Virtue Feed & Grain is a trendy tavern located in an 18th-century granary along the waterfront of Union Street. The restaurant offers modern tavern cuisine in a stylish setting with exposed wooden beams and brick walls. The menu features a variety of dishes, from familiar favorites like crab dip and calamari to more adventurous fare such as wild boar chops and umami burgers.
This place is awesome! It has a nice atmosphere and the location is great! The food and the service were great also! They have indoor and outdoor seating. There is a bar as well. The lighting indoors was dimmed, so we sat outside. The restaurant sits down by the Potomac River. There are shopping and other food spots around also. Whether you're with family, friends, date, or whatever, it's a great place to grab a bite!

Came here for a date night and had a great time. The restaurant is in a great location in old town Alexandria, VA. There is street parking as well as garages near. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. We sat indoors upstairs at a table by the windows. It was a nice comfortable feel. We had a nice view of the park/water area below. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lively and the service was good. Our food and drinks came out quickly and everything was fresh and tasty. Also we came for an anniversary and the restaurant gave us a complimentary drink on them. That was unexpected but appreciated. There was plenty of options for food and drinks everyone can find something here. Overall id definitely recommend checking this spot out. Its definitely one we will come back to.

The meals we had - Rockfish and Shortribs - were the best we’ve ever had!! AMAZING! Not little meals - no - real meals and simply perfect!! We had the yummy drink special of the week and Clay (our server and new friend) knew more about bourbon selections -than the 6 of us will ever forget. The service - from initially taking drink and appetizer orders through dinner and after dinner drinks- was exemplary!! There seemed to be a team of bar, food and cooking staff that worked together as a family!! Highly recommend: drink special - you won’t go wrong -appetizer - brussel sprouts; crab dip Meal: Rockfish 😋🥳 Short ribs 😳😋 Three of us were HUGE @bartalk vans - after a private AMAZING Bourbon tasting!!! Thank you Tom Gale for the most special photo shoot ever!!! 🥰❤️🥰

Located in the charming Old Town Alexandria, Virtue Feed and Grain offers a delightful dining experience that captures the essence of the area. The atmosphere is wonderful, we sat outside on a gorgeous August evening. It’s the kind of place where you can easily settle in and enjoy a long, leisurely meal. The drink selection is impressive, featuring a variety of creative cocktails and a well-curated wine list. Each sip was enjoyable, and the drinks complemented the meal nicely. While the ambiance and drinks set a high bar, the food, unfortunately, didn’t quite reach the same level of excellence. Some dishes were flavorful but could have benefited from a bit more refinement. There were moments where the flavors didn’t fully come together, which was a bit disappointing given the overall quality of the restaurant. Despite this, the overall experience was enjoyable, and I appreciate the effort put into the atmosphere and drink offerings. I look forward to returning to Virtue Feed and Grain to see how they continue to evolve their menu. It’s definitely worth a visit for the delightful setting and good drinks!

Fantastic spot that gives off local vibes. We were able to get to the bar quickly but don't expect that to be the norm. Great food selection and the bourbon list is lengthy and well curated. Rotating cocktails keep things interesting and fresh.
Ray D — Google review
We had an excellent dining experience at the upstairs bar with Mac. She was extremely knowledgeable on all of the bourbons, cocktails, and menu. She made us several delicious cocktails, and we tried many different bourbons. The brussels sprouts and scotch eggs are a must try. I think my favorite thing that we had was the scallop and shrimp chowder, I believe it was a special, but it was absolutely outstanding!
Jeanine K — Google review
Food was fantastic, especially the mozzarella sticks. They have a good brunch menu. Nearby parking garage was much more expensive than necessary and place got packed after we arrived, so recommend getting there early.
Adam W — Google review
This place is super cool. The restaurant is beautiful inside. The menu has a little of everything. We ordered the fish tacos and the fish and chips. They were both amazing and nice portions. Everything tasted fresh. It’s a family friendly place. Our son enjoyed the chicken fingers. There’s plenty of street parking available.

Old Town Alexandria Waterfront is a charming riverside promenade with an array of bars, restaurants, and ice cream parlors. The historic Old Town Theatre, though no longer hosting performances, remains a beloved landmark in the city. Strolling along the waterfront at sunset offers stunning views of National Harbor across the water. The bustling streets feature shopping, dining options, cobblestone streets, and 18th and 19th century architecture.
Dynamic downtown with copious amounts of bars, restaurants, coffee shops and the like. If you need to take a breather to decompress, take a walk along the waterfront, where there are calming seas, ample greenery, and beautiful brick dwellings to add to the ambiance. All in all, a fantastic place for a stroll.

Great waterfront area with lots of cafes & bars. During the day it’s a quiet area for a walk but it really comes a live at night. If you have kids there’s some great ice cream places in Kings street just before you come to the waterfront area. The night I was there, a local boat club was out sailing and when the sun went down there were two very talented guys singing in the little park area with the Astro turf.

I always love this area. I always tell myself if I ever move back to the area I'm going to live in old town. Unfortunately the waterfront is currently flooded thanks to hurricane Erin 8/2025. But all the restaurants and bars not flooded seem to be open! I'm going to have to come back and shop during daylight hours

Love love loved it here. I can't wait to come back. I stayed at the Hilton on King Street, hopped on the FREE trolley, went to the Farmers market, and purchased some fresh Greek yogurt that was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS then got a yogurt drink from the Amish. The muffins from Zuzu was great! Even got something to help my Dog

Old Town Alexandria is hands down my favorite spot in the area! It has such a charming, historic vibe with tons of amazing restaurants and dining options for every mood. Plus, it’s super pet-friendly, which makes it even better for strolls with your pup. Perfect for weekend walks, good food, and relaxed vibes. Always a go-to for me!

Went to the Saturday farmers market and was not disappointed! The farmers and makers were approachable with unique, fresh produce. Being August I bought fresh peaches, corn on the cob (1$ each) fresh spinach and “sexy soup”. Aka. Gazpacho! Lucked out with on street parking( free) and beautiful weather! It was crowded( 10:00am) but still I was able to wander amongst the stalls and tables easily.

Waterfront Park in Old Town Alexandria is a picturesque spot located at the end of Prince Street, offering a variety of attractions. The park features statues and monuments, boat docks, walking trails, and seating areas. It boasts an open space for kids to play, a scenic bike/walking path along the water's edge, vibrant flower beds, towering trees providing shade, and a civic space showcasing annual artwork installations.
A truly wonderful place to enjoy the outdoors and connect with nature. The Torpedo Factory Art Center is a former naval munitions factory turned into an art haven, housing over 160 artists in 82 open studios. Visitors can explore and purchase a wide range of artworks including paintings, photos, mixed media pieces, sculptures, and jewelry. The center also offers free demos on Saturdays where patrons can watch the artists at work and engage in discussions about their creative process.
There’s 3 floors to explore inside the Torpedo. There’s different exhibition on each floors and the arts are for sale as well. The 3rd floor is like a little museum that showcases the history of Toledo factory, African American Waterfront Heritage Trail and some Archaeological stuff was on display too. You will enjoy visiting if you love artwork. Parking garage and street parking is available. No tickets needed for entry.

It’s free! There are three floors full of little shops displaying art work of various kinds taking up this whole building! We enjoyed how you can see the arts work space and watch them create. There’s a huge variety, but almost everything was very expensive in all the shops. Needless to say, but we didn’t buy anything but still had a good time walking and taking in all the artists and their work. Would recommend if you’re looking for an art piece or just killing time.

I have been going here for 25 years. I love it. Lots of bathrooms. Good air conditioning. Fun shops nearby. You have to see the glass aquariums the print studios and the views from the studios around the elevators are fantastic. We met the current president Edward Mccluney. The sun print artist has items that say torpedo factory that make good gifts.

A nice building at a gorgeous river front location in Alexandria, VA. Spacious, with a lot of cozy boutiques and art shops, creative studios and workshops. The only thing that is missing there is a talent. And this is a must for any art center. But it is definitely a positive influence, more like a community gallery and public exhibition space.
Pine F — Google review
This was unlike anything we have ever been to. The building is separated into private studios where each artist displays their work and you can purchase items. They had different mediums from beautiful scarves and hats to photographs to sculptures. We liked how unique each different studio was. Will definitely return on our next trip!
Jennifer M — Google review
This place is Really really cool. It is a massive creative space with 3 whole floors of art studios and artists making, Exhibiting and selling some truly spectacular works of art, all within a historical building where they actually used to build torpedoes. There’s some poetry in the fact that a place that once only created instruments of Destruction is now a place of creativity and artistic beauty. If you really like art, or are looking for something nice to get for yourself or as a gift to someone you care about I totally recommend checking this place out. Even if you end up just looking around and the pieces that are for sale are outside your price range you will still be glad you came. Support your local artist and come check this place out.

There were so many places showcasing stunning artworks and paintings, but one piece really stood out—a breathtaking snow mountain scene painted by a talented artist. 🖌️🏔️ Her work was so realistic, it felt like you could step right into it! The best part? All her paintings were bought by an admiring fellow artist. 🎨👏 What an inspiration!

Farmers Markets
The Old Town Farmers' Market in Alexandria, Virginia, is a delightful Saturday tradition that dates back to 1753, making it the oldest continuously operating farmers market in the United States. Every Saturday morning throughout the year, this vibrant market comes alive on Market Square in front of City Hall.
Situated at 301 King Street, right in front of City Hall, the Old Town Alexandria Farmers' Market is a historic gem and a Saturday morning staple for those who live nearby. Open every Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to Noon, rain, shine, or snow, this is not just a farmers market; this is THE farmers market! Holding the title of the oldest farmers' market in the country held continuously at the same site, it offers a unique blend of history and community spirit. You can stroll through the same market that George Washington sold his produce from Mount Vernon and immerse yourself in a tradition that dates back centuries. From the moment you arrive, the market's lively atmosphere draws you in. With over 70 vendors during peak season, there's a dazzling array of offerings including fresh fruits and vegetables, hot prepared foods, cheeses, specialty sauces, freshly baked breads, pastries and much more. Some of my favorite and regular places that I visit at the market are Coulter farms (which provides high-quality dairy goods, beef, granolas and more from an Amish farm), Baked by Yael (which offers delectable bagels and treats that are perfect for a quick snack as you browse) and Hog Haven Farm which is a crowd favorite (their breakfast sandwiches are so good, there's often a line, but it moves quickly and is worth every minute of the wait). Also I can't forget about MB Bakery On The Go, located along the back side of the fountain, it has a lot of real estate showcasing their variety of baked goods and famous homemade pop-tarts. Chocotenango Chocolate is also great (chocolates handcrafted from bean to bar). Bigg Riggs Gourmet Farm brings some of the freshest fruits and vegetables, and Farm Kettle Corn is perfect for a sweet and / or savory, crunchy treat. If you're looking for something for the home head to Lily Shoppe which sells natural soap bars that are aromatic and sweet, you can browse them while snacking on an Maracas Ice Pop (all-natural fruit popsicles) from the corner. They are a refreshing and delicious way to help keep you cool on these hot DMV Saturdays. There are too many great places to list here but it's a overall a great opportunity to support local businesses all at once! Live musical performances also add to the festive ambiance, making the market experience even more enjoyable (these performances seem to rotate every week). With many public bike racks close to Market Square, it’s bike-friendly too—just remember to bring your own lock as bikes (as well as pets) aren't permitted on Market Square during market hours. The Old Town Alexandria Farmers' Market is more than a place to shop; it’s a place to connect with locals and local businesses, experience history, and enjoy the best local produce and artisanal goods the area has to offer. It’s an essential Saturday destination that promises a delightful experience for everyone. Whether you're a local or just visiting, this market is a must-visit if you are nearby!

