The Arctic Cathedral, a striking church in Tromso, Norway, is an architectural marvel with its pyramid shape and glass facade. Designed by Jan Inge Hovigand and inspired by the region's fiskeheller and lavvu, it stands out as a landmark. The spiral shape of the cathedral reflects the aurora borealis, while its titanium exterior mirrors the dancing lights in the sky.
The Arctic Cathedral is one of Tromsø's most iconic landmarks. It's located on the eastern side of the city, just across the Tromsøbrua Bridge in the Tromsdalen district. The cathedral resembles an iceberg or a Sami (Arctic indigenous) tent. The structure, made of white concrete and glass, contrasts with the sky and snow-capped mountains, symbolizing the beauty of the Arctic. Situated on a hillside with no tall buildings blocking the view, the Arctic Cathedral is a popular spot for viewing the Northern Lights during winter. The views are stunning, offering panoramic views of the city.

Beautiful place! If you opt for piblic transport you can direct get down at the nearest bus-stop, Very accessible place. And if you really want to visit by walking, I would suggest, stay there till the sunset, enjoy beautiful colors and head back. Its just 2-2.5 kms from harbor area.
Srilekha R — Google review
An inspiring piece of Nordic architecture with a relatively easy walk over the road bridge from the main part of Tromsø. The cathedral is slightly expensive for admission, and as we went a bit later in the day to see the stained glass lit up we didn't feel we would have had enough time inside for the cost. Other than that, it's a highly recommended place to visit if you are interested in Scandinavian design.
Caleb W — Google review
A modern structure sitting atop a hill, walkable from downtown area of Tromso. It is across the main bridge, about half an hour on foot or, by local bus. Since I'm not familiar with the bus route and I love walking, it suits me fine to cross the bridge. Make sure you walk on the path for pedestrians, not one for bicyclists. The wind is stronger across the bridge so bundle up. The cathedral was closed on the day I was in town, but it's nice to see the outside. A tall, erect structure in a giant triangle. There is not much outside to see, no garden, park or anything interesting so I didn't stay around long. Behind it is the route to the cable cars, interesting to take. $60 usd for the ticket if you like an aerial view of the town. The church itself is worth a walk to but unless it is open, visit nearby attractions such as the cable cars.
G D — Google review
I visited the Arctic Cathedral on a sunny day, and it was absolutely beautiful. The architecture is so unique, and the light made it shine even more against the mountains and water. The view from there was stunning, definitely one of my favorite spots in Tromsø.
Atria O — Google review
A very modern church, set on the opposite bank of the sound to the main town of Tromsø and a bit of a walk away. Technically not actually a cathedral (no cathedral/no bishop as the guide explained to me) it’s set beautifully amongst the mountains and fjords of the Arctic. There is a fairly hefty entrance charge but worth the money to see the beautiful stained glass that does set an atmosphere. Downstairs there are toilets and an array of photographs worth looking about for. Unlike some churches and cathedrals in this country for which we paid entrance, this one at least has a spiritual feel to it and the spiritual life of the place was evident. A description of the church didn’t seem available, nor did a guide, so it was a self-guided tour. ♿️ There are steps up to the heavy front door, and only half the door was opening, so quite narrow. And the cash desk at a funny angle difficult for wheelchair users. After paying there is another heavy glass door to negotiate. Once inside access is easy.
Peter W — Google review
Beautiful piece of architecture! The lights come on at night and it looks even more spectacular. There is a fee to visit it inside. Side walks can be quite slippery so do have proper walking gear or even shoe spikes.
Tavi T — Google review
As others have mentioned this isn't a cathedral, but it's an interesting church nonetheless. Entrance is 60 NOK, bit you can just enjoy it from the outside. There is 4 hours free parking in the rear car park.

Polaria aquarium is a unique and striking arctic aquarium located in Tromso, Norway. Housed in a modern building designed to resemble ice floes, the aquarium offers an interactive and educational experience focused on Arctic wildlife. Visitors can enjoy exhibits showcasing the impact of climate change on glaciers and Arctic wildlife. With its kid-friendly approach, Polaria is a must-visit attraction for families, offering a panoramic cinema and the opportunity to observe seals.
We absolutely loved it! A great place for the whole family. The seals were the highlight — graceful, clever, and fascinating to watch. The exhibitions are engaging and educational, offering insight into Arctic nature. We stayed for about 2 hours, but we could have easily stayed longer. The family ticket cost 740 NOK (around €70), which is worth it. Parking cost 60 NOK for 2 hours. The staff was friendly and helpful. The souvenir shop is excellent, with a wide selection of gifts and keepsakes. Highly recommend, especially for families with kids!
Daria B — Google review
Loved my time at the Polaria aquarium in Tromso where the seals were definitely the highlight. The aquarium itself aims to be more educational than "entertaining", especially where the seals are concerned and they definitely managed to achieve this. Initially skeptical, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed myself, and how well the seals are taken care of and respected. Definitely recommend it to both children and adults.
Nidhi M — Google review
Small aquarium but very nice exhibits. Some unique species since it focuses on arctic. It does have areas under construction so it is expanding. It has a very nice seal exhibit with tanks and a walk thru tunnel. 3 seal training sessions as well.
Thomas S — Google review
Such a fun place to visit! There are informational videos throughout the day, interactive exhibits and the seal feedings and trainings are open to watch. I would say the entry fee is slightly overpriced, but we still had a wonderful experience.
Victoria H — Google review
Little aquarium in Tromso, Norway. Its a fantastic place to bring family and group of friends. A great place to see the seal up close. We where there during winter, and the scenario outside the aquarium was just as great. Theres lots of activities for kids to learn about the oceanic life
Sandee T — Google review
Nice place. Plenty of information accessible, staff is humble and you can shop. Only downside is there internal fixes going on in the building which kid of ruins the vibe and variety of species is limited. If you want to see seals eat, visit at 12:30 pm😄
Srilekha R — Google review
We absolutely loved our visit to Polaria! It’s such a fascinating and family-friendly place — both educational and fun. The exhibitions, the aquarium, and especially the adorable seals kept us all entertained. Our little boy was so happy that he said, “This feels like heaven!” ❤️ Definitely a must-visit when you’re in Tromsø.
Andrei A — Google review
Not worth for the ticket price. Ticket is 34€ for adult and 18€ for kid. No much variety of fish except seals. Very small and limited stuff. I would not recommend to visit.

