Prominent gothic-style Catholic church founded in 1909, with 2 towers & a statue of the Virgin Mary.
Slide 1 of 8
Very nice and beautiful Roman style cathedral. You have to use the side entrance to get in. Parking possible right next to the cathedral, pay 20B per car. The parking lot was quite busy and always full or almost full. Surroundings: Nice little restaurants and cafes in the area. Unfortunately there were no flyers or pan flips explaining the history or the place and it’s renovations available in English
On the road from Koh Chang to Pattaya, I finally stopped in Chanthaburi — a town I’d passed many times before. In a Buddhist country, this Catholic cathedral feels both unexpected and reverent. Not as grand as Notre-Dame in Paris, nor as ornate as Sagrada Família in Barcelona, but quietly beautiful in its own way. There’s a quiet strength here — modest, solid, and sincere. A place to pause in the middle of a journey, to reflect on myself and the time I've been traveling through.
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Chanthaburi is a very nice and peaceful place. It's next to a river, which makes it very tranquil. Outside, there's a big statue of the Virgin Mary where people pray and leave offerings. There are also other Catholic buildings and statues nearby. It's a perfect place to find peace and quiet.
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Chanthaburi is a magnificent neo-Gothic church and one of the most significant in Thailand. Consecrated in 1909, it is renowned for its twin spires and stunning interior which features a statue of the Virgin Mary adorned with hundreds of thousands of local sapphires. A testament to the area's Vietnamese Catholic community and French missionary history, it remains a vital spiritual center and an essential stop for any visitor to Chanthaburi, perfectly paired with a visit to the nearby Chanthaboon Waterfront Community.
We visited The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Chanthaburi. It is a significant religious and historical landmark. It is the largest Catholic church in Thailand and serves as the seat of the Diocese of Chanthaburi. The cathedral was originally built in the late 19th century, with construction starting in 1909 and completed in 1911. It was established to serve the growing Catholic community in the region, which was largely influenced by French missionaries who arrived in the area during the 17th century. The cathedral features a neo-Gothic architectural style, characterized by its pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and flying buttresses. Its two prominent spires reach a height of about 24 meters, making it a recognizable landmark in Chanthaburi. The cathedral not only serves as a place of worship but also symbolizes the historical presence of Catholicism in Thailand. It reflects the cultural exchanges between Thai society and European colonizers, especially during the colonial era when French missionaries played a crucial role in evangelizing the region. During World War II, the cathedral was a refuge for many people fleeing from conflict, showcasing its role as a community center beyond just religious functions. Over the years, the cathedral has undergone various restorations and renovations to preserve its structure and accommodate the growing congregation. It remains an active parish church and a focal point for Catholic activities in Thailand. Today, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is not only a place o worship but also an important cultural and historical site that attracts both pilgrims and tourists. Its beautiful architecture and rich history make it a significant landmark in Chanthaburi.
We went there late in the afternoon and it was closed. We walked around the perimeter and the weather was great. The church was beautiful.
Beautiful Cathedal near Chantaburi waterfront market. Good view and huge paid car parking lots.
I was surprised to find a church in Thailand province and when I entered inside for a prayer a young lady asked me rudely that I can't stay. I found this strange in the house of God. The architecture itself isn't impressive and the interior is dull