Fun Farmers Market with a large variety of produce and items I haven't always seen at a Market, including fresh pasta and seafood.

Large farmers market in the heart of old town Alexandria on Saturday mornings. Gorgeous fall day with an amazing array of apples, flowers, cheese, bread, pastries, veggies and more. Worth the visit for sure.
Bernard M — Google review
This farmers' market is located in Old Town, Alexandria. It offers several fresh items, including vegetables, fruits, flowers, cheeses, honey, and baked goods. Walking from one stall to another can be an enjoyable experience as you can explore what each vendor offers and people at the market are friendly. The prices at the market may not necessarily be lower than those at a supermarket, but you support your local community by purchasing from them.
Patrick M — Google review
Fantastic! Fruits, veggies, meats, fish, pastries and more. Lovely Saturday stroll in Old Town, great place to stop.

Jammed packed with great vendors. It’s a short walk around the square. You can easily create a favorite list of vendors. Delicious fruit, baked goods, great dairy products. I have much to explore. 🤙
Karinabel - — Google review
Extremely disappointed in my experience. The no dog policy is not well advertised online and signs are not easily visible at all entry points. I went for the first time with my small chihuahua and even though I was holding her I was approached by security and informed that vendors complained about my dog being present and that it posed a health risk. I have eaten at many fancy and elegant restaurant patios with my dog and have never heard of dogs being disallowed outside. I will not give business to this market. It was extremely crowded and disorganized anyway. I also saw a couple of cheese stands and was disappointed to see it was mostly prepackaged cheeses - not the experience I’ve had at other farmers markets. If I want prepackaged cheeses I’ll go to a grocery store.
Annie — Google review
Really disappointed to get here and learn they don't allow dogs. We moved from the Midwest to Maryland last year... Farmers markets were both much larger and more popular there and we loved taking our dog on cool mornings. He's well behaved and it's excellent enrichment for him as well as a great chance for us to support local farms and artisans. We really missed it, so we drove almost an hour to this market this morning only to be greeted by massive "Do Dogs Allowed" signs at every possible entrance. There were plenty of dogs loitering around the edges of the market, so it seems like we weren't the only ones surprised. It's really a shame for a dog-friendly city with one of the largest open-air DMV farmers markets to ban pets at that market.

Vola’s Dockside Grill and Hi-Tide Lounge is a spacious waterfront restaurant offering classic seafood dishes, fresh oysters, and house-made salt-and-vinegar crisps. The large outdoor deck and tiki bar provide stunning views of the Potomac River. The menu features a variety of seafood options as well as non-fish choices like fried chicken and burgers. With 60 seats on the outdoor patio, it's an ideal spot for dining by the Old Town waterfront.
Great place to grab a sunset dinner after a long bike ride! We dined outside on a very nice evening. Our server was super fun, professional, and enthusiastic to tell us about his favorites off the menu. I got the Crispy Shrimp Po'Boy which was a satisfactory portion size given the price. I felt it could have used more vegetables to balance out the fried food, but that's more of a personal preference.

Our server, Stephanie, was a joy as well. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave wonderful recommendations (it was our first time there). While we were there, we noticed the restrooms being cleaned, which is always nice. I highly recommend Vola's!

The food and service were like Whoa! EVERYTHING was treated well. The calamari had tentacles and rings, seasoned well with fried red peppers which worked! The blackened shrimp were HUGE, full of flavor, and were THE BEST I have had. NOW the SEABASS was AHHMAZZING, cooked to PERFECTION, and paired well with the Orzo. I opted to omit tomatoes and added spinach, FIYA! I don't care for cooked tomatoes! The seafood pasta was full of crabmeat in every bite, lots of scallops, and the sauce, was GREAT. The rigatoni was not evenly al dente BUT if u like al dente, u will love this! Oh, the hush puppies, MUST try!
Liz C — Google review
Great atmosphere. Even sitting inside it is easy to get a seat by the windows where you can see the water. Food was mostly very good. Crab hushpuppies used fresh crab and had a spicy kick. Crispy on the outside. Would get again. I also had the Blackened Salmon. Loved the Farro and tomatoes it comes with. The salmon itself had two issues; not blackened/seasoned enough and no skin. The fish still tasted good overall which is why this rating is a 5. Would be happy to visit again!

MUST GO TO VOLAS IN ALEXANDRIA! I was blown away by how delicious every single dish was! Excellent food and excellent service - the host was lovely, our waitress was awesome, the manager also checked on our table - top tier. We also got to enjoy a beautiful view. Highly recommend. The sea bass and grouper (catch of the day) were my favorite. Everything was scrumptious.

Love this place!! I've only been here twice, yesterday being the second time, the staff and management are so friendly and accommodating. I have a lot of food allergies and don't eat seafood or meat, and the 2 times I've been here they've made sure to double check on any sauces that may contain an allergen of mine, even crafted a cocktail for me with happy hour pricing because I'm allergic to all citrus fruits and mostly all cocktails contain some sort of citrus. Anywho, I'm writing this review, because yesterday I left my food (Veggie Burger & Fries), and I called today just to see if it could be replaced...I had no expectation but it was worth a try. The manager was so nice about it and even asked when would be a good time for me to pick it up!! The food is so fresh, the veggie burger is ACTUALLY VEGGIES and NOT a beyond or impossible burger....which is rare these days!! Literally will come here just for this veggie burger and the service!! Thank you again for being so accommodating and friendly, I really appreciate it. (I wish I could remember the bartender's name from my first visit and my server's name from yesterday....they deserve a mention BY NAME)

Food: toooooooo salty! It was not only my dish, we had a group of 4 and all of us got super salty food. Service: our server had runny nose. He was not using any kind of tissues. He was just cleaning his nose with the same hand he was serving us food and drink. I won't mention his name but he knows himself. Atmosphere: the only good side of this location in nice weather is the atmosphere. In general for about $300 we spent here, I was expecting better service (cleaner) and food quality.
Hesam S — Google review
The atmosphere is warm and right next to the pier. There are a great many places to sit between inside and outside. The Food: Fried Calamari (6/10) - This tasted pretty good. The reason I give it 6/10 is because the ratio of Calamari to vegetables was way off. A little too much veggies. Oysters (9/10) - These come with 4 different kinds of Oysters from different places. Salty but in a good way and full of flavor. Vola's Eggs Benedict (7.5/10) - I enjoyed the potatoes that came on the side very much. The bread for the benedict was decently buttered and the eggs were perfectly poached. The ham was a tad bit chewy but otherwise decent. Watermelon Arugula Feta Salad w/ Crab Cake (8/10) - Watermelon was juicy, almond slices were super complimentary but could have used a bit more feta. Strawberry Candied Nut Salad (9/10) - Fresh strawberries, fresh greens, the candied nuts were not overly sweet and the dressing was drizzled on perfectly.

No doubt the flavors there are delicious but the 3 stars is for the price of the cone like 18$ for kids cone, even though it had 2 big scoops and I was surprised 2 see these 2 scoops on a kids cone but i was more surprised after i paid. Just ask about prices before ordering!

Kimani was super nice and helpful. She even recommended ice creams I might like based on the one I sampled. Will be back to this location!

Best Ben & Jerry’s I have ever been to. Mikael, the worker who gave me my ice cream was so patient with me. I couldn’t decide which flavor to try so I sampled just about all of them. He was so understanding and even told me about his favorite flavor, half baked. In the end, I went with his recommendation. Great service, great ice cream, and great people. 5 star experience. Thanks Mikael!

If you’re visiting old town Alexandria you need to stop by this ice creme spot! It is a staple for old town and has been there before I was born (I’m almost 30). You’ll be greeted with a friendly staff and you’ll get some of the best ice creme around. It’s great for kids or even for the boys after a couple drinks. James recently helped me out when I was there and made the experience even better with his great attitude and love for the job.

Brittany is absolutely incredible! From start to finish, she was professional, attentive, and truly went above and beyond. Her positive energy and genuine passion for what she does made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. She was not only knowledgeable but also took the time to listen and understand exactly what I needed. I felt supported every step of the way. If you're looking for someone who is reliable, detail-oriented, and just an all-around amazing person to work with, Brittany is the one. I couldn’t recommend her more highly. Five stars all the way! 🌟 definitely coming back!!

Chadwicks is a neighborhood bar in Old Town Alexandria with English pub decor and a relaxed ambiance. It's known for its American-style seafood, Southern classics, and varied menu featuring dishes like salmon BLT, buttermilk fried chicken, and black bean burger. The restaurant offers cozy nooks for couples, spacious booths for families, and a handsome bar area. Chadwicks prides itself on serving simple yet quality-made cocktails with an emphasis on customer experience.
First time here. Atmosphere is nostalgic of a quaint pub. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The blackberry hard cider was excellent. Got the buttermilk fried chicken the first night (yes I took a bite before taking the pic) the bacon gravy was out of this world. Liked it so much we went back the next night. The owner remembered us and was super friendly and welcoming. French dip was also very good. He even gave me bacon gravy for my fries. Thank you for making this trip memorable with amazing food and hospitality. Will definitely be back when visiting again. There will be a next time for sure. Also, it is down by the waterfront so you can see National Harbor from outside. We watched the fireworks for a bit on the 3rd.

Haven't been to Chadwick's in ages but glad to see this water side restaurant still holds up. We were there for their happy hour special, and the burger and fries hit the right spot! Probably some of the best fries I've had in a restaurant in a very long time. The burger was thick, juicy and was cooked to perfection. We had plenty of seating at the upstairs bar and didn't have to wait too long to be served. Definitely coming back to try more of their happy hour bites, plus they're all you can eat crab legs on Wednesday nights.

The food here is solid, but not mind blowing in anyway. Service left a lot to be desired, the manager did have to come and get our order because the servers were all busy. However, our food did come pretty quickly and everything matched our order. Layout is not the best (the front door is the only way servers can get to the outdoor seating). It is confident and close to the waterfront and seems like they have a lot of seating if you have a larger group. Solid, but probably wouldn’t be my first or go-to option.

I just went to Chadwick’s for brunch and loved it! The food and service were wonderful. They have a great variety of savory/sweet brunch food, mocktails, and cocktails! The fried chicken and French toast is a must! Also, the ambience is so cozy and fun!

It's time to grab lunch. I scoped out a few places but I noticed this place has fried green tomatoes on the menu. My tastebuds were tempted so I popped in. I sat at the bar and the vibe was comfy, relaxed with sports on all of the televisions -- a good thing! I needed a jump start so I had a Red Bull. Then I ordered fried green tomatoes to start. I like that they cut them in manageable slices sitting on top of bacon jam topped with a mild jalapeño foam. Yum, tasty! I was given hot sauce to try on the tomatoes and, yep, it is really is Damn Good Sauce -- fo' sho!! The sauce added a slight heat and was a good compliment to the tomatoes. So I was torn between shrimp and grits or French toast. I had both of them by asking for a side order of French Toast. Okay, I know the French Toast came with syrup but the whipped butter had a sweet, cinnamon taste that I did not use the syrup. As for the shrimp and grits it was a good portion. It had bacon and caper sprinkled in that those flavors elevated the dish. To top it off I splashed some Damn Good Sauce on it. By now I was getting full at this point so I made sure to eat all of the shrimps. I enjoyed the presentation and textures of each delish dish. I was told the Damn Good Sauce is made locally so I will buy some soon, yum! Overall it was good food and friendly service.

