The Arctic Cathedral, a striking church in Tromso, Norway, is an architectural marvel with its pyramid shape and glass facade. Designed by Jan Inge Hovigand and inspired by the region's fiskeheller and lavvu, it stands out as a landmark. The spiral shape of the cathedral reflects the aurora borealis, while its titanium exterior mirrors the dancing lights in the sky.
The Arctic Cathedral is one of Tromsø's most iconic landmarks. It's located on the eastern side of the city, just across the Tromsøbrua Bridge in the Tromsdalen district. The cathedral resembles an iceberg or a Sami (Arctic indigenous) tent. The structure, made of white concrete and glass, contrasts with the sky and snow-capped mountains, symbolizing the beauty of the Arctic. Situated on a hillside with no tall buildings blocking the view, the Arctic Cathedral is a popular spot for viewing the Northern Lights during winter. The views are stunning, offering panoramic views of the city.

Beautiful place! If you opt for piblic transport you can direct get down at the nearest bus-stop, Very accessible place. And if you really want to visit by walking, I would suggest, stay there till the sunset, enjoy beautiful colors and head back. Its just 2-2.5 kms from harbor area.
Srilekha R — Google review
An inspiring piece of Nordic architecture with a relatively easy walk over the road bridge from the main part of Tromsø. The cathedral is slightly expensive for admission, and as we went a bit later in the day to see the stained glass lit up we didn't feel we would have had enough time inside for the cost. Other than that, it's a highly recommended place to visit if you are interested in Scandinavian design.
Caleb W — Google review
A modern structure sitting atop a hill, walkable from downtown area of Tromso. It is across the main bridge, about half an hour on foot or, by local bus. Since I'm not familiar with the bus route and I love walking, it suits me fine to cross the bridge. Make sure you walk on the path for pedestrians, not one for bicyclists. The wind is stronger across the bridge so bundle up. The cathedral was closed on the day I was in town, but it's nice to see the outside. A tall, erect structure in a giant triangle. There is not much outside to see, no garden, park or anything interesting so I didn't stay around long. Behind it is the route to the cable cars, interesting to take. $60 usd for the ticket if you like an aerial view of the town. The church itself is worth a walk to but unless it is open, visit nearby attractions such as the cable cars.
G D — Google review
I visited the Arctic Cathedral on a sunny day, and it was absolutely beautiful. The architecture is so unique, and the light made it shine even more against the mountains and water. The view from there was stunning, definitely one of my favorite spots in Tromsø.
Atria O — Google review
Beautiful piece of architecture! The lights come on at night and it looks even more spectacular. There is a fee to visit it inside. Side walks can be quite slippery so do have proper walking gear or even shoe spikes.
Tavi T — Google review
The Arctic Cathedral in Tromsø is truly beautiful. The unique architecture stands out against the surrounding landscape, and the big glass windows make it feel calm. Even just standing outside and looking at it is worth the visit.
Beulah G — Google review
A beautiful church, especially in the night. We twice took advantage of the thirty-minute organ concerts which are included within the 80 kroner entrance fee, one a mixed programme, the other Bach. The music was splendid, and the atmosphere so homely and warm.

Polaria aquarium is a unique and striking arctic aquarium located in Tromso, Norway. Housed in a modern building designed to resemble ice floes, the aquarium offers an interactive and educational experience focused on Arctic wildlife. Visitors can enjoy exhibits showcasing the impact of climate change on glaciers and Arctic wildlife. With its kid-friendly approach, Polaria is a must-visit attraction for families, offering a panoramic cinema and the opportunity to observe seals.
Loved my time at the Polaria aquarium in Tromso where the seals were definitely the highlight. The aquarium itself aims to be more educational than "entertaining", especially where the seals are concerned and they definitely managed to achieve this. Initially skeptical, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed myself, and how well the seals are taken care of and respected. Definitely recommend it to both children and adults.
Nidhi M — Google review
Small aquarium but very nice exhibits. Some unique species since it focuses on arctic. It does have areas under construction so it is expanding. It has a very nice seal exhibit with tanks and a walk thru tunnel. 3 seal training sessions as well.
Thomas S — Google review
Such a fun place to visit! There are informational videos throughout the day, interactive exhibits and the seal feedings and trainings are open to watch. I would say the entry fee is slightly overpriced, but we still had a wonderful experience.
Victoria H — Google review
Little aquarium in Tromso, Norway. Its a fantastic place to bring family and group of friends. A great place to see the seal up close. We where there during winter, and the scenario outside the aquarium was just as great. Theres lots of activities for kids to learn about the oceanic life
Sandee T — Google review
Great little place. Watched one of the seal feeding and spent ages watching them swim around. The individual exhibits are really cool too as is the viewing tunnel. Not a big place but we'll worth a visit. Really enjoyed it and they have some very good souvenirs too.
Simon H — Google review
Nice place. Plenty of information accessible, staff is humble and you can shop. Only downside is there internal fixes going on in the building which kid of ruins the vibe and variety of species is limited. If you want to see seals eat, visit at 12:30 pm😄
Srilekha R — Google review
We absolutely loved our visit to Polaria! It’s such a fascinating and family-friendly place — both educational and fun. The exhibitions, the aquarium, and especially the adorable seals kept us all entertained. Our little boy was so happy that he said, “This feels like heaven!” ❤️ Definitely a must-visit when you’re in Tromsø.
Andrei A — Google review
Visiting Polaria was pretty fun. It's a small marine attraction, with some tanks with sealife, and the main attraction being the seal training sessions. Nicely accessible for wheelchairs. Construction work going on at the moment so some dirty and cold areas.

The Polar Museum, located in a charming wooden building by the harbor in Tromsø, is part of the Arctic University Museum of Norway. It showcases scientific, cultural, and archaeological exhibits related to the area's history and heritage. The museum delves into the city's origins as a hub for Arctic hunters and explorers, featuring captivating displays on exploration, hunting, and wildlife in Svalbard.
It is really nice when you get there. You get to know the way of life in the North Pole and the polar history. Many representative items placed therein make it more realistic. The ticket is about 10€ per person. There are some souvenirs that you may also buy (prices are typical). A hard copy guide is given , free of charge, available in many languages.

Small place, can be covered within an hour. Bus stop is nearby. Good variety of animals which is good for kids. Overall informative.

A great little museum to learn about all things Artic. We were in Tromso Norway for holiday and we stumbled into this little museum. We were given an English booklet to explain about each room and the history behind. As someone from the tropical its really fascinating to learn about the Artic way of life, the people, the technician, Marine life and much more. A great little museum to check out while in town
Sandee T — Google review
What an unforgettable experience when I visited it on 26 March 2025! The Polar Museum in Tromsø absolutely blew me away. It's incredibly well maintained, and every corner is packed with fascinating stories from the Arctic explorers and trappers who braved the extremes. I loved how all the information was available in multiple languages—it made everything so accessible and inclusive. The exhibits are a perfect mix of engaging history, incredible taxidermy, and authentic artifacts that truly transport you back in time. I could almost feel the chill of the polar expeditions just walking through! And speaking of chill—the temperature inside is so well controlled, making the whole visit comfortable, the temperature outside was just -2 degrees. Touching pieces of history and learning about the raw, untamed Arctic life left me deeply moved. A must-visit if you're in Tromsø. You'll leave with a whole new appreciation for the spirit of exploration!
Kalpesh G — Google review
I've learned so much here! At the reception I received an information booklet with lots of engaging and interesting stories, including the North Pole expedition of the Fram ship and the adventures of Nansen. The pieces showed in the museum were a good visual aid for all the amazing stories.

Very informative museum, we learned a lot about the Nordic history and how their life and survival in the past.
Vitamin K — Google review
Located in the heart of Tromsø, The Polar Museum (Polarmuseet) offers visitors a captivating journey into Norway’s Arctic past. Housed in a charming 19th-century warehouse by the harbor, this museum focuses on the lives of polar explorers, trappers, and whalers who ventured into some of the world’s harshest environments. It's not just a museum—it's a portal into the gritty, courageous world of Arctic survival and discovery. Inside, you’ll find detailed exhibits on legendary Norwegian explorers like Roald Amundsen and Fridtjof Nansen, who played key roles in conquering the North and South Poles. Through authentic artifacts, old photographs, and personal journals, the museum brings to life the extreme challenges these men faced, from bitter cold to months of isolation. There’s also a strong focus on hunting culture, especially the lives of seal hunters and trappers who once spent years living in Arctic wilderness. While this aspect can be controversial, the museum presents it with historical context, allowing visitors to reflect on both the resilience and the impact of human activity in the polar regions. Although it’s not large, The Polar Museum is rich in storytelling and atmosphere. The creaky wooden floors and dim lighting make it feel like stepping into a time capsule.
Phạm T — Google review
It’s a very interesting museum. Walking through the rooms filled with different exhibits, I genuinely felt like I was stepping through Tromsø's and Norway’s history, and I learned a lot about Arctic life! The only downside was the paper guides - they were a bit too long to read at times. I understand it might be a budget choice, but audio headsets or more consistent English labels on the exhibits would make the experience even better.

