The food was excellent. The mushroom on rye cracker snack to start with was delicious. Problem with an amuse bouche is that it’s designed to be a single mouth full. We were very sad when it was gone and would have happily paid extra to get another one each. So yum!! The bread and butter is light fluffy carb heaven. The kale started wasn’t either of our favourites, but was still interesting and nicely cooked. We shared both mains, and ate probably the technically best cooked chicken either of us has ever eaten and a carrot purée we’ll both think about for a long time, but for me the vegetarian main (Ibis celeriac) won out. So very tasty! The desert was very nice, and managed to feel indulgent, yet light, which is what you need at the end of a hearty lunch. I’ve seen many reviews complaining about small portions, but I couldn’t disagree more. Neither of us had eaten any breakfast as we didn’t want to be too full to enjoy this lunch, and we left the restaurant very well fed, without feeling uncomfortably stuffed, which allowed us to actually enjoy our experience, and feel good about the money we had just spent on this delicious food, rather than regretting all of our life choices, because we’d eaten way too much. We tried all 3 mocktails available, and while we definitely had a favourite (the rosemary one, hands down!) they were all really fun and interesting, and I very much appreciated that they cost £8/£9/£10, as often you go somewhere where your cocktails cost £18-£20 and your mocktails £15, which always seems insulting. They also offered alcohol free G&Ts for £6.50, another thing I very much appreciated. We were a little bemused by the ever changing servers (being greeted, brought to our tables, offered water, brought and explained the menus, and having our order taken was done by 5 different members of staff) and glad when after the initial flurry we seemed to settle into mostly having one main server, and he was absolutely lovely! They all were, but it’s a LOT of social interaction trying to keep track off and make small talk with all 8 staff members on the restaurant floor at any given time, because any of them could approach you at any moment!, rather than just having to pay attention to 1 person. All around I would say the service was great, but for me personally a little too much. I am perfectly happy filling up my own water glass and for my napkin to remain unfolded when I go to the toilet. However I do appreciate that this is part of the style, so I can overlook it. All around, we had a lovely afternoon. While £50 a person for food isn’t something we can spend on lunch every week, we felt the price was pitched perfectly and that we received exactly the level of food that we were expecting for that money, and will very happily come back in the future!!

The hotel restaurant/bar is decorated beautifully and had lots of character. The beer garden at the back of the hotel, is very charming, with a river running at the bottom of it. We booked in for dinner on our first night. The service was great and the food was really tasty;however, quite expensive for the quality and quantity. The following morning we asked to sit with our friends who were also staying. The waitress made it clear that she was not happy with this and we had to ask to have clean glasses and our food took an awfully long time to arrive. The waitress was quite rude to be fair. The second morning was much better and a much better experience. We booked a small double room. I was expecting small; however, not tiny. We were unable to use the plugs by the bed, due to no space next to the cabinets. The window and sills, skirting boards etc need a good paint. There was an odd smell in the bathroom. The room was kept clean whilst we were there and the tea, coffee etc were a nice addition.

Our experience however was a little sour due to the comments received as we arrived. Me and my fiancee were using the cavendish as a bed for the night so we could visit L' enclume for her birthday. Upon arrival we were asked if we were dining with them and we excitedly said we were going to the other restaurant. This invoked a remark about our personal appearance which genuinely upset my faincee. She was already worried ( as we are basically working class people) about what outfit she had brought and how we wouldn't be good enough to visit a posh restaurant. These thoughts were already simmering under the service anyway, so to have someone point it out was just completely unnecessary in our eyes. Thankfully (after reassuring her for over an hour) the night went off without a hitch. It's a shame because the room was reasonably priced and the breakfast was delicious. We don't think, however, we will be returning on our future visits. I encourage people to give this place a chance though as the pub atmosphere is lovely. It was just ruined for us by the remarks of one member of staff. We know we don't have much money. This was a one time occasion, we don't need it reinforced to us.