The Polar Museum, located in a charming wooden building by the harbor in Tromsø, is part of the Arctic University Museum of Norway. It showcases scientific, cultural, and archaeological exhibits related to the area's history and heritage. The museum delves into the city's origins as a hub for Arctic hunters and explorers, featuring captivating displays on exploration, hunting, and wildlife in Svalbard.
More interesting than expected! Remember to get the guide booklet in your preferred language when buying your tickets. Weekdays preferred as it’s less crowded. Pretty informative and lots of exhibits spread out over 3 floors. Some comments noted how things are a little gruesome but that’s the way of life for people in this part of the world in the past.
Teck B — Google review
It is really nice when you get there. You get to know the way of life in the North Pole and the polar history. Many representative items placed therein make it more realistic. The ticket is about 10€ per person. There are some souvenirs that you may also buy (prices are typical). A hard copy guide is given , free of charge, available in many languages.
Anna K — Google review
What an unforgettable experience when I visited it on 26 March 2025! The Polar Museum in Tromsø absolutely blew me away. It's incredibly well maintained, and every corner is packed with fascinating stories from the Arctic explorers and trappers who braved the extremes. I loved how all the information was available in multiple languages—it made everything so accessible and inclusive. The exhibits are a perfect mix of engaging history, incredible taxidermy, and authentic artifacts that truly transport you back in time. I could almost feel the chill of the polar expeditions just walking through! And speaking of chill—the temperature inside is so well controlled, making the whole visit comfortable, the temperature outside was just -2 degrees. Touching pieces of history and learning about the raw, untamed Arctic life left me deeply moved. A must-visit if you're in Tromsø. You'll leave with a whole new appreciation for the spirit of exploration!
Kalpesh G — Google review
Fantastic experience made even better, by the museum having booklets in different languages describing, each display.
J L — Google review
This is a good museum if you want to understand the history of the region. It provides some interesting context, but be prepared for crowds as it was quite busy.
Pablo C — Google review
Located in the heart of Tromsø, The Polar Museum (Polarmuseet) offers visitors a captivating journey into Norway’s Arctic past. Housed in a charming 19th-century warehouse by the harbor, this museum focuses on the lives of polar explorers, trappers, and whalers who ventured into some of the world’s harshest environments. It's not just a museum—it's a portal into the gritty, courageous world of Arctic survival and discovery. Inside, you’ll find detailed exhibits on legendary Norwegian explorers like Roald Amundsen and Fridtjof Nansen, who played key roles in conquering the North and South Poles. Through authentic artifacts, old photographs, and personal journals, the museum brings to life the extreme challenges these men faced, from bitter cold to months of isolation. There’s also a strong focus on hunting culture, especially the lives of seal hunters and trappers who once spent years living in Arctic wilderness. While this aspect can be controversial, the museum presents it with historical context, allowing visitors to reflect on both the resilience and the impact of human activity in the polar regions. Although it’s not large, The Polar Museum is rich in storytelling and atmosphere. The creaky wooden floors and dim lighting make it feel like stepping into a time capsule.
Phạm T — Google review
A really interesting and informative place which is a significant cultural and historical. It is housed in a historic warehouse from 1830 and offers insights into Arctic exploration, sealing, and the cultural history of Svalbard. The museum features permanent exhibitions on polar expeditions, including those of Roald Amundsen and Fridtjof Nansen, and temporary exhibitions in the Sea Warehouse. We enjoyed our visit immensely.
Ross D — Google review
Really interesting museum which covers many aspects of life and explorations in the artic circle. Covering survival, flying, scientific expeditions and making a living (including hunting seals etc). Many of the information boards did not contain english or very little however a free online app with free wifi avaible was well presented in english and had ample information. An English paper guide was loaned for the tour also but I found the app easier to use. The price is 120 NOK and allow 1-2 hours for the visit.

Ølhallen, the oldest pub in Tromso, has a rich history dating back to 1928. Initially exclusive to men with no toilet facilities for women, it eventually became more inclusive. The decor exudes old-school charm with its exposed brick, tiled floors, and hunting memorabilia. Situated near the Arctic Circle, Ølhallen offers a relaxed atmosphere where locals and visitors can savor Norway's finest beers and delicious food.
I don’t drink beer but I found the non alcoholic one js rather light and fresh! And the interior is so interesting! Good to see their movie about their history, and it was great experience.

The bar is well located and is very charming! It does not feel like a local spot but rather a tourist trap … They have an amazing selection of local beers. Keep in mind that the beers are pretty pricey (1 small glass of beer is about 12$CAD)
Juliette T — Google review
Great selection of local and international beers! The staff are friendly and knowledgable about their selection of beers. Super cool atmosphere and a great place to kick back and grab a drink.
Victoria H — Google review
Huge beer selection. They offer three different sizes so that was cool. I got a ginger viking drink and it just tasted like ginger ale. It was so delicious I loved it. Drinks were expensive. The place was very clean and cute. The bathrooms were kinda gross though they smelled like pee very strongly.
Kate C — Google review
Really great beer hall. The selection is fantastic, and it's all kept well. The interior has a cool brick design and is very comfortable. The taster boards are a really good way to try many recommended beers. The staff are pretty knowledgable about the beer as well.

What a cool place! Oldest pub in Tromsø and proper pub feeling. Maybe just missing a couple of TVs to show football! Loads of different beers and friendly staff. Place was clean and well maintained. Highly recommend!

Great downstairs pub in the main street & a haven from the snow. Famous old pub reeking of history. So many beers on tap to choose from, along with bottles, ciders & a couple of wines. Features Mack beers which are very good. Can buy beers in 3 glass sizes or a tasting plate for those who want to sample. Unfortunately not a lot of bar staff working when we were there so very busy when ordering. Good prices though.

Blårock Cafe is a popular dining spot in Tromso, offering a diverse range of local and international dishes for delivery through foodora. The cafe is renowned for its classic hamburgers and has been a buzzing institution for over 30 years. Its exterior, adorned with blue paint, reflects its name "Blå," which means blue in Norwegian. As the only bar in Tromso that exclusively plays rock music, it attracts a young crowd looking to enjoy evenings filled with this genre.
No complaints! Everything was great, awesome food, great service, fun atmosphere. Bartenders spoke very well English and they had English menus as well. You pick a table and order your food and drinks at the bar. They had many local beers on tap that were delicious! They had two local IPA choices and many different lagers and ales. We got the dirty fries they were so good we had to go back the next day for more. I got a pixies burger it had feta and balsamic on it. They had lots of unique burger choices. The posters on the wall were super cool and gave the place a nice vibe. The place was quiet and good to go with friends to chit chat. The food came out quick.
Kate C — Google review
Good burger but if it's the best in town it's disappointing. Atmosphere and decorations are really nice, don't go there for the burger only. Just so you know, you have to order at the bar and pay directly.
Julien — Google review
great atmosphere, seeing those kinds of posters is really nice (and the music too)!! the burgers were ok, a little bit expensive for what saw inside them, and the fries were tkt expensive. the salad was okay, but lacked flavor. to order, you need to go to the bar and ask otherwise no one will serve u.
Anahe — Google review
Absolutely one of the best burgers I’ve ever had in my life – and trust me, I’ve tried many as a true burger gourmet 🤣👌🏼 As a vegetarian, it’s often difficult to find tasty and satisfying options, but this place really delivers. They use the delicious Beyond Meat patty, and the burger I chose with blue cheese inside was simply incredible. Paired with their “dirty fries” in the veggie version (without bacon) and a refreshing, locally served IPA from the bar, it was the perfect meal. The restaurant itself has a fun, original vibe, the food is outstanding, and the team is genuinely warm and welcoming. If you’re in Tromsø and looking for amazing burgers – vegetarian or not – this is without doubt the best place I can recommend. A must-try for food lovers! 🍔✨

It was our first time here and the place was really cool and finally not some radio music but rock. We had burgers with fries. My burger was vegan and it was tasty. The fries had a good seasoning! I would recommend trying them for sure. Beer was good as well.

Blarock Café in Tromsø is an absolute must-visit! The highlight has to be their Beyond Meat burger. It’s juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The café itself has such a cool, relaxed vibe, with stylish décor and music that sets the perfect mood. It’s the kind of place where you can sit back, enjoy your food, and soak in the atmosphere. The staff are friendly and welcoming, making every visit feel special.

The dish was delicious, and the place was extraordinarily well decorated in a rock band and legends theme. However, the service was very slow. We were indeed a large group, but I was the first to order and pay and the last to be served and have dinner! Iloved the meal and the place anyway.

