My Negative Experience at Villa Sassa Hotel I recently stayed at Villa Sassa Hotel in their Grand Suite room. Expecting a luxurious experience, I specifically informed the hotel by phone that I would be traveling with a young child and requested the room to be prepared accordingly. However, upon entering the room, I was shocked to find that the room was not prepared at all for a child. There were two huge glass tables that posed a serious safety hazard and made the room very uncomfortable. The furniture was also very old and outdated, definitely not matching the expectations for a "Grand Suite." The photos attached do not fully reflect the condition of the room. At around 2:30 AM, the air conditioning in the room broke down, causing great discomfort. The air conditioners, especially the one in the living room, were very noisy and clearly old. For people sensitive to noise, these units are absolutely not suitable. had to go down to the reception twice during the night. Thankfully, one young staff member at the reception was very helpful and did his best to assist me. However, the next morning, another reception employee spoke to me in a rude and threatening manner, saying things like, "If you speak properly, we can continue this communication." Such behavior is unacceptable in customer service. Furthermore, the restaurant staff were mostly rude and arrogant. When we asked about items not on the menu, we were told, "Please do not ask about items that are not available." The poor English skills of the waiters made it difficult to communicate and place orders. Additionally, the hotel did not offer any healthy breakfast options, which was disappointing. Due to these issues, I requested a 30% refund. However, the staff informed me that the manager is on vacation and they cannot process refunds at this time. They only offered a discount on a massage service, which I did not accept. Attached are photos showing the large glass tables in the room, which clearly demonstrate why this room was not suitable for a child. I expect a written response and proper resolution from Villa Sassa management. I am sharing my experience so that others do not go through the same problems. I strongly advise anyone considering staying at Villa Sassa Hotel to be cautious.

First, I truly appreciate the room upgrade we received (from a premium suite to a grande suite). The staff are very kind and supportive. We in fact appreciated the shuttle service from and to Lugano Central Station. The hotel is greatly located, accessible by public transport, and some suits offer great views to Lugano lake and the city. Our villa was air conditioned which is both rare and a great feature. The pools looked cleaned, and the infinity pool offered amazing views towards the lake. However, the inside pool was occupied by the aqua fitness courses and we could not enjoy that. In addition, the breakfast was modest, though the scrambled egg was particularly good. They also offer a very nice coffee. About the suit: I expected our suit to be more charming, however it mostly looked empty and there were no specific decorations like the official photos. So, the vibe was a bit disappointing and the room equipment was rather old. Overall, the view and staff made it worth the money we paid.

Comfortable, quiet, great views from rooms and outside restaurant terrace, very good breakfast, helpful and friendly staff. Unusual and novel layout, the room I had was much bigger than expected, comfortable bed. Overall, well maintained and clean, also good value. Check room view on booking as other side of hotel misses out on the awesome mountain and lake views.

The hotel and facilities were really beautiful, and the staff were super friendly. I had booked a premium suite, and they upgraded me to the top floor. The apartment was huge, with three bathrooms and two bedrooms. The view was absolutely amazing. The amenities at the hotel make you just want to stay in all day without even going out.

Service in the hotel- top of the top. Super kind, helpful. Rooms are specious (at least mine was). Great location with the view over the lake. Also not far from the train station- max.10 minutes walking distance. The only thing I would pay more attention is the cleaning service - dusty hanging from lamps etc.- not a really nice view ;) Also- internet connection working perfectly.

I did not enjoy my stay at Villa Sassa. The hotel is very old and dated, with worn-out furniture and a confusing layout that feels like a maze. The elevator didn’t even work, and the whole place is in desperate need of renovation. We tried dining at the restaurant on the property, and the food was terrible. I ordered the Wagyu burger, but the meat smelled strange and was inedible. We also tried the fried mixed fish, which was equally bad—we ended up leaving our food. The amenities were also disappointing. There isn’t even an iron in the rooms—there’s only one for the entire property, located in the laundry room. The staff were not helpful either, and one older gentleman in particular was quite rude. The only positive thing about this hotel is the view, but unfortunately, everything else fell short. I would not recommend staying here.

