Lookouts
Monte San Salvatore is a landmark peak that offers a mountaintop village with stunning views of the lake, hiking trails, and a cable car for easy access. Nearby attractions include Monte Bre, Gotthard Pass, and the ancient Olive Trail for walking or cycling enthusiasts. The area also boasts river rafting opportunities and cultural wonders in Bellinzona, Gandria, and the San Grato Botanical Park.
Mount San Salvatore is an absolute must-visit for anyone seeking breathtaking panoramic views of Lugano. We opted to hike the trail to the summit, and we highly recommend this choice. The approximately 7-kilometer trek is filled with stunning scenery at every turn, showcasing the diverse landscapes and lush greenery of the region. While the funicular provides a quick route to the top, hiking allows you to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty, making for a more intimate and memorable experience. Along the way, you'll encounter charming viewpoints that invite you to pause and take in the surroundings. Reaching the summit is incredibly rewarding, as you'll be treated to sweeping vistas of Lake Lugano and the surrounding mountains. It's a perfect spot for photography or simply soaking in the tranquility. For those interested, there are also nearby cafés where you can relax and enjoy a refreshment. Overall, hiking Mount San Salvatore is not just an adventure; it’s a journey that enriches your appreciation for this beautiful region.
Csaba B — Google review
One of my favourite place. The view was breathtaking from the top. We took the funicular and changed in another funicular to the peak. We got charged cfh50 for 1 adult and 3 kids for return and chf47 for one way with ticino tickets discount which i think is not right. We decided to walked all the way down. Not recommended with young children.
Chan T — Google review
Must visit here. Trek will take at least 2 hours. Or use the funicular. Runs every 30 mins. I saw some children and parents climbing the trek. They did well.
Claire T — Google review
Monte San Salvatore is an absolute must-do if you're in the Lugano area. I went up on a day when the weather wasn't ideal, so the visibility wasn't perfect, but the experience was still incredible. The funicular ride up is a treat in itself, offering some great views on the way. Once you get to the top, it's easy to see why this spot is so famous. The panoramic view is simply stunning. Even with bad visibility, you get a beautiful perspective of Lugano, the sparkling lake, and the surrounding mountains. The feeling of being up there, with that vast landscape stretched out before you, is truly special, it's incredibly peaceful and awe-inspiring. I could have spent hours just soaking it all in. There are also a couple of restaurants at the top, and a short walk to a church that's worth checking out. If you're looking for a relatively easy trip with a massive payoff in terms of scenery and a feeling of pure tranquility, this is the place. I highly recommend it.
Μάριος — Google review
We wanted to see the famous San Salvatore and we loved the amazing view. It is breathtaking. Especially that the weather was amazing. Yet, we found the funicular too expensive. Once you are up, we can take a picnic and seat there to enjoy the view or you can eat at the restaurant. If you like to hike, then I would recommend to walk all the way down (2h approx).
Davina D — Google review
Worth visiting, funicular is going up every 30 minutes and it's 50% with the Swiss Travel Pass or some other discount tickets. You can also hike all the way up, it is approximately 2 hours of hiking. Lovely view of the lakes and the region, Lugano is also worth exploring especially during summer.
Azer J — Google review
In order to get here you need to reach Paradiso Stazione and then take the funicular, the ticket for which is 32 CHF return (Ticino cards offer discounts). The funicular is every 30 minutes. The view to Monte San Salvatore is absolutely stunning and what I like the best is that the place is accessible for elderly people who have difficulties walking. Before getting here you may want to check any of the web cams available online to see if weather is suitable. When you get off at the upper station of the funicular the distance you need to walk to the main viewing platform is not more than 5-10 min. There is a cafe there. From there you can do a short trek (20 min. the most) and you can reach a church. Climb the stairs and you will have a magnificent view.

Amazing views. Fun hike down to Melide. (Proper hiking shoes necessary, poles can be useful.)

Parco Ciani is a sprawling and exquisite park located in Lugano, offering stunning views of Lake Lugano. It is known for its manicured lawns, charming pathways, and lush greenery. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls through the park, taking in the picturesque surroundings and finding peaceful spots to relax. The park features colorful flower beds, statues, fountains, and historic landmarks such as Villa Ciani.
Beautiful park with lovely nature. It’s completely free and you can take amazing photos. It’s got some sweet colorful flowers and lots of trees. There is a small portion where you could take a little swim in the lake, perfect for a warm day of summer
Emanuela F — Google review
Parco Ciani is a delight to visit anytime of the year but particularly during the blossoming summer and spring months with all the colorful flowers and clear refreshing lugano lake that looks like a scene out of a fairy tale dream. The place is family friendly, yet very romantic and has all the amenities visitors might need from free public toilets which are clean and usable, to gelato and coffee sellers during good weather ... its a place to relax and unwind at the very heart of the beautiful city of lugano overlooking its majestic lake.
Amr A — Google review
So beautiful and colourful! You can spencer the whole day there! Mountains, łąkę, flowers, palm trees in the park. Places where you can sit and just admire what is around you! At the beginning of July the water in the łąkę was very warm🙂
Marta C — Google review
I really enjoyed visiting the park, it was a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was calm and welcoming, making it the perfect place to relax. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful spot to spend some time.
Alina N — Google review
Lovely park, magnificent scenery right on the beautiful lake with plenty of flowers. Don’t miss while in Lugano.
Amit O — Google review
Absolutely beautiful park with views towards Lugano lake. You can rest on a bench and admire the nature. The park is well maintained with flowers and green grass. Ducks are wandering. No entrance fee. Close to the park entrance is a gate where lots of people stop and take pictures. Beware of homeless people - we had interaction with one asking for money but he was not dangerous.
Яна Т — Google review
Nice park with a beautiful view. We visited during a city festival, so there were a lot of little events happening at the same time across the whole park and the rest of the city. Really cool experience overall.

