Popped in for brunch on a Sunday and the service was truly amazing. A lovely guy called Alfie looked after us. I was enquiring about any vegan options and Alfie was so patient and kind, he went out of his way to arrange for the vegetarian breakfast to be made vegan. I asked if it was possible to turn the music down upstairs as I have hearing loss and expected it to be a bit of a hassle, Alfie was an angel and acted like it was no big deal at all and very quickly resolved this. Alfie was just the most friendly, sweet and helpful guy, nothing was too much trouble for him to help us with, and he came across as a really genuine person that takes the time to treat all customers like they're friends, he created such a welcoming vibe and I felt really at ease even though I'm a bit awkward with my hearing! It was the best service I've had in a long time, and if Alfie isn't a manager he definitely deserves a raise, he made us want to come back again and again. The only slight suggestion I have, separate to anything practical, is for the menu to outline vegan options. I used to come in many years ago and they always had vegan options noted on the menu. There wasn't anything stated as vegan on the menu and the veggie breakfast had to be modified rather than being able to order a vegan breakfast. If I hadn't been planning to meet my friend there I might have been put off and assumed vegans weren't really provided for. It would go a long way just having a few options on the menu or noting what is vegan. Simple stuff like a vegan fry up (hash browns, beans, tomatoes, toast with vegan margarine, mushrooms, vegan sausages), avocado on toast, beans on toast. My wife, daughter and I went in Sunday night after watching Queen (very good) and booking a table for 8:30. So, we turned and was seated. The place is nice and cozy inside. After 10 minutes I asked for a menu to which a waiter muttered yes or something. We waited another 5 minutes and askdd again. Now there was 1 table of 4 and a table of 8 all eating. So asked again and got menus. The waiter took drinks orders about a further 5 mins later. The starters arrived and were nice in all fairness. However the pickles were insipid. One just chopped onion with some flecks of parsley, the mango chutney was jam - smooth and sugary and the garlic was off white and more like yoghurt. We all said not nice. One whole hour later and after asking 4 times, restaurant near empty now with just us 2 others and the 1 table of 4. Well the mains arrived and then a few minutes later the sides. Again being fair, the mains were very nice. Wife and daughters tasted exactly the same but were different from the menu. The vegetable curry was lacking taste and watery. We all didn't like it. At nearly 10pm we abandoned the last course paid (fifty quid) and left. Mains & starter good, rest bad and service very poor. We have had better food for same money that left enough for the next day. Can't say we will visit here again. Mediocre food, bad service.

The place was not giving spanish vives but otherwise It looked modern and well decorated. Fast service and very polite staff. Food wise...not good. As a spanish customer I did not see authentic spanish food. The croquetas had mashed potato and cheese in them, not bechamel , which overpowered the flavour of the ham so we could not taste it at all, the calamary were battered like english fish and chips and lacked flavour, not salted at all either. And we also had the shared plater where they put a mix of veg on top of the bread that overpowered the flavour of the toppings. The olives were good tho. The idea of spanish food was good but the taste was a disappointment. And we left hungry as the taste of them dishes was not worth spending any more money. A shared appetizer platter, the 2 tapas dishes and 2 soft drinks cost us 35 pounds, we wont be coming back but thanks for the fast and good service.

My daughter (a student at Hull Uni) recommended going for her birthday. We went on a Sunday lunchtime. From the outside, it lacked a bit of 'kerb appeal' but don't let that put you off. We each had a a starter which were well priced and the right size. The mains were all beautiful though. I had the mixed grill. The skewered chicken was the juiciest grilled chicken I've ever had. We were there Saturday morning and it was humming but they found us a great spot by the window. Very friendly staff and cool vibe. The food was excellent, if I was nitpicking I would mention that it took a while to come out so if you are in a rush keep that in mind. Pleasantly surprised. I'm always skeptical that the food at these chain places are little is more than microwave meals on a nice plate. Maybe they are, maybe they're not but the food here was very nice, it was good to find selection of dishes beyond the usual pasta and pizza. Service was pleasant and prompt with the young staff managing to the balance of being attentive without mithering or being overbearing. Really one of the best Sunday dinners we’ve had, on par with some of the best restaurants in East Yorkshire. The service, though, on the other end of the spectrum, the blind leading the blind, 1 hour to eat on a Sunday afternoon that had 10 covers in (not at all busy) 3 waiters, all pleasant, but running around doing a lot of nothing. 10 minutes to get menus to our table, 20 minutes for drinks, an hour for food. I could see other tables with disgruntled faces, some would get food, but sides were at least 5 minutes after they got mains, we had to chase for drinks orders, chased for cutlery etc. I could see the volume of missed opportunities for them to get more revenue for drinks, but just didn’t capitalise on it, so it was lots of tables with people sat not doing much, which took the vibe away. The food absolutely made up for it though, however won’t rush back.

