Live music venue
Bar
Pub
The Cluny, situated in a former 1848 mill in Newcastle's Ouseburn Valley, is renowned as one of the top music venues in the North East. It has hosted legendary gigs and offers a unique dining experience with locally sourced meat burgers and a wide selection of local and world beers. This multifaceted establishment also houses a gallery, theater venue, and a bustling kitchen serving homemade dishes like lamb stew and sandwiches.
The Cluny is still a great pub and venue, they've been holding this spot down for decades, first visit in the last 6 months, great selection of different beers, ales, a lot of them local. Food is good modern pub grub, cooked well and not over priced. Always a solid choice.
BROON B — Google review
Busy pub, was at two of its spaces Clunny 2 and Clunny 1, full disabled access to all areas, staff were good, seating available in Clunny2 more of a standing venue in 1, but you can bring seats in from the bar, if you need to sit. Good car parking nearby.
Stan M — Google review
What an absolutely amazing place. As a first time visit it was a bit maze like if you look around C2 as well with it's staircase but what a fantastic set up! Good selection if beers on cask and keg and a lovely looking pub. Then you go round the corner through what looks like a cupboard door and you are in a little music venue with it's own small bar. Brilliant atmosphere and absolutely loads going on, pretty much something every night. Absolute shining light for real ale and the music industry. (We saw Reverend Peyton and his Big Damn Band and they were superb.)
Sean H — Google review
Nice bar with lots of drink choices. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Lots of seatting inside and out. Venue for bands is great. Decent sound and different capacity rooms available.
Molly G — Google review
Lovely little venue, up close to the performing singers/groups...
Mike M — Google review
Been here twice to see some live music. Very small gig room (can hold about 300 people) and it becomes hot very quick but still enjoyable! The drinks are on the pricier side but as to be expected. Overall good experience 🤩
Cassie A — Google review
Amazing food!!! Lovely vibes and friendly staff as well. Would recommend to anyone for a nice afternoon out.
Amy — Google review
This was a heck of a place, went to see Holy Moly and the Crackers here. Great non alcohol options, excellent vibe and a mosh pit. The staff were great, all was safe and I loved the decor, this place is seriously cool. I felt so like I was part of the ‘in’ crowd.

Pub
Located on the banks of the Tyne River in Newcastle upon Tyne, The Tyne Bar is a cozy pub offering a wide selection of ales and a vibrant atmosphere. The pub features a free jukebox, live music, and a garden sheltered by the arch of a road bridge. It's an iconic establishment in the city with picturesque views of the river. The outdoor space is popular when the sun shines, and it champions independent beer.
Great bar with a fantastic outdoor space, perfect for sunny days. There is plenty of seating and a good atmosphere. Drinks are reasonably priced, and the service is quick. Would definitely recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a chilled outdoor drinking spot. Five stars! Their house pale is always the best, but they also bring ales from local breweries. I feel like their Blue moon has a taste.
Rajasekar S — Google review
Love this place and its location. Indoors quite traditional britisk pub. Decent selection of taps including cask. Large outdoor seating area, so specially on a nice sunny day its really nice here. They do serve food here. I had a german hot dog which was quite nice.
Svein B — Google review
Food great. The one thing that I can't look past is that when it's busy they don't just let people wait at the bar in conventional fashion. We need to stop normalising single file queues (which often stretch way out of the door at busy times). Bars are designed as such that people stand along the length of it. If I want a drink I shouldn't have to leave the building.
Chris D — Google review
I was introduced to the Tyne Bar in 2018. It was good to be back! Authentic is overused but this place is genuinely the real deal. Situated between the canal and the River Tyne, almost a hidden gem, but with plenty of locals to feed the atmosphere. We sat outside with drinks and home made brownies. Highly recommended 👏👏👏
Jon O — Google review
Great place to eat and drink with a lovely view from the beer gardens. A group of us came by on Saturday and they kindly served us right away and got us fed quickly. Would definitely recommend 👌🏼
Amy K — Google review
Check out this absolute beauty of a pint! Staff are friendly and efficient. Pub is fantastic. Top drawer boozer.
Magpie H — Google review
I sat outside on a quiet early autumn afternoon in the sun. Really relaxing, with a gentle breeze. The beer is very well kept and I couldn't fault the selection. Staff were excellent. Very welcoming and helpful. Not expensive and close enough to the centre to be a pleasant walk along the river. Definitely recommend here and will be back.
Steve M — Google review
Visited Wednesday. Basking in the sun in the beer garden to the side, friendly staff. Very quick to get served as was very busy due to sunny rare days we having as of late. Cider never tasted so good. Big shout out goes to the young lass with dark hair who grafted the delivery that afternoon like a machine in the heat then offered the two delivery blokes a drink!! ☀️🍻