Located in the village of Melide, between Lugano and Morcote, Swissminiatur is a family-friendly attraction established in 1959. The open-air museum spans 14,000 square meters and showcases 128 miniaturized versions of Switzerland's landmarks including the Heidi Village, castles like Burgdorf and Chillon, and the Federal Parliament in Bern. Visitors can also witness 18 model trains running on approximately 3.
Super cute place to go walk around and get a glimpse of “Switzerland”. Great for kids to enjoy too they have a cafe and a gift shop as well as a ride on train. Super cute good for the money. You can spend as little or as long as you want there
Kami P — Google review
This is worth a visit. The kids liked it. It's not big, but it's great for 1-3 hours. It has a food station and nice cool-down water mist everywhere, as it can get hot without the shade. I expected a bit more due to the rating, but I'd still recommend it if you haven't been. There is also a small train that kids loved and an arcade where you can play all kinds of games. Also bring your swimsuits for after, Melide is beautiful and has a Lifo next to it, ot even walking 10 more minutes, an almost private strand we enjoyed and swam afterwards.
Simon — Google review
Swissminiatur is a must-visit—especially for families and travelers like me who are interested in learning more about Swiss history and culture. The place is very well-curated and organized, with plenty of infographics available in English. There’s so much to see that we actually lost track of which areas we’d already visited, but it’s easy to find your way around with the map. They truly did an amazing job creating this miniature version of Switzerland! It inspired us to visit and discover more of the country’s cantons in the future. Just to add, there’s also a café, restaurant, and ice cream shop inside. The staff are very kind and accommodating too, which made the visit even better. We went on a weekday, and since it was a rainy day, there weren’t many people around. It actually made the visit even more relaxing. We got to explore at our own pace and take photos without the crowd.
BA — Google review
Great fun. We spent almost 90 minutes walking round here to see everything it has to offer. Lots of models of places of interest in Switzerland, with trains running throughout the whole display. Make sure you hang around the bobsleigh model for a few minutes to see it in action.
Rob F — Google review
Great park to visit with your children, with the condition to not be in a rainy day as everything is outside. They have a snack and a small shop inside. Very close to the train station. You can get a discount with the Ticino ticket provided by your hotel, plus with this Ticino ticket you get free train trips so no need to take the car.
Dan G — Google review
Not to miss if you go to Ticino! Been there as a kid and now with my kids. Amazing replicas of Swiss landmarks, a great way for discovering next trip ideas and spend an afternoon wondering in a beautiful place learning about Switzerland and appreciating the work of passionate craftsmenship.

Lake Lugano is a glacial mountain lake and resort town offering various activities such as passenger and private boat rides, dining, and shopping. The 5-star Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola sits right on the shores of the lake, surrounded by a private subtropical park. The hotel features an indoor pool, tennis court, and three restaurants serving Mediterranean dishes made from fresh seasonal ingredients. Originally a noble Russian family's home, the mansion was transformed into a hotel in 1885.
It was great, because the weather was perfect, nice and sunny. If you visit Lugano, make sure you go on a sunny day. You can rent motorboats and pedalos, but you also can just enjoy a strole around the lake.

Lake Lugano is a very scenic place for a day trip. It is located near the border of Italy and Switzerland. Hence, the architecture there are so Italian and even the locals, they speak Italian. Very special!

An absolutely stunning and FREE botanical garden with breathtaking panoramic views at almost every turn. A must if you love nature and quiet!

Great park on top of the mountain. Very nice temperature difference than down on the lake, for a great escape from the heat. There are some play structures, a zip line, swings for the kids, some walking paths, sculptures, botanical gardens for the adults. Very enjoyable and educational as well. There are also locations for picnics and grilling, but camping and lighting fires is prohibited. There are a number of public water fountains as well with clean and fresh tasting water. The scenic overlook offers a great view. The panoramic trail however is long and arrives at the top where there is only a weather station and no view. The walk in the wood though is very pleasant and non technical, although there are some slight grades.
Christopher M — Google review
The most amazing view we could have gotten in Lugano region. Can see a huge portion of the lake and coast. The garden is also absolutely stunning. Clean and well kept with prestine public WC.

Nice place to visit if you wanna see the beautiful view of Lake Lugano. It was not so easy going up as the path we took was the narrow one, you need to watch your step as there are some roots of the trees and rocks..but if you are to up to some little challenge then definitely worth it. There are some benches you can take a rest and enjoy the view.
Christina P — Google review
The botanical garden of San Grato offers unique natural characteristics, but also an exceptional panoramic view on the immediate surroundings and on the peaks of the alpine chain. Visiting the park you’ve got the sensation of entering an enchanted world, where colors and odors of azaleas, camellia and rhododendrons make you feel unforgettable emotions. The park lies behind the majestic Monte San Salvatore on 690 meters on the charming peninsula just 10km from Lugano. It belongs to the municipality of Carona that towers above the Lake. The park is situated in an exceptional position from a scenery point of view. The park with a size of 62000 square meters has the greatest collection of azaleas, rhododendrons and conifers in Insubria, in terms of variety and quantity. The park is also a great place to stop during the hike from Monte San Salvatore, through Carona with its picturesque hamlet to Morcote, and for mountain bikers needing a break after some single trails on the peninsula. In the center of the park there is a restaurant that offers delicious meals, accompanied by an authentic smile and a great view. Carona can also be reached by public transport from Lugano in just 20 minutes. (Ticino.ch)

Churches & Cathedrals
Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angioli is a small Catholic church with a bell tower and frescoes in the nave. Its construction began in 1499, and it features a more modest facade compared to Lugano Cathedral. However, it is home to some of Switzerland's most renowned Renaissance artwork, including 'Passion and Crucifixion' by Bernardo Luini, a disciple of Leonardo da Vinci.
A beautiful church with very old (medieval) frescoes. A must visit while in Lugano. Can be visited daily but not during the masses or concerts. Masses are at 5.30pm on Saturday and 10:30am and 5pm on Sundays. Before the mass on Saturday at 5pm and mass on Sunday at 4:30pm there's an organ concert of classical music for free. The church is open every day from 8:30am till 6pm. There's a lot written in the church to explain the frescoes or one can book a guided tour.
Agnes W — Google review
I visited Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angioli mainly for the famous fresco and it truly lived up to the hype. The artwork by Bernardino Luini took my breath away. From the outside it looks simple, but inside, it’s unforgettable.

Location is Awesome but not well maintained compared to other Churches in Lugano... But the view from the roof is the main attraction...Top view of Lugano is just awesome.... Every one should visit if you are visiting Lugano..

