Abbey
Cultural landmark
Park Abbey, located just south of Leuven in Belgium's Flemish Brabant province, is a well-preserved 12th-century abbey complex that offers guided tours and a museum showcasing religious art and artifacts. The museum houses an impressive collection of religious artworks, manuscripts, and medieval sculptures, providing insight into the region's spiritual and artistic heritage. The abbey grounds span 42 hectares and feature pathways, ponds, meadows, avenues of trees, and farmland for visitors to explore.
Honestly such a beautiful park with lots of scenery. We didn’t go in the abbey but we enjoyed the views from the outside and enjoyed a nice walk around the lakes and garden.
Becky M — Google review
If you live somewhere close to Park Abbey, you should definitely visit it. Especially in spring it is very beautiful and you can smell the odor of the flowers everywhere. By just walking around, you will find peace here. There is enough area to play games, to run and to do other fun activities.
Tarlan O — Google review
While the current expo wasn't really my cup of tea, that's no fault of the museum or even the talented artist/curator of the items. The audio tour of the abbey itself was very cool.
Terri M — Google review
Beautiful museum with a few very nice rooms. Especially some ceilings are spectacular plasterwork, which is like 3D paintings.
Tjeerd V — Google review
Really nice Abbey, wonderful garden and in the Abbey a really warm welcome from the guide.it was very nice he took the time to explain the current situation of the Abbey.to bad there where lots of works everywhere.the restaurant is a little overpriced but hè the parking is free. Absolute worth a visit

A hidden gem! Beautiful Abbey, graveyard, and surroundings. A quieter, more contemplative experience for the discerning explorer.
Tracy B — Google review
Park Abbey in Leuven is an absolute gem! 🌿 We often come here for walks, and every visit feels special. The combination of beautiful fauna and flora with the stunning, historic abbey creates a truly picturesque setting. What makes it even more impressive is that the abbey is still actively used for ceremonies, which adds a sense of authenticity and life to the place. The surroundings are full of treasures too — there’s a fantastic restaurant nearby where you can enjoy a delicious meal after your walk, and the farmers’ market with fresh local products is a real highlight. 🥖🍎 Don’t miss the museum either: it’s beautifully curated and gives you a deep appreciation for the history and culture of the abbey. Whether you come for peace and nature, history and architecture, or great local food, Park Abbey has it all. Highly recommended — one of Leuven’s most magical spots! ✨

PARCUM in Leuven is a fascinating museum dedicated to religion, art, and culture, offering a unique perspective on the spiritual heritage of Flanders. Located in the peaceful Park Abbey, the museum beautifully combines history with thought-provoking exhibits. Its rotating themes encourage reflection on contemporary and timeless issues. The serene surroundings enhance the experience, making it ideal for those seeking inspiration or tranquility. A hidden gem for art and history lovers in Belgium!

Groot Begijnhof Leuven is a serene and well-preserved quarter with a rich historical background. This UNESCO World Heritage site boasts charming cobblestone streets, peaceful gardens, and well-maintained buildings that once housed a religious women's village. The vibrant Ladeuzeplein nearby is a hub of student life and cultural activity, featuring the striking Totem sculpture and the university library. The stunning St.
It’s such a historical location which really worth going. Full of red-bricked buildings. It seemed entering to another world. Just walk through those little streets and almost forgot the time. We just walk here amd there and took many nice pictures. This is a really amazing area. I really enjoyed the time spending there.
Gin C — Google review
We’ve been living in this residence for a few years now. I must say, if you’re visiting Leuven, you absolutely shouldn’t miss Groot Begijnhof. Its historical architecture is truly mesmerizing. Every street reveals different houses and glimpses of past lives. Recently, some infrastructure work has been taking place in part of the area, so if you’re planning to visit during the summer of 2025, be aware that some entrances are closed and walking around the church might be a bit difficult.
Açelya Ç — Google review
Incredible walking experience there. There was some renovation done in some part of area but in general it’s a very enjoyable experience with exploring the small aisle and looking at the old buildings. I was there during weekday so it was pretty quiet.
Cita W — Google review
Beautiful and peaceful place in the heart of Leuven. The Groot Begijnhof feels like stepping back in time with its quiet cobblestone streets, historic houses, and calm atmosphere. Perfect for a walk, some photos, or just to disconnect from the city noise. A must-see in Leuven.
Cris S — Google review
I strolled through the Groot Begijnhof in Leuven and instantly felt its centuries-old charm. As I entered through the main gate, those traditional sandstone buildings and winding cobblestone lanes made me feel like I had stepped back in time. Each house, some with striking crow-stepped gables and tiny old windows, reveals layers of history and story. The peaceful courtyards and scenic river views added to the atmosphere. This restored “town-within-a-town” is a unique place and quiet yet full of character, offering an authentic glimpse into Leuven’s past and the life once led by its beguines.
Ruben K — Google review
The Groot Begijnhof in Leuven is a beautifully preserved 13th-century beguinage and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once home to religious women called beguines, it features cobbled streets, red-brick houses, gardens, and stone bridges over the River Dijle. Restored in the 1960s, it now belongs to KU Leuven and serves as housing for students and professors. It’s a peaceful quarter perfect for a quiet walk through history.

