Villa Principe Leopoldo is a luxurious hotel nestled in a spacious park overlooking Lake Lugano, offering stunning views of the lake and mountains. The hotel boasts top-notch leisure, sports, and wellness amenities along with exquisite dining options. It consists of two buildings - the historic Villa with lake and garden views, and the Residence Park featuring a different design and rooms with garden and pool views.
My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful and serene hotel to celebrate our 10th anniversary. The place is spectacular and so is the staff, who went above and beyond to accommodate us.

Don’t waste your money on this hotel. It certainly left a sour taste for us, especially on our last day checking out. We had to pay extra charges as we had a hotel credit but they failed to mention it was only for the bar. As I told them this was not specified when checking in. The check in staff did not care, quite disgraceful with there attitude. During breakfast I asked if they could make an eggs Benedict, they said sorry we don’t make those until 9am. What kind of luxury hotel is this? We asked if they had an extra phone charger for the stay, they wanted to charge us for that. I said forget it don’t bother. The pool was quite dirty and turned us away from going in also. This place treats you like a number, they simply don’t care. You are better off going somewhere.

Top of the Top 🤩👌 Our Holiday started because of the rain in Zürich 😅we started with 3 days and extended to 7 days.Being so long in the hotel we had several evenings in the restaurant, getting to know more of the employees. The food is Top 👌🤩 The hole team very happy with the new manager Antonino , we like Customers also 🙏. I really highly recommend this restaurant , 1-for the best view ( the Best in Lugano ), 2-Amazing Food Meniu 3- Quality service Best regards and many thanks to: Luca the sommelier, Luca the handsome one 🤣, Massimo and of course Antonino 🤗 Until next summer 🥂🥳

A luxury hotel deserving of its reputation. We spent one night for our 20th wedding anniversary and the entire experience was perfect. For a banjo player and a puppeteer, this was a very special place to celebrate.

Full review below but some important notes and opinions… I have no idea how this hotel has earned 2 Michelin Keys. There are some major red flags from our experience. Our first night, turndown service came in and left trash behind? The curtains were only half closed and some things only slightly tidied up.. our first reaction was actually thinking that our room had been broken into. Super bizarre for a 5*. The second day, we had a long excursion all day and returned at 3:30pm. Our room had still not been cleaned by housekeeping. Again, weird for a 5*. We called to reserve the sauna and requested the room be cleaned while we use it. We then find out the Sauna is at a separate hotel?? We have to leave the hotel to use the sauna - or pay $200 to use the one at VPL. Our room rate advertised inclusion of sauna and NOWHERE did it say you have to leave the property to use it? Again, so bizarre for a 5*! Later this day, a large man knocked on the door and entered the room while my wife was in a towel and I was sitting on the couch. Started asking us questions inside the room without being invited it. Super strange and alarming. He was checking on us, great, but he entered the room by key without us opening the door for him?? We have stayed at luxury properties around the world and at multiple Relais and Chateux as well. By far the worst service level we have received in recent memory. Save your money! 📍 Stayed: June 8-10, 2025 🏨 Room Type: Deluxe One Bedroom Suite Room: 7.5/10 The rooms do the job and have been updated while keeping a level of charm and history. The views of the lake are very nice. Rooms have a musty smell, likely due to age and air vent filters. Service: 3/10 Read above. The only stars we experienced were with the bellman. Property & Amenities: 4/10 Beautiful historical property with views but amenities lack and age is showing in some bad places. Spa with sauna, steam room, jacuzzi costs $200+ to use for an hour and it is in what feels like a dungeon from the early 2000s. Location: 6/10 Beautiful view but NOT walkable and nothing is nearby. Taxis cost $30-50 one way to go anywhere. Value: 1/10 Stay elsewhere. Would I return? Absolutely not.

Had a great time. Great service and although the rooms were dated they were very comfortable, quiet, spacious and mostly functional.

Extraordinary. The restaurant and the views are 5 stars. The sommelier was excellent. My wife, son and I had an extraordinary experience. I highly recommend it.
Graham L — Google review
This hotel guarantees a fantastic stay. As many hotels in the Lugano area, this hotel is also a bit older, but nevertheless the rooms are still today relatively modern and offer a very comfortable level and are very spacious. I need to say that the service has been incredible and exceptional in all terms. We celebrated a birthday here and the hotel team made an unbelievable job to make it a unique experience. Thanks a lot for that!! Besides that, the hotel is very kids friendly. The bar is fantastic with live piano music and also the drinks are well mixed. Unfortunately we didn’t try the Michelin restaurant - what is on our list for next time.

THE VIEW Lugano, an SLH Hotel offers modern suites with stunning views of the lake. This chic lodging features a spa, dining options, and even offers loaner electric cars for guests to explore the area. The hotel's restaurant, The View Lugano, has gained recognition in the culinary world with chef Diego della Schiava earning a Michelin star. This adds to the gourmand corner of Switzerland with 10 Michelin stars and 8 chefs in Lugano alone.
One of the best hotels I've ever stayed at! The View was was truly incredible. The staff was very attentive and showed us around. Their food was great. We enjoyed lunch at the restaurant but honestly we had room service for dinner because our View was so amazing. It was even better than the restaurant, plus we could wear our robes and slippers! We will absolutely be back!!! Also, we loved the tablet controlled blinds, so we could lay in bed with the best view and then with the press of a button close our blinds and get full dark! It was amazing!

The view We spent our Easter holidays in The View. The hotel is very modern, with great facilities. Reception and breakfast staff is very supportive and great. Following an alarm incident that unfortunately happened late at night, they gave us a free aperetif which was a very nice gesture. The room was exactly as described in the booking details, with great views to the lake and very cozy. They also offer free Smart electric car rentals which were great to travel around Paradiso and neighbouring cities. Nevertheless, although our stay was great, I think the following points should be addressed to continue improving guest experience: 1. Their "breakfast included" option feels deceptive: breakfast is small and anything beyond fried/scrambled eggs in its a la carte service (i.e. eggs benedict) is separately charged (25-30€ per dish). This is surprising to see in a 5* hotel. I think the breakfast conditions should've been clearer 2. Their massage services fill up very quickly. During our whole weekend we were only able to book on our last night. However, even though we mentioned we both wanted massages, they only took one booking and didn't give us a solution for it. Good hotel overall but some thing could be improved

I recently had an extraordinary experience at the hotel. The manager, Chadi, provided an exceptional level of service that surpassed my expectations. The staff was incredibly cooperative and attentive, contributing to a serene and pleasant atmosphere. The hotel itself was beautiful, clean, and well-maintained, with outstanding services throughout my stay. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Chadi for his warm welcome and excellent hospitality.

Great hotel. We spent 5 amazing days here and the staff has been nothing short of amazing. Special thank you to Luiza for making our 3 year old feel welcome. The room was clean and with amazing view. The smart cars were a great addition. We used them every day. We look forward to being back! PS. There’s a great park 2 minutes down the hill for walking with amazing views. It’s also great if you have kids - our son loved playing there.
Oleg P — Google review
This hotel has absolutely incredible views of the lake from the top of the hill! The rooms are ultra modern and the staff is very helpful. The hotel's location is a drive from the town of Lugano. It's not walkable to any other restaurants or sight seeing. However, the rentals of the electric smart cars are awesome and convenient to use. There is also free parking if you bring your own vehicle. The Michelin restaurant at the hotel had amazing food for dinner. The included breakfast in the morning was great as well! The spa facilities were top notch. Extremely clean and luxurious. I wish I was able to spend more time there. Would love to stay here again. Thanks to the staff at the View!

Hilton Diamond Member Review – Excellent Stay, Though Slightly Past Its Prime As a Hilton Diamond member traveling during the low season, I was warmly greeted by Giacomo, a terrific hotel ambassador who truly set the bar for hospitality. Unfortunately, most of the other staff did not quite share his level of service—pleasant overall, but not what I’d typically expect from a hotel of this caliber. The courtesy cars and bicycles were a wonderful touch and very convenient; though I imagine availability could be more limited during high season. The food and restaurant service were excellent, and a tall, thin blonde lady (whose name I regret forgetting) stood out for her attentiveness and professionalism—matching Giacomo’s high standard. Our premium room offered a spectacular view, and the housekeeping team was exceptional throughout our stay. The private spa treatment was also a highlight—relaxing and well executed. Overall, this was an excellent experience and a property I would recommend, though it does feel like the hotel’s best days may be behind it. A light refresh could really elevate the guest experience back to a true SLH (Small Luxury Hotels) standard. Highly recommended—just not at a rate of $3,000 USD per night.
Kes — Google review
Very modern -large room with great view. Unusual lighting and a step up in the room might make it challenging for someone who is visually impaired. Exceptional breakfast and spa. Nice touch to have electric bikes and cars available

One of my absolute favourite hotels in Lugano – modern, welcoming, and consistently exceptional. It holds many lovely memories, and each stay feels truly special. The attention to detail, from the sleek, comfortable rooms to the personalised service, is outstanding. The views over the lake are simply breathtaking. I especially love the peaceful pool area and the restaurant near it – a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy great food with a stunning backdrop. A wonderful blend of luxury, comfort, and serenit

Title: A Wonderful Stay – Exceeded All Expectations! We recently stayed at this hotel and had an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The check-in process was smooth and efficient, and we were immediately impressed by the cleanliness and style of the property. Our room was spotless, spacious, and very comfortable. The bed was perfect for a good night’s sleep, and we loved the modern amenities provided. Housekeeping did an excellent job each day, and we really appreciated the little touches that made our stay special. Especially thank you Miriam and Alfredo for assisting us. This awesome concierge Richardo for giving us well detailed information and for making our last minute booking possible. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and welcoming place to stay. Thank you to the entire team for making our trip so enjoyable!

This is an outstanding luxury property with some of the most incredible views over Lake Lugano you'll find anywhere. The room was beautifully appointed with elegant furnishings and that bed was absolute perfection. The whole property has this timeless, sophisticated feel that manages to be luxurious without feeling pretentious. What really set this place apart was the staff, particularly our concierge who was always on point with recommendations and seemed to anticipate what we needed before we even knew what we wanted. The breakfast was excellent with high-quality options and beautiful presentation. Every detail felt carefully considered, from the room amenities to the public spaces. The view from our room was breathtaking and made even simple moments like morning coffee feel special. This is how luxury hospitality should be done - attentive service, beautiful setting, and genuine comfort. Would give 6 stars if that was an option, and we'd definitely return.

Great hotel , very quick walk to Lugano central area . Nice views of the lake. Well kept rooms. Very good breakfast. Nice gym, spa. Nice pool- half indoor half outdoor sort of. Great place to relax. There is a small part of the lake that you can swim in a two min walk away, so that’s good. And good restaurant. All employees were nice. Calm vibe and not busy at all.

Our stay at Splendid Hotel Lugano was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were beyond impressed by the exceptional level of service and care provided by the entire team. The hotel’s location couldn’t be more ideal—nestled by the lake and within easy walking distance to the heart of Lugano, it offered both tranquility and convenience. What truly set this experience apart were the personal touches that made us feel not just welcome, but genuinely valued as guests. Every detail, from the beautifully appointed room to the thoughtful gestures throughout our stay, reflected a level of hospitality that is rare to find. A heartfelt thank you goes to Ilaria and Alfredo, who went above and beyond to make our stay extra special. Their warmth, attentiveness, and professionalism left a lasting impression and made us feel right at home. Splendid Hotel Lugano lives up to its name in every way. We look forward to returning and highly recommend it to anyone visiting this beautiful region of Switzerland.

These days anyone with enough money can start a quality hotel and even construct a beautiful hotel, but if you’re looking for a place that has stood the test of time this hotel is for you. Ultimately, the people and service is what made our stay incredible. They contacted me a few days before the trip and I let them know it was our honeymoon. Of course, they asked if there was anything they could do to help us celebrate and I asked for a card in the room for my wife. They didn’t stop at simply a card, but decided to provide us a wonderful welcome gift. Ilaria in particular was so accommodating and kind. The service is what you would expect from a 5-star hotel. Will be staying again!
Jake S — Google review
Absolutely loved our stay here! Everyone was so friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere was just perfect. The room was beautifully designed, and very spacious. The staff provided outstanding service and made sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely come back!

My husband Mr Terkesli and I stayed at this hotel for one night. Although we had a slightly unpleasant start, thanks to the hotel front office manager, Luigi Spiniello, it turned into a wonderful vacation. The Hotel was very clean and the view was perfect. The risotto I had at the restaurant was the best I've ever had. I would definitely like to come back. Thank you very much.
Satı Ç — Google review
This is truly the best hotel I have ever stayed anywhere. The location is perfect, the rooms were palatial, and the food was divine. The staff could not do enough to make sure you had an extraordinary trip - Especially Ilaria - What a gem of a human! I spent a lot of time enjoying drinks by the pool and felt so relaxed and at peace. The boat dock is right across the street and there are numerous bus stations that make it easy to get around. Can't wait to come back soon!!

4Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola, an SLH Hotel

Hotel
Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola, an SLH Hotel, is a luxurious 5-star resort located on the picturesque shores of Lake Lugano. This elegant hotel offers a range of amenities including two bars, three restaurants serving Mediterranean cuisine and fine wines, an indoor pool, a tennis court, and a spa with saunas. The hotel's rooms and suites are individually decorated and offer stunning views of the park or lake from their balconies or terraces.
The location, the view, the garden, and the exterior of the hotel are incredibly beautiful. Spending a summer evening in front of the hotel, accompanied by soft piano music and the stunning scenery, was truly unforgettable. The drinks were excellent, and another big plus was the late-night dining option, we ordered carbonara at 11 p.m., and it was served without any issue and the food was outstanding. --------- However, the room and parts of the interior felt outdated. We stayed in a junior suite on the top floor, and while the view was again breathtaking, the room itself was not to our taste. The carpet and furniture were very old and did not reflect the standard of a five-star hotel. The service was fine but not exceptional, and the breakfast, while not bad, was also not particularly impressiv. --------- We will likely stay at the hotel again on our next weekend in Lugano, but only if refurbished rooms are available and we can be sure to book one of them. Breakfast, however, I would probably skip.
Noah B — Google review
We had a wonderful stay at Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola. The service was excellent – professional and attentive at every step. The rooms were spotless, beautifully decorated, and full of charm, giving the hotel a true soul. The food was delicious, with plenty of variety and great quality. On top of that, the views from the property are absolutely breathtaking. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable experience in Lugano.

Gorgeous historic hotel. Everything you hope and dream an escape to a Swiss lake-side retreat to be. Beautiful views, well-maintained grounds, outstanding service. Our room was well-appointed and comfortable. Breakfast was generous and delicious. Every member of the staff made us feel welcome, valued, and pampered.