Beautiful church. You'll be surprised when you hear the story about the paintings inside
Alberto M — Google review
If you enjoy art, do not miss the most significant Renaissance fresco in Switzerland within the Santa Maria degli Angioli church (cornerstone laid in 1499). Painted by a local artist Bernardino Luini (b1480) in 1529, just three years before he died. The church contains a description (in Italian) outlining the meaning of the different figures in this wall size fresco. This church was founded by Reformed Followers of St. Francis beginning with Brother Silvesti in 1439 during a tumultuous time for the region. Problems included the ongoing fight between the Guelphs & Ghibellines (Pope Supporters vs Roman Emperor supporters), the territorial disputes between aristocrats and the onset of the plaque. The church is not encrusted with gold but rather embodies a calmness one usually associates with the divine. For that and providing written historical context to educate the visitor, I gave it 5 starts
Nancylee S — Google review
Absolutely stunning views and the most quaint little church. Would recommend the visit and a visit inside the church. We were very privileged to see how Italian people live in this stunning place.

Home to the most famous Renaissance fresco in Switzerland painted by Bernardino Luini; who studied under Leonardo da Vinci. The church itself was built in 1499-1500.

Ordered la Pinza with extras and asked for well backed. Got it almost cold. The whole service is very rude if you dont speak Italian. Expensive and rude. Very nice centre! Super SPA and Splash! Very friendly staff! Nice and clean. Highly recommended!

Good experience with a little thing that should be changed. Friendly staff, the woman at the entrance even spoke good English! Enough parking space (1fr per hour, 5fr max), and enough beds to put down the towels. We visited the swimming pools and slides, but there is also a separate spa area! The slides are awesome! 7 different ones, most are exciting for most ages (small children are not allowed in some slides). Everything is clean. At the entrance you get a small wristband that you can use to pay for drinks and food (a lot to choose from), it is also used to open/close your locker. One small thing: no staff is present at the top of the stairs, where all more exciting slides are. Sometimes there are traffic jams, which could have been solved easily by someone from the staff. And when the elevator that brings the yellow bands to the top was broke for half an hour, no one came up to explain. So we stood there waiting for nothing. Tip: the standard time to visit is 4 hours, but extending your visit is only 2fr per person per half hour, so it's not very expensive!
Thijs R — Google review
I was not aware of this place and got to find it coincidentally yesterday and today we went there immediately with my kids. We bought the tickets beforehand to make sure we have our spot. The tickets are being sold upon availablity which I think is a great system. Like this they avoid overcrowding the pools. The person at the entrance was very kind and helpful with our check-in. The changing rooms are nice, large, bright enough but also discreet enough with a massive number of lockers. There are hair dryer stations with enough dryers. The big pools are on the top floor. One pool is with tidal wave which 8 guess starts every 30 minutes and lasts for 10-15 minutes. There are also outdoor pools with bubble sessions and the best pool is the one with a bar where you can sit in a warm pool and sip your drink. There is also a restaurant with proper food, not jumk food. For instance we had a plate of rice with chicken curry and a plate of lasagne. One floor below you can walk to the slides. Great slides! Single slides, single slides with a mat, doubles slides and one slide for up to four people. The explanations by the slides are very detailed and understandable for everyone. The Spa part we have not visited but it seems like it's a big area. What you also find on the top floor is an area for little kids and a hammam. To be honest it was a great day in a great pool palace.

We had a great time! We were on a Tuesday so it wasn't crouded. The facilities are very good. Lot's of toilets and showers. Many pools to choose from. The slides are great fun and there was no line. Food is OK and you have a lot of choices. Comparing to Switzerland it is not so expensive. Really recommanded. I didn't take picture due to the privacy of other visitors. One thing - Stuff does not always know English and there is no English option in the electronic tickets vending machine.

Great day out. The slides were great. The place was clean. It wasn't very busy- no waits for any slide. Food seemed surprisingly reasonably priced. Highly recommended!

Great place for a day trip and very kid friendly. Strikes the right balance between relaxation and adventure. If you are based in Lugano it is just a 15 min train ride to the nearest train station.

Waterpark was really good (kids from 10 years and up) Food was a bit of a mixed experience (considering the price), drinks was good. (Not considering food it would have been 5 stars) Buy tickets 2-3 days in advance to get better prices.

Magnificent water park! We loved to be there! it's an indoor water park, warm and nice inside, there is a wave pool every 30 minutes(i think) and 2 more pools inside( one of them is warmer)and one more pool that is outside and warm. The children area was so much fun, it has 2 slides and the water sprinklers are hot and nice, our 4 and 1 years old boys had so much fun. The bigger water slides are for big kids (8 years old and above 120 cm) they were very fast, cool and scary because the slide is dark inside. Overall we really enjoyed it and recommand it :-)

Lido di Lugano is a vibrant open-air pool complex and beach area that attracts both locals and tourists. It offers a sandy beach along Lake Ceresio, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a kids' pool with water games, diving pools with high trampolines, beach volleyball court, and a five-a-side football pitch. Additionally, it hosts various leisure activities including open-air cinema in the summer.
The beach is my favorite place to rest in Lugano. It is very close to Parco Ciani. The property is huge and has two entrances. The ticket is CHF 11, payable cash or by credit card. There is a big swimming pool, grass section, beach section with sand and a few food options. If visiting during the weekend be sure to come early morning because it easily gets crowded. No need to rent a sunbed and umbrella - the trees offer shades. There are changing rooms and toilets. The beach has a great view towards the lake and the hills. You can sit and admire the beauty for hours.

This is a great spot to spend a hot summer day! The area is spacious and well-organized, with grassy lawns for relaxing, a pool for the little ones, a pool with diving boards, a mid-depth pool, and a deep pool for serious swimmers. There’s also access to a lovely beach area with soft sand and the chance to swim directly in the lake, which is a real highlight. The only downside is that in the deep pool, people don’t wear swim caps, so there tends to be a lot of hair floating around, sometimes so much that you could get tangled in it. But aside from that, everything else is fantastic. It’s a fun and relaxing place for people of all ages!

Lido di Lugano is an amazing place to spend the day, especially if you have kids. With a variety of pools, including an Olympic-sized one and a children's pool, there's something for everyone. We loved the large grassy areas for relaxing, and the sandy beach is a huge bonus. It's a fantastic spot with great amenities, perfect for a fun-filled family day out.