If I could give a zero I would! I came to visit family in virginia from Australia and they had raved about your restaurant and food so I was super excited. Got there at 12:30 sat outside in the sun had our server get us drinks and the starter fried green tomatos then took 30 min to come out. She came back out 15 min later to tell us there was a huge table inside and it would be longer than expected. She didn't take the dirty plates or offer any more drinks. I went in to go to the bathroom and the place was empty besides that one big table and she was sitting down with the host doing absolutely nothing. When our 2 mains did come out it was ond of the kitchen staff from the side ally not even our server and we had to ask him to take the dirty plates. No one even gave us the bill my twin sister had to go in and ask. Still our server was no where to be found. I love the service in the us and canada and im happy to tip even though its not the culture in Australia but this was appalling and we should have just walked out no one would have even noticed. Please if you cant have great service on a slow day what is it like when its busy. Don't go mid week in fall.

What a fantastic hidden gem in Old Town Alexandria! We loved the "spooky" festive Halloween decor that really drew us in, but also the food was fantastic! Will definitely be back as we had a great experience. We loved the Brunch offerings. Tip: do yourself a favor and order the Fried Green Tomatoes - you won't regret it!

Seafood restaurant
Chart House is a high-end chain restaurant known for its seafood and steakhouse offerings, set in an elegant environment with scenic views. The iconic waterfront eatery hosts a happy hour on weekdays, featuring appetizers, draft beers, wine, spirits, and cocktails at discounted prices. With full glass windows providing panoramic views of the Potomac River indoors and a relaxing waterfront patio for outdoor dining, guests can enjoy their meals in a picturesque setting.
While visiting Alexandria from San Antonio, TX, we stopped by the Chart House for lunch with the family. It was a beautiful day, so we opted to sit on the patio with a lovely view of the river. The service was excellent, and the food did not disappoint. The guys also decided to try the fresh oysters, which they thoroughly enjoyed. We each ordered something different, and there were no complaints from anyone. Next time we’re in Alexandria, we’ll definitely be back!

We came on a Friday late afternoon (5:20), seats were available, we even were able to use the Happy Hour menu (see picture)…great food at bargain prices…if you can make it early enough….highly recommend! By the time we left, there was not a seat available and the place was buzzing…our server Franklin was still learning, but, he did a great job…the food was really good, the proximity to the Potomac was perfect!

This was my first time at Chart House, and the atmosphere was simply perfect. The service from my waitress was excellent (Meliza) —she was very attentive and had such a lovely personality. I had the chance to try the shrimp and lobster pasta, along with a refreshing drink that she recommended. Everything was absolutely delicious. I will definitely be coming back in the future! Thank you Meliza!!

I believe the restaurant has far more potential than is currently being realized. Despite having empty tables, there weren’t enough staff available. The food was decent, while the desserts were rather underwhelming. The service lacked the elegance and professionalism one would expect.

Get together weekend brunch. Party of 4 ordered kimchee calamari-crunchy and so good-and hummus with pita bread- amazing sharing plate for starters. Entrees included trout with orzo, cheese steak with au jus dip and ahi tuna salad.Excepting the handheld which was quite smaller than usual overfilled cheese steak and on the bland side, the other dushes were delicious and generous. Dessert was a tasting dish of 3 creme brulee of vanilla, strawberry and blood orange flavors-all creamy and crunchy delights. Indoor seating included river view, modern furnishings. Wait staff friendly and attentive. Kitchen responsive to dietary request.

Dinner at Chart House was everything we hoped for and more. We had a reservation and requested the table by the window overlooking the water—it was absolutely beautiful. Watching the boats drift by and the sunset reflect across the harbor added a calm, almost magical backdrop to the evening. It felt like the perfect setting for a relaxing and memorable night out. Our server, Charles, was fantastic from the moment we sat down. He was warm, professional, and genuinely attentive throughout the night. One of us doesn’t eat pork, and Charles was incredibly helpful—he pointed out which dishes included pork or pork-based ingredients without us even having to ask. That kind of awareness and care made the experience so much smoother and more enjoyable. He clearly knew the menu well and made sure we were taken care of without ever being intrusive. We started with the Kim Chee Calamari, which was a bold and delicious twist on a classic appetizer—crispy with a kick of spice and that signature kimchi flavor that made it totally unique. We also shared the Oyster Sampler, which came out beautifully presented and incredibly fresh. Every oyster was clean, cold, and full of that perfect briny flavor you hope for. For entrées, we ordered the Sea Bass, the Lobster Risotto, and the Savory Shrimp Pasta. The sea bass was flaky and buttery, served with the perfect blend of sauces and vegetables to bring it all together. The lobster risotto was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor—hands down one of the best risottos we’ve ever had. The shrimp pasta lived up to its name—savory, comforting, and loaded with shrimp. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and beautifully plated. Charles checked in at all the right times, always making sure drinks were full, the pacing of the meal was smooth, and that we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. His service was top-tier and truly elevated the evening. We couldn’t leave without trying their famous hot chocolate lava cake. It takes a bit longer to prepare (about 30 minutes), but it’s 100% worth it. The rich, molten center paired with vanilla ice cream was the perfect ending to a flawless meal. Overall, Chart House impressed us on every level—from the stunning waterfront location to the high-quality food and exceptional service. Charles deserves a special thank-you for going above and beyond to make our night seamless and special. We’ll definitely be back—and we’re definitely asking for that same table by the water.

We stopped here for a midweek lunch. It was not busy at all, but it still took like 10 minutes to be seated. There was something going on with the hostess and eventually one of the waiters came and sat us. So that was weird. But our server was great. Very personable. The food came out quickly and looked appetizing. Taste wise, it was good but really nothing special. All in all, it was a nice lunch, but I’m not in hurry to return.

Day 2

North side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the north side side of town. Start the day off with Potomac Yard Center, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Gadsby's Tavern. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Nestled along Jefferson Davis Highway, Potomac Yard Center is a vibrant shopping and recreation hub that has been delighting visitors for over two decades. This one-stop destination boasts an impressive array of big-box stores, popular restaurants, and even a Regal Cinemas for movie enthusiasts. Shoppers can easily find everything they need without the hassle of searching through multiple locations. The center features well-organized shops like Michael's, where you can discover fantastic finds in a tidy environment.
Potomac Yard Center is a great shopping destination with a wide variety of stores and dining options. Whether you’re looking for big-name retailers like Target, Best Buy, or Marshalls, or grabbing a quick bite, everything is conveniently located in one place. The parking is ample and easy to navigate, and the center is well-maintained. It’s a convenient spot for running errands or spending a leisurely afternoon shopping. The area is also close to public transportation, making it easily accessible.

Bizarre shopping center. Don't even bother going if you're not driving. Stay on the train and keep rolling to Pentagon City. This whole place literally turns its back on WMATA's adjoining Metro station, with no rear entrance to many key anchors. Hike or bike out to the trail along the highway on the other end of the carbrained strip mall, and you wind up having to hike through the mud or jump a hedgerow to get back in towards the restaurants. Utterly misable development. Gotta wonder why locals on wheelchairs haven't sued it into the dirt.

This shopping center has been revamped and is still going through some renovations. However I was able to get some banking done, return items to TJ Max and grab some Oatly Oat Milk from Amazon Fresh. So very convenient with plenty of parking.

The trolleys should come with warnings about how far you can take them. No, I wasn't trying to take them away, but I needed to push them for a considerable distance within the mall before our Uber arrived.

Restaurant
The Birchmere is a barnlike music performance space with a supper club-style main hall and a bandstand area. It's known for hosting legendary country and bluegrass performers in an intimate setting where audience members can get up close to their favorite artists. The venue offers shared tables where patrons can enjoy sandwiches, burgers, and pitchers of beer while watching the show.
A great intimate venue. They do serve food that is good and reasonably priced. A couple of points to note. The doors open at 5:00 for a 7:30 show. At 5:00 when the doors the box office gives you a number. At 6:00, they will start calling the numbers in order from 1. When your number is called you show your tickets and are allowed into the seating area. Once in, you may sit at any open seats. This is when you may order food. Because of the use of issuing numbers, folks arrive early and line up outside. If you want to sit up close to the stage, arriving as early as possible and getting in line is necessary. We got there by 4. Also of note, only electronic tickets from Ticketmaster are accepted. Screen shots will not work. Finally, it is a large parking lot but does fill up. A number of folks did use ride shares but the rideshare drivers have to enter when the majority of traffic is going the other way. Definitely a great intimate venue but best to know what to expect.
Alan B — Google review
It's a good venue to see a show, but you need to be aware of how the seating works. 1st, when you get there, they give you a ticket with a number, then near show time, we will start calling the numbers in order over the loud speaker. That's how you enter, but from there, it's still general admission, so once inside, it's a mad rush to your choice of table/seats. It's kind of crazy. While waiting for them to call the numbers, there is a large area with a full bar. Once seated, you can order more drinks, and they have a full menu. We found the food to be ok, kind of tasteless, really. I asked my waitress about the fish and chips, but she said they were a hit or miss and try to steer people away, so I got the chicken tenders. This was our second time here. We enjoy the venue, they seem to get a good line up. Music sounds good. Only real issue is since you are sitting at long tables, you may have to look over your shoulder to see the stage or even have to turn your chair around. Some people also talk quite a bit during the show. We've enjoyed ourselves both times, even with the little annoyances. Staff is friendly and pretty prompt. No glasses of water only purchased bottles.

Went to The Birchmere to see Tweet and we had an amazing time. It is first come first serve seating. Bar in the lobby while you wait. Drinks were on point and food was good! Great customer service! It was my first time there and I will definitely return.
DeWanna T — Google review
This is a nice concert venue. They regularly have great music perfomers, and you're able to see them in a more intimate setting rather than at a large auditorium or arena. The venue sells food and drinks that you can consume during the show. They also have a gift shop if you're interested in getting a souvenir. I recently saw the Ohio Players perform there, and it was a good show. We were able to park on site for free.
Sharon K — Google review
First time here. Old warehouse turned concert-food venue. Drinks up front great, strong and cold. Food good, drinks inside so-so, and the show great.
Thomas W — Google review
We've been to The Birchmere a couple of times and enjoyed ourselves every time. This concert right here was one of the absolute best. Maysa was on fire!!!🔥🔥🔥
Carla B — Google review
You need to arrive early to get a line number, which is the order they let you in to get seats. The show started at 7:30pm and there were people already there at 3:30pm getting their numbers (I asked the people at my table what time they arrived since they were the 2nd group to be admitted). You see, 99% of the audience members were old retirees that were able to go early because they don’t work. The age of the audience also resembles the age of the venue itself. This place is a bit dumpy and run down — it desperately needs a renovation. I wouldn’t take anyone younger than 40 here for a date night. If your date is 50+ then they’ll fit right in. The food was overpriced for the quality. The seats in the music hall and the food reminds me of Sizzler’s. The fact that servers come out in the middle of the show, walk in front of the stage while the artist is playing their most popular song, and INTERRUPTS YOU to hand you a bill and take the bill is such an awful design. Have people pay for their dinner right when they ordered it or better yet, modernize and just have a QR code that’s tied to their table number and have them order and pay at the same time. I guess the latter would be too much for the type of audience that attends.
S T — Google review
We go there a lot. Their food is really good. One of my favorites is the blackened catfish. I usually get it. My husband got one of their flatbreads. The reason I love going there is the acoustics are great. Plus it's one of the few places that brings our favorite jazz performers

Brunch restaurant
Vermilion, located in Old Town, Alexandria, is a trendy spot known for its fresh New American fare and wine pairings. The restaurant sources ingredients from local farms in Virginia and neighboring mid-Atlantic states, offering a farm-to-table dining experience. With a formal dining room showcasing a three-course tasting menu and fancy bar bites like catfish sliders and arancini downstairs, Vermilion provides a diverse culinary experience.
Went for our anniversary, had an amazing experience. We did the tasting menu which was phenomenal. Came with a few chef’s extras Huge portions, we were stuffed. They also brought us some cake pops to celebrate and some champagne at the beginning. The only thing I’ll say was that it’s a smaller menu with only a few main course options, and we weren’t told that the fish was sold out until we tried to order it, leaving us with only meat and veggie-only options. Everything was delicious, though!

