The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Chanthaburi is a remarkable gothic-style Catholic church established in 1909, featuring two towering spires and a striking statue of the Virgin Mary. It is renowned as one of Thailand's largest Catholic cathedrals and an architectural marvel.
Very nice and beautiful Roman style cathedral. You have to use the side entrance to get in. Parking possible right next to the cathedral, pay 20B per car. The parking lot was quite busy and always full or almost full. Surroundings: Nice little restaurants and cafes in the area. Unfortunately there were no flyers or pan flips explaining the history or the place and it’s renovations available in English

On the road from Koh Chang to Pattaya, I finally stopped in Chanthaburi — a town I’d passed many times before. In a Buddhist country, this Catholic cathedral feels both unexpected and reverent. Not as grand as Notre-Dame in Paris, nor as ornate as Sagrada Família in Barcelona, but quietly beautiful in its own way. There’s a quiet strength here — modest, solid, and sincere. A place to pause in the middle of a journey, to reflect on myself and the time I've been traveling through.
Jaei M — Google review
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Chanthaburi is a very nice and peaceful place. It's next to a river, which makes it very tranquil. Outside, there's a big statue of the Virgin Mary where people pray and leave offerings. There are also other Catholic buildings and statues nearby. It's a perfect place to find peace and quiet.
UEM — Google review
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Chanthaburi is a magnificent neo-Gothic church and one of the most significant in Thailand. Consecrated in 1909, it is renowned for its twin spires and stunning interior which features a statue of the Virgin Mary adorned with hundreds of thousands of local sapphires. A testament to the area's Vietnamese Catholic community and French missionary history, it remains a vital spiritual center and an essential stop for any visitor to Chanthaburi, perfectly paired with a visit to the nearby Chanthaboon Waterfront Community.
Parasu B — Google review
We visited The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Chanthaburi. It is a significant religious and historical landmark. It is the largest Catholic church in Thailand and serves as the seat of the Diocese of Chanthaburi. The cathedral was originally built in the late 19th century, with construction starting in 1909 and completed in 1911. It was established to serve the growing Catholic community in the region, which was largely influenced by French missionaries who arrived in the area during the 17th century. The cathedral features a neo-Gothic architectural style, characterized by its pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and flying buttresses. Its two prominent spires reach a height of about 24 meters, making it a recognizable landmark in Chanthaburi. The cathedral not only serves as a place of worship but also symbolizes the historical presence of Catholicism in Thailand. It reflects the cultural exchanges between Thai society and European colonizers, especially during the colonial era when French missionaries played a crucial role in evangelizing the region. During World War II, the cathedral was a refuge for many people fleeing from conflict, showcasing its role as a community center beyond just religious functions. Over the years, the cathedral has undergone various restorations and renovations to preserve its structure and accommodate the growing congregation. It remains an active parish church and a focal point for Catholic activities in Thailand. Today, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is not only a place o worship but also an important cultural and historical site that attracts both pilgrims and tourists. Its beautiful architecture and rich history make it a significant landmark in Chanthaburi.

We went there late in the afternoon and it was closed. We walked around the perimeter and the weather was great. The church was beautiful.

Beautiful Cathedal near Chantaburi waterfront market. Good view and huge paid car parking lots.

I was surprised to find a church in Thailand province and when I entered inside for a prayer a young lady asked me rudely that I can't stay. I found this strange in the house of God. The architecture itself isn't impressive and the interior is dull