Mountainous rainforested national park across 52 sq. miles with streams, waterfalls & rich wildlife.
Slide 1 of 8
Beautiful waterfall with flourishing forest alongside the pathway. This natural park center around Phlio waterfall (น้ำตกพลิ้ว) produces streams into a river in Chantaburi (จันทบุรี) along tropical rainforest throughout the pathway to the main waterfall as the final destination. The pathway is paved with concrete for better walkability except a few areas like streams shoreline and the waterfall itself that's mainly consists of large stone piece from the mountain that you need to be careful to be able to navigate properly. Would recommend for those who enjoy walking in a natural park or simply want to enjoy playing in waterfall water, which are decently cold and very clean with some fish to suck of your toes for food too. (The fish is Neolissochilus stracheyi to be specific)
It’s good and well organised, I just expected more trails. However the Thais don’t seem interested in them! Beware that there is no public transportation at this site. I started the 3.5 hour walk back to Chanthabury and eventually a lovely Thai couple picked me up, thank God. It was 34C and no clouds.
One of the nearby waterfall attractions, popular with the locals. Good thing it wasn't a long and rough hike, just 300 metres. Some of those fishes are bigass huge actually, and the big ones leave us alone. Water was really cooling and quite enjoyable for a hot day.
Very nice waterfall, been there un the past and just came back for another visit. There are also a small natural pool where several teens were swimming in. There are also rocks where you can sit and put your feet in the water and small fishes will nibble on your feet, some people said it feels ticklish. The park doesn't allow you to bring food or drinks in. There's a picnic table you can consume all your food and drinks or put them on a shelf and reclaim on your way out. Overall the park is really clean (no garbage) and the staffs are nice. I've been to this park in the past and will most likely return in 5 or so years to watch the waterfall again.
A hidden gem in Chanthaburi! Nam Tok Phlio National Park is such a beautiful and refreshing escape into nature. The waterfall is stunning, especially after the rain — strong, clear, and surrounded by lush greenery. The trail to the waterfall is easy and well-maintained, perfect for a relaxing hike. I loved seeing the fish swimming around the base of the falls, and the air felt so fresh and cool. There’s also a small pagoda and historical monument that add a cultural touch to the visit. Great for nature lovers, families, or anyone looking to unwind.
If you're daring & don't mind a few giant spiders, take the nature trail. If you rather not, the road will take you strait to the waterfall. A spectacular view!
Ideal for exploring the tropical rainforest. I came to visit at the beginning of the rainy season. The atmosphere was like this.
A nice national Park to visit. We did the nature walk which had lots of information on it and was easy to follow. The fish in the water nibbling at our feet was a surprise.

Fact is there’s not a whole lot to do in the city of Chanthaburi, Thailand. So finding this strip along the river is a welcome relief. There’s a history to this area and the short story is Thais, Chinese and Vietnamese coexisted in this part of town which is why you’ll see influences of each culture through food, architecture as well as religion. There are lots of cafés, restaurants and cozy little hotels, some overlooking the river. I can imagine this area is busiest on weekends and finding parking space can be a real pain. Most of the restaurant/bars open in the evening but the smaller restaurants are open through the day. It’s a small narrow lane so be careful of motorbikes and cars. You can walk the entire waterfront lane, it’s only about 300 or 400 meters.
A nicely preserved historic area. It's great to see some of the old buildings being well cared for. If you like architecture this is an interesting area to explore. There's also many cafes, food stalls and street art here. You can walk across the bridge to visit the Roman Catholic church too. The only problem is that it's very narrow and the road is still open to cars- it needs to be pedestrianised.
Community dates from 300 years ago when Chinese and Vietnamese merchants arrived. Buildings still bear their cultural imprint. Lots of eateries by the river and a good place to base yourself for exploring Chanthaburi. They should pedestrianize the main road though - pesky motorbikes!
I went in rainy season and many Shop are closed from Covid-19. This area was much quiet and nice place.
I was expecting to see unique architecture reflecting the different cultures here. But there were no such buildings. It just looks like any other Thai street with only a couple of traditional houses left. This street is very commercialised too, lined on both sides with all kinds of shops, cafes and restaurants. This place is catered to domestic tourism. Do NOT expect to see any English menus anywhere. It's pleasant to stroll in it and eat some street food here. But it's not worth a special trip just to see this place.
Its OK to visit if you're in the town but I wouldn't make a special journey. Quite a lot of shops are closed up. A few selling local-style snacks and food. A few coffee shops etc. Plenty of parking at the cathedral then just walk over the bridge..
A pity walking there from the hotel was so unpleasant, not because of the distance but on account of having to come across main thoroughfares (no pedestrian crossing of course, vehicles accelerating when they notice you want to cross). All shops are closed on Sundays so plan your trip accordingly!
Hugging the banks of Mae Nam Chanthaburi is this charismatic part of town, filled with restored houses and elderly residents sitting around reminiscing about their Chanthaburi tales with each other.

