The Pinacoteca Civica, located in the heart of il Corso within Teatro Cilea, is a captivating art space showcasing a rich collection of paintings by Calabrian artists. Housed in elegant rooms within the theater building, this museum offers visitors an opportunity to appreciate works donated by private collectors and noble families from Reggio, as well as pieces conserved in the National Museum.
Very nice collection, from the 17th century to the modern era. Very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful place to enjoy art in a quiet tranquil atmosphere.

It's a nice collection of local painters! However, some of the paintings are not in a good state, and are not restored properly.

It is not a big exposition, but some paintings worth seeing, also only 3eur. I was the only visitor and the staff was super friendly and helpful. So I felt like a VIP. The staff helped me to find all the paintings in the booklet. Really recommend to stop by.

(Translated by Google) The Pinacoteca exhibits works by Calabrian artists and exponents of the Neapolitan school. Noteworthy are the paintings by Mattia Preti and Luca Giordano, and the two magnificent panels by Antonello da Messina. Sculptures include Pietro Bernini's Laocoon and Francesco Jerace's portrait of Nossis. The room dedicated to the artist Umberto Boccioni from Reggio Calabria is also noteworthy. (Translated by Google) I was here on September 5, 2025, and it was very interesting. There were many interesting paintings on display, and it was wheelchair accessible. The problem is that THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS AS A METHOD OF PAYMENT. I was told it was a temporary issue, but I don't know how true that is. I came as soon as they reopened in the afternoon, so I had it all to myself. If you find yourself in Reggio Calabria, I recommend visiting it, as it's a museum housing many works of art that beautifully tell the history of the city and its artists. It's a shame about the administration.

The Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia, also known as the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria, is a significant cultural institution in Italy. Situated in Reggio Calabria, it boasts an impressive collection of ancient Greek art and artifacts from the 8th century BC, as well as items from the Roman and prehistoric eras. The museum's expansion has not only modernized its facilities but also strengthened its connection with the city.
A very well-kept museum with beautiful pieces and interesting exhibitions that allow you to learn about Calabria's history. Needless to say, the Bronzi di Riace are a must-see. Our guide was wonderful and explained everything clearly and in detail (my tour was in Italian). You can't miss this place if you're in Reggio!

Excellent museum! We were 2 of 20 people allowed in the room at a time to see the Riace bronzes! What a luxury compared to incredibly packed museums in Rome! It is a beautiful, clean building with clear directions to take you through all the artifacts. The Riace Bronzes are incredible and it’s hard to comprehend how perfect & how old they are. Worth a visit while in the lovely city of Reggio Calabria
Raquel M — Google review
Really worth the visit, particularly enjoyed the smiling figurines on the bottom floor that seemed to be quite typical of the region. Well curated with a chronological structure starting from oldest period on the top floor to earliest, a lot of well preserved artifacts and historical context on these

Very nice museum. Not big, but having impressive two bronze statues from the Greek period in Calabria. Those are two out of totally five survived statues. Manybother interestibg expinats to be seen. You will need about two hours, maximum three, to explore the museum. However worthwike to visit it!

The bronze statues are amazing. Admission is free on the first weekend of the month. It's an interesting place to learn a little about the history of Reggio Calabria.

The museum is very well organised and it’s very welcoming. There’s a lot to learn. The statues are also very beautiful but it was very disappointing to see they’re in a room with white walls and no context whatsoever (contrary to the rest of the museum). Good thing we read about them before visiting because otherwise we wouldn’t know exactly what we were looking for.

Wow! Seriously impressed! Perfectly organized with clear paths to follow, explanations in Italian and perfect English, touch panel with 3D reconstructions, perfect diffused lighting. Very interesting collection from the Neolithic and Greek time, very informative, I discovered brand new facts I didn't know (i.e. there were lead bullets you would throw with your hand during war). Impressed despite I've visited Louvre, El Prado, British museum, Vatican museum etc. An unexpected gem

Really interesting explosion about other bronze statues. I felt really immersed in the atmosphere. Also at some point I was the only visitor in that room, which felt very cool. They even let me to come back to see Bronzi statues up close due to the fact it was closed for investigation and could see only through glass.