Live music venue
Nestled in the heart of Bigg Market, Filthy's Newcastle is a vibrant Irish-inspired bar that has earned its reputation as the Godfather of the area. With an eclectic mix of vintage posters and stags heads adorning its walls, this lively venue offers a unique atmosphere perfect for both daytime relaxation and energetic nights out. The garden area features playful fake grass, while inside you can find cozy seating arrangements ideal for enjoying a refreshing drink.
A really strange but intriguing place, multiple venues in on place, Irish bar down stairs with live music bar and lounge on the ground floor. Separate private room on upper floor. Staff friendly and very helpful and fair prices for central Newcastle location. Will definitely visit again.
CHRIS M — Google review
this place might be the most chaotic place i’ve ever step foot in. there must be about 20 sets of stairs in this place? stray from your friends to go to the loo and you’ll likely never be able to find them again. also not sure on the vibe of this place as multiple people (customers not staff) were extremely rude to me here. the staff were very nice and helpful however, they made sure i was safe and found my friends okay.
Abbi J — Google review
I actually really like this place and it would get 5 stars except it loses one for watering down or at least topping up the whiskey with random crap, had Jameson's and it tasted like half Johnny walker and half water, don't know wtf they are thinking, like topping up brandy with prosecco and hoping nobody notices. The other thing is some of the sound systems are screwed and the solution seems to be just turn it up 😂. Seriously though I hope they sort those two things out because it's a great venue with live music, just please stop f'ing with our whiskey.
Steven M — Google review
All be it a tuesday and christmas around the corner it was a little quiet nice decor been in when it is rammed so good to see the floor staff keen and quick drinks not badly priced and stayed for couple of hours then late on singer knocked some tunes made the place liven up a bit
PAUL T — Google review
I love the bands these guys get in and the variety of clientele. If you're after live music drop by after 8pm and see what's on (there are 3 stages with next doors passing clouds and downstairs the points included) staff are friendly and helpful. Big sports screen during the day. Tables and booths to sit at. I've not been much pre evening, but i think it's mostly at night this place comes alive. Can get a bit loud and rowdy occasionally but never seen any agro go down here. Toilets can be meh. Best to get a pee in before coming here 😂 My mates swear this is the place to meet people if youre single 🤷🏽‍♀️ lots of fun loving people here for sure If you're a woman on your own just enjoying the music (a rare occurrence I know 😂) stick to the tables in front of the stage/booths. Less likely to get leched on.

The Botanist Newcastle is a trendy gastropub-style venue located in Monument Mall. It offers a striking interior with a central bar featuring a tree and greenhouse herbs, creating an impressive setting for enjoying botanical cocktails. The menu features innovative dishes like pies and fish and chips, as well as delightful sharing boards. Additionally, the bar hosts live music events and offers bottomless brunch mornings with unlimited prosecco.
Monday afternoon very quiet only a few other customers at noon which was quite nice. The bar and restaurant look lovely with lots of natural light and good use of internal planting and furnishings. Staff were very attentive and professional, cannot fault at all. Food was served in good time and was absolutely delicious. Will definitely eat here again!
Gary H — Google review
A really enjoyable visit to The Botanist which is such a fun and funky place. A stunning glass dome with a huge tree in the middle of the bar and very cool decor throughout. James behind the bar made the best cocktails we have tasted for a long time and Jessie in the restaurant was a brilliant waitress. Will definitely return soon and would highly recommend it.
Rupert C — Google review
The staff were SO nice and the setting is quite dreamy. The menu looked delicious too, the only reason I give it 4* for food is because the fries were a bit too salty for my taste. I will definitely come back if I ever come back to Newcastle 🎉
Ina P — Google review
Had an amazing Brunch here with my Mom. The atmosphere was great with all the plants and light and decor, food delicious with good portion sizes, and our waitress Emily was friendly and welcoming! Would definitely recommend it!
Kara P — Google review
Sooooo beautiful inside! I couldn't stop looking around. The drinks and food were also great and creative. Staff was friendly and prices reasonable. Definitely recommend going here! (Would go here so often if I would've lived in Newcastle)
Anna K — Google review
I’ve visited many times before and had a great experience, but yesterday was so appalling I believe the kitchen should be closed until they can sort out the immense amount of issues they clearly have as a restaurant. As a table of 6 we waited over half an hour for the food order to be taken, when we asked that all food come together (two starters, six mains). The starters arrived and 45mins later no mains. We spoke to a waitress to ask - 15 mins later still no one came to our table. After having to get up and ask to see the manager, she came and in her defence we could not fault her - there were clearly operational issues and she dealt with the situation well. However, when the food finally came - mixture of Sunday roasts and hanging kebabs - it was clear there was a fundamental issue. Chicken was dry and overcooked, roast potatoes swimming in oil, veg raw but burnt (how can you even do that?!) and the vegetarian gravy was beyond disgusting. Long story short, we paid for our drinks and not the food, however in total we wasted almost three hours of our Sunday evening which was meant to be a delightful start to our holiday with friends and our daughters. I truly believe the kitchen needs to close until they can cook food suitable to eat and train their new staff effectively. All in all a terrible experience and the pressure the manager is under is not appropriate. I’d highly recommend giving it a miss until they have turned themselves around.
Laura S — Google review
If you’re looking for a instagramable place, this is it. I was there today with a colleague. Loved the atmosphere. So much varieties of drinks. Compared to the ambience, the prices of the drinks are cheap. Being a Saturday evening it wasn’t very difficult to find a place to sit. But recommend to book a table prior of it’s a weekend. Loved the drinks. Will definitely visit again.
Ganisha S — Google review
Had bottomless brunch before a show at the theatre, drinks wise it is well worth the money but does have a limited menu, food was nice just very small and again limited menu, service was really good and nice, stunning location and interior as my only photo of the tree in the middle. Definitely go for the cocktails.

