It’s a huge departure from white tablecloth silver service and military brigades of straight-back servers of some of the fancier hotel restaurants. Great playlist, loads of Talking Heads and somehow quiet enough you can have conversations without raising your voice but buzzy enough to not feel stale. That said, the elegance runs through a seriously stunning menu, a menu that starts with a ‘northern welcome’ of bread and butter served with an onion broth I could have chugged by the gallon. Standouts are the crab and tomato tart, a tartare on beef dripping toast, a woodland mushroom and yeast foam, the theatre of the cheese course served table-side, and the magnificent tipsy cake. This is a real snarl at those ‘you’d need a takeaway when you get home after 12 little courses’, we basically rolled out of there. Everything is full of surprises, table-side service and a little extra touch, but none of it feels over-the-top or hack whatsoever. The servers are proud of the food and it shows. Both the wine pairing and the drinks pairing are so well thought out, with two lovely sommeliers who with their bafflingly detailed knowledge make everything simple to understand. The sake with the tart and umeshu whisky pairings are outrageous. As we sipped our tea and cake, the hotel fire alarm went off. We felt so terrible for the staff but their professionalism and friendliness remained unmoved and the way it was handled was really great, given it was 11pm on a Saturday. We were pressured into checking out the food by the staff. At face value it seemed to look ok so we sat down. Sadly after this point any hopes of a good meal came to an end. On our last trip we were fortunate enough to be offered a discounted net due to feedback from our previous session which was just a genuine point around ensuring staff are clear on the changes to the game format they had recently brought in as it was confusing. The staff led by Grace couldn’t do enough for us both pre and during the session for us and the kids. It was so nice that I wanted to be able to buy food as a bit of a thank you but they had run out of most things due to the popularity of bookings which wasn’t an issue. Kids enjoyed their net as usual with both kids getting their highest score ever at 96 and 51, my better half a hundred and Grace and her staff get to host the youngests 7th birthday party off the back of it so everyone’s a winner! The portions were excellent value for money. We got the breakfast muffin, bagel and pancakes. The muffin and bagel had a really generous slice of tofu in. The patty in the muffin was really tasty and the muffin itself was soft. The bagel was tasty (think they’re using Le Vie bacon which is my favourite!) but it was a bit dry. This can be easily helped by ketchup. Both the bagel and muffin are £5 which I though was great value. The pancakes were a lovely treat as you don’t often find vegan American style pancakes. Exactly what you want from a hash brown, crispy and tasty. I also got a cappuccino which was nice coffee. The staff were immediately welcoming and helpful. The venue is small and simply but perfect for its purpose. We definitely would have been fine with just one of the bigger breakfast times each, but wanted to try more. A muffin or bagel from here would be a great way to start any morning.

However that’s kinda where my expectations were met everything else was pretty disappointing The burger was small and arrived cold, the tots portion were really stingy for the £7 they cost and the “crispy” onions on them were really chewy and stale. It’s great that there’s more vegan places around but maybe if they spent less time/money on branding and more time on making an actually decent, fairly priced product I’d come back. We failed to see what security risk we would pose after the amount of girls attending the event was already disclosed in our original booking. Whilst having this long discussion outside in the cold other party goers were entering the club in large numbers some were all female groups and some were all male groups so we were baffled to understand what security risk we posed! However after all this we were denied entry to the club at this point we did not want to enter anyway we just wanted a refund for the £225 we had paid for the entry already but we were advised this was something we could discuss with the manager on Monday so not only were we being denied entry into the club but we were also told to leave without a refund all this because we wanted to celebrate my friends birthday! In my experience I do not feel we were denied entry due to being a security risk but do to our ethnicity as other races were able to enter without even being asked if they were on the guest list. I am hurt to know that racism is still very much alive and this discrimination is still happening in this day and age. Bijou is an urban club playing urban music surely they would expect people of my ethnicity to want to experience the atmosphere and DJS at their club! I am disgusted by our experience and would never recommend this club!!!!!!

They have the friendliest staff and you can tell they really care about the service they provide. When we ordered to take-out they offered free delivery to our house instead so we didn't have to wait for the food to be prepared. When the food arrived they even added a free pizza and extra wings too. Every time we have ordered from deluxe the food has always been delicious. Me and my family can definitely recommend!

TLDR; it's sensational. We were looking for a place to eat coming from Scotland and MLK came up. Chicken sandwich was incredible, chicken was packing flavour and just the right amount of cheese to not be overpowering. Bread was crispy, no flop at all and held its shape. Sometimes these bigger sandwiches and burgers can fall apart as soon as you go near it, not here. Beef loaded fries tasted phenomenal as well. The meat was very nicely seasoned with hints of heat and smoky. They use a Chipotle burger sauce alongside a regular ranch type sauce, both tasted great. Can't really fault it. Beef burger was top tier. Again nicely seasoned, good amount of salad to help break through the meaty texture. Nice and juicy, good level of crust on the patty (I wouldn't have minded a bit more but I'm nitpicking). Only slight criticism with the burger is maybe slightly too much sauce on it but that's a minor blemish on an otherwise excellent burger.