Great place to visit. Kids enjoyed it. Several diving boards, 1m, 3m, 5m and 10m in height. Small swimming pool for kids, and Olympic sized pool. Beach area on the lake. Note, sun loungers and parasols come at an extra cost and deposit. Drinks cups also require a deposit.

Parco Scherrer, also known as the Garden of Wonders, is a must-visit attraction in Lugano for families. This hillside villa offers stunning views of Lake Lugano and features lemon trees, bamboo groves, and classical myth-inspired statues. The park's pathways are lined with water ponds, green spaces, and thick trees, providing an ideal setting for a leisurely stroll. Visitors can relax in the available seating areas while taking in the serene surroundings.
On the exceptional Riva di Pilastri, its charming villas literally feet in the lake and this relaxing and refreshing botanical Scherrer garden which was fitted out by the rich trader Hermann Arthur Scherrer from Saint-Gallen was opened to the public in 1965. Fantastic memories from Morcote ! Priceless

This is such a gem. It’s completely free and it’s absolutely stunning. I’ve got some beautiful pictures here. You should take an hour or two to fully take it in and enjoy it. It was bigger than expected, so that was a nice surprise. If you’re visiting Lugano or you’re near by, it’s worth checking it out.

This is easily one of the best parks I have ever visited. I absolutely loved the unique country and era themes of the various sections of the park. It felt like walking through different historical periods, which made the exploration truly captivating. Despite the exhaustion after returning from the Chiesa Di Santa Maria, the journey through the park was so worthwhile and beautiful. This place is an absolute must-see and I would recommend it to anyone!

A True Gem! Parco Scherrer is an absolute must-see, and the fact that admission is free makes it an even greater find. It's a truly delightful park, located on a slight hill, which offers pleasant walks and beautiful views. The park is very well-maintained and thoughtfully designed, featuring a variety of distinct areas. You'll discover stunningly reconstructed environments, like the beautiful Asian section, that are meticulously cared for. It’s the perfect size—not too large, so you can explore everything without feeling rushed. Every corner of the park is well-arranged and feels like a new discovery. This place truly is a magnificent gem. I highly recommend a visit!

Monte Generoso is a stunning mountain peak near Lugano, offering magnificent panoramic views of the Swiss Alps and Italian plains. The summit features restaurants with breathtaking views of Lake Lugano. One unique attraction is an exhibition by Yuri Catania, showcasing photographic works and 3D virtual creations inspired by the mountain's seasonal colors. Accessible via the scenic Generoso Vetta cogwheel railway from Capolago, this majestic destination is perfect for outdoor excursions from Lugano.
Visiting Monte Generoso was truly an amazing experience! The panoramic view from the top is breathtaking, overlooking lakes and surrounding mountains. The cogwheel train ride to the summit was enjoyable and comfortable, with beautiful scenery along the way. At the top, you can choose between short or long hikes, and there are good restaurants and facilities for a relaxing break. Highly recommended for nature and landscape lovers.

Beautiful views over the entire surroundings, you can see both Italy and Switzerland, as close as Lugano and as far as the Alps and Milan if the weather is right. It is a bit expensive to go up by train but if you have a Swiss Pass you can get a big discount, if you have some strong legs there is also several amazing trails.
César D — Google review
Incredible views from here, you can take the Alpine trail to get here which is very well maintained, the train or the regular hike.
RV — Google review
If you want to catch the funicular, make sure to get to the train station called Capolago-Riva San Vitale (15 away from Lugano, train S10) and then buy your ticket (the earlier you get there, the better). After fourty minutes you will have reached the last stop called Generoso Vetta. There are trails to hike, a magnificent view (climb all the way to the summit and you will get to see Milano)...and let us not forget the Fiore di Pietra by Mr. Botta. This is not open the whole year so you better check before heading there.

HEAVEN ON EARTH. This place is paradise. Photos won’t do justice on how amazing this place is. Switzerland is really beautiful! Breathtaking Monte Generoso :)

One can either walk up or down. Or you can use the funicular train to go up or down. They also have a special steam train version. You pick up the funicular train at Capolago Riva S. Vitale station.

If you want to enjoy a 360 deg panorama in Swiss and Italian alps, Lakes and flat land… this is a place to go. You can enjoy the comfortable railway from Switzerland (from Capolago) or climb the trails from different sides, including some enchanting ski touring patterns. Had the chance to be at the summit at new years night… and the show is amazing. The iconic building F iore di Pietra (from Mario Botta) is then offering a good option for whom want to enjoy a dinner near the summit.

Food is good. The attendants are caring. I like the seafood tomato sauce penne. But I do think the veal steak was overcooked and overcharged (around CHF 40 I remember). Good to be at this restaurant but I don’t think I’ll come again.

Loved everything about this place. The food, the atmosfere, servise. Everything was quick and proffesional. Very authentic. Vine was amazing, we tried Prosseco Doc and Riesling, both were perfect, not too sweet, not too dry. Food was great, my spagheti was something out of this word. Steak was absolutely stunning, and the sea food was spot on. I would recommend this place to my friends and family with no doubt.

The moment you step out of the the tram, Lugano is breathtakingly beautiful! Amazing mountain and lake views, clean air, and pretty streets, we came to Galleria and had their Seafood Risotto and Crudo e Mascaporne Pizza, and it does not disappoint. The seafood risotto is laced with clams, mussels, and octopus, on a generous bed of carnaroli, each bite is bursting with seafood umami, and crunchy on the outside but soft inner carbs to die for. Pizza is italian style crispy, and full of Parma ham, and creamy cheese, a big round serving that can be enjoyed by 2! Before you head south to Chiasso, Como, Milan, this is the sneak preview of many wonderful italian cuisines coming your way!

For those seeking night fun, there are various options nearby such as El Mojito Tropical Lounge for fancy cocktails, Al Lido for pre-club gatherings, and Belle Epoque Bar where you can enjoy live piano entertainment.
We like the Grand Cafe so much we went three times while in Lugano! The chocolate croissant was one of the best I've had in Europe and my niece said the cream croissant was the best she's ever had! We ordered the European hot chocolate and regular hot chocolate both with whipped cream. They were delicious! We also had a mango and chocolate mouse dessert that was divine. The interior isnart deco and very inviting. The staff is friendly and efficient.