Mountain cable car
Fjellheisen is a popular attraction in Tromso, Norway, offering a thrilling ride on a dual-gondola cable car up Storsteinen mountain. At 420 meters above sea level, the panoramic views of Tromsø, its rugged coastline, distant mountains, and the majestic Lyngen Alps are simply breathtaking. Visitors can also enjoy the sweeping vistas of the city and surrounding mountains and fjords from the cafe at the top.
Very beautiful! I highly recommend taking the staircase up or down and doing the cable for the other direction. If you are looking for a challenge, you can take the Sherpa staircase up and then the cable cart down or vice verse. Very beautiful scenic view. I highly recommend. There’s a very cute cafe located at the top as well and a variety of view points.
Shalon J — Google review
Fast cable car to the top of the mountain! The views on the way up/down are great and at the top are awesome!! Best views are towards Tromso city as you go up/down. You can also go for walks at the top of the mountain and beyond, there are viewpoints giving 360 degree views too. The only negative is the steep ticket price (NOK595 for a return ticket, Oct ‘25) which seems very overpriced. If you are up for it, you can hike one way (either up or down) and buy a one way ticket for NOK 385.
Pradhyot S — Google review
The place is AMAZING!!! There is a nice view of Tromsø and is a must-do in the city!! You can get tickets before at the website and there too!!! Get prepared because up there can be colder than the city! Dress warmly!!
Ana M — Google review
Visited this mountain recently. Great place thought the cable car was a bit expensive for such a small ride. We did the glacier paradise in zermatt recently and that wasn't much more expensive. Cafe nice and warm . Had the soup could have done with a bit more warmer.
Sarah T — Google review
The cable car is not available. They're doing repairs or something. So, we climbed a bit by foot, on the trial followed by the sherpa steps. Not all the way to the top, because it is quite difficult... Also, there are too many mosquitos all around, the size of overweight trolls, and they are insatiable. We took some good pictures though...
Taniel V — Google review
This is absolutely unacceptable for a tourist attraction. You pay 595 NOK per person (around £45) for a 4-minute cable car to what is literally an active construction site. There are excavators, fencing, mud, and exposed wiring everywhere. Visitors are directed through a plywood “No Entry” corridor with slippery stairs and no proper barriers near icy drops. It’s unsafe and not what’s shown online. Fjellheisen should not be charging full price or even operating in these conditions. Completely misrepresented and dangerous.
Philippe I — Google review
This cost of this very short ride is expensive but it's helpful to compare it against the cost of say an aurora chase. We paid almost 1000 NOK for an aurora chase bus tour and didn't see anything because. Even though the weather was bad, the tour wasn't cancelled which was a waste of money. However, when we came up here we were treated to a spectacular display. If you choose a night where you can clearly see the moon or stars you are most likely to see the aurora. Be advised that it can be icy and slippy outside so bring some crampons in your backpack (you can't wear spikes in the cable car) if you're worried. The coffee shop is warm and there are toilets also. There was construction work going on and I wished they'd turned the lights of the site off at night, but it didn't affect the view. There are also spectacular views out over Tromso.
Stacey T — Google review
⭐️ 1/5 — Fjellheisen: a pricey panic attack wrapped in mud and ice. None stars wasn’t a choice Let’s not dance around it — this place was a whole disaster from the moment we arrived. Mud everywhere, ice lurking under every step, and not a single safe spot to walk. It felt less like a scenic attraction and more like paying premium rates to stroll through a dangerous construction zone. And the cable car? It didn’t glide us into some cozy mountain haven. It dumped us at the bottom of four full flights of stairs, as if that was totally normal. Imagine navigating that with an 84-year-old mother, clutching her arm while your heart is trying to leap out of your chest. That’s not adventure — that’s stress cardio. Inside wasn’t any better. Water dripping from the ceiling, signs everywhere whispering “Caution: could be icy” like we didn’t already know we were skating on borrowed time. Honestly, the signs should’ve just said, “Abandon hope all ye who enter.” And after all that? You end up in a cafeteria-style setup with coffee so bland it made me miss gas stations. For the price we paid, I expected an experience — not a survival challenge dressed up as a tourist attraction. Save your money, save your sanity, save your ankles. Fjellheisen is a hard no

Came here as part of the family city pass. It was probably my favorite of the places we visited. I enjoyed the wide range of exhibits. I thought the geology room was well thought out. I also liked the multiple perspectives and history of the Sami people. The museum itself is nicely equipped with restrooms, lockers, rest area, and cafe

Norges arktiske universitetsmuseum is honestly one of the must-visit places in Tromsø. I’m not really a “museum person” at all. I actually went in just because the snow was heavy, I needed somewhere warm to sit for a bit, and I wanted to use the toilet. But I ended up spending almost three hours inside! The museum is very informative and laid out in a way that makes it easy to follow, even if you don’t usually enjoy museums. I learned so much about Arctic nature, local history and culture without ever feeling bored. It’s the kind of place where you think you’ll just take a quick look around and suddenly realise a few hours have passed. If you’re in Tromsø, whether you love museums or you’re just escaping the weather like I was, this place is definitely worth a visit.

EXCELLENT permanent installations (the dioramas are especially good). But what I found outstanding is the written text. I often find the wall text too dry and academic (written by and for academics versus the general public). Here, it is written in a very easy to understand manner - and it absolutely stays with you - and they have made sure that the installation works in tandem with the information that is being communicated in the wall text.
Irma Z — Google review
Very nice and must visit if you have kids. The short facts and video sessions. It was impressive to learn how old the ice in this part of the world is and the part about the Sami culture was really nice. Be careful about parking. No clear signs and we were find NOK660.

If you are in Tromso, take a few hours and visit. The incredible opportunity to learn about the Sami people is worth your time.
Erica M — Google review
A good museum with a nice exhibit on Sámi culture and the people, as well as exhibits on geology and the northern lights. The latter was somewhat disappointing, with not much to see or do. The museum staff were very friendly, but the cafe and toilets were dated. We also went to the museum's once a month event on a Wednesday evening. It was lovely to be in an empty museum and meet some local people.
Amanda — Google review
It is an excellent museum with several exhibitions. I particularly enjoyed the sapmi culture exhibition. As it featured a wide array of items on display. The downstairs cloakroom is handy, and the staff were lovely and helpful.
Paul E — Google review
A must-go for any visitor of Tromsø! I highly recommend walking to the museum from the city center, along the water (~35 min). The museum explains you everything about the geological history of Tromsø and it's surroundings. Also, there's a very pretty exhibition about northern lights upstairs, alongside an exhibition about the history of the Sami population and culture. All in all, I've enjoyed it a lot and spent the whole afternoon here!

Tromso Wilderness Center offers an unforgettable dog sledding experience through stunning landscapes where you can spot various wildlife. In the summer, visitors can meet and cuddle with friendly huskies at the Husky Cafe for free. The center is known for its well-cared-for dogs and offers a variety of husky sledding tours. Visitors praise the knowledgeable and friendly staff who are passionate about their work. Driving the sled requires some fitness but is a fantastic experience that shouldn't be missed.
This experience was totally unique. Loved it. The dogs are well looked after during their working lives, and socialised with humans so they are super friendly, then they get adopted when they retire. After the experience you get to hang with the dogs and go to a lovely warm cabin for coffee and tea and some delicious home made chocolate cake.

One of the best experiences we’ve had in all our travels around the world! The husky ride in Tromsø was absolutely amazing — fun, thrilling, and definitely worth the money. There were so many friendly huskies to interact with, and the ride itself was exciting from start to finish. An unforgettable adventure that we highly recommend to anyone visiting Tromsø!
Vivian N — Google review
As a dog lover it was a very enjoyable experience to have a walk with one of the Alaskan huskies here. Our guide Leonardo did a great job informing us and answering all questions. We also got to enjoy a litter of puppies and cuddles with the other dogs in the kennel, which were amazingly friendly for this type of working dogs. Highly recommended!
Torbjörn O — Google review
On arrival to the huskies, we firstly got to spend time with the puppies before having free time with the older ones. They are well looked after with lots of staff there caring for them. After around half hour with the huskies we went inside to have a drink and some cake around the fire before heading back on the coach. We did book a sledding trip originally but due to the weather it wasn’t possible, so we booked this instead to still be able to meet them.

Lovely experience with the huskies - super friendly and full of cuddles. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, and the dogs are clearly so loved. The food and drinks were also amazing. Would definitely recommend! 🐾🐶

We had an amazing time on our husky adventure in Tromsø. Everything was extremely well organized from start to finish, and the entire team made the experience special. We were especially lucky to ride with Chris, who was a fantastic guide. He shared so many interesting facts about the dogs — how they’re bred, trained, fed, and how they run. His passion for the huskies really came through, and riding with him in the front made the experience even more memorable. Nadia was also incredibly warm and hospitable. She showed us around the area, introduced us to the adorable puppies, and made us feel very welcome throughout the visit. The whole staff was genuinely friendly, caring, and excited to share their world with visitors. We also enjoyed a delicious meal, including traditional Bidos soup, homemade cake, and plenty of hot drinks — it felt cozy and comforting after the ride. Overall, this was a fantastic experience and one of the highlights of our time in Tromsø. Beautiful scenery, amazing dogs, great people — highly recommended!

We enjoyed our tour with Trine. She did an outstanding job of keeping g us informed and taking care of us. Nature did not completely cooperate on our night, but Trine did take some good photos and we enjoyed our excursion.

It was a bus tour with guide. The weather was to cloudy and snowy. Bad luck! We must go 2 an half our to chasing norther light to Finnish territory. It was but not at all a quality thhat we expected. You have to know it is practically impossible to take pictures with android mobile phone. Guide explained on the bus how prepare the camera for the best photos, but not was helping in the field, thats why 2 stars. After a quite expensive tour you have a possibility to shop pictures online for 29€/pieces. I think Company should have offer some pictures for free for the clients. You can see here the picture of 29€ which is not at all a NatGeo quality.

(Translated by Google) A place I came to see the Aurora without thinking and bought a plane ticket~_~ Since the weather is really important, I didn't book a tour in advance, so the first place I visited upon arriving in Tromsø was the place I was guided to at the visitor center! (Visited in February 2024) I was lucky and didn't have to go all the way to the Finnish border, and when I arrived at the hunting point, the guide kindly taught me how to take pictures! Set your iPhone to night mode for 10 seconds, take a picture, and during those 10 seconds of taking a picture, the wavelengths move actively and you can observe them changing frequently. Churches & Cathedrals
Tromsø Cathedral, also known as Tromso Domkirke, is a stunning Protestant place of worship located in the heart of Tromsø. Built in 1861 by the renowned architect Christian Heinrich Grosch, it stands out as one of Norway's largest wooden churches and is considered the northernmost Protestant cathedral in the world. The Gothic Revival style and its unique construction using primarily wood make it a remarkable landmark.
Centuries old church with antique furniture, especially the pipe organ, makes a magnificent landmark. Free entry. Ticket booking required if you like to attend the prayer session on Sundays. It's worth to pay to listen the cathedral music of the magnificent pipe organ. It lies nearby the harbour for cruise ships and in the heart of the city. Several souvenir shops around there.

