Gastropub

Bistro
The Crown is a gastropub located in the heart of Hastings Old Town, offering a warm and welcoming environment with a mix of locals and visitors. The pub features an imaginative menu that includes small dishes like homemade fish finger sandwiches and larger sustainable options such as roast fillet of pollock. The food is sourced from local producers, ensuring fresh and high-quality ingredients. Additionally, the pub offers craft beer, European wines, and specialist spirits to complement the dining experience.
Visit here during the Easter term break. The young waiter at this restaurant was exceptionally kind and very friendly towards children. When taking an order, he made a special effort to kneel down and speak directly to the child, attentively listening to their request. During a casual chat, he shared that he was born in this city and loves it deeply, which is why he returned here after graduating from university to live. You can truly feel his passion for this place. Not only is the food at this restaurant delicious, but the people here are just as wonderful.
Young Y — Google review
Came here because I walked past exploring the area while visiting for the day and could smell the food being prepared was instantly drawn to the pub. It was starting to get busy and most tables were booked but I was able to grab a space and enjoy a really good fish finger sandwich. Didn’t take long to come out, the chips were banging, the sandwich it self was one of the best fish finger sandwiches I’ve had! The tomato sauce was delicious and I found out it was homemade, tasted like a tomato soup (in my opinion). Good service, lovely people who work here and the atmosphere of the people here a good time. Definitely come if you’re heading to Hastings or if you’ve live here and looking for something new.

It was a decent pub chosen at random as we were visiting Hastings. The food was good, with food choices & served hot once ready to our tables. The staff were very attentive and polite throughout our meal there and it was a real enjoyable evening for us.
Kevan G — Google review
Wonderfully situated pub near the start of All Saint's St. The food options here are excellent with a range of options for anyone. The service is very friendly. We went for the bacon chop option which was a superbly elevated take on gammon and eggs and was truly delicious. There were great seafood options and plenty of other things to choose from. They take card payments and food service is at the time of writing 12-4pm and 5-9pm. Thank you for an excellent time when we visited.
Andrew D — Google review
We had a lovely time at The Crown, served by charming and responsible Hugo. We had the coley and the ham with a side of garlic focaccia, none of which left us disappointed. Great selection of drinks with a friendly and convivial atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for good food, a refreshing drink and fantastic service.
May M — Google review
If you are visiting Hastings, you have to go to The Crown. During our day out in Hastings, We found this cozy pub just a short walk from the beach, and we really enjoyed the food. We went for the Roast Fillet of Coley with crisp potatoes, paired with Rothaus beer—the food was exquisite. Although we didn’t booked in advance, we were able to find a table. This is a comfortable spot with great food and atmosphere, highly recommended.
Sara O — Google review
A great, quiet and cozy pub in one of the most charming streets in the old town in Hastings. We came for a few drinks but decided to stay for dinner. My main was Honey glazed smoked bacon chop, fried eggs, chips, brown sauce, and my dessert was Pevensey Blue cheese, treacle tart, ginger prune compote. The food was amazing. The bacon chop was a delicious new take on an old time pub classic. The food was full of flavour and and I did not even need to look at the salt and pepper shakers at all. I would advice booking a table ahead for summer time dinners. The pub hosts different events throughout the year, and they had an interesting selection of beers available.
Marek M — Google review
Very friendly gastro-pub near the historic High Street of Hastings. Many beers to choose from, and a better than average pub menu. Tables inside and outside. Quite a lot of local reading material in the window recesses too. Pub is famous for the huge Crown 👑 above the entrance door.

Pub
The Royal is a charming bottle shop in St Leonards, East Sussex, founded by James Hickson and Gina Hewitt. With over 300 wines mainly from Europe, the shop offers a cozy spot by the window for customers to enjoy their selection. The owners also organize wine tasting nights for an informal exploration of different wines. Opposite St Leonards Warrior Square station stands The Royal, a grand Victorian pub with stylish dark green interiors filled with plants.
Lovely lunch experience at the Royal! The oxtail with mashed potato was so comforting and perfect for a gloomy day in the seaside. Never skip dessert for me so I ordered panna cotta! It didn’t disappoint and was so good! Really like the casual dining atmosphere as well. Quality food with reasonable price! Plan to go back for dinner and Sunday roast soon.
Jenny X — Google review
The service was friendly and welcoming, which set a nice tone for the evening. The broccoli cavatelli, however, was mediocre at best—bland and lacking depth. In contrast, the lamb was excellent—tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, though it could’ve been served a bit warmer. The space is quite cramped, so keep that in mind if you're looking for a more comfortable or private setting. Overall, it was a good experience with solid value for money.
Jan K — Google review
Where to begin… we were amazed!! My partner and I came in recently looking for a quiet dinner, initially it looked like a normal pub with your typical pub decor. However, we were met with a really pleasant server, Christian, who walked us through to the restaurant. As we sat down, the vibe of the place changed. It was quiet yet welcoming, with unique pictures of various plants on the walls. I looked at the menu and didn’t understand half of the words, but every question we had was swiftly answered by Christian, he really knew his stuff. My partner and I love to share food, so in total we ordered 6 dishes, as they come, and loved every single one. What stood out to me was how fresh the Squid with Orzo dish was and my partner loved the Lamb with what we felt was a fun Greek twist. The beetroot starter with capers, we thought was inspired and delicious. We finished with a cheese taster and a Chocolate Tart with Sour Cherries and Crème Fraîche which balanced each other perfectly. We thought this would cost an arm and a leg but we were shocked when the bill came in extremely reasonable. Christian was also very sweet with our son who loves to throw his toys about, so thank you for your patience. Overall, fantastic experience, well done. Thank you for an enjoyable evening! Tl;dr Great service, great food, great atmosphere. Must visit.
Millie X — Google review
Really delicious meal this evening - yummy cauliflower and almond soup, guinea fowl and chestnut pie (served for two) and orange polenta cake. Glass of wine - £43 total. Shame bread not included with soup . A bit mean really … however all in all really good value and it was all properly cooked.
Andrew W — Google review
Atmosphere and service was lovely! Pub was delightful and had quick service, had a few beautifully poured pints in there. But sadly the food which was the main reason we were there did not live up to the hype for us. I got the grey mullet with ratte potatoes which while presented beautifully was criminally under seasoned. A friend got the pork chop with lentils which was overdone and dry. Would try again as I can see the potential of this team
Christopher — Google review
For the prices they charge I would have expected much better both in terms of quality of food and service available. The Royal is positioning themselves as a premium (£20+ for a main) restaurant but unfortunately does offer the service to match. If you are visiting St Leonards I would recommend trying one of the many other restaurants which offer much better value for money and a much friendlier service. Having visited twice now we won't be visiting again.

Loved our experience here! Everything was perfect - portions were very generous and good value for money x
Izzie H — Google review
From the booking to our visit it was a kind experience, as well as a culinary pleasure. We were a group with different needs and not particularly easy ones, and our server as well as the person who responded to my email and questions, were nothing but kind, discret and humane. I was very touched by this. Thankyou. The food was beautiful and “soigné” and we were very happy to find two vegetarian dishes that were as complete as a meat based proposition.

First In Last Out (FILO) is a charming pub located in the heart of Hastings, offering a traditional interior with wooden benches and a central fireplace. The cozy atmosphere includes sleepy dogs, board games, and smiling staff. Unlike typical pubs, FILO serves home-brewed ales, CAMRA-approved suds, and an Indian thali menu. The culinary haven offers elevated British pub classics and gourmet dishes that showcase the chefs' passion for quality ingredients.
I liked FILO so much - I picked FILO randomly on the day I was visiting Hastings and had Sunday roast lunch there. The stuff was so friendly, warm and welcoming. I was accommodated well even I didn’t have the booking on a busy Sunday. The food (Sunday roast) was very tasty and OMG, the toffee pudding dessert 🍮! Do me a favor - you have to try it! It was served warm with all the sweet delightness! If you like to feel the local old town vibe, enjoy a lovely meal and hospitality in Hastings. This is a great place to go! 🪵🔥🍺🍷🍮🍽️🍖🤎

The staff at this restaurant were incredibly friendly. We arrived around 5 PM and learned that food wasn't available yet, but they warmly welcomed us to wait until 6 PM to order. Since our children were a bit tired and hungry from walking, the staff thoughtfully introduced various snacks and drinks to them, helping them find their favorites. Dinner was excellent—the food quality was outstanding! 👍🏻 Other customers were also very kind and friendly toward the children, creating a truly welcoming atmosphere. This meal was the perfect way to conclude our day's journey.

Definitely a favourite in Hastings, huge advantage is if you love real ale, these guys make it themselves just up the road. They usually have 4 of their own ales on hand pump. The food is absolutely fantastic too, with a regularly changing menu and also food theme nights. At the time of writing it's Thai on Mondays and Thali on Thursdays. Food service is 12-3pm and 6-9pm and they take card payments. We opted for pan fried sea bass on a bed of crushed potatoes in a lemon caper sauce and a lovely fish pie. This was followed by an excellent sticky toffee pudding. Highly recommend booking for evening dinner as it gets very busy, but that's just because it's so good!

