Leuven is a historic university city known for its beautiful Gothic architecture, including the ornate Town Hall and the imposing St. Peter’s Church on the main square. Home to KU Leuven, one of Europe’s oldest universities, the city has a lively student atmosphere with plenty of cafés, bars, and cultural events. Compact and walkable, it also makes an easy base for day trips to Brussels and other Flemish cities.
With favorites like Raffat, Sint-Donatus Park, and Dewerf, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like De Valck and DONKI so you can get the best taste of Leuven while you’re here. Leuven Oude Markt is a lively and vibrant town square in Leuven, Belgium, known for its bustling atmosphere and picturesque surroundings. The square is adorned with charming open-air bars and restaurants housed in ornate gabled mansions, creating a delightful setting for visitors to enjoy shopping, dining, and nightlife. During the academic year, the population of the area is largely comprised of students, resulting in an abundance of cafes and student deals at restaurants.
Little gem of a town of the standard tourist track, with lovely medieval streets and plenty of cafes/bars/restaurants in the centre. Head out towards the Begijnhof to experience some really old cobbled streets that seem to be untouched by modern standards

Beleuvenissen was so amazing, will definitely come here again. After that everyone was partying in de pubs up until 6 am. Incredible vibes, 5stars

I visited Oude Markt in Leuven and was instantly charmed by its lively vibe. With terraces filled with people and historic buildings all around, it truly feels like the heart of the city.
Ruben K — Google review
The Oude Markt in Leuven (Belgium) is one of the city’s most famous landmarks and gathering places. It’s often nicknamed “the longest bar in the world” because the entire square is lined with cafés, bars, and restaurants, one next to the other.
Jelena R — Google review
Lively spot in the center of Leuven. The Oude Markt is full of terraces, cafés, and great energy at any time of day. Perfect place to meet friends, grab a drink, and enjoy the local atmosphere. Always something happening here.
Cris S — Google review
The place is phenomenal. Cafe places are crowded, but they are very lovely. You can find everything over there: cafe places, restaurants, fast food, bars.. etc. It is better to walk around.. don't rely on a car because some streets are very narrow and cars are not allowed there. If you are looking for history, entertainment, and fun time. This is the best place

Restaurant
De Werf is a laid-back eatery located on a quiet square near the center, offering small plates, salads, chowders, wraps, and pasta along with beer, coffee, and wine. It's known for its affordable and diverse menu. This Babbel en knabbel cafe provides a perfect setting for chatting and munching. The restaurant offers various breakfast options ranging from petite to royale as well as thermos with filtered coffee and petit beurre taart.
This cafe is amazing, in the summer they have a huge terrace, in the winter they have a cozy inside bar. The food is also really great for the price. Really the best price quality place I’ve been to in a long long time in Belgium. We took a lot of duvels, the leek pasta and a filled bread. Will come here again. (Especially for the quality and the low prices )
D G — Google review
Very tasty meat chowder with bread. Generous serving. Mostly young ambiance. Just wish tap water was served for free :) Recommended!
Susovan P — Google review
We ordered two wraps. While my partner enjoyed the wrap, I didn’t. The plate, on which my food was brought, was dirty. It didn’t make my meal pleasant. The drink was far too basic for being home made and 4 euro’s (store juice). The homemade lemonade is just water with a little lemon juice in it. The price for the amount of food was decent. It’s really a place for students, which makes the atmosphere lively and fun. The outdoor setting is also spacious. We enjoyed the vibe of the place, but not the food. Just manage your expectations for this place.
Diana S — Google review
Nice atmosphere and friendly vibe. The onion soup was really good, but I didn’t love the meatloaf with cherry sauce and the chowder with meat balls and chicken. Overall, the food seemed good quality, just not all to my taste.
Ali K — Google review
The staff were incredibly kind and friendly. The young waitress who served us even asked where we were from, and we chatted for a bit. The portions are huge, and please don’t be put off by the presentation – my husband got his stuffed bread in a plastic container with a lid, we received our tortilla on a plastic tray, and the salad came in a plastic bowl. Despite that, the food was delicious and excellent. It feels like having lunch at your grandparents’ house.
Tereza F — Google review
The outdoor seating was a great feel. Went there after reading good reviews about the place and I was not disappointed. The portions were adequate and decent price. Definitely recommended.
Wanderlust W — Google review
A restaurant & cafe located in a small square & frequented by scores of students from the local university. It has a vibrant and energetic atmosphere which makes the place great for a quick bite or drink. The servers, who seem to be students as well, are friendly and helpful, and the food was good. There is some indoor seating, but all the action takes place in the large outdoor area that spills out toward the center of the square. If you're touring Leuven this is a great spot to soak up the local atmosphere, and if you want to sit outside when it's cold don't worry - they give you blankets!

