Points of Interest & Landmarks
Tromsø Bridge, a landmark cantilever bridge, offers stunning views of the Arctic Cathedral and distant mountains. It is a key feature connecting Tromsøya to the mainland and the island of Kvaløya. The bridge, opened in 1960, spans 3,399 feet across the Tromsoysundet Strait. Despite its high latitude, Tromsø enjoys relatively mild winters and tree growth due to the warming effect of the Gulf Stream.
If you're up for some walking and are a fan of scenic views, Tromso Bridge is an absolute must visit attraction when in the city. Connecting the island and mainland, you can walk along the bridge from the city center to the cable car or the Artic Cathedral. You get magnificent view of Tromso on the bridge, although it can get quite windy on the top of the bridge. Make sure to check the weather before embarking on your walk!
Luke P — Google review
Impressive bridge whether you go under it by ship, view it from the city or walk over it. It is a good walk over it to the Arctic Cathedral. The length and steepness should not be underestimated, especially in winter.
Simon R — Google review
Really good views but can get windy up the top so hold on to your hats and things. Decent views of the arctic cathedral from afar too
Brayden G — Google review
A great way to see Tromso from the sea and a decent walk. Beware that one side is for cycles, the other for walkers. It isn't well marked. It wasn't particularly windy when we went over, but it can get very windy.
Martin R — Google review
Cultural Significance: Tromsø Bridge is not just a transportation link; it has become a symbol of Tromsø itself, representing the city’s development and connection to the mainland. The bridge is often featured in local art and photography. Tromsø Bridge is more than just a crossing point; it’s an experience. Whether you’re traveling by car or taking a scenic walk, crossing this bridge provides a unique perspective on the beauty of Tromsø and the natural landscapes that surround it.
Iryna K — Google review
Walked across this bridge to Mt Fjellheisen in March 2025. Cold weather and windy. After dinner, we walked more than 45mins to Fjellheisen. Such a great experience. Can see the view of the two sides of the bridge. Although it was a tired journey.
Annie C — Google review
Great views from the bridge, can get very windy as walking across as it is exposed to the elements. One side of the bridge is for walking , the other side is for cycles / scooters etc
Satvinder S — Google review
Beautifully architected bridge linking the main city of Tromsø to some of the key attractions such as the Arctic Cathedral and the Fjellheisen (cable car). You can walk across the bridge - it is about 1km long - with pedestrian walkways on both sides protected from the traffic. Great views