Went for a group lunch on a Saturday. Very nice atmosphere, fire was on. Had the salt beef sandwich! Was well put together, reminded me of a brick lane Biegel. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Thank you. 🙏 🙌

One of the very best pubs in Hastings. Top notch food, ale options, great atmosphere and service. Sunday roast to die for. If you haven't visited you're missing out!
Frederick L — Google review
The staff here were extremely friendly and helpful. We went there two nights in a row and they remembered what we drank the night before. I had a couple of tasty pints of Harvey's and my mates had some other local beers. Overall, FILO is a great example of a traditional English pub.

A warm welcome from the staff and a very well presented Sunday roast. I will definitely go back to try Aoythip’s Thai cuisine. The journey back was well worth it. Aoythip and Pat cooking skills are the stuff off legions

Excellent Saturday lunch. The mushroom and spinach parpadelle was delicious and fresh. Pie of the day was divine and my daughter enjoyed the burger which had lots of added tasty touches. Listen to the locals at the bar was very entertaining and the staff were warm and friendly. I highly recommend this pub. Great food at reasonable prices

Best Thai food I've had outside of Thailand. I had the mango salad and tofu massaman. Both absolutely delicious. Lovely staff and perfect setting. I went on a quiet Tuesday evening but I'm sure when it's busy it only adds to the experience.
Alice S — Google review
The food was delicious and the service from the waitresses was genuinely lovely. However, I was quite surprised when the bill came to £70 for two people. We only drank water, and the only upgrade was choosing prawns over the standard meat option. While the experience was enjoyable, the price felt quite steep considering the location and setting
Isabel G — Google review
Authentic Thai food with a warm & welcoming atmosphere. Recommend the Chicken Satay & Massaman Beef; both fall apart tender, you can taste the time and effort put in for sure! So easy to walk past this little gem of a place with so much character. Had a young waiter on his first day and he did a wonderful job! Maybe only thing missing was some quiet music to play in the background, but other then that, A*! (cash only)
Chris C — Google review
Absolutely incredible food in an incredibly quirky setting. Food was fresh and service was quick. Staff were friendly and welcoming. I'm a fussy eater and don't like spicy food so loved that I could choose how hot I wanted my meal, from mild, medium, hot or Thai hot. Couldn't fault a thing!
Jamie-Lee H — Google review
everything was excellent! service was top, portions are huge and delicious! wish I have to space in my stomach…
Krystyna C — Google review
What a great little place. Feels a bit like a hidden gem despite it being on the main stretch. The best thai food i’ve had outside of Thailand. Was lovely to chat to the owners too at the end, what a fantastic experience they have created!
Rebecca B — Google review
Not a cafe but calls itself one, what's the point in having so many books and being a restaurant, who reads while eating dinner? Also the staff were so odd and seemed terrified of the chef, really strange vibes. Also they charge extra for things like ice and each lemon slice, and generally are more expensive than standard for the area

Excellent value menu and more likely than Wetherspoons. Food of a good standard, wide range of drinks and friendly staff. In the centre of Hastings new town near the beach and shops.

We went for lunch as a family of 6 during half term. The kids eat for £1 off the kids' menu and there's also a '2 meals for £10.99' menu, so it made it affordable for us all. The kids meals include 4 steps - a meat/veg option, potato/veg option, beans/veg option and a dessert. Drinks do increase what you spend significantly - we spent £24 on drinks alone! Service was quick and efficient. Food was fresh and portions were generous - we all really liked our meals and pretty much finished everything. Upstairs toilets were clean. Avoid the downstairs accessible toilet if possible. Worth it for lunch if you're in town with kids.
Claire M — Google review
The food is extremely good and even better considering the value for money. Drinks, great selection and cheap. Excellent deals available all day every day. Staff are helpful, polite and friendly. The decor and state of repair let's the place down. However, considering how busy the place is and how varied it's use, it could be excused.

Food was great, service wasn't that good as others go served before us after they ordered after us, atmosphere was terrible due to a family with a small child screaming the place down and parents were doing nothing about it, my family and I were tempted to leave and we would of if we hadn't been waiting for a meals and had already paid! Pub
The Dolphin Inn, situated in Hastings Old Town, is a beloved British pub known for its live music events and traditional pub dishes like fish and chips. The establishment, which dates back to the late 18th century, has received recognition from CAMRA for its excellent selection of ales and beers. The bar takes pride in offering a wide variety of drinks, particularly focusing on real ales and craft beers, often sourced from local breweries.
We had lunch in this nice pub after returning to Old Town Hastings from our East Hill walk and it was a very pleasant and soothing experience. The food (we had the haddock fish and chips as the special of the day) and it was delicious and fresh (we are near the sea, you can feel it), with one the ales available at that time. The staff was welcoming and friendly. There were tables outside but all were already unavailable when we arrived (sunny bank holiday). Thanks for the experience.

This was the first pub I came to after walking down from the car park at Hastings Country Park. And I'm glad I stopped here. My food was good ( cod and chips) the Guinness was nice. And the staff were decent. I would recommend
Dave L — Google review
Lovely little pub to pop in for a bit of lunch. As you can see I had the fish and chips, what was nice is you had a choice of 2 different fish to choose from (can’t remember what one I choose, but it wasn’t cod) now I would say that I’m not really a fan of fish, but when in Rome and all that lol But I would have to say it was lovely and very reasonably priced, the alcoholic beverage that I had was like anywhere else in the country, but also wasn’t over priced. Had a lovely chat with a couple of the staff and they were lovely and friendly, the atmosphere was great, your welcomed as if your a local. Would I definitely go back there if I’m back down in Hastings “Yes I would” Also for me it was a great place to sit outside the front of the pub with a drink and watch the world go by. I lovely pub run by lovely people.

Lovely pub in Hastings Old Town near the famous black net shops. Very busy when we went in on a Saturday lunch time but we found a table and enjoyed the atmosphere. Very friendly. Excellent Harvey's Best Bitter. Food was very good too. Nice fish pie.

Really great fish’n chips. Fish super tender, juicy and fresh. Great special offer on monday evenings - duper large portion for a pretty decent price (13,50€) including a drink. Really enjoyed the place.
Philipp N — Google review
The Dolphin Inn is one of the better traditional pubs along the Hastings promenade, located on the other side of the street in the harbour area (or what's left of it) and its famous Fishermen's Net Huts. The "large selection of real ales", as it says on the marquee outside, amounted to four cask ales on tap during my visit. The pub is very cozy and "colorful", with plenty of memorabilia and traditional tools connected to local fishing spread throughout. There's also a small outside seating area where you can relax if the wind is not too strong on the day. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, plenty of local punters about. Good for a pub lunch after a visit to the harbour area or Hastings Contemporary or the Fishermen's Museum, all of which are very close by. Civil prices, too.

Beside the that we were first clients in the day we visited, they still managed to forget about our mac and cheese, took them a bit long, but wr all make mistakes, the pub has a great feeling inside,a bit small, but nicely taken care of.

Additionally, visitors can enjoy beer, wine, and cocktails while taking in the stunning sea views.
Wonderful place with seating up on the promenade and on a beach terrace. Can’t talk about the food, as we didn’t order any. But what we saw on other tables looked just great. We were there for some drinks only. Great atmosphere with a great selection of music being played. Will definitely be back.

Amazing find. Great food limited menu done well. Perfect for breakfast and brunch. Bacon, egg and hash brown in a bap which according to my daughter was 'bussin''. Friendly staff and sprawling tables lots of seating. Service was quick and efficient, yet laid back. Love the music too reggae/folky.

We were recommended this spot by so many people, and they didn't disappoint. We bought the katsu curry chippies, and my word was it loaded!! I liked that they didn't just add the sauce to the top, it was layered throughout. We also bought a pasty which had fish, potato and leeks but what made it taste fab was the Indian style seasoning! I've never had that combo, so hats off to the chef. I also appreciate that they advocate for social causes. If I ever return to St Leonard's, this will be my first pit spot! Thank you guys.

You can't really tell driving past but it's like a mini food court, with main food and coffee ordering, amazing ice creams (and Vegan sorbet) separate but lots of seating (in the sun/shade, indoor/outdoor). Plus a fresh seafood stall (SEPARATE business but complimentary to the fresh plaice burgers, crab topped fries from Goat Ledge).
Matt K — Google review
Lovely to sit on the beach veranda, listen to the waves, and music whilst eating crab chips with a beer. Superb place. Will return soon 👍
Samantha K — Google review
Not sure it was worth the hype tbh. Had a tofu gluten free burger which was great and a frozen spicy marg which was very small in a small plastic cup with one of those claggy paper straws. Cost £22. Thought the drink was very priced. Burger was quite pricey for what it was. Outdoor seating good for a hot day but otherwise you are fighting the elements.