Saint Peter's Church in Leuven is a striking Romanesque church with an unfinished bell tower and ornate pulpit. The church features art by Dirk Bouts, including the famous Last Supper painting. Despite suffering damage during World Wars, it remains an impressive sight to behold. Adjacent to the town hall, this iconic landmark offers free entry and provides a glimpse into the city's rich religious and artistic history.
I was truly impressed by Saint Peter’s Church in Leuven. Its stunning Gothic architecture, magnificent chandeliers, and the beautiful sculptures and paintings inside create a breathtaking atmosphere. A must-see for art and history lovers!
Uğur A — Google review
Beautiful church in a beautiful city. Although the the inside is decorated a bit frugally compared to other churches, it still awes you with its majestic architecture and size.
David D — Google review
Leuven’s biggest cathedral and a nice place to visit while you’re in the town center. No ticket needed and while it’s cold outside this can also be a sanctuary if you’re looking for a little bit of warmth. That beside the point, the artworks and collections are quite amazing. There’s a dungeon that act as another praying room.
Cita W — Google review
Nice Church to visit in Leuven. Located near Grote market and Town hall. Entry is free and bus stop is very near to the church.
Shubham M — Google review
The origins of Sint-Pieterskerk (Saint Peter’s church) date back to the 10th century. Construction of this Brabant Gothic church continued through the 15th century with its towers used as a municipal belfry. Its belfry is part of the collection of Belgian belfries recognized by UNESCO. The interior is bright even on cloudy days thanks to the white colored walls and many large windows. It is free to enter the church.
Nanita — Google review
The Saint Peter’s Church is definitely one of the most important places to be in Leuven. You will find here the famous paintings of Dierick Bouts, medieval flamish artist from the 15th century. What impressed me most in on one side the medieval church with its uncountable numbers of arts and the long history behind the city of Leuven and on the other side the artificial intelligence driven guided tour allowing you to be part of the history. Don’t miss the tablet tour of Dierick Bouts! I hope that this cutting edge technology will be just the beginning of guided tours and will be further extended to more and more artists, painting and installing in this church. I do strongly recommend the guided tours offered by the tourism office. The guides are well educated, with a lot of historical knowledge and the educational background needed.
Michael S — Google review
This imposing church is so impressive that even if wasnt at its prime locations, will be easy to find. Once entered you will be well rewarded seeing the inner beauty, you can wander into the peace and quiet admiring the ornate interior Definitely worth a visit

The Historic Leuven Town Hall, located on the Grote Markt, is a stunning example of 15th-century Gothic architecture. Adorned with spires and 236 sculptures representing local scholars, artists, and nobles from the city's history, it stands as an iconic sight in Leuven. Despite surviving wars and even a WWII bomb that failed to explode, the town hall remains an impressive symbol of resilience.
The Royal Palace of Brussels (Palais Royal de Bruxelles) stands as a prominent landmark in the city and serves as the official palace of the Belgian monarchy. Situated in the heart of Brussels, it faces the Brussels Park (Parc de Bruxelles). While it is not the royal family's residence—they live in the Castle of Laeken—the palace hosts official state functions and events.