The Arctic Cathedral, a striking church in Tromso, Norway, is an architectural marvel with its pyramid shape and glass facade. Designed by Jan Inge Hovigand and inspired by the region's fiskeheller and lavvu, it stands out as a landmark. The spiral shape of the cathedral reflects the aurora borealis, while its titanium exterior mirrors the dancing lights in the sky.
The Arctic Cathedral is one of Tromsø's most iconic landmarks. It's located on the eastern side of the city, just across the Tromsøbrua Bridge in the Tromsdalen district. The cathedral resembles an iceberg or a Sami (Arctic indigenous) tent. The structure, made of white concrete and glass, contrasts with the sky and snow-capped mountains, symbolizing the beauty of the Arctic. Situated on a hillside with no tall buildings blocking the view, the Arctic Cathedral is a popular spot for viewing the Northern Lights during winter. The views are stunning, offering panoramic views of the city.
Pisit P — Google review
Beautiful place! If you opt for piblic transport you can direct get down at the nearest bus-stop, Very accessible place. And if you really want to visit by walking, I would suggest, stay there till the sunset, enjoy beautiful colors and head back. Its just 2-2.5 kms from harbor area.
Srilekha R — Google review
An inspiring piece of Nordic architecture with a relatively easy walk over the road bridge from the main part of Tromsø. The cathedral is slightly expensive for admission, and as we went a bit later in the day to see the stained glass lit up we didn't feel we would have had enough time inside for the cost. Other than that, it's a highly recommended place to visit if you are interested in Scandinavian design.
Caleb W — Google review
A modern structure sitting atop a hill, walkable from downtown area of Tromso. It is across the main bridge, about half an hour on foot or, by local bus. Since I'm not familiar with the bus route and I love walking, it suits me fine to cross the bridge. Make sure you walk on the path for pedestrians, not one for bicyclists. The wind is stronger across the bridge so bundle up. The cathedral was closed on the day I was in town, but it's nice to see the outside. A tall, erect structure in a giant triangle. There is not much outside to see, no garden, park or anything interesting so I didn't stay around long. Behind it is the route to the cable cars, interesting to take. $60 usd for the ticket if you like an aerial view of the town. The church itself is worth a walk to but unless it is open, visit nearby attractions such as the cable cars.
G D — Google review
I visited the Arctic Cathedral on a sunny day, and it was absolutely beautiful. The architecture is so unique, and the light made it shine even more against the mountains and water. The view from there was stunning, definitely one of my favorite spots in Tromsø.
Atria O — Google review
A very modern church, set on the opposite bank of the sound to the main town of Tromsø and a bit of a walk away. Technically not actually a cathedral (no cathedral/no bishop as the guide explained to me) it’s set beautifully amongst the mountains and fjords of the Arctic. There is a fairly hefty entrance charge but worth the money to see the beautiful stained glass that does set an atmosphere. Downstairs there are toilets and an array of photographs worth looking about for. Unlike some churches and cathedrals in this country for which we paid entrance, this one at least has a spiritual feel to it and the spiritual life of the place was evident. A description of the church didn’t seem available, nor did a guide, so it was a self-guided tour. ♿️ There are steps up to the heavy front door, and only half the door was opening, so quite narrow. And the cash desk at a funny angle difficult for wheelchair users. After paying there is another heavy glass door to negotiate. Once inside access is easy.
Peter W — Google review
Beautiful piece of architecture! The lights come on at night and it looks even more spectacular. There is a fee to visit it inside. Side walks can be quite slippery so do have proper walking gear or even shoe spikes.
Tavi T — Google review
As others have mentioned this isn't a cathedral, but it's an interesting church nonetheless. Entrance is 60 NOK, bit you can just enjoy it from the outside. There is 4 hours free parking in the rear car park.

The Polar Museum, located in a charming wooden building by the harbor in Tromsø, is part of the Arctic University Museum of Norway. It showcases scientific, cultural, and archaeological exhibits related to the area's history and heritage. The museum delves into the city's origins as a hub for Arctic hunters and explorers, featuring captivating displays on exploration, hunting, and wildlife in Svalbard.
More interesting than expected! Remember to get the guide booklet in your preferred language when buying your tickets. Weekdays preferred as it’s less crowded. Pretty informative and lots of exhibits spread out over 3 floors. Some comments noted how things are a little gruesome but that’s the way of life for people in this part of the world in the past.
Teck B — Google review
It is really nice when you get there. You get to know the way of life in the North Pole and the polar history. Many representative items placed therein make it more realistic. The ticket is about 10€ per person. There are some souvenirs that you may also buy (prices are typical). A hard copy guide is given , free of charge, available in many languages.
Anna K — Google review
What an unforgettable experience when I visited it on 26 March 2025! The Polar Museum in Tromsø absolutely blew me away. It's incredibly well maintained, and every corner is packed with fascinating stories from the Arctic explorers and trappers who braved the extremes. I loved how all the information was available in multiple languages—it made everything so accessible and inclusive. The exhibits are a perfect mix of engaging history, incredible taxidermy, and authentic artifacts that truly transport you back in time. I could almost feel the chill of the polar expeditions just walking through! And speaking of chill—the temperature inside is so well controlled, making the whole visit comfortable, the temperature outside was just -2 degrees. Touching pieces of history and learning about the raw, untamed Arctic life left me deeply moved. A must-visit if you're in Tromsø. You'll leave with a whole new appreciation for the spirit of exploration!
Kalpesh G — Google review
Fantastic experience made even better, by the museum having booklets in different languages describing, each display.