Really great place for dinner, with the food so tasty we tucked in before taking any photos. But from the bread to start, through to dessert was a treat for the tastebuds. We had a large plate, two small plates and a side to share between two of us and each was TV. fantastic. Even just a bowl of cabbage was so wonderfully done. The staff are super lovely and given it was my friends birthday they were wonderful in treating us. Booking in advance for busy times is required, which shows just how great this place is. Highly recommended

I don’t normally leave reviews but we had the most lovely time & meal at Farmyard today, we had a Sunday roast, beautifully cooked & want to thank head chef Elliot for a delicious starter, meal & sweet treat to finish off. We were so very well looked after by all staff. I would highly recommend this little gem, thank you so much xxxx

Nibbles very yummy, lovely bread, nuts and charcuterie. Mains not so great, steak too rare and pork flavourless. Front of house staff seem to have no idea what they are doing but the kitchen staff are great. Really liked the interior and overall vibe. Sadly was overcharged

The most delicious selection of small plates - every one a winner - for an amazingly good value Monday lunch deal. Lovely bread, great house wine and excellent service. Highly recommended

This small hole in the wall, was a beautiful evening all round! 1) book ahead to ensure a table as it was absolutely packed and back to back covers! 2) the atmosphere was lovely very intimate despite being so busy, the decorations inside are lovely and the walls are lined with wine which you can drink and buy! 3) the restaurant is dog friendly so let them know ahead of time and they will make sure you have a table appropriate for your pooches! 4) the food... We tried a bit of each section of the menu and it was all delicious, each dish totally unique and packed with flavour! We had an array of vegetarian, meat and seafood dishes and each one was delicious! We ordered a saussicon platter and some oysters to start and those were so fresh and perfectly balanced. The small plates we ordered 4 and each was a lovely little experience, from fully shelled prawns with their gorgeous sauce, some ceviche that had so much punch we both felt it for hours!! Also my boyfriend said the chips were the best he's ever eaten and we used them to soak up all the sauces across the different dishes! After our 6-7 dishes we were stuffed! Will definitely go back again and would love more people to experience this menu! Really affordable too for you to make sure you get full for your budget! Thanks for the Amazon dinner guys!

Very nice evening at farmyard. Staff managed to fit us in at short notice after we rang. We had oysters, followed by cougette fritters (with creamed cheese) and two specials - lamb belly with truffle potatoes and a seafood (quid & prawns) dish with olives and padron peppers. Lots of wine options, very attentive staff, a great date spot!

Visitors can enjoy real ales and no-frills grub in the quaint courtyard while taking in the rich heritage and old-world charm of this historic location.
Didn't mark the food as didn't have it. Pub caught are eye straight away. Sticks out like a saw thumb. Looks amazing. Friendly helpful staff and right in the middle of old town. Would love to visit again. Spent a good few hours sat outside people watching.

Nice pub on George St. Very pleasant staff which helped us pick out some good pints. The menu looked delish with reasonably priced including appetizers. This pub gets very busy during the weekends. So arrive early and enjoy!

It's an amazing pub with great atmosphere, old-school vibe. Staff is very nice, friendly and helpful. Food was fresh delicious and I can highly recommend. I will definitely come back to this place in my next visit in Hastings.

Wonderful little pub on a very trendy George street in Hastings Old Town. The 15th century architecture of this building is something to be marveled upon, truly! There is a good choice of beers on tap with a quite generous selection of bottled drinks as well. Swift and polite service, an absolute must see/visit for those who love old buildings and historical architecture. Pints were fresh and cold, well worth recommending.

Cocktails sat in the sun, watching the world pass. Beautiful and ancient buildings. We didn’t eat but the food looked really good. Staff were really friendly and brought our drinks out the front for us. Recommend

A very British atmosphere inside, loved it. The fish and chips was deliciousss, the lasagna is also worth to try, it is definitely bigger than regular lasagna portions.

The building is old, but it's only been a pub for a few decades. Don't be fooled if you go in the front door and think it's small. The main bar (with a bigger selection of beers) is upstairs. We came on a Saturday evening. It's a lively pub, but there was plenty of turnover, so we got seats after a few minutes.

This JD Wetherspoon’s is a popular and economical pub in Hastings. With large plants in the windows and leather banquettes, it’s a great spot to relax after a busy day. The drinks menu features a wide selection of beers, wines, and cocktails, as well as healthy food options for those who want to stay on their diet. You can also catch some live sports on the big TVs throughout the pub.
I love wetherspoons pizza and had pepperoni pizza in many different wetherspoons pubs. This one didn't even looked like pepperoni because sausage was under cheese. Dough was completely undercooked and inedible. Well i was starving so i eat all cheese and pepperoni. 😅 Wine was delicious. 😁

Had the freedom breakfast here on Saturday morning and it was poor. Bacon & beans were cold & the fried egg yolks were hard. Staff were really lovely and polite when they served us. They didn't ask how our food was though. Maybe they already knew. Pub is in a good location 5 minutes from Hastings seafront. It has loads of seating and an interesting history. Nowhere near as good as the Bexhill Wetherspoons. Should have eaten there.

Nice location not to far from beach and in the town. Large building with loads of seating areas indoors and out but very busy with people mostly drinking only a few people ordering food but food still took a while to come out, chips and onion rings was nice but burger was very over grilled with all 4 patty's being a bit burnt but was okays not greatest burger IV had from weatherspoons but just ate and left as didn't want spend anymore time in there as it was very busy with people getting drunk and very loud you couldn't hear each other and a guy few tables over kept trying to start fights with everyone and security didn't seem to intervene.

I love this place. we visited with friends on a glorious sunny days the location was also perfect. Attentive and knowledgeable staff. food was delicious and we appreciated the attention to detail. Excellent wine list too. I'd been before but my guests hadn't and they were delighted. Thank you.

Outstanding in every way. A milestone birthday dinner on a one off weekend with my sisters that was absolutely perfect. We loved everything about it - the welcome, the food, the wine, the ambience and all the care and attention given to making it memorable. I’d seriously consider making the four hour round trip to go back! Thank you so much
M — Google review
I’ve been here 3 times in the past 3 months and I live in California! First I must compliment the owner for hiring really great staff who are so friendly and attentive. The owner herself has such a passion for what she is doing and has recommended such delicious wines to go with our dinner choices. The food is outstanding, menu changes frequently but just wow! Each and every visit has been a wow. Last night I had smoked haddock and cod croquette, homemade spaghetti with meatballs, smoked salmon and a Mediterranean plate with dips and pita. They have a wonderful selection of wines and sherries. Will be back on my next visit!
Maria L — Google review
The service was appalling. We waited for a long time to get our drinks order and when the owner came round to take our order, she was sarcastic and defensive rather than apologetic. We had to fight to get any attention or even the bill at the end. The staff were more attentive to another customer’s dog than to us, paying customers. We didn’t even get asked about dessert or whether we had enjoyed the food. The staff seemed to completely ignore other customers if they weren’t personal friends of theirs. Even though the food is good and the atmosphere is ok, we had a really tense and unpleasant experience - I would not recommend to anyone until this place learns basics about customer service.

Superb food wine located in a quirky seaside gallery. Great selection of charcuterie and cheeses. I particularly enjoyed the trout pate and sourdough toast which was superb. The local cider was also fantastic. I sat outodie looking out to sea which is a great way to have some food and drinks. Great service very friendly and helpful team. My table was cleaned for me as I sat down so safe for visiting during Covid19. I will be back to try everything on the menu!

An incredible traditional pub 🍻 with delicious pies made fresh every day! We devoured a steak and ale pie 🥧 and a shepherd's pie 🥧 and both were amazing! Tender meat, flaky pastry and yummy. Also our server (Scarlett) was exceptional, very quick and efficient and always polite! She was great at recommending stuff to try too! Overall a must visit if you ever find yourself in Hastings!!

Recently had a staff meal here, the staff were lovely, as was Izzy whom I communicated with re our booking. We were a large group. (17 of us!) They'd managed to sort it so we were all sat together, bit of a squeeze but we were absolutely fine with that. Our food order was taken once we'd all settled in, and food arrived promptly and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal and dessert. We all left with full bellies - the portion sizes were perfect and lovely and hot. Thank you to everyone who was working Wednesday - you were all amazing!

The Stag Inn is a charming old pub with a rich history dating back to 1647. It boasts two bars, cozy inglenook fireplaces, and a dining room. The pub is known for its intriguing ghost stories, including the haunting of a murdered Dutch sea captain in the cellar and the presence of a young girl's ghost near the fireplace. Visitors can also enjoy fantastic entertainment at this historic establishment.
What a gem of a place, tucked away from the hub bub of the main street. The garden is amazing and you could sit there all day. The food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. Great beer. If I lived closer, this would be my new local.