Really? Most of the five star reviews of this hotel have no comments! Can someone say fake? We're here now and the place is OLD, I mean OLD. It's clean but looks like you're in a 1960s movie and not in a good way. The picture is from the nightstand. Stay somewhere else for sure.

Breakfast staff really friendly but otherwise feel that the hotel itself and the experience did not live up to the price..the room was okay but no lake view and an odd smell on the balcony (potentially coming from the kitchen) and no hot water on our last day..with no apology from the staff at check out. We didn’t have a car so going in and out of Lugano and the hotel there was always a big climb (but a short cut through the woods is possible)

This hotel is beyond a 4 star hotel. It is really feels like a luxury 5 star stay. Rooms are very spacious with the most high tech features you can feel the luxury in every inches from coffee machine to the toiletry .It has a very nice balcony with a view .The property also was so peaceful with lots of greenery .The breakfast was amazing with a view. They have indoor pool as well. Just please keep in mind that it is a up hill area just less than 8 minutes drive to the Downton

We are so glad we still have another night here. I'm surprised this is not ranked as a 5 star hotel. Spacious and immaculately clean room, panoramic views of the lake and town, big balcony, lots of closet space, coffee maker, robes, fantastic water pressure and temperature for the bath. Comfortable beds and free WiFi and friendly & efficient staff . I would absolutely recommend staying here.

Unbelievable experience. Excellent 5 stars like service. The bar, dinner options and breakfast buffet were fantastic. We ate every day at the hotel and every single course was delicious. All staff, being it at the reception, spa, bar, restaurant, night manager etc were so very customer focused and welcoming, made us feel very special. The location and it‘s view is 10/10. We will be back for sure! Thank you 🙏🏼

The staff member who was at the buffet had a very rude attitude. I arrived at the buffet a bit late while my family was already inside having breakfast. I went to serve myself some food, and at exactly 10:42 AM, the staff member approached me angrily and told me not to take any food. I explained that my family was sitting at that table and pointed them out to him, but he still refused. I then asked, genuinely and politely, “So what should I do now?” and he responded with a harsh tone, saying: “Next time, come earlier than this.” I swear it hadn’t even reached 10:45 yet. What made it worse was that there was another girl on the other side serving herself food at the exact same moment, and he said nothing to her. It felt unfair and disrespectful. Also, he was the only staff member who behaved this way — the rest of the team was very polite and welcoming.

A perfectly decent dinner option, some portions are very large (a pizza could easily be shared by two or three). Maybe slightly lower quality compared to a Whole Foods (US) hot bar. Less expensive than almost anything in the immediate area. Many food options when fully operating but they will expand or reduce operations depending on the time and day.

This cafeteria style of restaurant offers an overwhelming selection. Initially I was overcome by the vast options but then I saw one of the cooks serving a dish of meatballs. Decession made. Their soup selection called me. The layout and presentation of the available dishes are striking. This place is worth a visit at least once just for the experience. I would visit here again. On a negative note the mens bathroom needs attention. Look at the pictures. Not a good look. The management of this establishment should take immediate action to correct the deficiencies.

The food was okay and the place was clean and well kept. Service was decent, and it’s a convenient spot for a quick meal while shopping at the mall.

For the some of the lowest prices in the city, we were pleasantly surprised that the experience was fun, the options were plentiful, and the pasta was tasty!

At first, I thought this restaurant was like Tibits, where you can choose whatever you want and pay by weight. But that's not the case. From the moment I walked in until the moment I left, everything was absolutely fantastic. First and foremost, let's talk about the food. The variety and quality of options available were remarkable. What truly stood out during my brunch experience was the exceptional service provided by the staff. The ambiance of the restaurant was another factor that contributed to the overall enjoyment of my brunch. The space was stylishly decorated, with a perfect blend of contemporary and cozy elements.

We came here for breakfast and ordered sfogliatella, juice, pizza and cappuccino. Everything was very tasty. Unfortunately the staff was not so good... It seemed like they were not especcially interessed in guests. The coffee was brought to us when we were finishing our food. There is no English or German menu, so foreign tourists may have problem.

The best Italian pastries we had while in Lugano - so good, we ate here twice. And the dense hot chocolate was wonderful.

