Sardis, an ancient city in Turkey, is one of the seven churches of Revelation mentioned in the New Testament. It's part of a road trip from Izmir that includes visits to Ephesus and Pergamon. Additionally, you can explore the other three churches of Thyatira, Philadelphia, and Laodicea within driving distance in the Aegean region. Sardis offers a glimpse into biblical history and is a must-visit for travelers interested in religious heritage.

Pamukkale Turizm Genel Müdürlüğü is a must-visit UNESCO World Heritage site near Izmir. It's renowned for its stunning thermal springs and striking white travertine terraces. Visitors can luxuriate in the warm, mineral-rich waters and wander through the nearby ancient city of Hierapolis. The company provides high-quality and secure transportation services, with well-trained employees and drivers ensuring a safe journey for all passengers.
They basically held my hand from Canakkale all the way to Kusadasi, making sure I found the bathroom at the bus stations, got back on the right bus, getting me coffee and snacks, and just generally making sure that I was safely cared for the entire trip! Literally, the bus person WALKED me to the bathroom at the big Izmir station so I wouldn't get lost. My Turkish is abysmal, but I give it a shot, and we used the translator plenty. I absolutely appreciate their care, effort, and kindness for my entire trip! ❤️. Seats were spacious and comfortable. Conscientious, careful driver!

We missed the bus from izmir to denizli because of the lack of information given by their workers. We are foreigners and they don't seem to care if we don't speak turkish well and might not understand some things. If you want to go to denizli from izmir I recommend you to use the train rather than the bus.

I bought a ticket from İzmir to Istanbul three days in advance. Just 5 hours before the trip, our bus was canceled without asking, and we were moved to another one. At the terminal, we learned this change was made by sending a message, no confirmation was requested. We were placed in the back row, which was extremely uncomfortable: hot, the seat barely moved, and we had to smell gas the whole way. This was the worst bus experience I’ve had in Türkiye. Their so-called “Jumbo” bus was a total fiasco. I paid 1,200 TL more than a plane ticket for this. I DO NOT RECOMMEND Pamukkale Tourism. Stay away!

(Translated by Google) Anadolu and Pamukkale companies provide really high-quality and safe transportation, their employees and drivers are trained and ensure you have a safe journey, I have been using it for many years and I am very satisfied. If they have flights to my destination, my first choice is definitely Pamukkale or Anadolu Turizm, and I recommend them to you. (Translated by Google) I bought a ticket for the 18:30 Kütahya Eskişehir flight. At 18:00 I asked the clerk's office, he said it would arrive on time, the bus arrived, I asked the driver and the assistant, even there were other people sitting in my seats, they also had tickets, when he said sit in the empty seats, the assistant said I will arrange it, that bus was the 18:45 bus, ours had left, no one called, no one asked, the bus left at 18:45, the assistant stopped it, they tried to let me off, they said you can't get on this, are you kidding me, I have a bus from Eskisehir to Giresun at 20:30, I said why are you letting me off, and the guy at the clerk's office took 240 liras from me, hurry up, victimization upon victimization, I will complain about the clerk's office, the assistant, all of them, the issue is not that I paid extra for the 240 liras, the issue is that they tried to let me off, although it was their fault, I have a disabled child, on top of that, they took money in cash, on top of that they called me and asked for my ID, when the clerk's office didn't give it, they gave me two male tickets as they wished They sent me a message to issue a ticket, they know how to call, they can't call before the bus leaves, I will complain to everywhere in Pamukkale. We prefer Pamukkale corporate, but it seems regretful, I will write everywhere and file a lawsuit. They should learn their job, more humanity should learn, the officer in the office, Palas Pandaras, took the money, saying give me 240 liras quickly. Disrespect is endless... I'll briefly explain the incident: On August 18, 12:45 AM, I boarded a Pamukkale Tourism vehicle (16 ES 486) from the Izmir/Urla terminal and was traveling to Istanbul with my family (2 adults, 2 children). Near Susurluk, I was awakened by panic and shouting inside the vehicle. The vehicle had veered off the lane and was stumbling along the road. The driver had fallen asleep. Several passengers and the bus attendant, Çetin Erden, woke the driver, allowing the vehicle to continue. Everyone was terrified. We've been traveling with this company for years. But how will Pamukkale Tourism be held accountable for this lack of oversight? Was the driver sleepy, tired, ill, undisciplined? We don't know any of this. Was he drunk? If all the passengers on this bus are alive today, I believe we owe it to the few passengers and the bus attendants who woke the driver. We thank them from here. May our paths never cross again, Pamukkale Tourism. (Original) !!!PAMUKKALE TURİZM YÜZÜNDEN AZ KALSIN ÖLÜYORDUK!!! Ben Mustafa Sarıkaya. Olayı kısaca anlatıyorum: 18 Ağustos 00:45, 16 ES 486 Pamukkale Turizm’e ait araca İzmir/Urla terminalinden binip İstanbul’a doğru ailemle (2 yetişkin, 2 çocuk) yolculuk yapıyorduk.