I’ve been coming here a couple of times a year for almost 15 years, only on Tuesdays for their folk sessions. The pub is under new management and I had a nice chat with one of the new licensees. Tonight was a bit quiet but it will be lively come mayday weekend. Only two ales on tonight (none on form…) and the folk clientele seem to be getting older by the year. Cask now £5.60. Bottles at decent price point.

This is one of Hastings's classic old pubs situated near to All Saint's Church at the end of All Saint's St. The interior is full of old wood, creaking floorboards and exterior there is a beautiful three level garden at the back with apple and pear trees and lots of seating. I've been coming here for over 15 years when on holiday in Hastings and has changed management a few times. The ale is at the pricier end being a Shepherd Naeme tenanted pub. I was super pleased the food hasn't suffered under the new management and actually has maintained the excellent standard. As a seafood lover, there are always 2 or 3 amazing options - we had the baked cod and mackerel fillet options, both were delicious and I'd highly recommend. Card is taken and evening food service begins at 6pm. There is live music on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This is a nice old town pub with very pleasant staff and a good choice of beer etc. There is a good atmosphere here plus they have bands sometimes. The food was mediocre , and not much of it , I had meatballs in a spicy sauce that wasn’t spicy at all , this was served with bread and a small salad. For £18 it was disappointing in taste and size . I had treacle tart for pudding with ice cream and once again not that tasty and a very small amount of ice cream. The choice on the menu is also very small.

Disgraceful service tonight!! I've ordered from here a few times but never had service like this before and will never eat here again!! Ordered online via their preferred method, orderyoyo app, email received at 18:21 saying order confirmed with an expected delivery of 19:04, thought this was optimistic being a Friday night, unfortunately I'd closed the order page on my phone and the app has no tracking facility. At 19:48 I called to find out how long the order would be, had to leave a call back request, which came at 19:50, the young sounding lady, was apologetic, saying it was very busy and they had problems in their kitchen, our order would be ready as soon as possible. I'm too patient for my own good, and hunger was keeping me from cancelling, as I waited until 20:42, before phoning again to complain and again, ask about the order. The lady said she would check with the kitchen and call me back, at 20:44, she called me to say our order was actually ready, but they were waiting for a delivery driver to come free, I don't know how long the order had been ready at this point, I asked to talk to a manager about some sort of compensation for the delay, now 2hrs and 25 minutes, she said she would get a manager to call me back. At 21:24, the food finally arrived in an open brown paper bag, with the food boxes inside, squashed and covered in grease, (I have photos). Unsurprisingly the food was only warm and stodgy, plus my Canadian burger which was supposed to have jack cheese on and maple bacon, was wrong, as I ended up with 2 gristly patties, topped with chicken and cheese, the bottom was soggy and greasy from sitting for so long. I don't like writing negative reviews, but I've still had no contact and feel tonight's fiasco completely justifies it. Surely if a restaurant is having problems preparing food and getting it delivered, they should suspend orders and proactively contact the people who have already placed orders! Moda I await your response, which hopefully involves a refund and an apology for ruining 3.5 hours of our Friday evening!

I've been in many pubs in uk but this must be the worst one. Ordered a plain burger for my dog, no food for me, and waited 40 mins. I was the only one ordering food, kitchen totally free. Only 3 customer in the whole pub, I can see way. Girl behind the bar, pretty, but was interested more in chatting with her "pseudo businessman" friend than actually offering a service. Burger for my dog came just as a meat, no bun. Never again...

Delicious pizza! The atmosphere and the music was perfect. It’s a great pizza/pub authentic experience, much better than the chain pizzas shops in Hastings. Has a laid-back minimalistic approach, you have your pizza served in boxes without cutlery however that was a great part of the experience too. We would definitely go back. Recommend getting the chilli sauce!

Three Faces of Del Parc is a charming tapas restaurant located in St Leonards, known for its intimate atmosphere and delectable Spanish-inspired dishes. The menu features an array of tantalizing options such as aubergine with chili and mint, Iberico jamon croquetas, and wine-soaked king prawns. The chef's menu allows diners to simply communicate any dietary requirements or allergies before being treated to a delightful tapas feast.
We've been coming to Del Parc in its different guises and locations for over 15 years now. It was the favourite restaurant to celebrate anniversaries etc of some dear departed friends as well as ours also and so it holds very special memories. When somewhere has that kind of importance in your life a visit always comes with expectations, especially now as it requires an overnight stay. We've just never been let down in all those years: the food evolves but is consistently exciting, tasty and special with a reliable old favourite dish too. The service is friendly and relaxed and the ambiance is uniquely theirs. It may not be your thing but it's always been the ambiance they've created and for us its always comforting to share the experience that they create here. We will continue to make the effort to come here for as long as they're open. This is one of those rare and unique places and we love it.

We visited with friends last week and had such a wonderful time. The food was truly out of this world, even something as simple as olives was taken to another level, with each one individually stuffed to create an explosion of flavour! We have family in Spain and visit every year, but the tortilla here was hands down the best we’ve ever had. In fact, the tapas in general were better than any we’ve tried in Spain, delicate, simple, and yet so well thought out. The chef clearly has an incredible palate for bold, punchy flavours. We loved it so much that we returned the following week with family, and it lived up to everything we had told them about our first visit. The owner is warm, welcoming, and accommodating, a true one-man band who managed food, drinks, service, and clearing tables with absolute grace, all while still finding the time to chat. This is one of the very few places in a long time that has ticked every single box for us. We’re so pleased to have discovered it. Thank you both for such an exceptional experience we can’t wait to return!

This was such a great experience! Top quality ingredients cooked with knowledge and love. It’s 1 Spanish menu, so no choice or decisions to make, created with seasonal produce, creative, comforting and so delicious. Excellent, smiling and efficient service. Congratulations to the whole team and we’re already planning our next visit!

This place just gets better! We have eaten at the three faces of delparc a few times now over the years and the food and experience it just gets better! If I had the choose my favourite part of the meal… it might be the amazing olives and cheese to start, my other half would say it was the perfectly cooked rye bay scallops. Honestly the food has always been amazing here but they seem to tweak it and the dishes are better every time (except the olives have always been outstanding) It’s not just about the food though, the music is special too, it transports you to a sunny climate so you feel like you’re on holidays somewhere that it doesn’t rain horizontally. If you haven’t been, book, if you have been before book again, it’s a real gem!
D ( — Google review
A great dining experience from start to finish. We had the best orange-stuffed olives and cheese, croquettes, amazing pork with an apple sauce, some of the best fish with a wild garlic pesto, tiger prawns, and the most incredible basque-style cheesecake. It was a really nice amount of food at a great value. Plus, a nice cocktail & wine selection, including non-alcoholic option.
Heather E — Google review
Everything was fresh and really very very VERY good. Be aware they most dishes are bit overpriced (16 gbp for four prawns..), and you don’t have the choice on what you get, so you end up around 60 / person with half bottle of wine and half a dessert.Given quality it is worth it. Meal took two hours from start to finish, so definitely for a convivial evening, not a quick (or cheap) bite.

I have been to Three Faces many times and always forget to review. The food is always excellent, the team is friendly and helpful, and the Chef’s Menu is the perfect way to spend a relaxed evening full of delicious surprises. I took my family last weekend and they loved it.

Such a great café. The food was so so delicious and the staff super nice and friendly. Every dish for lunch was the perfect portion, and we had the Guinness cake to take away as it looked (and tasted) so good. Will definitely be back!!

This has to be described as very real cafe. Staff are welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere relaxed. A good choice of food and snacks. Well worth the uphill walk from the sea front. We only had cake and coffee but would happily return to enjoy their food.

Delicious food, great service, lovely location and atmosphere. I have been here for a brunch on a Saturday morning and was really impressed with the overall experience. The food was delicious I had smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on sourdough toast and it was superb. My girlfriend had deluxe cheese on toast and it again was delicious. Great friendly service the coffee is very good quality too, with non dairy options. Good menu too with plenty of choices. Highly recommended and I can't wait to return

What a wonderful cafe. I'm sat writing this while sat eating the best piece of bakewell tart I've ever had - and yes, I used to live near Bakewell itself, and have tried the original stuff many times. The friendliest, softest-spoken man serves everyone with such charm. The place is clean, tidy, and not badly priced either (3.10 for a latte these days is pretty much a bargain). A cafe Hastings has needed for years. Go here.

Top top little bar, Massive drink choice at a really good price. Personal service which made it all the better. Never been in here before but will definitely be going in again next time I'm in town. Great decor and the best selection of drunk I've seen tonight. Top stuff well done 👏🏻

They have nice drinks here but two times now the staff have been rude to us. Once on new year's when me and some friends had bought a few rounds, left to go somewhere else then we came back to a member of staff coming up to us and saying "Are you even going to buy anything". This was followed up by more rude comments. The second time I was with a different group and we had been ordering many rounds again. I ask for some shots of something then say actually could I have shots of something else. They didn't have the drinks I asked for so they gave us something we didn't order and double the number of shots we wanted and made us pay full price. When we said we only ordered 3 shots the staff got angry at us and said no you ordered 6. This place would be really nice if some of the staff didn't have such a chip on their shoulder.