Cafe
Breakfast restaurant
The Staiths Cafe is located at the historic Dunston Staiths, a significant landmark in northeast England that commemorates the region's industrial heritage. Situated along the Keelmans Way riverside footpath, it offers stunning views of the River Tyne and its iconic bridges. The cafe serves a delightful breakfast menu until 4pm, featuring hearty options like full English breakfast and omelettes.
The Staiths Café is beautifully located right on the Gateshead waterfront, offering a cosy atmosphere and lovely views of the Tyne from its outdoor terrace. The coffee here is excellent, made with a La Marzocco machine and tailored to your preferred temperature; a real treat for coffee lovers. If you are a fan of sweet treats, their lobster tail sweets are a nostalgic delight and, at just £1, the cheapest I have seen anywhere. The café used to serve an incredible pistachio brownie, which, sadly, is no longer available. Be prepared for a bit of a wait on your coffee, as the place can feel understaffed considering its size. Still, the location, ambience, and quality coffee make it worth a visit.
Tarek A — Google review
Decent, fresh salads. Fantastic tea and coffee. Would ideally like more protein for the salads to be more fulfilling, but tasty nevertheless. Plenty of gluten-free options. I did not like the gluten-free coffee cake, both the texture and taste were unpleasant, but the other food is lovely.
Em — Google review
As a local regular I was excited to hear about a new evening special - they often try new ones on Friday and Saturday nights. Their Steak night on Saturday was fantastic! The cut of steak was lean and full of flavour, cooked just as I asked for it. It came with all the trimmings. Great value for money when considering the quality of the meal, coupled with the lovely candlelit ambience and the friendly and attentive service. Will definitely be back for your next one. Well done! (no pun intended)
Stephen H — Google review
I love everything about this cafe, the vibes, service food, everything is simple, yet elegant and spot on, delicious and fresh ingredients, prices are reasonable. The team are smiling and welcoming all the time. Visited few times for breakfast and never been disappointed. Very recommended especially during a morning ride, for a well deserved break ;)

Took a lady i look after for a run out and cuppa/ cake. Service extremely slow. Only take cash if it's the exact amount as they have no float? Otherwise very pleasant staff and atmosphere. My lady was happy to see dogs are allowed. Great view of river.
Bridget F — Google review
Really disappointing food. Had a vegetarian breakfast, was not cooked properly and got burnt toast. The staff were nice about it, got me a new breakfast and offered us free coffee. However the 2nd breakfast, while was actually cooked slightly better this time, really wasn't much better. It felt like it has been rushed. It's a pity the food was disappointing, its a nice space and staff were polite, but I would not go back. The food really let's it down and there are better options in the area for food.
Aishling C — Google review
I ordered a pastrami, cheese and pickle sandwich to go.£7.90. It was busy and I accepted a wait . When I got the sandwich I thought for an £8 sandwich it felt a bit light. When I looked it contained about 2 small slices of pastrami a single sliced small pickle and a few pieces of what looked like sun dried tomato. There was a distinct absence of cheese . The waitress said she'd get me a new one, what came back was the same sandwich with two small slices of pretty tasteless cheese inserted. I've been here many times before and food was good if a little pricey . But today I was absolutely ripped off , I wouldn't pay a pound for that sandwich any from Greggs would have been better.
Yunus B — Google review
I've never posted a bad review about a food establishment before but feel compelled to post this. There's 1 particular woman who works here who always scowls at me when she sees me. I've never paid it any heed - not my problem. But then she made racist remarks when I went for coffee & breakfast one morning with my partner. It was along the lines of "we don't want you lot coming here" when I got to the till. I'm mixed race, and she felt the need to say that specifically to me, for no reason. There was a queue there, it was embarressing and I was shocked she'd even said that. Few months on, I went in there with my partner as he picked up some coffees for us. Unfortunately for me, she saw me and gave my filthy looks yet again. I was born and bred here, this used to be my local - don't know why anyone would think they have the right to tell me where I do and don't have a "right" to be; this is my hometown too. Also, the other staff who work there are lovely, but I won't be going back.

Pub
Nestled in the charming South Gosforth area of Newcastle, The Brandling Villa is a delightful independent pub that caters to both humans and their furry companions. Known for its impressive selection of craft beers and whiskies, this cozy spot also serves up some of the juiciest homemade burgers around. What truly sets The Brandling Villa apart is its warm, dog-friendly atmosphere; many local pups are regulars here, often preferring it over their own homes!
The food is very good and they bring it very soon. There is not any drink on the menu you must order and pay them directly! We chose hamburger and Win Win (fried chicken) both of them are delicious but the hamburger could be more tasty by adding some spice. Overall I recommend it. This place is definitely worth spending time, especially if you have your dog with you.
Majid R — Google review
I went to this pub as I heard they make their own beer. I tried three of them, which were offered in third of a pint measure. This was great as it gives you the opportunity to try more, without drinking too much. The loaded fries I ordered were really good and I thought the portion size was good value. The staff are very friendly and the pub is clean and well kept. I would definitely recommend the Brandling Villa and will return next time I am in Gosforth.

Only popped in for a quick drink before the match, Chicken Tenders are 10/10 absolutely sensational. Loads of 0% larger available and on show, with a few fruit options. Will definitely come back for food and drinks again.

Decent very decent burgers!! Chicken is absolutely delicious here. Steak and chips seemed just a little short of steak and the nachos were just okay. Good range of beers here and staff are very helpful. VERY dog friendly, too friendly for me!! Takes American Express and has high chairs.