We noticed my wife's suitcase was there, but my orange 55x40 cabin-sized suitcase was missing. All the clothing and money I needed for my 19-day trip have been lost. Since I have the original copies of my essential residence documents, I'm facing entry difficulties and numerous other problems I'll face abroad. My orange, 55cm x 40cm diameter, cabin-sized suitcase, checked in baggage number 010328, which I have a ticket for, has disappeared, causing me significant financial and emotional harm throughout my international travels. Since all liabilities for the luggage checked under the bus, which I didn't have with me on this trip, are covered by the assistance and Pamukkale insurance. Since I'm leaving the country on Tuesday, December 19th, I demand that my suitcase, which I believe to be stolen, be located immediately. The Ataturk Museum is housed in a grand neoclassical mansion and offers a glimpse into the political life and history of Ataturk, the first president of Turkey. The museum showcases personal belongings of Ataturk, including his clothes, furniture, and books. The stately white building was once the residence of Ataturk during his visits to the city between 1923 and 1934. Visitors can explore exhibits honoring this great figure.

The father of the modern Turkish nation, Gazi Mustafa Kemal, also known as Ataturk - father of the Turkish people - and the city of Izmir have very strong ties. This is where he launched his war of liberation after the first World War. This is also where he met his wife who was born and raised in Izmir. The Ataturk Museum explains the history of Ataturk in painstaking details and displays many daily artifacts. If you're at all interested in modern Turkish history, don't miss this museum.

Atatürk Museum in İzmir is a beautiful and peaceful place full of modern history. The building itself is elegant and well preserved, showing the architecture of the early 20th century. Inside, you can see many personal belongings, like clothes of Atatürk, his photos, documents, and furniture used during his stays in İzmir. The building is like a complete house, dining room, meeting room, bed room... The museum gives a clear picture of his life and his great role in Turkish history. The entry is free, the staff are kind and helpful, which makes it easy for everyone to visit. It’s located near the sea, so after visiting the museum, you can enjoy a nice walk along the Kordon. Overall, it’s a wonderful place to learn, reflect, and feel close to Atatürk’s memory. Highly recommended for both locals and tourists.

St. John's Cathedral, a stunning architectural gem in the heart of Izmir, serves as the seat of the Catholic Archdiocese and is dedicated to John the Evangelist, one of Jesus' apostles. Construction began in 1862 and was completed twelve years later, resulting in a beautiful sanctuary that offers a serene escape from the bustling city life around it. Visitors often describe their experiences attending Mass here as warm and welcoming, thanks to friendly priests who foster an inviting atmosphere for worshippers.

The Church of St. Vukolos, also known as St. Ayavukla, is a historic site in Izmir with deep roots in the city's past. Initially built to honor Saint Vukolos, it served as a place of worship until 1922 when its congregation departed Izmir. Following this, the church was repurposed into the Asar-i Atika Museum at the request of Ataturk and has since been used as a cultural center.

While playing the piano, he said my head was swollen and silenced me! A soda bottle was thrown into the crowd from the outside to the church during the concert from one of the houses around it. Wear a bulletproof vest when you go!!

Ancient Ruins
Agora Ören Yeri, located in Izmir, is an open-air museum showcasing the remains of an ancient Greek and Roman market and city center. Dating back to the end of the 4th century BC, this historical site was ruined by an earthquake in AD 178 but was soon rebuilt under the orders of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius.
This historic site is absolutely worth visiting! Rich in cultural heritage and stunning architecture, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. The well-preserved ruins and informative exhibits make it both educational and visually captivating. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply exploring, the site's timeless charm leaves a lasting impression. Don’t miss this unforgettable journey through history!

Archeological area is interesting but there is only a limited area that you can visit. Very nice the architecture of the remaining buildings, but most of agora is destroyed.
Manucsn — Google review
I think Agora Ören Yer is an absolute gem! The ancient ruins are breathtaking, and the history is palpable. Walking through the streets and marketplace, you can almost imagine life in ancient times. The scenery is stunning, with beautiful views and well-preserved architecture. A must-visit for history buffs and anyone looking for a glimpse into the past. Highly recommend! 🏯👏

I went in October 2025. The ticket costed €6. Overall, if you don’t have time to travel all the way to Ephesus (Efes) and pay €40 there (for foreigners), I think Agora is a good option. They closed a big part of the site. On the day I came, there were groups of people meditating and practicing some preaching/debate. Still a nice sight to see.
Khanh T — Google review
Ancient city in ruins. The extractions are still on going. The aqueduct from the Roman period is still pumping the water, though the source is unknown. The Byzantine mosaic floor is also very astonishing. Definitely recommend this archeological place.