Co-founded by Ruby Boglione and Silvy Pilkington, this modern eatery offers an inviting atmosphere paired with contemporary cuisine that elevates the dining experience. Guests rave about the delicious offerings, from simple yet flavorful anchovies on toast to exquisite dishes like labneh and fish rice. The carefully curated wine selection complements the menu perfectly.
had the most beautiful mid week meal at coquina! Started with a drink on the terrace which has some of the best views of Hatings, then moved inside for tapas. The pumpkin with ricotta and hazelnut was incredible as was the salt cod salad. You could taste the thought and individual flavours that went into each dish. Our waitress was lovely and attentive too! Will definitely be returning and a great spot for summer drinks

A Hidden Gem! So glad this spot has opened in Hastings, unlike anything you can find in the area, mixing a Mediterranean tapas feel with epic, fresh English produce. The sardines were so tasty and a special shout out to the tomato’s which I wouldn’t usually rave about but wow, the flavour! Great alcohol free beers too which is always a winner for me💥 Definitely be back 🙏🏻

This is a wonderful, modern and friendly restaurant which brings much improvement and contemporary cuisine to Hastings. The food is delicious: from simple anchovies on toast to wonderful asparagus and amazing croissant ice-cream. The wine is obviously carefully selected and the choice is absolutely wonderful and spot on. This is the place to visit when out and about in Hastings. You will enjoy lovely food and magnificent view over the Hastings sea from the lovely terrace.

My friend and I visited the Hastings Contemporary Gallery for an art exhibition. We had tea at Coquina before going into the exhibition. We sat on the balcony with a wonderful view of the sea and Hastings' small fishing boats. This must be one of the best viewpoints in Hastings After the superb exhibition, Coquina provided us with an excellent lunch. The Padron peppers, home made pickles and panzanella were all freshly made with local ingredients and delicious. We washed this down with some fine French rosè. I would definitely go back.
Andrew W — Google review
best restaurant in Hastings old town..? easily the best setting, quite the best restaurant room right on the fishing port overlooking all the boats, its really beautiful, surely one of the best views along the whole South coast? But the food's the thing! Such a well-run skilful kitchen by chef Will, beautifully prepared Spanish inspired cooking; can't say enough good things about it. And great value for the quality. Go for a treat! Go every week! & keep supporting local stars.
Jersey R — Google review
What an absolute gem in Hastings! Absolutely worth a visit- you don’t need a ticket to the art gallery to go. The food itself is worth a trip. Beautiful setting with massive windows overlooking the sea, and some outdoor seating too. Really delicious grub- we had the steak sandwich (perfectly cooked and full of flavour), the chips and bravas/aioli sauces (the bravas sauce was out of this world- soo fresh and tomatoey, with a lovely gentle spice) and the cod rice (citrusy and fresh, went down a treat). Drinks were also great- we were driving so had the freshly made house lemonade. Will definitely be back next time we’re in Hastings, highly recommend
Emma C — Google review
I would argue that coquina is perhaps some of the best and most authentic Spanish tapas that you can find. Impressively, they reinvent the menu weekly and food quality is consistently of a high standard. A real hidden gem on the Hastings coast - absolutely perplexed at any negative reviews.
Max I — Google review
What a special addition to Hastings this restaurant is. Incredible views looking out to the sea, gorgeous decor, and friendly, attentive staff. And the food… authentic tapas which was vibrant and delicious. The tortilla in particular was very tasty. Everything looked fresh and complimented each beautifully. How anyone has given this place a bad review is beyond me - would recommend this place to everyone I know. Can’t wait to go back.

The best restaurant at the coast of Hastings! Had 3 meals whilst visiting the area, all were delicious, service was excellent. The roast was one of the best Sunday roasts in a pub I had ever had. A ‘basket’ lunch mid week was very good value. Finally an evening meal was lovely! Couldn’t fault anything. Shame we don’t live closer! Fabulous cherry cheesecake dessert is highly recommended.

Lovely cosy pub with a real fire. Had dinner here for the second time having enjoyed our first visit. My husbands dish was lovely. My choice however of fish and chips was not great. The fish (Pollack) was cooked okay but it was literally steamed in a jacket of very soggy and undercooked batter that was inedible ( hence the three stars)

The bar showcases local artwork and offers freshly prepared, restaurant-quality meals with seasonal inspiration. Owned by two brothers from Hastings who also run a bar in London's Shoreditch, the venue attracts a young crowd and features a tiny kitchen that serves great-value food. Visitors can expect friendly staff and unique touches like the ladies' restroom set into the rock downstairs.
While on a trip to Hastings, we were hungry so we went looking for a place where we could eat well and where dogs were welcome. Walking through the old town along George Street, we visited many bars and restaurants until we finally reached the inconspicuous Dragon Bar. Maybe at first impression it is not very exposed, but we boldly entered inside. And we already knew it was a good choice! Although there is no sign that dogs are welcome, we found a place right next to the entrance with a view of the entire bar from where we could observe the guests. After a while, I was already at the bar, the polite bartender offered drinks, I must say that everyone will find something for themselves, from a soft drink, Guinness beer, Staropramen, wines and cocktails prepared on site. The menu is not very rich, but as it turned out later, the secret of Dragon Bar is not the number of dishes. We ordered grilled bass, mushrooms on the toast, smoked salmon fishcakes and tomato and thyme soup. We waited quite a long time, but considering that we weren't the only ones waiting, we hoped it would be worth it. And it was worth it! The dishes presented in a beautiful form (it would be a pity to destroy this work) tasted amazing, truly heaven in your mouth! Mushrooms on toast were full of mushroom flavor, thyme emphasized the taste, garlic toast complemented the taste and the whole thing was delicious, a poetry of taste. Grilled bass fish served with rice and bit of trace created a tasty composition, fresh fish and ingredients ensured the unique taste of the dish. grilled salmon fishcake is real poetry not only in appearance but also in taste. I have never eaten fishcake served this way. And the tomato soup mentioned was delicious, slightly spicy and tasty, and the grilled bread with topping took the taste sensations to a different level. Finally, we had two desserts served, cinnamon apple tarte with soft cream and the second dessert was rhubarb mousse with apple, crushed meringue and biscuit. everything tasted out of this world. It was worth waiting longer than usual for such a tasty treat. There was a nice, relaxed atmosphere in the bar, the staff were friendly and served the dishes with a smile. If you are a fan of good food and a friendly, unobtrusive atmosphere, you must visit Dragon Bar! Thank you very much for your visual and taste experiences. We highly recommend Dragon Bar! Oh and one more thing, it costs much less than it looks! Truly ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Dragon Bar

Best grilled chicken Caesar salad that I have had in a long time. I’m a Frequent traveller to Hastings, I reside in Toronto. I’d highly recommended this venue - service was fantastic too and the background music was amazing.

Perfect spot on a warm summers day for a cold pint of cider, some scrumptious oysters (although somewhat smaller than I was expecting) and fabulous service. An overhead fan cooled me down and the background music was great. Would visit again to try the paella.

Had an enjoyable lunch. Eat a lot of vegi food at home but rarely out. Opted for the vegi bean stew, rich, saucy, tasty, would definitely have again. The Mrs had the Caesar salad, she liked. Beer is fine, not that great a choice tbh. The service was hapless yet sharp in a very sweet way.

Unfortunately not the best experience. Watched customers meals sit on the counter for 6 minutes before it wee given to them, thankfully ours didn’t take as long, however the food we were served wasn’t great. The pickle on(not in) the beef burger was not my favourite tasting pickle I’ve had, the bun was soggy and falling apart as well. The grilled club chicken sandwich was not grilled and was cold, the filling was just chopped chicken and lettuce which is something that should be put in a wrap not a sandwich.

My go to bar in Hastings - Dragon Bar is a rustic bar, situated in the old town of Hastings, offering a great selection of drinks and a variety of food options on the menus from small plates and large plates. Dragon Bar hip, and edgy restaurant bar, with fresh and vibrant food options. With a tiny kitchen pumping out great options on the menu it is one of the better places to have a eat out in Hastings. Or a place to relax for drinks. It is on the rather more expensive a sides for a Resturant / bar in Hastings, however we’ll worth the price point. The bar is very scenic and has a good atmosphere. It is on the more causal side , being dog friendly, and more chill service to bare that in mind if you are expected top quality service. It has friendly staff but it is a more of a sit back and relax DIY order at bar kinda vibe.