Market
The International Gems Market Chanthaburi is a renowned attraction that draws traders from around the world to Gem Road, also known as Sri Chan Road, on Fridays and weekends. The market showcases precious gemstones from Thailand and beyond, attracting both professionals and curious tourists. While it's not recommended for non-experts to engage in trading, observing the bustling activity of buyers, brokers, runners, and sellers can be quite fascinating.
If you’re gem seller or interested in gemstones, should visit this market. It’s mainly operated on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Khin H — Google review
The gam and jewelry market in Chantaburi province Thailand. This is the market where sellers and buyers from across the world come to trade their gems. It's a real buzzing market, seller will walk around with their Fannie bags, while buyers will have a table with note, noting down what they are looking to buy. It's very interesting how the system of this market works. You can buy gem stone in bulk or individual. You can find unpolished stone, polish, shine stone as well as jewelry. This market is easily the icon on Chantaburi province and even if you are not into jewelry, it is educational to learn about this market.
Katethip V — Google review
WHAT A FUN EXPERIENCE!!! The gem market is initially what drew me to Chanthaburi & it was well worth the adventure. Such a fun group of sellers, all with amazing gems to sell. It was so fun to pick out my favorite pieces to take home. Thank you for an afternoon I will never forget!
McKenna B — Google review
I'v been here 7 times, it's great! If you are a first time buyer go to the surrounding shops with displayed gems to get a ballpark pricing first. Often the price for the gem is displayed at those shops, Vinny Jewelry on 165 Benchamarachuthis Rd is a good place to start. If you sit down at the intersection corner most agents (sellers) will start like 10x the actual value so please bargain. My first day I bought nothing just negotiated to see what prices where. Many blue sapphires in Chanthaburi are actually Kyanite and you got to have some basic knowledge to be able to properly identify stones. Some prices I got, most gems I bought where 1-4ct: decent rough red-pink (uncut) garnet is abut 20-50bath/ct, rough facet grade rainbow moonstone is about 1USD/g rough facet grade amethyst is about 1.5usd/g lots of glass filled rubies so didn't buy any at all. facetted sphene is 120-150bath per ct included cut pink spinel 30 nice pink spinel 250-380 bath per ct Only bought nice gems with some inclusions because then I can easier identify them. Eye clean gems here can be synthetic. got a nice aquamarine for 30 bath per ct. copper tourmaline where about 200 bath per ct. good iolite was 100 bath per ct. heated blue topaz 100 bath per ct, very clean. natural topaz with nice needle inclusions 20bath per ct tanzanite 200 bath per ct lots of inclusions natural clear zircon 120 bath per ct decent turquise apatite 140 abth per ct scapolite/andasine 75 bath per ct, good quality. clean clear 4ct red garnet 125 per ct. tri colour flourite 50bath per ct nice spessartite 200 bath per ct high quality black star sapphire with perfect 6 star 160 bath per ct large pyrite specimen 200 bath. nice fanta garnet 200-250 bath per ct. loupe clean citrine 50bath per ct. opaque gemstones that are supposed to be clear are mostly worthless so don't pay heaps for a opaque ruby or sapphire. Do yourself a favour and buy a uv torch, a "Noble" torch, a magnet, a loupe, a dichroscope and a spectroscope at the equipment shop close by, very good prices. with those tools you can identify most gems. the Refractometer is a bit to bulky to carry around. One of those diamond testers is useful to test density (or thermal conductivity). For buying rough gemstones I found the African shops in the area better all over since they are often the source of many gems in the area, mostly cut stones here. Friday and Saturday is best. Sunday later is ok. Mr leekh at the corner is kind and good to sit with, speaks English well. He never asked for commission to sit at his table, I guess the sellers pay the commission. happy hunting!
Lea B — Google review
Good experience. Feels a little dodgy with people asking you constantly to buy. However, we were lucky to find one that wasn't too pushy. The local area and the waterfront are quite interesting for sightseeing.
Carl C — Google review
It's the biggest gems selling market in Thailand, very interesting place when you go there to see how people trade their gems to mostly Indian buyers and Chinese. It looks like they are trying to sell an illegal things lol. Everybody has their little shoulder pockets and looks so serious and trying to sell you their gems.
Pasan S — Google review
Colorful of gems stone make me feel hungry and thinking to some dessert.... look beautiful and amazing... there are open on weekends only i go there in fridays and what's a lucky they to saw something like this

This is a large indoor gems market for professional gem traders. Not really a tourist destination, as there's nothing here to see for tourists.

The community is situated along the Mae Nam Chanthaburi river and boasts a mix of Thai, Chinese, French, and Vietnamese architectural styles. Amazing community, ancient stories house and village such a great way of life. Long street of Community Walking Street is filled with local foods, snacks, varieties of cafe, souvenir and the ending of great ancient cultures.