Lovely little café in Lugano! We stopped by for breakfast and had a croissant and hot chocolate. The croissant was absolutely incredible—flaky, buttery, and fresh out of the oven. 📝 Cute bar/ coffee place in the center of Lugano with a low-key atmosphere. Service was very good but prices were in my view too high for Lugano: on par with Zurich. ☕ We had cappuccino, some fresh juices and croissants. All had high quality. 📍 Just two minutes away from Lugano's main square and the lake: location couldn't be better.

We stumbled upon Mauri Concept during a morning walk in Lugano, and what an incredible stroke of luck it was! This spot is a definite gem and the perfect place to start the day. The unique atmosphere immediately drew us in, it has such a great vibe that makes you feel instantly welcome. On top of that, the staff was truly excellent; they were attentive, friendly, and clearly take pride in their service. Most importantly, the food was absolutely great! Everything we ordered was fresh, perfectly prepared, and incredibly satisfying. The service was horrible we had to wait for more than 30 minutes to order our food and we did not even get the menu cards from them but from the table beside us. The avocado itself was fine but way too overpriced for the portion size. Atmosphere with the plants was very nice and beautiful to look at. The potential is definitely there but they need to hire more service people.

I have been going here for many years. I usually have a pretty good experience. I feel that the food and the service have gone downhill on my last few visits though. During my last visit, in particular, the waitstaff was not only unfriendly but the service felt downright rude and disrespectful. From the very moment we entered, everyone at our table agreed that we all felt like unwanted guests.  I think they were very busy as it was quite full, but no one should feel that way when they go out to a restaurant. About the food: The item I ordered tasted bland and I did not even eat half of it (it's an item I've ordered many times before, and it just wasn't the same on my last visit). My husband's pizza was burnt on the bottom but undercooked on top. The sausage on his pizza was still quite raw and he had stomach pain in the car immediately afterwards and a bad belly when he got home. I'm very sad, as I've liked La Serra very much in the past, but my family all agreed that we would not like to ever go back again. We just felt so bad after our visit, it was such a disappointment. This review is not meant to be vindictive, but a candid glimpse into our experience, which hopefully might help the owners know what some of their long time customers have been experiencing.

The menu is super detailed on what’s gluten free or not, which I really, really appreciated. Loved the appetizers. But then the food quality started going downhill. The hot chocolate was warm, almost room temp. I almost sent it back. I read someone else’s review that this was the best gf pizza they’ve had. And I believe them, it was a good bread. No char though but good bread. Its just the cheeses on the 3 cheese pizza were not good. I ended up only eating the crust because the topping was inedible for me. My partner got a regular pizza and liked the crust and prosciutto, but said the tomato sauce was just tomato puree straight out of the can. And absolutely do not get the chicken tikka masala. My MIL got this and i tasted it and it was very unseasoned. And the rice was hard and undercooked. The decor inside is really nice though so you would think the same love would go into the food. But now I rather go to the McDonald’s across the street

We tried the avocado toast with poached egg which was delicious. The pancakes were nothing special. We also tried poached egg with yogurt, but there was too much garlic in. The pita was excellent.

Amazing brunch. Lot of options for gluten and dairy free breakfast and yummy vegan hot chocolate. Very chic ambience industrial mixed with lot of plants and open area as well. We really enjoyed. I highly recommend it specially for people with food allergies and good tastebuds. It’s very rare to find such cafes in Switzerland in my experience in the past. I am grateful i found one here in the outskirts of Lugano Switzerland. 🇨🇭

It was such a lovely place! It is easily reachable by public tranport and the atmosphere and vibes were immaculate. And the staff was super friendly! We enjoyed some eggs, avocado toast and pancakes for a brunch and we were more than happy with everything. Would defintely recommend. 👍

Quite possibly my favorite hotel I’ve ever stayed at. This family run establishment has character and is also modern. Rooms have been renovated within the past year and have AC and awesome waterfall shower heads. My husband called it a 5 star shower experience. The pool is relaxing. The included breakfast was a treat. They had some gluten free options and it was served on china with coffee service. The breakfast area and lounge has nice old school decor. There is a room on the first floor that details the hotels history in immense detail. They had photo books detailing all the hotel renovations over the years and the different generations of family members. I loved it to bits and hope that this stays a family run establishment for years to come. Going to tell everyone I know to come to Lugano and stay here!