The menu was creative and everything we ordered was full of flavour and beautifully presented. Food was fantastic and the menu a great selection of dishes. I had duck carpaccio which was melt in the mouth, halibut which came with an amazing sauce and a chocolate torte which was rich (I don't normally have dessert but the quality of the first 2 courses convinced me). Price for 2 with 3 courses and a few drinks came to about £85 which was well worth it. The staff were friendly and offered good advice regarding menu and wine choices. The staff were friendly and welcoming and incredibly tolerant as my friends and I made our way through several delicious, strong drinks. Online, the menu looks a bit strange with Filipino food, hummus and burgers but made much more sense when we got there. We arrived and were absolutely blown away by the view. The service was fantastic and even when the bar was a little slow, the waitress kept us informed at all times. We shared the vege starters which were ok. We were instead recommended an entirely different burger and to order an EXTRA side of prawns, which at first we were told would be the same price as the surf n turf, but later we were told that it would cost more. We ended up ordering the harissa salmon (with chips instead of potatoes) and the baconeater burger. Our wait for these dishes were very long, around 40-50 minutes. Once receiving them, we noticed that not only did the salmon not come with the chips we asked for, but that our portion sizes were laughably small. We could have complained about the potatoes, sure, but after waiting 50 minutes we were too hungry to bother. Luckily, after the long wait, the food was quite good. The food options on the menu were excellent. My partner and I ordered the jerk salmon and the jerk trinidadian chicken respectively. The jerk salmon usually comes with one of two sauces but they gave us both which was a huge plus! The jerk trinidadian chicken was amazing, it comes with their jerk bbq sauce and, considering I'm not usually one for bbq sauce, it was absolutely amazing, a perfect balance of tang and spice. The jerk salmon was very good as well, a grilled flavour combined with both of the sauces having two very strong differing flavours; with one being strong, spicy and aromatic and the other being rich and creamy. Both of our mains came with house fries which were very good considering fries are quite basic - seasoned very well and nice and crispy. Our waiter/bartender was a cool guy, took care of us all night and made sure we were enjoying the food and that our drinks weren't getting too empty. We went on a Monday, which offers a 2-4-1 on certain cocktails. To put it lightly my partner and I took full advantage of this lol. We ordered a decent variety of drinks and all of them were amazing. For our meal, we opted to start with the calamari and garlic mushrooms. Both of these were delicious, but we loved the mushrooms so much we had to order another portion! We then had a Porterhouse steak each, which were cooked to perfection. Alongside these we ordered the fries, onion rings and pepper sauce, which for us, were the ideal accompaniments. After these first two courses we were too full to try any of the desserts, but we imagine the options are just as tasty as everything else on the menu. Despite it being a very busy night, we couldn't fault the service we received. The servers were very attentive and ensured we were well looked after all evening - they really made us feel at home. We can't recommend the Lantern enough. Everyone should experience this hidden gem at least once. We'll certainly be back when we're next in the area!

It was like stepping back in time or going to a little taverna in Greece. Very old style, proper family run restaurant with fantastic customer service. On arrival we were greeted and asked if we'd like our coats hanging up. We ordered our drinks and were seated in a comfortable sofa in the bar where we looked through the menu and ordered our food. My husband opted for the fillet steak, chips and onion rings, garlic sauce and I ordered the fillet steak strogganoff with rice. We were then seated at our table. Really nice outdoors for good weather, and a lovely warm and atmospheric inside. The place is quite small but that adds to the ambiance. There's a load of great drinks on tap and the menu is pretty varied. We went for the pieminster pies, which while they are a bit pricey were excellent. Can get quite busy but they do have a decent sized outdoor area too with heaters. Good bar menu for food which was decently priced and good quality/nice. Decent range of drinks too, again reasonably priced. The service was good, very friendly, we had some good chats with the landlord who was a nice friendly guy and told us a little bit about the area. We’ll visit Old Town again and will definitely return here and would recommend it.

