We were holidaying in Dartmouth.My granddaughter wanted to show me how she had progressed in her swimming recently, so we decided to go swimming. Looked on the website for times, and turned up at the correct time, only to be told that the times were wrong, of which the staff were very apologetic. The car park was pay and display, run by the council. We had turned up in 3 cars as there was a large group of us, to be told that the leisure centre couldn't do anything about it, due to it being council. So we returned later at the correct time. Paid the car park fees again, went to go swimming, only to be told that the lifeguard hadn't turned up, so the pool wasn't open. Immediately my 7 year old granddaughter burst into tears. I asked for the senior person on duty, to which I was told it was the person I was speaking too. The guy had a smug grin on his face, I asked was there only one lifeguard, of which there was. How can somewhere like this have only one lifeguard in the height of summer. There was no indication of when the pool might be open. So, one distraught 7 year, a group of angry parents, 2 lots of car parking fees, and no swimming. Then a waste of at least half a day of holiday being messed about. At least a sign outside to stop people paying the parking. Not a very well run or organised leisure centre.

So glad that we did! The beer was out of this world, Dartmouth ale is now up there in my top ten! The food was brilliant and came out in good time, I had the mackerel and it was super fresh, served with new potatoes and a nice sauce. The two young lads behind the bar were a credit to the pub, they were very attentive and also had a good bit of banter about them which is great to see. The pub is clean, well decorated and cosy. I feel so blessed to be able to go to a beautiful, hot, outdoor swimming pool, all over summer with my kids. I don't know where they find such amazing staff to but they are all so lovely and teaching my son to swim in this pool has been great, his actually swimming now and there is no way he would be swimming if it wasn't for this pool, he feels very safe in there. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced, not only for admittance, but for drinks, snacks and accessories too. The pool area and changing rooms are well maintained and clean. There’s also a grass bank & benches, so if you don’t feel like a dip, there’s plenty of room to chill out in the sunshine. I can’t praise it highly enough and would give 10 stars if I could! It is advisable to book online as there is a limited amount of spaces available for each session and turning ip without booking, could lead to a lot of disappointment and unhappy faces! In response to the (only) unfavourable review on here, you should bear in mind that the funding for the pool is completely from donations, funds raised by a very busy team of volunteers who give their own time to make this a success for the people of Dartmouth and its visitors. If you had booked online, you would have seen the session times. How can you expect someone to not have their lunchbreak just for you? The sense of entitlement is overwhelming here. To expect that member of staff to open up, just for you, and then carry on with his/her lunch is ridiculous. If something had happened to you or your family, apart from the fact that I doubt the insurance wouldn’t cover it, you would bow be complaining about the lack of assistance. Did you expect exclusive use of the pool, or once you’d been admitted would they then have to let anyone else in that turned up to? From the free car park, there is a toilet block (ladies and gents) off the grassed round car park, follow the track to a huge polytunnel and we were greeted by Keith and Alan. Very well set up and huge if you choose to walk the entire place. Great way to spend a couple of hours with little impact on the pocket.