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Lake Lugano, Grotto Ticinese offers a delightful escape into the heart of local cuisine. 🍖🧆🍮 Typical Grotto Ticinese with barbecue grill in the main room (meat is grilled in front of you). Nice atmosphere, staff were super attentive and kind and the food was good (tried a superb brasato with polenta). Wine of the grotto not special but served in the typical small ceramic cup. The food was excellent, but when we were leaving I was pressured to leave a tip. I said no multiple times but the waiter kept repeating that I needed to leave a tip then added a 15% tip for himself. I asked a Swiss friend about this and they told me that behavior should not be tolerated and likely happened due to us being tourists. Edit: I wasn’t given any contact info, but the bill was 54 CHF and the tip he added on was 6, so it was actually 9%. I said no multiple times but then he went and did it anyway.

Canvetto Federale in Lugano-Paradiso is a charming restaurant with a typical Ticino style, offering top-quality Italian cuisine at fair prices. The establishment is known for its excellent saddle of roe deer and abundant, delicious dishes. Guests praise the friendly and knowledgeable staff, particularly the new manager Nando, who provides top-notch wine recommendations. The warm welcome and inviting atmosphere make diners feel right at home.
Went there yesterday for a Sunday lunch with my friends. The food is delicious. They put the best ingredients together to serve you tasty typical meals. Very generous portions and a quick and professional service. If you want to dine with fondue chinoise, you need to let them know when you reserve your table.

I was a fan of this place as we already ate here last year (Oct.2023). The fine lady who served us was very professional, courteous, and gave us quite good selection of wine and desserts to try. Exquisite food, beautiful place, and superb service were the reasons why we decided to dine here once again. Unfortunately, this year we weren’t quite pleased. My boyfriend and I decided to have here our anniversary dinner. He called 2 days prior for dinner reservation and ordered in advance the Sella di Capriolo con contorni. We arrived on time (18:30) and we were the first guests/customers in the resto. My bf reminded the waiter about our reserved order, and ordered his costine con Patatine together w/1 can of soda and a glass of one of the best red wines they could offer. As soon as the waiter arrived, the wine’s already on the glass without even showing or telling us what that was, and was even rushing to serve us (almost spilled the coke, yet no customers were still present that time). We waited for ALMOST AN HOUR, there were already 4 tables w/their dinner being served (we heard some of them were ordering on the spot and no actual reserved orders beforehand), and still our food hasn’t arrived yet. We have to call for another waiter, and that’s the only time they served our food. The food was not so warm anymore, only states that it’s in the kitchen for quite some time already waiting to be served. The Sella tasted good as ever the first time I tried it, but the costine con Patatine was kinda salty. We decided to shrug it all off so as to enjoy our anniv dinner but the old waiter (even though he’s polite & professional as compared to the first waiter) came back twice BLAMESHIFTING us and justifying why our dinner was served LATE, instead of apologizing for making us wait to almost an hour. To cap off the night, we paid the bill where our change nor even the receipt weren’t even given back. quite a disappointing experience this time. Canvetto Federale’s one of my top fave restaurants in Lugano. I hope they improve their customer service.

Very local grotto a short drive from the centre of Lugano. We enjoyed our meal and found it fairly priced - we had the antipasti platter, T-bone steak to share, the panna cotta and the chocolate torte. Note everything here is in Italian, so if you don't speak the language you will have trouble here. Luckily, my dining partner spoke Italian. However, I felt the service lacked warmth - perhaps it was because I was clearly not local? Either way, a good place to go especially for grilled meats.

Nice atmosphere, covered terrace and stone tables outside, we spent an evening with friends. We all had ribs, too bad they were dry!! We even pointed it out and they didn't pay much attention to us, too bad! Very good French fries as well as desserts. Good salt because there wasn't too much of it. Average price! They offered us a lemon at the cashier. (Original) Grotto tipico luganese ben conosciuto e carino, situato sulla strada cantonale che porta dallo stadio di Lugano a Canobbio. Grotto Teresa is a popular and authentic outdoor kitchen located at the dock. Visitors can enjoy a rustic dining experience with delicious food, pleasant atmosphere, and friendly staff. The grotto is accessible by boat and offers reasonable prices for its unique location. Guests can also explore nearby attractions such as Grotto dei Pescatori, Grotto San Rocco, and the Swiss Miniature Museum in Melida.
After the museum we strolled through the panoramic way in search of a Grotto.. we spotted this one and fell in love all at once! Amazingly friendly and attentive staff (I called him Fabio.. not too sure tho); delicious snackable bruschetta w olives; unfortunately no gazosa limone (became my fav throughout this Ticino Trip); amazing views; lovely interior & decor and decent prices. We LOVED it. Thanks once again!!

The food was too expensive, and it seemed like we got some food that was reheated from scraps from another table. The waiters were all very nice, but they looked tired and we never saw them take a break the entire time we were there (from the afternoon until late night).

Absolutely fantastic place and such amazing food made outside in front of you with the kindest service and such a local feeling with their house wine and sweet original cups and cans for the wine and serving in cheramic and the view is the most beautiful you can ask for with the shade from the trees 🌳 and kids friendly surroundings I can highly recommend this place

One of the most magical and lovely places. We stopped there for lunch at the end of a boat tour of lake Lugano. Food was the best of our trip and everyone who worked there was just lovely. My son got the gnocchi and it was the best we’d ever had. I had the beef and polenta and it was just wonderful. It was authentic and lovely. Would eat there every day if I could. Five stars!!

Lido San Domenico is the perfect spot for a relaxing swim in Lugano. With stunning views of the lake and shore, this swimming area is a must-see for anyone visiting the city. There's also a bar and changing facilities available, making it an ideal place to spend an afternoon or evening.
A small jewel tucked between the lake and the mountain. No beach but a small swimming area where you can swim and cool off. They have a grass area with lounge chairs to relax and a small bar that offers a small selection of food. Not much parking available and it‘s a beautiful 7 min walk from the parking along a small walkway.
Vance C — Google review
Lovely staff members and the food was surprisingly tasty although being fast food. I didn’t like that the entrance was so much for so little you get. Also, they charged the same price for kids as they did the adults. No towels given, so make sure you bring your own. (Could have been in the price, couldn’t it?) The swimming area is also limited but cute with a deck you can swim to. There was a flood in the bathroom which shocked me, but they took care of it pretty fast. Well done.