Great find in Tromso! My Initial thoughtsof this place was that it didn't have a very varied menu. But that didn't matter. I had the duck starter with demi glaze, and the sauce was so go, and went perfectly with the duck and salad, thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. Had the cod for mains and again everything on the plate just went so well, the corn espuma sauce was delicious with the fish...not sure the salsa really belonges there, but it didn't take anything away from the dish, so will just accept it there. Also the cod on its own was also tasty...unlike fish in other places that just taste bland without the other bits. The reindeer dish my partner had was also good. The chocolate fondant was also very nice. I had the aperol spritz cocktail which in most places is watered down with tonic, but not here, was just the aperol and sparkling wine and was well worthit. All in all was a really good experience and would recommend them. They also have a bar, which we didn't try, but could be nice to go for an after dinner drink. Only downside is, the tables were quite small! But that contributes to a cosy vibe...Still slightly bigger tables would be appreciated.
Ekleba O — Google review
The lady boss is super nice! They switch up the menu every two months, so don’t go by the food pics on Google Maps when you order – they won’t match. Kinda bummer the fish soup doesn’t come with bread, though. Highly recommend the local cake! It’s really unique – there’s this foam made with some special plant and berries, plus a base that’s like cookie crumbs. Super distinct, totally worth a try.

Run, don’t walk… one of my best meals in Norway! He had the meat of the day (short ribs), I had the lamb chops - wow - both were absolutely amazing! Very tasty and tender - so delicious!! I would highly recommend! Also had the veal tartare - delicious!!!

LOVED this place - very warm, convivial, great staff and the food was fantastic. I came here for late lunch on a Saturday and it was just perfect in every way - they sat me by a window and I could watch it snowing outside while I devoured the delicious fish soup. Churches & Cathedrals
Tromsø Cathedral, also known as Tromso Domkirke, is a stunning Protestant place of worship located in the heart of Tromsø. Built in 1861 by the renowned architect Christian Heinrich Grosch, it stands out as one of Norway's largest wooden churches and is considered the northernmost Protestant cathedral in the world. The Gothic Revival style and its unique construction using primarily wood make it a remarkable landmark.
Centuries old church with antique furniture, especially the pipe organ, makes a magnificent landmark. Free entry. Ticket booking required if you like to attend the prayer session on Sundays. It's worth to pay to listen the cathedral music of the magnificent pipe organ. It lies nearby the harbour for cruise ships and in the heart of the city. Several souvenir shops around there.

What a wonderful moment to visit this century wood church in Tromso. I went on Monday but it was closed. But I got to see its night view. Luckily I stayed nearby in town. So I went again on Tuesday. When stepped in to the church, I felt amazed of the building and atmosphere. Peaceful and calm. There was a lady playing old piano. Such beautiful piece and real experience. Thanks for keeping such priceless church.

A sacred symbol of the Arctic, this cathedral is Norway's largest wooden church in the world. Built in 1861 by architect Christian Heinrich Grosch, it stands out for its Gothic Revival wooden architecture. It is located in the heart of the city, close to the main street, Storgata. I stayed here for three nights, passing almost every time because of its central location. It is beautiful both day and night, and is peaceful, alive, and calming in itself.
Pisit P — Google review
It's lovely to see a wooden cathedral, which definitely gives it a different feel to most I have visited. There are some interesting information boards on the back wall that give some insight into the history of the building. Free entry and toilets are available. The only downside is there's no access to the balcony seating, which was a shame as I would have liked to have gotten a closer look at their older organ.

Great plaza right in front of the church in the heart of Tromso city. Nice park where you can sit down and relaxe enjoy your books or packed lunch.

Slightly strange. 80 NOK (around £5.70) to get in, but it's a church. No free pass to pray, these days? 🙏 Nothing inside, really, worth seeing. Warm, nice pews, and a great stained glass window (which might have been more impressive when it was not dark outside). A nice installation where you could move marbles into areas that matter to do. Sustainability and inclusively for me ... They were doing a sound-check for a concert later, so we had some guitar and piano bouncing off the walls and ceiling that was good ... All a little strange. Looks great from the outside though!

Our Havila cruise's southbound itinerary includes a 1.5-hour stop with an optional Midnight Concert tour at the Tromsø Cathedral. The concert features three musicians—a pianist, a singer, and a saxophonist—in a lovely cathedral setting. However, the performance is rather slow-paced, and some find it somnolent. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. I understand there are also daytime performances available. If you are on Havila cruise, I think it is best to utilize the limited time and explore the town rather than this Midnight Concert. Though shops are closed, they leave the beautiful lights on. However,if you stay in Tromso and want to stop by for a visit,I think it worthwhile.

Truly amazing! Great eclectic of food, loved the decor! Tequila infused Carolina Reaper is to take caution! Blueberry infused G&T was gorgeous and can't remember what my drink was but both were very good! 😍

Great atmosphere and unique food. They were definitely slow on service. We had a large group (30?) and expected some kind of dedicated staff to our reserved group. I hope they share more of the history of the building!

We had an amazing time is was a really cozy and beautifully decorated space perfect for the rainy day. The food was really good specially the bread was really soft and tasty, the chicken was seasoned really nicely and was perfectly crispy, the fish was a little small but tasty. We also tried two very good and unique orange wines they had a great selection. Lastly we also really enjoyed the rhubarb dessert. A little expensive but worth it.

Exceptional set menu and accompanying service. Flavours, food textures, presentations, and modern cocktails are on point. Perfect evening with friends in a beautifully restored surroundings. Even the background music had a cool style. Probably the best restaurant in town and very good value at that.

Thank you so much for the lovely experience! We had the chef’s choice and drinks pairing, it was amazing to see and taste the carefully picked local products paired with amazing drinks. It was our first night visiting Tromsø and it couldn’t start better! Keep up the great work, food was amazing, service impressing 😍

Wonderful rustic Norwegian bistro. Offers a pre set menu providing samples of local delicacies excellently prepared and executed. Waiter was extremely knowledgeable and described every dish presented in great detail outlining the ingredients and process followed to produce them. Had a wonderful evening with great food and would highly recommend

Wow. What crunchy and flavoursome chicken! And the cauliflower vegan alternative… my god!!! Who do you have working in that kitchen!!!!!!!! Coming from London I feel like it was a bit tricky to impressed by food a few times in Tromsø, but this place blew my mind. The dimmed lights make for a cosy dinner setting or if you would like a nice drink, the bar is separate. Although it look dressy from the outside, the atmosphere inside is relaxed and easy-going. You can be whoever you want to be. The hosts explained every single item on the menu very well and once it’s served to you, they explain it again. A really nice personal touch. We enjoyed smoked beetroot topped with Parmesan which was a delight to the palette - an earthy taste and the nutty elements made it crunchy and sweet. Oh the croquets were played beautifully with the mouth-watering pea purée like a work of art. A true gem to Tromsø. Do not miss this place if you are in the city.

Hildr is surely one gem in the culinary landscape of Tromsø. The menu is monthly changing and quite exciting. The dishes often combine tastes in an adventurous but amazing way. Adding to it the well designed drink menu and and excellent service makes a stay at Hildr a highlight one is looking forward to return to.

Burgr is a trendy burger joint located in Tromso, known for its vintage video game-themed decor and a menu featuring a variety of beefy options. The restaurant offers traditional burgers with classic toppings as well as more adventurous choices like a habanero-topped burger. In addition to local dishes such as reindeer meat and seafood, Burgr also serves international favorites like hamburgers and pizzas.
Nice tasty burgers of an ok size. We tried Mario ,Bullet Bill & Jasmine. My highlight was Jasmine (falafel style burger). The fries and the sauce are very good 👍 Prices are fair. The atmosphere drives you back to the super Mario game; the tables look like the joystick and the lights are like Super Mario will come up 😉 Clearly gaming design; you will recall Sega, Nintendo etc. Funky burger house.
Anna K — Google review
Best burger of my life! I had the falafel burger (Jasmine) and it was just perfect. As an 80s born game nerd the theme of the place was amazing. Loved the whole experience and can't recommend this highly enough! Do not skip this while in Tromsø!