What a wonderful moment to visit this century wood church in Tromso. I went on Monday but it was closed. But I got to see its night view. Luckily I stayed nearby in town. So I went again on Tuesday. When stepped in to the church, I felt amazed of the building and atmosphere. Peaceful and calm. There was a lady playing old piano. Such beautiful piece and real experience. Thanks for keeping such priceless church.

A sacred symbol of the Arctic, this cathedral is Norway's largest wooden church in the world. Built in 1861 by architect Christian Heinrich Grosch, it stands out for its Gothic Revival wooden architecture. It is located in the heart of the city, close to the main street, Storgata. I stayed here for three nights, passing almost every time because of its central location. It is beautiful both day and night, and is peaceful, alive, and calming in itself.

Lovely Cathedral in Tromso city central Norway. This Cathedral is among one of the oldest and most iconic in Tromso, Norway. We visited Tromso during the winter, so we were able to observe this Cathedral both during the day and at night. The color and feel to the Cathedral changes as the sun gone down, yet all we're very beautiful. Theres a few walking tour that can book for the local guide, its highly recommended

A beautiful and atmospheric cathedral right in the heart of Tromsø. The unique wooden architecture and the tall spire make it stand out immediately. Inside it’s calm, bright, and very cozy — a great place to take a short break and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. I really liked the design, the acoustics, and the overall vibe of the place. If you’re nearby, definitely step inside — even a few minutes here leave a really pleasant impression.

Whale watching tour agency
Embark on an unforgettable adventure with the M/S Gabriella Whale Watching tour in Tromso. This popular activity offers year-round opportunities to witness majestic sperm whales, with higher chances during the summer months. The new boats and friendly staff ensure a pleasant experience, departing at 9am and returning at 3pm - providing ample whale viewing time. Guests have reported sightings of orcas, humpback whales, and even rare encounters with sperm whales.
After another tour operator cancelled our whale watching tour twice, we tried our luck and went to this ship hoping to get a seat spontaneously. The crew was super friendly about it and they let us on because they had a few free seats left. And that turned out to be an amazing experience. The crew was very accommodating and the guide knowledgeable about whales, it was great to hear so much infos about the animals and their behaviour. And we got lucky and saw plenty of orcas and humpback whales, which was absolutely incredible! The boat itself is comfortable and very fast and the team kept us updated all the time about the weather conditions at sea. Would absolutely recommend this tour.
Maria H — Google review
Quick: - friendly - leave later, get back quicker, same whale viewing time - new boats - we saw sperm whales and lots of orcas. I booked this whale watching tour as the people selling it were friendly and not "pushy" This tour also leaves at 9am and comes back at 3pm. Most tours leave earlier and come back later. You might think the other tours will give you more time to see whales but on the contrary this tour gave us about 30 min more viewing time as other boats we saw leaving from tromso. This is due their cruising speed. They go faster so it takes less time to arrive. Same for the way back. We passed boats that had left earlier on the way to the whales. So we arrived earlier. And those other boats left earlier but we passed them on The way back. So we got to sleep longer and were back quicker to have a coffee in tromso. The boat itself is quite new and comfy. You get free coffee and tea, other snacks/drinks can be bought. They give explanations during the viewing and also offer to take pictures of you and the whales/background In overall, it's a good company to go and see whales. It's just not as "known" yet and has a lot less reviews as it's the new player on the market. But this had the added advantage to us that we were about 20-30 people on the (big) boat, so it was the more quiet and comfy.
Wo D — Google review
The best whale watching trip around! Our guide was very knowledgeable and shared interesting facts about the orkas and whales during our cruise. The boat is comfortable and fast and the crew is really friendly. We saw multiple orcas, birds and whales. As a bonus the views are just breathtaking! Thank you so much for such an amazing experience!
Martyna — Google review
Spotted orcas, humpback whales and a rare sperm whale sighting. We picked this tour because it set off later than others, but the speediness of the boat meant there was still plenty of time to see whales. The crew were very attentive, providing blankets and thermal outfits to stave off the attic chill. Very much recommended.
Lizzie H — Google review
The check in operation was more than terrible. They made us come one hour prior to the departure but at that time no guide was there so 300+ visitors had to wait outside without any direction. They also check the visitors name manually on the printed lists so it made a chaos in front of the receptionist. The whale watching and their guide during the tour were good but operation was just a nightmare and as if it would have been their first time of the operation. I world definitely choose other operators next time. The whales were innocent.

By far the best whale watching trip in Tromso. Thank you 😊

Nestled in the breathtaking landscapes of Tromso, Norway, the Arctic–Alpine Botanic Garden stands as a testament to nature's resilience and beauty. As the world's northernmost botanic garden, it features an impressive collection of over 1,200 plant species from polar and alpine regions across the globe. Visitors can wander through themed sections that highlight diverse geographical areas, immersing themselves in vibrant blooms like Arctic poppies and gentians during spring and summer.
It is one of the most diverse and bountiful botanical gardens I have been to! Excellent array of flowers and plants, and all laid out in a really engaging pathway; there's not just one oath. You can weave through and over different regions of plants and find unique displays, water features, and information boards. It's totally worth the visit!

We visited the garden a couple weeks ago (mid-September) and absolutely loved it! It was a great place to walk around and see so many different plants. The use of rocks for the paths and display was also very creative. This is a great place to visit when it’s not covered in snow!
Rose K — Google review
Stunning views, very walkable hillslopes even for partly disabled, amazing huge international plant collection, and the best landscape architecture outside of Japan! Why? Painstaking selection & placement of every single stone, post, piece of gravel, plant, water features -- far beyond most of the planet's public gardens. No admission fee, no gates, no wait. Just amazing beauty.

Beautiful and free, what more can you want out of a Norwegian attraction. Bonus: beautiful views on the sea and mountains, and a few geocaches for those who are into it. Also a great photo opportunity in a reflective ball. Join another 1000 people who have done the same.

A great little garden in Tromso! We visited in summer when the flowers were blooming. Best thing is, it was free to enter! It is well maintained and easy to get to, with plenty of parking spots to offer and a nice trail if you are walking or riding your bike. Plenty of flora to see with nice little signs and information. Great little cafe on site, with a self served option. We got the waffles and surprisingly it was really nice! We were lucky to get a fresh batch and we got to top it ourselves. The garden also offers a path to walk to the university and the science centre just next/behind the garden if you wanted to explore more, but it's a great spot to visit if you're looking for a free activity in Tromso.

The beach is also known for its midnight sun experience. In addition to being a great place for outdoor activities, it provides tables, benches, and barbecues for visitors to enjoy.
Beautiful location, plenty of space to sit down and enjoy the view. Great location to see the northern light although the busses ends at midnight. There parking lot nearby and washroom. Bit colder then other areas because of the wind so make sure you bring extra clothes with you.

We went there several time, during the day but also during the night. Such a beautiful place, with plenty options to have a picnic and breath pure air from the ocean. We had the chance to observe amazing northern light at night directly from this place around 21h the Wednesday 1st of October. With the reflection on the water as you can see in the photos I shared. I also recorded some handpan videos there, I highly recommend to visit it if you have the time.

You don’t need to join an expensive tour — you can see amazing northern lights right here! I’m a budget backpacker traveling around the world, and I researched several aurora spots in Tromsø to find places I could reach on my own. Among all the spots I visited, this was the easiest to access, had the least light pollution, and offered the clearest view. From around 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the aurora danced across the night sky — unbelievably large, bright, and beautiful. You can even see green, white, and pink colors with the naked eye. There are metal barrels placed here and there where you can make a bonfire. It gets really cold at night, so bringing a lighter might be helpful. One night I went when it was very windy by the seaside — sand blew into my eyes and it hurt, so be careful on windy days! I’m sure aurora tours are amazing too, but if the sky is clear, you can have an incredible experience right here for free. I’ll be sharing the experience on YouTube and social media, so feel free to check it out if you’re curious! 🌌 @asumikumano

Simply stunning views and colder than cold! Wrap up warm as the wind is stronger here than in town. The views are stunning! Lots of seating, so I bet it's amazing in summer to sit here. It was extremely slippy underfoot in January, so make sure you wear grips. There are public toilets that are free and extremely clean. Best outdoor public toilet I've ever used!! There is a bus stop back to town very close by. Would love to come here to view the northern lights. Next time, maybe 😁

Thủ đô của cực quang ---------------------------------------- Located at 69° North in the heart of Arctic Norway, Tromsø is often called the “Capital of the Northern Lights” – and for good reason. Thanks to its prime position directly beneath the auroral oval, Tromsø offers some of the highest chances in the world to witness the aurora borealis, especially during the winter months from September to March. But Tromsø is more than just a destination for aurora hunting. This charming Arctic town is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, deep fjords, and cozy wooden houses, creating a fairytale-like landscape that’s both peaceful and awe-inspiring. During polar nights in winter, when the sun doesn’t rise for weeks, the sky comes alive with vibrant ribbons of green, violet, and red lights dancing above. Visitors can enjoy a range of unforgettable experiences, from guided aurora chases and husky sledding, to ice fishing and learning about the indigenous Sámi culture. What makes Tromsø truly special is that it combines raw Arctic beauty with modern comfort—offering good infrastructure, warm accommodations, and reliable tours, making it ideal even for first-time winter travelers. Whether you're a photographer, adventurer, or simply a dreamer chasing magic in the sky, Tromsø is one of the most reliable and enchanting places in the world to see the northern lights.