Such a lovely pub. The food menu is unusual and doesn't have the usual pub meals. The food we ordered was absolutely delicious. The bar staff were helpful too on what ales were the best. They also had a dog food menu. Great place.
Sarah T — Google review
One of our favourite pubs in the Newcastle area. Atmosphere is great with good music selection (we are 18, 28 and 30 year olds), varied crowd of people, and dogs allowed! Live music here is often great. Big TV for watching the games on. The food is what does it for us though, with high quality ingredients and delicious offerings. Portion sizes are large and food is usually cooked to perfection - we love the chips and burgers. You pay a bit more than at other pubs but it's worth it.
Nicole A — Google review
Great place, been here a few times over the years and it's always a really nice atmosphere. Stopped in today for lunch with my partner and teenage daughter and the pooches. I had a burger, other half had dirty fries and my daughter had the chicken burger. Everything we had was fantastic, my daughter said her chicken burger was "banging", which I think is teenage for "proper tasty like".

What a pub! Might just be the best I have visited in the UK - good choice of beers and the burgers are unreal! The pub is super dog friendly too, so a great place to head down to with your canine best friend as well!

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Newcastle, The Head of Steam Quayside is an intimate venue that promises a memorable night out. With a cozy capacity of just 90, it fosters a close-knit atmosphere where music lovers can truly connect with the performers. While it may host smaller bands, this only enhances the experience as fans passionately sing along to every tune.
We regularly come here for lunch on nice days after a walk along the quayside. The only bit I don't like about it is that the tables, sauce bottles and menus are usually sticky to the touch. That aside, they have a really comprehensive beer menu (we enjoyed pineapple and grapefruit wheat beer shandies last time) and the food is pretty good. The lunch menu offers a good discount and we usually go for burgers or gyros.
Julie B — Google review
Busy and didn't have the character of a real ale pub or the friendly welcoming nature. Seemed a bit run if the mill and too busy to really have any interest in 'people'. Beer was nice and it was around 6-7 pm on a Saturday, so would like to go in at quieter time to compare better.
Sean H — Google review
Depending on which day you visit, it can be very very busy, or very quiet! I visited across two days and noticed the Friday night was jam packed, compared to the Sunday afternoon. We had food on the Sunday but I wasn't impressed. It was quite expensive for what it was. The chips weren't cooked and some were still quite cold/wet. The food just wasn't what I imagined as I had been a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Ground floor access to toilets which is great. It's a big enough bar that you can normally find a free seat!
Corinne R — Google review
Took my mate here and waited outside because I remember last year the food being incredible. What ever happened? Did the chef quit? It’s absolutely unacceptable to serve stale 1 or two day old food to customers. Ordered two burger and chips from here and what came was a joke. Two black thin burgers burned to a crisp which almost took out my tooth. Zero bounce, juice or moisture meaning they probably were sat for a day or two then absolutely nuked to charcoal and served. And if I wasn’t convinced about the stale old food the fries came, again, zero moisture dried dead fries looking slightly green in colour. I tried one and honestly- the texture wasn’t pleasant. It was stale flakes of dried old potato. Chef didn’t even have time to cook the burgers and prepare the meal if it was all done fresh plus the lack of grease would suggest I'm right about the food being old and dry then reheated.
Jon M — Google review
Very nice bar, very good selection of quality beers. Limited menu but what they do is very good. I had the dirty fries which were pretty good. You get a choice of toppings, I went for katsu chicken. The swaharma salad is very good too. They do other stuff like burgers etc. The food came pretty quickly too. Tucked away off the quayside but well worth a visit. Definitely worth a visit.

Me and my partner always make sure we visit this place when coming up to visit family in Newcastle. Very friendly staff, fantastic atmosphere, great beers and more. We had a meal here not too long ago on a very busy Saturday, and still couldn’t fault the service or delicious food. I’ll make it my mission some day to have one of their sharing boards to myself.

I had an excellent time here on my birthday. There is a very good range of beers on draught and in cans

The Head Of Steam Quayside stands out for all the right reasons which is no easy feat given there’s hardly a shortage of pubs in Newcastle. Love the interior, plenty of personality and character. The layout is not so cramped that it’s overwhelming, not so spread out that it loses atmosphere, spot on. Not tried the food from here yet so can’t comment on that. Fast and reliable service, good selection of drinks, dog friendly, and in a brilliant location.

The Holy Hobo is a trendy lounge-bar with an industrial-chic vibe, featuring exposed-brick walls, leather sofas, and live music. On Wednesdays, they host The Holy Hobos Big Fact Hunt, an interactive quiz night with unique challenges and great prizes. This rustic bar is a favorite hangout for people of all ages looking to unwind with live music, pool games, and cocktails on weekends.
We had our wedding celebrations at the Holy Hobo and it was fantastic! Special shout out to Cal and Kirstin who completely understood what we wanted and managed to create a casual and fun but still 'weddingy' afternoon and evening. Everyone has raved about how delicious the food and drinks were, how good the atmosphere was, and generally how much fun it was! You helped decorate, accommodated our photo opp (and babysat it afterwards...thank you!!). DJs organized for us, and were amazing, karaoke finished the evening off perfectly too. Everyone was lovely and we really appreciate how easy the whole thing was from start to finish, loads of options and nothing was a problem (non alcoholic options, delicious vegan choices etc). Would 100% recommend the Holy Hobo for anyone wanting a relaxed wedding or party but with gorgeous food and cocktails and a wonderful atmosphere. Thank you again, it was amazing! Xx

Went on Tuesday night and have been multiple times before. Were harassed in line for over and hour by guys coming at our group of girls for being American. Racist comments were made to my non white friends. Ended up getting kicked out by a power tripping bouncer who trusted the guys word over ours. Absolutely dogshit and disgusting behavior. Never coming back here. Bouncer needs to be checked.

Went for a "snack meal" .... and came away replete +++. The staff were fantastic.. Ordered various chicken wings, fries etc... Delivered very hot... lovely marinades. Slaw wasn't on the menu separately, but hats off.. the chef came out of the kitchen and sorted us. 👌 can't wait to return.. Superb value for money.