Today, I had the chance to visit Agora Ören Yeri, a historical gem in the heart of Izmir. This ancient site, once the bustling marketplace of Smyrna, offers a fascinating glimpse into Roman and Greek history. Walking among its towering columns, intricate arches, and underground cisterns, I could truly imagine the vibrant trade, political discussions, and daily life that once took place here. One of the highlights of my visit was exploring the well-preserved vaulted chambers and water channels, which showcase the incredible engineering skills of the past. The atmosphere is peaceful, yet the whispers of history linger in the air, making it a must-visit for history lovers. I also bought two beautiful art pieces featuring famous historical figures, a wonderful souvenir to remember this journey through time! If you’re in Izmir, don’t miss the chance to experience Agora Ören Yeri—a timeless treasure in the city's heart. The Agora of Smyrna dates back to the 4th century BC when Alexander the Great ordered the city of Smyrna to be rebuilt on Mount Pagos (modern-day Kadifekale). However, most of the remains visible today belong to the Roman period, especially after a great earthquake in 178 AD, when Emperor Marcus Aurelius funded its restoration. The agora was the social, political, and commercial hub of ancient Smyrna, where merchants, politicians, and philosophers gathered. Its monumental gate, basilicas, and underground water system highlight the city's prosperity. The graffiti found on the walls also give insight into the daily lives of people from centuries ago, showing their thoughts, jokes, and even love notes! Through wars, earthquakes, and time, Agora Ören Yeri remains a testament to Izmir’s rich history a place where the past and present beautifully intertwine.

I like that the museum only has two floors so it’s not too overwhelming. You can see everything in two hours. The building is beautiful and I liked the selection and mix of artwork displayed. It was interesting to see art works from ottoman era.

This gallery definitely has potential. With a good art curatorship, it might become much more appealing. Unfortunately, for now bad lighting ruins viewers’ impression of paintings.

There is an art and photo gallery of “Ara Guler” who is super famous turkish photographer in the world! You can visit until June 2020 and there is no charging! You can also take audio supporting, just ask to help desk at the entrance of the building when you pass the security. Building is not really good for following to steps of gallery. That was the problem for walking with huge crowded at the weekend. But maybe you can prefer to go in weekdays. Tuesday is open until 8pm.

Alexander Calder’s sculpture on İzmir’s First Kordon is a striking addition to the city’s waterfront, blending dynamic movement with monumental presence. True to Calder’s signature style, the piece features a bold, abstract form with delicate, suspended elements that sway with the wind, creating a mesmerizing interplay of balance and motion. Its organic curves and sharp angles echo both natural and mechanical influences, standing as a testament to Calder’s mastery of kinetic art. Positioned against the backdrop of the Aegean Sea, the sculpture transforms with the shifting light and breeze, making it not just a static monument but a living part of the landscape. This installation enriches İzmir’s cultural fabric, offering both locals and visitors a contemplative and ever-changing visual experience.

Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport’s domestic terminal is modern, clean, and easy to navigate. It’s not too big, so getting through security and to your gate is usually quick and hassle-free. Didn’t have to wait too long for my luggage either when I got here via my domestic flight. There are a decent number of cafés and shops, though food options can be a bit limited compared to larger airports. Seating is comfortable, and there are charging points available, making it a good place to wait for your flight. Overall, it’s a well-organized airport with a smooth travel experience, especially for domestic flights.

Big and modern. two problems: 1. the passport control section has become slow with long lines 2. the parking is confusing and not spacious enough
Diamond — Google review
It is a quiet and clean airport, with very relaxed vibes here. Not crowded when we were there. We flew in from Istanbul to catch a train to Selcuk. TCDD train station is just across the road from the exit and you need to cross the bridge to get there. There are a few options for car rental at the airport as well. Luggage collection for domestic flights on the ground floor, took a while for the luggage to be ready at the carousel.
Khal E — Google review
They actually charge you for a trolley to push your bags, after travelling for hours. Clearly no tourist will have their currency. The bathrooms are also an absolute disgrace. This place definitely does not have growth in mind. Also, absolutely no seating area while you wait for your international bags to arrive. Try to avoid if possible.

Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) in Izmir offers a truly modern and efficient travel experience. The architecture is bright, spacious, and very welcoming, making it feel far less stressful than many larger international hubs. Passing through the domestic terminal, in particular, is a breeze; the check-in and security processes are quick and handled by courteous, professional staff. The facilities are maintained at an exceptional standard of cleanliness. I was also impressed by the seamless transportation options, specifically the direct İZBAN rail link, which makes connecting to Izmir's city center incredibly easy and convenient. From its thoughtful design to its overall efficiency, ADB is a top-tier airport that significantly enhances the travel experience in the Aegean region.

Monument of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. It’s large concrete bust, but it looks like it’s carved in the stone of that mountain / hill. It is located in Buca district in the city of Izmir. The Alliance of Baptist Churches in Turkey houses a remarkably preserved church with exquisite stone architecture that stands out amidst the neighborhood. The accessibility of the church in Buca district is convenient, and it's fascinating to witness a non-Muslim place of worship where religious statues and paintings have remained unchanged. Although one hasn't had the chance to explore its interior yet, they plan to seize the first opportunity. This church offers a pleasant spiritual ambiance that is appreciated by many visitors.
The church is so well preserved, both inside and out. the stone architecture is so special amid the neighborhood. the church is very easy access in the Buca district. i was thinking religions other than muslim are forbidden, nice to see a church with their statues and paintings all remain its original form.