Long street ,with some traditional old buildings turned into boutique hotels .It still has some charm, though .Has a small old boat noodles restaurant with is a must visit ,it closes at 4.30pm ,where it has tiny 9bt bowls of different types of noodles .Most places were closed by 5.00pm

Very nice trad community next to river. Plenty of restaurants and coffee. Can see big fish and snake in river. Good views. Romantic.
Gene S — Google review
The Chantaboon Waterfront Community is a peaceful and beautiful area. It's one of the nicest parts of town to walk around. It's a great, easy-to-access spot that connects well to the rest of the city. More investment in the riverside would make it even better.
UEM — Google review
A beautiful mix of history and calm riverside life. The old wooden houses, cafés, and small alleys make it one of the most atmospheric places in Chantaburi. Walking here feels like stepping back in time, yet the community is still alive with music, art, and everyday life. For me, this spot was more than just sightseeing — I actually filmed one of my acoustic cover performances here, and the quiet charm of the alleys gave it a unique soul. If you love photography, music, or simply slow travel, this place has endless inspiration.”
Chris J — Google review
A small alley where time seems to linger. After the rain, the river turns a deep shade of brown, slow and heavy. It wasn’t quite the scene I had imagined — less charm, more stillness. Some parts feel quiet to the point of being forgotten. Honestly, if not for the coffee at C.A.P, I might have left a little disappointed. Still, the scenery holds a kind of faded uniqueness. Not a must-see, but if you're in Chanthaburi, it’s worth a short walk.
Jaei M — Google review
Excellent old street and historical building. Should support local shops. Come by walk from Cathedal, so vintage. A lot of cafes and restaurants to try. Huge parking lots at Cathedal, 30 Bahts for parking.
Aki M — Google review
🏯🏚🏘 It was a nice place to have a visit for 1 or 2 hours, located by the river called "Chantaboon Reiver". There were many beautiful old style houses in the area, some restaurants, coffee shops and the souvenir shops(in case you want to buy something back home). The street wasn't that long and easy to stroll around. 🚗🚕🚎 For the parking, I suggest you to park at paid parking space next to the Cathedral and walk across the river. It's just 20 baht.

Somdet Phra Chao Taksin Maharat Shrine, located in Chanthaburi, Thailand, is a significant historical site commemorating King Taksin's legacy. The shrine features a monument displaying the king's real sword and hosts an annual 'lifting the king sword' ceremony inside its main hall. Built in 1991 next to the original wooden shrine from 1920, this landmark offers visitors a glimpse into Thailand's rich history and is well worth a visit for history enthusiasts.
King Taksin the Great, who freed and saved Siam (former Thailand) from the ancient Burmese invasion. He had stopped here in Rayong during his rally to liberate the Kingdom of Ayutthaya from the ancient Burmese army. The legend has it that King Taksin the Great’s elephant was stabled at a large Parkia tree, which is in front of the shrine. This is a well-regarded place locals and Chinese visitors come to pray for lucks, especially during Chinese New Year and on December 28th, which is King Taksin Day.

The Shrine dedicated to the late King Taksin. This shrine offer the opportunity for Thais and foreigners to worship the late King and pray respects. This Shrine is very well maintain and beside the late King Taksin, there's also many other Buddhist duties for believer to come and worship. In the Shrine, there's a sword of the late King, a sword age more than 200 years old and it's open for public to take picture with the sword

Military Museums
The National Maritime Museum is situated about 5 km from the city center of Chanthaburi. Established in 1994 near Khai Noen Wong, it showcases underwater antiques from Tha Chalaep and offers a well-constructed exhibit detailing the maritime history of the city and its surroundings. The museum features a remarkable collection of cannons along the rampart, providing insight into the area's coastal history.
The museum is about all maritime history of trading in Siam. With all vessels that have been used in Siam. It is located up at the mountain in the old camp fort called Neon Wong fortress which was built in 1834. King Rama III of Siam in Siamese - Vietnamese war campaign. You can explore the old watch tower and the old brick wall which there were still canons on the walls. One of interesting is the display that educated about underwater archeology of how/ history of old goods that were found under the sea bed in gulf of Thailand. The highlight is big model of junk boat 1:1 which people can climb up and learn how it operate in the past. And the last is the history of King Taksin campaign after the defeated of Ayutthaya. How he became the king of Siam in those time. Unfortunately some of the materials shows very old and not proper maintenance. Hopefully any authority will manage budget for support this for tourists and students have better place for learn.