King Taksin the Great, who freed and saved Siam (former Thailand) from the ancient Burmese invasion. He had stopped here in Rayong during his rally to liberate the Kingdom of Ayutthaya from the ancient Burmese army. The legend has it that King Taksin the Great’s elephant was stabled at a large Parkia tree, which is in front of the shrine. This is a well-regarded place locals and Chinese visitors come to pray for lucks, especially during Chinese New Year and on December 28th, which is King Taksin Day.
The Shrine dedicated to the late King Taksin. This shrine offer the opportunity for Thais and foreigners to worship the late King and pray respects. This Shrine is very well maintain and beside the late King Taksin, there's also many other Buddhist duties for believer to come and worship. In the Shrine, there's a sword of the late King, a sword age more than 200 years old and it's open for public to take picture with the sword
Travel to Chanthaburi and pay respect to King Taksin the Great with reverence.
A shrine visited regularly by locals
One of a must historical places to visit in Chantaburi. Very neat, clean, and well maintained
A beautiful and historical shrine landmark. If you have a chance to visit Chantaburi, I'd recommend you to come to this place.

Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks
Slide 1 of 8
We visited the magnificent Wat Phai Lom  located in Chanthaburi. Big beautiful maintained area with many temples and quiet places to meditate It is a significant Buddhist temple with a rich history. It is known for its serene atmosphere and beautiful architecture. The temple is believed to have been established in the late Ayutthaya period, around the 18th century, and has since undergone various renovations and expansions. The temple is particularly notable for its unique blend of Thai and Chinese architectural elements, reflecting the cultural diversity of the region. It serves as a center for both spiritual practice and community activities. The temple complex features a variety of structures, including ordination halls, Buddha statues, and intricate murals that depict Buddhist teachings. Wat Phai Lom is also associated with local legends and traditions, making it a focal point for festivals and religious ceremonies. Its historical significance is enhanced by its role in preserving the cultural heritage of Chanthaburi and its importance to the local Buddhist community.
I findThailand temples pleasant places to be. Everyone is friendly, busy, or not. I love Thailand.
Peaceful location on the east side of Chanthaburi city, we were there to meet a monk and had time to walk the grounds and view temple buildings and the reclining Buddha. Large Buddha statue under construction near the entrance will be impressive when complete.
Nice visit stop when you are in Chanthaburi, large complex ground with three main buildings, however when we visit two of them were closed, only one open for visit which houses a large reclining Buddha. Parking is ample but not every door is open so if you come across a gate which is opened then go in and park. Good place for the locals to come and pray for good health and good luck.
Composed to three main temple buildings and several smaller related to monastery. One of the buildings house a large reclining Buddha.
Nice, beautiful old temple. Many Thais came to this temple to pray for good health, good fortune and good blessings. Below the temple, they provides Authentic and Traditional Thai Massage, charges between 500 BAHT to 800 BAHT for a 2 hours massage session per person, massage are done by male at the open area of the ground floor. The best massage I had ever had in Thailand. Opposite of this temple, there's a shop selling fish skin noodles soup. Price are definitely reasonable, fish skin is the best, plenty of others varieties of seafood available to choose.
Reclining Buddha, nice area with little Art gallery beside to visit. Open, no entrance fees. Try the food at little Shops beside the temple, was great.
Usual Thai temple experience.

