This is in reference to the take away counter at lunchtime.
I have been using this restaurant for lunch take away for years, well before its in the hand of the current owners.
I normally pick up lunch box from this place twice a week and for the last two month noticed the the portions of food you get with the regular lunch box are getting smaller and smaller, however, yesterday was a new record...
the food left in the trays at the counter was looking dry and a few options totally missing.
before ordering i had asked if they have fresh noodles and more breaded chicken strips. The young Chinese looking lady had answered that i will get everything fresh. However, then filled up my lunch box with the dry noodles from the counter tray and added on top a very small amount of chicken that was freshly made but very small quantity... asked for £6.50 before handing the box to me. i had pointed out that she took the dry noodles and that the box is only half full, but i was ignored. to avoid making a scene i paid and went away, upset feeling cheated and the noodles were dry and hard to eat..
i think that this place is going down fast and would not recommend it to anyone there are plenty of better places for lunch take away in the centre of Bristol.. see photo

Yakinori is a family favourite, and Bristol’s Japanese and South Korean community seem to agree, as they took half the seats when we went in for lunch. The main courses (in our case Mighty Duck Pokenori, a steak bowl, and a coconut curry [I think]) are easily enough to fill you up; but on this occasion we pushed the boat out and Gyoza and Bao Buns (OK and some edamame). Food arrived fast, hot and super fresh, but there is no rush to eat and leave, we dallied for a long lunch catch up, it was lovely, as it always is.

I was worried at first when I found out Nomu had switched from in-house kitchen, to pop ups. I shouldn't have been. The unagi kitchen food was incredible and very quickly delivered with high quality. We had a mix of veggie and meat and they were all cooked to perfection, and the sauces were flavourful. We ordered two cocktails on arrival which also hit the spot, but weren't able to order another two without going up to the bar. The restaurant was moderately busy so understandable, but would have been nice to have another. Overall, however, a great experience and would recommend to anyone.

It used to be a quite good Japanese restaurant in Clifton, but now they have changed everything including menu. Interior looks more brighter, but seating is not comfortable. I don't think you like the idea of seating on a stool when you go for a proper dinning.
Secondly, Menu is totally disaster. There are not many options to select in mains. It's very limited and feels like a set menu. No prawn cracker or any sort of condiments. Why no prawn crackers???
No more Dessert menu. Only option is something rice with ice-cream.
Overall they have downgraded their restaurant alot and it's not a good experience.
Only positive thing is food quality is still same.

They have just started doing Hong Kong style breakfast and lunch. Absolutely amazing food! We had french toast and char sui pork with sunny egg and rice. The French toast would give any Hong Kong cafe a good run for their money and the char sui pork was simply amazing, superb flavour with just a slight hint of crispiness on the edge. Also genuine tasting Lai char ( milk tea). We will be back to try other things on the menu. It's so great to have good quality Hong Kong food in Bristol. Really delicious meal here with the Unagi pop up kitchen. The food was so delicious and the portion sizes were generous. The waiter hosting us did a great job as we were a large group and he was by himself - he was so accommodating and friendly! You can get jugs of beer from local breweries like Lost and Grounded which comes out to 4 pints for around £5 each. The interior is decorated very well too.

This was my second visit to this restaurant, and once again, it exceeded expectations. I tried the spicy minced pork and chashu udon—it was absolutely delicious, with a very generous portion for just £14. The bowl was packed with chashu and minced pork. For the price, we were disappointed. The chefs choice sushi / sashimi platter is almost all just the cheaper stuff and was all sushi not sashimi, so we would not recommended. The amount of fish we got was tiny for £50. The execution was also poor and rushed, with the ends of the sushi rolls falling apart and ragged. We did get an ungodly amount of wasabi included though - more than anyone would use unless you like eating it neat. Izakaya is a quaint Japanese restaurant, boasting a large menu filled with all your favourites, and some things you've always wanted to try.
The atmosphere is so cosy, the murals on the wall add just that extra bit to the atmosphere.
The food was perfect, my friend and I had the Pumpkin Katsu that was fried to perfection, being served a healthy portion was an added bonus.
The staff were very friendly - the whole dining experience was really relaxed and the food came out quickly.

Very quick and friendly service and for Bristol city centre, very fair prices. I had the green tea which was lovely and teriyaki rice bowl alongside a side of fried pork gyoza. Very inconsistent - quite disappointed.
The first time I visited Kibou, was a 5 star experience. The service was 10/10 and the food was amazing as displayed in the first picture.
The second visit (no more than 2 weeks later) the quality seemed to have dropped dramatically. I was served by the same staff, I noticed the service was terrible compared to the first experience. I had ordered the same dish and the food quality/ presentation was appalling, as seen in the second photo.
I was actually made to feel like I had done something wrong. I genuinely can't figure out the reason things were so different. If it wasn't such an important dinner, I'd have left.
Won't be returning as I'm not sure how I'll be treated or what the food quality will be like. One thing for sure, is the prices will be the same regardless.

