most blatantly bad dishes I've ever been served anywhere.

Me and my friends had a very good time here! We had a lot of questions and Job tried to answer to all !!! The food was good and because we had a problem with the cooking, it was medium rare but we wanted well done ,they changed it although we didn't tell them from the time we ordered.Perfect service! We will come again for sure!!!!

very good service, impeccable service, very nice food and I was surprised with Job who knows his job, he was happy and willing throughout our stay there to serve us in the best way. congratulations on your staff

Lack-luster café where you'll be tested for your patience (even when there's lots of staff on floor and it's not that busy). Sincerity was unavailable from our waiter unfortunately. If employees don't enjoy their job, don't use them to tend to customers..

De Dromaai is an exceptional establishment with a remarkable team and outstanding service. The quality of their dishes is unparalleled, offering excellent value for money. Furthermore, the presentation of the food is aesthetically pleasing, and their desserts are incredibly tasty. The restaurant goes above and beyond by proactively addressing allergies within groups and taking extra precautions to ensure safety through separate dish deliveries. It provides a delightful dining experience for all patrons, thanks to its friendly and accommodating staff.
This place is the best restaurant in town!!! We had 3 portions of spare ribs course and 1 portion of mix grill course, 3 tap beers 0,5L and 1 Coca Cola and the total bill was 87e. Each cent was worth it! Food was extremely delicious and portions were huge! Staff was so nice and friendly and they could speak English well. Highly recommending this restaurant!
Jovana P — Google review
Excellent staff, excellent service, great value for money dishes, which were also pretty, and the desserts were delicious! They called in advance to discuss the allergies for our group and they did a lot of effort to be safe, e.g. separate bringing of the dishes. We had a great night out with the ladies - thanks to the super friendly staff and the tasty food. Thank you very much!

Food is decent for a fitting price. Nothing that will change your world forever but definitly a place to have a nice evening with friends. Cocktail was well mixed!

Great place, great food, great price and friendly staff!
Simon — Google review
This a nice place where you can eat good for a relatively cheap price. They have a menu which takes account for your dietary wishes. It is possible to get a reduction when it is coupled with a Vue ticket, the neighbouring cinema. The atmosphere is cosy and colourful.

I had never been here before but I was surprised! The food was tasty and portions were nice for the price. The servers were also friendly and kind, and I believe the owners are also on hand. He had Hare sate with fries, I had the steak and fries, and we were also served salads with our meals. I was pleased they also served sauces with our courses and those were also delicious. The food is really worth the price. We also splurged and got the Oreo cheesecake which was awesome! On a side note, the only downside to our night (outside of the staff's control which I understand) was a group of very loud people behind us with the woman being obnoxiously loud and saying some pretty ignorant things about people with disabilities. That put a huge damper on our evening. I didn't want to bother the staff about it, free speech and all that, but still disheartening to hear such ignorant sentiments from a city which is supposed to be tolerant. I would definitely recommend this spot, and want to come here again.

Nestled along the scenic Waalkade in Nijmegen, WERF Bar & Diner is a delightful spot perfect for lunch, dinner, or simply unwinding with drinks. This charming venue prides itself on creating a welcoming atmosphere for all guests. With a spacious terrace that offers stunning views of the Waal River, patrons can bask in the sun during warmer months. On cooler days, the cozy conservatory provides an equally beautiful setting to enjoy your meal while soaking in the picturesque surroundings.
Far beyond my expectations! I had the 3 courses menu for dinner. They have over average portion. Every dish is delicious and carefully prepared. I am particularly surprised by the steak, which tastes to be aged steak. The staff are also very sweet. Overall, the quality worths more than the price.

Good food, decent serving. Picanha carpaccio was quite nice. Speculoos cheesecake was also good but too small ;) Vegetarian options included Gratinated salsify, Pumpkin curry, Poached pear (which was great, not too sweet). Overall, recommended.
Nick — Google review
Ridiculous prices, food have no taste just place is in the spicy souse, overdue food that the kitchen staff doesn’t know how to prepare it, really big minus for this restaurant, you need to work with prices and stuff has no English Menu, they gave us some old printed paper we was not able even to see what we are ordering.