Located in Reggio Calabria, Italy, Castello Aragonese is a fortress with crenellated towers that dates back to the Byzantine era. Despite its name, the castle has ancient origins, with traces of fortifications in the area dating back to 536 AD. It is a significant historical symbol of the city and hosts exhibitions and events. The castle also houses the observatory of the National Institute of Geophysics since 1956.
Such a beautiful place to visit. It's only small and you can easily get around in 30 minutes. Entry is 5 Euro and in cash only. A guide will explain the layout and where to go. It's a gorgeous structure to visit and a must visit when in Reggio. It's a shame that more couldn't be preserved after the earthquake and Tsunami of 1908.
Coral C — Google review
Admission costs €5. There are no furnished rooms to visit, but there may be temporary exhibitions inside. From the upper terrace, visitors can enjoy beautiful views of the Strait of Messina and Mount Etna. The visit, including the external tour of the walls, lasts about an hour. The castle is believed to have been initially built around the 6th century AD, but reliable information about it begins around the 11th century AD. Over the centuries, it was conquered and modified by the Ostrogoths, Lombards, Byzantines, Normans, Angevins and Aragonese, the latter of whom gave it its current name. Other kingdoms succeeded one another in the following centuries. Despite the fact that the massive original towers had withstood the earthquake of 1908 well, some proposed its demolition. However, only partial demolition was carried out, and restoration and reconstruction work began only forty years ago.

So much more could be done with the surrounding grounds. There does seem to be some attempt to improve it so fingers crossed the renovation work will be completed. Reggio is a lovely city and deserves a great castle 😊

The Church of Saint Mary of the Announcement 'degli Ottimati' in Reggio Calabria, Italy, is a historic church that boasts a fusion of Byzantine and Norman architectural styles. Dating back to the 10th century, it has undergone various renovations over time. Inside, visitors can admire intricate mosaics and decorations influenced by Byzantine art, while its structure reflects Norman architectural elements. The church is a popular place of worship for travelers and locals alike.
The Chiesa degli Ottimati, located in Piazza Castello, has Byzantine-Norman origins, also the building was built in 1933. It takes its name from the ancient crypt below the nearby Church of S. Gregorio Magno used by the Ottimati, a congregation of nobles founded by the Normans. Inside, the coats of arms of some noble families of Reggio Calabria are preserved. The star is made from the red Byzantine dome. The plan internally is a three-nave, with a floor adorned with polychrome mosaics from different eras, contributing to the charm and importance of the light. The altar is in baroque style, with a part of the Annunciation of the Florentine Agostino Ciampelli (1597). This is based on the dates from 1783 and 1908, the church was written in the early days of the November 19th century. The reconstruction was based on the supervision of the school of Beato Angelico in Milan, on the project of the architect Pompilio Seno from 1927, which adopted the pre-existing Norman Byzantine type system of the Cappella degli Ottimati, maintaining some of the original elements such as the four columns at the entrance to the central nave. Since 1964 it is part of the college of Gesuiti.
P P — Google review
A place where I could really pray.
Hery R — Google review
(Translated by Google) The church, which stands close to the Aragonese Castle, is easily identifiable by its red dome of clear Byzantine inspiration, while the plan has 3 naves divided by a colonnade. The original church was demolished in 1916, while the current one is a project by the architect Pompilio Seno dating back to 1927 and owes its name to the fact that, since 1564, it was used by a brotherhood of nobles from Reggio, the Venerable Congregazione dei Nobili Ottimati under the title of the SS. Annunziata". The church was perhaps a private chapel of the Norman kings and this can be seen from some architectural aspects of the crypt and from the precious Romanesque-Norman mosaic floor.

(Translated by Google) It's a gem. The original church was built in the year 1100. Only a stone mosaic remains of it on the floor, in front of the main altar. On the main altar we can enjoy the Annunciation, a painting apparently of Flemish origin from 1690. At first it was a Greco-Roman church, hence the structure of the building and the carved stone capitals of the time. Today it is a Catholic and Jesuit church. A small wonder that excites anyone who enters it. Of course, being a Jesuit church, it has a couple of paintings of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Also very beautiful.

