Nestled in the Yorkshire Dales, Tan Hill Inn is a renowned 17th-century inn that stands as the highest inn in Britain at an impressive 1732 feet above sea level. The rustic pub exudes a classic vibe with old beams, stone-flagged floors, and a grand roaring fire. It's also famous for its rich gravy and offers one of Swaledale's best beer gardens with stunning countryside views.
Excellent pub, highest in Britain as everyone knows. Good selection of beers. Very busy for food. Great motorhome park up with outside toilet and shower available 24hrs. We went on Thursday to the open Mike night. Some excellent entertainment. Lovely log fires and great ambience In a historic public house. We'll worth the journey. A big thank you to the excellent staff.
Mark S — Google review
Unfortunately, a disappointing experience. Yes, the drive up and views are incredible and the pub has a good, traditional feel. However, that's where that ends. A traditional feel to the pub doesn't mean it can't be clean - even the cobwebs have collected dust. The food is alright but everything is order and pay at the bar, so should probably be a bit cheaper than it is. This is highly inconvenient as you cannot run a bar tab even when sat eating so the staff won't top you up on drinks. As a popular spot, we were queueing for over 10 mins to get a drink whilst the food was sat at the table getting cold. There was just one young lad waiting tables. The pub was busy outside with passers-by ordering drinks but barely any tables eating when we got there, yet we got a latte with no milk, a starter with two of its four components missing and of course with only one member of staff waiting tables, we were unable to flag him down to mention these and with a 10 minute queue at the bar - not worth bothering to wait and complain! Not the waiter's fault but for a famous pub, it's obvious they are catering for the masses and not worried about the experience. Besides, you pay when you order so you won't get any money off for any screw ups when settling up at the end! A real shame, it could be fantastic all-round, not just a high up pub in a pretty spot.
S A — Google review
Gorgeous iconic pub with nice stout in a stunning location on the borders of Cumbria and Yorkshire. Great night in out of the rain by the fire with live music and numerous excellent vegan options on the menu, including pie! Would have quite happily been snowed in.

Had an absolutely fantastic night at Tan Hill, first for a meal, which was lovely, then a tribute Oasis Band at 9pm. Great service. Very remoteplace, but amazing. Pitch black outside, no light pollution for miles. Highly recommend.
Bfcuk1 — Google review
Walked directly into and through a yellow weather warning for 4 hours to get here on the Pennine Way, through the bogs on the north side. Sat by the fire drying for many hours and sewed together my bag strap. Met some wonderful folks in the pub and camped out back.
Biro C — Google review
Great staff, quick service, good food . Fab atmosphere, we ended up staying overnight in our camper van. ( Cost £10 for charity) Will definitely be going back. Amazing views too.
Andree C — Google review
Had a great night at the Inn once again. Great food and a very good selection of Ale that I had to sample. The staff are all very welcoming and we had a good night of chatting with the other patrons. We were parked up with our little camper van so wobbly walk back wasn't too far. My only suggestion, we spent way in excess of £200 on food and beer but couldn't access the outdoor toilets as we hadn't paid for the camping. Could this code be given out if you spend over a certain amount on food at the inn? Not a complaint, just a suggestion. A great night with great people, good food and beer in a brilliant location.
Martin O — Google review
The Tan Hill Inn is so much more than just a pub—it's an adventure and a destination in itself. Perched high in the Yorkshire Dales, the journey to get here is part of the fun, offering breathtaking views that make you feel like you're on top of the world. Stepping inside is like walking into a postcard. The exposed beams, stone-flagged floor, and roaring fire create an incredibly cozy and welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for escaping the everyday hustle. The food is fantastic, with hearty, delicious pub fare that's exactly what you need after a walk in the beautiful surrounding countryside. I highly recommend the pie—it's legendary for a reason!

Ripley Castle, located in North Yorkshire near Harrogate, is a 700-year-old privately owned country Baronet's seat that offers tours of the house and grounds. The castle hosts various events, including the Christmas Fair featuring top companies selling festive decorations, food, gifts, and more. Visitors can explore centuries of military, political, religious, and social history at the castle. Additionally, nearby attractions such as Richmond Castle and Fountains Abbey provide further historical and natural wonders to explore.
What an amazing place to visit. The grounds and gardens are a must to see. The deer park is a sight within itself. It's such an enchanted and beautiful place that takes you back in history. I would recommend this attraction to visit if ever in Ripley, along with grabbing yourself a taste of the world's famous ice cream. There is free parking around and it's affordable to visit.