This is a good museum if you want to understand the history of the region. It provides some interesting context, but be prepared for crowds as it was quite busy.
Pablo C — Google review
Located in the heart of Tromsø, The Polar Museum (Polarmuseet) offers visitors a captivating journey into Norway’s Arctic past. Housed in a charming 19th-century warehouse by the harbor, this museum focuses on the lives of polar explorers, trappers, and whalers who ventured into some of the world’s harshest environments. It's not just a museum—it's a portal into the gritty, courageous world of Arctic survival and discovery. Inside, you’ll find detailed exhibits on legendary Norwegian explorers like Roald Amundsen and Fridtjof Nansen, who played key roles in conquering the North and South Poles. Through authentic artifacts, old photographs, and personal journals, the museum brings to life the extreme challenges these men faced, from bitter cold to months of isolation. There’s also a strong focus on hunting culture, especially the lives of seal hunters and trappers who once spent years living in Arctic wilderness. While this aspect can be controversial, the museum presents it with historical context, allowing visitors to reflect on both the resilience and the impact of human activity in the polar regions. Although it’s not large, The Polar Museum is rich in storytelling and atmosphere. The creaky wooden floors and dim lighting make it feel like stepping into a time capsule.
Phạm T — Google review
A really interesting and informative place which is a significant cultural and historical. It is housed in a historic warehouse from 1830 and offers insights into Arctic exploration, sealing, and the cultural history of Svalbard. The museum features permanent exhibitions on polar expeditions, including those of Roald Amundsen and Fridtjof Nansen, and temporary exhibitions in the Sea Warehouse. We enjoyed our visit immensely.
Ross D — Google review
Really interesting museum which covers many aspects of life and explorations in the artic circle. Covering survival, flying, scientific expeditions and making a living (including hunting seals etc). Many of the information boards did not contain english or very little however a free online app with free wifi avaible was well presented in english and had ample information. An English paper guide was loaned for the tour also but I found the app easier to use. The price is 120 NOK and allow 1-2 hours for the visit.

Churches & Cathedrals
Tromsø Cathedral, also known as Tromso Domkirke, is a stunning Protestant place of worship located in the heart of Tromsø. Built in 1861 by the renowned architect Christian Heinrich Grosch, it stands out as one of Norway's largest wooden churches and is considered the northernmost Protestant cathedral in the world. The Gothic Revival style and its unique construction using primarily wood make it a remarkable landmark.
Centuries old church with antique furniture, especially the pipe organ, makes a magnificent landmark. Free entry. Ticket booking required if you like to attend the prayer session on Sundays. It's worth to pay to listen the cathedral music of the magnificent pipe organ. It lies nearby the harbour for cruise ships and in the heart of the city. Several souvenir shops around there.
Win M — Google review
What a wonderful moment to visit this century wood church in Tromso. I went on Monday but it was closed. But I got to see its night view. Luckily I stayed nearby in town. So I went again on Tuesday. When stepped in to the church, I felt amazed of the building and atmosphere. Peaceful and calm. There was a lady playing old piano. Such beautiful piece and real experience. Thanks for keeping such priceless church.
Annie C — Google review
A sacred symbol of the Arctic, this cathedral is Norway's largest wooden church in the world. Built in 1861 by architect Christian Heinrich Grosch, it stands out for its Gothic Revival wooden architecture. It is located in the heart of the city, close to the main street, Storgata. I stayed here for three nights, passing almost every time because of its central location. It is beautiful both day and night, and is peaceful, alive, and calming in itself.
Pisit P — Google review
It's lovely to see a wooden cathedral, which definitely gives it a different feel to most I have visited. There are some interesting information boards on the back wall that give some insight into the history of the building. Free entry and toilets are available. The only downside is there's no access to the balcony seating, which was a shame as I would have liked to have gotten a closer look at their older organ.
Michael R — Google review
Great plaza right in front of the church in the heart of Tromso city. Nice park where you can sit down and relaxe enjoy your books or packed lunch.
Putri D — Google review
Slightly strange. 80 NOK (around £5.70) to get in, but it's a church. No free pass to pray, these days? 🙏 Nothing inside, really, worth seeing. Warm, nice pews, and a great stained glass window (which might have been more impressive when it was not dark outside). A nice installation where you could move marbles into areas that matter to do. Sustainability and inclusively for me ... They were doing a sound-check for a concert later, so we had some guitar and piano bouncing off the walls and ceiling that was good ... All a little strange. Looks great from the outside though!
Patrick M — Google review
Our Havila cruise's southbound itinerary includes a 1.5-hour stop with an optional Midnight Concert tour at the Tromsø Cathedral. The concert features three musicians—a pianist, a singer, and a saxophonist—in a lovely cathedral setting. However, the performance is rather slow-paced, and some find it somnolent. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. I understand there are also daytime performances available. If you are on Havila cruise, I think it is best to utilize the limited time and explore the town rather than this Midnight Concert. Though shops are closed, they leave the beautiful lights on. However,if you stay in Tromso and want to stop by for a visit,I think it worthwhile.