Portion size here is slightly bigger than most restaurants of this type & the food was fresh tasting with it also being very well presented.

The chef did make a mistake with our sushi dish, as the sushi rice had wine. We asked for normal rice, but was given the normal dish instead.

Firstly, the restaurant is in the pub, and there is no segregation. Orders are made on the counter bar. This might be a bit confusing for first-timers. I went there on a Friday evening so the place was quite full and rather loud. The staff made good recommendations about the food, however I must say they were on the pricey side. Excellent and authentic Japanese food served here! We had their Sunday menu which although limited was really good. We met one of the owners and chef, Liam and Marion who were lovely people and clearly passionate about bringing true Japanese cuisine to Bristol. Very unusual indeed but on the upside, there’s not many close to authentic okonomiyaki restaurants in the UK and this place does serve a good Osaka style okonomiyaki. Really tasty Japanese food in the HillGrove Porter Stores pub - more like tapas as we ordered quite a few dishes. The Okonomiyaki (like a potato and cabbage pancake) and the cold noodles (with really tasty sauce) were the biggest, and we also had chicken, mackarel and kimchi, all in a nice tucked away beer garden with some great beers to accompany, really nice evening. If they maybe put a couple of extra things on the menu for some extra choice it would be even better.

We visited end of July when we dropped into Bristol for an evening during a long roadtrip after seeing so many good reviews and we were not disappointed.
Pub itself is in need of some redecorating. But Kansai Kitchen provides a great menu of amazing Japanese dishes that makes up for it! Chef had spent some time training in Japan and he has bought back great flavours and techniques!
Okonomiyaki was delicious! We got it with oysters but I could have easily ordered all 4 different flavours. The cold sesame noodles was lovely and refreshing too!

40 minute wait time during peak hours and the food was brilliant!!! My japanese friend was visiting bristol and we decided to try it out. We got the karage (unfortunately didn’t like the yuzu sauce but the chicken was amazing), kimchi, fried sweet potato and black sesame ice cream. Today’s dinner, back to a place I’ve visited many of times and now pretty much tried the menu.
Today may have not been their best food I’ve had, the gyoza are normally charred on the bottom and then steamed but mine were a little too burnt but not inedible just a little bit too torched for my liking. But all round good sticky sushi rice, dressed nice and solid flavours with the dumplings.
Seating here can always be a bit hit n miss but plenty of space today. Not my favourite choice to sit and eat but It works for what it is.

I ate at Eatchu after having my husband find this place few months ago while being on tour.
I had mushroom gyoza on udon noodles (which didn't look like udon at all, more like rice flat noodle) and he had chicken & pork mix on rice topped both with vegan mayo. Oh my god how great these dumplings were! Flavourful but not too strong, not too greasy and nicely crispy. The dipping sauce was perfectly complimenting them too. We also had kimchi which tasted good too - you could tell it was made in-house than bought in bulk.
The customer service was lovely and very accommodating. Eating outside made the whole experience even better. I will be definitely coming back there while visiting Bristol!

Went for a birthday meal with some family last night, I was seriously impressed with seven lucky gods. The food for a start was incredible, as a 'tapas' style restaurants it comes out as it's ready which seemed to be quite quickly. Food was nice and filling although the chilli oil with the dumplings was way too salty. I'm always one for flavour and I love chilli oil but this one was way too over powering with the salt that we barely finished it. Everything else was super delicious though.

I just had my hen do here and it was wonderful! The lovely Alice booked the private dining room for us which was gorgeous and set up with our jugs of sangria and had a great playlist on. We booked via first table and maybe that’s why the experience was sub par. The tuna belly looked like they’d emptied a can onto a potato salad - it was canteen standard. The other dishes we had were lovely and valued accordingly. The cocktails were great, however, the sangria was clearly made with a syrup and cheap alcohol as it was really sweet. Wine selection was good, with enough options by the glass and excellent cocktails. Well worth trying the Vermut if you fancy something a bit different.

Went here solo to try their tofu and mushrooms bibimbap.
I have not had this 'standard' of bibimbap in a very long time. Only the mushrooms were cooked and seasoned properly. The fried tofu piece were overly dry, and along with the rice were lukewarm. The fried egg in the middle, along with the other ingredients, pretty much had no temperature. No sauce came with the dish, but some were available on each table.
Had to clean the table myself. I do wonder if it's always like this.

This place is wonderful; great menu, delicious food, friendly staff. They had all my favourites and then some: xiaolongbao, chicken feet, cheung fun and more! Everything we’ve tried has been delicious and fresh. Their siu mai is quite good and their har gau is excellent. I tried the Chashu Ramen at this lovely Japanese restaurant—my second visit here. The chashu portion was generous and absolutely delicious. While you we're waiting for your food to come, there was a screen at the front that showed the different dishes and how they we're made. You didn't have to wait long though because your chosen meal came steaming hot and smelling spectacular. I ordered orange juice and I could tell it was made if actuall oranges instead of sweeteners. For my starter I had chicken tsukune - which is basically chicken meatballs - and it was delicious; the meat was succulent and a bomb of flavors! After that, I had pork Katsu udon as my main course which also surpassed my expectations. The portion of udon was very big and filling; I would say it was a portion for two. After eating, my mood was on the upside and my stomach was warm and happy. The room was comforting enough to even stay and talk with my friends.