Tromso's unique location makes it one of the best spots on Earth to experience this magical natural phenomenon, offering travelers an enchanting glimpse into nature's artistry.
One of the best experiences of my life. Our group got incredibly lucky with strong, vivid Northern Lights, dancing clearly across the sky. The team knew exactly where to take us - the spot was completely dark, quiet, and perfect for viewing. The tour itself was super comfortable: warm bus, blankets, hot chocolate, cookies, and a cosy bonfire. The guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate, explaining the science and stories behind the Aurora without ever feeling forced. Standing under a sky exploding with green and purple light was surreal. If you’re in Tromsø, this is a must-do. Absolutely worth every penny.

Embark on an unforgettable adventure with Rødne Fjord Cruise Hvalsafari/Nordlys in Tromso. The experienced guides, Daniel and Siggi, are passionate about nature and wildlife, providing valuable insights during a presentation and Q&A session. While cruising through the fjords, you'll have the chance to witness humpback whales and orcas in their natural habitat. The dedication to preserving marine life is evident as the guides maintain a respectful distance from the animals.
Rodne Cruise is a very professional company. The boats used for their tours are incredibly clean, and you can enjoy free coffee on board. We had an amazing trip and truly enjoyed the experience. Highly recommended!

Can you really see whales on a "safari" from Tromsø in October? I was skeptical, but the answer is YES! We cruised aboard the comfortable ship M/S Rygerdronningen today, and were delighted to see 2 pods of Orca feeding on the herring. Our captain & crew were obviously skilled, and the guides were friendly & knowledgeable (Stan, Daniel, Anna, Maja). The views are spectacular. We highly recommend this excursion with Rodne Fjord Cruise

We had a fantastic day - comfortable boat and a great crew. Stan and Daniel in particular were very friendly and informative. We were lucky enough to see fin whales and humpbacks - a very successful whale watch! The surrounding scenery is beautiful and rugged and this a tour well worth doing when in Tromso - would highly recommend!!

Generic, Impersonal and not suitable for those looking for authentic experience. Do You get the whales - yes, I think like everyone else. Do you get anything else special - no. But when we booked this tour, we knew it would be a large generic , non cozy group so it met our expectations, I do highly recommend everyone to book any fjord and whale watching cruise in Tromso because this place and the sights are just beautiful. If you manage to find a more cozy, smaller setting go for it, we were just too lazy to search for more so we booked the first thing that fell on our lap. This is a highly commercial one but nature is for everyone so we enjoyed tromso and the fjords and the whales !!!
Harshita S — Google review
In general super nice crew and very motivated and endeavoured, also with free coffee and tea! first half of the boat also cozy with real seats and desks. However, we were completely overbooked so too many people needed to go in the back sitting on long banks - ok if you got a bank with a backrest, but super exhausting if you had a bank without one, sitting there for ~3h until reaching the whale watching spot and afterwards the same duration back. What annoyed me most was that I payed the exact same price than all the other people sitting in the nice lodging area with real seats and desks. Would prefer if you could select beforehand and pay eg half the price for seats without backrests which would make it more fair. or just let so many people book for one cruise that everyone has a real seat with a backrest and that it doesn’t feel so crowed!
Johanna A — Google review
We did the Fjord cruise with this company and loved it! We had a lot of fun during this trip. The scenery was breathtaking, the guides very kind (Daniel and Matthew), the ship very nice and smooth. We saw seals, eagles and cool looking birds. I really enjoyed the route they took. But please wear a lot of layers and warm clothes!! While relatively warm in Tromso, freezing on the outder deck during the trip. Inside it was very warm and cozy. Thank you for this lovely trip
Charlotte W — Google review
My experience with Rødne Fjord Cruise in Tromso was incredible. During the full day cruise we were able to spot several whales. The customer service and expertise demonstrated by the guides further enhanced the trip, as they shared valuable insights about the marine life we encountered. I highly recommend bringing warm clothes and gloves as you'll spend around 20-30 minutes outside once you reach the whale sighting location. While the journey to and from the destination was lengthy, and the actual whale watching time was relatively brief, but the stunning views of the fjords and landscapes along the way more than made up for it. Great way to spend a day in Tromsø.

Tromsø Bridge, a landmark cantilever bridge, offers stunning views of the Arctic Cathedral and distant mountains. It is a key feature connecting Tromsøya to the mainland and the island of Kvaløya. The bridge, opened in 1960, spans 3,399 feet across the Tromsoysundet Strait. Despite its high latitude, Tromsø enjoys relatively mild winters and tree growth due to the warming effect of the Gulf Stream.
Really good views but can get windy up the top so hold on to your hats and things. Decent views of the arctic cathedral from afar too

Impressive bridge whether you go under it by ship, view it from the city or walk over it. It is a good walk over it to the Arctic Cathedral. The length and steepness should not be underestimated, especially in winter.

A great way to see Tromso from the sea and a decent walk. Beware that one side is for cycles, the other for walkers. It isn't well marked. It wasn't particularly windy when we went over, but it can get very windy.

Cultural Significance: Tromsø Bridge is not just a transportation link; it has become a symbol of Tromsø itself, representing the city’s development and connection to the mainland. The bridge is often featured in local art and photography. Tromsø Bridge is more than just a crossing point; it’s an experience. Whether you’re traveling by car or taking a scenic walk, crossing this bridge provides a unique perspective on the beauty of Tromsø and the natural landscapes that surround it.

Walked across this bridge to Mt Fjellheisen in March 2025. Cold weather and windy. After dinner, we walked more than 45mins to Fjellheisen. Such a great experience. Can see the view of the two sides of the bridge. Although it was a tired journey.

Nice walk with spectacular views. Be aware that when crossing the bridge towards the church, the right side is for pedestrians only and you should walk on that same side when returning. It's not clearly marked but the left side (when walking in the direction of the church) is for bicycles coming and going.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Tromsø, Norway, the Tromsø City Library and Archive stands as a beacon of culture and knowledge. This architectural marvel not only boasts an impressive collection of books and digital resources but also serves as a vital repository for local history. Inside, visitors can find serene nooks perfect for reading or working on projects, while families will appreciate the dedicated children's area located on the lower floor. For those seeking tranquility, the top floor offers a peaceful retreat away from distractions.
Lovely place to sit and read a book and relax! There’s a collection (although small) of English books on the second floor. There are charging points on all tables, and also a facility to get free drinking water and paid coffee on the ground floor, which is really great!

This is seemingly the hot spot in town for families on weekends. The place was packed on Saturday - primarily with young families who were doing all kinds of kid activities in the downstairs area of the library. The first and second floors had lots of young people on their computers and the 3rd floor which is a "quiet zone" is worth visiting for the views of the town. I wouldn't say this is a must-visit but if you have time, it is worthwhile - and a good place to rest and get out of the weather if it is inclement.

Summary: This is a nice mountain and it's a great spot for a nice local hike, picnic, or to escape the city. Make sure to take anything you need - proper shoes, snacks, water, a small first aid kit, warm attire, etc. Beautiful mountain with great views of both nature and the city. The trail markers can be somewhat hidden so just pay attention to where you are going. It is easy to get off of a trail, so make sure to remember your way back to the trail in the event you decide to go off the trail. Overall, this is a safe mountain with awesome views. Beautiful mountain view overseeing Tromso city. A return adult ticket on the Fjellheisen costs 345NOK (apprx 33USD) for a 4mins ride - which I find a little pricey, but you wouldn’t want to trek up in the snow.

Pub
Ølhallen, the oldest pub in Tromso, has a rich history dating back to 1928. Initially exclusive to men with no toilet facilities for women, it eventually became more inclusive. The decor exudes old-school charm with its exposed brick, tiled floors, and hunting memorabilia. Situated near the Arctic Circle, Ølhallen offers a relaxed atmosphere where locals and visitors can savor Norway's finest beers and delicious food.
I don’t drink beer but I found the non alcoholic one js rather light and fresh! And the interior is so interesting! Good to see their movie about their history, and it was great experience.

The bar is well located and is very charming! It does not feel like a local spot but rather a tourist trap … They have an amazing selection of local beers. Keep in mind that the beers are pretty pricey (1 small glass of beer is about 12$CAD)

The beer selection here is great. Tried a flight of a selection of Mack and they were all great. The bar lady selected them and was spot on. No food options except for chips, peanuts and hot dogs. Alcohol is super expensive in Norway.

Really great beer hall. The selection is fantastic, and it's all kept well. The interior has a cool brick design and is very comfortable. The taster boards are a really good way to try many recommended beers. The staff are pretty knowledgable about the beer as well.

Nestled in the vibrant city of Tromsø, the Northern Norwegian Art Museum is a gem for art lovers eager to explore Nordic creativity. This charming museum features an impressive collection that spans from 19th-century landscape paintings to contemporary works, including graphic design and photography. Housed in a historic building dating back to 1917, it serves as a cultural hub with rotating exhibitions that often highlight Northern and Sami art and crafts.
Lovely super quick visit for a Sunday in Tromso. Good staff, clean and art exhibition interesting.

LOVED this museum and especially the just opened Kvaani Biennaali that just opened (it will be until sept 30, 2026). Beautiful museum, lovely staff and gorgeous installation of art.
Irma Z — Google review
I came to see art, I left with my own. The exhibits were captivating—especially the photography one Layers of time, Everyday life in Svalbard, touched me—but my favourite part was the craft/workshop section where I spent 1.5 hours making collages, earrings, and embroidery to the sounds of soft jazz (in case you wondered, I'm over 12 years old). That alone would have made the price worth it.
Marta K — Google review
We visited the museum twice. On Friday we did the guided tour related to the Sami-week. A Sami artist exhibition was on the 3rd floor. On Saturday we went back because there would be a Sami singer. Unfortunately that tour was in Norwegian, the signing was nice but most of the people in the group were no Norwegian speaking so couldnt understand the guided part of the tour.