Grand Hotel Villa has luxury written in every aspect!! Right from the moment you enter the hotel to the vibes in the room, you will feel the warmth and positive vibes. Not to forget the amazing staff, Mario at the reception ensured that all our queries were answered. He guided us so well about the nearby sights that we had an amazing time. They also have a private beach by the lake which makes it super comfortable. It’s a must visit if you are going with family or as a couple!!
Chirag M — Google review
The rooms are nice but the hotel itself is dated. I was really confused by the spa... but the garden is nice and theres a private area to swim by the lake which is nice, but when we went there was a sign advising us not to swim in it. The hotel has potential but I wouldnt recommend the hotel tbh

We discovered Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola by chance. We stopped by for some drinks and snacks, but were absolutely enchanted. We were warmly welcomed at the entrance, the drinks were excellent, and the stunning lake and lush greenery made it a peaceful, elegant, and unforgettable experience. Hotel City Lugano is a modern and stylish non-smoking hotel located near the Lugano Exhibition Centre and the lake. The rooms are air-conditioned, soundproofed, and equipped with modern amenities such as LED TVs, universal sockets, and minibars with free non-alcoholic drinks. Guests can enjoy free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and have access to underground parking for a fee.
Excellent breakfast buffet! Full Swiss style breakfast! Short walking distance to center and to the university. Rooms are efficiently arranged. Friendly and prompt service. The hotel gives you a bus pass for the duration of your stay. Very useful. Also umbrellas, which we had to use. No restaurant on site but lots of places in the area and also delivery services available.

Newly built, well-arranged hotel with rich breakfast. The rooms are very, very clean, the bathroom great built and spacious. The location is a bit secluded but quiet. The reception is warm and helpful. The breakfast is delicious with a wide variety of food and drinks. The main restaurant and shopping area of the town is about 1.5 km away. About the same distance to the main train station of Lugano but uphill. Who wants to explore should consider using public transportation or uber cab to get to the city's lievly areas.
M. R — Google review
We booked this hotel based on reviews praising the air conditioning. Unfortunately, that wasn’t our experience. During our one-night stay, the AC couldn’t cool the room below 23°C, making it hard to sleep. When we brought it up, the staff simply shrugged and offered a fan, which made little difference. Disappointing stay—would not recommend.
Lex — Google review
Nice modern hotel but I really hate that you can't make your own coffee and they have to make it for you. Did not enjoy that at all. Also the name of the hotel is confusing because online it says hotel city Lugano but when you get to the hotel it says hotel city Giglio or something. Very confusing.
Nikki S — Google review
Beware, this hotel offers rooms with transparent (glass) bathrooms - you can see the person sitting on the toilet and you can hear them too. This hotel is therefore only suited for couples or the like. We liked the modern, clean and spacious rooms. The staff was very friendly too. Amenities such as a coffee maschine and glasses/cups and spoons for drinking water and coffee, however, were sorely missed. The view is nothing spectacular (looking down on a parking lot or at the private flats across) but the rooms are quiet. Considering all of this, the price per night (on average 262 euros per night) was very high, which is why we would recommend you to carefully weigh the pro's and con's of choosing this hotel.

Wonderful hotel with a good location in the heart of city! Walkable to the lake and park! Good rooms, Great breakfast !

This is a really nice place to stay. The reason I am writing this review is because of a hard working and super friendly staff in the breakfast restaurant, her name is Katia. I am also working in customer service field and I learnt a lot from her. She work with her whole heart and with a smile always on her face. She greets each and every guest coming, even though she is busy preparing coffee for others. She also care a lot for guests, usually convey if her guest are fine and comfortable. Hotel City Lugano is lucky to have a great staff like Katia.

Loved our stay! We travelled with a dog and were delighted to see how the team has prepared for our arrival and made something special to make us smile. A truly tailored service and lovely attention to detail. Perfectly clean, everyone has been warm and helpful. The interior of the rooms and especially the shower with the curtain is super fun and original.

I am currently a guest in this hotel. I see the hotel in terms of view is excellent and their treatment is very good, but there is a big problem, which is the cleanliness of the rooms in terms of the bed and the decor. Despite the large number of guests in this hotel, they do not replace the dirty sheets. There is a second point, there is no iron, which forces you to iron in the hotel, which is an exaggerated amount. Only ironing will cost you from 18 Swiss francs and above for each piece, and there is also a tax on all pieces in the amount of 50 Swiss francs.

Don’t be misled by the hotel’s online photos of the lakefront. The main building actually sits across a busy road, separated from the lake. Only 4 rooms are directly on the lake, so if you pay extra for a “lake view,” expect traffic noise and a parking lot in your line of sight. Ironically, the hotel’s parking lot has one of the best views, directly overlooking the lake. Unfortunately, there is no inviting indoor common area with a lake view for guests to enjoy. The most beautiful restaurant, which could easily serve that role, is closed most of the day—an opportunity the hotel really should rethink. This property does not live up to 5-star standards. The interiors are outdated, in need of renovation, and the carpet in my room was badly stained, which felt unacceptable at this level. The gardens and the main restaurant—heavily showcased on the website—are indeed lovely. However, guests cannot order food or snacks while sitting by the lake (apparently due to a local regulation). The restaurant with the best views serves only dinner, not breakfast. Breakfast is served on the street level with no view. During the day, snacks are limited to the bar across the road, which is dark and dated. This fell far short of the relaxing holiday atmosphere I expected at lakeside. Wellness facilities were also disappointing: the sauna was out of order, the indoor pool is tiny and hidden away in the basement, and the outdoor pool was uncomfortably cold. The one pleasant surprise was the complimentary shuttle to and from Morcote, a beautiful village where parking is very limited. Breakfast was mediocre—more in line with a 4-star property. Fresh-squeezed orange juice and Parma ham were available, but only upon request. At this price point, those should be standard offerings for all guests. Overall, given the high rates and the actual experience, this hotel does not deliver on its 5-star promise, and I cannot recommend it.

Stayed in May this year. It was perhaps very luxury a few years ago, but it needs a lot of work. Breakfast isn’t great, the restaurant brought out the wrong meal for my fiance - mistakes happen. But rather than offer to keep my food warm until hers was ready I was told I need to eat mine otherwise I will need to eat my dinner cold. Service generally pretty poor, not made to feel particularly welcome. Then, there was no air con in the room despite being advertised on booking.com as having air con. First night in the hotel I barely slept, 29 degrees C outside, similar inside. After a night of very little sleep I spoke to reception in the morning . I advised them that the air con did not work and that I needed air con in our room as it was very very hot. I was told the air con could not be switched on without consent from the neighbours. (Meanwhile there was aircon in reception), but because our complaint was not the first that weekend they would “look into it” We were offered a very loud mobile aircon unit for our second night as a solution. So the room was somewhat cooler, but it was like sleeping near to a Boeing 747. On exiting the hotel in expressed my disappointment with my stay, I was not prompted to ask how my stay was. I advised the property that despite having stayed in numerous 5 star hotels at a similar price point in Europe, I had been left very disappointed by this establishment. We were offered a €50 discount on a €1100 stay and that there was no possibility of a further discount, unless we agreed to come back and stay again. Safe to say I will never return to this hotel. Poor service, overpriced, really disappointing

Spent 4 nights at the Swiss Diamond Hotel. It was a fantastic experience. Giorgia & Davide ( two waiters ) made our stay very comfortable and went out of there way every time we dined in the bar. The hotel, location and view is breathtaking. Would happily recommend to anyone.

We went for the day-spa pass and were a bit disappointed. While the website gives an impression that this could be a luxury spa, the infrastructure is dated and not well-taken care of (e.g., jacuzzi malfunctioning, dirty external pool, main sauna out of service, Turkish bath without anything). The internal pool area was very loud (there is no separate scheduled time for families with kids) and it is rather average. The showing/locker space is a bit confusing and not really convenient for external guests. The main highlight of the experience is the external sunbathing area, which is nice (beautiful lake view) but it is not very encouraging for swimming (i.e., complicated way to go in, no dedicated platform to stay in the lake). All in all, it’s not worth it.

My family and I had a truly unpleasant experience at this hotel, which failed to meet even the most basic standards of service. We were lost just 15 minutes away from the property and requested assistance via their shuttle or a taxi—services they claim to offer to all guests. Despite informing them that we had a 30-month-old child with us, it took over two hours and six phone calls before they finally sent a taxi. This delay caused unnecessary stress and discomfort for our family. The staff were unhelpful and poorly informed. They lacked basic knowledge of the city and showed little interest in assisting guests. We even spoke with the hotel owner, who introduced him self His attitude was equally disrespectful.and he was very rude and refused to talk about the situation. The receptionist openly stated she didn’t care about what happened and continued to blame the taxi company, refusing to take any responsibility. Inside the room, the amenities were shockingly minimal for a 5-star property. Only two basic Nescafé sachets were provided—no tea bags. If you enjoy a hot drink, you’re better off bringing your own. Additionally, the hotel is isolated, with no nearby supermarkets or restaurants, except for their own, which were underwhelming.

TL;DR: this is NOT a 5 star hotel. We are guests in this hotel as part of our honeymoon and wanted to treat ourselves to 4 days of luxury at 500€ per night. The hotel is severely disappointing: - on our first evening, we went to the restaurant (which they claim is "Michelin recommended") and because we were not wearing obvious big brands, we were treated as second-class citizens. Despite us being hotel guests, they not only ignored us and our requests (such as wanting to receive a table for the following night with a view), but at some point even accused us of wanting to leave without paying, and proceeded to lecture us repeatedly that "well you have to wait for the check and sign it even though we know your room number, in case we add bottles of champagne to your bill against your wishes". This was after waiting for almost 20 minutes for the maitre. So does this mean that in this "5 star hotel", the staff is routinely stealing or cheating? - the rooms have strong lights shining directly into the windows, and no way to close the curtains. - we got ONE bottle of water on the first day, and the water was never refilled again. For 500€ a night, you'd think that at least some water in the room would be included. - on day 2, when we went to the lake side sun beds and ordered two Pina coladas, they IMMEDIATELY brought the bill even though we did not even have a chance to finish ordering everything we wanted, just to make sure that they got their payment. Again, we are guests of the hotel. What kind of treatment is that? - the breakfast staff on day 3 was rude, and the coffee we ordered at the beginning only arrived by the time we had finished our breakfast meal. All in all, an extremely disappointing stay, far overpriced, and not deserving of any stars, let alone 5. This is NOT a luxury resort, this is a rip-off, an old building, atrocious service (the worst we've had on our honeymoon so far), and overall NOT recommended. Our advise: STAY AWAY! Book somewhere else, and use your money in a better way.

Hotel Admiral in Lugano is a contemporary 4-star property situated in the Paradiso neighborhood, just a short distance from Lugano city center. The hotel offers a range of amenities including a restaurant, bar, gym, indoor heated pool and seasonal rooftop pool. Guests can enjoy free access to the indoor pool and have the option to relax at the outdoor swimming pool during summer. The hotel's location allows for easy access to Lake Lugano and the San Salvatore funicular station.
Another family and I just spent a long weekend at the Hotel Admiral as it was a bank holiday last Thursday and we wanted to enjoy the sun so took the long drive from Zurich. We have stayed at the hotel before and each time we come back, I see that they are continuously improving the place with fresh refurbishment and additional modern touches. Overall we had a great time and much of that was due to the hotel, their staff and the services they provided to us. They really went out of their way to make our stay memorable. We were 2 families, with 2 kids (6 and 7 years) and a new baby under 1 year old. They provided us a connecting room which was great for the kids to enjoy and much easier for us as we had our private space but was still together. The pool was nice, not too big but was fun for the kids, and it was nice to have drinks to round off the day before heading to dinner. On the check out day, they were also very flexible with us allowing us to enjoy Lugano a bit more before we headed back to Zurich. Thank you Hotel Admiral Lugano - see you next time! :-)

We booked a single room but it turned out that our room had a connecting door within the room and you could literally hear the guests next door. There was no privacy. It was really uncomfortable to sleep because these people were also very loud until late at night and in my opinion that simply isn't a single room. In my opinion that is cheeky and not an acceptance of privacy. Luckily we were only there for one night because otherwise we would have thrown our money out the window. The bathroom was also very dated. It wasn't clean. There was hair from the previous guests. The shower curtain was dirty and some things were broken. There were lots of small splashes on the wardrobe door. I can't understand how they couldn't just clean it. It was spread over the whole area and was clearly visible. The outside pool was only deep up to the basin - you couldn't really see that in the photos. The view is surrounded by high-rise buildings so it's not exactly pleasant and there weren't enough sun loungers either. The only positive thing was the breakfast buffet and the comfortable bed.

Very kind and helpful staff. Very clean property. The location is central and very convenient. We enjoyed the roof top sun beds as well as the very large indoor pool for swimming laps. Onsite parking is very convenient, and be sure to reserve in advance. Keep in mind the room size if you are traveling with a lot of luggage.

My boyfriend and I stayed for 1 night at the Admiral Hotel in Lugano. The staff was welcoming, friendly and very helpful with local tips on where to go eat. The location is not central, but in a very nice quiet neighborhood with lots of interesting restaurants. The hotel pool was lovely and perfect to spend an afternoon to relax. The room were clean, beds were comfortable. Breakfast was absolutely amazing, so much choice and very good quality.

The room was a bit strange (the wc was visible from the room through a glass wall, it could be covered but still partially visible), but other than that, the hotel was perfect. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. The breakfast was fantastic, it even included pizza!!! It's located very close to the train station and next to San Salvatore funicolare. It is about 20 min by foot along beautiful lake to Lugano center. The "Dine Around" offer is absolutely great and extremely cost-effective!

We had a fantastic stay at Hotel de la Paix in Lugano. I requested a quiet room at the end of a corridor and on a high floor due to a brain injury that makes me sensitive to noise. The staff took my request seriously and ensured everything was just right—our room was peaceful, comfortable, and ideal for a restful stay. The location is perfect, with easy access to both the train and bus networks, making it simple to get around Lugano and the surrounding area. We booked bed and breakfast, and the whole experience was exemplary. The breakfast was fresh and varied, the staff were welcoming and professional, and every detail was taken care of. Highly recommended for anyone looking for comfort, convenience, and outstanding service in Lugano.

We had a very pleasant stay. Great location - few blocks to Paradiso, ferry and beaches; also store and restaurants are around. Free outside parking, inside parking is 20Chf/day (which is also a good price for this location). Free electric car charger. Nice size swimming pool. Decent breakfast (wish they don’t charge extra for omelettes). Rooms & hotel itself is a bit old and you can see some signs of needed renovations but hotel is a historic building with its own charm. Good value for this price overall.

Hotel is well cared for older hotel. Very busy area of town. The room are good size. Clean. The restaurant is confusing. Main restaurant is only open for breakfast. Bar is on the side of main restaurant. Expensive drinks with live music. But there is another restaurant on the opposite side.

