You can see the sea, the boats, Drake's Island, and on a clear day all the way out to the horizon. It’s such a peaceful spot, whether you’re walking, sitting with a coffee, or just taking in the fresh air. The park itself is very clean and well kept, with plenty of space for everyone. Families, couples, runners, and dog walkers all share the area in a really friendly way. There’s always something going on. Sometimes live music, small events, or just people enjoying the sunshine. The lighthouse adds so much character, and it’s great for photos too. It’s also close to cafés, ice cream stands, and restaurants, so you can easily spend a whole afternoon there. The atmosphere is relaxing, and it feels safe even in the evening when the lights come on along the seafront. It's a great place anyway, but all on street parking without a blue badge will cost you. We had no distance to walk really, and got some magnificent views of all the yachts and naval ships. There were lots of people taking advantage of the Tinside Lido down below. Our day there was on a beautiful sunny September afternoon which obviously makes everything so much better. We managed to fit in seeing the Mayflower Steps Memorial & Around the Barbican area too. Well worth the visit if you are in the area.

Tour guide gives an excellent talk in the downstairs rooms (takes about an hour so young children maybe bored) then you're allowed to wander on your own upstairs. You can take photos but no flash. Lovely side garden to the house and garden walks a little further out. Beautiful views over the River and you can walk down the steep hill to the waterside where you'll find beautiful formal gardens and cafe at the Orangery,views across the river over the sound where you can follow to the ferry or the other way along to the little stony beaches. There is a 2nd cafe at top of the hill near the house. Also toilets at both locations too.

I've lived here for 4.5 years now (after visiting for 27) and have never visited until yesterday. It's like a magical secret that Plymouth has kept well hidden for the sake of preservation and better still; mystery. It took my breath away when I first saw it. Due to its secretive nature it remains clean and unspoilt by those who may not appreciate historic hide aways such as this. The little arch way makes for a romantic kiss from your partner underneath it and welcomes you to explore the carvings etched into the walls (see image 2 of the ship). It backs onto some of the most historic buildings in Plymouth on the famous Barbican which literally means 'fortitude' and to know surprise given how well everything is protected and preserved. Highly recommend visiting this mysterious and yet welcoming suntrap of a garden where you will learn of its and the surrounding areas history!

Walking this in sections or riding the entirety are both fantastic, bikes can be hired for the day (Approx. 15 pounds) from Plymouth, Tavistock and Yelverton. The 21-mile trail takes you through the Dartmoor National park, small towns, over bridges and along quiet roads. It is such a peaceful and tranquil walk. We snuck off the track occasionally to take in woodlands or investigate little creeks which provide such magnificent photographs. The trail is brimming with Fauna, we had the opportunity to see native birds, sheep, Squirrels and the famous Dartmoor horses. A squirrel even dropped ½ a bagel and himself onto one of the group, I don’t know who was more shocked!

The park is littered with interesting historical ruins around the circuit of the lake and the fascinating shipwrecks to be found in the adjoining Hooe Lake. Although this park is perfect for picnics, dog walking and afternoon strolls I was unable to award it a perfect rating. There are no toilet facilities and nowhere to purchase refreshments. There is a small car park to be found at the entrance on Mayer Way and on street parking at the entrances at Plymstock Road and Kingfisher Way. The park is largely disabled access friendly (except for the lack of a toilet) however I would avoid the Mayer's Way entrance if access is a priority and use the Plymstock Road and Kingfisher Way as your initial point of entry.

It's not as big as central park and it doesn't have a kids playground but it's still lovely for a day out. Plenty of grassy areas for picnics and a woods/forest for a more off-road trek. The park used to have a city council plant nursery (now demolished) connected to the house at the Western end of the park. The park has many mature trees including English Oak (Quercus); Common Beech (Fagus) and a large Horse Chestnut (Aesculus) at it's centre. An area of wildflower meadow can be seen in Summer along the Southern edge of the park. A children's playground can be found in the Western part of the park, there are two wheelchair dedicated rides accessible by RADAR key available.
