We recently visited Fidel's and enjoyed a very tasty brunch! We had the Fried Chicken Waffles and the Huevos Rancheros. Both dishes were very tasty with lots of flavour. The coffee at Fidel's is also top notch which was great! It has a cool Cuban decor to it. A nice little spot for brunch!

So happy we stumbled across this place as the food was amazing. We ordered the eggs Benny with bacon and it did not disappoint. The flavours they used made it taste so good, it was different, but definitely the best we have ever had before. Not only that, the workers were really lovely and thank you so much to the kind gentlemen’s (I believe one was the owner) who moved their car so we could park outside the restaurant! They made the experience stress free as we were originally gonna do take-away. We are very thankful we got to receive the full experience dining in. Thank you so much for ending our last day in NZ with a great Brekky and a smile :)

Super cool space that you would never know existed above the storefront. We ate too quickly to take photos, but had the Thai beef salad, big breakfast, and the standard two egg plate. My son had a salted caramel milkshake that he said was wonderful. They have a full soda bar and coffee bar along with amazing pastries. It’s a little loud inside. We enjoyed catching up with family recently at the Seashore Cabaret, and this spot was perfect for the occasion.
Drove past it initially as there's no sign on the outside of the building, just the entrance menu adds, but the name is inside the covered door?
Anyway it's upstairs from there in the old dance hall, and photo's from that time are displayed prominently inside, and are alongside eclectic items from the past...great vibe, which combines into a unique theme.
The food is tasty and presentable, and fits within expectations. You won't be wowed but SC is efficient, and it has to be as this is one of the few places I've been to lately with a queue. Go early to beat it...
The icing on the cake is the view and on this day it was a deal breaker. Our coffee/lunch date was complete, and it was a pleasant experience. Reccomend.

My first time coming in here years.
The atmosphere was very loud however, this was due to all tables being filled.
I ordered the Bernaise Steak Sandwich x2 ($26 each) , kombucha ($6.50) , Lemonade ($5) & 2 donuts ($6.50 - 7 I can’t remember).
The steak was VERY thin, tough & dry. The steak was also grey (it was giving minute steak). Salad was like those bags u get from the super market.
The bread it was on also very thin and also NOT toasted. The value was not worth more than $15 -18. I advised a staff member nearly halfway through thinking I could handle it, as I mentioned to them I am on a time crunch I’ll just continue eating it.
In both drinks there were specs of coffee grounds.
The donuts were not issues and surprisingly very nice.
The waiter gave me 2 $4.25 coffee vouchers ($8.50) and didn’t seem apologetic which is okay as it’s not their fault. I was not satisfied when paying, so I asked rather than receiving coffee vouchers can I please have the drinks removed from the tab or something due to the food.
The staff were nice and sincere!! Which made the experience better despite the food being below average.
Definitely would not come here again which is unfortunate as I was bringing my mother out for a special breakfast. Both left disappointed and headed out to another place to eat. Total I paid $66.30.

I tried their eggs bene and I have to say the hollandaise/spinach sauce was beautiful. Everytime Im going out for breakfast, I got eggs bene and I love when chefs try something new because the flavours are always here. My partner had a fish and potatoes plate (forget the name sorry) and he liked it. Mixing it with the egg and the mayo was a good first meal of the day. We tried their coffees too, iced americano and flat white, and that was stronger than what im used to but I liked it. People told me Wellington has good coffee and thats true :)

Had dinner at Floriditas the other night. Shoutout to our hostess Dominic - she was super friendly from the start.
As the starter we shared the focaccia which was absolutely delicious - crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside.

What an awesome place!! This is possibly the best customer service I have ever experienced and some of the quickest food as well. Both servers were incredibly lovely and accommodating.
My partner had the waffles, which he really enjoyed, and I had the breakfast burrito. Both so so good. Price was around $40 for 2 meals and a drink (incredibly good for the CBD)
The atmosphere and vibe of this place was incredible, especially in the Sunday morning sun. Right in the CBD and next to bus stops, great location.

This was my first time dining at Loretta and dining at a restetaunt in general, as I get incredibly nervous eating out due to my allergies, but it was a fantastic experience!!!
The staff were so lovely and accommodating towards my allergies – Ruby and Anna were incredible – tripple checking everything to make sure it's safe.