A wonderful art museum focused on northern Norwegian and Scandinavian artists. It’s a relatively small museum (there were three exhibits on our visit), which makes it very manageable as part of a day in Tromsø. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the exhibits, particularly the photography and music exhibit on Svalbard. We were lucky to arrive around the time of a guided tour, which I highly recommend. The tour guide was very sweet and added a lot of historical and local context that made the exhibits more meaningful. The rest of the staff was so lovely as well.
Sonam K — Google review
This place is nothing short of being spectacular. We were expecting a “regular” arts museum but boy were we wrong. The highlight has to be the artist’s workshop. It was fully equipped with everything that a true artist could wish for. The kids spend nearly 1.5 hrs in there while us parents could enjoy a cup of coffee free of charge. Last but not least the staff was very helpful & kind. Thank you for an amazing experience.

Especially the top floor is filled with beautiful paintings of arctic nature. My favourite painting is in the attached images.
Ralf R — Google review
Starting off with general aspects about the museum itself: it has three floors with multiple rooms for different artworks and a nice little shop on the ground floor. From what I understood, there is also a corner to sit, drink coffee and talk with fellow visitors. About the current exhibition: some of the people here talk a lot about how they didn't like "Gába – female resilience" because it was too short or too simple. I would say that these people did not understand what this exhibition is about. Only 28% of the museum walls are covered, showing the limited representation of female painters. It is a message to the public. That's why it's short. Personally, I really enjoyed the paintings and cultural features that had stories to tell about womanhood in different countries. Additionally, the museum has multiple sitting opportunities and very clean toilettes. What was missing for me though was more in depth stories regarding each painting or artist. Perhaps, some additions to go more into the "resilience" part would also be preferable. Other than that, it was very thought-provoking and interesting to see art present in such a way. If anyone wants to immerse themselves for a short 30–35-minute period of time into educative, cultural art, this is the place.

The Troll Museum in Tromso, Norway is a unique and entertaining exploration of the mythical creatures that have long been a part of Norwegian culture. Unlike the internet trolls we're familiar with, these are the original trolls from Norse mythology, representing chaos and paganism. The museum offers an hour-long immersive experience for both kids and adults, showcasing the rich cultural significance of these creatures.
Did have the city pass but also saw people buying at the front desk. The place is small but packed with a lot of information. Had a good kids room with different exhibits and activities. I did like the interactive exhibits like the sand to build your own land.

Airport
Tromsø Airport, a small and modernized hub for flights to Finnmark, underwent renovations in 1998. The airport is currently undergoing further renovation, resulting in some areas being inaccessible and occasional drilling noise. Despite its small size and odd layout due to the ongoing renovations, the airport offers basic amenities such as a store and restaurants with charging sockets for electronic devices. Travelers can easily reach the city center via express buses 40 or 42 at an affordable price.
Visited Tromsø to see the Northern Lights, and the airport experience was great. Well-organized, with excellent public transport—buses to the city are frequent and easy to use. The staff were friendly and helpful, making everything smooth. Despite winter weather, the airport was clean, efficient, and hassle-free. A great start to my trip!

Airport of Tromso, Norway. Its an international airport, so theres many flights fly both in and out internationally. The drive way into the airport is a bit confusing
Sandee T — Google review
Very good, clean, easy parking & beautiful airport. **Warning** But must be very very careful with most of the car rentals in this airport. Most of them are trying their very best to scam or taking an advantage on you especially when they see you in a bit of difficulties or desperate to rent a car. They kinda work as a team eventhough from different companies. (all their counter just next to each others)

Maya V — Google review
Tromsø Airport is a small but efficient (when it works) facility with straightforward access to the city center. While Uber availability can be challenging, local taxis or the city express bus (around 125 NOK per person) are reliable alternatives. The airport features automated check-in kiosks, though the security process can be slow due to the need to remove all electronics. Overall, it’s functional and convenient for its size, but plan for extra time at security. One of the biggest problems with the airport is the lack of any airline staff. We had a tough issue of the airline (Transavia) not recognizing the valid ticket issued by Delta .. despite going over all the details and working with the Delta agent on the phone for nearly 1 hour, they wouldn’t honor (Delta reissued the ticket with the new numbers). The airport staff just raised their hands saying we can’t talk to Transavia. Very stressful situation. Automated kiosks for the luggage would not accept the luggage over 20kg forcing us back to the line almost making us miss our flight.

MS Polstjerna, a well-preserved sealing ship, is part of the Tromso Museum and offers a glimpse into the lives of its former crew who were seal hunters. The ship, built in 1949 by Moens Batbyggeri, had 33 fishing seasons between 1949 and 1981 during which it harvested nearly 100,000 seals from the West Ice and East Ice.
This is genuinely a great place to come for a an hour or two. I’ve never been to a museum where you can get so in touch with the exhibit. This is an old boat used to hunt seals, it’s very matter of fact and aims to teach you the reality of what these hunters went through. I loved being able to experience the boat fully, sitting in the kitchen, sleeping in the beds, going below deck, going into the main navigation room and pressing all the buttons! It’s refreshing they let you do that and the experience is amazing because of it!! Really really you should come to see this, I think kids would love this well and the narration on your phone is very good. Don’t forget to go downstairs to see about polar expeditions!!

Full Steam Tromsø AS is a new restaurant located in a historic warehouse by the harbor in Tromsø. The building, known as the Bangsund building, doubles as a museum showcasing vintage tools and artifacts from the cod and stockfish industry that once drove Norway's economy. The proprietor's roots in Lofoten bring an authentic connection to the fishing heritage of the region.
Definitely would recommend this restaurant! Cool atmosphere, very friendly staff, tasty food! We ordered caviar for a starter because neither of us had ever tried it. It was a little to fishy for us, but we're glad we gave it a shot. For mains, I got the whale steak and really enjoyed it. It was similar to a beef steak, just more tender and less meaty of a taste. My wife got the salmon and it was phenomenal. We ordered the cheesecake for dessert and it hit the spot to close the meal. Thanks so much!
Joseph P — Google review
Had the reindeer stew and fish soup. While the food is good, €65 for a bowl of soup and stew is quite pricy even for local standards. It’s a nice place to sit at though. The interior is very cozy and if the weather is good, can always sit out at the pier and the view is really nice. Check out the menu first before deciding if you want to dine here.

Loved it ! Came here after flying in from Frankfurt and had a lovely late lunch with fresh salmon, cod and salad. Free tap water. Prices are high as everywhere here around the harbour. Sun stays long here in the afternoon...

One rushed waiter, small portions, high prices, whale steak was luke warm (almost cold) and a bit hard to cut with ordinary knife. Apple cake was nice though! Flat tonic served with arctic gin - not good. Probably catering for tourists, and one-time clients - can't imagine anyone wanting to return in a hurry. Whilst waiter spent a lot of time on mobile phone, kitchen staff had to bring out dishes to waiting customers - seemed unprofessional.
Jane W — Google review
A decent "pub" like place to eat and/or drink in Tromso. We decided to give this place a go since it offered up some interesting dishes! Overall it was an "okay" experience, with the service and atmosphere rating slightly above the quality of the food. We started with the platter that offered up a variety of their starters, including whale jerky, cos tongue, caviar and garlic shrimp. Probably the favourite out of the selection was the cod tongue, since it was dried and breaded, so it tasted like any good fried and breaded things. The whale jerky was what got us interested, and, personally... I think whale is an acquired taste? Hard to describe, but my experience with it is that, it had an unexpected taste? It was overly fishy, but also wasn't fishy? I know that might not have made sense, but see for yourself if you're keen! For the mains, we all tried different mains and shared it. We got: the clams/mussels; reindeer burger; whale steak and the cod. Again, the whale steak was very different to what I was expecting, it was much "meatier" than expected, tastes more gamey/meaty than "fishy" the mussels were ok... Nothing too special and the cod was a bit dry. The reindeer burger was surprisingly good and, personally, was my favourite. Overall, the food was ok - a good experience to try these local delicacies whilst in Tromso/Norway. The price was maybe on the higher side? For context, we had a very nice lunch in Mathallen, ordered 5 mains with a bottle of bubbles to share and it was roughly the same price.. whereas we ordered 4 mains, a started and 1 glass of wine and a beer (same amount of people) at this place... Overall, I think it's worth a visit if you're curious to try some local delicacies! You'll still come out of it full and feeling okay!

The Perspective Museum, housed in a neoclassical estate, is a unique cultural institution in Tromsø. It boasts an extensive collection of over 500,000 photographs that offer a diverse perspective on the city's past and present. The museum presents these images in a documentary-style format to provoke discussions on various cultural and societal topics. Additionally, it features works by local and international photographers as well as artifacts from other museums, making it a valuable research center.
LOVED this museum. They currently have (until Jan 17 2027) an amazing show about the life and work of a Sara Fabricius who also wrote under the pseudonym Cora Sandel. The exhibition (over 2 floors) highlights cultural-historical objects from the artist’s own life, and the exhibition is introduced with a biographical cartoon strip by Anneli Furmark. She lived in Tromso in her early adulthood before moving to Paris. But she later returned to Norway and passed away in 1974 at age 93. This is the second of three exhibitions about the author and visual artist Cora Sandel/Sara Fabricius (1880–1974). NOTE: There is a mural on a building across the street from the museum that I think may be honoring the artist.

I mean, can you really fault a free museum??? When I visited they had an exhibit about religion which is not really my thing (like, at all) but I enjoyed looking at the pictures- such awesome quality! Then upstairs they had a lot of shots from Tromso 50-60 years ago which was really cool to see.