Great price/quality experience, nice atmosphere and very friendly staff! Definitely recommended Also a great Terrace when the weather is good!

Yesterday I visited Werf and ordered nachos. Unfortunately, after that I felt very unwell, the symptoms were similar to food poisoning. I can't say with 100% certainty that the reason was in the dish, but it was the only meal that day. I would like the establishment to check the freshness of the products and compliance with sanitary standards. Until yesterday , the place left a pleasant impression, but now I have concerns….
Annie — Google review
Drinks (beer and wine) were nice. Food though... In the picture below you can see the ceviche I have ordered. As you can see, the presentation attempts to hide a rather empty plate. Looking at the bright side, I was happy the portion wasn't bigger than that as the fish wasn't good (and not fresh).

Café Opera is a well-regarded establishment located on Koningstraat at Koningsplein, making it one of the coziest spots in Nijmegen. The café offers a vibrant atmosphere with plenty of activities to enjoy. It's known for its central location and delicious food, including favorites like hamburgers, falafel, and risotto. The friendly waitstaff and accommodating chef add to the overall positive experience.
Cosy spot in the Koningsplein to have a beer and some snacks. During the winter they also put some heaters outside so that you can sit in the terrace. The service is good and friendly. I always like to meet here to catch-up with friends over drinks!

Wouldn’t recommend for more than a drink. Risotto with shrimps AND turkish sausage already raised some flags but I gave it a try. It had nothing to do with a risotto. It was some unsalted rice with melted cheese and 5 shrimps( not entirely cleaned either). Completely tasteless. We also had some Nachos libre Opera style… I thought nachos couldn’t be bad but I was wrong. Apart from that, service was good and atmosphere was also nice.

Luljeta A — Google review
I got rudely shoved by a staff member during a music event today. I was standing outside with my friends because I couldn't handle people shoving me around inside the café to see the band, and one of the male staff servers with long hair tied into a ponytail shoved me against my friend way harder than necessary to get me out of the way, while everyone else around us agreed that there was more than enough space for him to walk without having to bump anyone to the side. No apology or even a single look back.. but hey! At least he mumbled a lame "excuse me" before rudely pushing me into my poor friend. So all is good, right? Right? But whatever, I hope the money I spent here contributes to a boxing class where he'll be able to release this pent up aggression. Sounds alot better than shoving random customers who weren't even in the way, am I right? Anyway go here if you want, the guy's probably great when he's not shoving people for no reason.

Cafe Opera is the place to be. The definition of a good bar. Really good quality when it comes to food and drinks and also, really warm, welcoming and helpful staff. The prices are where they should be and everything is topped with good music.

Café St Anneke, located on the corner of St. Annastraat and Fransestraat in Nijmegen, is a popular spot known for its inviting atmosphere and bustling terrace. The café offers sustainable heat pillows for outdoor seating during colder days, making it a cozy choice year-round. With a wide selection of wines and beers, it's an ideal place to enjoy a casual meal or drinks with friends.
This place isn't for solo guest. It's perfect for families and friends, but if you're traveling alone do not come here.

Went for the first international pub quiz, which had no price on advertisement but given I see the 'normal' one is 3.5 euros, lets consider that. Got 3 Trappists beers and paid a total of 43 euros. How is this possible? Trappist beer is around 5 euros normally, but in Cafe St. Anneke, *the prices are not written on the menu* and then this was the bill (no receipt given either!)...

Great Cafe in Nijmegen. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They tried really hard to help us English speakers understand the menue and helped with some great suggestions. The food and drinks were all tasty. We were there for an early supper (6ish). The beer was cold, and the food came quick! Would definitely recommend it if you're visiting Nijmegen and want to eat off the tourist path.