Polaria aquarium is a unique and striking arctic aquarium located in Tromso, Norway. Housed in a modern building designed to resemble ice floes, the aquarium offers an interactive and educational experience focused on Arctic wildlife. Visitors can enjoy exhibits showcasing the impact of climate change on glaciers and Arctic wildlife. With its kid-friendly approach, Polaria is a must-visit attraction for families, offering a panoramic cinema and the opportunity to observe seals.
We absolutely loved it! A great place for the whole family. The seals were the highlight — graceful, clever, and fascinating to watch. The exhibitions are engaging and educational, offering insight into Arctic nature. We stayed for about 2 hours, but we could have easily stayed longer. The family ticket cost 740 NOK (around €70), which is worth it. Parking cost 60 NOK for 2 hours. The staff was friendly and helpful. The souvenir shop is excellent, with a wide selection of gifts and keepsakes. Highly recommend, especially for families with kids!
Daria B — Google review
Loved my time at the Polaria aquarium in Tromso where the seals were definitely the highlight. The aquarium itself aims to be more educational than "entertaining", especially where the seals are concerned and they definitely managed to achieve this. Initially skeptical, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed myself, and how well the seals are taken care of and respected. Definitely recommend it to both children and adults.
Nidhi M — Google review
Small aquarium but very nice exhibits. Some unique species since it focuses on arctic. It does have areas under construction so it is expanding. It has a very nice seal exhibit with tanks and a walk thru tunnel. 3 seal training sessions as well.
Thomas S — Google review
Such a fun place to visit! There are informational videos throughout the day, interactive exhibits and the seal feedings and trainings are open to watch. I would say the entry fee is slightly overpriced, but we still had a wonderful experience.

Little aquarium in Tromso, Norway. Its a fantastic place to bring family and group of friends. A great place to see the seal up close. We where there during winter, and the scenario outside the aquarium was just as great. Theres lots of activities for kids to learn about the oceanic life
Sandee T — Google review
Nice place. Plenty of information accessible, staff is humble and you can shop. Only downside is there internal fixes going on in the building which kid of ruins the vibe and variety of species is limited. If you want to see seals eat, visit at 12:30 pm😄

We absolutely loved our visit to Polaria! It’s such a fascinating and family-friendly place — both educational and fun. The exhibitions, the aquarium, and especially the adorable seals kept us all entertained. Our little boy was so happy that he said, “This feels like heaven!” ❤️ Definitely a must-visit when you’re in Tromsø.