We visited Tuk Tuk as we’d heard their Korean Fried chicken was delicious and it certainly was, it was the highlight of our meal. The beef brisket boa buns were also delicious, the meat fell apart. The chicken dumplings were tasty, personally we prefer fried ones, although they had a slight crisp on the bottom and for steamed dumplings they were the tastiest I’ve had. The sauce with them was also very nice, in other places I’ve found it too acidic but it was the perfect balance and really added to the flavour. Friends ordered the prawn bites and salt and pepper squid which they both enjoyed. They also had the katsu fries, the sauce was really good, although they did find the powder on top had quite a kick to it (it’s not listened on the menu so if you want it mild ask them to leave this off). We also shared the yakitori, Japanese style chicken teriyaki skewers which we wouldn’t order again. It tasted fine but we all felt we were expecting more from the dish and compared to everything else was just okay. The chicken pieces are small so you get more for your money from the other dishes portion or taste wise.
Service was great, the staff were friendly and attentive. One friend requested no peanuts on her chicken, a preference, but they were good to straight away check no allergies.
We pre booked online on the day, it was quick and easy to do. We visited 6:30 on a Saturday evening, most others were walks ins and it was fairly busy. The food came out quickly and nice and fresh and hot.

Unfortunately, my recent visit to this restaurant was incredibly disappointing. Not only was the food below standardlacking flavour and freshness but the cleanliness of the entire establishment was shocking. The place appeared as though it hadn't been properly cleaned in a very long time.
The photos speak for themselves: heavy dust buildup on fittings and a sink area in the toilets that was so dirty I had to resort to using my own hand sanitiser rather than touch anything. Paper waste was left around, grime in the corners, and general poor hygiene throughout.
A clean environment is the minimum any customer should expect especially in a food establishment. I hope the management takes these concerns seriously and addresses them urgently. I won’t be returning.

SOOOOO Glad we tried this place. Crazy good value. Thursday afternoon lunch for a little treat outside our normal area and well worth the trip. Food was strikingly fresh and the tofu Pad Thai was overflowing with deliciously cooked tofu. It was some of the best we have had. Staying at a hotel around the corner so called in here on a whim. So glad I did because it was a great find. I got a few "small" plates, but they are not small at all. I’ve visited here a few times now on lunch breaks over maybe last 2 years and I will say it’s impossible not to give this a 5star rating!
My favourite and go to dish here is the fried chicken donburi, sweet and succulent chicken thigh, with a golden crisp with mouth watering flavours this dish really hits that Friday treat vibe.
Freshly cooked sticky rice with that touch of rice vinegar and those pickles of the week always hit! And with that umami mayo with leak and garlic just tops off the dish.
When I say this place is proper food it really is! Real flavours real food cooked with real passion! - such a diverse menu also, another favourite of mine is the Japanese curry, with potato, carrots and onion just hits the spot when you need something with big depth of flavour and warming.

I started with a banoffi matcha (I will never get over it) wow! As a lover of Japanese food I have wanted to try Lonely Mouth for a while. Having sampled their delicious fried chicken and rice set at their pop up at the Volunteer Tavern, I had high expectations and took a rare baby-free hour to myself to pay a visit.
My expectations were exceeded with the warm and buzzing atmosphere. Busy and with great music. It felt worlds away from the rainy Gloucester road outside.
I sat at the window and watched the world go by as I waited for my coffee and french toast. It took a little while (maybe 20mins) but it was absolutely worth the wait.
The coffee was notably spectacular and I loved the mug it came in too. The french toast was exactly as expected; sweet, indulgent, maybe a little over the top but with a great balance of flavours. As someone who is usually a savoury brunch gal I enjoyed it thoroughly. A real treat.
I will definitely be back to try the chazuke and the breakfast set in the future.

I want this place to do well. The Japanese breakfast was so comforting to eat and I would get it again as they didn’t have the eggs this time, but the silken tofu was delicious. Looking at other photos I’m now realising my miso soup was meant to have some tofu and seaweed :(. The soup arrived cold but was very kindly replaced by the chef. Our drinks and cake took half an hour to arrive which was disappointing. The barista had a lot to do by herself and was overwhelmed so I don’t fault her. I just hope they hire more staff so they aren’t so short staffed leading to more negative reviews, because the place has everything it needs to be amazing, except enough staff and perhaps enough food. The mochi strawberry cake was perfect and they serve real good coffee. I want this place to succeed, it’s an amazing concept and I look forward to the menu being expanded.