What a great discovery: couldn't have picked a better hotel... perfect mix of tastful and elegant yet not too posh (very spacious classy rooms incl balconies with a view; nice hotel bar), great location and facilities (decent pool and on-site parking). Antonella (Guest Relations) makes you feel like a VIP from the second you arrive (in fact, even before - having proactively checked in re when we arrive, what we need, etc). All other staff has been friendly, too. Can't recommend enough - will be our go-to hotel in Lugano!

Amazing..this place absolutely delivered what promised amd exceeded the expectations. The location is totally superb: walking distance from the station and city center with a breathtaking view. The level of service outstanding, super kind and friendly staff, made me feel like at home. The breakfast is served by the terrace and offers a spectacular view. Good choice of food ( Prosecco too which is not always so common) . My espresso was 10/10 Maybe the decor and structure itself is a bit outdated ( its a 90s hotel) but the whole experience is really amazing. I already booked my next stay in the suite.

My Negative Experience at Villa Sassa Hotel I recently stayed at Villa Sassa Hotel in their Grand Suite room. Expecting a luxurious experience, I specifically informed the hotel by phone that I would be traveling with a young child and requested the room to be prepared accordingly. However, upon entering the room, I was shocked to find that the room was not prepared at all for a child. There were two huge glass tables that posed a serious safety hazard and made the room very uncomfortable. The furniture was also very old and outdated, definitely not matching the expectations for a "Grand Suite." The photos attached do not fully reflect the condition of the room. At around 2:30 AM, the air conditioning in the room broke down, causing great discomfort. The air conditioners, especially the one in the living room, were very noisy and clearly old. For people sensitive to noise, these units are absolutely not suitable. had to go down to the reception twice during the night. Thankfully, one young staff member at the reception was very helpful and did his best to assist me. However, the next morning, another reception employee spoke to me in a rude and threatening manner, saying things like, "If you speak properly, we can continue this communication." Such behavior is unacceptable in customer service. Furthermore, the restaurant staff were mostly rude and arrogant. When we asked about items not on the menu, we were told, "Please do not ask about items that are not available." The poor English skills of the waiters made it difficult to communicate and place orders. Additionally, the hotel did not offer any healthy breakfast options, which was disappointing. Due to these issues, I requested a 30% refund. However, the staff informed me that the manager is on vacation and they cannot process refunds at this time. They only offered a discount on a massage service, which I did not accept. Attached are photos showing the large glass tables in the room, which clearly demonstrate why this room was not suitable for a child. I expect a written response and proper resolution from Villa Sassa management. I am sharing my experience so that others do not go through the same problems. I strongly advise anyone considering staying at Villa Sassa Hotel to be cautious.

First, I truly appreciate the room upgrade we received (from a premium suite to a grande suite). The staff are very kind and supportive. We in fact appreciated the shuttle service from and to Lugano Central Station. The hotel is greatly located, accessible by public transport, and some suits offer great views to Lugano lake and the city. Our villa was air conditioned which is both rare and a great feature. The pools looked cleaned, and the infinity pool offered amazing views towards the lake. However, the inside pool was occupied by the aqua fitness courses and we could not enjoy that. In addition, the breakfast was modest, though the scrambled egg was particularly good. They also offer a very nice coffee. About the suit: I expected our suit to be more charming, however it mostly looked empty and there were no specific decorations like the official photos. So, the vibe was a bit disappointing and the room equipment was rather old. Overall, the view and staff made it worth the money we paid.
Anahita M — Google review
Comfortable, quiet, great views from rooms and outside restaurant terrace, very good breakfast, helpful and friendly staff. Unusual and novel layout, the room I had was much bigger than expected, comfortable bed. Overall, well maintained and clean, also good value. Check room view on booking as other side of hotel misses out on the awesome mountain and lake views.

The hotel and facilities were really beautiful, and the staff were super friendly. I had booked a premium suite, and they upgraded me to the top floor. The apartment was huge, with three bathrooms and two bedrooms. The view was absolutely amazing. The amenities at the hotel make you just want to stay in all day without even going out.
Ahmed M — Google review
Service in the hotel- top of the top. Super kind, helpful. Rooms are specious (at least mine was). Great location with the view over the lake. Also not far from the train station- max.10 minutes walking distance. The only thing I would pay more attention is the cleaning service - dusty hanging from lamps etc.- not a really nice view ;) Also- internet connection working perfectly.
Patrycja — Google review
I did not enjoy my stay at Villa Sassa. The hotel is very old and dated, with worn-out furniture and a confusing layout that feels like a maze. The elevator didn’t even work, and the whole place is in desperate need of renovation. We tried dining at the restaurant on the property, and the food was terrible. I ordered the Wagyu burger, but the meat smelled strange and was inedible. We also tried the fried mixed fish, which was equally bad—we ended up leaving our food. The amenities were also disappointing. There isn’t even an iron in the rooms—there’s only one for the entire property, located in the laundry room. The staff were not helpful either, and one older gentleman in particular was quite rude. The only positive thing about this hotel is the view, but unfortunately, everything else fell short. I would not recommend staying here.

Really? Most of the five star reviews of this hotel have no comments! Can someone say fake? We're here now and the place is OLD, I mean OLD. It's clean but looks like you're in a 1960s movie and not in a good way. The picture is from the nightstand. Stay somewhere else for sure.

I stayed here this past week with a group for work. Novotel was so beautiful, clean, and the staff were so so kind. A practical and convenient hotel for short stays. Rooms are clean and well maintained, and the front desk service is friendly. Don’t expect luxury extras this is a functional place that focuses on the basics. Breakfast is average to below average and could be improved. Overall, a good choice if you just need a clean and comfortable place to stay.

Stayed in the hotel in June for 4 nights. The property looks nice and modern and very well maintained. The rooms are clean and well kept, though the family room given to us was a little short on space for a family of 4. Location is great, 10 minutes walk from the train station. The breakfast spread was good and had a variety of options for vegetarians too, which to us was a big positive. The only negative was that we found the staff rude and inhospitable. I mean who would refuse a glass of water to an in-house guest and that too in the rudest possible manner. The only one who stood out for us was Molly at the breakfast buffet who went out of her way to make us comfortable.

Hotel is close to the lake but some (beautiful) walking away from Lugano ‚downtown‘. Hotel has a beautiful pool but it only had sun between 12 and 14.30 (early September) and that wasn’t even for the whole pool. Is build between three building blocks. Free large towels are provided by the pool, which is great. If you want to swim by the lake, there is a great Lido nearby. Hotel has a decent small but functional gym, which needs a separate access card (that could have been told/provided during check-in). Room was quiet with good cleaning, bed comfortable but carpet and curtains not so pretty. Coffee machine in the room wasn’t working the whole stay despite us informing the reception twice. Big plus for free drinking water (also sparkling) on every floor. Great breakfast buffet with regular refills. Breakfast service was a bit grumpy, dinner/bar service really friendly.

More than a dozen stays at Novotel Lugano, but more than 3 years after my last visit, my recent stay was the worst. Rooms are spacious and clean. Worst is mattress, it is now impossible to sleep without back pain. Used to be just fine. Breakfast used to be great, it is now subpar, even by Novotel standards. Orange juice is a shame (same with grapefruit) compared to the juices selection that used to be on offer. Hot drinks used to be made to order, now you have two extremely noisy coffee makers… Pastries selection is now maybe 20% of what it used to be. Too bad. Plus side, is the restaurant that is much better than it used to be, both for lunch and dinner. Cost cutting pushed too far. Won’t come back.
J T — Google review
We have been at Novotel over summer for a few days with the family. The location is great, close to the lake and city centre. The staff at reception was very nice and also cleaning stuff. Our kids loved the pool. When it comes to the rooms they’re all very small, around 20m2, small windows which you can’t really open, and no terraces at all. That was for us the biggest minus. For breakfast in a 4-star hotel you would expect to get fresh omelette, but unfortunately you only can order this from menu and have to pay for it. Therefore we think this is a good business hotel, but for leisure probably not.

I didn’t feel well due to the heat and needed a bathroom; I happened to be next to the Novotel-Ibis so I entered and kindly asked reception where is the lobby bathroom, to which I was answered that I could not use it and there is a public toilet in a street nearby. I needed a bathroom not a toilet and I was not feeling well due to the heat so you sent me outside … thank you for the hospitality, courtesy and friendliness. Not.

We had a wonderful stay - very nice, helpful, polite staff at reception and restaurant, sparkling clean, comfortable studio, extraordinary breakfast in a high quality location. They provide free buss e-tickets. The only minus in my opinion was the temperature of the pool water- to cold. Lugano is a special destination. Thank you!

This is one of my favorite hotels. The breakfast and dinner were both delicious, and the evening bar had a great atmosphere. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the room was lovely and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I truly enjoyed my stay and would love to come back again.

Breakfast staff really friendly but otherwise feel that the hotel itself and the experience did not live up to the price..the room was okay but no lake view and an odd smell on the balcony (potentially coming from the kitchen) and no hot water on our last day..with no apology from the staff at check out. We didn’t have a car so going in and out of Lugano and the hotel there was always a big climb (but a short cut through the woods is possible)

This hotel is beyond a 4 star hotel. It is really feels like a luxury 5 star stay. Rooms are very spacious with the most high tech features you can feel the luxury in every inches from coffee machine to the toiletry .It has a very nice balcony with a view .The property also was so peaceful with lots of greenery .The breakfast was amazing with a view. They have indoor pool as well. Just please keep in mind that it is a up hill area just less than 8 minutes drive to the Downton

We took a room because it has a pool and wellness included in the price. But the the pool was closed, the saunas weren’t working and the bar was reserved, it wasted our last day of vacation and we weren’t warned in advance. Even though we got an upgrade the room looked boring and we even found some garbage under our mattress. This hotel was a let down, we got half of what we paid for without any real compensation.

I didn't stay, im writing frustrated about their buggy website showing only 3 abstract photos of a "suite" and asking for over +2000chf for a week. Just upper user experience has put me off working with you.

The staff member who was at the buffet had a very rude attitude. I arrived at the buffet a bit late while my family was already inside having breakfast. I went to serve myself some food, and at exactly 10:42 AM, the staff member approached me angrily and told me not to take any food. I explained that my family was sitting at that table and pointed them out to him, but he still refused. I then asked, genuinely and politely, “So what should I do now?” and he responded with a harsh tone, saying: “Next time, come earlier than this.” I swear it hadn’t even reached 10:45 yet. What made it worse was that there was another girl on the other side serving herself food at the exact same moment, and he said nothing to her. It felt unfair and disrespectful. Also, he was the only staff member who behaved this way — the rest of the team was very polite and welcoming.

Welcome to Gabbani Hotel, a stylish boutique hotel located in the heart of Lugano at Piazza Cioccaro. This former medieval convent has been transformed into an elegant hotel with 17 uniquely designed rooms. The central location allows easy access to Civico Park and Lake Lugano, as well as the city's main train station via a nearby cable car. Guests can enjoy stylish rooms with free WiFi and views of the picturesque courtyard.
Great location to walk through Lugano and enjoy the local town. The room is spacious and the breakfast rich with fresh fruit and meat. As I was traveling for work I missed in the room a place to sit and work on a desk. I can recommend the hotel if you don’t want to work in the room.

Location, design and food offering are very good. Last year we stayed in a standard room, this year in the top level duplex room. Unfortunately the rooms are too hot and you can’t control the temperature unless you open the windows. Then you get not only the noise from within the restaurants but also from outside. The mattresses are way too stiff, no proper toppers. No good sleep possible. The worst however it the reaction of the reception. They don’t want to understand that there is room for improvement and just let you go. This place might be a great restaurant, but don’t go there if you wanna sleep properly. They don’t value the guest and feedback. Just excuses and not even trying to fix the situation.

Amazing hotel in Lugano. First time in Lugano and this hotel. We were lucky enough to get upgraded to a junior suite which was lovely since we were celebrating a recent engagement. The room was modern, spacious and clean. Nice view of the square in front of the hotel. We did not experience any noise during our stay and we loved the proximity to everything. Steps to the tram that takes you up to the train station and the ticket is included in your stay which is lovely. The breakfast also had a nice selection. They have a restaurant on the main level - we didn’t try it this time but the menu did look appetizing. The staff were all very friendly and helpful during our stay. Can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend!

Located down town Lugano, this old building has been completely renovated. The room was nice with a large bathroom. Breakfast is high quality with home made brioche. Don't miss the opportunity to eat there. Food is mostly local and was great as well. For wine amateur there is a large offering available

Had the most fabulous stay September 5-9, 2019 to attend a wedding. Check in was so very easy. Room was immaculate. Food at the hotel was wonderful (breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some food options were always available in between meal times. Gabbani provided the food for the wedding reception. Totally amazing. Personnel were so very helpful, friendly and courteous. Would definitely stay there again.

Overall we enjoyed our stay here, we booked the deluxe junior suite. For the pros: - Room was very clean and the air conditioning worked very well - The tub and towels conveniently placed nearby were also a nice touch - Very central location, you literally can walk anywhere in the city center easily - Decent options of local eggs, coffee/tea/juice, pastries for breakfast For the cons: - Room was a bit small for what is advertised as a "deluxe" junior suite, but understandable since it is in the center - Also the view was terrible and blocked by other roofs..disappointing since we booked this standard of room for windows/views - Inconsistent service standards: some days we were offered the egg menu with our breakfast and other days we had to ask. It was never fully explained what is offered for the included breakfast...is there yogurt or fruit? - Another point on inconsistent services - other reviewers have noted a mini-bar w soda provided. This was not the case for us though we noticed there were sodas in the housekeeping cabinets for restocking but our mini-bar only had water. Overall, it's a great spot to stay to explore Lugano and has all the basics you need but some inconsistencies in service.

The hotel is charming, clean, tastefully decorated. It is centrally located close to the glass trolley train up the the hill to train station/metro station. It is two doors down from Dante Hotel. The hotel is above bakery, salami and restuarant. It is very convient to lake and metro bus and eateries. The room we had was a family room with extra bed. It was a bigger room so an extra bed was able to be added. As a small family, we were happy staying two nights. It does get a little bit noisy from the restaurant down stairs but windows and doors are sound proof and noise was softly muffled. The reception desk staff are very friendly and helpful. It was a very smooth transaction booking, checking in, staying and checking out. I would recommend and I would come back again.

Really cool location! It has a few very good Restaurants and bars around the hotel. We found some earplugs in the wardrobe. and in the night we really found out why they are standard equipment in the apartments... it was not very quiet but also not very loud, but you could defitly hear some other peoples having fun in theyre beds... the cool thing is the chinese restaurant on top of the roof and the integrated coctailbar. unfortunately we saw the billiard table in the basement on our last day... The hotelroom was really nice! super clean floor, no dirty bed or bathroom. and it had a really modern interior. The airconditioner was a bit complicated, we didnt new how to turn it off. No sign of manual anywhere...