An enjoyable tour of this museum which has frequently changing exhibits. For my visit was of Cora Sandal's work (artist and author) from Tromsø. It was a thought provoking exhibition with lots of intriguing artworks. A particular highlight for me was the listening room where we could hear extracts of the written works. This is no longer free entry, unless a student. I am pleased my student card meant this did not cost us lots, as we are not knowledge about this artist and author beforehand so arrived out of curiosity instead of love. The museum is over 3 floors so if stairs are impossible then maybe ask if they have a solution before paying. They have toilets (free) and coat lockers with keys outside in the lobby and by the toilets inside. Enjoyed it. We are unlikely to need to visit this exhibit twice but would return to see a different experience next trip.

This is a photography museum. The exhibitions on display when I visited were Red Utopia, which was about the presence of communism in countries around the world even today. The photographer does a very good job of showing their stories. Homo Religiosus was another one which, as the name suggests, was about various religions, their evolution and it's importance in people's lives. Overall, I liked the presentations; and since the entry to this museum is free, there is no harm in visiting it.
Poonam N — Google review
Wonderful curator work blending photography projects ‘Red Utopia’, an exhibition of Jan Banning (Dutch) capturing supporters of Communism at various locations around the globe with local Tromsø historical photography by world renown, home-grown Tromsø artist, Knut Stokmo. An additional social enhancement weaved in called ´Homo Religiosus ‘ highlighting all the religions active locally in Tromsø Norway. Exhibitions which triggers the deep thought of the individual visitor!

Bodies of Water
Prestvannet Lake, located in Tromso, Norway, is a picturesque freshwater lake surrounded by verdant scenery and friendly ducks. Originally built as a reservoir in 1867, it now serves as a nature reserve and recreational area. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls along scenic walking trails or take the bus to reach this elevated spot for hiking during the day or waiting for the Northern lights on clear nights.
This place is a Northern Lights hidden secret. Just got a short taxi ride from the centre of Toronto. Go from the car park at the side of the lake to the viewing platform and you will see some amazing Northern Lights if the sky is clear on the best days. There is no need to pay a huge amount or a tour guide as it is so easy to find. Then walk back to town around half an hour and stop at egons for a drink and to celebrate what you saw.

I like the place really to walk and relax! We was there many day to catch the aurora butwe found nothing 😅 It’s just nice place to watch the stars ⭐️✨
Shadi A — Google review
Really great spot to try to see the northern lights (or even shooting stars). I was there just yesterday and the night before (from around 9 p.m. till midnight) and saw them both times (thanks to the great weather conditions). Perfect option for people without a car, since one can easily reach the lake with the bus and also not a long drive from the city, but far enough that the sky is actually dark enough to see the aurora. Side note: In winter you very likely see the lake at all, because it usually freezes over and will be covered in snow. You can sit on the railing of the rack, makes for a nice spot to enjoy the show! Side note for solo travellers: there will probably be other people out to try and see the northern lights so you won't be alone.

We were informed that northern lights may be visible here. We decided to give it a show. We arrived at 10:30 and saw lights about an hour after. Give it a shot! You never know. We saw them in cloudy weather. Park looked nice. It was night time and many people walking, skiing, sledding, and just hangout. Big lake in the middle that freezes in the winter. We saw people on the lake but I wouldn’t risk it. Cute park.

Fantastic place in the city centre!!!! Calm and beautiful with many species of the birds. Wonderful tracks around. Strongly reccommend.

A lake area is ideal for walking and jogging. About 2.5-3 kms away from the centre of Tromsø, the area has residential houses surrounded nearby and is served by a motorable road. Regular route buses operate till nearby road and connect to the centre of Tromsø. Being dark sky after sunset and wide open skyline above and surrounding the lake area, the place is recommended/frequented to watch Northen Lights/Aurora after sunset hours.

Art gallery
Magic Ice Bar Tromsø is a unique Nordic winter wonderland constructed from natural ice, featuring an art gallery with sculptures and narratives that trace the paths of explorers Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen. The entire establishment, including the walls, chairs, tables, and glasses, is crafted from ice. Visitors can immerse themselves in the history of Norwegian adventurers while enjoying a drink in an ice glass.
It's not exactly a bar, but more like an Ice Age experience. It's a unique place for families, and the kids usually enjoy it even more than the adults. For grown-ups, it's a fun way to test how well your clothes handle the cold. Either way, you'll be given a poncho there. The photos turn out great, even though you'll only stay for a short time—because it's really cold! The drink is tasty, but the main idea isn't really to go there for the drinks
ANA L — Google review
A little expensive but also a great experience. The Ice bar was fun. They offer you an alcoholic or non alcoholic drink upon entering. Walking through the rooms of carved ice was a treat. Sit on the fur seats and enjoy your drink.

Visiting Magic Ice Bar was such a nice experience! The atmosphere is truly unique — everything made of ice, from the glasses to the sculptures, creates a magical vibe. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the drinks were great. It’s definitely something special to experience while in Tromsø!

-7, absolutely freezing as expected. Small little bar with lovely ice sculptures. Drinks were great, served in ice cups. Use the package for two drinks as opposed to one, better value that way. 30 mins is all you need. Worth doing for the experience alone. Very welcoming. Thanks 👍
Callum R — Google review
My partner and I had a lot of fun at the ice bar. It is small but the sculptures and ice art are very well done and it is a fun experience overall. It’s nothing spectacular but it is something different. After paying, the staff help you put on an over-all jacket, like a cape for some warmth. The room is cold !! On entrance to the ice bar, you get a welcome drink from the menu, there is alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks available. We took plenty of pictures and had fun going around. It doesn’t take too long as it is essentially one room. I would recommend coming here for the experience.
Aoife W — Google review
Typical "ice bar" with some cool ice sculptures. A little expensive, but I'd recommend the package that gets the second drink at a discounted price so it's worth your time. Something fun to do on an evening out!
Victoria H — Google review
Was an alright experience. The ice sculptures were very impressive with nordic stories attached to them. The staff were friendly and helpful. However expensive for what it is £26 each for the 'bring on the cold'. The drinks were not great ( very sweet). We only spent about 30 minutes in there as it started to get crowded at 2 ( we arrived at 1.30). No food options that I was made aware of. I do think they could have a better buisness model to attract more buisness/ interest in the right way.
K B — Google review
Great experience in this bar. After entry you receive a welcome drink and you can stay as long as you want. Wrap up well as everything is made of ice so very cold inside, a large covering is provided but your own hat and gloves are essential.

Sauna Pust in Tromsø is a popular choice for visitors to the city. This sauna is located in a floating wooden structure on the harbor, offering stunning views of the Arctic Cathedral. Guests can easily take refreshing dips in the sea as it's right on the water. The facility also includes a swimming pool, sauna, and fitness rooms. Visitors appreciate the opportunity to unwind after a day of exploring tourist attractions.
Unforgettable experience. The sauna shall be booked online and the price is very cheap, especially there are some discounts for students. I paid around 230 Swedish krones for 2 persons. You just do self check in and go inside without any interaction

A really nice, clean sauna experience with beautiful views. There’s a quiet sauna and a larger, social sauna. I was there in September and there was lots of availability. There are change rooms.

Worth it!! Relax in the steamy Nordic sauna and then test your limits with a cold plunge (or jump) into the Norwegian Sea! Great experience, easy check-in and a fun way to make new friends. 10/10 highly recommend!

Amazing place. Such a relaxing time in the Sauna with amazing views over Tromso. The arctic dip is definitely a must on a visit to Tromso, very refreshing
Lynda C — Google review
Absolutely amazing experience would 100% even to those who don't usually swim or sauna. It is beautiful. I would recommend going between 9.30 am and 3.30 pm in the winter as its still twighlight (we went in late November). We went at 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm ( hence the change of light in the pictures). We did the lavuu the classic looked good to. Think it depends on timings. I would say the lavvuu is more social however everyone was respectful of space, belongings and voices. The changing rooms are small so arrive knowing that you need to change quickly. There are no toilets. Shower outside is still cold water but just not as cold as the Arctic!!
K B — Google review
Soul cleansing experience in Tromsø. The traditional Sami sauna felt scenic with the large windows looking out onto the water and landscape and maintained a great temperature the whole time even with people coming in and out. It is laid out so that you can socialise or close your eyes and listen to people enjoying the atmosphere with their old and new friends. The cold dip was very refreshing and well laid out with a ladder to go down into. The whole thing was very easy to book online, easy to find, and simple to navigate around. Some considerations that may be useful to others to expect: there is diesel run off from all the boats in the harbour which unfortunately comes into the area where you take a cold plunge. It can be washed off easily but some people may be sensitive to this. The changing room is very basic in a very small space with one small cold shower which can be a bit cosy when it is busy…be prepared to rub shoulders with your fellow sauna-goers! The storage in the changing room was open with no possibility to lock things away and sadly my t-shirt was stolen. I would definitely visit again but would go without valuables, fewer clothes, and I would plan to head straight back to your hotel for a warm shower and change out of slightly damp clothes rather than walking around town or going for lunch.
Sagar S — Google review
The lavvo sauna itself is really nice, super warm and love the layout. The change-rooms however could be improved, at least with a privacy screen at the door? The door opens right into the change-rooms and its a bit uncomfortable with tourists walking by the door and taking photos. Also, be prepared for no washrooms!
Lauren P — Google review
They have no lockers in changing rooms and the access code to those rooms is just written on check-in desk. So basically anyone could inter rooms. The changing rooms are tiny, and comfortable for no more than five people. They told you that the last 10 minutes of your hour is for changing, so you gonna spend less time in sauna than you would expect. The sauna itself was good.

This was such a fun experience in Tromso and a must do for anyone looking to leave with the most beautiful unique souvenir. We signed up for the jewelry making workshop to create from scratch gold rings. Price online is only for the cost of the workshop; make sure to add on the cost of whatever piece of jewelry you choose to make as well. Dagmar is really wonderful, sweet, patient, and a great instructor. You get to create your jewelry molds, melt down gold and pour it into molds, and then shape, file, and form your unique handcrafted beautiful jewelry piece. Highly recommend reaching out and doing a jewelry making workshop here! It also has a jewelry store if you don't have time to create something . You'll definitely find beautiful unique and organic pieces to add to your collection.