A great place to chill, enjoy the sun and swim. A very relaxed atmosphere, a nice bar with food and drinks waits for you. It is on the lake has a nice terasse to swim. Kids and families are welcomed.

Roman K — Google review
The good place to chill, to have drinks and to try pizza. Music, staff - everything we liked. Only one small obstacle- not easy to find a parking for the car.
Darius R — Google review
Very laid-back, clean and peaceful Lido. The entrance ist 6 CHF and you can use deck chairs for free (sun beds are 5 CHF/day). They have a great variety of food and beverages (snacks, ice cream, beer, lemonade) and very friendly staff. Changing facilities, showers and toilets available. The view from the lake is stunning and the water is very good. There's a bath supervisor on the premise. You can easily spend a whole day at this place. WiFi ist very good, too.

Found this place when searching for a lido in Lugano that was more secluded and less family orientated and was not disappointed. Has a bar with sandwiches/light meal options- including a veggie/vegan option!- and ice creams, small seating area for this, changing rooms and showers, soft seating like hammocks and a lawn with chairs and umbrellas. As the lido is on a steep side, you can either jump in off the board or use the ladder but there is no shore and you have to commit to getting in! There was also a raft to swim out to. Really enjoyed our visit here. They take cash or card also
RosiWW — Google review
It’s a cozy place, perfect to enjoy hipster vibes. There is plenty of international customers which makes it a rather chill and sociable bar where to hang out. There’s the possibility to swim and get tanned in the sun, play board games, read comics. I could have stayed there the whole afternoon. People from the staff are social. 👍 Payment with credit card are not allowed (September 2018).

Restaurant
Ristorante Vetta San Salvatore, situated on the summit of Monte San Salvatore, offers exceptional cuisine and top-notch customer service. However, the true highlight lies in the breathtaking panoramic vistas it provides. This eatery guarantees a dining experience like no other, with magnificent views of Lake Lugano, Melide's isthmus, Monte Generoso, and even Campione d'Italia across the lake.
If you could enjoy the alps from a distance and 1000 feet up, Vetta San Salvatore is it. Take the funicular up the mountain to find this restaurant, have lunch. Climb further up to see the church.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Ristorante Vetta San Salvatore, and it was a wonderful experience. The staff was incredibly friendly and made me feel very welcome. While the Roast rabbit deboned, served with polenta was just okay, the truly breathtaking views from the restaurant made up for it. I would definitely recommend this place for its amazing scenery and great service.

Parco del Tassino, also known as Tassino Park, is a serene and picturesque escape located just a short walk from Lugano train station. This 21,000-square meter parkland features stunning panoramic views of the mountains and Lake Lugano. The park is adorned with roses, magnolia trees, and an English-style garden, making it a perfect retreat for nature lovers.
Possibly my favorite park at the moment. It’s not as beautiful as Parco Ciani but I like it more because it’s quiet and peaceful. I can enjoy my reading and doing homework without having a lot of people walking around. There’s the beautiful view of the lake and there’s not a lot of people. It’s quite a walk to get there but it’s absolutely my favorite.

Nestled on the picturesque shores of Lake Lugano, the Swiss Customs Museum is a captivating destination that offers a unique glimpse into the world of customs officers and border control. Established in 1935 within a former border-guard barracks, this museum showcases Switzerland's rich history in trade and smuggling through engaging exhibitions spread across three floors. Accessible only by boat, it stands as an architectural gem amidst lush tropical surroundings, making it a must-visit for those exploring Lugano.
This was an amazing surprise! We had little expectation when we looked up museums to visit on a rainy weekday in May. The boat cruise was pleasant and scenic. Upon arriving at the museum, we were greeted by a very friendly and enthusiastic lady who is actually an employee of Swiss customs/border control running the museum near the border of Italy. The museum is well kept, with lots of interesting stories and exhibits over several floors. And much to our surprise: free entry. Unfortunately, we only had an hour until the next boat back to Lugano. But we will be back, next time attempting the hike along the lake! A big thank you to the enthusiastic staff; you are doing a fantastic job!

Free entry, access by boat from the nearest towns, and the customs officer is really nice and will give you a mini tour or have a chat while you wait for the boat back. Worth a visit if you have some free time and are interested in smuggling history

We reached the Museum at 13h and waited 40min for the guard to open it.. (Internet indicate opening hours 13h) He finally arrived by boat, opened the doors, did not apologize or bother too much.. It took him aaaages to arrange the regular ticket vs. The 3D ones.. Then another 20min to get the 3d ones started.. Wow. Never again. The museum itself is not tooo special I must say. We believe that you gather more information through those online series.. 2-3 items were interesting.. and floor nr. 3 - def. The highlight. Not. Overall: the boat trip from Lugano over to the museum side was THE BEST. ;)

When in Lugano, make sure to visit Coop Supermercato City Lugano Food for all your grocery needs. Located at the Lugano Sud Shopping complex, this large supermarket offers a wide selection of products across its 4-5 levels. From Swiss chocolates to souvenirs and gifts, you'll find everything you need here. While prices may be on the higher side, it's a convenient location that's easily accessible from via Nassa and frequented by tourists.
Huge supermarket with decent prices (well, for Swiss prices, that is) and a selection of almost everything you could wish for. Also a good place to stock up with snacks, sweets, drinks if you are travelling and looking for some refreshments. Especially recommended is the restaurant on the top floor - we had a very good horse steak (yes, cavallo) there, with a variety of tasty sides, for around 20 CHF per person. Sounds a bit pricey for a self-service restaurant, but quality is excellent ... and this is Switzerland after all.

Shopping moments in Lake Lugano. Went grocery shopping like the natives. Great experience.
Valerie C — Google review
This store could of been easily a 4 star review. We had an easy time to shop the entire store almost daily for fresh foods/goods, and did enjoyed the fresh sandwiches stand outside. Sandwich staffs were always polite, fast, and easy to pay with USA issued credit cards. "BUT" at the last day of our vacation, at the "Parfumerie" section, while standing quietly in line, waited a long while for the previous customer had trouble to pay for his purchase. We patiently waited for the impatient cashier to help his purchase through his unknown origin credit cards. The cashier decided to open another register and we're completely ignored and overlook by an average 5 feet tale, a female cashier in her 40s. However; the Swiss Italian lady behind us was very nice and told the female cashier to process us first since we've waited a long while for the previous customers. As a long time maga retail store manager in Manhattan, the employee's microaggression behavior towards any customer is due to lack of staff training. But I do recommend visitors to use this Coop Store for fast and convenient purchases while you're visiting. I likely would just revisit the outdoor sandwich team.