Dog friendly in some rooms (call to book) and they were happy to let us leave our little dog in the room while we lunched at L'Enclume which was much appreciated. Friendly, helpful and jovial staff however on Thursday they were being worked very hard (with consequential small slip in service) and could really have done with another set of hands front of house. The room was small and the furnishings/decor was a touch tired and didn't quite match the vibe of the rest of the establishment. Atmosphere was great. Burger was to die for (Brie and maple bacon what a combo). Food isn’t cheap but you pay for what you get and that is quality cooked food that tastes amazing. Great selection of wines, beers, and cocktails. Negroni was made well. Lots of people in so the pub had great ambience but wasn’t so busy you couldn’t hear yourself think. The room is ok as in it’s clean but I must admit I have stayed in better presented rooms for the price. The bed was nice with plenty of pillows ( I don’t like many ). Slightly disappointed that cables are clipped on top of skirting boards but I am an electrician so would criticise this finish. The food was absolutely fantastic, for a starter I ate soup of the day and it was possibly the nicest soup I have ever tasted, for a main I had blade of beef which was served on a bed of mash with vegetables and a gravy or jus. I noted pork in the meal which I didn’t notice on the menu and I have to be careful with pork as it makes me ill but I moved the small pieces aside and continued with the meal. Again a truly delicious meal and I would highly recommend anyone in the area to eat here. All in all rooms 3 stars out of 5 but food easily 5 out of 5 stars.

We visited on a warm day, so were lucky to be able to sit out on the upper balcony and watch the tide surging in. We found the food to be very average, at best. We expected decent pub grub, but it didn't deliver. We had two Admiral Burgers, Veggie Vessel Burger, small fish and chips and small tomato pasta. All the dishes were disappointing and unappealing for the price. The fish and chips were particularly depressing for a restaurant by the sea. Four lunches and a kids meal with soft drinks cost nearly £100, which is the most expensive lunch we've had in the area and definitely the least enjoyable. Most staff were pleasant, one member seemed like he really didn't want to be there and lacked any real care or attention for diners. This place definitely benefits from its location near to the promenade, but we found the food to be really disappointing for somewhere so well reviewed. Perhaps we hit it on a bad day, but it really didn't hit the mark for us.

We chose it because it is within easy walking distance of both the train station and the church. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We were in the room called 'Porthole'. However it has three outside walls, two of which contain large areas of glass. This means that it was very cold even though the public areas of the hotel were well heated. There was virtually no hot water in the basin hot tap. The temperature of the electric shower fluctuated and the shower head fell off its bracket a couple of times. Breakfast is not served until 9am. This was a problem for one of us as we needed to catch a bus to Cartmel that left the stop outside the hotel at 09:16. However Kayla managed to produce some tea, porridge and toast very quickly. We ate in the bar the first evening, with some other family members. Most people seemed happy with their menu choices but two of us chose cheese and onion pie. This was almost entirely filled with potato: potato wrapped with pastry served with chips and a small dish of mushy peas does not provide the most exciting of meals. When our food did arrive the plates were warmish the food tepid ,the veg was limp over cooked, roast potatoes hard and cold gravy out of a packet , meat greasy and pallid . The two poor waitresses one 18 one 17 i couldn't feel anything but sorry for them,running around saying sorry trying to do the best of a disastrous setup, sorry we only have two chefs working today, having to try and placate very annoyed customers ,whilst the manager was out , aswell as allowing the 17 year to serve drinks ( illegal if iam correct) , would i eat there again no way, the set up was shambolic, the food inadequate, what could and should have been a really nice birthday meal turned into a massive disappointment and not a cheap one , ohhh and cash is not a currency taken.

They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen' and 'microwave' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though...