Used “first table” to make a booking but table choice (small tables) wasn’t great and felt a bit crowded, later staff offered to move to a different table (a bit tucked away instead of the middle of the restaurant) which was really nice of them. A lovely place with great service - they kept filling water and attending to every table with friendly service. I was there after lunchtime but it was still pretty busy. I’ve been coming to Scorch-O-Rama since 2021 and always loved the quirky vibes, beautiful location, and brunch options, which is why I’ve recommended this place to friends and returned several times. But after my recent visit with three other friends, I’m genuinely disappointed and feel compelled to share our awful experience.

The food took over 40 minutes to arrive — we expected some delay but hoped the quality would make up for it. Unfortunately, it didn’t. One of the lattes we ordered was ice cold, and when we tried to request a bottle of water from a staff member who brought out our drinks, she just said, “I’m not a waitress,” and pointed to someone else. We had a family lunch there on one of those perfect Wellington days - sunshine, flat calm harbour and a table by the water. What I loved about it is that they are dog friendly indoors too which made it so convenient to bring in our pooch. What a gorgeous little cafe! Husband and I stumbled across this place this morning in need of a late breakfast. I read one of the other reviews saying the “Istanbul eggs were life changing” and legit; my husband wants to figure out the recipe to replace his usual go to (eggs benny).

The cafe setting is chic, definitely worth a try very compact breakfast menu. Toast with poached eggs was preferred by most of them.
Unfortunately our coffee was served Luke warm, also the wait time was way too long though there were tables available many were on the waiting to be seated (there were no reservations) the staff did take our details to call out when the table is clean but forgot- I think they might have been short staffed, however the cafe has high turn around would be nice is they have better customer service.

I had French toast with poached tamarillo and bacon. This was seriously delicious and my daughter had food envy. In saying that, she also loved her Istanbul eggs. We went before 10 and didn’t have to wait. Food and service were both fantastic. This was my first visit, but won’t be my last. My favourite cafe in Wellington. We didn’t have to wait to be seated but the staff did clearly tell us it would be a 45 minute wait for food which is no biggie.
The food was delicious and unique. I can see the staff have worked hard on their menu and my Masala hash was great, didn’t expect actual lime pickle in there!

Dropped in for a weekday lunch today and had my usual Eggs Benedict. Food and coffee was great however my eggs were overcooked and the yolk was no longer runny. The joy of an eggs bene is to have the yolk drizzling all over its contents once pricked! As disappointing as it was, the taste was awesome. Lower Hutt not so hidden gem. First visit here, lovely decor, modern but relaxing. The cafe was full when we arrived for brunch but staff found us a seat. Coffees arrived after a short period of time. The coffee was closely followed by the food. I had pancakes and the husband had the big breakfast. Efficient and kind staff. I brought a toddler with me. They brought over a highchair which was so helpful, although tricky with the lack of space to get it in a position that it wasn't in the way.
The playhouse area was brilliant with a great amount of quality toys and only had one entrance. I could sit up comfortably inside with room for two toddlers and a 10 year old to play around me easily. This was great for safety, but also made it a little tricky when there was more than one adult with a child as you can't see in very well and there is a table right at the entrance so you are constantly trying not to bother them.
The staff were so kind, not worrying when a stray toy made it's way out. They just spoke beautifully to my baby and gave it back again.
They were fast to serve our order, the food was presented well, tasted so good and had great portions. I love being able to order via QR code at the table, meaning you never have to wait to be served.
There isn't much room for wheelchair usage, but I saw a few spots that could work if they were available.

We enjoyed our meals at The Spruce Goose so much! My husband had the Seafood chowder and said it was the most flavourful that he has ever tasted. I enjoyed the Spruce Goose waffles and they were amazing! The cappuccino was perfect! I've heard a lot of amazing reviews about SG, so I was really disappointed with our visit.
The menu was small, uninspired and a bit dysfunctional. I ended up ordering salt & pepper squid which, whilst it was fresh and tender, lacked the salt & pepper - or any other flavour at all.
The chicken wings were golden brown and very crispy but again, no flavour at all.
The staff however we're very attentive, polite and did an great job - there was a lot of them.