This building is certainly one that has impressed me the most while visiting Leuven. It is centre of Leuven. Leuven's Town Hall is the historic city's pièce de résistance. Moreover, it's one of the best-known Gothic town halls worldwide. It took three architects and thirty years to build it. Leuven's 'Hall of Fame' features 235 statues, which were only added to the facade after 1850.
Shubham M — Google review
A beautiful building in the center of Leuven with 235 statues to admire. It’s a must see if you are visiting Leuven. There are daily one hour tours in Dutch and English and on the weekend in French. In these tours you visit the interior of the building while learning about the history. The cost is 4 euros and you can buy tickets in the tourist office around the corner. Starting in September 2024, this building will be closed for renovation until 2029. So if you want to take a tour, I would recommend doing it now!

Such a beautiful city hall, happening square. Especially great in winter with Christmas lights. Preferable to go at-least once and to keep in your bucket list.

Spectacular building with a Flemish Gothic façade, although the remains of Leuven's first town hall, built in 1439 and located on the main square, are no longer preserved. It has been destroyed and rebuilt three times in the last hundred years, the last time after the Second World War. On the outside we can see 236 statues, all of them of important figures in the history of the city, arranged by floors: on the ground floor we find academics and artists, on the ground floor religious figures, on the first floor members of the nobility and finally, at the top of the towers, scenes from the Bible are represented.

Historical place
Arenberg Castle, located on the banks of the river Dyle in Leuven, is a 16th-century castle that was renovated in the 19th century and is now part of a university campus. The castle has a rich history dating back to the 12th century when it served the lords of Heverlee and has been associated with nobility throughout its existence. Today, it houses the Faculty of Engineering of KU Leuven University.
It is so beautiful, and perfect place but it is such a pity that we forgot about public holiday and the castle was closed.
Vasila T — Google review
Superb surroundings and views, beautiful historical building. Nice gardens. Inside of the castle only 4 rooms to visit (guided tour mandatory because building is still on use for the architecture school of the University), with only paintings of the 2 historical owners families. No added value at all. Go and see the outside and the gardens.
Patrick M — Google review
A little castle that’s in the middle of KU Leuven campus so you’ll see a lot of students around jt. You can take a quick look around because of its size and enjoy the park around there afterward.
Cita W — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous grounds and a beautifully maintained castle! I happened upon Arenberg Castle not knowing anything about it (was just blindly doing a walking tour adventure of Leuven) and was delighted when I found it! The university also uses these grounds so you can see students hanging out all over (watch out for the bikers all over, like the rest of Leuven).
Holly F — Google review
This is one of my favorite places to visit whenever I'm in Leuven. A magnificent piece of architecture, art and history. A very beautiful place. You can enjoy the Arenbergpark surrounding the castle. You can play games with friend or family. Great for a long walk. A must see for people visiting Leuven! I have lots of great memories here. I hope you also make some.

Arenberg kasteel is definitely a place I recommend to day travel to - or just drive pass and make a stop there. In front of the castle is a beautiful park in which a lot of people picnic. The whole area of the castle is a university campus and even the castle is used for lectures etc.. U can go into the castle and look into the lecture rooms and some projectrooms (not sure if thats allowed! but it was possible...) Definitely recommend!! Beautiful place to visit for a couple hours