Wow what an experience!!! The way up is not some prepared trail, it really is a climb! Such a satisfaction to reach top, where the most spectacular waterfall is. We just sat and rested for about 15 minutes meditating before climbing back down. Of course it rained along the way and we were drenched even with ponchos. As you can see from the photo, what was a dry trail on the way up became a waterfall on the way down, which we had to traverse, no other route. To climb the top you must be physically fit, but, most folks would just go part way and bathe in one of the many beautiful pools.
This is the best experience happen to me here in rayong! Hike for about I dont know there was like 5-7 falls the last one is the best one! And dont forget to buy the national park passport!
Very adventures nature water fall. Treking in the mountain forest with some energy gained by seeing the exiting of nature world. Plastic, alcohol, smoke free area. But we have to be carefull ourself to protect from slipery dangerous way. If we got injury or wounds its difficult to return back or take time to the first aid medical facility.
A unique experience of swimming in the pool with wild fish. Entrance for foreigners is 200 baht, your Thai driver’s license won’t work. Two upper levels were closed due to the presence of wasps.
Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park Named after two mountains and designated as a national park in 1975, Khao Chamao - Khao Wong National Park is a very small national park covering an area of 84 km². The forest covering the national park is part of a much bigger forest complex including many other protected sites in Thailand and Cambodia. The park is situated mainly in Rayong Province and a smaller part in Chanthaburi Province. It is a popular destination for its waterfalls, viewpoint, caves, limestone mountains, cliffs and hiking possibilities. The mountains of the national park reach an elevation of about 1,000 meters asl, covered with broad-leaved evergreen forests on higher altitudes. The montane forests are the source of water that flows down to Prasae River, providing surrounding agricultural areas with water. The central south-east of Thailand where the park is located has rainy season from May till October, cold season November to February and hot season March to April. Wildlife Despite the small size, thanks to the extension of the mountain range and adjacent protected sites, the park has some exciting animals to offer. Animal sighting is very rare on low elevations near the villages and along the trails to the waterfalls due to high amount of daily visitors, but deeper inside the park and specially on higher altitudes animals like elephants, gaurs, Indochinese serows, bears, leopards, leopard cats, pileated gibbons, banded langurs and boars can be found. There are about 40 confirmed bird species in the park of which some are; blue pittas, brown wood owls, Van Hasselt's sunbirds, Siamese firebacks, great hornbills, common hill mynas, lineated barbets, Indochinese rollers and thick-billed green pigeons. Visiting The park is very popular among local tourists and can be extremely busy on holidays and week-ends during the high season. Even on normal days during the rainy seasons a lot of tourists may show up. The visitor center area is located around 70 km from both Rayong and Chanthaburi towns and nearly 125 km from Pattaya, only 1 km off from highway 3377. There is a spacious campsite, accommodations, various facilities, 2 restaurants and a few kiosks mainly selling beverages in the campsite from 8 am until 4:30 pm. There are few other restaurants outside the park towards the main road, these can be open up until 6 pm to 8 pm depending on day of the week or amount of seasonal tourist activity, busier times are normally week-ends. Getting there & stay There are no public services to the national park. It is possible to arrange a private transportation to the park from most hotels, hotel reception teams will gladly call and arrange a driver for you for various prices. There is no need for a guided tour as the trails are relatively short and well signposted. Drive from Pattaya, Rayong and Chanthaburi Take Sukhumvit road (east from Pattaya or Rayong and west from Chanthaburi) until Thung Khwai Kin and turn north to Khao Chamao (highway 3377) where you will see a signpost to Khao Chamao. Drive about 16 km until you see a signpost to Khao Chamao Waterfall. Turn right and drive another 1 km until you reach the checkpoint. Entrance fees & opening times As of June 2022, the entrance fees are 200 Baht for adults and 100 Baht for children 3-14 years old. Thai citizens pay 40 Baht for adults and 20 Baht for children. When staying inside the park in park accommodations or at the campsites, the same ticket can be used for 3 days/2 nights, otherwise, for multiple visits from outside, new tickets must be obtained on every entrance. Khao Chamao - Khao Wong National Park is open 8:30 am to 4 pm every day. Stay & eat There are 17 accommodation options in the visitor center area, from 600 Baht with fans only, 800 Baht with a/c for two people and 1,200 Baht with a/c for 4 people. There are only two large ones at Klong Pla Kang Waterfall area for 3,000 Baht per night, for 23 people. A significant discount will apply when booked for Mon-Thu.
Very clean and well maintained park, clearly renovated recently. Waterfalls are midsized, and trekking requires special attire, such as mountain shoes - it's not easy to walk up stepping on wet stones rather than on a track.
This place was suitable for relaxation. The water was beautiful. The water was so clear you can see the fish. It's a great place to set up a tent. There were houses available.
Nice National Park. Hike up to the mountains in a shady forest. You can see 7 levels of waterfall and enjoy swimming in refreshing water. Overall, it was a great experience and I will be happy to visit this place again.

