We visited Hideout Byron Bay as a group of 11 for Wednesday breakfast, and while the overall experience was pleasant, it left us with mixed feelings.
First, the service was excellent — the front-of-house staff were friendly, efficient, and quick with our orders. The food also came out in good time, which is always appreciated with a large group.
We ordered a variety of dishes including bacon, salmon, mushroom Benny, eggs on toast, coffees, and other drinks. However, when it comes to the value for money, it felt quite overpriced. For example, $30 for a single piece of bread, two slices of bacon, and two poached eggs seemed excessive, especially given the portion size.
The hollandaise sauce didn’t taste fresh and had a slightly unusual flavor, which took away from the overall dish. The poached eggs were cooked medium, which was okay, but nothing particularly special. The coffee was decent and probably the most satisfying part of the meal.
While the café has a nice vibe and great service, we felt the food didn’t quite match the high price tag. For what we paid, we expected more generous portions and a more refined taste.
Overall, a decent experience, but not the best value for a proper breakfast.
3 stars.
