The amenities and service staff were great, and the massages, pedicure, and lunch were enjoyable and relaxing as well. I did find that the way this spa handles the billing & tipping was a bit strange… We were given our lunch bill right after lunch, despite lunch being included in the package. I didn’t have to pay for lunch at that point but I did have the opportunity to leave a tip based on the lunch amount. The amount on that bill was higher than what I paid in the overall package (I noticed later), so naturally the tip was higher. I don’t mind that. What I did find strange was the fact the tipping amount recommendations (15%, 20%, etc) on the FINAL package bill were based on the total amount for the package INCLUDING lunch and my tip from lunch. Those things feel like a sneaky way to get higher tips from customers, which didn’t put a great taste in my mouth. What really bothered me was after I wrote my tip amount on the bill, I was informed that I could only leave a cash tip, so she gave me cash equivalent to my tip (in all $5 bills) and asked to split my tips up into individual envelopes for each service person who provided our treatments. I would highly recommend coming here with friends. The facility is clean, staff are incredibly friendly and the 3-course lunch was delicious. We went for water therapies early in the morning, so we found it not to be very busy and enjoyed having more space to ourselves. It definitely picked up around 10:30am. I had a facial treatment with Monica who did a fantastic job. She talked me through the treatment and provided valuable insight into my skin care routine. The facility itself is nice as you have plenty of lockers, the shower has great products, plus the getting ready stations have a blow dryer, straightener and curling iron - which was great for getting ready for our next event afterwards. The restaurant was a wonderful experience. It was not super busy, so that could have worked in our favour. The menu had lots of options. Our server, Jeremy, was highly attentive - kept our water glasses full and checked-in often. They have a slideshow showing pictures of all the different meal options. The portions were a great (see picture of grilled salmon with pea & orzo salad). The water therapies were nice - my only recommendation would be to add a dry sauna to the space. Overall, the water therapies package with lunch was worth it and I would go back.

It's a strange thing to compare it to other spas, but they have the best robes! And the small detail of asking your size for your slippers is a nice touch. We paid for a 60 minute massage and 18% gratuity with the expectation of using the other facilities (i.e. pool, sauna, spa). The check-in was a smooth experience at the reception. The attendant who showed me the locker had me join an unrelated trio and seemed in a rush to show us the area, so much of what was explained was inaudible to myself and the trio. When we went across the floor to use the pool and other facilities we entered into a fully occupied pool area. Not a single seat or cabana remaining. The facilities are shared with the hotel guests, so on a weekend it was completely overrun. With nothing else to do, we ended up leaving. He listened to exactly what I wanted, and was the perfect balance of gentle but deep enough to release tension. He was an expert, releasing the knots and muscles in a way that relieved so much pain immediately. He was almost like a physiotherapist with his expertise, releasing pressure points in the armpit to relieve pain in the shoulders. I felt so much better, one of the best massages I’ve gotten and I’ve had hundreds all over the world. I definitely had much better mobility and less pain, even the next day had no increased soreness. I will say they are almost double the price compared to my usual place, and even after my generous insurance ($160) I paid around $130 extra for an 80min massage. However I think it was worth it and such a special treat! There was a bit of a hiccup with scheduling that I was disappointed with, where after I scheduled over the phone weeks in advance, they called me the morning of asking me to come earlier. However, they did their best to make up for it and as long as it’s a one time issue, I will stick to giving them the full 5 stars. Overall absolutely wonderful, the only thing that would make it better is having a sauna in the facility however there are many other spas nearby to hop over to afterwards!

PREVIOUS REVIEW: Spa: overall the spa was nice, clean, and had a consistent theme going. On the smaller side - accommodates 3 people at a time it seems (3 massage rooms, 3 manicure/ pedicure chairs, etc)… I was the only person there at the time and couldn’t imagine being there with other people would of been congested and too much to me. Massage: relaxation massage was okay, have had better; was slightly inconsistent, what was done on the left side and the right side was totally different and random at that. The music stopped a couple times and I was in silence… eventually it was turned back on, the massage chair was extremely squeaky and made noise during the massage. Facial: the facial was nice, no complaints the products used left my face feeling clean and fresh! Manicure: my entire manicure was done with latex gloves on which was really weird and uncomfortable… The scrub wasn’t lathering into my skin properly because it was being rubbed in my the gloves… my entire spa session was done with no gloves on so why now.. I kinda of wanted to get up and leave, didn’t want the manicure. I chose the colour I wanted for my nails and she actually told me it was too close to my skin colour….. (Very brave statement to make in my opinion! Also an opinion I did not care to hear). She continued to tell me.. she is someone who tell they’re clients what’s going to make them look pretty…. To top off the “lovely”service, my cuticle oil was put on by a fully dressed (coat, boots, scarf, hat) and ready to LEAVE spa therapist, who’s last words to me were “I’m not trying to rush” …. (Note: it’s March 4th, the day it dumped snow, I understand you want to get home.. but I came down here in the same weather conditions you did…. and it made me think if service is always like this or service was like this because I came down on a snow day!) I was going to use the amenities they had but decided to LEAVE because it seemed like I was holding the spa up or something…. and had a sour taste in my mouth… I tipped out of decency, but I am turned off at the service that can be provided now a days.. it was beyond poor save your money! too expensive for what’s offered.. I was sent an email at 2:50pm reminding me about the 24hour cancellation policy, (my appointment is 2:45pm tomorrow… thanks for sending me a timely reminder 5 mins after the 24 hour mark…) 2. I have been to other spas in the GTA like the Ritz and they always have done something special for me on my birthday like a glass of champagne. I felt like the lady at the front desk was not that professional, and felt like our massage therapy was not worth the price. The lady who did my massage talked a lot, so it wasn’t that relaxing. The massage itself was in a hotel room and when the massage was done both of the ladies stayed in the room while me and my partner were getting changed, we had no idea they were still in the room they did not tell us, it would have been nice to have some privacy to get changed or at least let us know! The amenities were great just not a good experience with the massage therapy and I felt like for the price it didn’t feel that luxurious.