Amazing! Been there tonight for the steak night and it was just perfect from beginning to end! Lovely staff, rapid and professional. The food is delicious. Great bottle of wine, perfectly cooked steak, skin on fries, mushrooms and vine tomatoes. Extra Peppercorn sauce delish! Everything was perfect! Had also a dessert, Eton mess and a lemon tart, fresh and tasty. What an amazing dinner in an amazing place! Do no hesitate to give a try you won't regret it! We'll be back! 😍

My partner and I came here for a date night to go for their meal for 2 - Rib Eye steaksand chips on a Saturday for £35. Alicia and Siobhan made sure to make our night very tailored and catered to, and our food came out promptly and cooked exactly as per our specifications. As a local in Hastings I can easily recommend this place for an enjoyable night out for couples. The meal comes with a bottle of house wine, and chunky chips and a portobello mushroom, well cooked and seasoned. Good value for money but by far the main selling point for this venue is the customer service and catering as the staff are very attentive and caring.

Great meal at Pissarro’s in Hastings. The cocktails were really well made, and the food was spot on steak cooked just right with its own hot rock to finish yourself at the table, tasty burger, and fresh seafood starters. Service was excellent, especially Aleisha she was friendly, helpful, and just really easy to get along with. Will definitely be back.

The environment is nice and the people are very welcoming and friendly however, the food left us a little disappointed. We went to Pissarro’s after a recommendation because we were looking for new steak places in town and so we went for a ribeye. The cut was way too lean for becoming a good ribeye and on top of that it wasn’t of the greatest quality; it was probably too cold when cooked or else but it was quite chewy and ultimately not as enjoyable as we would have hoped. Don’t get me wrong, for the money it was decent but there is better around.

A one stop shop for a comfortable stay at affordable prices, a cosy bar and dining area, and some of the best food you will find in Hastings. A real local treasure with an olde England feel. I have been staying at Pissaros for over ten years now for business trips and always wake up refreshed and ready for the day after a good night’s sleep in their super rooms.

The vibrant decor instantly lifts your spirits, making it an ideal place to kick off your evening. NUR offers a distinctive dining experience that combines fabulous food with a warm and inviting ambiance.
We were greeted warmly by our welcoming host who was clearly passionate about her cuisine... and art. We loved the cheerful decor and eclectic art collection on display. A three course dinner was much enjoyed as every plate was delicious. Highly recommended 👌🏻
Penelope M — Google review
Another outstanding lunch experience at this gem of a restaurant, which stands head and shoulders above a raft of others in central Hastings. Decked with style and colour, with vibrant paintings adorning the walls, and a table decor to die for, you might expect the food to perhaps fall short, ordering from the fixed lunch menu, but this was absolutely not the case. A very moreish hummus starter was followed by a pork stew that was sublime. Complete steal at £10.50 for two courses, in such a setting you’d want to put your feet up, kick back, and sip their frothy coffee for the rest of the afternoon listening to the perfectly amplified slow jazz. Relaxed, aesthetic, super friendly and laid back, Nur boasts authentic Armenian cuisine that I imagine you could work your way through over the months and never be disappointed. My only surprise is that it’s not packed, with people hanging from the rafters, and coaches rocking up outside. It even has the feel of an art gallery. As long as Nur is here in Hastings, it will be a fixed star in my galaxy. Highly recommended.
Jonathan F — Google review
The best Armenian dining experience I've had in the UK - two vegetarians dined like queens here. Our starter was unlike any vegetarian platter we'd ever had but it all worked so well. They also had delicious Georgian Saporavi red wine to drink. Highly recommend!
Ruby N — Google review
Whilst on holiday in the area, we saw Nur when we are in Hastings. It looked nice enough for us to book to return a few evenings later on our wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed! Great food, excellent service and good atmosphere. Above all, a bonus that they are dog-friendly! Beef stroganoff I had was probably the best I have ever had, prepared in the classic way of thin strips of beef rather than lazy way using diced beef (which so many restaurants seem to do these days). Thoroughly recommended and we will be back in the future. Thank you 🙂
Brian T — Google review

F L — Google review
Mixed feelings for this place.. in my view way overpriced for what we got. I liked the cheese and garlic bread. Steak was expensive and despite being ordered as medium rare, it arrived rare. Sides weren't great either. Pasta was advertised with king prawns. I got a £12 pasta with the cheapest smallest prawns. Pasta itself was nice but menu was incorrect and I should have been told they replaced the main ingredient for a cheaper alternative. We have decided we are not going to gamble with a dessert. The decor is a different matter. I didn't fancy the attack of colours and styles but there will be others who might like it.. unnecessarily cluttered though. I will not be coming back to this place with so many alternative options around. Price was way too high for the quality of food we got.
Maya S — Google review
Very nice - loved the decor (especially the oh so comfy chairs). Menu is interesting and contains authentic Armenian dishes. We shared 2 delicious starter platters, one of which was vegetarian, which consisted of a selection of interesting salads, hummus, foccacia, ham, hot kielbasa, salami, hard boiled quail's eggs and preserved herring on rye bread. Mains were mushroom stroganoff for the 2 vegetarians, lamb shank, beef stroganoff and slow cooked lamb with Mediterranean vegetables..desserts were also sublime. Service was great, really welcoming and I can definitely recommend the Georgian red wine!

Kino-Teatr is a charming and historically rich venue that has weathered the storms of two world wars and various transformations, including a brief period as a builders' merchants. Now independently operated by art dealers, this PG-rated cinema offers an eclectic mix of entertainment beyond just films. Visitors can enjoy live flamenco shows, jazz breakfasts, spoken word events, TED-style talks, and theatrical performances in its beautifully restored Victorian library setting.
Exceptional food - all home cooked - at a surprisingly refreshing price. Friendly, funny staff - huge space full of art (bought a piece from Russell who is lovely). The best breakfast, lunch, and long candle-lit dinner in St. Leonard’s.

Great theatre. Shows alot of "Arty" type movies rather than mainstream. Which is understandable given the place is also an art gallery etc. I feel selling popcorn etc would be good ? The seats are great some sofas and chesterfield style seats.

We popped in on Saturday 12th July and the older male employee on the bar made us feel genuinely so unwelcome that I felt we had to write this review. We asked if we could order a coffee and he scoffed at us and was so hostile and passive aggressive. I cannot think what we had “done” to cause such behaviour (other than inconvenience him by walking into an empty bar) but we felt genuinely upset and puzzled by his attitude. It honestly felt personal and so unnecessary. Sad, as we were just visiting the area and a friend recommended the place and we were nearby and fancied a coffee. Would not recommend to anyone though, it really affected our mood afterwards. Coffee was fine (just made to feel like a dick for asking for one)

Great pub that was a real surprise. A time warp kind of pub that still has the grand charm & atmosphere of bygone times. Staff very polite & chatty & other guest interesting and friendly. No noisy hideous music which was also a real treat, just being able to talk & be heard. Really sadly the Landlord passed away the same evening we visited, but we hope the pub reopens again in his memory & carries on his great tradition of a unique public house. Cheers 🍻 and RIP 🙏

Really love this little bar. It has great local events and live music. My only complaint would be that the music is always just a bit too loud for comfort. Saw some live music there recently and took gig earplugs which really improved the experience!

My first visit. Pleasant place. Made to feel quite welcome, as was my dog. My cider was fine. I needed to complete some studying. Unfortunately I was refused access to WiFi. An unusual policy these days, but ultimately down to the owner. I chose to relocate because of this. Otherwise all ok.

Favourite venue in town. Lovely staff and always have a variety of events on, the Silent Disco is honestly the best night out in Hastings. They also frequently host the Diamond Photo Booth so there are always some fun (and sometimes embarrassing!) photos of your night, 10/10 would recommend
Anna L — Google review
The actual venue is not too bad, but refuse to go there any more as the door staff are the worst in town and it ruins it as a venue and puts a downer on nights out. They actively try to humiliate their potential customers, treat their right to refuse entry as a power trip and really let the place down, no other venue in town has the same attitude and pretentiousness. I understand that this comes across as a bitter review to get revenge, but in all honesty if you ask anyone who has lived in Hastings and been out for many years they will tell you the exact same thing.

Great venue came for the weekend from Brighton in order to see a particular band, never coming to this venue or town again and plowing my hard earned money into this town or venue, got thrown out as my boyfriend was supposedly staggering about drunk, yes we did have a few to drink and had a really great night, the people in there were a great bunch so you can't say we were being aggravating to anyone. Bouncers terrible attitude I'd like to see them work a club in Brighton they'd have no chance. Do not visit awful place

I still can't fathom why the owners feel justified in charging people to get in to a place which is guarded by charmless bouncers, and where you get served by charmless teenagers with more attitude than could possibly be justified. Your £5 would be better spent, as mine was on this occasion, on a burger and chips from Flames Grill next door, en route home.

I first visited almost 15 years ago. Last visit was two years ago. A great pub with diverse offerings. Price point for ales was ok, keg ridiculously expensive. They used to be a destination pub for ales. I now have a feeling it is more of a sideline. I had an American pale ale. It was not quite on form, but they keep rotating their ales so maybe next time.

