This was the first spot we visited in Nanaimo, and we chose it specifically because it’s pet-friendly — we were traveling with our dogs and appreciated being able to dine outdoors.
We sat on the patio (of course!), and while the food was overall good and the area felt like a quiet, tucked-away spot in downtown, we did feel that the staff could have paid more attention to the outdoor diners. Service was a bit slow outside, even though it wasn’t very busy.

It’s a great option if you’re looking for breakfast or brunch.
We ordered the “Not a McMuffin” and the “Benson Stack.” Both were fresh and tasty. The Benson Stack was decent, but not amazing — in my opinion, the McMuffin was worth the price, but I’m not so sure about the Benson Stack; it felt a bit overpriced for what it was.
The biggest letdown was the coffee. I had an Americano and my friend got a latte — unfortunately, both were really disappointing. Honestly, I’d even say the coffee was very bad.

Gabriel’s Gourmet Café never disappoints! I tried the Vegan Green Eggs & Yam I Am and it was not only creative but so tasty and satisfying. The real star for me though will always be their coconut pancakes, hands down my absolute favourite. Perfectly fluffy, rich with coconut, and just the right amount of sweetness… I could rave about them forever. I also tried their new iced turmeric rooibos and it was refreshing and so delicious. Gabriel’s is easily one of my go-to spots when I want food that feels nourishing and indulgent at the same time.

Dainty little spot close to the waterfront. We ordered their signature breakfast wrap and it was pretty good, but nothing extravagant and the lox bagel which was really good. There’s a good amount of fresh, smoked salmon but I was hoping for a signature cream cheese or sesame bagel. Definitely love the cafe, the vibe, the interior, and the food! Such a lovely cafe with the antique concept. Tha food was great and large portion, I would say worth the price! We ordered the Vault salad, Lox bagel and the french toast, they all tasted wonderful! I also love how they have couple box of trivia game cards while you wait or to play with your friends. I had one of their burgers and honestly it’s the best burger I’ve had in a long time. Juicy, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor. aside from the incredible aesthetics, the staff were so sweet and kind to me and the food was so incredible. the soup options were completely new to me but i tried both of them on my day trip (one for breakfast and one for a late lunch lol) and both were just amazing. i wish this were in the uk so i could come every week.

We had a fantastic breakfast at The Breakfast Nook. The breakfast hash was fresh and flavorful, with perfectly cooked ingredients. The toast was served with butter and jam that were absolutely delicious—unlike anything we’ve had elsewhere. The potatoes were also a standout!
We also tried the waffle with a side of fresh fruit, which was delightful, along with a mocha and hot chocolate, both of which were excellent.

I have been there twice now and it doesn’t disappoint. Interesting atmosphere with huge plates of very tasty food. Just look at the pictures! The size of those pancakes! It is a typical OLD style restaurant. Emphasizing the OLD. The decor is not only outdated but many booths have stains etc. The service was generally OK. I watched the person who i believe is the owner serve others with the enthusiasm of a knat. He clearly has no personality and should really stay in the back of the house. Prices are definitely premium for average at best, although ok breakfast. Over $30 for an omlette and hash browns is crazy. He adds $3 dollars for $1 of hash browns. This is bad enough but what is implied as a upcharge to poutine hashbrowns for what the menu says $6 is in fact and additional $6 with a glob of what tasted like instant hollandaise sauce added to the already $3 upcharge for a total of $9 addon upcharge. I dont get how these places stay open. I get why thier reviews are what they are. I would suggest anyone who wants to pay less for more go across the street to Ricky's Grill. At least they are up front and don't addon for what everyone else includes. Nuts in my opinion.

It was on my list to try because I saw in the reviews that they offered vegan and gluten-free options. I picked up a vegan Nanaimo bar to go. I was surprised to see there was no indication of anything being gluten-free, even though all of their Nanaimo bars apparently are and it it clearly indicated on their outside sign they have vegan and gluten free options. Nothing but rave reviews for this gem of a bistro which offers gourmet dishes using innovative, fresh, quality ingredients. The albacore tuna avocado toast (with optional poached egg) was superb and bursting with a melange of complimentary flavours. The eggs benny with duck confit were also excellent as were the ones with smoked salmon. These came with a side of fresh fruit or baked beans. Just stopped by on a whim. The server was so friendly and kind. We got seated on the small patio, the potted flowers were a nice touch to the atmosphere. The food was fresh and delicious. Nestled on Nanaimo’s sunny heritage street, I highly recommend visiting this absolute GEM to anyone passing through or visiting Nanaimo. The ambiance is lovely, homey, with stunning art all over the walls and it feels like you’re in someone’s heritage house’s breakfast nook. There are two outside patio tables. The staff are fabulous and although it was busy they got us seated and fed quickly, without feeling rushed at all.
The food was delicious and definitely made with love and care. Everything was fresh, most was local and the potatoes au gratin were a real standout. Next time I go, I’ll get the house made English muffin with the Benny!

We were passing through Nanaimo, had great experiences in the past with other locations, so thought it a great option for lunch. I ordered the beef dip…..it tasted funny, but I wrote it off to the dip maybe being different, but nope! Lovely place to get pancakes and waffles. The food is great with more focus on breakfast stuff.
The place can get quite packed and busy as it's quite popular and the location is quite good.

Went here for breakfast before 9 on Sunday and was absolutely blown away by both the portion sizes, and the customer service. Our waitress was attentive, kind and courteous. I have a few gift cards from Christmas. Was planning to use them all, but found out you can only use one card per person per visit. Which is fine, because I go a few times a year anyway.
The steak was awesome. Nice and thick, and cooked perfect. Surprisingly, one of the best steaks I've had in Nanaimo. The asparagus on the side was quite small, and should have been left off the order to be honest.
But the rest of the sides were great.
This place can be very busy. Especially weekend mornings. But we got a table within 20 minutes, and were eating within 20 minutes of being seated.
Server was polite, and prompt.
EDIT: Adding a few more pics from a return visits. Breakfast on a weekend, the waiting area is usually busy. As usual, the turn over was quite fast and we waited only about 15 minutes.