Amazing place to eat and drink. Excellent beer and food choices and ridiculously cheap! Staff were absolutely amazing and really friendly and knowledgeable. I will visit this place every time I come back to Leuven.

Restaurant
Domus is a renowned establishment in Leuven, offering a diverse menu and an impressive selection of beers, including their own brews such as Con Domus and Met Domus. The restaurant is known for its relaxed atmosphere, making it suitable for business discussions. It's a popular choice among families due to its quick service and traditional Flemish dishes like stooflees and vol-au-vent.
I really enjoyed the experience here at Domus, thanks to the beautiful and cozy interior, all wood and brewery-mood. We ordered the Domus-beer meatballs + fries and chicken fillet with mushroom cream, everything was delicious and the size of the dishes was huge! The staff was super kind and spoke perfect English. Prices are average compared to other similar restaurants in Leuven (a bit higher with respect to Italy). I recommend this place for a nice typical Flemish dinner in Leuven city center.
Emy P — Google review
A brewery that has been around long enough to be considered an institution in town. The decor is classic tavern style, cozy and warm. They brew their own beers and also offer a wide variety of bottled ones. The food menu includes their famous pasta, along with local dishes, many of which use their beers in the recipe. The spaghetti Bolognese comes in a large bowl and is surprisingly satisfying. Their recipe is not classic but somehow it's tasty. A great place for a beer and comfort food.
Li L — Google review
Domus was a great «brauhaus» to visit and dine in, especially since it was both dark, cold and rainy outside during out visit. The venue is the polar opposite of the outside we were in - warm, charming, relaxing and inviting! Their meals are hearty, filling and tasty and their very own homemade beers are also a plus. All in all was Domus a great visit, the food was generally quite good and the venue nice and the workers friendly and chatty, but it was hard to get ahold of them, it could sometimes be quite noisy and some of ours foods lacked some flavor and aroma. Still, Domus is a great place for a hearty meal.
Anders W — Google review
Came in for an early lunch while killing some time on a Sunday waiting to check into my room. Had the Domus beer sampler (Pilsner, Brown, and Strong White), along with the Flemish Beef Stew with a small salad and fries.beer and food was good. The bar/restaurant was spacious, the atmosphere good, the service was very friendly. I'll probably be back to try some other beers, and also their wings that others have recommend in other reviews.
Rj R — Google review
Amazing food and the service was spectacular. Our server was very nice and spoke very good English. The Kwak Bier was very good
Alexander L — Google review
We tried their beers, Belgian dinner plate for two and mussels, it was great. Location is perfect, service as well.
MT M — Google review
We ordered multiple dishes, for the starters the Shrimps garlic butter was delicious, the salad with cheese mozzarella was nice, the fried potato was okay. The main dishes i had filet which was very dry i couldn't eat it, the spaghetti was decent, the hamburger was also a bit overcooked. The cream brulee dessert was not good also. The drinks and cocktails were good. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the location is good in city center, we didn't enjoy the food that much.
Waseem H — Google review
This restaurant is huge with so many rooms and levels with an outside area but you can’t reserve it online. Had a great Flemish stew and their own beer. All the food was good and came quickly. The waiters on the other hand were spread thin and took forever to get served. I’ve been here in different seasons and it’s the best place in town to eat.