(Translated by Google) The best tour in Tromsø to see the Northern Lights! Seeing the auroras always depends on the weather, but Eli, the guide, does absolutely everything possible to give you the best chance of seeing them. I was only in Tromsø for a few days and I'm so grateful that she let me know in advance that the day I had scheduled wouldn't be good due to cloudy weather. She helped me reschedule the tour, something I really appreciate because it demonstrates her ethics and commitment to ensuring you truly experience them. Eli is extremely thorough, explains everything about the auroras in a clear and entertaining way, and also makes sure you get a good photo with them—she's a fantastic photographer! The tour can be done in Spanish or English, which is also a huge plus. I highly recommend this company. It was an unforgettable experience. (Original) ¡El mejor tour en Tromsø para ver auroras boreales! Raketten Bar & Pølse is a small, one-person hot dog stand located in the center of Tromso. It's known for serving the most delicious reindeer and pork hotdogs with homemade ciabatta buns and a variety of toppings. The kiosk, which claims to be the smallest bar in the world, has been a mainstay in the community since 1911 and is considered an Important Cultural Monument.
What’s this cute little hut?! I got curious and went closer… It’s a reindeer hot dog stand! Wait… reindeer? As in… Santa’s reindeer? 😳 I hesitated for a moment, ready to accept that Santa might not bring me gifts next year — but I decided to try it anyway. There was a line of people, it’s right in the city center, and since reindeer meat sounds rare, I thought it would be super expensive. But it was only 70 NOK — about the same as fries at McDonald’s nearby! 🍟 As for the taste: It’s a reindeer & beef sausage, but honestly, it just tastes like a really good regular hot dog! I probably couldn’t tell the difference if someone told me it was just beef. 😂 The pickled topping adds a nice sour touch that goes perfectly with the sausage. I originally went just for the “I ate reindeer!” experience, but the hot dog itself was actually really tasty and well-made. 🌭✨ You can sit by a campfire on reindeer fur right next to the stand — such a cozy and magical experience! 🔥❄️
ASUMI K — Google review
Beautiful place on the main square. With rich history (we got to hear it from the lady working there). The selection of hot dogs is enough and the prices are reasonable. There’s a place to eat them near the booth. They also have many drinks and beer on tap. I recommend!

The cutest hotdog hut with delicious reindeer hotdogs! A Must try in Tromsø. We got the reindeer dog with potato salad, crispy onions, ketchup and hotdog sauce. Super friendly staff who listed all the toppings for us and shared our excitement as first-time visitors.

We had planned visiting here before our Norwegian cruise and it didnt disappoint. We had the reindeer and beef hotdogs and tried a local dark and light beer. All of it was incredible as was the service which came with a friendly smile. Loved it! Would definitely recommend a visit.
Simon H — Google review
If you’re visiting Tromsø, there’s one local tradition you simply have to experience: grabbing a hotdog from the famous outdoor stand in the city center. I went recently, and despite the long line snaking through the icy air, it was absolutely worth it. They offer a surprising variety of options — reindeer, beef, pork, and even vegetarian — so there’s something for everyone. I tried the reindeer hotdog, and it was fantastic: flavorful, hearty, and exactly what you want when you’re standing outside in Arctic temperatures. The service is extremely friendly and impressively fast, which is great because nobody wants to stand in the cold longer than necessary. One detail that really surprised me: you can order not just hot drinks and sodas, but also alcohol. For an outdoor spot, that’s pretty cool and adds to the relaxed, festive atmosphere. There is some covered seating, which helps a bit with the wind, but you’re still outside. In colder weather, a small heater would make the experience even more comfortable — though honestly, the chill feels like part of the whole Tromsø vibe. Prices are very decent, especially considering Norway’s usual food costs. All in all, it’s easy to see why this is a local tradition. If you’re in Tromsø, don’t skip it. It’s simple, delicious, and uniquely Northern Norwegian — everything a good street-food stop should be.
Joanna — Google review
Raketten Bar & Pølse is a fun and cozy spot with great hot dogs and a lively atmosphere. Perfect for a quick bite or a casual drink. Friendly staff and a unique vibe make it a nice place to stop by.
Denis — Google review
We had two stops here for a quick bite on our recent visit in Tromsø. The "classic toppings" reindeer & beef hotdog was delicious and appetising. The second time I went for something different, opting for crispy onion and gherkins as toppings. Yet again - amazing. Mulled wine with almonds and raisins was also good and would suggest trying it, even if you're not a wine person like me. The tables behind the kiosk are quite limited but people are always open to share a seat with you so there is the option to eat & drink there instead of on foot.
Simeon A — Google review
Expect a long queue any time during the day. It is 100% touristy, however, absolutely worth it. We went twice and tried the classic combo. We loved it and would come again!

Smørtorget is a charming square located in the heart of Tromso, offering a cozy and warm atmosphere. The area is surrounded by quaint bakeries and galleries, making it an ideal spot to enjoy the aroma of fresh pastries while immersing yourself in local art and culture. It's also known as a great place for people-watching, where you can relax with a cup of coffee and observe the locals.
Since day one, this place caught my eye. It's located in a very nice corner. And once you are Inside, it just gets better. Super cozy. Has old fashioned furniture, and decoration . Feels like you are coming into great grandma's home . And food is very good. Great quality and flavor.

Quite a nice cafe in Tromso city. Can grab a quick lunch or early dinner here. Large bright seating area with an open view of the streets outside makes it quite nice to sit in. Good section of sandwiches and also baked items. Coffee is good and while it’s crowded the turnover is fast so no issues getting a table.
Teck B — Google review
Cutest little café with delicious snacks and large portions of coffee. Service is nice and there is free tap water. Cozy ambience.
Katherina F — Google review
Quirky local-feel café with a very welcoming attitude. Cosy and intimate seating (upholstered couches for example) is dispersed amongst Norwegian history artefacts. There are even two private side rooms if you want more privacy. The staff were welcoming and seemed please to see us - as they did with all customers whether they seemed local or not. There were several people (presumably local) catching up with work on laptops or sitting reading quietly suggesting it’s a good place to go because the locals do. The drinks were good. We only had bakery items to eat but they were delicious. ♿️ Access would be a bit difficult as the way in is a bit convoluted, and the space between table la etc very limited and felt obstructed. Having said that the staff seemed friendly and I’m sure they would offer to help. 🐕 The place declares itself as dog-friendly. ⏰ Don’t believe the times on the door. They didn’t seem to apply then day we were there. The door said they were closing at 1700 but they happily served well after that. Just don’t rely on that.

Lovely café with good selection of pastry and small dishes. Large seating area, two bathrooms. We were a bit worried based on the pictures and its old school vibe but it was lovely and pretty. Based on my experience, I would say it is the best café we have been in Tromsø.

Vintage vibes galore, Nordic grandma version (this is a compliment). Old furniture, atmospheric old-school house appliances and plenty of space to sit. There is wifi (if you ask) the (friendly) staff who is also very happy to advise you on drinks. Can't really speak to the quality of food, cos I only had tea (still too poor for eating out in Norway), but giving it 5 stars as a vote of confidence.

Had a hot chocolate here and it was so good, however a bit expensive. The vibe in the place was amazing though.

Hot chocolate with cream, a brownie, and a salami sandwich were delicious. I highly recommend the apple cake. The establishment is popular, so it was quite busy when we visited on Saturday afternoon.

Nestled in the heart of Tromsø, Helmersen Delikatesser is a delightful haven for food lovers seeking a taste of both Scandinavian and continental culinary traditions. This charming delicatessen showcases an impressive selection of high-quality cheeses from Norway, including local favorites like Kraftkar and Munkeby, alongside exquisite offerings from Italy, France, and Spain.
A place with very nice atmosphere with several ways of seating, booth or table setting are both available. The food was very delicious, great sauces on both the Halibut and Reindeer. Service was amicable and well informed on wine and food.

A warm cappuccino and even warmer service! We’re on a 17-day cruise through Norway, and Tromsø was today’s port of call. After walking extensively—including all the way across the Tromsø Bridge and back—my husband had a serious craving for a cappuccino. We tried two coffee shops before this one. The first had a 10-minute wait. The second told us they couldn’t make the cappuccino hot enough and offered to microwave it (no thanks!). Then we found **Helmersen**, right next door. A young man behind the counter confidently told my husband he could make it *extra hot*. He absolutely delivered—my husband was *so* happy. This place turned our afternoon around. Friendly service, a cozy atmosphere, and most importantly, a cappuccino made *just right*. Highly recommend if you’re in Tromsø and in need of a great coffee and even better attitude.

Amazing experience once again. We visited in 2023 on a cruise, and again just a few days ago. The breakfast was incredible, and all three of us could not stop raving about it. Great service, great food, great drinks. Only slight disappointment was that the granola mixture and jam is not available to buy to take home - missing a trick here, guys. Hope to see you again before too long.

Excellent wine bar with a menu, not large, but good. I had the roastbeef sandwich and it was tasty. Good and polite service. And if you love all thing Italian to eat, you can get almost everything in this place. An extra star for the cleanliness of the toilet! Very big handicap toilet, that was sooo clean.

Nestled in the heart of Tromso, Emmas Dream Kitchen is a culinary treasure that invites you to embark on an unforgettable gastronomic journey through the Arctic. This charming restaurant beautifully blends traditional and contemporary flavors, showcasing a menu brimming with local produce and unique Arctic ingredients. While its interior may have a vintage charm, don’t let that deter you; this beloved eatery is celebrated for its exceptional offerings, including fresh fish and local delicacies like braised reindeer leg.
We enjoyed delicious food here, and also enjoyed very warm service and pleasant atmosphere. We had a table in the bar. The pumpkin soup was absolutely exquisite — the highlight for me. Every dish we had at the table (soup, cheese platter, burger, tenderloin, pork, and chocolate ganache) was wonderful. Flavors both bold and subtle, everything prepared and presented lovingly. Our server, Michael, was lovely and attentive. I am so thankful we brought our family here when they were in town — delivered 10/10.