The museum is about all maritime history of trading in Siam. With all vessels that have been used in Siam. It is located up at the mountain in the old camp fort called Neon Wong fortress which was built in 1834. King Rama III of Siam in Siamese - Vietnamese war campaign. You can explore the old watch tower and the old brick wall which there were still canons on the walls. One of interesting is the display that educated about underwater archeology of how/ history of old goods that were found under the sea bed in gulf of Thailand. The highlight is big model of junk boat 1:1 which people can climb up and learn how it operate in the past. And the last is the history of King Taksin campaign after the defeated of Ayutthaya. How he became the king of Siam in those time. Unfortunately some of the materials shows very old and not proper maintenance. Hopefully any authority will manage budget for support this for tourists and students have better place for learn.
Very interesting visit today 😊 🙏👈🇹🇭
Great content , my kids enjoy the large ship and learn about many things. a bit old, smell the dust. not well maintainance. dont expect much. but it worth the visit. and a good place to spend time during the rainy day.
Very good museum. I spent 2 hrs inside read everything. My kids loved it so much especially the big wooden boat. The entrance fee only 20 THB for adult. Kids and elderly person are free.
Be prepared that there is no air conditioning in the museum. If is hot 🥵 But the museum is well very okay for to do. Well done 👌👍😊
The museum entrance fee was too high for foreigners so we walked the rampart for 1500 yards with cannon most of the way. Greatest number of cannon collection I have ever seen. The wall around the old city is mostly intact. Awesome history here and along the coast 30 minutes away. I just don't understand why they discriminate against visitors to their country and overcharge their guests who want to learn about their country. It is opposite of how the people and culture should be.
Very good museum. My kid love it very much. Highly recommended to stop if you come around. There are history about ship in thailand.
Unfortunately, the main exhibit, a large old wooden Thai boat, was being renovated when we visited. Will be back.

Part of the royal program by the late King Rama 9. This place is fantastic to bringing kids to learn about marine life and importance of sustainable fishing. You can purchase bucket of fresh fish to feed bull shark, leopard shark, giant grouper and much more. We came during down tide and during monsoon season, so the water was merky and a bit difficult to see the wildlife
I was so excited to have an experience feeding a big shark! There are many species of sharks here, but I only see just one shark. Moreover, there are feeding fish activity along with a beautiful view around us. Lastly, the breeze makes me feel so fresh! 🦈💕
Fair amount of fish, sharks and turtles to see. Buckets of fish available to feed. More fish and sharks in the restaurant cove right next to it. Good activity in the local area, especially for kids. A little underwhelming for adults.
No turtles, just one shark which you cannot see. Other ponds half empty, half is with few fish but not worth visiting for that. Entry is free, parking is not free.
Some places are way too small for the big fish. But it's an old place. Still a good experience. Huge fish....
Recommend to visit during non-stormy season (like Oct to Mar) as we were told. The water will be clearer since the water now is very muddy from all the sediments. There are small sharks and other local fishes in each separated “tank”. Not much info if you come privately since the staffs are only cater to your groups. Need to pay for parking and feeds. Bring your own bread if you want.
Some big sharks live here! 🦈 Very cool to see, no entrance fee😊
Buy some fish and feed the sharks! Car parking is 20 Baht

Lovely park popular with runners.has a lot of outside fitness equipment and airobic classes.or just go for a gentle stroll about 4km in diameter
Best place for evening jogging
Clean and big park. Full of big tree. New trail for walking jogging. Some flowers , less restroom. Free parking .
Nice park with a worshipped statue of the Great Taksin. Surrounded by water, access is granted by three bridges. We were lucky enough to attend a local festival and an its important gig. Was very enjoyable.
It is very good place for doing exercise in the morning and evening. It has nice grass, different flowers, nice pavement and big lake. "Good health is your first wealth." Highly recommended place for doing walking or jogging exercises.
It's Chanthaburians' main public park. When I was young, I jogged here with my mum a couple of days a week, and I could remember this atmosphere. And now I jog here again after 10 years (COVID has asked me to come home for 3 months already). People here are nice and friendly as always – happy to know many people love exercises. I notice that two things have changed: water here is much smelly, and there is a brand-new running track (2-km). It's better/milder for our joints and safer to run.

Noen Wong Fort - Built by King Rama III at Khai Noen Wong to protect the town from Vietnamese invasions in 1834, only a small 50m-long section remains, with a few canons shaded by trees.