Saint Peter's Church in Leuven is a striking Romanesque church with an unfinished bell tower and ornate pulpit. The church features art by Dirk Bouts, including the famous Last Supper painting. Despite suffering damage during World Wars, it remains an impressive sight to behold. Adjacent to the town hall, this iconic landmark offers free entry and provides a glimpse into the city's rich religious and artistic history.
I was truly impressed by Saint Peter’s Church in Leuven. Its stunning Gothic architecture, magnificent chandeliers, and the beautiful sculptures and paintings inside create a breathtaking atmosphere. A must-see for art and history lovers!

Beautiful church in a beautiful city. Although the the inside is decorated a bit frugally compared to other churches, it still awes you with its majestic architecture and size.
David D — Google review
Leuven’s biggest cathedral and a nice place to visit while you’re in the town center. No ticket needed and while it’s cold outside this can also be a sanctuary if you’re looking for a little bit of warmth. That beside the point, the artworks and collections are quite amazing. There’s a dungeon that act as another praying room.
Cita W — Google review
Nice Church to visit in Leuven. Located near Grote market and Town hall. Entry is free and bus stop is very near to the church.
Shubham M — Google review
The origins of Sint-Pieterskerk (Saint Peter’s church) date back to the 10th century. Construction of this Brabant Gothic church continued through the 15th century with its towers used as a municipal belfry. Its belfry is part of the collection of Belgian belfries recognized by UNESCO. The interior is bright even on cloudy days thanks to the white colored walls and many large windows. It is free to enter the church.
Nanita — Google review
The Saint Peter’s Church is definitely one of the most important places to be in Leuven. You will find here the famous paintings of Dierick Bouts, medieval flamish artist from the 15th century. What impressed me most in on one side the medieval church with its uncountable numbers of arts and the long history behind the city of Leuven and on the other side the artificial intelligence driven guided tour allowing you to be part of the history. Don’t miss the tablet tour of Dierick Bouts! I hope that this cutting edge technology will be just the beginning of guided tours and will be further extended to more and more artists, painting and installing in this church. I do strongly recommend the guided tours offered by the tourism office. The guides are well educated, with a lot of historical knowledge and the educational background needed.
Michael S — Google review
This imposing church is so impressive that even if wasnt at its prime locations, will be easy to find. Once entered you will be well rewarded seeing the inner beauty, you can wander into the peace and quiet admiring the ornate interior Definitely worth a visit

Fell into Leuven and this beautiful, elegant church. So impressed and a lovely fresh and light take on religion rather than some of the heavy and ornate churches. So lovely. The carved pulpit is a work of Art in itself.

De Valck is a renowned restaurant known for its specialty in serving delectable mussels with various flavors such as garlic, bacon, white wine, and even spicy options. While slightly pricier than typical student eateries, it remains a top choice for those craving moules-frites. Visitors can also savor the flavorful Flemish oven-baked stew offered at the establishment.
Absolutely gem of a Belgian restaurant. This will be my new standard to go to when in Leuven looking for classical Belgian dishes. The horse steak was sublime. Service impeccable, and atmosphere cosy as it should be. Can only recommend.

Great Belgian restaurant. Highly recommend. Host was super welcoming and made recommendations for food for aussies that want to try Belgian dishes. Matched us some beers to go with the food and helped entertain our 2 year old at times so we could relax a little. Real gem of a place. Loved it. The hostess was so fabulous.

The best steak I've ever eaten. I've had the privilege to enjoy some really, really good steaks, but this one, accompanied by the must luscious Roquefort sauce, was absolutely beyond anything else. You just have to try. The mussels were also of superior quality and finding a place that can deliver both on such a high level is just incredibly rare! This is not just a restaurant this is treasured institution.

