The atmosphere is probably the best thing here. Dark with above lighting creates a nice space to dine or meet with a partner. Drinks were very good - wine and cocktails. Service was excellent 👌. Really attentive service to the table and was there for several hours. Food was very good and went for the different tapas plates. Tapas bravas with both the garlic and tomatoe sauces was a winner. Also enjoyed the padron peppers which are crucial to any tapas. Tuna salad was good but maybe some seasoning in here would have boosted it. Made a reservation based upon the reviews but were disappointed when we were greeted by a bouncer on a Friday evening, demanding to know if we had a reservation before we could set foot inside. Our pate came straight from a jar, which it was served in, and the wait staff had absolutely no idea what was going on with any of the tables. I went to this restaurant with my girlfriend to celebrate and had high expectations considering the high price and good reviews (including a Bib Gormand from Michelin). Ordered £120 worth of food, with most of it being mediocre/passable at best. All the food looked good but tastewise some were sorely lacking. The onion flatbread was good, the crispy lamb belly was great and the tempura broccoli was amazing. On the other hand the fried chicken massaman was chewy where fried chicken should be crunchy, the jersey chaat was tough and just tasted like boiled potatoes, the koftas were passable but I’ve had far better in York for far cheaper, the pork belly tasted like cheap Peking duck (even though the meat itself was obviously high quality). The mackerel pho was downright terrible; soft skin on the mackerel, watery, tasteless. Portion sizes were small, but this is to be expected in a fine dining establishment. The service itself was good, our server was attentive, but we were served food on chipped plates on three separate occasions (I only bothered taking photos the second and third time because I was so surprised at the low standard). Given the high price, this is unacceptable. The restaurant atmosphere was quite good generally, very modern, although some of the decor was very tacky ( gorilla head lightbulb, pig ). I’m personally ambivalent on the open kitchen. Overall, not worth the high price, other restaurants in York offer better food for cheaper. A generous portion of za'atar fried chicken to start which was crispy on the outside, moist on the inside and delicious to taste all the way through! Green harissa paste and preserved lemon mayo drizzled over the top to complete the experience. Main was a super-tender, unctuous, beef cheek which tasted and felt wonderful to eat. Chef said the meat was marinated in double chicken stock and prepared with ras-el-hanout spices including cinnamon, cumin and ginger, plus loads of red wine. The presentation of this dish was outstanding. Service was great but I am sad the restaurant wasn't full. Altogether a great lunch and very well worth making a special journey to (come on Michelin).

First impressions on arrival were good as place seemed nice and cosy. Waited 15 minutes before ordering and it would have been nice if we could have first ordered drinks. However, we were not as impressed. The little restaurant is quaint and nicely decorated. There is soft music playing. This is all very nice. Where we were disappointed was the food. Why ? Well, we ordered the mixed grill for 2 and a plate of calamari (my favourite). There were 2 other tables of 2 people so we didn't expect our food to take nearly 40 minutes to arrive. The food when it arrived was a pair of what the menu describes, but only one each of a burger, chicken kebab & a pork kebab. Now whilst nice, the cheese stuffed sausage being the best, it didn't sing of Greek flavours, the burger had some rosemary sprinkled on it, and the rest could have been a mixed grill from any pub. 2 tables of 4 came in. My calamari arrived and was coated in a nice batter. However, it was overcooked. Oh, under our mixed grill was about 3 kilos of plain wedges, the mass-produced frozen ones. We also noticed that everyone was ordering the same mixed grill for 2. No one ordered any actual Greek food, and I'm assuming that the poor guy upstairs is just cooking this all day long and lost his thread of true Greek food. The service is a little slow but ok. The house wine is very nice and all the prices were good. So, would we return, no. Simply because I don't think he could cook individual Greek dishes very well as he is snowed under grilling loads of meat for the platters, and there was very little in the way of greek flavouring. Another plus was that it all arrived hot. If you go in and it's busy, you have a lengthy wait for your food, which is similar to many pub mixed grills.