Be prepared that there is no air conditioning in the museum. If is hot 🥵 But the museum is well very okay for to do. Well done 👌👍😊

The museum entrance fee was too high for foreigners so we walked the rampart for 1500 yards with cannon most of the way. Greatest number of cannon collection I have ever seen. The wall around the old city is mostly intact. Awesome history here and along the coast 30 minutes away. I just don't understand why they discriminate against visitors to their country and overcharge their guests who want to learn about their country. It is opposite of how the people and culture should be.

It's Chanthaburians' main public park. When I was young, I jogged here with my mum a couple of days a week, and I could remember this atmosphere. And now I jog here again after 10 years (COVID has asked me to come home for 3 months already). People here are nice and friendly as always – happy to know many people love exercises. I notice that two things have changed: water here is much smelly, and there is a brand-new running track (2-km). It's better/milder for our joints and safer to run.

Park
Namtok Phlio National Park spans over an area of 52 square miles and boasts lush rainforests, streams, waterfalls, and diverse wildlife. Visitors can easily access a striking waterfall through well-constructed steps for a small admission fee while being assisted by friendly staff at clean restrooms. However, the trails on the opposite side of the waterfall are challenging to navigate due to moss-covered rocks which makes it dangerous without proper preparation.
Beautiful waterfall with flourishing forest alongside the pathway. This natural park center around Phlio waterfall (น้ำตกพลิ้ว) produces streams into a river in Chantaburi (จันทบุรี) along tropical rainforest throughout the pathway to the main waterfall as the final destination. The pathway is paved with concrete for better walkability except a few areas like streams shoreline and the waterfall itself that's mainly consists of large stone piece from the mountain that you need to be careful to be able to navigate properly. Would recommend for those who enjoy walking in a natural park or simply want to enjoy playing in waterfall water, which are decently cold and very clean with some fish to suck of your toes for food too. (The fish is Neolissochilus stracheyi to be specific)

It’s good and well organised, I just expected more trails. However the Thais don’t seem interested in them! Beware that there is no public transportation at this site. I started the 3.5 hour walk back to Chanthabury and eventually a lovely Thai couple picked me up, thank God. It was 34C and no clouds.

One of the nearby waterfall attractions, popular with the locals. Good thing it wasn't a long and rough hike, just 300 metres. Some of those fishes are bigass huge actually, and the big ones leave us alone. Water was really cooling and quite enjoyable for a hot day.
Rio W — Google review
Very nice waterfall, been there un the past and just came back for another visit. There are also a small natural pool where several teens were swimming in. There are also rocks where you can sit and put your feet in the water and small fishes will nibble on your feet, some people said it feels ticklish. The park doesn't allow you to bring food or drinks in. There's a picnic table you can consume all your food and drinks or put them on a shelf and reclaim on your way out. Overall the park is really clean (no garbage) and the staffs are nice. I've been to this park in the past and will most likely return in 5 or so years to watch the waterfall again.

A hidden gem in Chanthaburi! Nam Tok Phlio National Park is such a beautiful and refreshing escape into nature. The waterfall is stunning, especially after the rain — strong, clear, and surrounded by lush greenery. The trail to the waterfall is easy and well-maintained, perfect for a relaxing hike. I loved seeing the fish swimming around the base of the falls, and the air felt so fresh and cool. There’s also a small pagoda and historical monument that add a cultural touch to the visit. Great for nature lovers, families, or anyone looking to unwind.

If you're daring & don't mind a few giant spiders, take the nature trail. If you rather not, the road will take you strait to the waterfall. A spectacular view!

The view is great. It is a tourist attraction now. I have a problem with cold Americano. It is very bitter. When I saw the barista making the drink, I was not surprised about the taste. They brew 4 oz. Of liquid coffee instead of 2 oz. and add hot water. I was so disappointed with that expensive 4 head espresso maker.
Rochelle R — Google review
Mediocre coffee in supposedly cool setting. Quite a good selection of desserts and beverages, but the taste wasn't quite up to the price. The barista didn't even know what a 'double shots' macchiato was. Ok to while away the time, not something you will miss if you don't go when you are at Chantaburi.