Even if you don't have any connection to retro video games, you will love the atmosphere and the food. The burger was perfect, but I want to raise my voice for the more-than-perfect fries. Please go and tey yourself. And if you happen to have played any SEGA/Nintendo/Playstation games in your past, you'll surely find some "hey, I know that game" moments. Highly recommended!

Tasty burgers, the price is fine. They were served pretty quickly. Also, the fries were excellent! The interior is quite unique

Very funky burger place with nostalgia of 90s games. The ambience was really cool. A cozy place for people to hangout along with good food. Milkshakes were good too!

The doom eternal was easily the best burger I've ever had and the homemade hot sauce is to die for. Be warned though - it's made with carolina reapers and the spice level is no joke.

The best burger my husband had ever had - not sure I need to say more! Absolutely delicious and a really fun vibe! It’s close to self service with ordering at the bar which was a little difficult with the tight space but we still had a fantastic meal! Highly recommend.

One of the best vegetarian burgers I’ve ever had! They make their own falafel patty, and it’s absolutely delicious. You can really tell how much effort goes into both the food and the overall vibe of the place—everything feels thoughtfully done. Plus, for Tromsø prices, it’s super affordable! My friends and I really enjoyed eating here and would definitely come back.

Pub
Rorbua Pub is a charming and rustic establishment that captures the essence of Norwegian culture, making it a must-visit spot in Tromsø. With its rough-hewn beams and cozy ambiance reminiscent of a fisherman's cottage, this pub offers an inviting atmosphere for both locals and travelers alike. Known for its live music performances from Wednesday to Saturday, Rorbua is the perfect place to unwind with friends while enjoying some tunes.
We followed the recommendations from Google Review. We had the lemonade drinks with alcohol! This is a must try! It was really good! We also followed the recommendations to try out the pizza with salmon and shrimps. It came with pesto base with a pinch of basil. We love it but I guess it depends on personal preference since the base might not be the usual pizza’s base.

The pub doesn't have a menu for food, but pizza from the neighbor, which is different and not bad. Good place for some drinks. Very good atmosphere and excellent Playlist!

Just in front of the Port, this typical pub had great local food and atmosphere. We didn't reserve a table but the employees were so kind to find something. We ate meat and fish typical soup and everything was very good. I suggest you try it also because we had the opportunity to see some northern lights right after dinner.

Went for a drink on a saturday night. There was a band. People were happy and dancing. The band seems good but personally didn’t recognize any song so didn’t enjoy it very much. The selection of drinks at the bar is mainly beer.. didnt see Cocktails or something special. The pub is cosy and big, 2 floors and was full! Congratulations!

Really enjoyed this place. As we were there during the the infamous covid-days, I felt like the place took good care to prevent infections and still provide a fun might out. We got our own table, ordered at the bar, and they came with the drink to the table. Thought drinking, people were following the guidelines and guards took a round every now and then to keep up with what was going on. When I'm in Tromsø again, this will absolutely be a place I visit again😎🤘😁

The beach is also known for its midnight sun experience. In addition to being a great place for outdoor activities, it provides tables, benches, and barbecues for visitors to enjoy.
Beautiful location, plenty of space to sit down and enjoy the view. Great location to see the northern light although the busses ends at midnight. There parking lot nearby and washroom. Bit colder then other areas because of the wind so make sure you bring extra clothes with you.

Gorgeous park that is just a five minute walk from the Arctic University Museum of Norway (and easily accessible by bus from Tromso center). It is a very popular spot for locals especially in the summer for hiking, swimming etc. In the winter it is equally gorgeous and is also a great spot for Northern Lights viewing.
Irma Z — Google review
We went there several time, during the day but also during the night. Such a beautiful place, with plenty options to have a picnic and breath pure air from the ocean. We had the chance to observe amazing northern light at night directly from this place around 21h the Wednesday 1st of October. With the reflection on the water as you can see in the photos I shared. I also recorded some handpan videos there, I highly recommend to visit it if you have the time.

You don’t need to join an expensive tour — you can see amazing northern lights right here! I’m a budget backpacker traveling around the world, and I researched several aurora spots in Tromsø to find places I could reach on my own. Among all the spots I visited, this was the easiest to access, had the least light pollution, and offered the clearest view. From around 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the aurora danced across the night sky — unbelievably large, bright, and beautiful. You can even see green, white, and pink colors with the naked eye. There are metal barrels placed here and there where you can make a bonfire. It gets really cold at night, so bringing a lighter might be helpful. One night I went when it was very windy by the seaside — sand blew into my eyes and it hurt, so be careful on windy days! I’m sure aurora tours are amazing too, but if the sky is clear, you can have an incredible experience right here for free. I’ll be sharing the experience on YouTube and social media, so feel free to check it out if you’re curious! 🌌 @asumikumano

Beautiful view, the sea and seagulls. You can sit on the rock and stare at the surrounding mountains and listen to the waves. On the weekend it is a bit crowded, but you can find space alone anytime.

Simply stunning views and colder than cold! Wrap up warm as the wind is stronger here than in town. The views are stunning! Lots of seating, so I bet it's amazing in summer to sit here. It was extremely slippy underfoot in January, so make sure you wear grips. There are public toilets that are free and extremely clean. Best outdoor public toilet I've ever used!! There is a bus stop back to town very close by. Would love to come here to view the northern lights. Next time, maybe 😁

Thủ đô của cực quang ---------------------------------------- Located at 69° North in the heart of Arctic Norway, Tromsø is often called the “Capital of the Northern Lights” – and for good reason. Thanks to its prime position directly beneath the auroral oval, Tromsø offers some of the highest chances in the world to witness the aurora borealis, especially during the winter months from September to March. But Tromsø is more than just a destination for aurora hunting. This charming Arctic town is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, deep fjords, and cozy wooden houses, creating a fairytale-like landscape that’s both peaceful and awe-inspiring. During polar nights in winter, when the sun doesn’t rise for weeks, the sky comes alive with vibrant ribbons of green, violet, and red lights dancing above. Visitors can enjoy a range of unforgettable experiences, from guided aurora chases and husky sledding, to ice fishing and learning about the indigenous Sámi culture. What makes Tromsø truly special is that it combines raw Arctic beauty with modern comfort—offering good infrastructure, warm accommodations, and reliable tours, making it ideal even for first-time winter travelers. Whether you're a photographer, adventurer, or simply a dreamer chasing magic in the sky, Tromsø is one of the most reliable and enchanting places in the world to see the northern lights.

Art gallery
Magic Ice Bar Tromsø is a unique Nordic winter wonderland constructed from natural ice, featuring an art gallery with sculptures and narratives that trace the paths of explorers Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen. The entire establishment, including the walls, chairs, tables, and glasses, is crafted from ice. Visitors can immerse themselves in the history of Norwegian adventurers while enjoying a drink in an ice glass.
It's not exactly a bar, but more like an Ice Age experience. It's a unique place for families, and the kids usually enjoy it even more than the adults. For grown-ups, it's a fun way to test how well your clothes handle the cold. Either way, you'll be given a poncho there. The photos turn out great, even though you'll only stay for a short time—because it's really cold! The drink is tasty, but the main idea isn't really to go there for the drinks
ANA L — Google review
A little expensive but also a great experience. The Ice bar was fun. They offer you an alcoholic or non alcoholic drink upon entering. Walking through the rooms of carved ice was a treat. Sit on the fur seats and enjoy your drink.