The Cornaredo Stadium, home to the Hometurf Football Club Lugano in the Super Ligue, recently hosted a preseason match between Inter Milan and FCLUGANO. Naor C — Google review
Cornaredo was once the pinnacle of sports entertainment in our area, a majestic venue that stood as a beacon of community pride and sporting excellence. With its sturdy structure and electric atmosphere, the arena played host to countless historic games, concerts, and events, cementing its status as a symbol of our vibrant cultural scene. Over the years, Cornaredo welcomed fans with open arms, offering not just seating but an immersive experience that made every spectator feel like a part of something larger. The architecture, though showing its age now, was once ahead of its time, providing unrivaled views and creating unforgettable moments for all who passed through its gates. Unfortunately, time and changing needs have caught up with Cornaredo. Today, the once-bustling venue sits silent and empty, as the process of dismantling begins to make space for a new, modern stadium. It's a moment of mixed emotions, as we bid farewell to a place that held so many memories and moments of shared joy. The new stadium on the horizon promises innovation and a fresh take on sports entertainment, a nod to progress and the evolution of our community's needs. Yet, as we watch Cornaredo Stadium come down piece by piece, it's impossible not to reflect on the history and camaraderie that once echoed through its walls. In its heyday, Cornaredo Stadium was more than just a sports venue; it was a place where dreams took flight, victories were celebrated, and friendships were forged. As we look forward to the future and the promise of new beginnings, we also take a moment to acknowledge and honor the legacy of Cornaredo, a cherished icon of our shared history and passion for the game. To sum up, Cornaredo will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who crossed its thresholds. As we prepare to embrace the dawn of a new era with the upcoming stadium, we carry with us the memories and spirit of Cornaredo, a timeless cornerstone of our community's sporting.

We arrived here on the 25th of October and we were due to stay 5 nights. On arrival we we're checking how to safely access our pitch as it was dark. We were greeted by an aggressively drunken site guest, wielding a beer bottle and being verbally abusive towards us. We made the decision to leave site and had to go to the service station to park for the evening. I reported the incident to the site the same evening and hoped and expected a resolution then next morning. I have emailed several times since, I have attempted to call the site and also chat online to the customer service team and as yet...... I have heard nothing at all.....very disappointing to say the least.
Lisa D — Google review
We were here for a week in high season with the family on short notice. We were happily surprised by all the friendly TCS workers, the service, and the campsite. The pitches we had a regular were quite small. But as you must leave your car outside, it's okay again. Though you will have neighbors on all sides. So don't expect the calmest camping, even less so as you have many airplanes flying over the campsite—sometimes several in a row. On the other hand, the lake is gorgeous. We swam every day for hours. There's a small floaty on the lake with a slide. You can rent a stand-up paddleboard. You can also buy ice cream at the beach or grill with an electric BBQ like in Australia. There are two pools, too, though I preferred the lake much more. But it's good sometimes for kids. The shop had extended opening hours (until 10 PM) and had all you needed, including bread and croissants in the morning from 8:30. I recommend this camping to everyone with not too high standards, but great value for the price. Especially also for families. We felt almost like we were on vacation in Italy. Also, I made many race bike tours and other excursions with the family, like Swissminiatur, Lugano, and others.

I think it is just too expensive compared to what they offer. The view from the lake is nice but it can be suck when it rains. It also can be loudly when the aircraft flies around. The WiFi is not so stable. Good thing is they have the private sink that you might can spend some privacy there. It has the Italian restaurant inside the camp which is quite convenience. When you buy Pizza take away , you can get 20 percent discount.

9 Gelato Italiano is a popular ice cream shop in Lugano that offers unique and innovative flavors all year round. The spacious shop provides a comfortable setting to savor their delicious gelato and Italian desserts. While slightly pricier than other options in the area, many find the exceptional quality well worth it. Customers rave about the excellent flavor range, including both traditional and more unusual options like crema de Catalonia.
Very nice ice cream, a ton of different options. I went with the pistachio, caramel and amarena. Was really happy with the choices that I made, price is a little bit high, but that is expected in this area.

On the evening of August 31, between 6:30 and 7:00 PM, I ordered dark chocolate and confirmed with the staff that the display sticks were identical. However, I was served a product with dark chocolate on the outside and milk cream inside. When I raised this concern, the saleswoman refused to provide a replacement or allow me to speak with a manager. Instead, I was told I would need to pay again if I wanted the correct item. This experience was extremely disappointing and does not reflect the level of professionalism or customer respect one should expect. I kindly request that this matter be addressed appropriately.

On the evening of August 31, between 6:30 and 7:00 PM, I ordered dark chocolate and asked if the display sticks were the same , confirmed yes. Surprise: outside dark chocolate, inside milk cream! Went there with a friend on August 31 around 7 pm, and the saleswoman said the ice cream bar was dark chocolate inside and out. From the outside it is dark chocolate, so my friend believed her. But it actually had white cream inside. When my friend asked to change it, she refused and told her to pay for a new one. Really disappointing attitude, especially since she gave the wrong info about the product.

Lido Riva Caccia is a popular spot located just a short walk from the city center, featuring floating platforms in the Gulf of Lugano. It attracts both tourists and locals who appreciate its fresh food, quick service, and relaxing atmosphere. While there's a new booking system for all lidos in Lugano, visitors can still enjoy swimming and sunbathing without needing a reservation at this lido.
Great spot to swim directly in Lake Lugano. Get reserved chairs and access to a full bar. Nice raft out in the water. Change areas and showers are included. Volleyball court in water is available (but it has a slippery floor in that submerged area). Overall much smaller but also less crowded than Lido de Lugano which is a 20 mins walk away.
Phil D — Google review
Beutifull place by the lake. Sometimes there may be some confusion about the beds but usually people work it out among themselves. There are showers and changing rooms, but no toilets (at least none that I saw..). Just note that they don't supply towels and you have to bring your own.