Restaurant
Je Eed Seafood Noodles Chantaburi Old Town is a simple shop that offers very good seafood noodles, as raved about by many. The Tom Yum seafood noodles are particularly impressive, filled with fresh and uncommon seafood like mantis shrimp and crab claws. The regular portion is reasonably priced at 100B, while the upsized version with larger bits of seafood costs 120B. Despite the high prices, the food is tasty and worth trying.
Lovely noodle soup here after watching some videos on YouTube. I had pork noodles for 50 baht and my partner had the seafood noodles. Delicious flavour and so cheap. We paid 175 baht for two meals and 2 soft drinks. Elderly lady cooking was lovely too and so fresh. I have added photo of English translation.
REVIEW S — Google review
Hands down the BEST tom yum noodle soup dish you will ever try in ALL of Thailand. I dream about this place. Truly a must when in Chanthaburi!!!!
Debbie K — Google review
I don't know why this place is a 3.8 on google reviews. It's definitely much better than what the reviews reflect based on my experience. The ladies were very nice and helpful. I ate the seafood noodles dry because of my soy intolerance and my friend who had the soup liked it too. Tasted great. Seafood fresh and decent sized for 120 baht (just over $5 aud). Squid, mantis shrimp, crab, prawn. Delicious. And when you squeeze the lime with the peppery taste and bean sprouts and you mix the noodles, yummy. Would recommend.
Stef K — Google review
I think the food is tasty, but the prices are a bit high. The shop is small, the tables aren't very clean, and it gets really busy during peak hours. Staff might not have time for all your questions. I suggest going on a weekday and avoiding lunchtime.
Neeraj K — Google review
We visited after seeing the recommendation on Gary Butler's Youtube channel - The roaming cook. It was sooo good that we went again on our way back from Koh Chang. Best Tom Yum Noodles we ever tried. Dont expect anything fancy, just very good food.
Anat Y — Google review
I cannot complain the taste of the food here. Seafood is fresh, the broth is great and the noodle is perfect. However, this was my first time of waiting 45 minutes for one bowl of noodle even the shop was not crowded. I hope the shop should organize well for better service.
Triet L — Google review
Nice place for a meal - their tomyum soup noodle is amazing, one of the best I have tried. Only thing they pre boiled their seafood ahead and would have been better if the seafood cooked together. Also tried their BBQ Pork Rice, quite good too but their tomyum is their star and you can choose from mix seafood, crab, squid, prawns or crayfish. Dont forget to add on the fried pork skin too.
Andrew ( — Google review
Very good seafood noodles in a simple shop We came here after seeing a raving review on YouTube (by ‘the roaming cook’ who said it’s the best noodle he ever had in Thailand) The Tom Yum seafood noodles were indeed very good. They are stuffed with fresh seafood that is not commonly found in such simple shops. There were mantis shrimp and crab claws. The regular portion is 100B and the upsized (larger bits of seafood) is 120B. for a such simple hole in the wall eatery in Thailand that’s quite expensive, but given the quality and quantity of seafood definitely well worth the price. So don’t judge this place by its appearance, but by what you get. The menu is only in Thai, but basically it’s the first item on the menu, and you can point to the kind of noodles that you want at the cooking station.

Nice quiet little temple located up the hill at the entrance to the old Chanthaboon market community. Visitors might be greeted with a few dogs barking madly at them. I happened to have dog’s treat with me at the time, which made me their best friend instantly. In fact, these dogs are more scared of people than you think….