Visiting Magic Ice Bar was such a nice experience! The atmosphere is truly unique — everything made of ice, from the glasses to the sculptures, creates a magical vibe. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the drinks were great. It’s definitely something special to experience while in Tromsø!
Andrei A — Google review
My partner and I had a lot of fun at the ice bar. It is small but the sculptures and ice art are very well done and it is a fun experience overall. It’s nothing spectacular but it is something different. After paying, the staff help you put on an over-all jacket, like a cape for some warmth. The room is cold !! On entrance to the ice bar, you get a welcome drink from the menu, there is alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks available. We took plenty of pictures and had fun going around. It doesn’t take too long as it is essentially one room. I would recommend coming here for the experience.
Aoife W — Google review
Typical "ice bar" with some cool ice sculptures. A little expensive, but I'd recommend the package that gets the second drink at a discounted price so it's worth your time. Something fun to do on an evening out!
Victoria H — Google review
Great experience in this bar. After entry you receive a welcome drink and you can stay as long as you want. Wrap up well as everything is made of ice so very cold inside, a large covering is provided but your own hat and gloves are essential.
Harry K — Google review
Do visit if you are in the city and are running out of things to do. It’s a small place, well stocked. First drink is free with the entrance. The ice sculptures are really nice and great for photographs. Kids would enjoy the experience esp when it’s not yet snowing in winter. Back in 2018, I visited a similar place but it was in the open and wild, not in a room with sub zero temperature, but that’s what happens if the climate change continues. The hosts were very polite and friendly, but beyond, not much to do or see around for the cost.
Mo G — Google review
Wasn’t that impressed but my 10 year old son loved it. Welcome drinks are abit of a con, looks like you get a decent sized drink when actually it’s about 5 sips. Could make it look more decorative inside instead of showing the boards and wires on the ceiling. Not worth the £65 at all in my opinion.

What an incredible concept and experience! I had booked an earlier time slot, so we were the first ones on the boat. The host was so lovely and accommodating, she showed us the entire boat and adjusted temperatures to our liking since no one else was onboard yet. We enjoyed the sauna, Hamam, cold plunge, and the hot tub. It was a bit cold to do the polar plunge into the water, but I did other guests do it after our arrival. Lovely space! Really enjoyed our time here, left feeling super relaxed and recharged.

For 40 and under highly recommended. For me at 70, the Home Depot ladder or 10 foot jump was a bit of a stretch. Still, we did it all and the sauna has a very nice vibe. Sara was a great host and her playlist was super.

We spent an unforgettable Ski & Sail trip on the Vulkana with Lilo, Gabi, Hogne, and Soren. The crew went way beyond expectations — Lilo even dove in and served us fresh sea urchin straight from the ocean! The food was next-level (that cod soup from the fisherman’s catch and the legendary steak dinner with lingonberries...), the hot tub was unbeatable after skiing, and the space on the boat is laid out perfectly. So much room, cozy bedrooms — felt better than my own place in Zürich. Huge thanks for making every little wish happen, even with all our crazy food allergies!

Restaurant
CASA INFERNO is a lively pizzeria located just off Tromsos two busiest streets, drawing in both locals and tourists. Despite the bustling atmosphere, the restaurant offers fantastic service and delicious pizza served shortly after ordering. The theme of the restaurant is intriguing with its hellish decor, but it doesn't overshadow the fine flavors of their piping hot pizza pies that are dripping with cheese and flavor.
The pizza came out very quickly, even though the place was full (we received them all at once in about 10-15 minutes). The lady who served us was very kind, checked in on us multiple times to see if everything was to our liking, and was smiling and friendly throughout. It’s definitely worth making a reservation in advance, as it’s quite busy, and you might not get a table if you don’t book ahead on the website. For dessert, I highly recommend the fonduta di cioccolato—it’s divine and not too heavy. FYI they will charge you for the water and the nuts, but you can ask for a refill, so feel free to do so.

I recommend a reservation. We went on a Sunday around 700p. Very busy. We were able to put our name in for a 845p reservation. They close at 1000p. Everyone working was really pleasant. The person serving us was informative, pleasantly funny and taught us some basic italian pronunciation. We got the bruschetta and 4 pizzas to try/share. Everyone enjoyed their food. We had a bit of left overs. The ambiance is nice. The presentation was great. This was a pleasant find during our short stay in tromso. We saw a few of the inferno pizzas come out...it was cool to see. Highly recommend

Very authentic Italian pizza and a very cozy, well-decorated restaurant. I’ve been both times I’ve visited Tromsø and it is so worth it.
Emily M — Google review
We visited this Italian pizzeria and the food was good, but not outstanding. The atmosphere was very nice, but the restaurant is quite small for the number of guests. Since there were always people waiting for a table, several customers were standing in the doorway, and it wasn’t really clear where they should wait, which let some cold air into the restaurant. The pizzas were tasty and the staff very friendly. You should definitely make a reservation in advance, otherwise you’ll probably have to wait quite a while.
Michael H — Google review
I love this place. Been here for a while now and was really missing some classic style pizza. The day I first went to Cafe inferno my life changed. It wasn't just "good for norway" no, this is amazing pizza all together. I have been to Italy and some places there just don't have the same passion in their food as they do at Cafe inferno. It was truly a fantastic experience, and maybe I was jonesing for some pie

The Arctic University Museum of Norway, established in 1872, is a captivating destination in Tromso that offers a diverse range of science and cultural exhibits. From ancient artifacts to intriguing taxidermy displays, the museum provides an immersive experience for history enthusiasts and animal lovers alike.
Came here as part of the family city pass. It was probably my favorite of the places we visited. I enjoyed the wide range of exhibits. I thought the geology room was well thought out. I also liked the multiple perspectives and history of the Sami people. The museum itself is nicely equipped with restrooms, lockers, rest area, and cafe

EXCELLENT permanent installations (the dioramas are especially good). But what I found outstanding is the written text. I often find the wall text too dry and academic (written by and for academics versus the general public). Here, it is written in a very easy to understand manner - and it absolutely stays with you - and they have made sure that the installation works in tandem with the information that is being communicated in the wall text.

Very nice and must visit if you have kids. The short facts and video sessions. It was impressive to learn how old the ice in this part of the world is and the part about the Sami culture was really nice. Be careful about parking. No clear signs and we were find NOK660.

Lovely manageable-sized museum. Others reviews led me to give this one a try and they are accurate. I think the best all-rounder museum in Tromso, and certainly my favourite of those I visited. Interesting range of exhibits: including on Aurora, Sami culture, local religious/artistic artefacts and history, as well as animals and geology of the area. Each area was interesting. As others note, not all the translation on the app works, but there was still more than enough. Friendly staff. Reasonable price. Modest cafe. Toilets. On the bus route (just don’t catch the bus to the Northern campus). As others note, it is near the waterfront, so take a walk there too!

Kaffebønna Stortorget is a popular café in Tromsø, with multiple locations across the city. It's known for its specialty brews like V60 and delicious pastries. The café also offers organic and fresh products, including decent bread that attracts regular customers. With two equally charming locations, Kaffebønna provides a cozy atmosphere to enjoy coffee and mouth-watering sweets.
I went there with local friend, I took wrap that is called kylling, it was good, I liked atmosphere and interior design a lot. I think best for having your coffee and pastry place. And enjoying cozy stylish cafe.

