There was no oregano on the pizza. Asked for oregano and the waiter explained that they don't use oregano, despite it stating on the menu. The kids' Chicken was overcooked as well, to the point that it ended up all over the floor when it was cut into. It was a complete disaster from start to finish. We complained and got our money back. I ordered exactly the same food and this week it was great, hot and cooked perfectly. 5 star when asked it was cooked by the Kitchen manager, who doesn't always cook all meal's. The kitchen manager obviously cares. I have given 3 stars as the first meal was a 1 star and this a 5star as you will see in the pictures. I would like to review again as if the food stays this good I will definitely recommend Burton House. Consistency is key to customers returning. Deserves the update to 4 stars as we had a fish and chips and lasagne, a meal worth the money and very hot. Would recommend 👌

Considering the restaurant was practically empty not sure why it was over an hour wait. No one came to ask if the food was ok. All the meats where burnt had to get a refund for my smothered chicken as it was so hard you couldn't even cut through it. Childs mash was literally a spoonful amount too with lumpy gravy. The restaurant was empty but for a handful of diners. The waitress placed us on the worst table for two in the pub. She asked if this table was ok. I said no can we be moved to the table on the other side of the partition wall which was empty. She said no because someone has asked for the table when booking. However there was no reserved table sign on the table. The other tables of two which were better located were all empty as well. I am Indian so did she display unconscious racism by placing us on the worst table. When all the other tables for two were empty. I showed my disappointment in her placing us at this table when the restaurant was empty. She came back be placed us on another table for two which was on the other side of the partition. After when other white customers for a table of 2 came into the restaurant, they were not placed on the bad table which we were placed on. Even two old white ladies who were there before us weren’t seated at this bad table which is in a pathway to the other tables. They had arrived before us. I would understand if the pub was busy and then given this bad table. But to offer the bad table to the brown customer is bad practice. I think it’s unfair to be treated this way because of their unconscious racism. This did ruin the meal for me. This was our first time in Bicker. We were on our way to Sandringham for the Robbie Williams concert.

We arrived 20 minutes later to a warm welcome and such cosy surroundings. Having never been here before we were shown to our seats, advised that the menus change every two weeks and sometimes dishes are replaced every few days. Wow, what a menu. No sign of pate, soup of the day as starters, or ham egg and chips on the mains. Instead what greeted us was a menu full of delicious dishes, with options of having a tapas style evening or traditional three course. Tonight we opted for three courses of gastro delight. We both had the scotch egg to begin, accompanied with the endless dish of firm, juicy olives. The scotch egg itself was delicately seasoned with a delicious fondant egg. Alongside was the homemade piccalilli. For mains my husband had the filet stake with trimmings which he said was delicious. I had the seabass with fondant potatoes which was cooked so well and I left nothing. Finally even though there was no space, we couldn't resist the sticky toffee pudding having seen it pass us to other tables. It was such a light sponge, plus the ice cream allowed me to indulge in more. In summary this is not your traditional pub fayre, but a higher end restaurant with seriously good food, a wonderful setting and fantastic staff. We will be going again.

We both chose Andy's Steak and ale pie one with chips and pas and the other with mash and veg. We were astonished at the portion size when it arrived and couldn't believe the amount of steak covered by the pastry. It was delicious and we struggled to eat it all. The menu is varied but when we asked what curry of the week was we were told it was just a chicken curry. I think customers need a better description as we were not the only customers to ask and choose something else. I think it is just a matter of under selling it. Glad I went for Andy's Steak and Ale pie though. It was amazing!

Right round the corner from Lake view Lodges where we were staying so super convenient. Fantastic, friendly service - just the right level of attentive without being overbearing. However, between the beautiful thatched roof, quaint interior and delicious food it will be a place we will certainly be mentioning as a highlight of our trip. We all ordered the fish finger sandwich which had no right being as good as it was! Fresh country loaf bread, Tartar sauce that was super tangy and perfectly crisp and light battered fish. I was certain it was haddock too (which I would say is the superior of the large white fish) but I didn't have much time to mull on that as I slammed it down in record time. Me and the other half both had the carvery and both opted for beef and pork. We sat in the conservatory which I can only say it felt sitting in a waiting room , no atmosphere at all really. I'd said to my husband that the food needs to be really good for me to want to come back. Well, the chef knocked it out of the park! Mine, particularly, was lovely! Massive plate and the biggest gammon steak I've ever been served, cooked perfectly! The chips are like chip shop chips and are fab! I'd pop in just for the chips! My husband's burger didn't particularly look attractive, but he said it tasted delicious, which is the main thing. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture. He said he would've preferred the burger to be pressed out more, which would also mean the burger would fill the bun instead of looking like a misshapen meatball in the middle. But again, he said it tasted really good. Not keen on the chopping board plate though. I'd started eating mine before I thought to take a picture, but it doesn't represent just how big that gammon steak and plate was! We'll definitely be back for the gammon! 👌

They were our 'go-to' Chinese in Boston, but after similar issues we've decided to never go back. However this last time we had an appalling experience. The food was ok but the waitresses were very rude and seemed to go to every other table apart from ours. We ordered our second round of drinks 3 times and when advised were we’re still waiting for them one of the waitresses said “we are busy as you can see”. Starters were excellent, and was looking forward to the rest of the meal, however it went downhill from there, very quickly. The pork was inedible, it was extremely dry and hard, and no amount of gravy could make it better. The Yorkshire puddings, burnt. No. My apple crumble and custard was stone cold, sent it back to be heated and ended up waiting around 20 mins for it to come back. Also the staff seemed extremely rude, some of the male staff were pushing their way through when people were stood up, even young children playing. The female staff seemed to have an attitude and didn't want to be there either. This was up there with one of the worst meals I've had, but not the worst as the veg was edible 🤣 however I ended up leaving as hungry as I went in.