Entry and reception area dark, old fashioned and carpets looking worn out in passage areas. Rooms looked clean with traditional vintage looking style. After approximately 1 hour in the room, we noticed up 7 or 8 bugs flying around, then more hanging all over the curtains. Windows were shut so we searched for other areas. We found a large nest of stink bugs who seemed to be hibernating all along the underside of the curtains pelmet the grass hopper jumping from lampshade. We went to the Front desk to call for help, but it was closed and all lights turned off., We found phone at reception and contacted the manager. We were moved to another room. This room also had a large nest of stink bugs all along the inside of the pelmet of curtain. Owner told us its nature and it may be the same in another room so she could not do more as this was nature. Tired and stressed we stayed. We had a short night as we had to move some necessities from the other room during the night. Not a full or very good night sleep. Breakfast and dinner were reasonably good but quite expensive compared to the quantity and quality. They could not guarantee na room without more nests of bugs, so charged us full price as we checked out to find another hotel at short notice. Our relaxing massage was also cancelled, and therefore a disappointing stay which we were fully charged for the pleasure. Never ever again. The pictures do not give true reflection of the hotel. Not quite 4 star standards as advertised.

A very disappointing booking experience. Had asked to book a room on behalf of my family and was refused because they wanted the invoice on the company name to be able to pay with the company credit card. The real reason? Because they come from Romania, which is a foreign country. They said they might accept if we pay in advance, because the owner found it fishy that people from there might come to Switzerland for holidays, or something… Finally, they canceled our reservation because only Swiss people come to this hotel. Such an awful attitude, I’ve never experienced this in my 10 years as an expat and 5 years since I’m in Switzerland. Sad!

The hotel features Mediterranean cuisine at the Rialto restaurant and La Terrazza, as well as rustic-style dining at La Fornace.
Great hotel in a good old style . Beautiful decorative touches , friendly staff , pool with great views , place to jump into the lake from . Good food , great location walking 10 minutes to the centre , some good attractions in the area . We were here as a family with our children and will be back .

One of the only hotels in Lugano which is directly on the lake. You pay a premium for that. The rooms are modern/recently refurbished and we booked a lake view so naturally that looked as good as it does in the pictures. Very good breakfast. Pool is nice, not too large but as you can imagine it's also very busy with the other guests. There is also direct access to the lake for swimming from the pool area which is nice. I saw they had equipment for SUP but didn't try that. Parking is a 5-10 min walk and the staff are lovely to help direct and inform about the parking options (30 euros per day). The only downside is no complementary water in the room. For the amount you pay, you would have expected there to be some but only bottled water from the minibar.

We loved our stay at Hotel Lido Seegarten. The rooms were beautiful, the pool was lovely, and the lake views were perfect. We especially enjoyed dinner at the restaurant and the generous breakfast spread. The location was excellent. Convenient to public transport, Monte Brè, and just a short trip to the city center.

Expensive, and rooms lack the wow factor but the lake view speaks for itself. Very nice pool area with loungers and an abundance of water equipment to use free of charge (stand up paddle boards, canoes etc.). Was a shame breakfast doors were closed at 10am precisely despite the terrace area still being quite full with guests enjoying a more leisurely start to the day. Menus were taken away and and tables cleared which made you feel rushed.

The location is great, a 15 minute walk from the city center (or a couple of bus stops), right on the lake. They have a nice pool and access to the lake as well. My room was nice and had everything needed.

Hello everyone We go with the family type kinda vacation, things was convenient for this hotel that they give you free ticket for bus and museum, the rooms wasn’t in a perfect condition seems old and our bathroom had broken part another room that we took with view looks better but the Vinson shade was broken, they don’t have free parking included what they offer is just 5 space behind the hotel if not you need to find the parking 5 minutes far from hotel. The breakfast service was nice, almost a worker respectful. The view of the hotel was beautiful.

Resort Collina d’Oro is absolutely amazing so relaxing, with great food, a wonderful spa, and very comfortable rooms. But what really made the stay unforgettable was Massimo. I stayed here for a conference for a week in June 2023. The room I got was a 1bd suite with an amazing view. The room comes with daily morning breakfast which is a fantastic 5-star buffet, not continental breakfast. Ivan and his team (I can’t recall their names) are absolute rockstars taking care of every detail of your dining experience. I had breakfast and dinner at the hotel and both were very memorable and convenient. The gym and pools are great, although the schedule is a bit inconvenient if you have to start your day early or end late at the gym (Gym opens at 8am and closes at 9pm or so). If the gym were accessible for longer hours, it would be perfect. The AM front desk staff (Simona, Raquele, Rosela, Giuseppe) were always helpful with anything from a charger adapter to helping me figure out the train schedules. Davide was also great in helping me check out quickly and providing explanation of all charges etc. Valentina was amazing at accommodating my late-notice laundry needs and taking care of the cleanliness of room/place. Overall the staff and amenities make this place a great value for the money. You get more than what you pay for in this resort. It is far enough from town (3mi/5km) for quite and relaxation, but close enough you can use their convenient bus system or schedule a taxi service without problems. A taxi will be about 70$ which will get old if you do it often, but the Ticino ticket (Hotel provided) makes all buses free so if you are OK with a 18min ride, you can save 140$ per day for 30mins on the great buses. If you are a fan of trails, there are amazing trail networks surrounding the hotel grounds with amazing panoramic views. Definitely recommended. I am definitely coming back with my family as soon as I can. Grazie Mille per tutto :)

The staff is really welcoming and the rooms are clean and tidy with a real thalasso shower. The spa has everything you need (indoor and outdoor swimming pool, Hanna and sauna). Unfortunately the indoor swimming pool is a bit cold. The service at the restaurant is really nice speaking German , English , Italian and French. The menu offers many options and the food is excellent. Small warning, If you don't like sweet and sour food, don't take the chocolate mousse ☺️. The breakfast buffet offers everything you need to start a wonderful day and everything is really tasty.

Overall, this is a very nice hotel with a fantastic view. However, the price does not quite match the overall value when compared to similar hotels. The SPA area is decent but nothing exceptional. Breakfast is fine, though repetitive and not particularly memorable. The restaurant prices are far too high given the quality and portion sizes.

Overall we had a great stay, the swimming pool location and balcony views are really amazing and great for relaxing. The service was also very professional. There are a few things that could take the place to the next level: - The carpet and room's flooring look quite dated and used up by time - My biggest disappointment is that on the day of departure we were not able to enjoy the SPA for a few more hours without paying again. It should be possible for your hotel guests to enjoy the SPA without having to pay 35 CHF per person for a full day, your check-in is at 15:00 and the check-out at 11:00, those 4 hours of included SPA or a minimum fee would make a big difference to the stay and being able to enjoy the missing 4 hours for which we pay for with the 2 nights.

Restaurant: Dinner: The food is beautifully presented and creatively composed, but the overall experience didn’t meet expectations. I had dietary preferences and requested something as simple as dressing on the side, which was ignored. When I tried to address it, it took over 25 minutes to get someone’s attention. The restaurant does not allow any adjustments—not even offering basic alternatives like grilled fish or steamed vegetables—which makes it difficult for health-conscious diners or anyone with dietary restrictions. At this price point, I expected more flexibility and better service. Breakfast: The service experience has significantly improved. It features a breakfast buffet with a good selection of food. Rooms and Housekeeping: The beds were comfortable, but the overall room quality didn’t fully meet expectations. The bedding could be improved—especially the pillows, which lacked fluff and support. The bathroom showed signs of water damage, with visibly swollen wood that had not been repaired, which detracted from the room’s condition. I had requested room cleaning around noon and confirmed directly with the cleaning staff, who assured me it would be handled after they finished the next room. However, when I returned over four hours later, the room had not been serviced. I had a confidential business call to take from the room and was then informed that housekeeping ends at 5 pm, with only a towel exchange offered. After expressing my frustration about the poor communication and service experience, they arranged for cleaning after 5 pm. Still, this is not something I expect to have to deal with at a hotel in this category. Overall, a disappointing experience. Location: Beautifully located with a view over Lake Lugano. Some nice hiking trails are close by. Mini Market just around the corner.

The hotel is kind of old, but it’s very clean. If you don’t have a car, you may struggle however, there are shuttle service, which you can arrange for a pick up from the airport or the station and daily times where the shuttle takes you down the hill in which the hotel is located. It also has a very luxurious twin hotel situated right across the street with a Michelin star restaurant, and the most amazing view in which you can see the whole lake and the whole city. The hotel is old but still shines. There is another one across the road called villa de leopoldo and it here you can dine with the view of the city. Overall the room is fine but the hotel is old and needs some serious polish and maintenance. Other than that it is a good stay for your holiday or your business trip here in Lugano. . The hotel also has gym and pool And you can use even after checkout.

Excellent location, on top of the hill and a 200 meter walk away from beautiful lake views at the adjacent hotel. The front staff was very polite and helpful. There is free parking out front but would not accommodate a mini bus. The staff helped find parking at the sister hotel down the road. The entire hotel has a vintage roman theme which was refreshingly different. There are a few stairs at the ground floor so beware if you have heavy luggage. The rooms are huge and we loved the little patio backyard which had an extendable cloth roof. The mechanical black out blinds were a nice touch. Pro-tip: as a traveler from the US, we are used to turning the bath faucet on and then pulling the knob to activate the shower. Had to do the reverse here - pull the knob up first and then turn the faucet on. Maybe this is common here but was definitely new to us and took a minute to figure out.

Stayed here for 2 nights during a trip around Switzerland. Hotel is nice enough but looks pretty dated inside, common areas & rooms could do with a bit of an uplift. For somewhere that advertises itself as a 4-star hotel, it's certainly far below other 4-stars I've stayed at, even some 3-stars. Their focus is clearly on their "sister" 5-star location across the road. Reception is only staffed during check-in hours. Whilst there is plenty of parking available, we contacted the hotel in advance for instructions/directions & were given the choice of parking outside or in their underground secure car park. Naturally we chose the underground secure car park & paid to park (which we had done around most of our Switzerland hotels so whilst expensive didn't seem unusual) however only after checking-out did we find out if we had parked outside if would have been free! This wasn't explained to us in advance or when checking in and telling the staff member where we had parked, which felt a bit deceptive. The room whilst incredibly spacious with lounge area & large balcony was unfortunately very dated with dings, scrapes & marks everywhere. Not what you'd expect from 4-star. Whilst it was advertised with A/C available, this was just a small portable unit in the corner of a very large room so was far too loud to use and ineffective as was too small for the space. To add to the noise, our first morning we were woken by 3 gas trucks at the front doing some work for several hours with engines/pumps running. The pillows were unfortunately thin & the cover unfortunately just a marked & damaged blanket wrapped in 2 sheets which would come away the second you moved. Aside from the room, the bathroom again was very dated, tape marks all over the mirror, and scrapes/dents all over the sink area. Main issue was the shower, the large rainfall shower head was broken so water just spilled out over the top rather than through the actual shower head, the smaller shower head was also insecure so couldn't be used as it would just flop down to point at the wall when you tried to adjust it. The bath taps are also at 90 degrees to the shower & the glass screen meaning in order the stand under the shower you're constantly bashing your shins into the taps. As the Reception is only staffed at check-in, there is no one to raise any concerns with. There is a phone left on the Reception desk to call through to their sister hotel opposite however our call wasn't answered. Overall I wouldn't recommend. This side of the hotel is clearly an after-thought to their 5-start location opposite. The entire place just needs some attention, both cosmetically and staffing. If you're going to advertise as a 4-star you need to provide the service to go with it, which this unfortunately doesn't. It's a shame as this hotel could be incredible. Access into Lugano city is a short taxi ride, the hotel does provide a few free shuttles every day but they don't operate particularly late or very frequently. If you don't mind the steep walk back up to the hotel, it is also walkable.

Lookouts
Monte San Salvatore is a landmark peak that offers a mountaintop village with stunning views of the lake, hiking trails, and a cable car for easy access. Nearby attractions include Monte Bre, Gotthard Pass, and the ancient Olive Trail for walking or cycling enthusiasts. The area also boasts river rafting opportunities and cultural wonders in Bellinzona, Gandria, and the San Grato Botanical Park.
Mount San Salvatore is an absolute must-visit for anyone seeking breathtaking panoramic views of Lugano. We opted to hike the trail to the summit, and we highly recommend this choice. The approximately 7-kilometer trek is filled with stunning scenery at every turn, showcasing the diverse landscapes and lush greenery of the region. While the funicular provides a quick route to the top, hiking allows you to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty, making for a more intimate and memorable experience. Along the way, you'll encounter charming viewpoints that invite you to pause and take in the surroundings. Reaching the summit is incredibly rewarding, as you'll be treated to sweeping vistas of Lake Lugano and the surrounding mountains. It's a perfect spot for photography or simply soaking in the tranquility. For those interested, there are also nearby cafés where you can relax and enjoy a refreshment. Overall, hiking Mount San Salvatore is not just an adventure; it’s a journey that enriches your appreciation for this beautiful region.

One of my favourite place. The view was breathtaking from the top. We took the funicular and changed in another funicular to the peak. We got charged cfh50 for 1 adult and 3 kids for return and chf47 for one way with ticino tickets discount which i think is not right. We decided to walked all the way down. Not recommended with young children.
Chan T — Google review
Must visit here. Trek will take at least 2 hours. Or use the funicular. Runs every 30 mins. I saw some children and parents climbing the trek. They did well.
Claire T — Google review
Monte San Salvatore is an absolute must-do if you're in the Lugano area. I went up on a day when the weather wasn't ideal, so the visibility wasn't perfect, but the experience was still incredible. The funicular ride up is a treat in itself, offering some great views on the way. Once you get to the top, it's easy to see why this spot is so famous. The panoramic view is simply stunning. Even with bad visibility, you get a beautiful perspective of Lugano, the sparkling lake, and the surrounding mountains. The feeling of being up there, with that vast landscape stretched out before you, is truly special, it's incredibly peaceful and awe-inspiring. I could have spent hours just soaking it all in. There are also a couple of restaurants at the top, and a short walk to a church that's worth checking out. If you're looking for a relatively easy trip with a massive payoff in terms of scenery and a feeling of pure tranquility, this is the place. I highly recommend it.