If you are in Belgium, mussels and fries are a must!!! This is a nice place to have dinner. There are so many combinations; white wine, garlic, cream, leek, and so on. You can mix them and have it your style. You should try the soup as well. It’s a shame I couldn’t eat them all. It was a large portion for me. Staffs were very welcoming and kind :) It is a nice place to visit with family or friends and quiet.
Gaby — Google review
I have worked in some of the finest restaurants and am very hard to please with certain things, especially mussels. I chose the leek cream sauce and I must say these were the BEST mussels I have ever had! The staff was incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful, which can be hard to find at times in certain parts of EU. Kudos to the staff!
Allison D — Google review
WORST spot I’ve been on my visit to Leuven! The recommended beef tartar was over priced low quality ground beef. The mussels looked just as unappealing. It’s a skip for me
Rachel G — Google review
Overpriced classic Belgian food. Prices advertised on online menu are not correct. The mussels were on the smaller side and had sand in them, that's disappointing after the hype. The kip fillet provincial was ok to be honest, fills the stomach and good. Their puree is yummy. Nothing wow but rather its ok.

Honestly, it's rare to find good quality food served with care for the customer. I really enjoyed it . The prices are quite good too (bang fr the buck). There's a very cute guy working here...👌😍

The tacos were amazing! They also had a Chicken tinga option which was delicious and is very rare in most other Mexican eateries. The staff was very polite and helpful. The establishment itself is a bit small, but great for take aways and deliveries! The flavours were simply amazing. Would recommend for anyone who enjoys Mexican food!

Great tacos with fresh ingredients and tasty flavour. The seating area is quite big and the staff are very friendly and quick service
Lefteris K — Google review
So we had a burrito bowl with carnitas and hot salsa and a burrito with barbacoa and Pico de gallo. Food was average at best in terms of flavour. Hot salsa wasn't really hot. Both carnitas and barbacoa also lacked any flavour, tasted more like just boiled meat. In fact only overwhelming taste both of the burritos had was the taste of sour cream which it was very generously doused in. Also the drinks (lemonades) were served in their plastic bottles. It's not a cafeteria, it's a restaurant! I wouldn't recommend it as a mexican restaurant. However it's not a bad choice if you are looking for a generic salad bowl.

Been here several times. Good atmosphere, food is quite good, although pizza is a bit burnt. The main point for improvement is the service. Sometimes they put a basket with bread and butter on your table, and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they forget to bring you your beverage.

Really nice pizza with an amazing homemade tomato sauce. The staff is very friendly, the ingredients are fresh, the service is super fast and the dough is very tasteful. The pizzas are not very expensive, but if you go for the wine, prepare to pay 20/30 for a bottle, good italian wine though.

Raffat is a newly opened dining spot located in the heart of Leuven, offering a modern take on Pakistani cuisine. Owned by cousins Usman and Massab, the restaurant pays tribute to Raffat, Usman's mother, who was known for bringing family and friends together through her passion for cooking. The warm and homely atmosphere created by the hosts ensures a relaxed experience for every visitor.
Absolutely delightful dining experience! The beautifully designed interior, complete with cozy decor and soft lighting, set the tone for a fantastic evening. But what truly made our night special was the thoughtful presentation of each dish, carefully served with stories and explanations that brought the flavors and ingredients to life. The staff's passion for the food and its heritage was palpable, making each bite a truly memorable experience. The cocktails, like the Mango Tango, Afterglow were a perfect blend of sweet and tangy, absolutely refreshing! Although L.A.M.B didn't quite live upto my expectations. Be sure to book ahead, as the restaurant can be fully booked!