Delicious food, casual relaxed atmosphere, implacable service. It was our first time here, we opted for their prefix menu, they call it “farm-to-table menu” I think. There was a nice mix of appetizers, a reasonably sized entree and a few other amuse-bouche bites. Every dish has an interesting, yet excellent twist, with a good mix of complimentary flavors and textures. Like figs & blue cheese, fried oysters and anchovies, etc. The short rib entrée was delicious, complimented with roasted peanuts and perfectly charred, slightly crunchy broccoli rabe. It’s a bit useless to share specific items we had, since menu is seasonal and ever changing, but I will add pictures.

I enjoyed a nice dinner at Vermilion after traveling for 12 hours due to weather delays. Im not sure if it is my extreme hunger or my love of unique restaurants, but I definitely enjoyed my dinner here. I had the New Frontier Bison Flank Steak and enjoyed every bite. The unique combo of red sauce with beans accompanied by medium rare bison and some small slices of goat cheese were an enjoyable experience. The gentleman behind the bar was a retired Marine and complete professional. I thoroughly enjoyed my time and I believe that you will too.

Vermilion is an excellent date night spot with excellent food and service! My husband and I had dinner here for the first time and were seated upstairs. It was dimly lit for intimacy and charming Edison lights strewn about the ceiling made the dining area feel dreamy. Our server, Evelyn, was exemplary with describing the menu, the restaurant, and with her service - she was so kind! Everything was delicious and plated so beautifully. I was so happy to see they had a mocktail section and enjoyed a 'Persephone's Return', a bubbly drink with pomegranate syrup. My husband got the crispy oysters and I got Bettie's buns to start. The buns were SO soft, and the flaked salt on top contrasted incredibly with the whipped sorghum butter. Our main courses were equally impressive. The goat cheese cappellacci was al dente and delicious - the cheese was bright and "goaty", the squash so cute, and the pomodoro sauce was so good I scraped the plate! My husband loved his short rib and commented how tender it was. We split a strawberry rhubarb buckle; it was not too sweet at all, the lemon verbena was nice and sharp to contrast the sweet oat streusel. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and look forward to future dates at Vermilion!

When the weather is nice, this is the place I want to be. Living in old town can be a bit noisy but this little park helps me enjoy a bit of nature and it's a quite a treat too! The landscape is so well kept, there are plenty of benches to sit on, many trees that offer shade when it's really hot and sunny out, and the "trail" itself is nice to get your exercise on too. It's kind of a combination of being both a park and a dog park without the actual dog fence in place - I think it would be nice to have an official dog area in place but they do have a dog fountain for dogs to replenish themselves. My boyfriend and I LOVE to picnic at this park and while it does get busy during the nice weather - it doesn't take away the beauty at all. It's a very pleasant and hip area where you will find both families and friends of all ages hanging out - even on summer nights! Old town is charming altogether, but this is one of my favorite places to be for sure.

Fine dining restaurant
Bar
Gadsby's Tavern is a historic American eatery that was frequented by notable figures like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams. The establishment, which has been in operation since 1770, offers a unique dining experience in colonial-style rooms. Visitors can dine by candlelight and savor menu items such as Peanut Soup, Hot Smithfield Ham Biscuits, Gentlemans Pye, and Georges Favorite.
If you're looking for a historic authentic experience, this place is a must. The outside of the red brick building caught our attention, and we decided to try. Inside, there was the Colonial charm. We sat down in one of the side rooms. Our waiter was quick and attentive. I had the prime rib with mashed potatoes, and my wife had lamb chops. The food was delicious. As it started getting darker outside, there was a warm, dark ambiance to the room. It felt like stepping back in time. The place is a must if you're visiting Alexandria, a place that exceeded our expectations and will leave a lasting impression on us.

Fantastic food in a cool environment, service was slow, waitress could have been friendlier, you don’t really get any information about the history, at least not at the time we went. Took way too long to get service between courses and upon completing. Also it’s quite humid and warm on a summer day. Definitely worth it for the food and historical value, though the prices are a bit high. Peanut soup is fine, clam chowder is solid, George Washington’s favorite is fantastic.

Old and rustic place with great tasting food!! 😋 Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the food tastes really really good. This place is older than… it’s old! but it is worth a try! 👍🏻

Beautifully staged event for the American Friends of Lafayette’s penultimate event of the 13 month Bicentennial Farewell Tour. The menu was divine and delicious - from the cocktail hors d’oeuvres to the dinner menu and dessert. Beautifully executed. Thank you AFL & Gretchen Bulova, Historic Alexandria! ❤️⚜️🇾🇪⚜️🇺🇸❤️

Such a vibe. Oldest bar in Alexandria. The history is cool. There’s no sitting bar but I would still recommend sitting down for a cocktail. The cocktail menu is good. Very Washington. There was a group of people dressed up in colonial garb celebrating something while we were there so that was neat

Of course you come for the tavern atmosphere but the filet—amazing. So tender and flavorful with crispy potatoes and asparagus. My husband said the trifle dessert was also delicious.

Sunday brunch was good, but the interior can be slightly improved. I sat by a window where a semi-dried dead lantern fly was flopping around thr window sill with AC wind😂. Also had only one waitress working for 6-8 tables at a time, so the service was a bit slow.

Went here 30 years ago with my parents and it was an incredible dinner experience. Went again last night and the servers weren't friendly, the drinks weren't good, and some of the food was good, but not all of it. We should have left it alone with the memory from 30 years ago but it was worth a try. Seems like it has new owners that don't care. Sad to say very disappointing.

Vietnamese restaurant
Caphe Banh Mi is a popular Vietnamese eatery in Alexandria, known for its delicious banh mi sandwiches and other traditional dishes like pho, vermicelli, and summer rolls. The restaurant offers a creative twist on classic dishes with options like broiled catfish banh mi and vegetarian soy chicken with lemongrass. Customers can enjoy fresh Vietnamese bites at affordable prices, with sandwiches priced under $10 and rice or vermicelli entrees just slightly higher.
My first bite was a taste sensation and locked in my opinion of 5-star food! The freshness of the ingredients shone thru! Nothing extravagant about the decor, but there is pleasant outdoor seating (in addition to the cozy indoor dining). Pleasant, attentive and quick service.

Loved it. Delicious and reasonably priced báhn mì sandwiches and bun vermicelli rice bowls. I would have liked more herbs and veggies but I’ll put that down to personal preference. Service was friendly and attentive. It was great to dine outside on their quiet street side patio too with leaves rustling overhead.

As a bahn mi lover, i highly recommend coming here. The imperial rolls for an app are a little pricey (9$ for 2) but worth it as they are delicious. My partner loves his pho too. We enjoyed sitting outside for lunch.

SO CUTE! They brought out our food so quick I’ve never had food come out that quick. I got the House pho, def recommend the regular size and the spring rolls. My pho was so flavorful and delicious with PERFECT noodles. Try this place !

One of our favorite places for Pho and Thai tea. The restaurant is very small so the seating is very crowded. You're almost sitting next to the patrons beside you but you do have outside seating available. When the weather is nice the outside seating is very nice with the lights strung up outside.

My go to for pho in old town. Delicious vegetarian options and friendly staff. Very tiny inside but plenty of outdoor seating.

I come here when I am craving something tasty and relatively healthy. I usually order one of their banh mi sandwiches and they are consistently excellent especially in comparison with other banh mi I've had in the DMV area. They use high quality ingredients and have a delicious flavor. This place is one of my favorite in Old Town. And on top of that it's really affordable.

Fast food restaurant
Meggrolls is a fast food restaurant that serves up delicious egg rolls with comfort-fare fillings. The menu features everything from gyros to chicken parm megrolls, and the creamy-yet-spicy cilantro-ranch slaw is a must-try side. The chorizo poblano and Bigg Megg are especially delicious, stealing hearts of even the most hardened fast food junkie.
First time here. My bill was a little over $13 for the buffalo chicken eggroll (2"×5"), fries and a drink. Pricey, right? But! It was delicious!!! The service was excellent. The cashiers are super friendly and made recommendations. Restaurant is clean. Bathroom is clean. Nice lunch spot. Definitely worth trying.
Waverly R — Google review
This by far is the best food truck turned brick and mortar I have ever encountered. These are not just ordinary egg rolls. The Meggroll is this jumbo egg roll stuffed with the most flavorful ingredients you've ever tasted with an super crunchy outer roll. My favorite was the buffalo chicken. And the Megg slaw was amazing and an excellent contrast to the roll.
The E — Google review
Okay. If you don't know about megrolls, you will be most pleasantly surprised. A crispy egg roll base for everything on the menu is simply ingenious. Best is the big meg, her take on a big mac, the mac and cheese and the delicious coleslaws. But save room for dessert, because they are outstanding. The homemade pound cake is from an old family recipe and is to die for!!!!

(UPDATE) Meggrolls still pumps out tasty creative takes on egg rolls, using high quality ingredients. Loved the Chorizo Poblano and The Nanner S'More for lunch today. (ORIGINAL REVIEW) Rooting for this food truck turned into restaurant. Modern twist on egg rolls. Think of a chicken parm turned into an egg roll? This is it. A couple of soft openings, they're only opened for dinner currently and are testing the waters with hours and other timeslots. Really enjoyed the Chicken Parmesan egg roll, you can tell the home-made red sauce (lightly spicy and good depth of flavor, awesome!). Pleasant staff. Food is cooked to order, so it takes a little time. They offer a mix of egg rolls, salads, fries and soups (try the White Bean Chicken Chili, very nice!)

Guess our unlucky day. The reviews gave us hope to try this place and boy were we disappointed 😞. Got the Greek, Buffalo, Chorizo and large fry. All were old food that had been sitting and that was the initial red flag. The Greek the eggroll wrapper was old and refried.. just all negative. Super disappointed because it seemed like a cool concept but we ended up throwing out all the food and $30. Won't return.
Tiff C — Google review
Really good and unique food! Special slaw and fusion egg rolls. Least favorite is the buffalo wings and my favorite was the gyro. Knowledgeable staff, average person is fine with one order - even better is to split 3 person order with friends. Happy Hour M-Thursday is a great lunch deal!
Kate M — Google review
These are amazing..... they're exactly what you're dreaming of, enormous crunchy eggrolls. I can't believe how delicious they were - tried the Bulgogi beef and the Gyro - both amazing flavors.
Sarah G — Google review
After reading all the reviews and willing to get something different I choose this place, I was hoping for more After all the great reviews, but end up very disappointed. The service was great A++. I ask for the 2 best sellers and I end up getting the BiggMeg and the Buffalo. BigMeg. 0 flavor the even the mayonnaise bland. The Buffalo chicken didn't care for it, the sauce taste just like a cheap 5gal bucket. The actual rolls where chewy and rubbery and very tough to swallow it, and they just cake out of the fryer actually reminded me to those pretzels that you get on the street of NY ol and rubbery. Not pleasant, end up dumping most of it only got a bite of each. 22$ a bit to high but OK. The best part where the fries 🍟but they are only fries so nothing especial. Definitely will not be back and will not recommend anyone to try this place. I may try 1 more time just to give it another chance, maybe it was just an old badge