Used to often go for meals before the pandemic and really looked forward to going back again tonight especially as it was for my husbands birthday. The menu is not the same as advertised on the website, it was a very reduced menu. Had a starter and main meal and was only there an hour, didn't even stop for coffee. With regard to the food served, I have never had garlic mushrooms served on what looked like thick sliced white bread (toasted) and thin sliced mushrooms, I couldn't taste any garlic, I also couldn't work out what was sprinkled over them. The prawn starter was described as mediocre by my husband. The sea bream was nicely cooked but the gnocchi was swimming in what tasted like a bottled chilli sauce with chilli sprinkled over it, there was some spinach. My husband's comments were that gammon was burnt at the edges, the egg was overcooked but the onion rings although very big were quite nice but couldn't eat them all, the chips were good. The restaurant was empty except the two of a us and a large group celebrating a birthday. One of the dishes arrived to our table with the wrong pasta, and the sauce was extremely salty. however, my partners dish was lovely. the main reason for my complaint is due to how loud the ‘happy birthday’ song was played by staff. i don’t want to sound miserable, but as a couple we went to this restaurant as we know it is typically quiet .. the volume that the music was played at was ridiculous. as a neurotypical person, it really ruined my experience and sadly will not be be coming back again. thank you to the young male waiter who offered us discount due to the salty food and was extremely polite. he is a credit to your business.

The hotel is exceptionally clean, they have a excellent housekeeping team. Breakfast is good but priced high for the area. On some Saturdays there is a market in the town square a 2 minute walk from the hotel where you can get a bacon butty and a nice cup of tea. Or there is a weatherspoons across the road for a breakfast also. The hotel car park is just a gravel patch, next to a walk way. I would love to see it illuminated and maybe with a barrier or a chain for hotel guest security. Our second visit in 6 months, and we never revisit hotels normally. I was firstly told when I ordered two mocktails that I'd have to wait for these to be made. We made the gent behind the bar aware we are part of the function and would like to take the drinks upstairs to which we were responded to quite abruptly with "drinks can't be taken out the venue". As understanding as I would have been towards this, it was only the night prior I was there and witnessed the same gentleman allow other members of a function (of the same purpose as ours) to leave the restaurant with alcoholic drinks to join their function. My partner then had to remind him of this, knowing he had also served us the night before and knew we were aware of what had gone on, yet my partner had to continuously argue the point when we were clearly being treated differently and being repeatedly told we couldn't take the drinks away. After getting to the bottom of this and being told we could walk through the back of the venue, we then waited for the mocktails to be made. When told I had to wait, I did not realise that the wait was so everyone else at the bar could have their orders taken and then made before I was allowed my drinks. At 6 months pregnant and very much needing a drink, I very quickly became frustrated at watching everyone else be served before me (a customer who had already waited to be served and paid for service + drinks). The customer service regarding this was awful. The wait was so long that we missed the beginning of our function and other members of the party ordering had finished half their pints. My partner raised this with a young waitress who said she cannot serve drinks and so just watched to the side as two men served everyone else. Again, I understand these barriers however on a Friday night, with a function also upstairs, you'd hope that all members of staff can chip in, or at least have more staff on to ensure good service. When arriving back to our function we received a cold welcome by a server upstairs, who told us she was going to get the general manager regarding us taking our drinks upstairs- which had already been agreed on by staff downstairs. We did not feel welcomed by anyone working during that evening, no initiative was taken by anyone to resolve any problems, nor apologies given for the clearly bias and rude service. Such a shame to have experienced this, having eaten out at Ellenders many times previously.

Carpark OK. A medium size. Nice welcome when you walk in. It was busy dispite being a late lunch. The place was clean so was the tables. Table service. Drinks orders done and served then ordered the food. When the food came it looked good on the plates. Hickory burger,gammon egg and pineapple and last was the lasagne. All came with chips and salad. The chips were nice and sald was fresh with a nice salad dressing. I was told that the lasagne and gammon were very nice and the burger I had was very nice. One of the best I've had . It did not disappoint. The instant coffee was better tasting than most places (Costa), and the best part was, it was free with our two "station" breakfasts. At £10 each it was good value for money, 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, beans, tinned tomatoes and a hash brown. The bacon was cooked perfectly with crispy fat, the speedy service and the food was delicious and filling 10/10. The two ladies serving us were lovely and super friendly too. It is a rural community truck & tractor stop with a huge car park, it is not fancy it is down to earth good value and tasty food, and very clean too. If you want posh and fancy go elsewhere, if you want a good old fashioned no frills British cafe this is your place. Would definitely recommend and will definitely revisit 100%.

Easy to find with parking outside. Food was cooked to order. The large chips is the biggest large chips I’ve ever seen, could easily feed four people, so that is a heads up if you’re used to smaller portions of large chips like we are!!