This is a modern authentic Pakistani restaurant 👌 with hands-on providing a classy menu combined with the modern test of traditional Pakistani food that suits the international market. Simply speaking, everything you eat and drink here has the touch and blessing of the mother who was the founder of the restaurant and the journey continued with her sons who are a consistent and generous example of how their business should continue with the mother's blessings. I'm not gonna tell more and let your imagination work until you come here and enjoy the real experience. Superb and highly recommended 👌

What a joke. We waited three weeks for a reservation, thinking we were in for something special. What we got instead was a masterclass in overhype and under-delivery. Between four of us, we ordered around 8 to 10 dishes — not a single one was worth remembering, let alone recommending. I’ve eaten a lot of Pakistani food — homemade, street food, hole-in-the-wall joints — and this was not it. The biryani? A crime. Doused in tomato paste like someone confused it with pasta sauce. The sabzi? Steamed vegetables in a watery red sludge masquerading as curry. Offensive to actual Pakistani cooking. This place hides behind a story and some theatrics, hoping you won’t notice the food is bland, basic, and bizarrely overpriced. Strip away the smoke and mirrors, and you’re left with food that belongs in a budget buffet — not on a pretentious tasting menu.
Sonam J — Google review
We both had a delicious cocktail and went for the vegetarian side of the menu card. The presentation and taste of the dishes were perfect. A great culinary experience. The service was good and the ambience, interior with open kitchen and overall atmosphere were great. The restaurant was full and we had to book 3 weeks in advance. There’s obviously a reason for that!
Bregt V — Google review
Nice and cosy place. Yes it is a bit crowdy because everybody loves it but the tables are just the right size to share the lovely food. We tasted a bit of the vege and the other Pakistanese tapas and each one is delicious, even the dessert. Funny names for the food and drinks as well. Recommend it to all. Will definitely revisit.
Dirk B — Google review
Cosy and beautiful! This restaurant serves Pakistani cuisine with a modern touch. As someone who is familiar with these flavours, I can tell you that the restaurant has done a fantastic job in keeping the flavours bold, fun and real. We had their signature set menu which had starters, main course and desert. The restaurant is doing a great job with their cocktails too and it’s definitely a must try. Overall the food and drinks were flavoursome and well plated. The ambience is tastefully done and it just elevates your dining experience The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and is ready to help you with the menu. They are well organised and I would highly recommend making a reservation before you visit as the place is always packed. Thankyou Team Rafat! 😊

Good place with nice atmosphere. Great cocktails. Some dishes are amazing, some are underwhelming, especially for the price. I hope they’ll change their menu more often: I went a second time two months later and I couldn’t taste anything new, since you order almost all dishes on the menu when you’re with a group. I also felled quite stressed eating there because the staff expects you to be finished in not much more than an hour and a half. When paying this price I’d rather take my time. 3.5/5

Over time, it has evolved into a diverse display of plants and flowers. The garden features a tranquil Sunken Garden where students often study amidst the peaceful surroundings. Amidst the bustling city, this garden offers a serene escape for visitors seeking relaxation and natural beauty.
Beautiful green oasis in the center of Leuven. I really loved the big sequoia tree and the wisteria trees. There were some amazing smells of the flowers also. We just spent some time here walking around and taking a break on some of the benches here

A beautiful and serene escape from the city. The garden is well-maintained, with a wide variety of plants, flowers, and peaceful walking paths. I especially enjoyed the calm atmosphere and the chance to take some lovely photos surrounded by nature. A perfect place to relax, breathe, and reconnect with the natural world. Definitely worth a visit!

I was here during autumn so lots of the plants were not blooming but it’s still such a nice place to just sit and enjoy the views. No ticket needed as it’s free and you can also see people just jogging around it. Perfect place to contemplate.

Superb botanical garden and very jealous of the space. We saw alot of exotic plants and trees and super well kept. Highlights were the Musa, oranges, kumquat and the turtles. If you’re closeby, its worth visiting. There are toilets available (clean), wheelchair accessible and a small information center with some booklets. There is bicycle parking in front of the entrance.