Mountain cable car
Fjellheisen is a popular attraction in Tromso, Norway, offering a thrilling ride on a dual-gondola cable car up Storsteinen mountain. At 420 meters above sea level, the panoramic views of Tromsø, its rugged coastline, distant mountains, and the majestic Lyngen Alps are simply breathtaking. Visitors can also enjoy the sweeping vistas of the city and surrounding mountains and fjords from the cafe at the top.
Very beautiful! I highly recommend taking the staircase up or down and doing the cable for the other direction. If you are looking for a challenge, you can take the Sherpa staircase up and then the cable cart down or vice verse. Very beautiful scenic view. I highly recommend. There’s a very cute cafe located at the top as well and a variety of view points.
Shalon J — Google review
On 26th March 2025 I visited Fjellheisen and it was an amazing experience! The cable car is incredibly well-maintained, which made me feel safe and comfortable during the ride. The charges are fair, considering the breathtaking views you get at the top, especially at night. Speaking of views, they are absolutely stunning! The viewing point is perfectly situated at the vantage point, allowing for some truly unforgettable scenery. It’s a great spot not only for enjoying the views but also for skiing adventures. Plus, I appreciated that the washrooms were clean and well-kept. Overall, I highly recommend Fjellheisen for anyone looking to enjoy the natural beauty of Tromsø while having a fun and adventurous day!
Kalpesh G — Google review
Fast cable car to the top of the mountain! The views on the way up/down are great and at the top are awesome!! Best views are towards Tromso city as you go up/down. You can also go for walks at the top of the mountain and beyond, there are viewpoints giving 360 degree views too. The only negative is the steep ticket price (NOK595 for a return ticket, Oct ‘25) which seems very overpriced. If you are up for it, you can hike one way (either up or down) and buy a one way ticket for NOK 385.
Pradhyot S — Google review
Worst experience ever. The ticket is extremely expensive. The walking path was extremely dangerous, fully covered with snow and ice, and no safety measures or signs were provided. The staff told us it was safe to walk down with a one-way ticket, but that was completely misleading. It was so slippery and unsafe that we had to buy extra tickets to go down by cable car. Totally not worth the money and a very disappointing experience. I won't go there ever again. Never recommend this place. Dangerous place.
Cheeyin O — Google review
The place is AMAZING!!! There is a nice view of Tromsø and is a must-do in the city!! You can get tickets before at the website and there too!!! Get prepared because up there can be colder than the city! Dress warmly!!
Ana M — Google review
The cable car is not available. They're doing repairs or something. So, we climbed a bit by foot, on the trial followed by the sherpa steps. Not all the way to the top, because it is quite difficult... Also, there are too many mosquitos all around, the size of overweight trolls, and they are insatiable. We took some good pictures though...
Taniel V — Google review
This is absolutely unacceptable for a tourist attraction. You pay 595 NOK per person (around £45) for a 4-minute cable car to what is literally an active construction site. There are excavators, fencing, mud, and exposed wiring everywhere. Visitors are directed through a plywood “No Entry” corridor with slippery stairs and no proper barriers near icy drops. It’s unsafe and not what’s shown online. Fjellheisen should not be charging full price or even operating in these conditions. Completely misrepresented and dangerous.
Philippe I — Google review
View is amazing but completely unsafe when icy. No attempt to grit. Not sure if it’s because they are in the middle of a new construction. For the price they should offer the use of crampons.

Beautiful place to visit all year round, but only for a couple of days at a time. This place is very busy for a picturesque island. The place where we stayed on tromsoya island pretty much gave the overall view but it was the storm that we could not explore much around the city. But its very beautiful city of what we walked around in the rains pouring over.

This is one of the picturesque places we visited in Europe and it was awesome!! The people were friendly, the entire island is walkable. Do hike from the island to the Cable car beyond the Arctic Cathedral. Don’t miss the Fjords exploration, this was the best part of my trip to Tromsø. It’s worth it to visit in the Winter. I’d recommend to go there during late November to January if you’re planning to catch the lights. But don’t visit just because of the aurora as you might be disappointed. Aurora catching depends on a lot of factors and if it appears, Tromsø is one of the best places to catch them from.

I went to Tromso, capital of Tromsoya in October to see the northern lights. It's a charming small city on one of the many islands of Norway. With bridges connecting to the mainland and other islands. It was cold and wet when I was there and cloudy forecast for my entire stay there... and still there was a break in the clouds at night, and I got to see the northern lights. I quickly asked my driver/guide/photographer to take a picture of me and Aurora 😁. The picture came out surprisingly good. In spite of the cold weather, the people there are warm and very friendly and speak English fluently. I didn't expect such an international community for such a small city all the way up close to the North Pole. Great experience there.