We happily opted for 3 gammon roast dinners and a homemade steak pie with mash (you get the choice of which potato you'd like) The food arrived piping hot with plenty of everything and it was so so tasty you could really tell everything was lovingly made from scratch for the roast the potatoes came both roasted and mashed with cauliflower, broccoli and carrot and swede mash. A generous helping of gammon and a large Yorkshire pudding with gravy that was clearly made with the juices as it was so flavourful. The steak pie was brilliant too homemade with large chunks of steak and a choice of potato and whether you'd like the same veg as that with the roast or with peas. This also came with gravy. For dessert there was a choice of either chocolate fudge cake, caramel apple pie or sticky toffee pudding and you had the choice of either cream, ice cream or custard. 2 of us got it with custard and 2 of us got it with ice cream and it wasn't overbearingly sweet it was perfect with a delicious caramel top! We all thoroughly enjoyed all the food and the drinks and service and will be back again one day if we find ourselves holidaying here again

We drove 65 miles from Workington in the north of Cumbria as it's our nearest Filipino eatery. However, the tables are spotless with their damask tablecloths changed between customers. Our whole stay was fabulous. The room was spacious and comfortable with lovely views over the coast. Spotlessly clean. We love a curry & this place is the only curry place in town. We turned up just after 18:00 on a Thursday & know one else was in. It’s a small restaurant probably has around 10 tables. It was a particularly cold evening & the restaurant even with the heating on was a little cold, however I’m not sure they’d be open that long. For starters The wife had Onion Barge, she said they were light & crispy. Also, massive in size. I had: The mix tandoori stater, which consisted of chicken tikka & lamb coffta. It was nice & fresh, I wasn’t tasting anything special just a mild meaty taste. The chicken tikka was my favourite out of the two, tender. For mains: The wife had:Vegetable Corma, the wife said she likes her Corma particularly sweet & this wasn’t all that sweet. However it was very nice creamy with a good potion of vegetables in there. For me: I had the Chicken Viderloo, this has to be red hot in spice no messing about & the dish delivers. I never expect anything less from a vinderloo & the spice was excellent. The only draw back was the level of flavour, I personally love a sweet dry rich spice. We got the spice & dry, not so much sweet again unfortunately. Still a solid curry👍 We also ordered: poppadoms, rice, chips, & we had a chutney tray. Just glasses of water. Nothing out of the ordinary really with any of it, we noticed the nann bread was a little flat & thin we like our big and puffed up🤷‍♀️ As we were finishing our mains the restaurant was quickly filling up. It’s right on the high street it’s a bit of a nightmare to park & its unlicensed so you bring you own booze. Over all a nice little restaurant, I’d go back if I was visiting. Thanks AKHI! They also offer concierge transport to Cartmel which was great for us when we had a meal booked at L,Enclume. Thw hotel has lovely outside seating with very nice views. It also had a decent size bathroom with Molten Brown shampoo, mouthwash etc etc. Would definitely recommend staying here rather than in Cartmel if you're looking for some quiet time in the fresh air.

The location is beautiful. The lodge was serene- two rooms, sauna, jacuzzi and a fully functional kitchen. You can buy food from the nearest grocery store which is in grange (Tesco, co-op) and cook yourself. Lodges are well heated. It was super clean. The staff was friendly. Nathan made sure we are settled in comfortably and well taken care of. They also have a restaurant that serves breakfast and dinner but we didn’t dine in because of lack of time. They do have WiFi but you have to pay 5£ per day for it. Everything was amazing in this lodge. Thank you for a perfect weekend getaway. Really enjoyed the stay in the lodge.

Beautiful patio area perfect for a chilled drink or food while the sunsets. Rooms were well above standard and we had a nice little gift left in our room to celebrate our occasion. Bed was super comfy and the room was spacious beyond need. Room comes with the usual amenities. I would recommend if you stayed here to eat as well, food was exceptionally good, homemade and freshly cooked. Gave homely feels and the owners Allan and Sue made it feel exactly that. Super dog friendly and the grounds are safe for pets to roam free. Breakfast is immense and again cooked fresh to order, and comes free if you book direct through the website. Dylan and his partner Lily are a credit to the small family run business and made the time to sit and interact with the guests which just goes to show what a great family run business this really is. Dylan gave us some great ideas for a hike around the local lands as well as around lake windermere which isn't far away at all. Everything about the The Inn Cartmel is perfect and i couldn't fault anything about our 2 night stay, only wish we had stayed longer. Perfect for families, couples or single guests, everyone is made welcome. It's so good we have already planned our stay here again. Thank you for having us.