Groot Begijnhof Leuven is a serene and well-preserved quarter with a rich historical background. This UNESCO World Heritage site boasts charming cobblestone streets, peaceful gardens, and well-maintained buildings that once housed a religious women's village. The vibrant Ladeuzeplein nearby is a hub of student life and cultural activity, featuring the striking Totem sculpture and the university library. The stunning St.
It’s such a historical location which really worth going. Full of red-bricked buildings. It seemed entering to another world. Just walk through those little streets and almost forgot the time. We just walk here amd there and took many nice pictures. This is a really amazing area. I really enjoyed the time spending there.
Gin C — Google review
We’ve been living in this residence for a few years now. I must say, if you’re visiting Leuven, you absolutely shouldn’t miss Groot Begijnhof. Its historical architecture is truly mesmerizing. Every street reveals different houses and glimpses of past lives. Recently, some infrastructure work has been taking place in part of the area, so if you’re planning to visit during the summer of 2025, be aware that some entrances are closed and walking around the church might be a bit difficult.
Açelya Ç — Google review
Incredible walking experience there. There was some renovation done in some part of area but in general it’s a very enjoyable experience with exploring the small aisle and looking at the old buildings. I was there during weekday so it was pretty quiet.
Cita W — Google review
Beautiful and peaceful place in the heart of Leuven. The Groot Begijnhof feels like stepping back in time with its quiet cobblestone streets, historic houses, and calm atmosphere. Perfect for a walk, some photos, or just to disconnect from the city noise. A must-see in Leuven.
Cris S — Google review
I strolled through the Groot Begijnhof in Leuven and instantly felt its centuries-old charm. As I entered through the main gate, those traditional sandstone buildings and winding cobblestone lanes made me feel like I had stepped back in time. Each house, some with striking crow-stepped gables and tiny old windows, reveals layers of history and story. The peaceful courtyards and scenic river views added to the atmosphere. This restored “town-within-a-town” is a unique place and quiet yet full of character, offering an authentic glimpse into Leuven’s past and the life once led by its beguines.
Ruben K — Google review
The Groot Begijnhof in Leuven is a beautifully preserved 13th-century beguinage and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once home to religious women called beguines, it features cobbled streets, red-brick houses, gardens, and stone bridges over the River Dijle. Restored in the 1960s, it now belongs to KU Leuven and serves as housing for students and professors. It’s a peaceful quarter perfect for a quiet walk through history.

It’s a breathtaking testament to history and architectural grandeur, buildings of Gothic and Renaissance styles. It can be called as the hidden place of Leuven. Not much crowded place. Good place to have some memories.

Würst is a restaurant in Leuven that offers a unique take on traditional German sausages. The industrial interior and innovative concept have made it a success. They offer a variety of options, including an XL version of their Greek dog, Caesar dog, and Chili dog. The Chilli Dog is highly recommended, featuring a juicy sausage with spicy chili, melted cheese, and guacamole. The restaurant also offers vegetarian options for all items on the menu.
The food was very good, and the service was also excellent. I enjoyed being able to see them grilling the barbecue—it smelled and tasted delicious.
Sookhee L — Google review
Extremely average food. If you arent picky and you just want something easy, this is a nice spot. But.. It seems they are overcompensating for their lack of attention to the meat by overloading their buns with toppings and sauce. If the sauces were better, the toppings better balanced, then I would give a higher score. But I could easily get something of equal quality for half the price from a grocery store. The interior is modern and the staff very friendly.
Hollanda T — Google review
TL;DR I’m celiac and went for the gluten-free options but the buns & fries made in a shared convection oven with gluten-containing items, so the bowls are the safest option. I went here yesterday to try the hot dogs and I ended up having a delicious meal, however I was a bit disappointed initially because I couldn’t actually get the haute dogs with a bun or the fries. They seem knowledgeably about celiac and the mostly the whole menu can be made gluten free, however the buns and fries are made in a shared convection oven (which circulates air, and thus gluten) with gluten/containing buns, etc. This is unavoidable for the buns because they have to cook from frozen and that can’t be done on their grill. At first they didn’t realize this and did say it’s safe, but as soon as I mentioned it about the fries, the staff went out of their way to tell me that the buns are prepared the same way so I could make a decision to not get it, I appreciated that a lot! They do have a separate grill and ingredients, so I ended up getting a Caesar bowl which was delicious and I didn’t get sick. Personally I’m more careful so I didn’t trust the buns and fries, but it’s up to you and your tolerance. I really hope they can get a separate method for the gluten free buns and fries so we can enjoy them safely too!

