Definitely not recommended. I ordered 2 chicken fried rice and garlic chicken from here, it took almost 45 minutes for them to complete the order. Initially the cook and reception guy was chit chatting. When I asked how much time to get the order, they started cooking. It took almost 45 mins for me to get the food. This home stay is really good if you are planning for one night stay. It's run by a lady. She is nice in nature. The rooms are good but its missing few basic necesseties like Water bottle in rooms, night lamp, combined double bed, AC, etc. The shower was not working properly. The room was too small. No food option for Veg. people here. As she is only the lady, there is no one around to care of things if you need. You can only stay here if you have very low budget or don't want basic luxuries. A place of goodness: our best dinner in the 3 weeks of our India trip. The location is not special, but seeing the owner, who is also the waiter, cooking our food in her spotlessly clean kitchen was a treat. All her ingredients were fresh. You will pass a vegetable patch with chickens and be welcomed into a quaint little courtyard. There is classic rock music playing to settle you in and relax you as you gaze over the simple menu. I personally liked the paratta and chicken "kondatam"( i don't know how to pronounce it). We went to this restaurant for lunch because it was recommended by our driver.
None of the rice items were available. So we ended up having appam and porotta along with beef roast, beef fry and chicken kondattam.
All the dishes were excellent. We were the only customers in the restaurant at that time. It was a relatively small place. There were some nice graffiti on the walls.
The service wasn't fast but the servers were quite polite and helpful.
I would definitely try out their other dishes in season if I visited again in season.

Cant say for sure what sort of a place this is. Looks shady, got good cheesy food and is hardly frequented by People even at peak hour during peak season. This place is incredible! Not only do they REALLY make their own pasta, which I have never ever seen in India before, but they cook everything fresh, amazingly tasty and perfectly crafted.. No matter if you eat continental or Indian or anything else on the menu, it's super good! Believe me, I tried.. ate here for 6 days in a row and never went anywhere else after the first time.. These guys are real cooks! Places like this are rare to find.. The café is located close to the Periyar Forest Reserve, making it very convenient.

We had a terrible experience dining here. We chose this place based on the good ratings, but the food was far from what we expected.
Thekkady is indeed known for its spices, but that doesn’t mean they should be added to every dish regardless of the cuisine. In the tiny open air space at the top of his house, the Tiger Chef took us through a range of recipes step by step. We had lunch here on the way back from Kodaikanal. The south indian meals lunch was tasty except that the rasam which I wanted much, was a bit too oily. The side dishes were served separately in a separate plate and the rice quantity was a little too much for us. The rice could be personally served as and when needed in little quantities to avoid wastage was my personal opinion.
Washroom was neat and wash areas after food was neat too. Seating arrangements was good.

This place went unnoticed during the day on our way to the hotel. But at night, the lights on the terrace caught our attention. Kitchen Utopia Cafe is situated on the terrace. Selection of lights is such that it enlivens the ambience.
When it came to ordering food, Pumpkin Soup was highly recommended by the owner of the restaurant. Along with that we ordered Hot Ginger Lime and Honey, Chicken 65, Roti, Kerala Parotha and Rajma Masala. Hot Ginger Lime and Honey was a relief for my sore throat. Pumpkin soup was creamy and delicious and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the restaurant. Kerala Parothas were soft and went really well with the home cooked style Rajma Masala. Rotis were a bit hard though. Loved the Chicken 65 preparation as well.
When it came to service, we were informed prior to placing our order that they would require 15-20 minutes for preparing our order. Service was quick and all the food items were brought in while still hot. The owner and waiter were friendly and polite. The food portions were pretty good considering the prices.
A great time accompanied by great food is how I would summarize our visit to Kitchen Utopia Cafe.

Edit1 - Decided to dine in at Utopia for lunch for one last time. We wanted to try out new food items. So we went ahead with Paneer 65, Kerala Fish Fry for starters and Chicken Biriyani, Veg Fried Rice as Main Course. Special Lime Soda and Kerala Style Buttermilk is what we opted for to beat Thekkady's heat. Paneer 65 was fried to a nice crisp on the outside with the soft texture of Paneer retained on the inside. 2 Tilapia fishes is what we got for Kerala Fish Fry garnished with loads of fried Garlic and Currry Leaves. Chicken Biriyani was tasty and very similar to what mum makes at home. Veg Fried Rice isn't the typical ones you get elsewhere and was slightly high on Soy Sauce. Special Lime Soda had Basil Seeds in it along with a bit of Special Syrup (It tasted like Nannari). Truly glad we returned to Kitchen Utopia Cafe for the second time.

Wonderful, good quality coffee. Staff were friendly and talked through all the coffee beans and other coffee granules. The ginger coffee was delicious!