I had the 6-course tasting menu which was good and the service was very good. What makes this a 3 vs. a 4 or 5 star restaurant for me is the decor and vibe of the upstairs dining room. That kind of quaint old-fashioned style just doesn't resonate with me.
Irma Z — Google review
Overall a great experience. The food was really delicious and the atmosphere was very warm and inviting. But what stood out most, is the amazing young British man who served us. One of the best services I ever got, he was really nice, understanding and patient. Because of him I came back again, and he even recognised me! :)

Really excellent place. We didn’t have reservations, but we’re able to eat at the bar. Michael was just the best server and host possible. For visiting for town definitely check it out. Book ahead and make a reservation if you want to have their six or nine course taste menu upstairs. Bar is casual with à la cart options

Fantastic food, just different from other places where it is same old stuff. Wonderful service by Michael. Thank you kindly! Went back the next evening and it was very good again. Make sure you make a reservation in advance though, as the bar is full for dinner very quickly.

Amazing and friendly service. The food was divine, the stunning norwegian cheeses (blue is wow) followed by the beef tenderloin and market fish of the day, some of the mosy flavorsome food we have ever eaten, the chef really knows what they are doing!! Thank you!

I had a fantastic dinner here! I started with a plate of local cold cuts, followed by the soup of the day—a creamy shrimp-based delight—and finished with the catch of the day, perfectly cooked. Every dish was flavorful and fresh. Highly recommended!

Unforgettable Dining Experience If you're in Tromsø and seeking an extraordinary culinary adventure, Emma's is the place to be. Celebrating my birthday here last Saturday was a decision we will never regret. I want to extend my compliments to the chef and all the staff. We opted for the 9-course menu with wine pairing, and the entire experience was exceptional. The staff were incredibly attentive, and the wine pairing was flawless. Though I didn’t keep track of the specific wines and cider, I wholeheartedly recommend opting for the full menu with wine pairing. Each dish was exquisite, but the deconstructed soup and the carpaccio stood out for me. As someone who usually isn’t a fan of soup, this one truly captivated me. The carpaccio was simultaneously simple, tender, and bursting with flavor. A heartfelt thank you to Klaus and Annie for creating such a memorable evening. With the midnight sun, we lost track of time! We will undoubtedly return to Emma's on our next visit to Tromsø.

Great staff, very kind and informative. The place is a temporary address for the contemporary art museum. I went to see an exhibition about bogs. The exhibition is small but very interesting. Free entrance and many books related to environment and natural sciences.

Visited when they had the analog polar film exhibition. Very powerful and well organized. Chatted for a bit with the lovely lady on the entry. Krane Kunstgalleri in Tromsø is an absolute gem for art lovers. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff are incredibly attentive, happily sharing insights about the local artists featured in the gallery. Alongside impressive larger artworks, they also offer smaller prints and greeting cards—ideal for travelers looking to take a piece of Northern Norway home. One highlight I really enjoyed was the series of fish head sculptures mounted on the wall by the window—quirky, charming, and definitely eye-catching! I didn’t take any photos during my visit, which felt appropriate to respect the artwork and the gallery setting. The gallery is conveniently located right on Tromsø’s main shopping street and even connects to an interior design shop next door, making it a great stop for both art and design enthusiasts. Definitely worth a visit!

Scenic spot
Prestvannet is a picturesque lake located at the highest point of Tromso island, just a short distance from the city. This natural reserve is a haven for various bird species, including rare ones like the shy red-throated loon. In summer, it's bustling with birdlife and locals enjoying the outdoors, while in winter, if you're confident about ice safety, you can skate under the mesmerizing northern lights.
I mean we saw the Aurora here, so it has to be 5 stars! The park was dark so I can't comment on much but as a location to view the northern lights, it's very good. It is still very much a city location so light levels will never be low but as it is only a short drive, taxi trip or bus ride from the centre, it's a great option for those unable to travel into open countryside.
Nick D — Google review
Great spot to walk around in the morning and watch the northern lights in night (although it's still bit bright). In the middle of the city, many entries

Monika S — Google review
We stayed in an airbnb near the park and it was a very good decision. We were able to see the northern lights directly from the park. It’s a beautiful place and I would totally recommend at least walking around the lake and enjoying the view.
Alina M — Google review
I came here to see the northern lights. It’s quite dark and the path can be hard to walk, so I recommend bringing a flashlight or headlamp. I actually saw a beautiful, big aurora around 12:30 AM! However, since the city lights are a bit close, the aurora looked slightly faint here. If you want a darker spot, Telegrafbukta is a bit better and easier to see from — I definitely recommend checking it out! I’ll share a comparison video of how the aurora looked from different spots on YouTube, so feel free to check it out for reference! 🎥 @asumikumano

The Vulkana Supper Club hosts pop-up dinner parties with renowned chefs cooking onboard for limited guests. The Vulkana Arctic Spa provides a serene escape with wood-fired saunas and heated outdoor hot tubs, surrounded by breathtaking views.
What an incredible concept and experience! I had booked an earlier time slot, so we were the first ones on the boat. The host was so lovely and accommodating, she showed us the entire boat and adjusted temperatures to our liking since no one else was onboard yet. We enjoyed the sauna, Hamam, cold plunge, and the hot tub. It was a bit cold to do the polar plunge into the water, but I did other guests do it after our arrival. Lovely space! Really enjoyed our time here, left feeling super relaxed and recharged.

For 40 and under highly recommended. For me at 70, the Home Depot ladder or 10 foot jump was a bit of a stretch. Still, we did it all and the sauna has a very nice vibe. Sara was a great host and her playlist was super.

This place is really good. You can enjoy both dry and wet sauna, hot spring and relax yourself inside the boat. The most special part is, you can jump into the Arctic Ocean! We do it under the temperature of -2”C. It’s very crazy but amazing experience. The staffs are so nice and talkative. We chatted a lot. Very suggest this experience when you travel Tromso

We spent an unforgettable Ski & Sail trip on the Vulkana with Lilo, Gabi, Hogne, and Soren. The crew went way beyond expectations — Lilo even dove in and served us fresh sea urchin straight from the ocean! The food was next-level (that cod soup from the fisherman’s catch and the legendary steak dinner with lingonberries...), the hot tub was unbeatable after skiing, and the space on the boat is laid out perfectly. So much room, cozy bedrooms — felt better than my own place in Zürich. Huge thanks for making every little wish happen, even with all our crazy food allergies!

It was a truly relaxing experience, in rainy Tromsø! The outdoors hot tub had an amazing view to the bridge, the Arctic Cathedral and the rest of the harbour. The rotation between hot and cold was rejuvenating! Our host, David, was extremely friendly and helpful. I'm happy we didn't miss out on this unique experience in Tromsø!

Absolutely fantastic experience. The staff were great and friendly. They went above and beyond. The ambiance of the ship was great with a mix of the original boat and high end spa features. The steam room was particularly excellent. The Arctic plunge was a once in a lifetime event not to be missed!

We did a Ski & Sail trip on the Vulkana and had the perfect crew. Lilo, Gabi, Hogne, and Soren are simply fantastic — warm, thoughtful, and always one step ahead to make everyone feel at home. Lilo rules the kitchen like a queen, serving incredible food that made every day even better. The atmosphere was effortless: professional when needed, familiar when it mattered. From unforgettable meals to evenings with local fishermen, everything felt genuine. Huge thanks for an amazing trip — would sail with you again anytime!

Macks Ølbryggeri As, located in the heart of Tromso, was once considered the northernmost brewery in the world until its production site was relocated. Despite this, it remains a must-visit destination. The in-house pub, Olhallen, offers a quaint atmosphere and an extensive selection of craft beers including those from Svalbard. The knowledgeable staff can assist you in finding the perfect brew to suit your taste.
As a beer connoisseur, I feel honored to get the chance to go to the most northern eldest brewery and pub in the world. Lots of good beer in Tromso's oldest pub so get a flight. If you can go on a tour at the brewery, do it. A bit of the same old at first but then they show you the tanks and how they brew to music! So cool!
Jessica W — Google review
Wanted to check a bucket list item: consume copious amounts of alcohol at the world’s northern most brewery - turned out a microbrewery opened in svålbard but still enjoyed this place, the beer selection is massive, they even had beer from svålbard & I count that as a win. Bartenders were very knowledgeable & their suggestions came correct. There’s also a taxidermied eisbär at the entrance. What’s not to love?
Zandie — Google review
The brewery is very nice and the people working there really kind and welcoming but the tour is not worth £20 per person! You watch a video for 20 min, you drink a small glass of beer while looking at some posters on the walls and then you go into a room with a few fermentation tanks. The brewery moved site so there is really not much left in Tromsø to see during the tour!!!

Floya is a stunning mountain in Tromso that can be reached via the Fjellheisen cable car. Visitors have the option to bring their bikes on the cable car and explore various paths down from the mountain. The hike to Floya peak offers breathtaking views of snowcapped mountains and a 360-degree panoramic view at the top. The trail features beautiful scenery including surrounding mountains, Tromso views, lakes, waterfalls, ponds, and flowers.
Pretty easy hike with plenty of nice scenery: the surrounding mountains, views of Tromsø, lakes, small waterfalls and ponds, flowers, or portions of snow. 💙

The best place to be while in Tromsø, especially when it’s sunny. To get here from Tromsø center you need to take the bus 26 or 40 and the rest is straight forward. For the cafeteria above, it gets very crowded so don’t count on it so much (I haven’t tried the restaurant near it since it closes on Sunday)

Amazing hike to Floya peak, with a view of the snowcapped mountains. Go beyond the pole for a 360 view. Some parts are covered with snow and rather steep so I slid down on my butt rather than try hard not to slip on my feet. It was fun!