Very old canons, impressive to see, not well taken care of unfortunately, some spots are falling apart

The fortress's construction was apparently prompted by the Chao Anouvong Rebellion that broke out in Vientiane, Laos. It was built as a precaution against further retaliation to Vietnam, where the rebels fled after being defeated by the heroine Thao Suranaree in Korat. The impressive laterite brick fortress, built around a vast oval moat spanning 270 rai, is dotted with watchtowers and artillery batteries. The fortress also contains the ancient temple of Wat Yothanimit, which was built at the same time as the fortress, as well as the National Merchant Marine Museum, making it one of Chanthaburi's most important historical attractions. Delicious food and good quality
Nice quiet little temple located up the hill at the entrance to the old Chanthaboon market community. Visitors might be greeted with a few dogs barking madly at them. I happened to have dog’s treat with me at the time, which made me their best friend instantly. In fact, these dogs are more scared of people than you think….
It was so crowded but I see the people's devotion to their belief. Loy Krathong Festival.
Lovely temple overlooking the river
Nice temple but was stoped by a dog running towards me, baring his teeth at the gate with a few more following behind. Had not someone called out wouldn't know what would happened next. Hopefully this could be prevented and not wait till things happen.
A nice and quiet place in this busy city. Really beautiful.

Very nice place to visit, especially for those interested in gems and jewelry. The museum is definitely worth it — it’s free and offers a lot of interesting information. The nearby shops also have a great selection of jewelry, and for those interested in verifying the authenticity of their gems, there’s an institute here that offers certification services.
We visited The gems and jewelry center in Chanthaburi. It is renowned for its vibrant trade in precious stones, particularly gems like sapphires and rubies which goes back many centuries. The gem trade in Chanthaburi began in the late 19th century when local miners discovered valuable gemstones in the surrounding areas. The town's strategic location along trade routes facilitated the growth of gem trading. By the mid-20th century, Chanthaburi had established itself as a major center for gem trading in Thailand. The influx of foreign traders and gem dealers, particularly from Europe and the Middle East, contributed to its growing reputation. Chanthaburi has a rich history of cultural exchange due to its diverse population, including Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese communities. This diversity has influenced local gem-cutting techniques and trading practices. In the 1980s and 1990s, the Thai government promoted the gems and jewelry sector as a key economic driver. This led to the establishment of the Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Center, which provides facilities for trading, exhibitions, and education. Today, Chanthaburi is one of the world’s leading centers for colored gemstones. It hosts numerous gem fairs and exhibitions, attracting international buyers and sellers. The city is known for its skilled artisans and craftsmen, who produce high-quality jewelry.
For anyone curious about the fascinating world of gemstones, the Chanthaburi - Gems and Jewellery Centre is an all-inclusive, one-stop destination which takes visitors on an engaging journey into the world of Gemstones, from the formation, types, origins, and historical significance of gemstones. The museum is exceptionally well-organized, offering in-depth insights into how gemstones are formed, where different varieties can be found, and how they have been treasured and used throughout history. One of the best parts of this experience is the transition from education to shopping. At the end of the museum, visitors can browse through numerous shops featuring stunning, high-quality gems and jewellery at beyond reasonable prices. The shopkeepers are incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable—helpful without being overly pushy, making the shopping experience enjoyable and stress-free. Whether you're a serious collector, a first-time buyer, or simply someone fascinated by the beauty and history of gemstones, this centre offers everything you need. The jewellery itself is breathtaking, reflecting both craftsmanship and authenticity. A must-visit in Chanthaburi!
A great learning center about all things gem stone ranging from where to find them, purification process, crafting process and historical use of gem. You can also purchase quality design jewelry at affordable price and with paperwork. Depending upon your visit date and time, if you were there not during the time where there is tour group, this place is not too busy
Excellent museum in Chantaburi. Lots of Excellent displays and leaning intuitively. There's all kinds of information related to gem across the history and across the region which is fantastic for leaning. There's also zone that sell jewelry from local jewelry designer in Chantaburi.
it's great gems and jewelry center for learning and polishing at here you will find everything about gemstone 👍🔬
Not that busy and well presented and displayed. Only one comment was the confusing road access; the front access couldn't continue to parking lot, so we got to get out to the main road again and re enter directly to the car park via different gate. No clear sign though.
Know what you want to buy, compare prices.