Japanese restaurant
Sushi restaurant
Nestled in the charming Old Town, Nasime Japanese Restaurant is a delightful gem that offers an exquisite journey through Japanese cuisine. Helmed by Ginza-trained chef Yuh Shimomura, this intimate 20-seat eatery presents a flexible omakase menu perfect for any occasion—whether it's a romantic evening or a cozy night at home. The restaurant prides itself on delivering high-quality dishes at accessible prices, featuring options like a seven-course tasting menu and even to-go selections.
Very intimate setting, great for an impressive date night. Hard to get reservations due to only having 3 tables. But totally worth it for the amazing top tier fine dining experience. The chef explained each dish personally and gave recommendations on how to eat it. Was truly the best dining experience I’ve had. Every dish out did the last. The sashimi plate and ox tail soup a were stand outs. However the menu varies by day.
Ashley C — Google review
We were really looking forward to returning to Nasime after five years, but sadly, this visit was a major letdown. At $110 per person for the omakase and $75 for the sake pairing, we expected a polished and memorable dining experience — but it missed the mark on several fronts. The chef seemed disengaged throughout the meal, which was surprising given the intimate setting. His uniform was visibly stained, and the kitchen didn’t appear as clean or orderly as we remembered or expected at this price point. The biggest disappointment came with the sashimi course. We were given a single shared platter — and each type of fish had only three pieces, so we had to awkwardly split the third piece between the two of us. For an omakase of this caliber, individual plating should be a given. To make matters worse, some of the cuts were gristly and unpleasant in texture — a far cry from the clean, delicate sashimi we’d hoped for. All in all, it felt like the attention to detail and care that once defined Nasime has faded. For the cost, we expected more — in food quality, presentation, and hospitality.

best dining experience i’ve ever had. was full by the end, it was a well rounded meal with different types of vegetables, meats, and fish. everything was delicious and either rich and hearty or flavorful and refreshing. service was also phenomenal, the waitress was super sweet, attentive. and it’s a super intimate restaurant, you can only reserve in groups of two i believe.
Kristine P — Google review
Fantastic dining experience. Interior is intimate and peaceful. Each dish is prepared with great thoughtfulness and care and a delight in taste and presentation. Highlights were the wagyu beef and cod. They even accommodated a shellfish allergy upon request. Very happy with the experience and hope to come back again soon.

A fantastic omakase experience that went beyond just serving nigiri. The prices were reasonable, the food was delicious, and the staff were very friendly. However, like many omakase spots, the portion sizes were quite small—the only dish that really left me feeling about 70% full was the pot of udon served at the end.
Shirley L — Google review
This place made me feel like I was back visiting Japan. Everything we ate made me feel warm and comforted. The food was beautiful but the taste so authentic and genuine. We stumbled upon this restaurant looking for reservations on Resy and wow we were so lucky. The prices are super reasonable for what you get and you could tell the chef really is talented and kind. I would absolutely recommend to my friends and family and will be frequenting this place quite often now that I know that it exists!

A great meal with rich, umami flavors! Fresh and quality ingredients in every dish. Our favorite was the fried octopus. Definitely worth the experience for a special occasion.

Has six-course omakase. Each dish was specially prepared and the chef was diligent in allergies. The size of the restaurant requires reservations but it is great for birthdays. We also ordered sturgeon caviar and sea urchin which were amazing!

Bilbo Baggins offers American fare and drinks in a rustic setting that may suit dwarves, hobbits, and men. The restaurant was just under perfect with dishes like the chicken stuffed with pasta and vegetables. The service was fast and extremely nice, attentively keeping water levels topped off in the summer heat.
The food here is so good and so fresh. The customer service is really good too. Our server Feliciano was so kind and sweet. They have something on the menu for everyone including vegans and vegetarians. And for the food to be as fresh as it is, it’s very inexpensive. I cannot wait to go back again.

My family and I had a great experience dining at Bilbo Baggins for lunch. We were able to talk to one of the owners and learn the history of the location, which has now been in operation 39 years. The food was good, beer selection is great and the ambience and conversation were fantastic. We would definitely come back. Thanks! :-)

Fantastic place to grab dinner. Don't interpret 4 stars as anything other than "just under perfect". The menu was a little pricey but that's not unexpected in Old Town. Obviously there are some LOTR themes but as someone who's never seen it, I wasn't left out or confused or anything. I went with the Queen Street Chicken which was stuffed and breaded chicken breast on some pasta and vegetables. Everything except the stuffing was absolutely great - something about the stuffing just wasn't great. Service was fast and extremely nice; great attention to water levels, which is always a plus in the summer.
Joseph S — Google review
Really enjoyed dinner here! The food was delicious - we got the Baked Brie , Porkloin, and Bilbo's Salad and enjoyed all of it. My favorite part was the brie with the mango apricot chutney (which was more like a jam or marmalade?) which was very good. Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive. It's not quite as Lord of the Rings themed as we'd expected, but there are trivia cards at the tables to play with. The seating is interesting because the restaurant is split into two areas, a dining area and a bar area, but there is plenty of space, although I probably wouldn't recommend coming here with a particularly large party... The decor is more Irish pub-y (at least where we ate), but the bathroom has the Lord of the Rings trivia board game framed in it. Quaint little place. Would recommend.
Wei S — Google review
Had lunch here and had a good experience. Food was great, had two different types of pizzas and they were both excellent. Beer selection is good as well. Would look forward to going again
Richard B — Google review
Neat place to eat. I thought there would be more LOTR paraphernalia but there wasn't. Was told brunch was what they're known for but it was okay. There was a slight language barrier with the waiters and chef. I won't make a special trip to eat there but if I'm in the area, I'll eat there.
Alex B — Google review
It really is to bad because this place used to have really good food. My wife and I had not been here in quite a while, and remembered it to be a really nice bar with a great selection of beer and the food was good. We were sadly disappointed on this past visit the selection of beers was still good but the service was extremely slow. I ordered the ruban sandwich it was awful to tiny thin slices of corn beef heavy on the sourkraut, honestly the ruban sandwich at Arby's is much better. That's it for me, there are so many really good restaurants in Alexandria sadly this is no longer one, I will not try this place ever again
George P — Google review
We had some of the best food I can remember. The flavors were out of this world. Everything freshly prepared to perfection. Even the made from scratch desserts. Our server knew the menu well and even helped me pair my beer to the food. Extensive beer menu as well.

Huntley Meadows Park is a beloved natural oasis in Fairfax County, offering a 2-mile marshland boardwalk trail and observation towers for wildlife viewing. Birders flock to the park for its access to over 200 unique bird species. The park's serene environment, with woodlands and marshes teeming with life, provides a peaceful escape from the surrounding urban landscape.
Excellent place to view wildlife of all types, especially birds. The boardwalks that wind their way through the park offer sweeping views of the marshy area. You’ll meet a lot of people taking pictures of the wildlife (including myself). If you’re coming out here with small children, be mindful of the fact that large portions of the boardwalk do not have railings so keep them close.

The Alfred Street Baptist Church is one of the oldest congregations in Alexandria and one of the oldest in the Washington area. The church was originally built in 1855, and has since offered both religious and secular learning opportunities for African Americans. In addition to its traditional services, the church also operates an educational branch that provides education to both children and adults.
I finally visited after finding out about this church a year ago. Great pastor & great sermon. I can tell the congregation loves their church because I arrived 5 minutes early to the second service and was almost sent to the overflow. I know next time to arrive much earlier. Parking: if you don’t get there early enough the garage parking will be full & you then have to find street parking & then walk. I had to walk 2 blocks, but at least the street parking is free on Sundays.

Was there to help in the celebration of Mrs. Garrett as she retired as the lead over the Worship Arts Ministry for well over forty years. Sr. Pastor John Wesley is a class act and extremely talented. He believes in supporting and advocating for women in leadership and exemplifying what walking the walk of faith looks like with not only the successes but all of the struggles, pitfalls it comes with. There is free parking available, they also have picnic area outside of the park if you bring your own food. There is a batting cage area and a mini golf area available for play. Food is also available inside park. I really liked it. Nice spot!!!!!!

Great location they sell food which is great. My son enjoys it here only reason I give 4 starts is because there hours are not updated I drove 30 minutes one time to come, it said they opened at 5 PM. I arrived at 5:30 and they closed at seven. I then said something to a worker and they told me that they're opening hours are 11 AM. I went off of what Google said. I even tried calling before I arrived, but there's no way to talk to anyone

I love this place. We were invited for a birthday party. The kids had so much fun, miniature golf and so many other activities I can’t count so it’s worth you googling.

This was an amazing event! Honestly it’s really only worth it if you go ice skating. The lights it’s self takes maybe 10 min to walk through we walked through them twice. Tons of photo opportunities. There’s a shop for kids to get light up toys as well. The skating was a ton of fun especially at night around the lights. Tickets include skate rentals. It is real ice. Was not crowded at all when we went. If you’re not good at skating no problem they have little walkers to push around and little kids can sit and ride them. Staff is very friendly and they watch over the ice for people who fall. I brought my 6 and 9 year old we had a great time

My job held a fun day here. Many of us didn't know there was a water park in the DMV city area. It's not a huge park, but it's large enough to escape the heat. The slides are okay. We did then to get wet...the orange side gave us a welcome surprise. 😀 It is geared towards elementary aged and younger, but as an adult, I was able to have a good time. Not my first choice, but i if we do another fun day...I will be there. I can see business growing with the close of Six Flags over Largo.

Wavepool is great! Lifeguards were on the job. Food was disgusting so go find something to eat afterwards. Be there at 11am so you can enjoy the waves... by 130 there were alot of young adults and teenagers crowded into the pool.

Nestled within the charming Morrison House hotel in Alexandria, The Study at Morrison House is a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. This upscale bar and restaurant exudes sophistication with its polished decor and intimate ambiance, making it ideal for romantic evenings or special celebrations. Guests can indulge in a menu crafted from seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, showcasing inventive dishes that are as visually stunning as they are delicious.
We had an outstanding experience at The Study at Morrison House. The staff and the food were nothing short of exceptional, and we eagerly anticipate our next visit to explore more of the tantalizing options on their menu. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted and swiftly seated. The decor was elegant, and the ambiance set the perfect tone for a romantic dinner. Our waiter, Rodney, was phenomenal. He was incredibly attentive, kind, and had an impressive knowledge of the menu. His recommendations were spot-on and greatly enhanced our dining experience. The food was spectacular, from the appetizers to the dessert. Each dish was a delight to the senses, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. The attention to detail in both taste and presentation was exactly what one would expect from a high-end restaurant. We can't wait to return and try more of their amazing dishes.

Excellent! We were blown away by each dish, on the two nights we stayed at the Morrison House. 1st time we ate at the bar while listening to lovely piano-playing. The 2nd night we reserved a table at the Study & the ambiance & food were both phenomenal. Sean, our server was so friendly, funny, & attentive! Loved every dish & moment there!

Went on a Saturday evening. The Study is located in a cute hotel just off the Main Street. The restaurant is nicely decorated, feels cozy and modern. The service by Shawn and the rest of the staff was friendly and helpful. Food and drinks were really amazing (salmon, empanada, duck with mole), with Latin influences. Highly recommend the tres leches dessert which is a family recipe (have it with coffee 👍). The pliant player had us going to the bar after for an after dinner drink and chatting with people at the bar. A great night!

Oh my goodness, what an amazing experience! We participated in the Chef’s tasting menu, perfection! Rodney our server was extremely knowledgeable and really great! Great vibe and flow, the team works very well together to bring a beautiful experience to your table!

I don’t ever leave reviews due to my laziness, but today I decided to leave my very first review for this lovely place! This is our first experience at The Study. I honestly didn’t know what to expect as the restaurant seemed quite small. We knew about the l live piano performance but it exceeded our expectations. Derek’s performance was so lovely and he sings really well! We love musics like such so it definitely made our experience even better! Sean served us and he is absolutely a pleasant person to be greeted by - very friendly and sweet. Take his recs! The food? It absolutely blew my mind - so healthy, clean, yet very flavorful. I can tell that ingredients were very fresh. We had arroz con mariscos and fried fish with avocado rice. I got obsessed with the avocado rice that came with the fried fish - rich in olive oil and lime (i think)! We absolutely cleared our plates leaving nothing behind. Chef Guzman gave us complimentary gaspachos and desserts for us to try and she came to ask how things were, which I thought was lovely. Cocktails - delicious!! we had the one with coconut cream and another one with guava. SO GOOD! I think we’d even come back just for the drinks as well. We already know that we’ll be back here again very soon. Before coming in I thought it was a bit pricey but having had the experience the experience is worth every penny. I highly recommend for cozy family dinners and date nights. You won’t regret!!