Did not let my freind In because she had Italian identification which is legal. They requested an English drivers license. After 40 mins of arguments, we got told we couldn’t come I , now not due to the identification but because of ‘agression’. Absolutely no aggression, just upset because my freind was not let in because she’s Italian. Explaining why we were annoyed.

Quirky, stunning restaurant. A little bit hard to find initially. Comfy seating. Nice music and vibes. The staff were so lovely and helpful. However, we looked prior to coming on the menu online and turns out most of that stuff has changed. I got the signature burger and the cheesy peri peri chips whilst my fiancé got the vegan versions. It was the best burger I have ever eaten. Plus, we both had a delicious cocktail. We were so full afterwards. Amazing portion sizes too.

Nestled in the heart of Newcastle, The Bridge Hotel is a delightful Tudor-style pub that effortlessly combines history with modern charm. Set against the backdrop of the medieval Castle Keep, this inviting establishment offers breathtaking views of the River Tyne from its outdoor terrace and beer garden. Inside, guests can enjoy a warm ambiance featuring cozy Victorian snugs, intricate wooden paneling, and stunning stained-glass windows.
It's one of the most beautiful pubs in NCL. It's just across the Newcastle Castle and a few metres from the Tyne River. Drinks were good and service was quick. I'd recommend it as one of the "must visit" pubs in NCL.

Bridge Hotel is simply a decent boozer. It’s big enough to accommodate a lot of punters but still feels like a local. It’s got the energy, the buzz….but you’ll also hopefully get a seat. Plus it’s damn handsome. Rock solid.

Had a quiet pint here whilst on a 2 day art visit to Newcastle. Beautiful old pub by the castle and one of its many bridges. A lovely sunny day meant the stained glass in the windows was truly glowing. Friendly barmaid in a lovely place, good beer choice I had a hoppy pale ale, highly recommended

Paulicarus is ticking off the 2025 CAMRA Good Beer Guide entries. Sat overlooking the low level swing bridge where Christine's dad Jim used to work the night shift in the late 1970's. Next to the high level bridge, hence the name. Ten handpump real ales cement this as a GBG pub. My first ever visit to this marvellous building. A small outside river view beer terrace with super views not open in March. ( needs TLC.) A new brewery for me, Breworks in Pickering. A 5% Coal Porter..ha ha. Downstair toilets let down the place

wasn't sure if they had real ale here, but thought I remembered it being OK. how wrong I was. it's fantastic. they have 8 ales and a couple of ciders on cask, plus a large keg selection! tried a couple; both well kept. excellent bar!

Beautiful pub building, ummolested it seems - beautiful vintage interior. Lots of beer. B Friendly bar staff who love pubs, beer and other chats. Interesting little garden by the bridge. Got to check this place if you haven't before.

A wonderful little find a short distance from the Riverside and Newcastle Central Station. Very busy bar, standing room only for us. Fabulous atmosphere offering a wide range of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including some local brews. The toilets are located downstairs. If you like stained glass, do have a look around at the scenes depicting the traditional trade of the area. Directly opposite, you'll find Newcastle Keep and part of the old castle walls, castle well, and the Castle Stairs. I suspect the way to do the stairs is down and not up as we did!!

The Tanners Arms is a traditional pub located in the up-and-coming Ouseburn neighborhood of Newcastle. It offers a mix of traditional and trendy vibes, making it a popular local spot. The pub features regular live bands and DJs, along with locally brewed ales. Their menu includes handcrafted burgers like the Cheeky Monkey Butter and vegetarian options like the Blue Hal. Additionally, they offer loaded fries with various toppings inspired by different cuisines, catering to both meat lovers and vegetarians.
One of the best bites in Byker! Couldn't recommend this place enough especially after a nice tootle around Ouseburn - staff are very welcoming, great selection of drinks (especially beer) and food to die for!! Would definitely get the slow cooked beef brisket fries!!
Callum M — Google review
Tanners Arms Pub Review Visited Tanners Arms recently, and while the experience had some positive points, it ultimately fell short of my expectations. First, the service was great – the tall server was friendly and welcoming, which made a positive first impression. The pub is also dog-friendly, which is always a nice touch for pet owners. However, the menu was a bit underwhelming. While it’s a pub, I expected a bit more variety. Most of the options seemed to be either chicken or beef burgers, with about 90% of the menu being Cajun chicken-related dishes. I was looking forward to trying something new, given the pub's high rating for food, but sadly, it didn’t live up to the hype. The food itself was average. The chips were greasy and had a distinct old fryer oil taste, which was disappointing. The burger, despite being advertised as "gourmet," was very plain. It lacked any dressing or interesting flavor – just a basic burger with no excitement. For the price (£17-£25 per person), I expected more. The venue had a nice atmosphere, but it could use a little work in terms of upkeep and ambiance. Unfortunately, I didn’t use the toilets, so I can’t comment on those. Overall, I wanted to love this place, but the food didn’t quite hit the mark. Would I return? Maybe for a drink or to try something else on the menu, but I’ll be lowering my expectations for the food next time

Absolutely AMAZING Sunday lunch had here. The friendliest staff too. We had the Belly Pork and we ordered sharing portion of cauliflower cheese. The BEST cauliflower cheese we’ve ever tasted!! Will definitely visit again.