Mountain peak
Mount Storsteinen is a prominent attraction in Tromso, Norway, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city and surrounding area. Visitors can reach the summit by taking the Fjellheisen cable car or climbing up the 1,200 stone steps on the Sherpa staircase. At 421 meters above sea level, this majestic rock formation provides an ideal vantage point for observing Tromso and even catching a glimpse of the Northern Lights.
Can you not be not here! Take the cable car and see few of the most iconic views in Tromso, the cityline, the sun (if at all!), the sea, the mountain peaks, and more! Highly recommended!

Tromsø is a beautiful city in northern Norway, known for its stunning Arctic landscapes and vibrant cultural scene. It is often called the "Gateway to the Arctic" because of its location above the Arctic Circle. One of the most popular attractions in Tromsø is the cable car, which takes visitors up to Mount Storsteinen. From the top, there is a breathtaking view of the city, surrounded by majestic mountains and fjords. It’s a perfect spot to watch the Northern Lights in winter.
Valentyna B — Google review
Summary: This is a nice mountain and it's a great spot for a nice local hike, picnic, or to escape the city. Make sure to take anything you need - proper shoes, snacks, water, a small first aid kit, warm attire, etc. Beautiful mountain with great views of both nature and the city. The trail markers can be somewhat hidden so just pay attention to where you are going. It is easy to get off of a trail, so make sure to remember your way back to the trail in the event you decide to go off the trail. Overall, this is a safe mountain with awesome views. Just like any hike, go prepared, with proper shoes, a snack, water, etc.

Easy to medium difficulty hike up. Good view of Tromsø from the top. You can also choose to take the cable car to go both up and down; but quite pricey for the short rides.

One of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen. When you visit there on foot, make sure that you are fit💪
Yuko H — Google review
Beautiful mountain view overseeing Tromso city. A return adult ticket on the Fjellheisen costs 345NOK (apprx 33USD) for a 4mins ride - which I find a little pricey, but you wouldn’t want to trek up in the snow.

Raketten Bar & Pølse is a small, one-person hot dog stand located in the center of Tromso. It's known for serving the most delicious reindeer and pork hotdogs with homemade ciabatta buns and a variety of toppings. The kiosk, which claims to be the smallest bar in the world, has been a mainstay in the community since 1911 and is considered an Important Cultural Monument.
Very tasty hot dogs with good sauces. You may try reindeer and pork sausages. The reindeer sausage is recommended. You may need to wait in a queue for about 20 minutes depending on the time of the day. There is a place on the back side of Raketten where you can sit and enjoy your food
Rahil M — Google review
What’s this cute little hut?! I got curious and went closer… It’s a reindeer hot dog stand! Wait… reindeer? As in… Santa’s reindeer? 😳 I hesitated for a moment, ready to accept that Santa might not bring me gifts next year — but I decided to try it anyway. There was a line of people, it’s right in the city center, and since reindeer meat sounds rare, I thought it would be super expensive. But it was only 70 NOK — about the same as fries at McDonald’s nearby! 🍟 As for the taste: It’s a reindeer & beef sausage, but honestly, it just tastes like a really good regular hot dog! I probably couldn’t tell the difference if someone told me it was just beef. 😂 The pickled topping adds a nice sour touch that goes perfectly with the sausage. I originally went just for the “I ate reindeer!” experience, but the hot dog itself was actually really tasty and well-made. 🌭✨ You can sit by a campfire on reindeer fur right next to the stand — such a cozy and magical experience! 🔥❄️

The cutest hotdog hut with delicious reindeer hotdogs! A Must try in Tromsø. We got the reindeer dog with potato salad, crispy onions, ketchup and hotdog sauce. Super friendly staff who listed all the toppings for us and shared our excitement as first-time visitors.

We had planned visiting here before our Norwegian cruise and it didnt disappoint. We had the reindeer and beef hotdogs and tried a local dark and light beer. All of it was incredible as was the service which came with a friendly smile. Loved it! Would definitely recommend a visit.