Wow.... Great food, even better service, and the music was the best. Loved Derek on the piano. It wasnt too loud and or too soft. Every drink and food item was on point. The smoked Twin Ambassadors were delicious! Don't pass on the cevichitio either, you won't be disappointed. We also had the bistec encebolladilo (wagyu), pork iberico, and arroz con mariscos. Everything was cooked to order and so delicious. Oh, dessert, the chocolate sampler (really just one piece of delicious cake) and the tres leches were great! We will certainly return.

Our party had an excellent time at The Study at Morrison House. This place is a perfect hidden gem. Excellent, friendly, and fun service. Cocktails came fast and delicious but the food really took things over the top. Our waiter was well informed and knew each item well, we tried a variety of dishes on his recommendations and everyone was thrilled. Chef Tomas even stopped by to talk to us about our dishes, his inspiration for the menu, and gave us a comped treat at the end. Live music was a nice tough too. We were celebrating (and a little raucous) with friends in town but we'll be back for a quiet drink and bite or maybe even another celebration soon.
Patrick L — Google review
My wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at The Study and as usual it exceeded our expectations. Our waitress, Grace, was superb and our dinner was delicious. Chef Mandy, a graduate from the CIA - Culinary Institute of America, came out and introduced herself to us and ask if we enjoyed the meal that she had prepared. We both decdided to try the tasting menu which is offered on Thursday nights and we were delighted that we made the right choice. The Hamachi Tiradito was exceptional and the dry-aged seven hills strip loin perfectly prepared. The icying on the cake was the old school New Orleans piano player/singer who filled the room with his Ray Charles voice. If you are looking for a nice upscaled intimate setting to celebrate a special occassion this is definitely a must do.

Pizza restaurant
RedRocks Old Town is a pizzeria with an open kitchen that serves Neapolitan-style pies and microbrews, wine, and cocktails. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and the dress code is casual.
Our server was amazing. Food was absolutely fabulous. We shared garlic knots and The Buddy Detroit style. It was just enough for 2 of us! Loved the decor as well. Will definitely be back if ever in the area again!

The waiter and staff were very nice - they get 5 stars! The food itself- well charged me $15 for asking for gluten free bread with my spinach/ artichoke dip appetizer. The bread was not a real bread, was pita bread and hard to scoop into the spinach/ artichoke dip. Will never order food for them again. A real rip off!

Stopped in for lunch at Red Rocks Pizza in Alexandria. The place was clean (it did smell strongly of bleach, but I guess that means they keep things sanitized). The signal inside was terrible, so I had to ask for the WiFi password. Service was friendly and attentive, but unfortunately the pizza itself was disappointing, it came out surprisingly cold, the sauce was watery, and the cheese was a bit chewy. Overall, good service but the food missed the mark.
Natasha G — Google review
The pizza and pasta were both great. Nice restaurant for a large group. Communication with our server was difficult. No non alcoholic drinks listed on their menu and our server couldn’t understand us when we asked her if they offered any. Bummer for my NA husband, especially in a large group setting.
Jessica D — Google review
We ordered the meatballs as an app, and they were good served with slices of bread to dip into the sauce. We got the goat cheese and mushroom pizza and a arugula type of pizza. Both were really good and crispy. I like goat cheese but I'm not sure I like it on pizza due to its sweet flavor, but this was ok. If you like it this may be a good pie for you. They have some outdoor street side seating which is nice on a cool night like we came on.

Great food, drinks, and service! This restaurant is perfect for Happy Hour, date night, and lunch. The pizza is good and offers a flavorful taste and thin crest. However, the most popular food items are breakfast! Trust me, their breakfast sandwiches are really good. The location is also perfect for seeing the sites of Old Town as well as King St.

Extremely angry and disappointed in my order. I went to dinner her a few months back and spent $30 on a pizza which was ridiculous but it was good and it was a huge portion so I recommended this place to all my friends. Ordered it for delivery tonight and spent $40 expecting something similar but got this disappointment. Damn near the size of a personal pizza for the same amount as before. I won't be recommending this place again.

Italian restaurant
When it comes to Italian dining, few restaurants can rival the experience that you'll find at Tempo Restaurant. Not only is the atmosphere art-filled and inviting, but the food itself is exemplary of classic French and Italian cookery. Highlights on the menu include entrées like Linguini Vongale and Sole Almondine, as well as tempting sides like Scaloppini di Vitello.
Went here for dinner one evening and had a great experience! The staff is very friendly and funny, and the food tasted very fresh. We started with the carpaccio, then one of us got linguine with broccoli and crab, the other got liver, and then we ended with a chocolate kahlua cheesecake (my favorite part). Will definitely be returning!

I had a nice family dinner here, had salad, appetizers, dessert and coffee. Staff was very nice and food was acceptable. Art was unique but there was no music. Even some soft piano or classical is nice rather than hearing others chew. No bar sadly but the cocktails served were nice. Fried cheese appetizer could have a side dip of some kind. Overall nice quiet place for a bite, but nothing to write home about.

An upscale cosy Italian Restaurant tucked in a corner on the main highway. Serving exquisite pasta and wine, the service is fantastic. I ordered a portion of the tomato mozzarella and it was really fresh and delicious. For my mains, the chef prepared a special vegetarian pasta for me and I relished every bite. To top it all, you get to choose your desert from a bunch of options displayed to you on your table! The waiter will bring a tray of the deserts available for you to pick your poison. I choose the dark chocolate mousse, and I did not regret my choice. Overall, a fabulous dinner. Easy to miss this spot, but a must visit!

We had a lovely Sunday brunch meal. I highly recommend the French Toast. It is rich and fluffy and seasoned in the most lovely way and covered in fresh fruit. We had the blueberry tart for dessert. It is a fabulous cream base with bold blueberries exploding throughout. Yum! The service was excellent. The interior has whimsical art including "Rock, Paper, Scissors" and "The Basic Food Groups". The pricing is moderate for dishes. Try Tempo and experience the music of Sunday brunch!

Casual diner chain dishing up classic American comfort fare, including all-day breakfast favorites.
Denny’s serves decent diner classics—fluffy pancakes, hearty Grand Slams, and reliable burgers. Nothing gourmet, but satisfying for the price. Coffee’s average, service varies. Solid 7/10 for comfort food at 3 AM. 🥞☕

It may be Denny’s, but I’ve had great experiences here. There’s plenty of free parking. The staff are friendly. The place is relatively clean. And I have actually enjoyed my meals here. I’ve found the skillets to be very good. The price is reasonable. And there’s enough for two meals. This last time I had the crazy spicy skillet. Surprisingly I like this Denny’s. The service is always very good, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The environment is what you expect from a Denny’s, and it’s generally kept clean. While everyone knows the food, I’ve continued enjoying my food here. This morning I had the Crazy Spicy Skillet, which was perfect, and reasonably priced. My wife had the Denver Mile High omelette, which she thoroughly enjoyed. So yes, worth going to in my humble opinion.

This is the food that was served to us 4/26/25. The tenders and fries were barely warm. All food was delivered to us less than 5 minutes after ordering. No one ever checked back with us so that it could be mentioned. I did receive five super dried out, puny, way overcooked and barely warm tenders. The fries were mealy and old. Just awful. Any customer service from Dennys (corporate) is non-existent . Staff was friendly, that's the only positive.

My sister and I stopped in for a working lunch and absolutely enjoyed out food, our server and the time we spent working. Our server Ruby and the gentleman she was training were efficient and patient as well as kind, greeting us with smiles. Ms. Selma stopped by our table to make sure we had what we needed and was a true delight! She informed she was the manger and was truly genuine. She stated, "this is your Denny's" and we agreed.

Thank you so much Martha service was awesome would highly recommend asking for her when going to enjoy with family to eat 100% recommended.

So the food was normal, buffalo wings lightly tossed, the put in box shake twice method the sauce didn't cover the wings. Hash & French great. The server was very attentive and polite. The place looked clean just smelled like old mop water N out water for wiping tables.

I really enjoyed my meal at Denny’s. Deborah was my server and she was so nice and attentive of me and my kids. She took our order and delivered quickly. She checked in on us throughout our meal to make sure we didn’t need anything. The kids and I always feel at home and well taken of when dining here.
Karina L — Google review
There was a piece of hair eight in the side of my plate, right when the server brought it. I removed it, showed it to him and all he did was drop it to the floor. Never offering a fresh salad and mumbling a barely noticeable apology. I didn't request another as the same person may have made it, again. I took the salad home because I wanted to feed it to the birds, which I did. Probably will NOT go back to that location. Oh, I did enjoy watching the robotic food server.

Mediterranean restaurant
BARCA Pier & Wine Bar offers a breezy Mediterranean dining experience with outdoor riverfront seating, providing a perfect setting to enjoy tapas and wine. Located on an Old Town commercial pier along the Potomac River, the restaurant's seafood-centered menu is rooted in Catalonian and Mediterranean cuisine. The industrial freight container serving as the main bar adds to its unique charm.
Barca is a must-visit if you love tapas and waterfront vibes. The service was absolutely immaculate—attentive without ever feeling rushed. Every dish tasted incredibly fresh and thoughtfully curated. I sampled a variety of plates and was impressed across the board: the lamb and steak were both perfectly tender and bursting with flavor. The calamari came out crisp and golden, and the fried lemon alongside it was a culinary twist I didn’t know I needed. Do not skip the whipped goat cheese with pistachio and honey served with warm, fresh pita—truly to die for. Whether you’re there for a date night or a night out with friends, Barca delivers a dining experience that’s as memorable as the view
Khalfani G — Google review
First off, let me highlight the views from the pier and all around because they’re FANTASTIC! Next, our server Blake was a true rockstar and didn’t skip a beat. Last but certainly not least, the food (small plates) all excellent from the meatballs, scallops, flank steak, Ahi tuna and the hummus. Not one disappointed. Great place and great food!

Found out that this was a great place to watch the sunset. There were many tapas dishes to try. We tried the lamb chops, scallops, stuffed peppers, and a shrimp dish. Everything was delicious. Drinks were great as well! Our server was pleasant and attentive. Definitely recommend for a nice day or evening on the water.