Being a bit of an aeroplane fanatic, this is the perfect spot for a bite and a drink.
While the weather was a bit stormy and the sea was choppy, this was a perfect spot to enjoy a hot drink and breakfast.
As per usual, drink orders were taken first. Coffees and Teas all around!
The coffee was very good, the flat white smooth and creamy, hot and steamy!
Watching the surfers waiting for their next breaker, we all ordered our food.
3 of us ordered Eggs Benedict, and one ordered the Waffles.
The eggs were cooked perfectly, exploding onto the toast when cut with the knife. The hollandaise was light, slightly acidic, and the perfect compliment to the plate. The bacon was nice and crispy, and I loved the ciabata toast, well toasted.
The waffles were a treat, covered in syrup and a delicious cinnamon cream. The waffles had a nice crispy coating, and all went down a treat.
To top it all off, the prices were incredible, at around $20 per person.
So a delicious breakfast, lovely drinks, and the pleasure of watching the planes come and go all while the ocean churns away in the background.

I visited with a group of three on a Saturday afternoon and really enjoyed our time here.
It was quite busy when we arrived around noon, but we were seated quickly.
We ordered the seafood chowder, the breakfast sandwich special (fish of the day,

We went for dinner without a reservation on a Friday. Friendly reception and they found us a 2 person table with high chairs at the bar area. Passed by the restaurant during a food tour and I was told that they had a burger entry in a competition, which wasn’t available for order. So I settled on the spring roll and beef pho. It’s hard to get fried spring rolls terribly wrong, and fortunately, they didn’t. The pho, on the other hand, was pretty bad in terms of the clumpy noodles (which got better as I left it in the bowl longer), bland broth and lack of herbs. I hadn't been to Egmont Eatery for a while and noticed the interior decor and layout had changed which looked amazing. The service was top-notch. I can honestly say that it's one of the best attentive restaurant service that I've ever experienced in Wellington. The waitering staff were friendly, helpful and able to answer all of my questions about the menu and food options, which is how it should be.
The food was incredible. We started with the comte (cheese) souffle and focaccia bread, which was very different but amazing. For mains we had the grilled octopus, spiced lamb ribs with a side of asparagus. You could see how much effort had gone into each of these dishes. They were all delicious and the asparagus was perfectly cooked.
For dessert we had the poached pear. This was probably our least favourite dish of the night as the pear was quite firm. I was expecting the pear to be a lot softer and easier to cut into and it would've been great if it was accompanied with a yummy caramel/butterscotch sauce.
I'll definitely be going back there.

Incredible service and delicious food! All of the staff (especially the woman on the front till) were incredibly energetic, attentive, smiley and friendly. The food here is absolutely phenomenal - in particular, the waffles.
For $25, the waffles were a great portion size, presented beautifully and was overall a 10/10 meal. It was like a churro in waffle form - super soft and chewy but still very light with that classic exterior cinnamon sugar crusted crisp that churros have. The plum mascarpone toned down the sweetness, the strawberries were a great addition and the maple syrup was the cherry on top. As I mentioned, the size of the waffles was very generous, and we still managed to finish them all as they were so fluffy and not dense whatsoever.
The granola was really delicious and not like many others available in Wellington. Whilst also being presented beautifully, the house-made granola was abundant with chewy oats, sliced nuts, seeds and coconut, and was definitely binded with maple syrup which made it very soft, unlike typical granolas that are crunchy. I really liked this though - definitely one of the best granolas I have ever had. The sweetness was toned down by the greek yoghurt paired nicely with a berry jam, diced nectarine, sliced pear and maple syrup. They also offered milk on a side which was lovely. I did provide feedback to the waitstaff regarding the granola being a very minuscule portion which they very swiftly relayed to the chefs. The staff were very considerate and understanding, and ensured that I left satisfied.
Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Egmont St. Eatery and I would highly recommend that everyone tries their waffles. They were potentially the best waffles I have ever consumed in my life. I did find the cafe itself a little bit loud due to the music volume and conversing patrons, but that is more just of a personal preference. Awesome work team. I was very blown away with the hospitality you provided. Keep it up!