A must stop if you want to taste the authenticity in Newcastle. Sunday Roast is an unforgettable experience which maximizes the saying of “where ever you go do what you see others do”.
Javier E — Google review
When I asked for Sunday lunch recommendations, this place was the most recommended by FAR. Absolutely worth the hype couldn't fault this dinner at all, just be sure to book in advance. We got a pork belly and a beef and also shared some stuffing and pigs in blankets. Dinners were around £17 which is really good for the quality and portion size we were all stuffed! Fluffy but crispy roasties, creamy mash, tasty honey carrots and loads of gravy! From what I could see they only did mains but tbf you don't need starters or puds
Elizabeth W — Google review
Decent vegan Full English though far from my favourite. Reasonably priced though, and the only vegan breakfast I’ve had that includes an alternative to black pudding so that made a nice change. There’s a reason this place is known especially for their Sunday roasts, absolutely outstanding. I can see why everybody raves about them, a rare case of something actually living up to the hype. Disappointingly on my part, I’m yet to actually clear my plate as the portions are quite monstrous. Been here with relatives and my partner on separate occasions, glowing reviews all around. Be sure to make a reservation as they get full up quite a few Sundays in advance. My only complaints are that the interior isn’t very nice on the eye, not mine anyways but I’ll be happy to accept that that might be unpopular, personal taste and all, and the staff are quite unfriendly, at least the ones I’ve been served by.
Ryan R — Google review
Absolutely delicious Sunday dinner. Reasonable price for the quality and quantity, yes you can get cheaper, but I doubt it would be better. Service was great as well, really friendly waitstaff. Would definitely return

One of the best sunday dinners ive ever had, 100% in the top 3 within 5 miles of Newcastle. We went for the big beef dinner and it didn't disappoint, some nice beers on tap with friendly service and good space out the front if you manage to catch some sun. Highlights were the mash and slow cooked beef 😋 .Booking in advance is recommended.

The pub features a renovated bar area, two upper level function rooms for performances, and a new rooftop terrace for enjoying drinks outdoors.
Been to this pub a couple of times love it. Good range of ales and ciders on, food menu looks good not tried yet.

You definitely want to include The Central in your crawl if venturing over the river. It makes a nice contrast to the quirky craft beer joints nearby. The Central is not quirky but does offer plenty of interesting beers on tap. It’s relatively spartan, relatively basic and harks back to a bygone era. As dependable as an old Geordie gent.

Didn't eat but had a few excellent pints of Guinness right up on the roof terrace. The pub seems to have various rooms for either a game of pool or a gig (I saw posters for the brilliant Malcolm Middleton gig being held in October). Shame I was only visiting as this place would be a super local.

I used to love this place, the staff were nice and had amazing pizza. But their staff members are so miserable, and didn’t call last orders which meant that she effectively told us to finish our drinks within 5 minutes because she wanted to close up. Bit weird. One of my favourite bars in town. Great atmosphere and have the best bands on in Newcastle. Music always played nice and loud.

The star is your traditional boozer. Good selection of good quality beverages. The clientele is of the more rough and ready. The venue does have live music and particular band playing ska music were fantastic. Because of the popularity the bar becomes very busy which can lead to drinks being constantly knocked which gets irritating. All in all a good pub!

The star in is a no nonsense pub with real people who enjoy metal and rock music at the weekend. The beer is reasonably priced and the bar staff are very welcoming. You'll find ac/dc, thin lizzy, bands etc as well as ska and punk. It's one of the few remaining real bars in the city centre. 👍
Jimbo — Google review
Been drinking here for years and the place has gone under several transformations. The Star was always a bit of a dive but has recently been given a much needed makeover and is all the better for it. Good range of drinks at very good prices and live music at the weekends. Seen some brilliant bands there over the years and the occasional famous person as the o2 academy is across the road. Gets very busy when NUFC are playing at home. Lots of seating and plenty big screens.

Avoid this venue if you are a non-smoker. The security staff were vaping at the front of the stage as were several members of the audience. If you also want to stand for hours and hours squashed together then this is the place for you. There is little seating. Parking is available right outside however spaces are at a premium. For the organisers, can I suggest forming a separate queue for VIP ticket holders with signage? No one knew where to stand for VIP entry and entry into the venue was delayed because of this. A half pint of coke (or rather a plastic container half full of ice and a little bit of coke) was £1.90. If you do have a soft drink then ask for no ice otherwise you are paying for half a container of water...

Went to Riverside Newcastle for the Boyce Avenue concert. It’s a small hall but that’s what I liked about it. It wasn’t overcrowded. We got to stand at the front row so watched the concert from up close. It’s located at a beautiful place. You can view the bridges or just sit beside the Tyne river and enjoy the view.

First time at this venue. I had heard negative reports due to the physical layout i.e. where the bar is situated on the ground floor. If there had been a full capacity crowd for Bob Mould last night, then I would have to agree that the bar is in the wrong position, from a punter's perspective. The sound was good, staff were as friendly as can be expected. I'd say the location was great but as you are inside it doesn't really matter.

Fab underground (literally) rock/alt music bar. Great service and atmosphere.
Peter S — Google review
Quality little dive. That might sounds strange but this is the sort of rock bar that was common 20+ years ago and you can tell that by the decor and clientèle. The floor is blackened and sticky, some of it could once be classed as carpet. The toilets are complete with urine soaked floors and tiny stalls. Service was exemplary with lovely, friendly and polite staff. Drinks prices were standard. Music was old, as we're most of the patrons, but there is something very comfortable and safe with these classic bars. It was an enjoyable evening and I'd love to go back if ever I'm in the area again.