Perfect place for drinks and food with family. I loved everything the minute I walked up to the host stand, she was very friendly and sat us down right away. Our waiter and the waiter in training were both super knowledgeable about the food and recommended us what drinks & plates to order. Everything was very tasty & delicious. I can’t wait to go back! We did get there by boat & by the time of our reservation 12:45pm- there was only one more space on the dock directly to the restaurant but there’s plenty more space on the other side!
Nicole R — Google review
The food was phenomenal.. It came out quickly, was very flavorful and I enjoyed everything we ordered. However, note that it is tapas style, so small portions, making it a bit pricier. We ordered the lamb, steak, shrimp, beef kebab and calamari and they were all very very tasty with the steak, lamb, and beef being my faves in that order. Also the ambiance being on the water was really nice. Would definitely recommend

I went to BARCA for Sunday brunch and had a great time. The restaurant is right on the pier so you have a waterfront view. The food is tapas style and everything was flavorful and delicious. Will definitely go back again!
Lauren D — Google review
Had a drink, an appetizer, and a tapa here for the first time, sitting outside in their waterfront section of their restaurant. It was a great setting on a nice fall day. Drinks and food came quickly. Watching boats and planes go bye along with the people watching and good conversation made for a pleasant afternoon. What's more, the prices are reasonable for Old Town Alexandria. We'll be back.
Alvin B — Google review
Old Town Alexandria has been my home for 14 years. One of the most impressive developments during that time has been the upgrading of the waterfront abutting the Torpedo Factory, along Union Street and radiating to the north and south points of King Street. Walking from Jones Point Park to the waterfront near where the Potomac Water Taxi docks, you can take in the stunning view of where the Woodrow Wilson Bridge anchors in the Potomac River. BARCA Pier and Wine Bar captures the river, the bridge, and the waterfront with grace and style. While its pier closes during the coldest winter weeks, four-foot ceiling-mounted heaters do a splendid job of keeping the counter and seats warm at this open-air bar. I’ve found the service to be personable, polite, and helpful. I’ve also found their mixed drink specials to be intriguing (see, e.g., Makers Mark on tap in a Red Light, with bourbon, Aperol, strawberry infused Spanish vermouth, $15) and tasty (see, e.g., the Sol y Sombra, made with Beefeater gin, St. Elder, cherry bitters, lemon, $13). Crazy busy during the summer, I make a point to visit over the weekends in the late fall, when the temperatures drop below 40o F and the heaters are at full power. A double Beefeater’s with tonic, ($20) offers just the right amount of warmth to complement a brisk walk along the riverside.

Windmill Hill Park, also known as Lee Street Park, is a charming city park located in Alexandria, VA. It offers various amenities such as athletic courts, a playground with slides, tunnels, monkey bars and swings, a dog area and scenic riverfront vistas. While the park may lack open shade for family photographers during the day, it is an ideal location for early morning family photo sessions with historic townhouses providing a classic backdrop. Specialty Museums
The Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum in Alexandria is a rare gem, offering visitors a glimpse into the world of an authentic apothecary that remained virtually untouched since its closure in 1933. The museum provides 30-minute tours that delve into the history of its renowned potions and showcases an array of preserved tinctures, scales, and peculiar bottles with handwritten labels.
What a cool authentic time capsule of an early US Apothecary. Well worth the time! They even had a letter from Martha Washington ordering supplies from them. The upstairs work shop contains all the original ingredients, storage bins, and tools of the trade that have been there for over 200 years.

So worth checking out. A rare time capsule. So rare in fact, that even the original owners realized it was worth preserving with as much originality as possible...back in the 1700s! It's also worth your money for the guided tour. Our guide was wonderful.
Megan B — Google review
I had to pleasure of taking the poison tour that was offered by the museum, and I had so much fun learning about the way people in the late 1800 to early 1900s utilized what we now know was poisonous chemicals and herbs as unique treatment methods. It was so cool getting to tour the shop and storage spaces and learn about how the shop operated when it was still in business. I would love to come back and take another tour during their normal business hours to browse the exhibits, but Gray, our tour guide did a phenomenal job during our hour-long tour!

Great job preserving this piece of history. Worth seeing once. It is only the one room and there was no upstairs portion to see when I visited. The ticket clerk was not paying much attention to the simple rope blocking off the one room available to view. I might suggest they install a turnstile. It would also be nice to have a video of costumed apothecaries talking with clients in period garb and concocting a remedy. That would make it a better experience. The Basilica of Saint Mary, located in Alexandria, Virginia, is the first Catholic parish in the state and has a rich history dating back to the late 1700s. It holds the honor of being designated as the first basilica in Virginia, the first in the Diocese of Arlington, and the 84th in the United States. The majestic venue boasts breathtaking architecture that provided a perfect setting for a memorable wedding. Visitors have described their experience at St.
We visited to light a candle for a loved one. Very nice historic church, with many stain glassed windows, and statues. Worth a stop in.

This Basilica has so many special memories for my family. My son was christened here many years ago. It was so wonderful to come back to visit The service was wonderful and the level of the Priests here is amazing. One thing that brought back a funny memory was the parking lot has not changed as people park in every single spot and you must wait for them to leave to be able to get out.

Lovely Family Mass geared for children at 8:30 am today. The use of Latin hymns under these conditions was surprising. Still, all the families in attendance filled me with joy.

Such a peaceful and beautiful place to visit. The architecture of The Basilica of Saint Mary is stunning—classic, elegant, and rich with history. It’s quiet and serene inside, perfect for reflection or simply taking in the beauty of the space. A hidden gem that offers both spiritual and architectural inspiration.

Absolutely beautiful church from the 1700s. Section to light a candle for loved ones. Walk on in. Doors open. Architecture is stunning!

Military wedding. Nice facility, clean interiors, good acoustics. If you're into stained glass you should check this church out. Most of the mass we worried in silence that our pew might collapse. The seat was quite rickety. Perhaps I was even more aware of these because I sat closest to the aisle and the anchor of the pew? Great location, walking distance to Old Town and the Waterfront. Street parking only.

The Little Theatre of Alexandria, established in 1934, is a cherished community theater offering seven full stage productions annually along with adult and youth classes. The company has a rich history and has staged over 350 shows, attracting notable figures like former presidents Harry Truman and George W. Bush. From classic holiday tales to timeless Dickensian stories, the theater transports audiences to different worlds while reminding them of the true meaning behind each performance.
Beautiful theatre, lovely atmosphere, and comfortable seats. The play was great and funny, the actors and actresses were so good, the building is loved, and the set was imaginative. It was a wonderful night out!!

A terrific show! It was entertaining and glitzy without being over the top. All the leads were strong and the band was strong. The sound quality was nice and bravo to the wardrobe team and hair and makeup.

Attended a musical, unbelievable show. Sound was epic lighting brilliant seating a little hard on my skinny bony butt. Such amazingly kind interested helpful folks at the counter and ushers etc. Brilliant safe location. GO NOW! You can’t go wrong with such high class talents available. Stop making excuses GO already.

I was at the little theater of Alexandria last evening to see the play "Lost in Yonkers". The first Act was slow moving for me until the end of the first act. Sometimes, it was hard to hear the youngest member of the cast. I came alive during the second Act of the play, because of the powerful performances of Bella, her mom and younger brother.

I have been getting yearly subscriptions and going to all shows since I moved to Alexandria about three years ago. Love. Love. LOVE. Highly recommend. The shows are great & the volunteers are very friendly and helpful. My favorite DMV theatre, truly!

Have been going to Little Theatre for years. It’s a small venue so every seat is great. They’ve followed Covid protocols in such a good way-they used cardboard cutouts between sets of seats so the theater felt full but no one was sitting next to or right by you. We had “cats” behind us! It’s a comfortable space. The caliber of the performances is terrific. This is community theater and the acting, sets, directing, etc are always very very good. It’s excellent value for dollar. The staff is super helpful. Can’t recommend it enough

Located in Old Town Alexandria, Ada's on the River is a trendy riverside venue offering a delectable menu of steak, seafood, and weekend brunch options. The restaurant boasts a robust wine list and serves up refreshing cocktails. With its outdoor dining area adorned with signature red umbrellas, patrons can enjoy sweeping views of the Potomac River while indulging in dishes like wood-fired prime steaks, fresh seafood, and vegetarian options.
Great food, nice atmosphere and views of the Potomac. Service was good too. The big caution here, though, are the prices. This is an expensive place. Plus if you need to park your car, there's no parking lot and you're on your own needing to find a place to park. There is a garage nearby that we used and that was expensive too. We stopped in for lunch and were greeted by the hostess. The place looked great. Everything was modern and clean. The lunch menu is limited but has a couple good choices. The steak salad was delicious. We enjoyed the view as we dined and savored the time spent here. We liked Ada's, despite the high cost. It was a very nice experience, as one would expect at the prices charged.

Came here for dinner when visiting the area. There is a sitting area outside besides inside. There is also seating where you can watch them cook the food. The service was excellent. The waiter was polite and friendly. The drinks were very good. There was a special spicy margarita that was amazing. The food was excellent. All of it was excellent. The pictures are beef tartar and oysters which are appetizers. The 75 day aged ny strip, 60 day aged ribeye, and cream spinach for entrees. The beignets for dessert are the best. Also had a nice sherry for dessert. I would would definitely recommend and will come back if in the area again

We celebrated our 1 year anniversary here and can’t wait to come back. Great drinks, amazing service and fantastic food. I think the filet was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. He enjoyed the crab cake tremendously, and we both loved the hash brown pave and Brussels sprouts - seriously, get them both! We started with the chicken thigh app and the flavor was out of this world. Erlinda took amazing care of us and was so kind to us on our special day. We will be back!

We came for a weeknight dinner to celebrate my daughter’s 20th birthday. Although we made reservations, we waited about 15 minutes past our reservation time to be seated because the restaurant was full. It was a lovely temperate evening, so the weight wasn’t bad. The inside of the restaurant was very loud. There is not a lot of sound dampening, so I do not recommend this for someone who is easily overstimulated by sound. Our waiter was great. He asked about dietary restrictions and allergies at the start. (I am gluten-free), and answered all of our questions. He was knowledgeable about the featured cocktails of which I had Poetry in an Algorithm, and it was spot on. He brought the birthday girl, a complementary mocktail, which was light and refreshing, not too sweet, and perfectly enjoyable. My daughter had the lamb shank, pictured here. It was poetry on a plate in presentation. Fall off the bone tender. It was a huge entrée, but my daughter ate it with gusto. The manager came by to check on us at one point and we had a lovely chat. She told the manager that the lamb was amazing! My husband had the trout stuffed with crab, and he said it was good, but his taste buds were confused. I had the petite fillet mignon, and I used the table knife to cut it, it was so tender. The sweet potato side and the asparagus side were both interesting and delicious. For appetizers, I had the stuffed mussels, which had a nice little flavorful kick that lingered and built after you had eaten the bite. My husband and daughter shared the mushroom lasagna. It was good and flavorful, but they said it was underwhelming. We finished up the dinner with the raspberry Napoleon. It was the perfect little bit of sweet to top off a very rich and filling dinner.
Reba W — Google review
Attentive wait staff. Great atmosphere and beautiful view of the Potomac River. The food was delicious and the drinks exceeded my expectations. The pork chop with grapes was well seasoned and had a slight kick to it. The lamb shank was excellent. The beignets were a nice end to a great dinner.

Really delicious food and excellent service in a very bright and spacious restaurant. The vegetarian gnocchi were fluffy, light, and very flavorful. The crab cake had a ton of crab and were very filling. The chocolate souffle was worth every calorie. It server was very attentive, gave us tons of useful tips about the food and generally took good care of us. The views of the open sky and the water were a great perk.

My husband and I went Saturday for his birthday. We especially enjoyed the grilled octopus with fingerling potatoes on the appetizers menu. I ordered the crab stuffed Carolina trout while my husband ordered lobster and hanger steak. For desert I ordered the chocolate gateaux and my husband had the caramel beignets. Everything was delicious. Elizabeth, our waitress, was warm and attentive and Carlos, the manager, was engaging. We enjoyed it so much that we went back for lunch today. We just got two orders of the grilled octopus and and order of the cream spinach. I plan on spending my birthday there in March.

Saw this place walking by and noticed people's plates and vowed to go back. They did not disappoint. My father got the Mahi Mahi sandwich. I'm not a fan of fish sandwiches but when I tasted his, I quickly changed my thoughts. I got the smoked swordfish with brussel sprouts and a side of Lobster mac. Everything was so flavorful, perfectly so!! We finished with the apple beignets suggested by our waiter and that was the cherry on top! Amazing food, nice atmosphere and a great staff 10 out 10!