A Glorious Day at Ripley Castle Lake – Sunshine, Stalls & Stepping Over Cow Pats! We spent a glorious Sunday at Ripley Castle Lake and it was exactly what we needed – fresh air, sunshine, and a good dose of Yorkshire charm. It was a beaming hot day, and we found parking easily in the main car park, just a short walk from the castle. Prices were surprisingly reasonable too, which is always a good start! The little village of Ripley is like something from a postcard, with a proper old-fashioned ice cream parlour (beware: the queue stretches longer than a cow’s memory) and a lovely pub with benches outside – perfect for sipping something cold while watching the world go by. The castle grounds were hosting Sunday market stalls, adding a nice touch of local flavour to the visit. It really is a sun trap – perfect for a lazy wander or just soaking it all in. The lake walk next to the castle was a highlight – peaceful, scenic, and ideal for stretching your legs. But fair warning: it’s open grazing land, so while the cows are friendly enough, their contributions to the path are less so. Think of it as a rustic obstacle course! The castle café was a lovely final stop – it has a charming walled garden area with picnic tables, where we cooled down with a drink and enjoyed a moment in the shade. All in all, it was a lovely few hours out. Beautiful surroundings, a relaxed atmosphere, and just enough cow pats to keep you on your toes. Highly recommend it if you fancy a peaceful day outdoors with a touch of historic charm!
Christian C — Google review
Had a lovely visit to the castle grounds today, young gentleman in the cafe was amazing and gave us great tips and advice on our visit, he was super friendly and highly respectful. Spent a few hours walking around the grounds then had a lovely coffee and scone in the cafe which was delicious and great value for money. Highly recommend a visit.
Lynne — Google review
Lovey place yo visit. Went on Sunday there was market. Lovely little cafe and sandwiches we got were delicious. Massive grounds to walk in with the cows and deer roaming free. Definitely recommend for nice relaxing day out.
Michelle H — Google review
Unfortunately it's closed and up for sale, however the village of Ripley is lovely! Had a great stay at the Boars Head. UPDATE: I Unfairly I gave a one star rating; I could have visited the gardens but it was the castle that I particularly wanted to see. My apologies to the owners who queried my one star rating.
Brian S — Google review
Lovely place to visit. We went on a Sunday so nothing was happening but it was still a pleasant stroll around the grounds. Parking charge was reasonable £1.80 for two hours. The cost of entry was OK as it goes towards the upkeep of the attraction.
Wes S — Google review
The castle is closed for the foreseeable future (up for sale). The gardens were closed due to high winds, which was NOT posted on the website beforehand, so we traveled to the Castle for nothing. Took a short walk to the "waterfall" which is just the outflow from the dam that created the lake on the castle ground.
John D — Google review
I had super fun time at Ripley Castle grounds. We visited the Castle for a team building activity and we really enjoyed the game competing to find the 12 Clues and answering the questions. Nothing is fun as competing with fully able-bodied while your team has an expecting woman. We had real fun and most of us left there already thinking about going back with friends or family. family. That shows the attractiveness of Ripley Castle grounds. The reason why I'm rating it 4 is because food nearby is very expensive, we ate a local Pub and it was so expensive such that I opted to water with my meal instead of a drink. The gentleman who assisted us with our games on 23/09/2025 was very helpful and fun. Much appreciation to him. We called our team the Slow Coach because we completed the challenge in 75 minutes! Overall- Ripley is worth visiting and even more enjoyable as a group.

Nestled in the heart of Skipton, The Cock & Bottle is a quintessential traditional pub that exudes warmth and charm. With its inviting stone fireplace and rustic wood-beamed ceiling, it offers a cozy atmosphere perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. This beloved local establishment prides itself on being the friendliest spot in town, consistently delivering hearty portions of classic British fare that will satisfy any appetite.
Very busy on the day we visited, the market was on but not many stalls. Dog friendly, staff very helpful and some great offers on the menu. We had chicken breast, fries, mushy peas, and peppercorn sauce, Mon to Fri 2 classic meals for £28, similar deals on the burger menu, we saw some coming out from kitchen they were massive. Good choice of ales and wine, food was tasty and generous portions, but we had to wait about 25 mins probably due to the pub being busy, but worth the wait. Massive beer garden advertised on screens in the pub but have to wait until weather improves to check out. Will visit again when next in Skipton

Had lunch here today, after walking the canal from Gargrave. Friendly welcome from staff, who made a fuss of our cocker spaniel, who then said we can sit anywhere either in beer garden or inside. We sat in beer garden to have a drink while deciding what we were going to have to eat. We found a table inside in the window where we could people watch while eating. Our food was very tasty, well presented & very reasonably priced. All staff were friendly & attentive. Definitely wouldn't hesitate in going back again.