Nestled in the heart of Hastings, The Carlisle is a legendary biker-friendly pub that has been a staple since the 1960s. Known for its vibrant atmosphere and free live music, particularly in genres like Rock, Metal, and Punk, this venue recently underwent renovations to accommodate larger bands. It’s not just about the music; it’s about community. Visitors often rave about the warm hospitality from staff members like Gemma and Ben, who go above and beyond to make everyone feel at home.

Our experience at The Carlisle in Hastings was not just disappointing — it was unacceptable and potentially unlawful. My friend sat on a motorcycle parked outside the pub. While we understand this may have been inappropriate, we apologised immediately. Despite this, we were treated with hostility, refused service, and told to leave. We were not even allowed to finish our drinks outside — all for a minor incident that caused no damage whatsoever. What’s far more serious is that the owner allegedly took and circulated our photo to security staff at other local venues, instructing them to blacklist us. This is a serious breach of privacy and likely a violation of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Sharing personal images without consent is illegal. We are now seeking legal advice and considering formal action against the pub owner, including submitting a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). This level of retaliation for a harmless mistake is both vindictive and unlawful. We strongly advise others to think twice before supporting a venue that disregards basic ethics and privacy rights.

Found the Carlisle when I posted on a local Hastings group in search of a Bull Terrier to cuddle, as I am on holiday from the United States and miss my dogs. Immediate reply from the wonderful Gemma inviting me to stop be anytime. Met her big lug Chopper! They invited us back to hear the live band and even saved a table for us to sit with them. Absolutely spectacular folks who made us feel like family. Gemma, Sean, Ben and all their staff are absolutely smashing.
RuthAnn W — Google review
The Carlisle is an establishment on the Hastings seafront that bills itself as a "rock'n roll pub", and for good reason: Everything about the place screams traditional old-fashioned rock, from the music playing to the slightly tatty décor to the live music stage. Had a couple of drinks there on my way to old town one night when the place was nearly deserted. Not a place for beer drinkers, there's the usual Heineken/Stella/Kronenbourg/Guinness line-up. No real ales available. I wouldn't exactly vouch for utmost hygiene here, and the bar lady was a bit worse for wear - but that only adds to the atmosphere of the place.

Marina Fountain, located in St Leonards, is a community-run pub that warmly welcomes pets and even has two pub dogs. This friendly establishment offers a varied menu with options for non-meat eaters and is particularly known for its delicious Sunday roasts. Check out this fantastic, warm and welcoming pub by the sea. Grab a seat, enjoy great food (rustic pizza is delicious), and a refreshing beer with the best landlords in St Leonards-on-Sea. Can’t rate this pub highly enough. The menu gives an excellent range for all tastes and the prices are very reasonable. We’ve had a really good experience each time we’ve dined. The Longman pale is a firm favourite of mine and I would highly recommend it. There is also a wide selection of bottled and draft beers to chose from which we have also enjoyed. The beer garden is great when the weather is good and there is also the occasional live band. We also enjoy the quiz night every other Thursday which is a great atmosphere with plenty of comedy added in.

Such welcoming, warm and friendly staff and owners. Amazing service, like we’ve never experienced before. We visited for drinks the first time, and then returned the next day for Sunday roast lunch, it was exceptional, cooked to perfection, thank you 😊 Our only disappointment is that we don’t live more locally to this little gem of a place, we would definitely be regulars if we did! We will return one day tho for definite!

Nice place overall. The atmosphere is chill and friendly, and it’s a good spot to sit down for a beer and some food. They have pretty good bottled beers and the food was tasty too. The staff were really nice and polite, which is always a plus. I liked the outdoor seating area as well, it’s a cool place to hang out when the weather’s good. Also, the location is convenient. Would come back.

Marina Fountain has great food specially Sunday Roasts. Great pub and the menu is varied with lots of choices for non meat eaters too. I visited for a Sunday roast and I would advise making a reservation as this location does get booked up. The roast beef was delicious and had lots of kale a great tasting Yorkshire pudding and a huge carrot. Plenty of gravy and the whole dish was fantastic. I also had broccoli with hazelnuts as a side and this was unbelievably good. I also tried the wild duck legs. After the mains I had rice pudding again superb. Great service, good wine menu and the location great.

Rude staff, came in with a female emergency said hi to the bar man and rushed to the toilet. When I came back out I went straight to the bar to get a snack because I am aware it’s customary to buy something if using the services. Before being allowed to order the barman then tells me that was rude and I should’ve waited for his permission like a primary school student I was clearly uncomfortable because there’s a bar full of people, he has continued. Sorry but do you expect me to bleed in my jeans, men at their finest honestly x

Tired after kayaking all day we went in at 4pm in the hope of a Sunday roast dinner. Yes they were still serving. 2 huge Unbelievable reasonably priced dinners ensued. 7 different vegetables, all the extras, lovely gravy & loads of meat. Delightful, warm & kind staff. Clean premises & a real secret goldmine of customer satisfaction to be had. Highly recommend you go there to eat - if you want a top tier Sunday roast dinner.

Second Sunday roast. Last week I had roast beef and the beef was as I like it, rouge. This week roast pork. Another excellent meal. Think I'll make a permanent Sunday booking. A roast with seven or eight fresh veg and a pint for under £20. I highly recommend this pub/eatery.

Didn't eat here. Watched two bands, Kinsella & Ruby Duff. Had a great early week evening. Loved the vibrancy of the bands/artists. Fantastic, friendly vibes. Staff are all very lovely and accommodating. This is a gem of a pub. Its the staff, the punters & performers, that make The Piper a top venue to visit. Good Vibes...get 'em here & bring 'em here.

"The Clarence" is a beloved traditional pub with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It's known for its great staff, including the familiar face of Alison who has been there for many years. The pub offers affordable prices and often features live music, making it a great spot to visit for an enjoyable time.
My favourite pub, the regular clientele can be idiots lol but that's nothing to do with the great staff, cheap drinks and great band/live music nights, especially Saturdays I wish they'd put more live music in Friday evenings and Sundays (4pm most bands sstart on Sunday)

The Clown is a small local pub which is mainly frequented by older locals from around town. It's cramped, but has cheap prices on various lagers, including a Czech beer called Staropramen. The pub seems to be quite popular with the locals, who can get quite rowdy in the evenings.
Staying away whilst working can be a little boring! But my mate and I (the two Gareth's) 'fell' into this gem of a pub whilst staying across the road! I can't speak highly enough of the staff (Tracy) and locals of this pub! I'm not going to lie, we did drink a little more than we should have, but only because we where having a great time!! We spread a little Welsh happiness, and got loads of Hastings happiness back!!! Thankyou 'the clown', can't wait to return!!

I'm down to Clown. After exploring Hastings for the Jack in the Green festival I can truly say The Clown is the best pub in town. Friendly, best Guinness jukebox and vibes all at a reasonable price. I would recommend it to anyone
Liam B — Google review
The Clown in Hastings is the very definition of a local boozer, almost exclusively frequented by older punters from around town, not tourists. It is cramped, a little worse for wear, doesn't offer Wifi nor a huge range of beers - but three cask ales, only one of which was available when I visited. That said, it's also the place to get into touch with the locals, especially in the evenings when it can get quite busy (there's not a lot of room anyway). Fairly(!) cheap prices on various lagers, including Staropramen from the Czech Republic.

The Clown is tucked around a corner and is tiny. There's no food. Its clientele skews older with the exception of some younger workers who hang around as patrons. I've visited when it's mostly quiet folks contemplating their beers and lot. I've been there with people talking as loud as possible and forming an impromptu dance floor. It's a workaday place filled with friendly workaday people. After careful research (solely for science) I've found it to be the cheapest pint around. Nice place. I'll head there should I pass that way again

Very nice pub. Could spend all afternoon here. Good drinks, good music, and a pool table. Really nice atmosphere even when there isn't many people about. Perfect bar to relax in after getting off the train from London, a simple rustic decor, with a nicely strong but not overdone theme. Well under £4 for a pint of cider too!
Christie C — Google review
A mess. Plastic glasses, untidy, hard to tell punters from bar staff, a live band playing thrash metal you'd blow yer brains out too and generally not a pleasant experience. Coming from someone who likes their punk and indie, live bands and a beer, that's saying something. Maybe I picks a bad night and I will try it again to make sure but wasn't my cuppa tonight. Remember the old days of the Golden Cross and even the more recent ones of Flairs and it was disappointing.

Yes. Very tasty burger and amazingly crispy chips. Burger comes on its own. Sides are extra. Nice corner spot to have a quick meal and watch the world go by. A bit busy because of the junction it faces but that doesn’t affect the quality of food experience.

Nice place and people seemed lovely - but - if you’re after just couple of drinks and a chat with your friend - look elsewhere. We were asked to free a small table we were at and sit on a bench at the window. Definitely understand if we were occupying large booth and /or sitting with empty glasses - both felt it was odd and inappropriate and gladly left all together. Could have been handled better - did not feel right.