I never imagined I’d ever try a reindeer hotdog until I stumbled upon the tiny but famous Raketten Bar in Tromsø. To my surprise, it turned out to be one of the most flavorful and delicious things I’ve ever eaten! The hotdog was packed with rich, unique taste, and the experience was unforgettable. The place itself is small but full of charm and character a must-visit if you’re in Tromsø and looking to try something truly special.
Abigail A — Google review
Absolut fantastic! Never had reindeer beef before and this Hot Dog is Amazing, together with a hot chocolate with Marshmallows as a Dessert is a perfect combination. A cozy Place to sit is in the back, with furs to sit on.
Sarah — Google review
A must try spot for any hotdog enthusiast, it was an easy 9/10, for someone who doesn’t usually have hotdogs. The combination between beef and reindeer was for sure unique and packed with flavor, while complimented by the carefully chosen toppings (we went for the classic toppings). Also, a place full of history that dates back to a long time ago. Overall, a place you cannot miss while exploring the streets of Tromso!

McDonald’s Tromsø is part of Norway's largest fast food chain, with over 70 locations across the country. The first McDonald’s in Oslo opened in 1978 and has since expanded nationwide. Despite being busy, the staff at this location are extremely patient and passionate about their work. It is known for its large space with plenty of seating and set meal deals available. Additionally, it holds the distinction of being the northernmost McDonald’s in the world.
Cutest McDonald’s moment ever at the northernmost branch! Maybe it’s the magical Arctic vibes, but that Filet-O-Fish tasted extra special — crispy, fluffy, and just wow. Still dreaming about it… or maybe it’s just the location love!
Ailine L — Google review
In terms of menu, it’s probably the best McDonald’s I’ve been to! However it was extremely busy inside and no seats were free so we had to sit on the floor outside which wasn’t great! We also ordered a post card which we didn’t end up getting so I’ll give it a 4* for that!
Liam D — Google review
I came during the weekday around 7:00p and it was pretty slow. It was a really cool experience going to the most northern McDonalds in the world. The restaurant is huge. There’s two story with tons of seating. I love the Kiosk which allows you to order and check out at your own pace. There were a variety of options as well. I ordered the McChicken with fries and my partner ordered the same with sweet potato fries. The food took a while but when it arrived it was hot and delicious. I would highly recommend stopping in!
Shalon J — Google review
When I heard about it, I knew I just had to go! They sell a special souvenir postcard for 11 NOK, and sweet potato fries for 63 NOK. I was shocked at first — “That’s about 1,000 yen for fries!?” 😳 But after tasting them… wow. Sweet and salty — the perfect combo! It’s honestly like the best potato dessert ever. It’s a bit pricey, but you can only try this in the Nordics, so if you’ve made it this far north, it’s totally worth it! 🍠✨
ASUMI K — Google review
Clean and friendly, quiet and comfortable, cannot complain and found it more relaxing than most other McDonald’s. The kitchen staff don’t seem to be running around and rushed, systematically doing a great job.
R M — Google review
McDonald’s, Tromsø Stopped by the northernmost McDonald’s in the world while in Tromsø—had to check it off the list! The food was the usual McDonald’s standard: familiar, quick, and satisfying. The chai latte was surprisingly good, especially in the cold weather. They also had some fun extras like postcards and greeting cards for sale, which made for a nice little souvenir moment. That said, the restaurant could’ve been a bit cleaner—seemed like there weren’t enough staff keeping up with the outside area, which made it feel a little neglected. Still, a cool experience overall just for the novelty! Rating: 3.5/5
Ewe H — Google review
Came here to take away my early lunch at around 9am+. Just 2 sets of orders took more than 45mins to be ready. Only 3 staffs were working. I discovered 1 thing that there was no hygiene guideline in Mc Donald's Tromso. The staff in the kitchen prepared burger did not wear hand gloves. He touched the burger with his hands. Oh my. Usually staffs need to wear hand gloves when prepare food especially in the fast food chain. That's why I gave 1 star in service. Another issue was preparation time took too long. In Malaysia, our order will be ready in 5 minutes. Not more than 10 minutes. Lastly there was no free postcard. Previously you can request free postcard. Now you have to pay NOK10 for the postcard. Worse was the staff forgot to put in and I needed to walk back to claim it. Need to improve.
Annie C — Google review
Visited here not for the food, but because it’s officially the world’s northernmost McDonald’s and that novelty alone made it worth the stop! Busy with tourists, especially at lunchtime—but ordering kiosks are efficient, and seating is spacious for a fast-food outlet above the Arctic Circle. Though novel, the food quality was similar to other McDonald's, the visit was more about the location than the meal. Definitely worth a visit for the story and a postcard to remember it by—even if comfort food doesn’t top your list.