My wife and stayed here for 2 nights in mid-October and loved everything about the hotel. The location is perfect, the rooms are luxurious, and the staff was terrific. The breakfast was decent, but nothing special but the honor bar was a great touch for grabbing a bottle of wine or coffee. Loved the set of about 100 stairs just outside the hotel for a nice workout

Coming from America I highly try recommend this hotel. The garden and pool on the 2nd floor was gorgeous. The water was 80° we loved swimming in the evenings when the sun was setting on the mountains. The rooms were spacious as were the bathrooms. The ac was great (I did ask for a fan at the front seat because I like movement of air. The location was great to all the things. We sat out on our balcony’s in the morning and evening and you could be in all the action but not hear any of it once the doors were closed! I was sad to have to leave to our next city. This hotel was spectacular!

Central hotel at the end of the pedestrian street, near Lake Lugano. A little old-fashioned, but elegant and full of character. Relatively spacious room. Very clean. The faucet in the bathtub was not working and when I asked at night, the receptionist came within a few moments and fixed it. Excellent breakfast, the staff is simply great. Friendly, welcoming, very available. We received a free travel card and used it a lot.

Presentation of the food is simple but it was tasty and the waiter was incredibly kind and attentive. The apple pie was nice and warm, not too sweet and just hit the spot. My boyfriend who had the pancakes with the bacon and eggs really enjoyed them. We will be back!

Well. A cafe that prides itself on an American menu. I was pretty disappointed if I'm honest. I've been to the USA many many times and didn't really see a good comparison. I ordered pancakes thinking I was going to get a decent stack of big fluffy American pancakes and warm maple syrup. What I actually got was 4 thin/flat pancakes approximately 70mm diameter which had very little flavour and cold syrup. Barely touched my morning breakfast hunger. In the USA I usually end up leaving food as its to filling. Please if you are going to offer authenticity that you give authentic. Honestly for the actual cost to produce proper American pancakes which is minimal you will just end up losing custom. You havevthe opportunity in Luganu to be different but you have failed. I rarely give negative feedback but this time I was really disappointed . On a separate note. If you are going to give a mug for coffee-fill it up!! On a positive- staff were friendly, serviettes, mugs etc were nice and good quality.

Quite disappointing, especially considering the high price. I ordered a cappuccino for 4 CHF and a croissant “filled with pistachio cream” for 2.50 CHF. Does this look filled to you? I felt scammed, to be honest—there was no cream inside the croissant at all. Additionally, it was super rubbery, as if they had microwaved it to heat it up. Really bad. I hoped the cappuccino would at least make up for it… but it didn’t. It tasted awful—I think they burned the coffee while making it. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all: it’s overpriced, and they can’t even make a decent cappuccino. Embarrassing.

We had to wait quite a while for our food, and our order initially came out wrong. However, the staff was very polite and helpful, which made up for the experience. The food was decent—not quite like what you’d find in the U.S., but then again, we’re not in the U.S., so that didn’t bother us too much. That said, it was quite expensive for what it was. The place looked nice and beautiful, but “pizza” was 13€. It was basically made of bread and they just put cheese with ketchup on top and called it margarita on the menu. This was ridiculous when it came. Also French fries were in the pot that stands near “margarita” on the photo. They cost 8€. I really would understand if pizza and French fries were good, but they were hideous. Their definition of pizza is two big bread slices.

The ginseng is good. The vegetarian toast seems not worth it's price, because the portion is to little and the avocado is unsavory. It seems the stuff is not able to distinguish between "Tramezzini" and" Toast".

Wonderful experience at VANINI. The food was fabulous. We had crepes and waffles for breakfast. I ordered banana crepe with dark chocolate. We also ordered strawberry crepes with Nutella. We stayed with our 3 kids and we all had a fantastic time. We had connecting rooms and everybody was very kind and helpful. Our smallest one (6) and our older daughters had a great time at the pool and with the avaiable amenities. Good restaurant too. We also Likes the fact that there was a bus stop near the hotel so we could go to the centre of Lugano town with publuc means. Cool 50s decor in the whole hotel.

We arrived late and the only room left was apartment C. Very disappointed about this room. Very dated, no ambiance and poor quality of the beds. WiFi connection didn't work neither.