M Leuven is an art museum housed in a building that seamlessly blends old and contemporary architecture, offering a unique experience in the heart of Leuven. The museum features an extensive collection of over 58,000 pieces spanning from the Stone Age to modern times, with a strong focus on late Gothic, Renaissance, and 19th-century art. Visitors can explore paintings and sculptures while enjoying views of the city from the rooftop terrace.
Great museum with an extensive collection which is now interestingly curated in themes, rather than strictly by period. I found this quite engaging and made for an interesting visit.
Christopher L — Google review
It was once the home of the mayor of Leuven and then the home of a rich family. Some interesting exhibits and classic paintings were displayed. It took about 1.5 hours to walk through. And there is a cafe inside the museum. You can enjoy the coffee inside the museum or outside anytime then get back to the museum. The ticket is valid for one day and re-enter as long as you keep the sticker and the ticket.
Gin C — Google review
Very nice museum!! It has a mix of different styles and times. Sometimes it was kind of confusing when walking around, because of this mix. It’s not really set up chronologically or categorically. The museum is also very interactive, here and there they had little stories to listen to and you were able to give your input on a possible discussion! There’s also a rooftop where you can go, which has a cool view over the city. Overall, it’s not very big, but it’s a lot of fun! Within a few hours you’ve seen everything. Downstairs there’s a cute little cafe where you can enjoy a drink with a small bite.
Jet R — Google review
While this museum may not be on everyone's "must-see" list, it does provide a pleasant art experience, especially if you have a museum pass (free entrance). Although it does not house any famous masterpieces, the museum successfully connects the past and present through meaningful thematic parallels. We especially loved the interesting temporary exhibitions featuring local artists. A tour lasts about 90 minutes, and the personnel was quite friendly and informative. Through their website or app you get access to a free audio tour. The museum also has a cafeteria, a small shop selling art-related books and souvenirs, and a stunning rooftop patio. Free lockers are available downstairs for your convenience.
Mario M — Google review
Great museum in Leuven to check out if you have time. The interior is very nicely laid out and looks like it was recently renovated or updated. The collection includes a wide range of pieces and has many works from Belgian artists. The museum is much larger than I expected and you could easily spend a couple of hours here. Keep an eye out on their website for free admission days.
Courtney C — Google review
This is a really lovely museum with lots of great art works from late‑Gothic art to contemporary exhibits. It’s both a tour guided and self-paced tour (if you so choose) with audio assistance so you get to really enjoy the experience and take in the works with much appreciation.

A nice exhibit with some permanent and some rotating art pieces. While some collections were great, some just lacked a meaning or beauty behind them. Most pieces were worth while so I would recommend visiting.

(Translated by Google) The statue was inaugurated on May 16, 1985. It was a gift from the tourist office to the city of Leuven, but an original idea of the Marktrock committee. The inauguration was attended by Maria Swerts, the then oldest Leuven Kotmadam and also godmother of the statue. Despite the amusing nature of the image, the Kotmadam initially evoked mixed feelings. For example, the figure depicted did not correspond to the typical image of a Kotmadam: old and full-figured. On the contrary, the Kotmadam on the Oude Markt is a young and attractive lady. Anyway, over the years the statue has become an eye-catcher and many people have already taken a seat next to her or on her lap.

(Translated by Google) A classic in the city center of Leuven. Its popularity is due to the soap opera 'De Kotmadam', which used to run on VTM for years and revolved around a sweet shop owner who rented out rooms to students, which is exactly what Leuven is all about: students! The statue also has a meter, no less than the then oldest kotmadam in Leuven: Maria Swets. The Kotmadam is located on the Oude Markt in Leuven, which is also known as the longest bar in Europe and you will certainly notice why from the afternoon until the early hours! The only disadvantage is that the statue is right between the cafes where there are always outdoor terraces surrounded by this and from the afternoon onwards it is no longer easy to take a photo undisturbed without it being uncomfortable because there is always someone looking strangely like 'look at those tourists' or there will always be someone in the photo because of this.

KU Leuven University Hall is located in the city of Leuven, which is known for being home to the largest and oldest university in the Low Countries. With a student population of 25,000 out of a total of 90,000 residents, it's no surprise that the city has a vibrant and youthful atmosphere. The university hall itself exudes historical charm and offers an affordable place for students to study.
The KU Leuven Inside celebration for the university’s 600th anniversary was truly special.

They lock the doors to the study hall/café before the official closing hours, which is very inconvenient. When I found the doors locked when I tried to exit five minutes before closing time, the staff member in charge rudely informed me that they "were already closed" and that I "made her life very difficult." What??? 🥴

Historical landmark
Located in the heart of the city, Jan Fabre's Beetle Totem is a striking 23-meter-high art installation that commands attention. The totem features a jeweled beetle impaled on a needle, creating an awe-inspiring sight in contrast to the traditional and historic surroundings. Created by renowned Belgian artist Jan Fabre, this monumental bug spans 2.7 meters and is suspended high above on a needle.
It was quite a memorable noodle stick in the middle of the plaza.
Kero C — Google review
It’s an interesting statue. And there was a morning market on Friday. I am not sure if the market would be there only or Friday or everyday. I was there at almost 12 noon and the market was almost closed. Only a few food trucks were left selling coffee, sandwiches, cheese, pickles, etc. what a pity I didn’t come earlier. It would be nice if I could enjoy my breakfast and coffee there.