The Historic Leuven Town Hall, located on the Grote Markt, is a stunning example of 15th-century Gothic architecture. Adorned with spires and 236 sculptures representing local scholars, artists, and nobles from the city's history, it stands as an iconic sight in Leuven. Despite surviving wars and even a WWII bomb that failed to explode, the town hall remains an impressive symbol of resilience.
The Royal Palace of Brussels (Palais Royal de Bruxelles) stands as a prominent landmark in the city and serves as the official palace of the Belgian monarchy. Situated in the heart of Brussels, it faces the Brussels Park (Parc de Bruxelles). While it is not the royal family's residence—they live in the Castle of Laeken—the palace hosts official state functions and events.
Onur O — Google review
This building is certainly one that has impressed me the most while visiting Leuven. It is centre of Leuven. Leuven's Town Hall is the historic city's pièce de résistance. Moreover, it's one of the best-known Gothic town halls worldwide. It took three architects and thirty years to build it. Leuven's 'Hall of Fame' features 235 statues, which were only added to the facade after 1850.
Shubham M — Google review
A beautiful building in the center of Leuven with 235 statues to admire. It’s a must see if you are visiting Leuven. There are daily one hour tours in Dutch and English and on the weekend in French. In these tours you visit the interior of the building while learning about the history. The cost is 4 euros and you can buy tickets in the tourist office around the corner. Starting in September 2024, this building will be closed for renovation until 2029. So if you want to take a tour, I would recommend doing it now!

Spectacular building with a Flemish Gothic façade, although the remains of Leuven's first town hall, built in 1439 and located on the main square, are no longer preserved. It has been destroyed and rebuilt three times in the last hundred years, the last time after the Second World War. On the outside we can see 236 statues, all of them of important figures in the history of the city, arranged by floors: on the ground floor we find academics and artists, on the ground floor religious figures, on the first floor members of the nobility and finally, at the top of the towers, scenes from the Bible are represented.

Highly recommended, especially over the neighbors! I went back twice for the Bouillabaisse, which was creatively presented and very well flavored! The rabbit stew was also excellent. They serve great peanuts with your drink. Great location in the city center and central square. Service can be a little inconsistent, but that should not detract from an overall excellent experience!

I had toast champignon for lunch and it was copious and delicious. Not too creamy as it was topped with parmesan cheese. Nice salad on the side as well. It was kinda pricy but they used different kind of mushrooms, so I guess for this location it wasn't exuberant. The interior wasn't More-inspired, but Winter themed, which was very cozy. The working cuckoo clock was a nice attribute.

Very friendly staff. We were very late and close to closing time, but we still could place our order for a beer. Thank you. So we went back in April 2024 and got the same fine treatment, plus terrace heating till closing time... which was in the early morning hours. You can't hardly leave this place. Toilets were spotles and with napkins! Gratulations!

Super delicious, definitely will come back again!! For vegetarian dishes, I don’t want some fake vegetarian burger or whatever, just cook the vegetables in the way how they originally taste. Here they made it.

We love Lukemieke and it is popular amongst locals. No-nonsense and very sincere service, we like the two hardworking ladies/cooking goddesses of the house, and the cute daughter of one of the chefs. Healthy and delicious, soulwarming food. We always feel good and fulfilled when we leave. This restaurant is consistent in its decent quality. Point of advice to newcomers : if the front is full of reservations she often still has space in the back. If you get seated it is up to you to go get a little glass bowl filled with appetizer. She will then come to take your order. I always take the soup and dish of the day/‘dagschotel’ which is available in either small or big portion. Don’t even get me started about the pies - they are absolutely delicious.