I had to quarantine for 1 day in Bangkok (Test & Go) and could only catch a later bus to Chanthaburi. The staff arranged for late check in and even arranged for my transport to visit a durian farm (abt 30mins out of town) the following day. Mek and his colleagues were super, quite outstanding really. Mek drove me on his motorbike to eat some amazing food at the old quarters and night market. He helped me arrange for my 5am transport to the bus station for the trip back to Bangkok. The Chanthaburi Waterfront Community ชุมชนเก่าแก่ ริมแม่น้ำจันทบุรี is a charming riverside neighborhood with restored houses and elderly residents sharing stories of the town's history. The area dates back 300 years to the arrival of Chinese and Vietnamese merchants, leaving cultural imprints on the buildings. Visitors can explore the Learning House, showcasing neighborhood photos and architectural designs.
Fact is there’s not a whole lot to do in the city of Chanthaburi, Thailand. So finding this strip along the river is a welcome relief. There’s a history to this area and the short story is Thais, Chinese and Vietnamese coexisted in this part of town which is why you’ll see influences of each culture through food, architecture as well as religion. There are lots of cafés, restaurants and cozy little hotels, some overlooking the river. I can imagine this area is busiest on weekends and finding parking space can be a real pain. Most of the restaurant/bars open in the evening but the smaller restaurants are open through the day. It’s a small narrow lane so be careful of motorbikes and cars. You can walk the entire waterfront lane, it’s only about 300 or 400 meters.
W. C — Google review
A nicely preserved historic area. It's great to see some of the old buildings being well cared for. If you like architecture this is an interesting area to explore. There's also many cafes, food stalls and street art here. You can walk across the bridge to visit the Roman Catholic church too. The only problem is that it's very narrow and the road is still open to cars- it needs to be pedestrianised.
Katie B — Google review
Community dates from 300 years ago when Chinese and Vietnamese merchants arrived. Buildings still bear their cultural imprint. Lots of eateries by the river and a good place to base yourself for exploring Chanthaburi. They should pedestrianize the main road though - pesky motorbikes!

I was expecting to see unique architecture reflecting the different cultures here. But there were no such buildings. It just looks like any other Thai street with only a couple of traditional houses left. This street is very commercialised too, lined on both sides with all kinds of shops, cafes and restaurants. This place is catered to domestic tourism. Do NOT expect to see any English menus anywhere. It's pleasant to stroll in it and eat some street food here. But it's not worth a special trip just to see this place.

Its OK to visit if you're in the town but I wouldn't make a special journey. Quite a lot of shops are closed up. A few selling local-style snacks and food. A few coffee shops etc. Plenty of parking at the cathedral then just walk over the bridge..

A pity walking there from the hotel was so unpleasant, not because of the distance but on account of having to come across main thoroughfares (no pedestrian crossing of course, vehicles accelerating when they notice you want to cross). All shops are closed on Sundays so plan your trip accordingly!

Buddhist temple
Wat Pak Nam Khaem Nu, also known as the Blue Temple of Chanthaburi, is a stunning Buddhist temple located near the seaside. The temple is adorned with beautiful blue and white ceramic tiles from wall to roof, giving it a unique and striking appearance. Originally built in 1946, the temple has become a new landmark in Chanthaburi due to its intricate Thai art and gothic supporting pillars.
The temple is beautiful. It's charming and has a great vibe about it. Stunning architecture. A scenic location. Come and pray, or just walk around admiring it's beauty!!

Even though it’s under construction at the moment, the contrast of white and blue is still beautifully impressive. You can also get a lovely view of the ocean from here.

This is a huge temple monastery, so big that we can see it from a mile away. On a sunny day, this blue temple is very photogenic. This temple us getting popular among tourists and during public holidays this temple will be packed with people. The outdoor may be decorated with blue and white ceramic, but the inside is decorated with colourful Thais style painting. Very beautiful in deed
Katethip V — Google review
The temple was originally built around 1946, but only appeared later in the blue design which gives it a particularly beautiful touch. There are many visitors here, and buses roll in and out of the area at regular intervals. In the area there is also a market place selling food, clothes and souvenirs, and there are several sidewalk restaurants that are located up against the temple area. There is a large parking space inside the area after passing the main entrance.

I love this blue temple for its amazing spectacular blue and white ceramic tiles! You can take so many beautiful pictures there! And it’s located on the seaside, you can feel the sea breeze when sitting there. It’s really worth you spend time looking around! Highly recommend!

This famous blue chapel temple is pretty nice. You need to see its detail of tiles closely. The temple is open all the time for people to donate for fixing all the broken parts. Inside the chapel is under renovation but people stil enter to give the respect to the very nice buddha statue. Parking are available around the temple.