Great location in the city center with an amazing view from the seating area. Coffee is decent and the cakes are ok. Sandwiches are a little dry but that’s because they use rye bread which is not suited to everyone’s taste. If you get there early, do sit at the counters and you’ll have an amazing view while having your morning coffee.
Teck B — Google review
Excellent and big choice of coffee and teas. It is a cool and trendy place. Do not forget to taste the croissants and the pain au chocolate, they are marvelous. The only low point in my view is the somewhat hectic atmosphere. But it was the national celebration the as we had coffee there.

Really nice and cozy place to have a delicious cappuccino and pastries. Really liked the vibe there, the team is very nice, and we even had 2 free cappuccinos on the top ! 🙌🏼 I totally recommend this place.

The Asian girl that is on the counter has terrible attitude, looks like she is angry , we came twice and it was the same bad service, the 1st time we thought she was having a bad day but we came back and it was the same... moody girl. The chai latte is good the cinnamon roll was average, doesn't taste fresh. Very disappointed 😞

Kaffebønna Stortorget is a fantastic spot with friendly staff who has superb English skills, making communication easy. The café offers a wide variety of pastries and drinks, along with coffee you can buy to take home. The place is always bustling, so finding a seat can be tricky—but that just shows how popular it is! The cozy atmosphere, combined with an amazing view from the café, makes it a great place to relax and unwind. The staff was always smiling, which adds to the warm and welcoming vibe. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

Good coffee and delicious cinnamon buns! Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff.

We have been trying hard to find a coffee cafe that knows how to actually use an espresso machine. Kaffebønna’s staff/baristas have certainly been trained and not surprising as the owner worked in London before coming back to Tromsø. We have now found the best Flat Whites above the Arctic Circle. The cinnamon and cardamom buns were fresh, large and more importantly tasted pretty dammed fine. We sat outside in the sun, a not so often happening here. There is adequate seating inside for the not so nice days.

Restaurant
Biffhuset Skarven is a versatile venue located on the edge of Tromsos harbor, offering a pub, bistro, and fine dining restaurant all in one place. The pub, Skarven Kro, is particularly noteworthy for its inviting atmosphere and diverse menu featuring plenty of fish dishes and an extensive selection of beers. The sea-themed bar at Skarven is also a popular spot where guests can enjoy unique specialties like seal lasagne while admiring maritime decor.
Walk-ins Available👍 We did not reserve a table for dinner in Tromsø, so we were turned down by many restaurants. Luckily, we were able to find a table for two here. We ordered the Grilled Minke Whale and Grilled Sirloin of Reindeer. Before trying the Grilled Minke Whale, we expected it to taste fishy, but it turned out to be absolutely delicious. It is definitely worth trying. The Grilled Sirloin of Reindeer was equally impressive. The meat was tender and flavorful, cooked to perfection. It was a unique and delightful experience that we highly recommend. However, we do not recommend the Baileys Coffee. The flavor was overpowering and did not complement the meal well. It might be better to stick with their other drink options. Overall, this restaurant provided a memorable dining experience with its unique dishes and welcoming atmosphere. If you find yourself in Tromsø, it's worth a visit, especially if you enjoy trying new and adventurous foods.👍

The best food I had in Norway. All other places nearby were either closed or fully-booked, but here they accepted walk-ins. Our waiter was very attentive, professional and helpful. Waiting times were much less than at other restaurants, vibes of the place were also nice and calm. Prices are a bit steep, but at least you are getting something for it. All food items were really delicious and perfectly cooked. They had a wide selection of meats, but vegetarian option was also available. Overall, highly recommended, will come back if I am in Tromsø again.

The best beef we’ve had anywhere. Our friends had the reindeer and also raved about it. Excellent service in a spacious restaurant. Bogdan took very good care of us and made our meal extra special with recommendations for other places to visit in the area.
Patti M — Google review
Very cozy spot in the middle of the city center. We came without reservations, yet they let us in. As tourists, we had to try the mink whale and reindeer. The waitress was kind enough to recommend the cooking method. Both meats met our or even exceeded our expectations.
Eiman A — Google review
An excellent place to try the unusual, local menu. This is a «fine cuisine» restaurant. Bit it is not too pricey, considering notably that you are savoring some truly unusual, extraordinary- dishes (whale, reindeer…). After all, you are paying 10$+ for that famous hot-dog, which is supposed to be made partly with reindeer meat (which part, I wonder… ?) Btw, I thought that whale would be like fish (even though it is not a fish). But I discovered that it is meat, a form of steak. Tasty, out of the ordinary, and quite interesting. But just like reindeer (which tastes like game meat) you cannot eat too much if it, so don't worry if the served portions seem to be small, you will feel full once you finish your plate - which comes with delicious toppings, presented in an artistic way - . Very nice decoration and ambiance, also. And an excellent service, but a seriously trained staff. A good place to have a solid, hearty dinner, and then go for a - digestive - walk in the streets of Tromsø, which become much less crowded (while they remain sunny during this season) in the evening, when most of the transit visitors are gone, and the joyful animation is concentrated in the bars… - .

JUST FANTASTIC!!! Third best steak I’ve ever eaten. No1 is Th Big Texan Steak Ranch & Brewery in Amarillo TX. No2 is my own😀😀. So when in Tromsø just forget all the other places. Go for Skarven.

We were here right at the opening and were seated right away. Friendly staff, good service, but yes, we were alone 🤣 Ordered entrecôte, cream gratin potatoes and mushroom stew. Got foccacia as a side dish, it was incredibly fresh and good. When the food arrived, there was coleslaw, root vegetables and corn in addition. The steaks was unfortunately some bad pieces, needed a lotnof chewing, but tasted good. The potatoes were not very spicy, a little minus for that too. Only gets 3 stars, because this is a steak house.
Vetle H — Google review
We had an amazing dinner at Skarven Kro in Tromsø! The location is perfect — we got to watch the snow falling through the window while enjoying our meal, which made the whole experience even more special. We started with the Garlic Gratinated Shrimps from Lyngen and the Loaded Potato Skins — both were super tasty. For the mains, we had the Grilled Sirloin of Reindeer, the Minke Whale, the Surf and Turf, the Clipfish of Pollock, and the Norwegian Salmon. Everything was perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. Everything was delicious, and we loved that there were so many traditional Norwegian dishes — exactly what we were looking for. The portions were generous, and the whole atmosphere was warm and cozy. We’d definitely come back!

Nestled in the vibrant city of Tromsø, the Northern Norwegian Art Museum is a gem for art lovers eager to explore Nordic creativity. This charming museum features an impressive collection that spans from 19th-century landscape paintings to contemporary works, including graphic design and photography. Housed in a historic building dating back to 1917, it serves as a cultural hub with rotating exhibitions that often highlight Northern and Sami art and crafts.
Lovely super quick visit for a Sunday in Tromso. Good staff, clean and art exhibition interesting.