The best rock bar in the world and my spiritual home! 🤘 I've been going to Trillians since the 90s and it's been a mainstay of the Newcastle metal scene forever! It was the bar we went to before going to The Mayfair (now gone) before Legends (now gone) and it's thankfully survived over the years. It's a real rock/metal bar and long may it survive. Whenever I'm in Newcastle I always try to pop in for a snakey and black. Long may Trillians live!

First time visit to Trillions Rock Bar whilst in Newcastle to see a friends band playing. Having never been in a rock bar before I didn’t know what to expect, however I was not disappointed. The atmosphere in the bar was electric (literally). The staff were friendly and efficient and the price of beer was surprisingly good for a city centre bar. All in all, a great night was had by not just myself, but by everyone in the bar. Great venue, great entertainment, nicely priced beer and a spot on service. 5 stars.

I honestly don’t usually write reviews, but I feel like I have to after tonight. My favourite bar managed to absolutely butcher Valerie by Amy Winehouse. What should have been a fun, soulful singalong turned into an off-key, dragged-out mess that completely killed the atmosphere. It was awkward to sit through and really disappointing for a place that I normally love. If this is how they’re handling the music now, it takes away from what made the bar special in the first place. Please, either stick to songs that can actually be pulled off, or leave Amy Winehouse alone.

A great pub with friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the local area. There is a nice atmosphere of local friendliness combined with the local way of life which is reassuring when people are in a new area. The theme had a punk/rock vibe and had great wall art to match. I have heard that there are live bands that play here however I unfortunately didn't get the chance to stick around to see as I was a bit rushed for time. They also have a selection of food you can order. Drinks are at reasonable prices for the local area and students get a discount (so bring your student I.D. 😄 Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area, and check out the live performances if they are on in the evening. 😊

came in here a couple months back with friends and was spoken to like something someone stood in when we picked up the tips jar that had ‘for boob surgery’ so we could actually put something because it was funny instead got accused of stealing off the bar lady, wasn’t asked to leave or anything as we had done nothing wrong got someone else to serve us while the women went off and sulked. many other bars in newcastle to go to other than this wouldn’t recommend really if this is what people are treated like.

Nice terrace but it depends what time you go. It can get overcrowded and dirty later in the evening. Last time I was there two weeks ago the floor was covered in beer or whatever and it was thus pretty slippery. The bathroom was an absolute nightmare too. Otherwise decent place.

Waste of time on a Sunday, you will be waiting half an hour at the bar if you don’t have a cocktail voucher. They will prioritise the people with vouchers over you. Stood at the bar in front of people but the person behind gets served first because they have a voucher. Just decided to leave after not getting served for that long. Wasted an hour of our night as it was a walk there and a walk back just to not get served.

Great venue for any time of a night out, the music and atmosphere were consistently high and the drinks are reasonable priced, me st have spot on any night out, or for stags and hens

Pub
Live music bar
Nestled in the picturesque streets of Newcastle upon Tyne, The Cumberland Arms is a charming pub with a rich history dating back to the 1860s. Inside, visitors are greeted by an eclectic mix of furniture that exudes a playful and whimsical vibe. The lively atmosphere is filled with friendly banter and laughter, creating an intoxicating blend of mirth and merriment. The pub also boasts a beer garden perfect for enjoying drinks with friends or family.
A super traditional pub a short(ish) walk from the City Centre. Had a gay old time as The Flintstones might say. Super real ale bar. Alic and Booth on their first ever visit. Seems to be trapped between busy roads but people still find it. Large front beer terrace on a less than sunny August evening. Good pint of Stout from local brewery Flying Gang.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
Decent little pub and great for sitting in the sun with a drink. The venue itself is relatively small and the majority of the seating is outside...there was spill over onto the lawn on one side. Punters following the sun. I would defo go back.

Staff are all lovely and welcoming. The outdoor beer garden is lush and often has live music and rapper dancers. The eclectic mix of live music, comedy and special events are always top quality. I highly recommend this place it's everything you want from a traditional pub with a warm welcome and when autumn winter comes around the cosiness of a real fire .

Wednesday 24th September 2025 This pub is deceptive looking from the outside looks 19oos and inside it is a lot older feel to it It has a unspoilt feeling It has a great frontage outdoor drinking area. The landlord is a gentleman that truly understands real ales. There's 5 spectacular real ales on from locally and in some cases obscure breweries When in Newcastle this pub for real ale drinkers is a must to drink in Go in

We went with our Morris ‘side’ for a get together with many of the other Morris Dance sides in the region . A good night was had by all those dancing and spectating . Food is limited to bar snacks but excellent range of beers and ciders . We were all with friends and enjoying dancing together on a summer’s evening . So atmosphere was great …. Even the ‘civilians’ enjoyed themselves

Sanctimonious bar maid got the 'wrong end of the stick' of a private conversation and asked us to leave. I've been to this excellent pub many times over the last decade but won't be back.
Stuart H — Google review
Can't believe first visit to this pub, reason being where it is located, a bit off track from other pubs. In saying that, it's only a 10 minute walk from Byker metro station. Good old fashioned boozer, with an excellent atmosphere in a good location in Ouseburn. Reasonable selection of drinks and decent prices. When back in Newcastle again, will attempt to walk to Ouseburn and visit again.