We wanted to see the famous San Salvatore and we loved the amazing view. It is breathtaking. Especially that the weather was amazing. Yet, we found the funicular too expensive. Once you are up, we can take a picnic and seat there to enjoy the view or you can eat at the restaurant. If you like to hike, then I would recommend to walk all the way down (2h approx).
Davina D — Google review
Worth visiting, funicular is going up every 30 minutes and it's 50% with the Swiss Travel Pass or some other discount tickets. You can also hike all the way up, it is approximately 2 hours of hiking. Lovely view of the lakes and the region, Lugano is also worth exploring especially during summer.
Azer J — Google review
In order to get here you need to reach Paradiso Stazione and then take the funicular, the ticket for which is 32 CHF return (Ticino cards offer discounts). The funicular is every 30 minutes. The view to Monte San Salvatore is absolutely stunning and what I like the best is that the place is accessible for elderly people who have difficulties walking. Before getting here you may want to check any of the web cams available online to see if weather is suitable. When you get off at the upper station of the funicular the distance you need to walk to the main viewing platform is not more than 5-10 min. There is a cafe there. From there you can do a short trek (20 min. the most) and you can reach a church. Climb the stairs and you will have a magnificent view.

We’re visiting from Dallas, Texas, and our experience at Casino Lugano was absolutely outstanding. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with genuine smiles and a warm welcome that instantly made us feel at home. The atmosphere was elegant yet relaxed, and the entire staff went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. The dealers were not only professional and knowledgeable but also incredibly friendly and personable , they made our time really fun !! What truly stood out was how attentive everyone was, our drinks were complimentary and brought to us with a smile, and we were constantly checked on to make sure we had everything we needed. It’s rare to find in these days this level of hospitality, warmth and care, and we were genuinely impressed. Casino Lugano made our visit unforgettable. Thank you so much !!!

Historical landmark
The International au Lac Historic Lakeside Hotel is steeped in tradition and features a lobby bar, an outdoor pool and a kids' play area. It is located on the shores of Lake Lugano and is a listed building.
This was a hotel as you want a traditional hotels to be. The staff were formal and professional. The common areas were large and beautiful in a traditional style. Fantastic backyard with pool and very good sun conditions. The rooms were also in a traditional style which certainly has its charm. Our room could perhaps have needed a little upgrade considering what you need in 2025, but it was clean and nice. The bathroom was large and felt more modern than the rest of the room. The breakfast was continental with a good selection and it could be taken in several rooms. Parking in a private garage, with a private entrance to the lobby, absolutely great. The location was very good for us, close to the beach promenade and in a pleasant street towards the old town. We will be back!

Quite possibly my favorite hotel I’ve ever stayed at. This family run establishment has character and is also modern. Rooms have been renovated within the past year and have AC and awesome waterfall shower heads. My husband called it a 5 star shower experience. The pool is relaxing. The included breakfast was a treat. They had some gluten free options and it was served on china with coffee service. The breakfast area and lounge has nice old school decor. There is a room on the first floor that details the hotels history in immense detail. They had photo books detailing all the hotel renovations over the years and the different generations of family members. I loved it to bits and hope that this stays a family run establishment for years to come. Going to tell everyone I know to come to Lugano and stay here!

My wife and stayed here for 2 nights in mid-October and loved everything about the hotel. The location is perfect, the rooms are luxurious, and the staff was terrific. The breakfast was decent, but nothing special but the honor bar was a great touch for grabbing a bottle of wine or coffee. Loved the set of about 100 stairs just outside the hotel for a nice workout

Coming from America I highly try recommend this hotel. The garden and pool on the 2nd floor was gorgeous. The water was 80° we loved swimming in the evenings when the sun was setting on the mountains. The rooms were spacious as were the bathrooms. The ac was great (I did ask for a fan at the front seat because I like movement of air. The location was great to all the things. We sat out on our balcony’s in the morning and evening and you could be in all the action but not hear any of it once the doors were closed! I was sad to have to leave to our next city. This hotel was spectacular!

Central hotel at the end of the pedestrian street, near Lake Lugano. A little old-fashioned, but elegant and full of character. Relatively spacious room. Very clean. The faucet in the bathtub was not working and when I asked at night, the receptionist came within a few moments and fixed it. Excellent breakfast, the staff is simply great. Friendly, welcoming, very available. We received a free travel card and used it a lot.

Hotel from 1906, and it shows. Rooms are extremely noisy, we could hear the neighbor’s alarm buzzing as if it were mine, footsteps from upstairs, and loud noise from outside. Sleep is impossible. Rooms are completely outdated: old phone, bathroom, and single glass windows. All stuck in 1906. The most important thing in a hotel is a peaceful night’s rest, especially for a young family like ours. Here, this was not possible. We even checked out one night earlier. Reception showed no care and spoke only Italian, unwilling to communicate in German or English.
Bonnie V — Google review
The hotel is truly beautiful — everything was spectacular, from the elegant design to the exceptionally comfortable bed and high-quality linens. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. However, one important detail affected our stay: there is no air conditioning available at night below 23°C. With the windows closed, the room became quite hot and stuffy, making it difficult to sleep. Leaving the windows open wasn’t a good option either, as the city lights and street noise made the room too bright and noisy. Unfortunately, even with all the wonderful amenities, we were deprived of a good night’s sleep. A bit more flexibility with the air conditioning settings would make the experience perfect.

We had a great two-night stay at the Hotel International Au Lac and really enjoyed our stay there. Lovely old and historic hotel, nicely furnished and interesting. Very friendly staff, good facilities and breakfast was very good and plentiful too. Close to the lake but a bit of a distance from the train station which is at the top of the hill. If arriving by train it is best to catch the funicular railway down to lake level, which we missed, and then walk along the main pedestrianised street to the hotel. Fare is less than €2 but free with hotel travel pass. Despite staying during the July heatwave our room had very good aircon and nice beds. Room was quiet and we slept well. Water from the tap is very drinkable. Would definitely stay again.

Located in the heart of Lugano, Switzerland, the Best Western Hotel Bellevue Au Lac offers beckoning lake views and all of the luxurious service and amenities you could hope for. With two restaurants on site and an outdoor pool, this is a perfect spot to rest up after exploring this beautiful town.
We had a lovely stay with amazing staff in a great classic design hotel with a charming and magical lake view in Lugano City; to be more specific, the hotel is in Paradiso. Paradiso is more quite and it is near the Lugano city center around 20 min by walking and 4 to 7 min by train. There are around four restaurants near the hotel and around 10 min to the Paradiso central station. One thing I want to say is that I saw on my balcony too many network spiders. Despite the spider network, our stay was so beautiful. This is my recommendation to everyone who wants a quiet stay and a brilliant hotel with a wonderful lake view and friendly staff. I would extend my thanks to Mrs. Veronica; she works in the hotel restaurant, and she made breakfast that is memorable and remarkable. My rating is (8.5/10).

Beautiful Hotel with Spacious Rooms, Great Facilities, and Delicious Food I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The hotel itself is stunning, and the rooms are spacious with plenty of usable space — perfect for relaxing and moving around comfortably. The food was absolutely delicious, with a great variety of dishes that satisfied every craving. On top of that, the staff were friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. All of this at a very reasonable price — great value for money! 🥰 Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable stay without breaking the bank.

After a long day I arrived at what must be the worst value hotel in Switzerland. One person working in the hotel. Carrying luggage, checking in guests, opening the parking garage. Room small, old and in great need of updating. No view. Parking spaces in front of hotel “reserved”. No valet parking. But no self-parking either. The one person working had to go to the garage unlock it and then help you park since the spots are so tiny. I asked for adjoining rooms. Not only are they not adjoining rooms. Not only are they not adjoining they are not even close. Decided to take a shower. Shower is tiny and the door is broken. Tried to connect to internet and log in details on the key don’t work. The one person working has to come up to my room twice at midnight to try multiple passwords. Asked to speak to the manager, he is at home relaxing. I asked to call him. Answer no. I asked what time he arrives in the morning. After 10am. So the manager will not be in the hotel during my stay. In short avoid this rip off at all cost.

Excellent location, hôtel, staff and very reasonably priced. I would definitely stay there again So close to everything and yet quiet and very convenient. The shaded strolls along the lake are charming and unforgettable. The side views of the lake from my decent sized balcony were enjoyable and refreshing in their rarity these days, and very appreciated. I would stay there again even though the room, bathroom and shower were a bit small and needed some upgrading. Travelling solo it was not a big deal for me but might be for others.

Hotel Villa Carona is a luxurious establishment with rooms adorned with frescoes and wall paintings, offering an elegant restaurant and a charming garden terrace. This 200-year-old patrician estate holds significant historical value and is located in a picturesque village where Hermann Hesse once spent time. The dishes are a symphony of authentic flavors, prepared with fresh, quality ingredients, making every meal an unforgettable experience. The service is impeccable, with a staff that is always attentive and available, ready to meet every guest’s need with professionalism and courtesy. Stay Experience We stayed for one night and truly loved the experience. The hotel is beautifully situated in Carona, a picturesque village near Lugano. It feels authentic, with a unique mix of rustic charm and elegance. Everything is very well maintained, from the interiors to the surroundings, which gave the entire stay a special atmosphere. ------- Garden & Atmosphere The garden is stunning and clearly well cared for. The hotel as a whole feels warm and welcoming, almost like staying in someone’s home, while still offering a high level of comfort and refinement. It combines a friendly, familiar atmosphere with culinary experiences that could compete with some of the finest hotels we have stayed in. ------- Dining The restaurant has a lovely ambience, and the food was outstanding, easily one of the best value-for-money experiences we’ve had in a long time. The breakfast was also of very high quality, with many options, all prepared with great care. ------- Room for Improvement The only drawback we noticed was the number of wasps and bees on the terrace during breakfast. This made it difficult to fully relax and enjoy. While we truly appreciate that the hotel respects nature and protects these important creatures, it might be worth exploring gentle measures to make breakfast on the terrace a bit more comfortable for guests.

🌸 Hotel villa Carona is absolutely stunning! Everything here is so beautiful and picturesque, it feels like stepping into a charming old world escape, but with everything perfectly cared for. You can feel the love and attention in every detail the rooms, the décor, the scents, and the gorgeous garden, which is just perfect. It’s a place full of soul and tranquility. I’m completely in love with it and would recommend it to everyone looking for a peaceful, magical stay!🌸🍀

Amazing small friendly hotel, up in the mountains near Lugano. Lovely comfy hotel room with amazing views. Fantastic breakfast in the garden with mountains as a backdrop. STEPHEN G — Google review
This is a tough review to write, but hopefully helpful to its readers. This place is visually stunning and has so much more potential. The pros: The garden is absolutely stunning! It is such a beautiful place and the pool is a perfect add on - the vibe of the little town, the views, the old building/villa. Amazing! The cons: The service. Especially one staff member (short hair, heavy eastern German dialect) was very rude to us on multiple occasions. Not sure why, maybe it’s just that person way, but this has nothing to do with hospitality. The audience. Not sure why this hotel lets large family groups with multiple small children book, but the tranquility of the hotel and surroundings was completely destroyed and it felt more like a visit to an amusement park. It’s just not the right setting for that (we weren’t the only people annoyed) and the prices are much too high for this type of Experience. If you want to make it family friendly, at least establish ground rules with the guests, so that the other paying customers can still enjoy their stay. The restaurant. The staff here is much better than in the hotel itself, but the prices are outrageous for the quality of food provided. The beef tartar had a very unusual color and consistency (and taste), which was almost rude to serve. The sauce served with fish was a thick, overly-creamy paste which would’ve been a better fit for a home improvement store rather than a restaurant - this dish alone was 42 CHF, we’re talking Zurich prices in a small town that most people haven’t heard of. Overall: Would love to return to the area, but will definitely check out an alternative for the next time.
Timo G — Google review
As lovely as the town, garden, and charme of this place are - can’t recommend it, because the staff simply came off as arrogant and pushy, again and again. Maybe it’s going so well that they do not need to be nice to guests anymore, but not sure what that has to do with hospitality. Can’t imagine that anyone working there (including the owner) has any prior experience working in a hotel or restaurant. The restaurant staff was really nice, but it’s a bit separated from the main hotel and it felt like they were all Italians. Different mentality, I guess. Prices were over the top, though! You’ll feel like ordering food in Monaco!

WORST HOSPITALITY EXPERIENCE. The nice location does not compensate for the awful hospitality experience we had at this location. We were in Ticino for the wedding of our friends, who made a two-night reservation for us at this hotel. Since we were not able to stay for two nights, ONE MONTH before the wedding, after written communications with the hotel, we phoned it directly restating our situation and confirming the intention to stay one night. They very kindly said that they would have taken care of making all the necessary modifications to our reservation and, upon our request, that it was not necessary for us to send them an email on this. Long story short: when we arrived at the hotel (after clearly staying just one night and with no heads-up whatsoever from the hotel), the manager pretended to charge us with two nights (with breakfast for both days), arrogantly claiming that even if we had that phone conversation 1) they had NOT changed the reservation; 2) essentially implying we had been foolish to only trust their word by phone; and 3) following our complaints, threatening to CHARGE THE SPOUSE with the extra night we did not want to pay. We have never been more shocked for the rudeness and complete lack of accountability on the hotel’s behalf. On the other hand, we heard that the other guests of the wedding had wonderful experiences with super available hosts in equally beautiful nearby hotels. ** To the answer below: again, it regrets me to see that a few clarifications are still required. At check out, we were only presented with the check, which the manager very quickly clarified specified “two nights”: no questions were ever asked on our staying or whether we experienced any particular issue, and we certainly did not rate our experience positively. Also, all the written emails we exchanged with the hotel clearly stated we wanted to keep the booking for one night only. Mistakes in the management of a reservation may happen. But the stubbornness of the hotel not to take ownership for its own disorganization and unload its consequences on its customers was a truly never-before-seen situation, and frankly not acceptable.

Peaceful, stylish, vibe, service are the first words that come to mind. This is one of the most relaxing and enjoyable hotels and locations I have ever stayed. From the excellent and personable service to the courtyard breakfast to the WiFi in the gardens where you can work and look out at beautiful scenery this was wholly delightful. There is a excellent restaurant right on the adjacent courtyard. The whole experience is idyllic. It’s not close to anything, but you can take the bus to town (short walk). It walk the local streets and enjoy the magnificent views. I was there on a business trip but would love to return with my family someday.

I’m writing this review while still staying at Aria Retreat, and I must say—I am beyond impressed. The hospitality, especially from Denise and Karl, has made our honeymoon truly unforgettable. Every meal was amazing, and it was so convenient to have so many great options without leaving the property. What really made it special was the staff, they were so kind, welcoming, and thoughtful throughout my stay. The entire experience felt so luxurious and well curated. I’m already dreaming of coming back. Highly, highly recommend!

Wonderful stay in Aria. Quiet, private and peaceful. Lovely staff and the best suite we stayed in all of Italy. Amazing unspoilt views of Lake Lugano. The breakfasts were incredible. The in-room dining and Muse restaurant portion steak sizes at times were very small leaving us hungry but that’s a minor detail. I really wish they would consider changing the minimum age from 16 to 12 years old for the restaurant and pool.