(Translated by Google) Small, very ancient church, even if it was rebuilt on a different site from the original in the early 1900s. It preserves the flooring (wonderful) and some columns. Small, home to a selected Catholic community in the city center of Reggio. Worth visiting. Really cool little museum! Lots of interesting info about the history of bergamot, and you can listen to everything on your phone through their audio guide, which is super handy. You also get to try some bergamot-based food and there’s a shop with so many great things - perfumes, honey, oils, and more. The staff are genuinely friendly and happy to chat, which makes the visit even nicer. It's free to enter, but you can leave a donation if you'd like. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in Reggio Calabria!

We were actually thinking... would it be worth visiting a whole museum dedicated to a fruit? But it turned out to be an extraordinary experience. First of all, we were welcomed by the wonderful Signora Mimma Triglia, who introduced us to the bergamotto citrus, explaining its benefits and healing properties. We were truly touched by her warm and simple approach, by the quality of the products, and by the volunteer work that both Mimma and her lovely colleague do at the museum. If you’re thinking about visiting — please do! And make sure to say hello to the two gorgeous ladies who made our day in Reggio.

Cathedral
When visiting Reggio Calabria, a must-see is the Duomo di Reggio Calabria. This cathedral, originally constructed in the 11th century, stands as a symbol of the city's rich history. Despite being repeatedly destroyed over the centuries by various earthquakes, it has been rebuilt and restored to its current form which is just over 100 years old. The cathedral boasts stunning beauty and offers visitors an opportunity for quiet reflection or prayer.

(Translated by Google) Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of Mary. After the catastrophic earthquake of 1908 that destroyed Reggio and Messina, in 1913 Archbishop Rinaldo Rousset decided to rebuild the Cathedral of Reggio, entrusting the task to Carmelite Father Carmelo Umberto Angiolini. Envisioning the use of new materials and earthquake-proof technical measures, he designed the new building in 1917, defining it in the Neo-Romanesque style: "The reinterpretation of Romanesque and Gothic elements, influenced by the eclectic cultural movement, has given the sacred building its own characteristics, lending it originality, solemnity, and harmony." Work was completed in early 1928 to allow for the celebration of the Calabrian Eucharistic Congress. The cathedral was then reconsecrated on September 2, 1928, by Archbishop Carmelo Pujia. On June 21, 1978, with a papal bull, the cathedral of Reggio was elevated to the dignity of a minor basilica.

Reggio Di Calabria Lido is a small underground station located along the seafront of Reggio Calabria. The station, designed by Marcello Piacentini in the 1930s, features a grand museum building that captures sunlight despite being underground. It is well-maintained with clean bathrooms and security personnel present. Although the ticket machine may be slow at times, the staff ensures that the station is not neglected.
A beautiful and lovely old town by the sea. The city has a nice long shopping street where you'll find nice restaurants and shops.

(Translated by Google) The Reggio Calabria Lido station is a small underground station, given that above it and for the entire railway journey up to the central station, there is the seafront of Reggio Calabria. The station is very well kept and the bathrooms are very clean, even perfumed. The staff was present, even though it was 8pm... a sign that the station is not abandoned to itself, but cared for. Very different from my memory linked to this place 20/30 years ago, when it was one of the dirtiest and least safe places in Reggio. Compliments! I sincerely hope that the State Railways and the Municipality of Reggio Calabria continue on this path in keeping this station (increasingly at the center of city life) underground, clean and safe.

(Translated by Google) It's a shame to see a facility in this state. It is a focal point of the city especially for those coming from outside to go to the seaside because it is just a stone's throw from the beach. Structurally modern and almost monumental but in total abandonment. No ticket office and all the places near the platform have been closed for some time. It's not nice if you find yourself alone, it inspires a certain fear, it doesn't feel like a safe place to me. It's a real shame especially given its centrality. Leaving the station there are also bus platforms which could have been better exploited by placing a stop for the city lines. Structurally speaking it is a beautiful modern structure that ties perfectly with the classic character of the seafront. An elevator has been added, essential for better traffic. Perhaps it can be improved by updating the lighting system with a latest generation one (it would be interesting if there were some colored light effects along the walls that hide the lift and stairs). And I believe that connections can be improved by using the external platforms as stops for regular buses.