The Chillingham, located on Chillingham Road in Heaton, Newcastle Upon Tyne, is a traditional pub popular with locals and students. It offers a cozy atmosphere with a mix of patrons and features a function room for live music and quizzes. The pub serves pub grub and an extensive selection of real ale, local craft beers, spirits, and wine. With big screens for sports events in the bar area and a quieter lounge with more seating, it caters to various preferences.
Great pub with a good mix of locals and students during term time. Haven't eaten here for a while but the food looked good from what I saw. Its my old local before I moved so has a lot of memories. It's a decent pub for the football with big screens in the bar area and a separate lounge which is a bit quieter and has more seating. Has a very good selection of local craft ale and the unusual tap beers. Good selection of spirits and decent wine. Well worth a look in, very friendly. You'll be chatting away if you sit at the bar in no time.
Phil A — Google review
I entered the establishment, my friend was sitting waiting for me to arrive, my friend greeted me enthusiastically and said hello to my dog. I bought us drinks and it wasn't until I had sat down, the lady behind the bar told me dogs weren't allowed - only in the beer garden. It's 5 degrees outside- my friend has a cold and we explained this to be angrily told to go outside - i explained as soon as we have finished our drinks. She informed us that she has told others so I can't have preferential treatment.
Deborah C — Google review
The Chillingham is a reasonable pub. They have some decent beers and it's comfortable enough. Service at the bar always seems slow and the atmosphere sometimes feels a little stale.
Richard H — Google review
Lovely pub with excellent prices. Food is decent, don’t have a picture but I have had the nachos and you couldn’t go wrong. Only problem I have had is that sometimes the pints are poured quite badly. Flat and tastes bitter. This has happened with Fosters a few times but never had a problem with other beers. Very nice and chill with good TV’s for the football.

Not many bar staff on that night but, 1st time there and not disappointed, great Guinness and plenty of beers and lagers to choose from.

Called in for lunch! We opted for burgers and fries. Unfortunately and with no apologies on arrival these took 50 minutes to be served. Maybe this is a standard wait time but unless busy (it wasn't) and the wait time is explained before ordering and paying I find it unacceptable. The salad - lettuce and cucumber with no dressing. Would have been a 1star review but the burger was tasty.

Live music venue
Hoochie Coochie is a vibrant and intimate bar located in the heart of the city. During weekdays, it offers a cozy ambiance with candle-lit settings, while on weekends, it transforms into a lively spot featuring DJs and live performances by soul, funk, and jazz bands. The venue has hosted renowned artists such as Chaka Khan and Gregory Porter along with superstar DJs like Norman Jay and Jazzy Jeff.
I absolutely love Pilgrims. The atmosphere is so chill. The music is so on point. Great dancing space. DJ Kriss is my favourite. But the variety of music and the artists they put on are awesome. Drinks are priced well and there’s always a good range.

We were there for Fantastic Negrito. Managed to get get parked up for free at Dean Street Car Park. It's only a few minutes walk from there uphill. Nice vibe inside. First time we had ever been there. Played for about 95 minutes. We managed to get some seating which was a bonus.

Having visited Pilgrim a few times with friends, I decided to introduce my work colleagues to it last night while we were out in Newcastle for a meal and drinks. We arrived partway through the ‘Almost Heaven’ session—the dance floor was packed, the atmosphere was electric, and the vibes were just perfect. We settled into the Sanctuary area, which gave us the best of both worlds: space to chat, laugh, dance, and enjoy some lovely Prosecco. Everyone had such a great time—so much so, no one wanted to move on! The general consensus was: how do you top this? A huge thanks to Team Pilgrim for an unforgettable evening!

St. James' STACK has made a grand return in August 2024, transforming into a vibrant social hotspot that promises fun for everyone. Nestled near the Gallowgate end, this lively venue boasts an impressive container village design and is dog-friendly, making it perfect for family outings. With an array of food vendors like Brack Burger and Bao Down, there's something to satisfy every palate. The atmosphere buzzes with live music events and unique activities such as Kroud Karaoke sing-alongs.
I visited during lunchtime and was really impressed. The setup is incredibly unique, with large shipping containers stacked together to create a vibrant space full of diverse food options. The variety of cuisines on offer is fantastic, and the overall vibe of the place is unlike anything else. What really surprised me on my first visit was how busy it was, even on a weekday. The live music added a great atmosphere and made the experience even more enjoyable. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more from the different vendors. The food I had was really good with not a lot of choice from the particular vendor, but with how busy it must get, I can't imagine they could provide many more options. Highly recommend giving this place a visit!

Awful bar and "venue". This week, the staff act like they don't want to be bothered by customers. The sound of the band on stage was a total mess. The sound guy used to be good. They had an unprofessional person with a camera there that constantly was pushing me out the way or in my view trying to take photographs - They used to have professionals doing that job. Almost everything about this venue has severely dropped in quality. World of Music to this venue means Jazz to them. They need to get their professional staff back, sacking the current sound guy, bar staff and photographers. This place should be closed down or run by new management that care. Save some money and have a better experience elsewhere.

Cracking night at Passing clouds last night, Saturday 17th from 9.30pm onwards. Tremendous three piece band playing all the pop hits with a pop-rock edge. Great venue and staff. There are some untrue reviews that have recently been left by the hunt fraternity; after they found out a benefit gig to support those who are against bloodsports is being held here - hunt supporters are spreading lies in a desperate attempt to target small businesses who host anti bloodsports groups. Disingenuous accusations have been made by those who participate in illegal and cruel bloodsports, they are clearly feeling threatened by the people who monitor their illegal and cruel activities. Thankfully businesses like this will not be bullied into submission. We are on the right side of history. Medieval throwbacks will not deter our mission. Thanks for continuing to help wildlife and the groups who protect them from being persecuted for egotistical purposes.