Cannot recommend Aria enough! This place exceeded all of my expectations. Not only did they upgrade me to a penthouse suite upon arrival but they staff are so incredibly kind and attentive, they made it feel like a home away from home. The property is stunning and the spa services and amenities are outstanding. You're also able to enjoy the restaurants and other amenities on the San Marco property, which is great -- booked a private tennis lesson and enjoyed the beach/lakefront. Our New Favorite Hotel! You Have to Go! We had such an amazing time at this hotel! The service was absolutely wonderful; everyone was so kind and helpful, making us feel right at home. The hotel itself is packed with great stuff. The spa was a dream, so many options to just relax and enjoy. And they've got plenty of pools for everyone, from little ones to us adults just wanting to chill out. The beach was fantastic too. And the food, every single dish was delicious. Honestly, we had such a great trip. We highly recommend checking this place out!

Nestled along the serene shores of a picturesque lake, Elvezia al Lago is a charming traditional hotel that can only be accessed by boat, adding to its allure. With stunning views from cozy rooms adorned with antique artwork and floral motifs, guests can unwind on their private balconies while soaking in the tranquil surroundings. The intimate atmosphere is perfect for candlelit dinners and leisurely strolls through the idyllic countryside.
Stopped for lunch enroute on our walk from Lugano to Grandia - a gorgeous and quirky little restaurant with amazing views that serves a limited menu but very delicious food! Staff are lovely. Recommend stopping here on your walk or boat trip, have lunch and then walk (easy 10min walk) to Grandia.

Only reviewing the terrace: we sat down for a coffee near the lake - after ordering we were told we can’t sit there if we don’t order food and have to move to a worse location. Not very friendly. Other people were sitting lakeside only drinking coffee. Also lots of empty tables lakeside. I don’t like to assume bad intentions but it kind of felt like we were being rushed out because we were foreigners.

It was quite an experience staying at this family-run hotel. Super quiet and scenic. Only you and the mountains. The owner Rosa spoke Italian, English, German. Just 10 rooms available. Credit card payment possible. Breakfast was simple, yet the steamed eggs & soft bread were amazing. It took 10 minutes to walk from the nearest parking lot (west to the Elvezia), which was a nice ritual to leave the city behind and calm down through the path. The path was rocky & sandy, and could be muddy in rain - be prepared to carry your luggage all the way. One parking space was dedicated to the hotel - ask in advance for the space number. It was not a luxury hotel. WiFi signal was too weak to use in the room. Bathroom was small. Maybe consider bringing your own toiletries.

We took the train down from Lucerne in late June for a two night stay and we were so happy with the hotel and the fact that coincidentally there we a week long Jazz festival on the lakefront that we extended our stay for two more nights. The staff was great and the views out of the front windows were fantastic !

If you are staying at the hotel get a WATER TAXI from Lugano Central 50 CHF otherwise you have at least a 20 minute walk along a steep path from Gandria East of the Hotel, or a 10-15 minute easier walk along the path from parking area at Via Cortivo west of the Hotel. Beware very few boats stop at the Dock outside the hotel just 1200 & 1400 to Lugano or 1430 or 1700 back from Lugano BUT there’s more options from the Gandria stop. (2025 summer schedule picture. Also note there is a Funicular from the Train Station down into the City centre Piazza Cioccaro which is just an easy 5 minute walk to the waterfront. The location is beautiful and quiet with fantastic views. The hotel is dated and old fashioned but clean and adorned with old oil paintings. I would class it a 2* We had room 3 with a small extra terrace with shade. There’s a small garden with loungers on the side of the lake and swimming in the lake was fabulous when it was hot. They were putting portable air conditioning units in the room when we were there. It was unusually and exceptionally hot 32c every day. Breakfast was acceptable but basic - Cereals, yogurt, bread, fruit, but nothing hot. I would avoid the dinners, I would say rustic but the walk into Gandria to the Antico Restaurant was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This hotel could be so much better and it was obvious there were returning guests. So in conclusion once we’d sorted out how to get there and get around we loved the location and would go back

Relais Castello di Morcote is a charming boutique hotel set in a 17th-century villa overlooking Lugano Lake. With 12 unique bedrooms and suites, it offers an intimate and magical retreat for nature enthusiasts and wine lovers as it's part of the Castello di Morcote wine estate. Guests can enjoy authentic local cuisine at two restaurants - Vicania immersed in greenery, and La Sorgente with a splendid terrace.
Had a fabulous 3 night stay. The hotel is located in the prettiest corner of Ticino. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Breakfast was basic but good. The restaurant on the ground floor had some mind blowing food and we quite enjoyed the Castello wine by the same owner as the hotel. I would recommend hiring a rental car if you choose to stay here, there's not great public transport around and it's quite a walk from Morcote itself as well.

This is a truly special property. Booked two rooms for our family of four for one night as part of a larger trip to Switzerland. We wished it were more. The hotel is beautiful and perfectly decorated and the staff are excellent. A walk through to their vineyard and castle is a must. The restaurant Vicania was also exceptional. A 5 star experience across the board. Could not recommend a stay here more.

Absolutely stunning and peaceful hotel - design, architecture, aesthetic - great for a weekend away! The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly, I think this is what really made our stay so special. The rooms are very nice, bed is extremely comfortable, view is breathtaking. The only thing is that it's a bit dark in the room and the lighting isn't the best. It's great for the "vibe", not so great for putting on makeup. Their restaurant, Vicania, is so delicious, I highly recommend to check it out. It's also a great area to go for a hike!

We’ve had an amazing stay at this lovely hotel. Andrea gave us a warm welcome and tour in the hotel to explain the history and details. The rooms are small but cozy. The breakfast is very good, there is no direct parking but they offer a free garage nearby. Don’t forget to walk to the castle and winery, the view up there is amazing!

Went to its restaurant La Sorgente with a business crew. We had a fabulous experience and evening there! The personnel was very dedicated and focused on detail. While the atmosphere and setting are basic and provide a bit of Ticino style, the restaurant was lovely and probably tries to go even further towards fine dining. The menu prepared for us was an excellent combination of dishes, wine was great too. Currently it suggests to be permanently closed but if not, I highly recommend it!

My wife and I LOVED our stay here. It’s in a small village at the top of a winding road, which made it feel private, authentic, and removed from the more touristy areas. The views of the landscape from that viewpoint were incredible. It’s within an 8 minute drive from the main area of Morcote, which has some great restaurants and a beautiful walk along the water. The hotel has a really pretty vintage feel and has some great common spaces inside and outside to lounge and drink some wine or read a book. Our room was also great—very pretty, comfortable, spacious, and had AC. There’s a vineyard that the hotel owns that is about a 5 min walk away. Hotel guests have an access code to stroll through it at any time or there are organized wine tours. Our walk through the vineyard at sunset was amazing. The hotel had parking nearby so driving over to Lugano or other towns (we loved gandria) was easy. But we actually enjoyed being in the more low key, beautiful area of Morcote way more than Lugano. The staff was great. We accidentally booked two hotel rooms, and the women running reception were super helpful and sorted it out without any issue. Breakfast buffet and the service there was also awesome (our waitress knew our drink orders by the second day!) Definitely going to stay hear again next time we visit.

This hotel is one of those unexpected gems where you wish you stayed longer. We booked one night on our way back to Geneva after 3 weeks road-tripping around Switzerland and northern Italy. At check in, Samar welcomed us graciously and gave us a tour of the hotel. The hotel is wonderfully intimate and rooms are beautifully decorated. There are several cozy sitting areas where you can enjoy a fire in the fireplace (probably winter only) and an honor bar for wine and other beverages and snacks. The outdoor area for breakfast (included) is gorgeous and the town is beautiful as well. Our only regret is we didn't stay longer. Next time.
Steven T — Google review
Lovely design hotel for a short stay. Had the best sleep with the amazing bedding. Quite minimalist in terms of amenities - don’t be expecting a mini bar or tea kettle in the room. Instead there’s a quaint mini bar of sorts in the common space on the 2nd floor, if you want a cuppa or glass of wine. The restaurant within the hotel is separately run and room service is not available, so plan meals accordingly. If like me you don’t drive, it’s not the most convenient. Buses are super reliable and punctual but make sure to plan your activities around the bus timings.

Views outside - amazing Food (we were big group and tried almost everything) - exceptional But service - was a disaster. I don’t recall so rude servers in my life. On the question “where is the toilet?”, the answer was “I am not a hostess, madam”. All the time empty glasses (but bottles are not in the tables) so each of us had to ask each time for a drink and each time the face of the waiter was so bothered and bored like I came to his house uninvited. Etc etc. Owners must definitely work on staff training.

Definitely we will be back again , thank you, grazie mille !

I had a very disappointing experience at this hotel on 31st August 2025. I had booked a lake view suite, but upon arrival I was not given the room I had reserved. Instead of offering a sincere apology or a solution, the front desk staff member on duty that morning was extremely rude and unhelpful. For a property in such a beautiful location, I expected better service and hospitality. Being treated in this way, especially after booking one of the hotel’s higher-category rooms, left a very negative impression. I hope management takes this feedback seriously to ensure other guests don’t experience the same.

Lake Lugano is a glacial mountain lake and resort town offering various activities such as passenger and private boat rides, dining, and shopping. The 5-star Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola sits right on the shores of the lake, surrounded by a private subtropical park. The hotel features an indoor pool, tennis court, and three restaurants serving Mediterranean dishes made from fresh seasonal ingredients. Originally a noble Russian family's home, the mansion was transformed into a hotel in 1885.
It was great, because the weather was perfect, nice and sunny. If you visit Lugano, make sure you go on a sunny day. You can rent motorboats and pedalos, but you also can just enjoy a strole around the lake.

For those seeking night fun, there are various options nearby such as El Mojito Tropical Lounge for fancy cocktails, Al Lido for pre-club gatherings, and Belle Epoque Bar where you can enjoy live piano entertainment.
We like the Grand Cafe so much we went three times while in Lugano! The chocolate croissant was one of the best I've had in Europe and my niece said the cream croissant was the best she's ever had! We ordered the European hot chocolate and regular hot chocolate both with whipped cream. They were delicious! We also had a mango and chocolate mouse dessert that was divine. The interior isnart deco and very inviting. The staff is friendly and efficient.

This art center never disappoints. The natural lighting and high-ceiling spaciousnesses encourages an inner calm and bolsters the ability to reflect. Good location and tasty pizza. Unfortunately the waitress (older one) is really rude — is it tiring to bring to the table the payment terminal? There are also locations for picnics and grilling, but camping and lighting fires is prohibited. There are a number of public water fountains as well with clean and fresh tasting water. The scenic overlook offers a great view. The panoramic trail however is long and arrives at the top where there is only a weather station and no view. The walk in the wood though is very pleasant and non technical, although there are some slight grades.

The most amazing view we could have gotten in Lugano region. Can see a huge portion of the lake and coast. The garden is also absolutely stunning. Clean and well kept with prestine public WC.

Beautiful park! Absolutely stunning views over the lake, some art there too, botanical gardens, playground for kids, barbecue place as well, and a viewpoint with the swing! WOW, it really got it all! Recommended!

Nice place to visit if you wanna see the beautiful view of Lake Lugano. It was not so easy going up as the path we took was the narrow one, you need to watch your step as there are some roots of the trees and rocks..but if you are to up to some little challenge then definitely worth it. There are some benches you can take a rest and enjoy the view.

The botanical garden of San Grato offers unique natural characteristics, but also an exceptional panoramic view on the immediate surroundings and on the peaks of the alpine chain. Visiting the park you’ve got the sensation of entering an enchanted world, where colors and odors of azaleas, camellia and rhododendrons make you feel unforgettable emotions. The park lies behind the majestic Monte San Salvatore on 690 meters on the charming peninsula just 10km from Lugano. It belongs to the municipality of Carona that towers above the Lake. The park is situated in an exceptional position from a scenery point of view. The park with a size of 62000 square meters has the greatest collection of azaleas, rhododendrons and conifers in Insubria, in terms of variety and quantity. The park is also a great place to stop during the hike from Monte San Salvatore, through Carona with its picturesque hamlet to Morcote, and for mountain bikers needing a break after some single trails on the peninsula. In the center of the park there is a restaurant that offers delicious meals, accompanied by an authentic smile and a great view. Carona can also be reached by public transport from Lugano in just 20 minutes. (Ticino.ch)

Nestled in the picturesque hills above Lugano, Locanda del Conventino offers a charming retreat for travelers seeking both comfort and convenience. This informal hotel features understated yet cozy rooms, including a suite, all equipped with complimentary WiFi and coffee/tea making facilities. Guests can indulge in delightful meals at the on-site international restaurant or unwind on the lovely garden terrace while soaking up stunning views of Lake Lugano and the majestic Denti della Vecchia Mountain Range.
We had a spectacular dinner here. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the restaurant is in a beautifully decorated setting. All the food was prepared with fresh local ingredients. We loved the gnocchi, and the polenta saltimbocca. Great selection of local wines at reasonable prices and yummy desserts. Highly recommended.

The room was nice and clean. The only two things I'd point out was the shower head, which was just terrible, please change it and the green light shining right next to your head when in the bed. Otherwise great service for a good price.
Jean M — Google review
It's a small (almost family managed) hotel with 8 rooms in total. Ours, "Il noce" offered a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains despite the hotel being in the front street. Location wise, it was very comfortable for my journey, but it's not a town center hotel for sure. Also this is not suitable for a disabled person, as there's no elevator to the rooms. The room refinement is fine, provided with a Nespresso coffee machine and water. The hotel does not provide a breakfast service, even if you're willing to pay. They provided two packed croissants for the morning after. However, by the time the room service came - since we were in the room - they did not ask whether we needed more coffee, or croissants for the morning after. That would have been appreciated; likewise I would have loved to have a second shower towel and second set of soap. What I didn't like is the two twin beds, joined in a double bed. I'm sure I asked for a double. Overall the experience was ok.

This is not a hotel. It is a place where you can get a room to sleep. There is no service whatsoever. The day of our arrival, we were chased the whole day to say what time we would arrive. In the end, upon arrival, we had to still wait for the owner. The owner did not bother to wear a corona face mask inside and even in our bedroom. The hotel is far away from the city centre, so in most cases, I assume, guests will come by car and want to park. There is plenty of parking space available, which is for both visiting restaurant and hotel guests. The difference is, the restaurant guests can park for free in the same parking, whereas the hotel guests have to pay. Just a hidden charge. Not recommended if you want have some joy in your stay.

Good service even if they missed my second order, they proposed to change it but I refused. I got two times the fried dishes, the fritto del conventino and the fritto misto, both well done. I was expecting something else, probabliy not the right evening to come and taste the food. Mozzarella was missing. All in all ok, not my preferred restaurant in ticino.