I must have been to every spa in Toronto, and the Hazelton by far is the best. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by every staff member. Generally the treatments were excellent. Professional, relaxing and respectful. The mud treatment is a bit different then other spas in that the prewash and rinse are done on the bed instead of rinsing on your own in a shower. Staying on the bed allows you to stay in relaxation mode which is preferred. A couple of ideas for improvement. First, While there is a juice bar where you can buy juices and bottled water, other salons offer cold water stations. There is a basic school-style fountain in the water therapies area but the water was room temperature, not cold, and you can only really drink a mouthful per visit meaning you are up and down quite a bit. Second, I never thought I’d miss it but there was no spa music playing in the common areas or in the wet therapy room. It does really help with the relaxation to not have to focus on the actions of the therapists or other guests. A real miss in my opinion. Definitely will visit again.

The form was a bigger issue for me than the waters. Writing by hand is often painful. I commented about it and got such a dirty look, not from the girl checking me in but from her colleague with the red hair. The dressing area needs another bench. There is room for one. We selected the ocean float for the first time. The amenities are clean and well kept. The girls at the front are lovely and professional and provided us with instructions. We got our earplugs which we took home with us so we can re-use in a future experience. There are 3 main float pods in the facility and you get to change and shower before entering the float tank. The tanks are on the smaller end however both of us fit comfortably. I can see how it would be more difficult for larger individuals to do tandem floating. The instructions are to wash off with body wash and shampoo before entering the pod. You get this neck float pillow device which supports the head while you float. The pro-tip is that you have to fully relax and submerge your ears beneath the epsom bath or else you end up straining your neck. It took me about 20 minutes to fully adjust to the tank and I was then able to fully enjoy the floating and peaceful sounds playing in the background. We also tried turning off all the lights at the end and was still very peaceful and relaxing. At the end, you shower off and there are warm towels and bathrobes waiting. There is also a drying station outside the pods for you to rehydrate and dry off with the dyson hairdryer! I had one issue with our room and it was fixed in literally minutes. Underground Parking is across the street, so a bit inconvenient, but unlike most other hotels, they did not charge huge fees for parking. Parking was included in the room cost. A pleasant surprise. The grounds are wonderfully maintained and very pleasant for walking. Lots of nature surrounds the Old Mill grounds. And peaceful and quiet. You have no idea you are in the centre of the city….And it’s close to the subway if you want to avoid Toronto traffic gridlock. By subway, it took us about 15 minutes to get to the CN Tower, the Aquarium (a must see) and the Roger’s centre. This was the first time I ever took the Toronto subway, so this was an experience too….

The salon is well thought out, receptionist welcoming, I liked the diverse selection of drinks although I booked with the intention of having a snack / light meal during my booking but found out you didn’t have a food licence. When it came to the service I was incredibly disappointed. I’m not too sure if the beautician had extensive experience but the quality of work she performed was no different to a cheap mani / pedi bar charging $20 a pop. My feet were unevenly soaked. The first foot was splashed with water and she proceed to tidy the cuticles but at the end I started pushing them back myself before the varnish was applied at which point she offered to reassess. Feet were scrubbed for barely 20/25 seconds. At the beginning of the appointment I specifically pointed out where I had build up of a little dry skin which she didn’t attempt to scrub at all but only used an effective file at the end after requesting feedback. The ‘cheese grater style’ foot scrubber / pumice she used first time round was absolutely rubbish. Please get rid of it I’m not too sure what it’s meant to achieve but it does nothing for your feet. Worst of all the massage my favourite bit was an extended application of moisturiser and was completed in a couple of 2 minutes. I’m based in Europe and I waited to have my pedicure in the US and specifically your establishment firstly because service and the whole tipping culture is huge in the US and beauticians typically give of their best to secure ‘the bag’ and secondly the write up in Business of Fashion gave the impression I would get an outstanding experience which I was happy to pay for. If you are young and after the hype of some where buzzing, hip and trending, and not overly fussed with the actual service then this is the place for you. But if you are a mature customer after an excellent pedicure, a relaxing environment and highly delivered experience then this isn’t the place for you.

The service was amazing. If you are hungry, the amount of food is just right. I sat there for a few hours eating, drinking, listening to a podcast, and knitting. I was after the experience, and being in the flagship store I was determined to get it. I love their fragrances and all the different formats of their fragrances. However the service seemed very indifferent to me being their or spending so much money on their products.