Hastings Pier, originally built in 1872, underwent a major renovation and reopened in May 2016. The new design focuses on simplicity and functionality, featuring an observatory platform, restaurants, shops, and open-air event spaces. Unlike traditional piers with arcade games and gimmicky attractions, Hastings Pier offers a classy experience with its minimalist design and wooden kiosks.
Charming Coastal Town with a Cozy Vibe Hastings is such a lovely seaside town full of character and history. The Old Town is cozy and full of charm, with great little pubs and shops. The food scene is surprisingly good, and the bar(ye Olde Plumphouse) we visited was warm and welcoming—great atmosphere and delicious bites. Don’t miss the castle ruins or the funicular for stunning views. A perfect mix of history, sea, and chill vibes. Would definitely visit again!
Aswathy S — Google review
The view from the pier is lovely. Unfortunately, not much was open, and it was the hottest day of the year as of June 2025. Many of the children's rides have been removed, but you still need to buy tokens for the two that remain. Great location with not a lot going on.
S H — Google review
Hastings Pier is known for its rich heritage that dates back to 1872. We visited Hastings with the aim to spend fair amount of time in the pier and enjoy the serene flow of water hitting the coastline. The water is exquisitely clean and blue with dedicated swimming areas that have lifeguards from 10am to 6pm. There are lots of attractions surrounding the Hastings Pier.
Khandker Q — Google review
A Thursday morning in August was not a good time to visit this historic Pier. It was mostly abandoned and the best part is the view to the Hastings beaches on either side. We had been here in the 1980s when the Pier was much livelier and more impressive. Hastings Pier was built in 1872. It suffered major storm damage in 1990, and was closed to the public for a time before closing completely in 2008. 95% of the pier was destroyed by a fire in 2010. After a major rebuilding project, the pier reopened in April 2016 but has not regained its former glory.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Perfect Spot for Night Fishing — Hastings, UK Spent an amazing night fishing on the beach in Hastings — tent set up, rods in the water, and a sky full of stars. Super peaceful atmosphere, calm sea, and minimal light pollution. It’s a great spot to disconnect from the noise and just enjoy the moment. ✅ Pros: – Great for night fishing and camping – Beautiful view of the coast and city lights in the distance – Quiet and spacious area – Relaxing sea sounds all night ⚠️ Heads-up: it’s a rocky beach, so bring a mat or something soft for your tent. If you’re looking for a calm night by the sea — highly recommended!
Andrian D — Google review
I really enjoyed my visit to Hastings Pier. It’s a calm and peaceful spot with little to no noise, which makes it perfect if you're looking for a quiet place to relax or reflect. Unlike the more commercial and busier Eastbourne Pier, Hastings Pier feels more open and laid-back. It’s not as wide or crowded, but that actually worked in my favour because I wanted a quieter experience. There are places on and near the pier to grab something to eat, and the nearby beach is just a few steps away. It wasn’t overcrowded when I visited, which added to the relaxed atmosphere. The views out to sea are beautiful and the breeze is refreshing. It’s a great place to sit and just enjoy the scenery. One thing to note is that the pier is right next to a fairly busy road, so getting there can be a bit hectic. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, especially during peak times, so visitors should plan ahead or consider using public transport if possible. Overall, I had a lovely time and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a slower, quieter seaside experience.
Lemmy M — Google review
In a great location, lovely wide spacious pier with not a lot going on. Couple of places for food, drink and ice creams and some kiddies rides and that’s it. Nice view of the coastline but that’s it. Some small pop up shops that were closed.

The Royal Standard, located on the Hastings seafront, is a traditional pub owned by Shepherd Neame. It offers wood-fired pizzas, Sunday lunches, and a regular menu along with a top selection of beers and ciders. The pub has a cozy atmosphere inside and a secluded garden for finer weather. It's an ideal spot to watch the world go by from their outside picnic benches.
The food was amazing, with plenty of toppings on the pizzas and nachos at a very reasonable price. Speedy service, as soon as we ordered, the guy was out the back, firing up the wood fuelled pizza oven. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We ate in the garden, which clearly had a lot of time and effort spent on it to make look really cool. We will be visiting again.

A wonderful local pub in the heart of Hastings old town. It seems to be mainly populated by locals who know each other, but everyone is very welcoming to visitors. They have plenty of love music and, when we went there recently early on a Saturday evening, there was a game of cheese bingo. You need to go there to find out what that is.

A superb traditional pub located in the old town close to the sea front. Serving excellent local beers, lagers & a great selection of pizzas, fresh fish & salads. Music courtesy of a super collection of vinyl albums in a true analogue style, what more can you ask for. Thanks to the staff for a warm welcome & nice chat 👍

Good little pub this. My only downside was the capacity, it is a fairly small venue and there wasn't enough tables for us to sit indoors so had to make do with a bench outdoors but other than that it is a very good pub. Didn't have the widest selection of tap drinks, but it certainly had enough to keep punters happy. Other than this though, it's a very good place! Friendly staff, reasonably priced, I thoroughly recommend here if you want to just pop in for a drink.

Booked here for a lunch and it was gorgeous. We booked a table in the back room and it was really cos and quiet with a fire on. Our dog loved it. We had both types of wings, both types of dumplings and loaded fries and it was all so delicious. The portions are huge too. Wonderful hidden spot!

Walked in off the street because of the lovely aroma of Asian cuisine and glancing at the outside menu. There was excitement for some of the dishes especially as my partner is Malaysian and we miss being over there, this was a treat that did not disappoint. We ordered: Bao Chicken Buns Cereal covered Prawns and pork dumplings. The buns tasted amazing, and to be honest I have been going off of restaurant food recently due to finding most food bland. But this got my taste buds tingling again bursting with flavor and a mild spice, it really complimented the dish. The prawns had a nice cornflake/savoury/ sweet flavor which made the prawns exciting to eat as it is something that shouldn't work but does flavor wise. The pub is nice and calm we went afternoon on a Friday. The staff I felt could have been a bit more friendly and welcoming but don't let that put you off as it's only a minor gripe. Great selection of local drinks . I will be going back and do recommend this gem.

Poped in for a quick pint on route to the station. I was a bit doubtful as I seem to remember this place used to be a bit grim, but if it was, it's not anymore. Nice and cosy with a back room with a real fire. One real ale and one real cider on cask, others on keg. Didn't have food, but the Sunday roasts looked good. Most of the tables in the front were reserved, so it must be popular.

The chef came out to serve some of the food, she was very courteous and friendly and and the food for four of us was divine. We will all back soon. Keep up the great work.

Excellent roast dinner, best I've had out in a long while. Very reasonable drink prices as well, seems to be cheaper than a lot of other pubs in Hastings. Highly recommend this pub, will definitely be coming here for a roast again

Was looking for some good food yesterday 29/5/23. Saw the reviews for the Thai food. They're all spot on. It was delivered hot 15 mins earlier than told. The chicken in it was plentiful and lge chunks too, with rice I was going to make 2 meals out of it. Never happened I ate the lot it was so delicious. If the other food is that good I'm eating here again! Highly recommend. What's more I don't usually leave written reviews just stars. So whoever the chef is, don't loose them! Dave Fletcher

Brewing Brothers Courtyard, located in Hastings, is a trendy craft beer bar that caters to a young urban crowd. The establishment offers a wide variety of unique craft cask and keg beers, including some made by the company itself. The courtyard provides open seating and multiple restaurant options for patrons to enjoy their food and drinks.
We discovered this place by accident whilst walking along the seafront from St Leonard's to Hastings. Great find! Such good food (& beer/wine!). It has multiple restaurants you can order stuff from and it's open seating policy in the courtyard means that you can sit anywhere to eat. It has a lift too so we could take our buggy and toddler down into the courtyard which was great

While it’s a shame to see the pasta bar go, the renovation of the bar has created such a nice atmosphere. The cocktails are innovative and there’s always something new to try thanks to Robs creations, such as the strawberry and thyme daiquiri and the frozen margaritas. The friendly staff make all the syrups fresh and from scratch and it’s fun to watch them and ask questions while they’re cooking up their next creation. The smoking area and actual courtyard bit is sheltered from the rain so it’s nice to feel like you’re outside but protected from the weather! I would highly recommend for drinking with friends, or even a date night. If you’re passionate about cocktails and want to learn more the staff are so informative and passionate about what they do and they’ll happily teach you a few things.

Came down to Hastings for a day out, was looking for a pint and a cocktail for the girlfriend, found a great pint of local beer and a lovely frozen cocktail. Service was very attentive and friendly, and great prices for the location, right next to the sea, down a lovely courtyard. 10/10.

The sensation cocktails, coupled with a fantastic selection of locally brewed IPAs and Ales makes Brewing brothers at the Courtyard a grand day out. The staff are friendly, the venue is groovy, and the general manager is drop-dead dashing! The perfect day, or evening out.