Embark on an unforgettable adventure with Brim Explorer Tromsø - Meeting Point Tours, where you can experience a well-organized whale safari. Despite the limited daylight hours, guests were treated to sightings of orcas and different whale species during the 8-9 hour trip. The comfortable boat features a good cafeteria and attentive personnel who provide insightful information about Tromso and the whales throughout the journey.
The trip started with a 3–4 hour boat ride that showed us the beautiful Tromsø fjords. As we continued toward the open North Sea, we were lucky enough to see several families of orcas – an absolutely unforgettable experience! The crew was wonderful throughout the entire journey, sharing lots of interesting knowledge bits about whales, the marine ecosystem, and many other insights. The boat itself was very clean and well maintained, and you could really tell that the crew was passionate and knowledgeable about what they do. A great experience for both young and old — highly recommended!
Marc A — Google review
Arrived on time to a well organised trip. Everyone on board, all 126, were seated in comfortable seats. The journey is long but the views spectacular. We found a pod of orca along with other boats and watched for the best part of an hour. Our trip were by far the most responsible with regards to distance from the pod. They are very much concerned with conservation and made sure to be well positioned. We still had great sightseeing. We left the area as other tour companies got too close. We left and travelled back listening to informative slides about the whales and conservation. I highly recommend this company and their tour. Definitely use them for your whale watching!!
Richard C — Google review
We went out for two consecutive days with Brim Explorer for their Silent Whale Watching expeditions, Our guides were incredible and very well informed, Fred is particularly funny. We were not in the least disappointed with our trips, on the first day we saw a pod of Orca swimming with an infant a 3 Fin Whales, the second day were lucky enough to see both Humpbacks and Orca although the sea was a lot rougher on the second day but was still an incredible experience. The cost may seem high at first but do not let that put you off, I personally do not think you will receive a better service. The boat can on occasion feel crowded but in general we were able to find a comfortable spot to look out on the water to try and spot the whales. Definitely one of the best operators in Tromsø if this is one of your intended activities.

We took the Arctic Fjord Cruise and it was a nice experience. The cloudy and rainy weather wasn't ideal, but we still had a fun time and managed to get some good pictures. The only area for improvement would be the food. We were served a lentil soup that, to be honest, was not very impressive as it was completely blended. It would have been much better if it had whole lentils. On the other hand, our guide Franchesca was fantastic! She was very engaging and gave excellent explanations
Pablo C — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We went on an Orca and whale watching trip — everything was perfectly organized. We were almost late, but the crew even called to make sure we’d make it in time. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any orcas or whales that day, but what truly shows their quality is that they refunded us without any issues. That kind of honesty and professionalism is priceless. I would absolutely recommend them and would book again anytime!
Radek N — Google review
Fantastic excursion out to look for whales! Very comfortable, well equipped boat, great amenities and staff. Shout out to our guides Tobias and Bee for providing so much information about the environment, history and marine life!
Aimee C — Google review
Absolutely perfect trip. The staff are welcoming and informative. Fred, Francesca and Oleg gave great presentations on the area and the whales. We purchased the soup as part of the booking and it was delicious. Free from gluten and vegan. The atmosphere onboard was incredible, a real buzz amongst the crew and passengers. They announced what was happening even if we hit a small swell and the boat rocked (it didn't much, a real calm journey) so anyone concerned felt safe. And to top it off we saw orcas! Loads of them! A family with a calf! I actually got quite emotional. Beautiful trip.
Jayne H — Google review
We made a very good decision choosing Brimexplorer. The boat was very well equipped, and the team was always very friendly. In the end, we even saw both: whales and the Northern Lights. Perfect! We would recommend this tour to everyone!