Fine dining restaurant
Taste, located on Naamsestraat, is a top dining venue with a convivial atmosphere and stylish surroundings. Chef Bart Tastenhoye's love for seafood shines through in the menu, which features creative fusion dishes and surprising flavor combinations like eel with cherry and wasabi. As a member of NorthSeaChefs, he exclusively selects fresh catches from the North Sea. The restaurant offers an innovative experience for food enthusiasts who appreciate originality.
My friend & I recently had a dinner here tried the 6-course option accompanied with matched wines. The food and service were fantastic. Each dish was nicely presented with optimal gap time between serving each of them. At the end we had a chance for a nice chat with Bart (The head chef) and found him and his wife very lovely people! Overall this place is highly recommended!

Must go. Creative, non traditional, surprising. This chef is not just a true food artist but also passionate about hospitality. Do try the menu with the "small" glasses recommended wines (when you decide on more than 4 courses), they know what they are doing. In this place, they first choose the wine and then the chef creates a dish to accompany the wine! And he delivers, every course is a surprise. Must go!

This restaurant was a fantastic find on our trip to Leuven. The interior design is very calming and interesting. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable about the wine and the food. The food itself was inventive and delicious. The drink pairings were excellent: full wine pairing, half glass wine pairing (bob), a beer pairing and a non-alcoholic pairing which is very unique and much appreciated. We had a fantastic evening here; the food was enhanced by the friendliness of the people and it made for an unforgettable night in Leuven. Enjoy the festival guys!

Amazing restaurant. We had the 6 course menu with accompanying beers and wines. The food was good, and my personal favourite was the langoustine. I liked the vibes of the restaurant as it's not too stiff and the staff is really easy going. The somelier was really knowledgeable about wines and I loved the mini ice-cart at the end. The cheese desert came with a huge cart and they created one big plate for us to taste all the cheeses available which were procured from the local cheese master Elsen. The beers were a good change of the typical Belgian beers, rather they used European microbreweries such as La Source, Braxatorium and Hof Ter Dormaal. Personally I would like to see more options for the beers (e.g. lambiek sours for the cheese). But still overall pleasantly surprised there was at least the option of some good craft beers available. Just be aware that this quality comes at a steep price, but overall I think it was really worth it.

What a great restaurant!!! It's a super gem in Leuven. The restaurant itself is quite nicely decorated, and the vibe was very relaxed. The staff was super friendly and attentive, and they did their best to accommodate our needs and to describe everything in English to us. The food was also fantastic. The menu offered by the chef was delicious and with great combinations of ingredients. The wine pairing was excellent. Also the dessert was fantastic and they even surprised us with a cool ice cream at the end. Great experience and worth it. Definitely recommend it

Amazing food is one thing, and Taste really hits the spot here. But there's more: at Taste you always feel welcome, every member of the staff knows his or her role perfectly. The chef greets every table and explains his menu with passion. Flawless execution. Been here many times since the opening 1.5 years ago, and still consider this the best restaurant Leuven has to offer !

This very fancy restaurant is modern and classic at the same time. The staff is very friendly and sometimes even funny, which lightens up the entire mood. The food is of course great but surprising combinations and a very detailed visual aspect. Nice wines, bread in between meals, different types of dessert with your coffee and even before leaving the building... Small things that make this restaurant a lil different from others. You won't leave here with anything but to come back. Suprises everywhere and just a very nice evening for those who like to pay once in a time an abundance of money to have a culinary moment.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Taste restaurant, and I have to say it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. The owners were incredibly friendly and made sure that we were taken care of throughout the entire meal. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate, making it the perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a special occasion. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fantastic meal and excellent service. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special night out.