(Translated by Google) I stayed here for two nights, perfect double room for single use, has everything you need, very clean. The staff is very helpful and friendly, a plus point I would say! The hotel is located less than 10 minutes by car from the center of Lugano. Literally under the hotel there is the Etnic restaurant which is very good for both eating and drinking (Original) Ho soggiornato qui per due notti, camera doppia uso singolo perfetta, ha tutto quello che ti serve, molto pulita.

Churches & Cathedrals
Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angioli is a small Catholic church with a bell tower and frescoes in the nave. Its construction began in 1499, and it features a more modest facade compared to Lugano Cathedral. However, it is home to some of Switzerland's most renowned Renaissance artwork, including 'Passion and Crucifixion' by Bernardo Luini, a disciple of Leonardo da Vinci.
A beautiful church with very old (medieval) frescoes. A must visit while in Lugano. Can be visited daily but not during the masses or concerts. Masses are at 5.30pm on Saturday and 10:30am and 5pm on Sundays. Before the mass on Saturday at 5pm and mass on Sunday at 4:30pm there's an organ concert of classical music for free. The church is open every day from 8:30am till 6pm. There's a lot written in the church to explain the frescoes or one can book a guided tour.

I visited Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angioli mainly for the famous fresco and it truly lived up to the hype. The artwork by Bernardino Luini took my breath away. From the outside it looks simple, but inside, it’s unforgettable.

Beautiful church. You'll be surprised when you hear the story about the paintings inside
Alberto M — Google review
If you enjoy art, do not miss the most significant Renaissance fresco in Switzerland within the Santa Maria degli Angioli church (cornerstone laid in 1499). Painted by a local artist Bernardino Luini (b1480) in 1529, just three years before he died. The church contains a description (in Italian) outlining the meaning of the different figures in this wall size fresco. This church was founded by Reformed Followers of St. Francis beginning with Brother Silvesti in 1439 during a tumultuous time for the region. Problems included the ongoing fight between the Guelphs & Ghibellines (Pope Supporters vs Roman Emperor supporters), the territorial disputes between aristocrats and the onset of the plaque. The church is not encrusted with gold but rather embodies a calmness one usually associates with the divine. For that and providing written historical context to educate the visitor, I gave it 5 starts

Absolutely stunning views and the most quaint little church. Would recommend the visit and a visit inside the church. We were very privileged to see how Italian people live in this stunning place.

Home to the most famous Renaissance fresco in Switzerland painted by Bernardino Luini; who studied under Leonardo da Vinci. The church itself was built in 1499-1500.

Parco San Marco Hotels & Beach Resort is a luxurious retreat located on the eastern edge of Lake Lugano, surrounded by breathtaking views of the lake and mountains. The resort boasts top-notch amenities including indoor and outdoor pools, multiple restaurants, a spa, and a private beach. Guests can enjoy spacious suites with modern comforts and stunning lake views. The property also features an extensive park, children's playground, and wellness oasis with various relaxation options.
I have to add to the five star reviews of this place, as it really is so special! Everything was just fantastic, but the highlight really is the wonderful staff, every staff member was so friendly and helpful. In particular they love all the little children and greeted them so warmly every morning at breakfast. The location is fabulous, the views across the lake are stunning and the private beach area with the blow up slide down by the lake is the best area of the hotel in my opinion. There are beautifully manicured grounds and if you wander up high there are peaceful places to sit and unobstructed views across the lake. Breakfast was fantastic with a great selection, however - dinner in the main restaurant we found not so good, with slow service, the menu was not really explained, and the food very disappointing. My husband was served BBQ sauce with a filet steak! The other restaurants on the property we can't speak to as many of them only allowed children above the age of 16. Lastly the room, we had a prime view and it was very peaceful at night, the entertainment at the bar below was very considerate as it finished at 10 the latest. The room could do with a bit of an upgrade in terms of decor, but it was extremely clean and the beds were very comfy. I would say that if you are paying for a family suite that has a kitchenette, it's a bit stingy to not let the guests use the kitchen utensils without being charged extra (90 euros for the stay), as you are already paying a premium so we thought that should have been included. Overall though, I highly recommend this wonderful hotel for a trip to the Italian lakes, and particularly if you have children (all ages) as there is so much for them to do!

Overall we had a lovely stay. The location and resort itself are amazing, the views and lake are out of this world. The staff were brilliant and so friendly. The kids pool and family spa were fantastic. The only downside for us were the added costs we hadn't fully expected (missed details when booking), €10/day for parking (with a 50% discount for booking direct) and €17 per NIGHT (!) for a baby cot. When the overall stay is pretty expensive these added extras seemed a bit ridiculous. If going, recommend staying B&B and exploring Perlazzo for evening meals or see Claudio at the pool for delicious pizzas ⭐
Lauren M — Google review
We had a great experience here, all of the staff were amazing! We enjoyed a day at the spa and spent all our time on the resort. Logistically it is a little difficult to get to as you must take the bus or a $70 taxi to the resort so I recommend the bus it was under $10 for 2 people. There is plenty of food options here but I recommend getting the half board at the very least as it can get expensive. Overall we had a great experience and I would recommend staying here as it is nothing short of beautiful and relaxing.

Unfortunately, we were never able to experience this hotel due to a last-minute health issue that prevented us from traveling to Italy at all. We had been genuinely looking forward to our stay and notified the hotel more than a week in advance - well outside what would typically be considered a last-minute cancellation. Despite this, the hotel declined to offer a refund or even a partial credit. We made every effort to transfer the reservation to someone else, but were unsuccessful. Throughout this process, we found the hotel's customer service to be rigid and lacking empathy, as though unexpected emergencies are not part of life. Given the circumstances, both personal and global, we had hoped for a more understanding and humane response. In the future, in this world where uncertainty is a constant, we will make sure to choose a hotel that treats us as people and not a mere wallet. Edit: I now see a response from the hotel. While my Gmail account does not reflect my name I am in no way anonymous. The last name is Ariav and we have made many direct and open attempts and communications with customer service only to receive a shrugging "empathetic" response, sending us to seek help elsewhere, which I recognize in this response as well. It is a far cry from trying to truly solve an unfortunate situation - and possibly retaining a paying customer in the future. You are more than welcome to reach out to me through my email if you find a real compromise, not just lip service. Best. Final edit: Parco San Marco reached out to us and, as a special exception to their policy, agreed to provide a voucher for use at their resort. We are grateful for their consideration and hope to be able to make use of it.

Beautiful view! The hotel is so nice and accommodating. The staff were very informative on how to get to places and advised the most efficient routes to get around. The bus is right in front that can take you to the train station. Its a journey to get to it, but so worth it.

Great to be back for a 6th!! visit - testament to how much I love this place. The wonderful Giulia was there to greet with hospitable charm and a warm welcome. However, and hence the low rating, we were given a lowest elevation room next to the road with a limited view and noisy (see picture), despite having amazing views on all prior visits. To be clear, the interior of the room is fine but this place is all about the view of the lake. Upon asking to change room, was told that there were no other 3 bedroom apartments available. We were offered a 2 bed plus a separate 1 bed, which I was willing to take despite splitting the family, but was asked to pay 700 euros more. Very disappointing given this was booked well in advance. Come on Parco San Marco….. surely you can do better than that, especially for return visitors!

One of the best hotels in the area. Gorgeous views to the lake. Family, friendly, and lots of activities around. There’s a play ground for the children outdoor pool indoor pool sound a Jacuzzi steam room for the adult. The food is delicious, and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Switzerland is just a 15 minute drive away. Most of restaurants close after 10 but there’s a Turkish kebab place and a pizza restaurant that is less than five minutes away and close at 12 AM. The vegetarian and margarita pizza are the best.

The Continental Parkhotel Lugano is a family-run establishment situated just 200 meters south of Lugano's main railway station. Guests can enjoy the convenience of regular funicular services to the city center. The hotel boasts a refreshing outdoor pool set within a spacious park, providing an ideal retreat after a day of exploring Lugano. Accommodation options include air-conditioned and soundproofed rooms, with comfort and superior room categories available in different buildings on the property.
A total 5 star experience BUT NOTE this gorgeous hotel with amazing views sits directly above a small but busy train station with both commuter and cargo trains alllll day and night. With that said it did NOT detract from our stay (maybe just a little from napping with the doors open... ). With the doors closed it was very quiet and trains were not an issue (an inner garden room might not be affected by trains). We had room 70 and it was such a glorious view. The room was spacious and clean. The restaurant was AMAZING! The waitstaff were so friendly and helpful. Service was exceptional. Breakfast was outstanding. Also note as the hotel sits above town, you could do a steep multi stair down and up but recommend the funicular which is right in the train station below. As a little crowded and hectic as town can be this hotel is a beautiful and peaceful oasis. The grounds are gorgeous and the whole experience was wonderful. This part of the trip was my favorite because of the Continental Parkhotel experience!
Janis — Google review
The location of the hotel is great, being just a few minutes walk from the station. The entrance next to the railway tracks is the main entrance to the hotel, and the main door of the hotel is up the flight of stairs. It was a bit unassuming at first and I had thought I arrived at the back entrance. The hotel's theme and decor is very grand and classy, fitting for its long history. The buffet breakfast is great with lots of hot food (so much meat!), and the staff makes you a cup of coffee to start with. The bar in the hotel is also a great option, with happy hour between 17:00-18:00 during which drinks are almost half priced. In addition I was served some free snacks to go with my beer so I was happy to order a few more. A great place to relax after a tiring day out. The rooms are comfy but a bit bare. For one there is no kettle in the room, which I had thought was almost a standard item in any hotel room by now. There is shower gel provided but they come in these weird, flat, single use packets. Lastly there are no blackout blinds, only a translucent lace layer. Leaving the issue of sunlight interrupting your sleep aside, it seems to provide not much privacy especially as there are other occupied buildings in sight. There is a balcony with a chair attached to my room, I imagine if you are a smoker you can sit outside and enjoy the fresh air while you relax. There are modern air conditioners in the room which are also capable of heating as well as cooling.

I was here for business and stayed for two nights and I got to say: the surrounding, the greenery and the ambiente is amazing. Especially in summer times. The pool seems amazing. It is less than 3 minutes from the Lugano main station. The service at breakfast, reception and the bar is impeccable. Totally worth a stay and would come again, if I am in Lugano. The only downside I had was the proximity to the main station, as I was able to hear the train in the night, even with the windows closed.

Located conveniently across the street from the train station, for easy access to the lakeside stores and cafes, and the Lugano shopping area. The hotel is charming with well appointed modern rooms, while reserving the old world charm of decades before. Water pressure in the showers was excellent which we much appreciated! The grounds are very beautiful and well maintained. There is a beautiful bar and resident on site which I wish we had time to visit!

I'm a wedding photographer and had a wedding in Italy and had an unforgettable stay at this beautiful hotel in Lugano. The highlight for me was the stunning garden filled with graceful palm trees—a serene oasis perfect for relaxing at any time of day. The breakfast buffet was exceptional, offering a wide variety of fresh and delicious options that made every morning a pleasure. The staff were warm and attentive, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. I can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Lugano. jenslindnerfotografie

Had a ground floor room on the outdoor pavilion. With the windows closed, you can hear the trains all day and night, as well as your neighbors from the adjacent rooms moving their furniture (why at 6:00 AM???) and tending to their crying babies. The room itself was simple and dated, relatively clean. To lock the door you had to jimmy the handle. I have to say it didn't feel very secure. Another thing is that to get to the city you have to go through the train station, which at night might not be very plesent. The receptionists were very nice and helpfull.

We have stayed at the Continental Park Hotel twice—once in June 2022 and again in August 2025—and truly enjoyed both visits to this traditional, family-owned hotel. While we often stay at hotel chains and have nothing against them, the Continental Park Hotel has a unique spirit and warmth that reflects the care and dedication of the owning family. The hotel does offer luxury rooms, but most accommodations are simple, spotlessly clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed. In 2025, we chose a lake-view room, which offered a stunning panorama. The only drawback was some noise from the nearby train, but this can be easily managed with earplugs. Both lake-view and park-view rooms have their own advantages and trade-offs. Although we are not big breakfast eaters, we found the breakfast here to be excellent—clearly prepared with care and effort—and it comes with the added pleasure of a breathtaking lake view from the breakfast room. We are already looking forward to our next stay at this lovely hotel—hopefully in the not-too-distant future.

We enjoyed two nights here and thoroughly enjoyed the rooms, the service, the happy hour and the exceptional help by the reception staff especially Roberta who went above and beyond to recommend things to do and see in Lugano. We gave a lesser score for the location as this hotel is very close to a busy noisy train station which is also undergoing night works.

Located in Montarina, a small town in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, the Hostel Montarina is a great place to stay if you're looking for a budget-friendly option. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and there's free parking on site. The pool is nice too, and the shared kitchen is perfect for grabbing some breakfast or dinner before heading out exploring.
We ended up booking this accommodation as this is the only one that’s left. A bit pricey but you’re in Switzerland so it’s expected. Location is not easy to find but we got there in the end. Women: AVOID THIS HOSTEL Unsafe and Unacceptable Experience I stayed at this hostel in a female dorm. In the middle of the night, I was awoken by a man sitting on my bed and molesting my feet. Afterward, I learned from two other women in the room that the same man had also done this to them. The most alarming part is that neither the dorm room door nor the door leading directly outside were locked, which is most likely how this random man was able to enter so easily. The man seemed comfortable in doing this, I would guess that he is a local who knows which dorms are the female dorms, and that the doors which open directly from the street into the dorms are usually unlocked. This is not a matter of comfort—it’s a serious issue of safety. Guests, and especially women, should not have to fear being assaulted while sleeping in a hostel bed. I strongly urge the management to fix their security immediately. Until then, I cannot recommend this hostel to anyone.

Rooms are reasonably clean. The garden is gorgeous! Breakfast very good. But the best part is the staff, they are so friendly, patient and helpful! Our car got on the stair cases and couldn’t move, a staff helped us move the car in the heavy rain, we wanted to go back to thank him but couldn’t find him only after 30 seconds. We really appreciate his kind help!

They suddenly decided to kick us(group of 5 ) out of the hostel 2 hours before our arrival after saying that they would accept us for a month. I am highly disappointed as we had no backup plan, and don't understand how a hostel could have such bad organisation. Would not recommend
Anouk — Google review
Like the vibe and atmosphere, but the furniture is a bit old and not so well maintained.
Jay C — Google review
The rooms don’t even have towels und you need to pay them extra. In addition the service don’t really want to interact with you and also the location is hard to get with car and also by feet because of the high ground. But positively there is a awesome pool and the yard looks beautiful. But if you want to more than 2 days, I wouldn’t recommend you this hostel by far!