The Pak Nam Khaem Nu or known as the Blue temple of Chanthaburi is located in Amphoe Tha Mai, Chanthaburi. It’s has a spectacular view with gothic supporting pillars and artistic intricate Thai art. The temple exterior is literally covered with blue tiles like the famous Portoghese glazed blue ceramic tiles “azulejos”. The interior walls represent stories of Buddha and at the central altar sits a large Buddha statue. Worshippers comes to offer prayers and make merit. At the entrance on the left hand sits a large gong and two large snakes statues “Naga” with several heads leading the main staircase. The temple is a work of beautiful Thai traditional art, artisans creativity and presents a lore of Buddhism philosophy and spirituality. The surrounding fishing village offer great food around the beach side and many scenic view points along the coast such as Chao Lao Beach, Laem Sing and other various points. A peaceful tranquil place away from the other touristic crowded zones. A place worth visiting and enjoying a peaceful drive.

Chanthaburi - Gems and Jewellery Centre is a must-visit destination for gem enthusiasts and those interested in the jewelry business. The center offers a well-presented display of various gems and jewelry, with many businesses selling a wide range of products from rings to Buddha statues. Visitors can also explore the museum to learn more about the industry. Additionally, there are laboratories available to check the origins of gems, making it convenient for buyers.
Very nice place to visit, especially for those interested in gems and jewelry. The museum is definitely worth it — it’s free and offers a lot of interesting information. The nearby shops also have a great selection of jewelry, and for those interested in verifying the authenticity of their gems, there’s an institute here that offers certification services.

We visited The gems and jewelry center in Chanthaburi. It is renowned for its vibrant trade in precious stones, particularly gems like sapphires and rubies which goes back many centuries. The gem trade in Chanthaburi began in the late 19th century when local miners discovered valuable gemstones in the surrounding areas. The town's strategic location along trade routes facilitated the growth of gem trading. By the mid-20th century, Chanthaburi had established itself as a major center for gem trading in Thailand. The influx of foreign traders and gem dealers, particularly from Europe and the Middle East, contributed to its growing reputation. Chanthaburi has a rich history of cultural exchange due to its diverse population, including Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese communities. This diversity has influenced local gem-cutting techniques and trading practices. In the 1980s and 1990s, the Thai government promoted the gems and jewelry sector as a key economic driver. This led to the establishment of the Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Center, which provides facilities for trading, exhibitions, and education. Today, Chanthaburi is one of the world’s leading centers for colored gemstones. It hosts numerous gem fairs and exhibitions, attracting international buyers and sellers. The city is known for its skilled artisans and craftsmen, who produce high-quality jewelry.

For anyone curious about the fascinating world of gemstones, the Chanthaburi - Gems and Jewellery Centre is an all-inclusive, one-stop destination which takes visitors on an engaging journey into the world of Gemstones, from the formation, types, origins, and historical significance of gemstones. The museum is exceptionally well-organized, offering in-depth insights into how gemstones are formed, where different varieties can be found, and how they have been treasured and used throughout history. One of the best parts of this experience is the transition from education to shopping. At the end of the museum, visitors can browse through numerous shops featuring stunning, high-quality gems and jewellery at beyond reasonable prices. The shopkeepers are incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable—helpful without being overly pushy, making the shopping experience enjoyable and stress-free. Whether you're a serious collector, a first-time buyer, or simply someone fascinated by the beauty and history of gemstones, this centre offers everything you need. The jewellery itself is breathtaking, reflecting both craftsmanship and authenticity. A must-visit in Chanthaburi!

Not that busy and well presented and displayed. Only one comment was the confusing road access; the front access couldn't continue to parking lot, so we got to get out to the main road again and re enter directly to the car park via different gate. No clear sign though.

Historical landmark
So much history to appreciate in this ancient town, dated back to 9th centuryAD, older than AngkorWat, but so little is preserved. The place is surrounded by local housing & plantations. There’s no signs showing how to get there, so just follow google map through private road, not much info posted about this ancient pool, use your own imagination & DIY online research. Then hop over to nearby ‘Wat Thong Kua’ temple museum to see some local artifacts. Free entry.