Seafood restaurant
Nestled in a charming historic building that once served as a marine supply shop, The Warehouse offers an inviting blend of casual elegance and modern cuisine. This beloved Old Town gem showcases a New Orleans-inspired menu featuring prime aged steaks, fresh seafood, and classic American dishes. Guests can savor their meals indoors or opt for the delightful outdoor dining area, which provides stunning views of the surrounding historic architecture.
5 stars — Absolutely phenomenal! The Warehouse is hands-down one of the best seafood spots I’ve been to. We ordered the calamari, gator bites, scallops, seafood sampler, and the herb-crusted salmon with mashed potatoes and asparagus — and every single dish was delicious. Perfectlyo cooked, seasoned just right, and packed with flavor. The atmosphere is charming and laid-back, and the service was on point the entire time. We went on Mother’s Day — one of the busiest dining days of the year — and they handled the crowd effortlessly. Can’t recommend this place enough!

I was visiting with friends and we really enjoyed this restaurant. We were enticed to stop by the beautifully set tables outside and encouraged by the incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. The menu was appealing to all of us and we were all very pleased with our selections. The bread and butter was tasty and I had the Chicken Principle Salad which was excellent. My other friends got an egg dish that had beignets and strawberries and cream. They raved on their meal as well. We are all excited to visit again!

We were visiting from out of town and the streets were shut down, all the restaurants and shops were open and there was live music at the park! It is such a beautiful area and I can’t wait to go back. The Warehouse had excellent service and food. Portions were perfect and the drinks were fun and stout. This is a wonderful date night location.

First, I want to say my waiter was awesome. This is only good thing I have to say about this restaurant. I could not enjoy my meal with 2 mice running around the restaurant. 🤢🤮 Do Not Recommend. If exposed, seek medical attention & notify the health inspector asap!

Located in downtown Old Town Alexandria, this restaurant offers a delicious selection of seafood dishes designed to please a wide range of palates. We ordered the fruit de mer (seafood combination pasta). This includes shrimp crab as well as half a lobster. It was delicious. The jambalaya was also very good. The appetizer sea scallops were just okay served with chips and salsa It was a mix of flavors and combination which did not come together very well. The appetizer fried oysters were decent. The margarita was good here. Make a reservation if you want to come on the weekend since they get pretty busy.

Overall a nice relaxed white table cloth restaurant. You can dress up or down. We’ve dined inside 2x and once outside. Dining outside on the street was amazing. The night air was perfect. This was the Alexandria location. We order the fried catfish, mixed veggies and mash potatoes. My wife and ai split one meal. Without asking, the waiter brought our meal on 2 separate plates. We felt that was extremely thoughtful. I order a lemon drop that was very good, and strong. Great taste! The food was well prepared and hot. We would come back.
Alexis M — Google review
Food appearance was disappointing. My meal was not what the menu said it would be. Had to send my steak back because it was well done and I ordered medium rare. Asparagus was way over cooked and the garlic mashed potatoes were dry. They were not busy at 6:00 at night so I would hope for better. look at these pictures not the quality that it should be. Will not return or recommend. My meal was the first picture, how sad for $54.95

American restaurant
Nestled along the waterfront at Union Street, Hummingbird Bar and Kitchen is a chef-owned gem in Old Town that draws inspiration from coastal traditions. The restaurant offers a light and airy ambiance with indoor and outdoor seating, providing picturesque views of the waterfront. The menu features regional American cuisine with an emphasis on seafood, including salmon croquettes, grilled octopus, Chesapeake Bay Stew, Lobster Lemon Linguine, and raw bar options such as a caviar platter.
It’s at the back of the Indigo hotel, harder to find from the street, easier from the waterside. It’s a nice spot next to the river with large windows for great views. They also have outside dining that is just as nice, if not better. I started at the bar with some drinks, then went outside and enjoyed the weather with some appetizers. Everything was great, the bar staff were exceptional, food was delicious and the staff were attentive. It’s a great place to get some drinks and a meal, of a great spot to start out before you head out in Old Town.

Went for summer restaurant week. I appreciated the flexibility of their restaurant week menu and the outdoor seating with view of the river was lovely. The food was good and fresh but was pretty standard American fare. Nothing stood out as spectacular but was tasty overall. There were vegetarian options for all the courses. Service was a bit slow between the 1st and 2nd course. I think there may have been an issue because after a certain point service seemed to pick up for all the tables.
Kayt S — Google review
False advertising?! Dining out is never by chance for me. I have studied the menu, read the reviews, and planned out my health conscious meal during the day to be ready to indulge at the restaurant. Sadly, all my research fell short for Hummingbird. Apparently there is a Monday “special menu” that is limited and also has features not available other days. I went tonight with my heart set on the whole grilled fish and hush puppies that I reviewed on the website multiple times. Not available. I still wanted fish, and there was a salmon linguine option. This dish is only offered on Mondays. It was flavorful but heavier than I wanted for the evening. I was clearly upset, however the food was still good, giving the 4 star review. Salmon linguine: 5/5 crispy skin. Lemon cream sauce that was the perfect tang. Spring salad: 5/5 fresh light salad. The spiced pecans were a great bonus. Hummingbird Cake: got this to go! Great and moist. If you do not like banana this is not the dessert for you. The Monday night menu is a great option as there is a 3 course meal for $40! But again, many of the standouts that I heard and wanted to try were not available. I would go back on another night to try those. Apparently there is a happy hour as well. The menu is not posted online, but there is mention of it in the timing, unlike the Monday menu. Nice patio view looking at the water. As the sun went down, there were a few mice as noted in other reviews. I feel like this could be motivated but also you are sitting outside. Idk! Great service.

Hummingbird Bar + Kitchen was our wedding venue for both the ceremony and reception. We booked with them in Feb. 2025 for an October 2025 wedding, and in those ~8 months, we probably emailed back and forth with Kenneth 100 times. He is a 5 star Event & General Manager - so patient with us, answering all our questions, and filling our requests. The setting was perfect, the staff set up and tore down the entire space for our event, and they were incredibly attentive, kind, and professional throughout. Our guests raved about the food, the hummingbird cake, and the setting along the Potomac river. The location was incredibly convenient for us and our guests - many who stayed upstairs in Hotel Indigo or nearby, walking distance, and everyone enjoyed the charm of visiting Old Town, Alexandria. Our wedding was such a special day, and while there are a lot of reasons for that - we are so happy that it happened at Hummingbird. Thank you, Kenneth, to you and your staff for making it happen.

I visited during Restaurant Week and had the three-course menu. The food was decent—good, but nothing that really stood out. Portion sizes were fair. The service, however, left something to be desired. Cocktails took an unusually long time to arrive, and overall attentiveness from the staff was lacking. We chose to sit outside, but unfortunately that experience was overshadowed by a noticeable number of mice running around the patio area, which really ruined the atmosphere. Also worth noting: the restaurant isn’t directly on the water—it’s set back a bit, so don’t expect true waterfront dining.
Scott R — Google review
My husband and I had our wedding reception at Hummingbird, and we can’t say enough about how wonderful this venue was! From the very beginning, Kenneth, the event coordinator, was exceptionally responsive and communicative, taking the time to quickly and thoroughly answer all of our questions and ensure he was able to make our wedding vision come to life. For a smaller to mid-sized wedding reception, there is plenty of space in Hummingbird. The floor to ceiling windows give you a beautiful view of the Potomac and the space flows out nicely to an open patio. The food and service were also excellent, with several of our guests particularly noting how good the short ribs and crab cakes were! Planning a wedding can be stressful, and reserving Hummingbird, and working with Kenneth, made the whole process so much more seamless and enjoyable. My parents also worked with Hummingbird and Kenneth to host a goodbye brunch the day after our reception, which turned out perfectly! Our guests loved being able to celebrate with us in such a gorgeous, unique venue, and we’ll always be so appreciative to Hummingbird and Kenneth for helping to provide us with a perfect wedding weekend!

Had our wedding at Hummingbird and couldn't be happier with our decision. Kenneth is a pro's pro and he and his staff are extraordinary. We were able to buy out the restaurant and side patio for over 6 hours and celebrate our ceremony, dinner, reception all under one roof (with the bonus of hosting our guests at the attached Hotel Indigo). Planning a wedding without coordinators was stressful until we started to meet with Kenneth. He and his staff swiftly took care of all the behind the scenes details from menu selection, setup, teardown, food and drink service, and coordinating with our vendors like our DJ with setup and all associated questions / needs they had. We brought our own decor and Kenneth not only decorated the entire venue but made the vision come to life better than we ever expected. Can't forget about the food. Almost every guest at our wedding commented that our dinner was one of the best they've had at a wedding which would have made our decision to book at Hummingbird worth it alone (the amish chicken especially was a hit). The bar service was incredible as well. Kenneth designed 2 killer signature cocktails that not only fit our theme but were possibly more well-received than dinner. We want to thank all the good people at Hummingbird one last time for hosting our family and friends. They made our wedding as special as possible and I can't recommend them enough. We'll be back for dinner regularly!

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, Columbia Firehouse is a remade firehouse that offers a unique dining experience. Housed in an old fire station, this establishment serves delicious American cuisine and classic cocktails with a modern twist. The historic barroom features brass rails, dark wood, and stained glass, creating a nostalgic ambiance. Guests can enjoy happy hour specials and indulge in regional beers, classic cocktails, and a decent wine selection.
Fab brunch in the old Fire Station in Alexandria. Bit pricey but the food is delicious. Highly recommend the hash. Good bottomless coffee too. We turned up without a reservation, but most other good places in town you needed to book. Fab selection of beers too.

This place is amazing, our new go-to place when guests come into town. One of the few places in old town Alexandria that has not fallen into the trap of mediocrity due to the high volume of visitors (like the majority of the restaurants in old town unfortunately). Everything we ate was excellent, HOWEVER the Thai Curry Mussels were the highlight of the meal. Simple yet unique, defiantly a must try. Then if the food and atmosphere were not enough our server Bianca just made the night. She was helpful, upbeat, and simply wonderful. Oh and they have a legit happy hour as well.

What a delight! It was a cold winter's night as we walked briskly along the streets of Old Town Alexandria. Coming into this charming, warm restaurant was a very welcome change. The decor is lovely, the service very good and the food is tasty. We were very happy with our whole meal. It is both kid friendly and a fun hangout for adults, which is hard to accomplish. We recommend going for a nice dinner or just a drink at their inviting bar. P.S. The biscuits were almost worth fighting over!

Fun atmosphere and delicious food. Make sure to ask to sit in the enclosed patio, and enjoy the exposed brick walls and old decor. The prices are on the pricier side, but the food was great. Definitely get the melted jack cheese as an appetizer.

The place is beautiful. I really appreciate a bartender who make me another cocktail cause it was too strong for me and didn’t charge again. The only thing I didn’t like too much was a burger. Kind of tasteless. But the mussels were delicious

We visited this place late on a Sunday, they had the bar menu available for food. Great variety of drinks; we ordered the Firehouse burger which came with cheese, bacon, garlic aioli and BLT, it was a decent burger specially for a late night menu, it didn't have a lot of flavor but it wasn't bad. The service was great and order came out fast.
Bonita M — Google review
The restaurant is tucked on quiet street in Old Town. The atmosphere is unique in that each space creates a different ambiance and feeling. The room we dined in had low romantic lightning and brick walls that they gave the feel of historical nostalgia. The menu is limited in choices, we kept flipping it over thinking there were more options. However, hubby and I really enjoyed our food. Order the steak frites and cast iron shrimp with a side of spinach. The pork ribs are tasteful but come hungry because the portion is a nice size. Some at the table said their meal could benefit from a little more seasoning but overall everyone was pleased. Just be sure not to go over board on the honey biscuits, they were absolutely delicious. I am married to a beer lover and he was impressed with the selection of craft beers. We will definitely be going back for a beer and quick bite. @fallyns_foodie_excursions #fallynsfoodieexcursions #columbiafirehouse