Came in for dinner last night and the burgers were amazing!! All patties homemade and delicious. Really generous portions and reasonably priced. Waitress that looked after us was really friendly, smiley and helpful. Wish we'd got her name but thank you!!

Found this very nice pub with outside space near the canal in Skipton. We sat out in the sun and both chose ploughman's lunches. The food was excellent and good value at £30 for two. The wine was pricey at £23 but in line with most places here. Service was attentive maybe a little excessive but fine. Recommended.
Peter K — Google review
Fantastic local pub with excellent food. The outdoor seating area is very spacious for large groups, and in the colder months the inside is cozy too. Table service was quick and efficient, and food arrived about 20 minutes after ordering. There is a varied selection of gluten free options as well. Staff are friendly and polite, and the pub is clean and tidy, and not cramped or cluttered.
Andrew R — Google review
We have been coming as a couple every year for 10 years+, and constantly tell our family how good it is, so when the opportunity arose we all came, 11 of us and 2 dogs, no pre-ordering, and food was as good as always and almost all of it out together. Everyone loved it not one complaint about the food even from the great Dane
Peter M — Google review
This was our first visit, and it certainly won't be our last! The pub was full, but a table came free quite quickly, so we sat down to look at the menu. I had the Ploughman's Lunch, which was huge, my Husband had the Bavarian Bratwurst with beef chilli. The food was excellent, the staff were friendly, the service was fast and efficient. We will definitely be coming back, and would highly recommend a visit to anyone passing through Skipton.
Angela P — Google review
Called for an early evening meal on a Tuesday. Hadn't booked a table but the helpful and welcoming server asked us to take a seat and promptly came over to take our drinks orders. Good selection of classic pub grub from pies to ploughman's and some light bites. We had a burger and the fish & chips. Hearty portions and delicious! Very attentive waiting team. Although we're relatively local, we've not eaten here before but will definitely back! Highly recommended. Thank you to all at the Cock & Bottle.

Pub
The Beer Engine in Skipton may be small, but it offers a wide selection of beers and ales, making it a great place to discover new beverages. The focus here is on providing excellent drinks in a laid-back atmosphere, with occasional live music nights. Despite its compact size, this friendly micropub welcomes children and dogs inside or you can choose to sit outside on upcycled kegs.
What a little gem , tucked away down a sidewalk 30 seconds walk from the canal basin is a proper real ale pub. If you like ale you'll love it in there. I would definitely recommend this place to stop off.
Carl P — Google review
Great little pub with some fantastic beers available. I enjoyed a 3 x 1/3 selection which were delicious. Unfortunately I had to go otherwise I would have happily stayed longer to sample a few more beverages. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable in recommending drinks. Great social atmosphere and dog friendly too! Great little spot, hopefully be back for some more sampling soon!

the weather was very disappointing as it was very muddy on the Sunday 16th June
Louise W — Google review
Mortens have recently had a stall at the Ilkley Market and we weren't disappointed. The first time doing this, we didn't know what to expect in terms of how well our Hardware stall would be received (it is a food market after all) and whether it would be a worth while day, or how easy it would be to set up. Communication from Lucy Allen at Real Markets - Yorkshire was really informative with a stall map, access information, and general answers to any questions we may have had. The Sunday Market official checked in on us more than once, knowing it was our first stall, just to make sure we were ok. It was a really enjoyable day being fortunate enough to have good weather and plenty of footfall, but also just connecting with our local and visiting customers. Worth doing for anyone who hasn't tried it!
Mortens H — Google review
Fab market well organised nice relaxed atmosphere friendly people great selection of sweet treats
Anne B — Google review
Brilliant market for a potter round to sample outstanding food and drink and get some lovely food to treat yourself at home. Also some other great producers selling jewellery, art, plants, clothing etc. There;s usually a few buskers and some live music on the bandstand as well. It's just a lovely way to unwind and the vibe is really relaxed and friendly. Someone mentioned it was overpriced - it's an artisan market, not an everyday get your groceries cheap type of market and the prices reflect that. I think they're reasonable for the quality on offer. Others have mentioned there are hardly any stalls. That was true of the first few events that were held, but it rapidly expanded and now the stalls completely fill the whole of The Grove. But, there are a few stalls on the Grove on Saturdays - fruit and veg, local Indian food and so on, some of which also appear at the monthly Sunday market. Also it sometimes gets cancelled or suspended for bad weather, and at fairly short notice. That might be the source of confusion.
Richard W — Google review
Good choice of stalls with some great food offerings. Bhajis and Samosas were delicious as was the walnut bread. And then a glass of wine from Martinez at the end of the market
Pete D — Google review
I live locally but find it expensive compared to Otley.Probably higher quality though
Susan W — Google review