LOVED this museum and especially the just opened Kvaani Biennaali that just opened (it will be until sept 30, 2026). Beautiful museum, lovely staff and gorgeous installation of art.
Irma Z — Google review
I came to see art, I left with my own. The exhibits were captivating—especially the photography one Layers of time, Everyday life in Svalbard, touched me—but my favourite part was the craft/workshop section where I spent 1.5 hours making collages, earrings, and embroidery to the sounds of soft jazz (in case you wondered, I'm over 12 years old). That alone would have made the price worth it.
Marta K — Google review
We visited the museum twice. On Friday we did the guided tour related to the Sami-week. A Sami artist exhibition was on the 3rd floor. On Saturday we went back because there would be a Sami singer. Unfortunately that tour was in Norwegian, the signing was nice but most of the people in the group were no Norwegian speaking so couldnt understand the guided part of the tour.
Mark H — Google review
A wonderful art museum focused on northern Norwegian and Scandinavian artists. It’s a relatively small museum (there were three exhibits on our visit), which makes it very manageable as part of a day in Tromsø. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the exhibits, particularly the photography and music exhibit on Svalbard. We were lucky to arrive around the time of a guided tour, which I highly recommend. The tour guide was very sweet and added a lot of historical and local context that made the exhibits more meaningful. The rest of the staff was so lovely as well.
Sonam K — Google review
Modern installation art only, very few pieces- so low stars reflected not good value for money. Friendly staff and the art itself is interesting if limited. All currently anti-colonial, feminist expressions- interesting use of sound and expressions against eco- movement from cultural perspective.
Tavia S — Google review
This place is nothing short of being spectacular. We were expecting a “regular” arts museum but boy were we wrong. The highlight has to be the artist’s workshop. It was fully equipped with everything that a true artist could wish for. The kids spend nearly 1.5 hrs in there while us parents could enjoy a cup of coffee free of charge. Last but not least the staff was very helpful & kind. Thank you for an amazing experience.
Andreas R — Google review
Starting off with general aspects about the museum itself: it has three floors with multiple rooms for different artworks and a nice little shop on the ground floor. From what I understood, there is also a corner to sit, drink coffee and talk with fellow visitors. About the current exhibition: some of the people here talk a lot about how they didn't like "Gába – female resilience" because it was too short or too simple. I would say that these people did not understand what this exhibition is about. Only 28% of the museum walls are covered, showing the limited representation of female painters. It is a message to the public. That's why it's short. Personally, I really enjoyed the paintings and cultural features that had stories to tell about womanhood in different countries. Additionally, the museum has multiple sitting opportunities and very clean toilettes. What was missing for me though was more in depth stories regarding each painting or artist. Perhaps, some additions to go more into the "resilience" part would also be preferable. Other than that, it was very thought-provoking and interesting to see art present in such a way. If anyone wants to immerse themselves for a short 30–35-minute period of time into educative, cultural art, this is the place.

The Perspective Museum, housed in a neoclassical estate, is a unique cultural institution in Tromsø. It boasts an extensive collection of over 500,000 photographs that offer a diverse perspective on the city's past and present. The museum presents these images in a documentary-style format to provoke discussions on various cultural and societal topics. Additionally, it features works by local and international photographers as well as artifacts from other museums, making it a valuable research center.
LOVED this museum. They currently have (until Jan 17 2027) an amazing show about the life and work of a Sara Fabricius who also wrote under the pseudonym Cora Sandel. The exhibition (over 2 floors) highlights cultural-historical objects from the artist’s own life, and the exhibition is introduced with a biographical cartoon strip by Anneli Furmark. She lived in Tromso in her early adulthood before moving to Paris. But she later returned to Norway and passed away in 1974 at age 93. This is the second of three exhibitions about the author and visual artist Cora Sandel/Sara Fabricius (1880–1974). NOTE: There is a mural on a building across the street from the museum that I think may be honoring the artist.

I mean, can you really fault a free museum??? When I visited they had an exhibit about religion which is not really my thing (like, at all) but I enjoyed looking at the pictures- such awesome quality! Then upstairs they had a lot of shots from Tromso 50-60 years ago which was really cool to see.

An enjoyable tour of this museum which has frequently changing exhibits. For my visit was of Cora Sandal's work (artist and author) from Tromsø. It was a thought provoking exhibition with lots of intriguing artworks. A particular highlight for me was the listening room where we could hear extracts of the written works. This is no longer free entry, unless a student. I am pleased my student card meant this did not cost us lots, as we are not knowledge about this artist and author beforehand so arrived out of curiosity instead of love. The museum is over 3 floors so if stairs are impossible then maybe ask if they have a solution before paying. They have toilets (free) and coat lockers with keys outside in the lobby and by the toilets inside. Enjoyed it. We are unlikely to need to visit this exhibit twice but would return to see a different experience next trip.
Bee H — Google review
This is a photography museum. The exhibitions on display when I visited were Red Utopia, which was about the presence of communism in countries around the world even today. The photographer does a very good job of showing their stories. Homo Religiosus was another one which, as the name suggests, was about various religions, their evolution and it's importance in people's lives. Overall, I liked the presentations; and since the entry to this museum is free, there is no harm in visiting it.
Poonam N — Google review
Wonderful curator work blending photography projects ‘Red Utopia’, an exhibition of Jan Banning (Dutch) capturing supporters of Communism at various locations around the globe with local Tromsø historical photography by world renown, home-grown Tromsø artist, Knut Stokmo. An additional social enhancement weaved in called ´Homo Religiosus ‘ highlighting all the religions active locally in Tromsø Norway. Exhibitions which triggers the deep thought of the individual visitor!

Gründer Tromsø, situated in the Scandic Grand Tromso Hotel, is a trendy and innovative meeting spot known for its excellent service. The bar offers a unique cocktail experience crafted by creative mixologists. With a cool vibe and spacious indoor and outdoor seating, it's an ideal place to enjoy tasty international cuisine at good value. While it may attract an older crowd at times, it's still popular among young party-goers for its friendly atmosphere and good music.
Cool vibe here. We got strawberry daiquiris and they were solid. There wasn’t that much alcohol in it but it tasted good. They check IDs at the door and you have to leave any bottled beverages at the door. Seating is spacious. They have outdoor and indoor seating.

Embarrassing service. Came in at 8:30pm (absolutely dead), ordered a drink. Ordered another drink at 9:40pm, and was immediately told that we would have to leave at 10pm due to a "private arrangement" but could conveniently pay to to get back in. Also had to suffer 30 painful minutes of an amateur DJ setting up with deafening cable connection noises. Avoid!

Very nice place. Good to have a social gathering. We had late night drinks and their cocktails taste fantastic. We also like the blueberry bacon pancake.

Quite disappointed as the reviews were good. Ordered a reindeer burger and potato with reindeer. Both were average at most. Burger was overcooked and tasted like a frozen patty. Potato with reindeer was average and cold. For the first night in Tromso and considering the price we expected more. Service was questionable and we felts quite unwelcome. Be prepared to order your food at the bar - luckily food was brought to the table once paid.

A bar with different decorations, a bit dark, a limited menu (baked sweet potatoes, pancakes and burgers - including reindeer) and drinks. Food was ok, nothing special.
Raíssa H — Google review
Very comfy place, looks welcoming. Food is limited, one vegetarian option beneath fries- veggie pancake. Sadly it was already cold, because my order was forgotten (the server was busy with his friends). Also, salad inside a pancake is an interesting idea, I am glad I tied it, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. My cocktail was also forgotten. After asking for it, it was brought to me very quickly and it was good. Staff was very friendly, said they were sorry about the order. Nevertheless, not an overly great experience. For going out having a few drinks you should be fine (especially because the place as a very nice atmosphere).

So we arrived at 15:02, having booked a table before. Food arrived at 16:20. We had ordered 3 burgers and a baked potato. Burger patties had red chilli peppers inside so my 8yo couldn’t eat. Fries were large floppy greasy potato slices so she wouldn’t have that either and I can’t blame her. My baked potato was lukewarm. So either it was microwaved too short or left to get cold… Tasted ok but over 1 hour wait for cold food? I ordered a second beer (same thing), and it was a different beer 🤡 Table had crumbs all over, even though we arrived at opening… What gives?! 🤣🤦‍♀️ Atmosphere is nice, but one star off for dirty table. Overall not recommended.