Disinterested service that I dont think could have cared less if we enjoyed our food, drinks or time in the restaurant as they never asked. Incredibly average and ill conceived food bordering on just bad, not one dish was memorable or finished. We spent $260 on dinner for two we left feeling ripped off and very disappointed. New Yorker here. I’ve been to plenty of bagel places outside of NYC (the epicenter of bagels) that have simply failed to meet the minimum requirements of what a bagel should taste like. Fortunately that is not the case with Ugly Bagels. These are legit.
I started with a simple, buttered and toasted sesame bagel. Delicious. Light but chewy, it has all the taste and texture and density I expect in a bagel. I’m used to walking into NYC delis and seeing baskets full of assorted bagel types, but Ugly Bagels has prepackaged packs of four arranged by type (plain, sesame, etc.). While I would have liked to have seen baskets organized by flavor (salt, cinnamon/raisin, blueberry, poppy seed, etc.) I won’t hold it against the shop.
Also, these bagels are a little thinner than the usual super-thick NY bagels, which is good because I don’t feel like I’m going to collapse in a food coma after I eat one. That’s a win.
I’ve been meaning to check this place out for a while now and I am not disappointed. I know my bagel-loving kids will be relieved they can get a taste of home here.

We found out they’ve started offering dinner this week, so had to come try them!
Comes & Goes has always been “that place with pretty food and drinks” and the brightly lit environment continued through into the night.
We shared a variety of the entrees, mains and dessert, and started off with the house-made ice tea & pina colada (Mocktail) which were both really good (and pretty!)
The fish of the day was Tarakihi, and we enjoyed the ceviche which had very beautiful tangy sauce to complete the flavour. It is a bit different compared to other places but we enjoyed this twist.
They were nice to give us a bit of each sauce to try, and we were very impressed with all the sauces for the fried chicken! The chicken pieces were juicy inside and crunchy on the outside, and all the sauces were really good! Couldn’t really pick a favourite, I was going to go with the yum yum sauce (Korean fried chicken sauce) but then the Delta sauce (a bit like thousand island) was quite nice and tangy, and the mustard was quite creamy as well! For something a bit different, you could also try the plum powder (I grew up eating this with Taiwanese fried chicken).
The salad was very pretty, the feta added the needed contrast to the beetroot and worked well together. The pork ribs had a tangy BBQ sauce and were very big!
For the mains, the steak was cooked medium-rare as requested, and we also were given all 3 sauces - the peppercorn one is very strong in pepper if it’s your type, and the mushroom sauce had a cumin flavour in it, but the red wine jus was just super gooey and was our favourite (high recommended!) - probably didn’t need the butter de paris with all these sauces but also an option, it has very strong herbs folded in (not brave enough to name the herbs out of thin air)
We were impressed with the market fish though! It was pan-fried and fresh, but still soft inside with a slightly crispy layer outside, and that potato puree was so good! We liked everything on this plate, the veges worked well together and this dish was happily devoured.
We also shared the panna cotta and the matcha creme brulee (matcha is everywhere these days I swear!) the panna cotta had quite a strong earl grey flavour and the poached pear slices were not soaked in sugar syrup which was refreshing, and the matcha creme brulee was just right, creamy and velvety but the matcha flavour comes through and worked very well - might be a bit too much raspberry sauce on the side but it’s up to you how much you want to add to it!
Petone is brimming with dining options but usually during day time, so now a dinner addition is always a welcome one!

The food and flavours on offer were an absolute delight - the chef has a talent for creating modern Asian Fusion that is vibrant, tastes spectacular, and is possibly the best presented kai in Wellington!

Writing a review purely just to say thank you for the exceptional service! My partner and I got the bacon and cheese scone, the honey focaccia and the caramel and banana (?) scroll today. On my first trip to New Zealand in July 2023, I asked someone at the Spark Store while getting my E-SIM for some good coffee recs (I'm from Melbourne, bit of a snob when it comes to coffee!) Unbelievable cafe! Super busy though so plan to wait, but totally worth the wait. Staff are amazing at juggling tables and customers, a very well run team. Amazing food! My daughter and I went to Maranui on a wet Tuesday afternoon…a convenient place to go just before a drop off at the Airport. Service was a bit slow, they were busy but not full. I ordered the big breakfast and my daughter the Maranui Magic Mushrooms. To cut a long story short…my daughter had terrible food poisoning from the ‘magic mushrooms’ that day. Lovely little cafe. Good selection of vegetarian and vegan food. I found the prices really fair and affordable and like that the cafe is paying a living wage. I had a tofu breakfast burrito, my daughter had eggs on toast with some added hash browns, and we shared a piece of banana bread. Can be quite loud inside when it is busy.

Relaxed vibe, friendly service, and great food. Good selection for the health conscious and even for the less carnivorous amongst us. The cheese and onion scone is ridiculously off the hook good, and the coffee is exactly what we expect as coffee loving Welingtonians....bloody good.