My experience in Lugano Lake was absolutely amazing! The weather was perfect, adding to the beauty of the breathtaking views. The ferry trip across the lake was a highlight, providing a unique and enjoyable way to explore the surroundings. The staff was friendly and accommodating, making the experience even more delightful. I highly recommend taking a ferry trip in Lugano Lake for an unforgettable experience.

5⭐️ A Hidden Gem in Lugano! Lido Riva Caccia was an incredible find! We arrived just as the sun came out and enjoyed a refreshing swim and a quick dip in the beautiful Lake Lugano. The entry fee was very reasonable — only CHF 4 (€4.40) per person — and totally worth it for such a peaceful, scenic experience. Swimming is allowed as long as it’s not raining, and while drinks aren’t included, we treated ourselves to some beer and Aperol Spritz while soaking in the lakeside views. We were lucky to have a sunny window and practically had the place to ourselves — it felt like a private paradise! This spot is a must-visit in Lugano, and we’d absolutely come back again. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a calm, clean, and charming lakeside escape. 🌞🏊‍♂️🍹

Very nice place! Calm, superb view of the lake and birds, friendly staff and delicious ice-creams and fruit. Perfect to relax a bit and enjoy the surroundings, style décontracté 👍👍👍
André M — Google review
Very cool location to spend a sunny day sunbathing and bathing in the lake. It’s like 15CHF for a sun bed with umbrella, supervised swimming, jumping tower, plateau in the middle of the lake and a in water volleyball field. You also get decent lunch, drinks, ice cream - but that’s pricy - prime location prices ;) Bring your own towel, water and you’ll be fine.
L C — Google review
The swimming experience and staff was 5 stars, but the restaurant experience was 1 star, shockingly disappointing service, the croissants were from the day before (maybe even two…) clearly not fresh at all, and criminally overpriced.

Parco San Michele is a must-visit attraction in Lugano, offering a perfect location overlooking Lugano Lake. It's an ideal place for families to relax and enjoy a soothing stroll surrounded by attractive green spaces and thick trees. The park provides several sitting areas where visitors can unwind and take in the peaceful atmosphere. This hidden gem offers a great view with few tourists, making it an ideal spot to disconnect and immerse oneself in the natural beauty of the region.
One of my favorite spots in the city to relax and just take in the views, especially at sunset. There are several benches and you can easily find some shade even on the hottest days, so it'd also be an ideal place to have a picnic.

One of the best view of Lugano, in the park there is a stone table with a great view and also a water fountain. The area around the old church is sunny with few trees but around the gardens there are plenty of large trees that give a nice shade.

Absolutely lovely little park that seems to be a local secret! It is a little hard to find but there are signs for it (standard yellow Swiss walking signs). If you take the bus from the centre (bus 2), get off at the last stop and walk 7-8 mins. Boasts panoramic views of the city and the lake! There are benches, picnic tables and a drinking water fountain. Worth a visit if in Lugano for a while.

Italian restaurant
Pasta e Pesto is a modern and relaxed eatery located just a short walk from the main square of town in Lugano. It's an ideal option for those traveling on a budget. The restaurant offers fresh pastas and classic sauces, as well as a selection of wines. Visitors can also participate in a two-hour pasta-making class, which includes hands-on instruction and ends with a generous meal. The friendly staff and superb food make it a great choice for both locals and tourists alike.
Great tasting, very affordable and fast made food. I ate a quick lunch here on my lunch break every day while I was in Lugano (that's 4 days in a row!) and was able to eat something different every day since there's a lot of variety. The staff are also very friendly and helpful.
Mithila — Google review
This is a place for you if you're looking for something cheap, fast, simple and large portioned. As for flavor/food quality, it's average, nothing special. You might leave feeling like you can make this yourself at home. Although they do hand make all their own pastas which is nice. However, the sauce is all already pre-made and they just boil the pasta and throw the sauce on top. I would recommend their Pesto sauce, very garlicky and much more refined than the bolognese and tomato sauces. I got the tagliatelli and it was not cooked al dente, which was disappointing given they are in the Italian side of Switzerland.
Rohenne L — Google review
I did the two-hour pasta-making class with my family (CHF 80 per person): it was really wonderful! A great value as an activity, and ends with a generous meal (and you take home nearly 1 kg of fresh pasta that you made during the experience). Included hands-on instruction from the manager, and then we ate some of the pasta we made, with the amazing sauses (walnut, pesto, and Bolognese), along with some delicious pizzas. Very friendly staff, and superb food. The class taught us every step needed to make pasta at home. Highly recommend!!
Isaac W — Google review
The pasta served was really good and the setting and ambience of the place made you feel home. The guys were friendly and bothered to explain the menu slowly to us even though he couldn't speak a word of English.. Prices are affordable too as compared to the crazy prices in Switzerland eateries. Definitely worth a visit👍
Jonavan L — Google review
Great small cafeteria that serves fresh pasta. You get to choose the type of pasta and the sauce. Prices are good too, ranging from CHF 13 and up if you want a set meal (or the premium pastas and sauces). Certainly recommend the place if you are in need of a light meal

It's a shame for the staff, the last few times I was served at the counter by a waitress with little desire to work and in my opinion very rude. She didn't even bother to say 'good morning', she continued to carry out her duties, spilling drinks here and there; he cleaned everything with a cloth found nearby and then asked me what I wanted... I thought he would at least wash his hands before touching the waffle that I was supposed to eat. I had also asked for a pineapple juice, there was half the pineapple juice, then he probably got annoyed to get another bottle and thought well of adding a multi-fruit juice. Lugano is a very small town, compared to what I'm used to living in NYC, Paris, Rome. However; this tiny town offers a bit early summer charm with exponential growth of dinning and groceries costs. It is wise to eat and have a side visit at the Manor Food which is located on the second floor. There is a hidden elevator on the RIGHT hand side before you take the steps for handicap or difficult to ambulate folks. Once you get in, there are plenty of pre-cooked food and and deserts to choose from or limited fresh vegies and fruits if you'd like. A small out door seating area is free for customers to enjoy the early spring sun. Be prepare to pay in credit cards or large sum of Swiss Franc (CHF). But Manor offer a somewhat "reasonable" price at this location.