7 euro for the ticket and you have to step to the top of the tower. So I give up.

this is a super great square, who changes within a day with different angles of sunshines on the pavings, by seasons with different events and festivals, sometimes crowded, sometimes left so peaceful

The scarab beetle, an artwork made by Jan Fabre is a totem (23 meter) It is a tribute to beauty, science and knowledge and therefore a connection with the university library. But it makes it rather difficult to take a nice picture from the important historical library and that's a pity.
Patricia S — Google review
Weird and cool to look at. We were confused by it as first but it was fun
Jennifer B — Google review
A nicely detailed statue of a biology beetle. Best seen from on top of the library. Please don't stick your head in the eye of the needle for a 'funny' picture... Students piss in there because they know you are going to take a 'funny' picture... Don't be 'funny'

Architectural Buildings
The Universiteitsbibliotheek en bibliotheektoren, also known as the University Library and Library Tower, is a must-see attraction in the city. The library's stunning architecture and vast collection of books make it a sight to behold. Visitors can explore the interior of the library and even access the tower for panoramic views of the city. The building has a rich history, having served three different universities over the years.
The library underwent severe bombings and damage during two world wars but re-built again. It is a mixture of the old and new. The clocktower gives you the best view over Leuven. The small photos and explanations on the sides of the top balcony tells you what each building is. The entrance is free to students and 7 euros for adults.
Uğur A — Google review
The Universiteitsbibliotheek en bibliotheektoren (KU Leuven library and tower) is worth a visit. The exterior alone is eye catching. To tour the library and tower, purchase tickets onsite, download the app to hear the audio guide (remember to bring your headphones / earplugs) and enjoying learning about the history of the historic landmark. Touring the tower includes at least 150 steps from the entrance to the tower up to the top. The ascent is broken up with information provided on each floor. Both the tour of the library and the tower is highly informative and includes the history of the library and the international ties that made the refurbishment of this historic landmark possible. For the visit, there are lockers for free for anything you are carrying with you are it is prohibited to enter with bags of any kind. Highly recommend. Entrance including tour of the tower was €8.
Nanita — Google review
The building is absolutely stunning from the outside. We paid €2 each for the student-rate library tour, which included entry to the room shown in the photos. However, access was limited to a small 2x3 meter area — we weren’t allowed to walk around or explore further. In our opinion, the library tour alone isn’t worth it, as everything you’ll see is already shown in the photos. The ticket also includes a mobile app tour audio, but unfortunately, it didn’t work for us. We didn’t do the tower tour, so we can’t speak to that experience. On a positive note, the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Louis W — Google review
You have pretty limited access to the library but it could be because the students are actively using them. The main attraction at least is to visit the tower. It’s not too high but you get a clear view of the city from the top.
Cita W — Google review
Beautiful library worth a visit even if not to read. It was rebuilt after the 1914 fire, but it still has beautiful wood panelling, large windows and huge industrial, early 1900 lamps. We visited when it was open to the public, otherwise visitors can enter the library by buying a daily card (5 eur?).
Ambra N — Google review
It’s worth a visit. It costs 8 euros for library and tower. Not much you can see at the library itself. After the fifth floor (289 steps) to get to the tower but the view is spectacular.
Nicole G — Google review
Super Leuven view. You shouldn’t miss this beautiful 360 degree view. Two remarks: it only pays back your energy invests when the sky is blue and sunny 😎. And secondly: Watch your steps! I do strongly recommend the guided tours offered by the tourism office. The guides are well educated, with a lot of historical knowledge and the educational background needed.
Michael S — Google review
While the architecture was great, the digital tour of the building and the library itself were awful. The tour app didn’t work properly and couldn’t detect where you are precisely. The tour itself was extremely short and had very little interesting points. As for the library, it was very tiny compared to the size of the building. It was quiet so it would probably be a good spot to do research etc.

