Still, because it was crisp, it wasnt too bad. Now coming to the service. This was peak Sunday lunch hours. There was one, JUST ONE server running around everywhere. ONE chap at the kitchen counter managing the KOTs and the food being sent out. We waited over 30 minutes for our thali (not the 15-20 minutes we were told), we waited for the tissues, we waited for the jalebis, and yes.. we waited for the bill. Sigh! Cleanliness: I can understand a restaurant wanting to give off a rustic feel. Truly, i do. But i do not comprehend dusty tables, dusty table mats, dusty chairs, wet slippery floors, water on those floors constantly being mopped to one side coz God knows what was leaking. The cutlery and thali, though, looked clean. I say it as i see it. Would i go back? Probably, but it would take me a year or two, or more to return here because of the bad service and dusty ambience. We paid 1259 inclusive of 5%GST. Yes, in spite of the delayed service i did leave a tip. Not the servers fault if the owner is too cheap to employ more staff. Ive given this place 3 stars and all 3 are for their stellar food. I felt the need to take away 1 star for the hygiene issue and 1 for the service issue.

This was quite light in flavour. Would have preferred neer dosa with this. Chicken Ghee Roast along with 1 Malabar Parotha... 365/-. Boneless chicken with a nice robust masala. Liked the combo. And took an extra Parotha with it too. Tender Coconut Payasam... 190/-. Ground, tender coconut payasam. Topped with fried cashews. Mildly sweetened and light. Loved this too. Along with extra Parotha and Dosa, bill came to 1325/- plus taxes. And after Swiggy Dineout discount of 10%, paid... 1252/-, for 2 people.

We have visited the place on numerous occasions and have always gone back raving about the food and the interesting pairings. Went back today (13 Apr 25) after a long while and was disappointed to see how badly the place has deteriorated. Firstly, the place is not managed professionally. The tissue boxes on both the tables which we occupied were broken. The banana leaves which lined the plates in which they served the food were wilted and tattered. The wash basin was dirty and the tissue holder didn’t have any tissues. The food was the real deal breaker. Gone are the fluffy Idlis from 2023. Now you have oddly shaped, dense and hard idlis. The plain dosas were devoid of taste and turned chewy in no time. Then came the worst Vadas which I have ever ordered in a restaurant. They were fried to a dark brown/ blackish colour, hard, chewy and dense. The Vada batter was fermented (it is not supposed to be). But the absolute worst item on the menu was yet to arrive. That crown goes to the cold filter coffee. They probably prepared it ahead of time and put it in the fridge. The result is a thick, gloopy layer in top of the ‘coffee’ which anyway tasted like sweetened goat piss. The manager was not around when we were at the place. While walking back to my table after washing my hands at the wash basin, I happened to meet the chef and told him that the food quality had gone down drastically and that we wouldn’t like to visit the place anymore. ‘Theek hain’ he said nonchalantly. Who cares anyway it seems. The only thing which has gone up in this restaurant since our last visit are the prices. We paid ₹2880 for four plates of dosa (various combinations), one plate of idli mutton Saru and four filter coffees. Never going back!!

We were seated well by owner and he advised us on the menu. Misal Thali is something I avoid. I like simple Misal Pav. So we were given two options. Kolhapuri Misal and Puneri Misal. We ordered both. Kolhapuri for my son and Puneri for me. Within few minutes Misal arrived. A shallow bowl with Farsan and Misal cut, shev and mataki in it. Complete absence of potato and I didn't notice Pohe too. The sample what they call looked perilously red. At least the Kolhapuri version. Mine looked alright. They had given tiny bowl of Mataki , chopped onion , pair of pav and tuny bucket of Misal curry cut. Curd with tuti fruti was a novelty. My habit forced me to get a sense check of Misal content, ingredients and proportion. A scooped a spoonful of Misal with curry and found farsan with Mataki, boiled moth beans, thick shev just the way I like and should be in Misal. Thin shev is a blasphemy. I took the first bite. Nice crisp farsan and reasonably spicy Misal cut. Broke a piece of bread , dipped in the Misal and ate it. Fresh bread and nice Misal sample. I turned the contents inside out within the bowl and found nothing different than usual suspects in it. What was different was home made farsan , shev and nicely done Misal curry cut. Krishna the outlet manager explained how they make their own Masalas and farsan. The original Misal House is from Shirur and they have this branch in Pune. Pune outskirts have some amazing Misals and if you move towards Nagar Road the Misals there have crispy Farsan, basically papdi, thickish shev and shev. Good quality besan and oil is used to make it as best as they can. The onion is also little coarsely chopped and coriander was missing. A bowl is curd is something which is standard with it. Not to mention the mataki bowl. That's pretty much common. Since Misal wasn't too spicy I was happy to scoop one after another spoonful and nibble bread all along. Chopped onion were just to give a brief respite and curd to cool it down little bit. While second serving the manger advised me couple things . To try Kolhapuri Misal cut and he also have us a tiniest bowl of Ghee, clarified butter. Never seen ghee in Misal shop. Kolhapuri misal cut was fiery and it immediately elevated the pungency. Not too hot but good enough to burn the taste buds of the uninitiated. For veterans like me it wasn't much and went nicely with my original Misal bowl. In finsihed second Pav with this hybrid combination and ghee arrived. He urged us just to put the ghee in Misal. Never tried before. Didn't see any harm. I out half a spoon. It actually lifted the spirit of Misal. Ghee does that with any food. And especially home made ghee would turn any ordinary curry into heavenly potion. I can confidently say that the taste was very good, the quality and hygiene of food was very good, the staff at the hotel were very courteous and polite, the prices were very reasonable.Not once in the one month + dining here at Bangalore cafe, did I have a bad stomach or a cough or a cold. I have an affection for this hotel as this was my go to place for food the whole month, and I was able to see improvement in my mother's health and finally left after a month to Chennai.