Well a abysmal experience compared to my last review. I don't know what happened here - lack of staff, lack of training, maybe both. But here goes. My wife & I popped in at about 7pm. So it was quiet. A few drinkers, some playing pool and 2 sitting outside. First thing I noticed was about half a dozen tables that hadn't been cleared, some outside some in. So sat down. Looked at menu and proceded to bar to order. Wife wanted a chicken burger, no gherkins and with a mac n cheese topping. That was OK. I wanted a beef burger with nduja sausage and jalapeño- nope out of stock, OK the one with monster munch, nope out of stock also, so opted for the one option as other had mango chutney which I don't like. Added breaded and fried mozzarella and jalapeño sticks on the side. We got 2 drinks included. Total £18. So our food arrives and we have no cutlery, waitress dashes off to get some plus the sticks. Took a couple of minutes but ok, food was hot. Well, I had literally half the chips the wife had, however, half of hers were raw !! The burger bun was basic which is OK. However my sauce looked like it had been smeared on with a scraping. The burgers themselves were alright. The sticks though were empty husks. A smear of cheese round the inside and a few minute chippings of jalapeño. These were awful to be fair and at just under 1 pound each, very disappointing. Oh, the table next to us had dirty plates on it and the waitress didn't remove them on her 2 visits to us nor did a check back. The beers are good ads to be expected and there are a range of tvs showing sport dotted around. Overall this has gone down hill compared to my last visit as reviewed below. If this didn't have the extras (live entertainment tvs pool tables and game machines) I'd rate this as 1 STAR. 1 extra star for the facilities. This was 3 years ago: This was a visit from a recommendation. So glad we went. There ate lots of pubs around doing food but rarely does one stand out. Well this one does. It's very clean inside and the plentiful tables were being turned round regularly as well. We both picked a mixed grill with a drink for a tenner. Althougj the played looked small, it had plenty on it. Cooked just right a medium rate steak, spicy sausage, gammon syeak and chicken breast, salad and chips. It was all well seasoned and piping hot. The drinks options were beets under 5%, wine, Cider and jin ! Service wad quick and efficient and our eaitress did a timely check back. Some mixed hrills are stupidly large whereas this was just right. There's loads of parking available and for warmer weather, outside seating. They do a different theme meal deal each weekday & quiz nights etc. There are a couple of pool tables and quite a few games machines dotted around as well as large tvs playing sport. Pleasant background music was playing. Exceptional food, lovely and clean inside, polite friendly staff. Fab well worth a visit.

Even had water and pretzels brought to us and refilled with no prompt during visit and that was with a staff changeover. I'm really not much of a cocktail person but the three I had were delicious. The restaurant itself is tucked away in a lovely part of Hull near the Minster so well worth getting there a few minutes early and having a stroll around. The greeting was great. We were 10 mins early so had a quick drink downstairs before being seated. The dining area is really nice, split into a couple of rooms and has a real nice atmosphere. Now the food. As the venue is above a bakery they give you some complementary sourdough and focaccia to munch whilst you decide on the menu. We had the sourdough and held back on the focaccia to have later. Spoiler, we never did as we were too full. We toyed with the two course Sunday roast menu, but decided to skip starters and get the shared roast first and decide later if we wanted desert. Second spoiler, we didn't have desert as we were too full. Onto the main event - The food started to arrive and then it kept coming and coming and coming and coming. The sharing roast had the lot - pork, beef and chicken with fantastic crackling. There were the obligatory huge Yorkies, roasties, pigs in blankets, veg, cauliflower cheese and, unexpectedly, beef patties and buttermilk fried chicken thighs, a whole table-full of food. ALL of the food was fantastic. The beef was melt in the mouth, the chicken was tender, the pork was juicy, the patties and buttermilk chicken were delicious, the roasties were lovely, I could go on and on but would be writing for another 30 minutes. The gravy was delicious and had the floating bits from the roasting pan juices that all proper gravy should have. There was so much food that we bagged up some and took it home so not to waste it. Then there were the staff. The main server was a joy; she was so helpful when we had questions and just a genuinely lovely person. She made you feel relaxed and really welcome. The other staff we spoke to were also excellent. every one of them was friendly and looking to help. I cannot recommend Hearth enough - great location, great atmosphere, great food, LOTS of food, great staff all making for a very pleasant Sunday.

I had the double bacon burger which was super delish, the wings are great and the buffalo sauce is a perfect mouth watering medium flavor, the corn dogs are high end good quality, the Mac and chz could be a bit cheesy-er but still very nice, my English husband loved the Yorkshire bleu burger, I also love the cheese posh "chips" fries. Received an extremely warm welcome on arrival and the attentive service continued throughout the meal. Perfectly cooked Prawns followed by braised Pork and Clams. The star of the show however was the Steak with Chimichurri.