43Hotel Acquarello Swiss Quality

Hotel
Hotel Acquarello Swiss Quality is a casual downtown property located in the heart of Lugano, offering simple yet comfortable accommodations with cozy cafe/bar and scenic lake views. The hotel provides easy access to the city center and direct connection to the station with the cable car. Guests can enjoy various amenities including a sauna, fitness center, and bicycle rentals. The rooms are clean and spacious, equipped with air conditioning, although some noise from the nearby cable car stop may be noticeable.
You simply can’t beat the value for money this hotel offers. The location is unbeatable — right next to the funicular that connects directly to the Lugano main SBB station (and possibly other destinations, though I only used it for the station). There’s also a wide variety of restaurants and shops just steps from the hotel. Despite its compact size, the hotel has a great little gym, and my room — which faced the funicular — was surprisingly quiet. I slept like a baby! If you're a light sleeper, the hotel thoughtfully provides earplugs and a welcome chocolate in the room. A really nice touch: I received the Ticino Ticket by email on the day of arrival, giving me free access to most public transportation and discounts at various attractions. But what truly made my stay exceptional was the incredibly friendly and helpful staff at the front desk. Thank you all for your kindness, thoughtful touches, and excellent recommendations — you made my visit even more memorable! Breakfast is typical Swiss. It's not a complaint, just a note for other travellers :) Expect cheese, cold cuts, croissants, bread, good choice of fruits and yogurts.

My room on the fifth floor was quite noisy due to the funicular railway that runs until 11:30pm. I believe other rooms are quieter, but the noise can be a problem. The room was small but modern, and the bed was quite comfortable. The breakfast was good and varied. The staff were friendly. The best thing is definitely the central location. Good value for money, but I would go elsewhere if you are a light sleeper.
Francesco G — Google review
Very conveniently situated hotel for exploring the city and public transport links to other parts. There are many restaurants etc., nearby. Hotel room and hotel in general was very clean. Breakfast had a good variety. Staff are friendly and helpful. When we first arrived the lady checking us in noticed it was my mom’s special birthday the following day and wisher her a happy birthday. A bottle of Prosecco was left for her in the room with a nice note. Would happily stay here again and recommend it to others.
Caroline P — Google review
An unfortunate first impression at check in with a receptionist that can’t smile, say hello or thank you. Quite a drab welcome. A ‘quaint’ property if you’re being nice. Rustic and outdated if you’re being honest. Could be overlooked if the service was friendly and charming, but this is absent. Bathroom door doesn’t lock! Very problematic with 5 people. Breakfast lackluster. Beds not so comfortable. Very small rooms. All perhaps more easily overlooked had the staff at least been charming.
Dub-Rizzo — Google review
Enjoyed visiting beautiful Lugano and having great time in this hotel. Nice spotlessly clean room and bathroom, very polite and friendly staff.Great location in the city centre.

Americans beware that this hotel does not show Fox News; but, they are happy to poison the mind with CNN. I will not return.
Jaime — Google review
Hotel is directly below the funicular so it is extremely convenient. However, it can be tricky to find. When you get off the funicular; turn right immediately don’t go down the hill. pass the jungle plants and you will see the sign to enter. Breakfast is very hearty. Also the funicular runs right through the hotel from very early to very late. If you are a light sleeper bring headphones, you will hear and feel it coming through.

The Hotel Nassa Garni offers stunning lake views, a reception area and a number of comfortable rooms. Some with balconies. It is located in the heart of Lugano, making it an ideal choice for visitors looking for a convenient base to explore this beautiful part of Switzerland.
Great staff, wonderful view from balcony room. Clean hotel but outdated furnishings. A great value if staying in lugano. Location is excellent.
Daniel D — Google review
The best thing about this hotel is the perfect location. It's directly at the city center and at the lake side. The hotel is very old (like most at this area) but the rooms were clean, the bed comfy. You can find basic amenities. The breakfast was very modest. The staff very friendly and helpful. We stayed only one night, therefore it was OK.
Melanie H — Google review
The hotel was in an absolutely stunning location. It was wonderful to wake up with the sunrise gently touching our faces and to step straight out into the morning sun for a walk along the lake. The service was excellent as well, and the reception gave us great advice on places to visit. Overall, a truly memorable stay.
Jere N — Google review
We stayed in July for 2 days, and it was a very good experience. The view from the balcony was excellent, and the main advantage of this hotel is its location—it’s right in the city center, making it easily accessible to all major places. The staff members were very nice and polite, and the breakfast was good. Overall, we truly enjoyed both the place and our stay. Highlights: • Great location in the city center • Excellent balcony view (Check this option before booking) • Polite and friendly staff • Good breakfast
Nandakumar S — Google review
The best thing about this hotel is the location. It's right in the center and facing the lake. Although, we felt like the price wasn't fair comparing to the room we had because it was kind of old and we didn't have the view to the lake. It has some amenities included, but they aren't truthful about all of them. There's a list of all amenities in a folder that implying that water is free, when we asked, the receptionist told us we'd have to buy it from the fridge at the reception. The staff was very welcoming and kind to us, though.
Annabelle S — Google review
Very disappointed in this hotel, all looked good walking towards the entrance as we passed neighbouring high end retailers. We walked in to a tiny foyer and checked in. Told if we want anything from the mini bar we had to come down to reception snd collect from the fridge. When going to the 1st floor we crammed into a 3 person lift which only 2 of us barely fit into (and we aren't big people). On entering our room we immediately noticed the voices coming through the walls which continued through the nights along with the barking of a small dog from a joining room. There were no drinks making facilities, no iron, not enough power points, poor and dated decor, the shutters and curtains didn't shut any light out at all and many other things that made us think we'd always choose somewhere else over this hotel. It was also very expensive. If I'd been looking for a hostel it would have been perfect. Breakfast was also very poor. Positive point: the view from the window over the lake.
DAVE S — Google review
We had the pleasure to be welcomed by David (day) and Ivano (evening). Their customer service is impeccable and very inviting. The location is central to everything. The third floor terrace room has an astonishing view toward lake Lugano. Furniture and bathroom are dated but serviced our needs. We appreciated having a refrigerator and AC in the room. Breakfast is continental and was ok for us. We definitely recommend this hotel and hope to be back.

Guests can enjoy the spa facilities and dine at the hotel's restaurant. The chic and sophisticated ambiance created by the stylish decor adds an elegant touch to any stay. The attentive staff goes above and beyond to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for guests.
I stayed at this hotel earlier this month, and it was a truly wonderful experience. The hotel is quiet, beautiful, and conveniently located near everything. The staff were excellent—I didn’t have to wait even one minute at reception as everything was already prepared. The room was very clean, and the team works hard around the clock to ensure guests are comfortable. The hotel manager is a fantastic person, and his friendly dog added a warm and welcoming touch to the stay. Breakfast was delicious and varied, and the best part is that they offer to serve it in your room at no extra charge—such a thoughtful service! I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely return in the future.

Our group stayed here for a couple of nights and it was really hard to leave — we loved the place! While the hotel itself looks a bit on the smaller side, the rooms were very spacious, beautifully designed, and full of natural light, giving a very inviting feel. The staff were welcoming, always smiling, and we truly appreciated their hospitality and kindness. We also enjoyed the thoughtful touches like complimentary drinks at a time of our choice and a discount for dinner at the hotel restaurant — which turned out to be absolutely delicious.

Truly outstanding service – I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely come back again. 🙏

What a beautiful hotel. Room had an amazing view. Drive to Lugano was 10 minutes. Owners and staff were amazing. Owner was washing the Maserati of a ‘customer.’ :) We ate in the Vali restaurant both nights of our stay and it was exquisite. Sorry for waiting so long to review. We will be back. Thank you for bottle opener as every time I use of it I think of our amazing stay. Stephen

The location is very nice very near to the water its pretty. The rooms are big and spacey at least the 5th floor ones. The breakfast is okay but the service is so nice. The reception staff at night was very unfriendly he got angry and annoyed at any question we asked. But otherwise chill hotel

Nestled in Lugano, the Bigatt Hotel & Restaurant offers a cozy and welcoming atmosphere with clean and comfortable rooms. The hotel boasts an outdoor pool, a garden, and a terrace with stunning views of the lake. Guests can enjoy the convenience of private parking and free WiFi. The on-site restaurant serves fantastic meals while the bar offers local drinks for relaxation. Additionally, visitors can explore nearby attractions such as Monte San Salvatore and Art Museum Lugano.
So happy we booked this place! The restaurant was really good, with good wine from the backyard and not too expensive, and we got good recommendations! The room was super quiet, had a good view, good beds and felt luxurious. I was worried it would be too far away from the city, but there is buses every hour and we had a beautiful walk from the train station. So it’s worth it especially since you get a bit more sun during the evening living higher up! An extra plus with the pool! Would recommend this to couples more than families, since the feeling is more romantic and beautiful than maybe practical for kids. Even if I can’t come up with specific reasons why, the staff was super friendly to the only kid that was there, I guess it’s more based on the luxury feeling the hotel has. The breakfast was not so traditional, but amazing! So don’t expect scrambled eggs, but a lot of high quality small dishes, and home made sweets. The only question we have is why it’s only has 3-stars? This was nicer the all the 4-stars hotels I been to!
Hanna K — Google review
If you are looking for a tranquil environment, clean room, beautiful scenery, delicious food, and a stunning pool, you must visit Bigatt Hotel. We have an excellent experience and will be returning! The breakfast buffet includes bread, pastries, eggs, cheeses, meats, fruit, cereals, yogurt, and fresh coffee. It kept us full for our entire hike up the mountain behind the hotel. Dinner was also delicious! Things to note- make sure you check the bus schedule ahead of time if you are coming via public transit. Some days the 434 bus only comes once an hour. They do have pool towels for use during the stay. There was not conditioner provided in the rooms (which was fine for me but just a heads up!).

Spacey room, comfortable bed, good service, clean. Nice quiet swimming pool with sunbading area. Also proper parking garage. Great breakfast. Very nice hotel.

Nice rooms and great staff. Breakfast was reasonably good. Location is ok if you are arriving by a car. Our room was really hot and air conditioning not seemed powerful enough to cool it down. Beds are too soft for my liking.

Property is stunning, rooms are big (not to mention hardwood floors vs carpet!), facility and rooms are very clean, beautiful pool area and the dining terrace is the highlight with it’s view! Staff is very friendly and it’s a quick 10 min drive to Lugano’s center. We enjoyed our stay and hope we can be back!!

Certainly my current choice when visiting Lugano both for pleasure or business, this small elegant hotel is nicely positioned on the hill overlooking Lugano, if the weather is nice you have the options to get a drink or lunch outside, a true bonus. In alternative enjoy the pool, quite elegant with the view on the vineyards.

Lugano Airport, located just 4km (2.5 miles) west of the town, offers regular flights to Swiss destinations and some seasonal European routes. The airport is known for its efficiency and small size, allowing travelers to arrive just half an hour before their flight and still have time to enjoy amenities like a bar with free fast wifi. Despite its small size, the airport provides friendly service and a clean environment.
Ensure you visit the beautiful city of Lugano and enjoy the beautiful sunrise and sunset by the waters, though a bit chilly, but nature is just so beautiful! You can never go wrong visiting Switzerland. The country is calm and courteous.

The modern and spacious suites feature amenities such as flat-screen satellite TVs, minibars, and kitchenettes with Nespresso coffee makers. The bathrooms are equipped with hairdryers and Fragonard toiletries. This charming guesthouse exudes a cozy atmosphere and is known for its warm hospitality provided by the owner, Cristina.
I can not say enough good things about this place. First of all, it is in an incredibly beautiful location next to the city, hiking trails, boat taxi's etc. The guest house itself is absolutely charming and lovely. The rooms are large, inviting, and have an incredibly home like feel to them. Bathrooms are great and Christina is so welcoming. She prepares these amazing breakfasts and loves getting to know her guests. This place is well worth what you pay for, and my husband and I would definitively stay here again.

Guesthouse Castagnola is a small gem in the beautiful city of Lugano. Nestled in the tiny little village of Castagnola, minutes for the city centre, the Bed & Breakfast offers an incredibly romantic experience. The rooms are elegantly furnished, minimal with Nordic style and a touch of characteristic architecture of the region. The host is a lovely lady who knows what she is doing. She is an incredible baker and the breakfasts are abundant with homemade bread, cedar jams, local honey, croissants, fresh fruits and locally harvested herbs for healthy teas. The location offers splendid walks near the lake of Lugano, old roads that cross fabulous mansions with blooming gardens. It is a true dream of romance, good food, quite and relaxing time. Thank you so much Kristina, we had a wonderful time and we will surely come back ❤️💫 Highly recommend 🙌

My stay here was so lovely and magical! It has been a year since we stayed and I can still taste those incredible, fresh, warm croissants! There wasn’t a single detail that went overlooked. While there is no air conditioning, it rarely gets hot enough to warrant needing more than an open window and fans, which were readily available. And again, the croissants!!! Best croissants I’ve had, in my life, to this day. Hosts were incredibly kind and friendly, but also respected our space and privacy. They made sure we knew how to reach them should we need anything at all. Very knowledgeable on things to see and do in the area as well as fantastic recommendations for transportation and restaurants. My favorite meal in my 2 months stay in Switzerland was at a restaurant from their highly recommended suggestions and it was perfect!!!

Lovley place to stay at. 4 different rooms which are more like suites or apartments. Beautifully decorated in a soft and calm tone. The Swedish owner is very welcoming and can advice on what to do in the area. Wonderful breakfast. In the middle of the pittoresque village Castagnola. Quiet area. A couple of minutes down to the lake. Hiking trails and walks along the lake are also just a few minutes away. I will definitely return.

I highly recommend this acommodation. Taken care of by the family, they pay high care to detail, both for decoration and practicity. The location is very good too, a relaxed area but very close to the city center. It offers a feeling of being at home. The place smells incredibly due to a huge atention to cleanliness and the plants with flowers around the room. The soaps also were very special (all of them). The linens, bath robe, towels, etc are of high quality. The breakfast (with several options) can fill your stomach until dinner if you wish.
Mario P — Google review
Everything and more you can expect from a cosy Bed & Breakfast at the old center of Castagnola, with the lakeside and public transport within a short reach! Tastefully furnished bed room and bath room, a small yet comfy backyard garden, all day long smelling like the jasmine blossoms covering the walls. Breakfast is served at a house across the street - again, very tasteful interior and great quality of the fresh products served by the lovely staff. This place got everything right and can be recommended wholeheartedly.

We LOVED our stay at Guesthouse Castagnola and Kristina took such good care of us that we hope to visit again at some point. Our room was beautifully decorated, the shower was awesome, the bed was extremely comfortable and the surrounding just awes with pure charm. The breakfast was the cherry on the cake with 100% dedicated service (thanks to Covid) and we even took the two free paddle boards out to enjoy a swim on the lake 5 min walk away.