Ladeuzeplein is an iconic urban square in Leuven, featuring a grand neoclassical-style University Library that stands as a symbol of resilience after World War I. The bustling hub is open to the public and hosts various events such as markets, sporting activities, and amusement parks. The square also boasts a unique landmark - a gigantic pierced beetle sculpture at its center. Visitors can enjoy free concerts during the summer months and explore the lively atmosphere of the Friday market.
If you are in Belgium for a few days and want to visit somewhere aside from the normal cities, I’d highly recommend this small city just 20 minutes always from Brussels by train. The Library is beautiful and you have the option of paying a little extra and can do the tour up to the bell tower. There you can learn a lot of history about this library and what is has been through. Unfortunately it was really foggy the day we visited so we couldn’t appreciate the sites but I’m sure there would be lovely to see from the top. Staff were very friendly and helpful too.

This was an amazing architecture. This is a Leuven University library. Tourist can enter the library to embrace the academic atmosphere. The wooden interior decoration seemed like the library from “Beauty & the Beast”. I really love it. And there was also access to the rooftop of the building. This neoclassical library is an interesting building. The bell tower is worth a climb, there is displays in the rooms as you go up. The library is in use and therefore silent, but well worth looking in on. There’s a good view from the top of the tower, with plaques showing the name of everything

The employees at Brico Brusselsstraat (Leuven) were very unprofessional when my partner visited to pick up a few items. We are not very handy with DIY and therefore needed some “basic” guidance. The employees were condescending, unhelpful and impatient with my partner when she asked these “simple” questions. She ended up having to video-call me and my friends for advice - we had to do your job for you. That reflects embarrassingly poorly on you. Terrible service in a branch from an otherwise decent brand.

The Catholic English Speaking Community of Leuven is a warm and inclusive church that welcomes everyone. The Mass is always a magnificent and joyous celebration, filled with a strong sense of community and numerous engaging activities. Despite its small size, it truly feels like home and is widely regarded as one of the most vibrant churches in Belgium. Daily Mass takes place at 6:00 pm, while Sunday Mass offers a beautiful liturgy at 9:00 am.
Well I was well received as a newbie at St Quintin by the Catholic English Speaking Community especially my fellow black people. Awesome

The Saint Quentin's Church or Sint-Kwintenskerk (in Dutch) is a Roman Catholic church located at the Naamsestraat in Leuven, Belgium. Its exterior is mainly Gothic with a Baroque entrance portal. The interior contains Baroque choir stalls and altars. The church is named after the Saint Quentin, who is regarded in the Catholic faith as a protector against a wide range of contagious diseases.

Like the name says, it's an English speaking community. Lot of international Catholics come here to fulfill their Sabbath obligation. There's a communal meal after the mass.

I lived in Leuven in 1987 - 1988 and used to join Misa at Sint Kwinten Kerk at 10:00 Sunday morning, I was 23 years old, KUL student at the time... from Indonesia. I wonder if this lovely Church is still open today. I plan to visit Leuven to join the Misa at this Church. It was Vader Reinhard van de Berg in my time there but to bad that I could not meet him when I visited Leuven with my wife... long years ago. I am now almost 60 years old and waiting a chance to visit Leuven again.

Sint-Geertruikerk is a stunning church located in the charming city of Leuven. It's definitely a must-visit when exploring this lovely destination. The church exudes an enchanting atmosphere, especially at night when the mood lighting creates a slightly eerie yet captivating ambiance. Situated near Klein Begijnhof, it is one of the notable churches in Leuven that showcases impressive architecture and rich history.
Beautiful church in Leuven. Worth a visit if you come across this lovely city.

Like all the churches of Leuven, this too is open only from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. Didn't get to see the interiors of the church. Would be nice if atleast if weekends its open for longer hours!

(Translated by Google) This historic church is located a short walk from the center of Leuven, and has a charming and calm atmosphere. The exterior is made of solid stone and has a strong presence, and once you step inside, the high ceilings and tranquility will make you feel calm. There aren't that many tourists, so it's nice to be able to explore the area at your own pace. There are canals and buildings related to the Beguinage nearby, so it's a great place to stop by while walking around town.

Situated on an otherwise unremarkable street, De Romaanse Poort, also known as the Romanesque Gate, remains as the sole surviving fragment of the Sint-Elisabeth guesthouse and originates from the period between 1218-1222. This historical structure serves as the headquarters for a youth center and also boasts a delightful restaurant/bar that seamlessly blends modern elements with its historic charm.
HQ of Youth center, also a very nice restaurant/bar. Historical build with a modern touch. Quiet place in the city center