A warm cappuccino and even warmer service! We’re on a 17-day cruise through Norway, and Tromsø was today’s port of call. After walking extensively—including all the way across the Tromsø Bridge and back—my husband had a serious craving for a cappuccino. We tried two coffee shops before this one. The first had a 10-minute wait. The second told us they couldn’t make the cappuccino hot enough and offered to microwave it (no thanks!). Then we found **Helmersen**, right next door. A young man behind the counter confidently told my husband he could make it *extra hot*. He absolutely delivered—my husband was *so* happy. This place turned our afternoon around. Friendly service, a cozy atmosphere, and most importantly, a cappuccino made *just right*. Highly recommend if you’re in Tromsø and in need of a great coffee and even better attitude.

Pub
Restaurant
Huken Pub is a small, cozy outpost that stays open late and offers a relaxed atmosphere. It's not your typical pub, but more of a burger and old rock tea bar with a great selection of beers and drinks. Despite its small size, it's a popular spot so arriving early is recommended. The food, especially the burgers, is outstanding and consistently good. If burgers aren't your thing, they also offer delicious options like blueberry bacon pancakes.
Wow. The burgers here are really outstanding and among the best I've ever eaten. I went back a few times and the quality is consistent. If not in the mood for a burger, try the blueberry bacon pancake. Not as good as the burgers in my opinion, but still excellent. Service is friendly and attentive.

We enjoyed the food very much. We had a jacket potato and a pancake (taco). The staff is friendly. But it was strange to order the food an drinks at the counter. Yep, we recommend this place. If you like my review, the please 'like' it.

This is a cozy little pub and the food is quite delicious. We got the BBQ bacon burger and the pancake taco. The sauce on the burger was tasty and it the burger had so much flavor. The pancake taco was very unique and tasted great. We got the bigger pancake taco and it was huge. It could have fed two people. The potatoes that the burger was served with were pretty good as well. We also enjoyed the local beer and cider options they had. The service was fast and friendly. They have free wifi and an English menu.

This is not a pub!...well from what i know of pubs....this is more like a Burger/Old Rock tea bar...excluding the tea. Food is to die for and there is a good selection of beers and drinks available. This place can only hold about 30 people. So be sure to arrive earlier in the day as it gets crowded. Don't be put off by the size, great place to escape the cold and have a conversation with friends and or partner. Music great if you like classic rock but not loud so that you cant talk.
Richard E — Google review
Very welcoming and attentive staff. The food was some of the best we had in Tromsø, especially the reindeer pie! It's a cosy place to warm up and relax after being battered by the cold weather outside. Some of the dining tables are intimately close to eachother, we went on a quiet afternoon, but if it was busy, I can imagine it feeling quite cramped. Very lively on a Friday and Saturday night. The outdoor seating is a nice place to enjoy a drink and people watch.
Juliet S — Google review
Got the BBQ burger and a beer - couldn't be better. 185 NOK the burger. Great service. Is a small place and always crowded but could get a sit without an issue. Oh, no parking. You can park on city parking lots - around 15 NOK an hour.

I got a burger here and it tasted nice!! The place is super homey and calming. Good to grab beers too!

Flyt is not just a regular culinary spot, it also organizes annual hiking tours to the snowy mountains in the Arctic region. The bar aims to provide a cozy and warm atmosphere for those seeking new adventures. It offers a wide selection of beer and wines, perfect for warming up in the extremely cold weather. With an extreme sports-inspired theme, this restaurant and bar exudes a laid-back vibe with rock music playing in the background.
Great burgers, recommend to go with the sweet potato option.

Mediocre patty and fries. Tastes like the ones you cook from the frozen patties. Okay beer selection , not for food
Chad L — Google review
I don't really understand where the claim "one of the best burgers in town" originates from. The bread is the kind you get from the grocery store and the meat paddies are too. Nothing I would spend that much money on again. Big selection of beers though, which is very nice.
Johan K — Google review
Extreme sport inspired resturant and bar. Laid back and relexed atmosphere with a rocky music theme. Serves one of the best burgers in town and their side order menu is quite impressive. At night it turns into one of Tromsø's most chill bars. Awsome place to grab a beer and hang out with your friends.
Simen T — Google review
$79 USD for two burgers, one glass of house red wine, and one small beer. The Burgers and potatoes were good, but overall the price was not worth the food. Food was 3.5 stars. Price 1 Star.
M.D. N — Google review
Although it closes at 11 pm , we came at 10 but we were not seated because the staff claimed that the place closes at 10 pm and no orders can be taken even for take out! The working hours on the restaurant door even says it closes at 11 pm! Really disappointed!! As we came a long way to try the place out

Museum
MS Polstjerna, a well-preserved sealing ship, is part of the Tromso Museum and offers a glimpse into the lives of its former crew who were seal hunters. The ship, built in 1949 by Moens Batbyggeri, had 33 fishing seasons between 1949 and 1981 during which it harvested nearly 100,000 seals from the West Ice and East Ice.
This is genuinely a great place to come for a an hour or two. I’ve never been to a museum where you can get so in touch with the exhibit. This is an old boat used to hunt seals, it’s very matter of fact and aims to teach you the reality of what these hunters went through. I loved being able to experience the boat fully, sitting in the kitchen, sleeping in the beds, going below deck, going into the main navigation room and pressing all the buttons! It’s refreshing they let you do that and the experience is amazing because of it!! Really really you should come to see this, I think kids would love this well and the narration on your phone is very good. Don’t forget to go downstairs to see about polar expeditions!!
Harvey S — Google review
It cost me around 50 NOK to enter and took almost less than an hour for the trip. It was a small museum and a ship to explore which was used for exploration of North people. Had a nice experience. Would recommend to visit there.

Amazing! Great idea and boat itself. Also the girl who work here very pleasant and communicable. Thanks! Cost 50 kr. Possible to pay by card.
Tikhon L — Google review
Great ship museum about polar exploration. I loved the exhibit about how Europeans learned to survive from native peoples.
Lawrence C — Google review
Loved the design. You could choose from indoor visiting or outdoor as the ship is glass wall. They have outside seating if you like to take a break or snack with the view
Yamir C — Google review
An amazing immersive experience to able to board the ship and explore various areas of it.

Renting a car in Tromsø is a convenient option for travelers looking to explore the stunning landscapes of northern Norway. The E6 highway provides access to Tromsø, but it's important to consider the challenging weather conditions and long distances. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended, especially during snowy and icy conditions. With a rental car, visitors can enjoy the flexibility of exploring the region at their own pace while taking in the breathtaking scenery along the way.
Geir saved our trip! When we landed we had problems with picking up a car from the more famous rentals, but Geir had a beautiful and comfortable car available immediately: a fantastic Fisker Ocean. Geir explained to us all the details of the car, the charging methods and driving on the arctic roads, and so we were able to experience a fantastic week among the lyngen fjords covering 700 km. Clean car and in excellent condition: I love Fisker quality. When we returned it he also offered to take us to the hotel, very kind. Highly recommended!! Thank you Geir!
Matteo S — Google review
Geir was top man! Since the beginning I have got responses to all my questions. He has rented to us a new and modern car. He is very polite and friendly, always ready to help you! If I could male 6 stars, I would do! Good luck for your business man!

I rented a car from Geir for six days, and the experience was perfect! The car was in excellent condition, the service was impeccable, and Geir was professional, courteous, and very attentive to my needs. Highly recommended! 🚗✨