Gelateria Cesare is a renowned ice cream parlor located on the Piazza Indipendenza in Reggio Calabria, Italy. It has been an integral part of the city's history for three generations and is a favorite stop for locals and tourists alike. Despite its small size, it attracts long queues due to its delicious and authentic gelato flavors such as bergamot, pistachio, cassata, and more.
My hubby had the Peanut butter and Carmel Gelato in a brioche bun. I enjoyed Lemon and a scoop of fig in a crispy waffle cone. Both were delicious!! There is no place to sit but the surrounding area is nice for a stroll while you enjoy!

I recently took a trip to Reggio Calabria, where my dear friend Martina recommended that I try "Gellateria Cesaro." As always, I value her advice. While searching for the gelateria, I noticed the Cesare building, which looked quite different to me, and there was a long queue of people waiting outside. One downside was the number of beggars who kept approaching for a euro or less. However, the staff were very polite and helpful. The variety of ice cream flavors was impressive, making it understandable if someone feels unsure about their choice. I ended up choosing pistachio, biscuits, and chocolate, and the pistachio was definitely the highlight!
Meh R — Google review
Overall, disappointing …. Decent gelato, but not worth the hype. 5€ for a brioche with three scoops. 4€ for a cup with 3 flavours. Whipped cream is free. We tried mandorla, pistachio sorbet, Nutella (cesarella), biscotto, bergamotto, and stracciatella between us. Mandorla was the best, the others were fine but just average. Very very bustling at all times of day!

Dylan P — Google review
A mixed experience – amazing taste, sadly less than amazing service. Yes, the gelato is good. Gambero Rosso gave them the “Tre Coni” for 2025, which means it’s officially among the best 72 gelaterias in Italy. That’s not just marketing — it’s recognition from people who know what they’re talking about. Some flavors are truly well balanced, interesting, and rich. You can tell they care about the product. By the way, one can choose up to 3 flavors per "coppa" of any size. But for me, the overall experience was not pleasant to say the least. It is my first time in Italy, and I have been to Cesare a few times this week. The first time, I didn’t realize you had to pay before ordering. Nobody told me, and there weren’t any clear signs (at least not in a way that would help someone who isn’t local). A few staff members got very intense with me — almost shouting — just because I didn’t know the system. I understand they’re under pressure, but it was still jarring. On that day and time the crowd wasn't even that big (maybe 3-5 people). Especially as a foreigner, it left me feeling out of place and a little dehumanized. The process is fast — too fast. You don’t really get a chance to speak or ask questions. You just have to order super quickly, and if you don’t, things go wrong. One time the crowd was very long (20+ people), and I was ordering together with someone, and the situation got tangled. I paid and one staff member already had our cups so I assumed he would take both of our orders. However, another staff member expected me to speak to him instead. I hesitated (because the other staff member had both of our cups), but then started ordering because that was what he wanted me to do – he simply became irritated and started ignoring me, then served the next person without a word. I tried to explain, but I guess at that point it didn’t matter. Thankfully, another staff member was very patient and very kind, which helped. The flavors I tried the first time were great. On my second visit, they were less so — still good, but either too sweet or just not to my taste that day. Also, after that second visit, I had a strange stomach ache a few minutes after I finished the ice cream. Nothing serious, just unexpected. I don’t have any medical allergies (I’ve done thorough testing), and I rarely have issues with food. Maybe the sugar, maybe the dairy – I’ve noticed Italian milk feels a bit different from what I’m used to in Germany. Still, it passed quickly, so I'm sure the food quality is good. Just maybe some flavors are too sweet for me, and I hadn't had food for a few hours before the ice cream on that day, so my stomach must have protested against sweets on an empty stomach TLDR: Flavors: 5/5 Waiting: 3/5 (long, but fair) Service: 2/5 (no space for newcomers or confusion, but some staff members are very kind) I’d still recommend it, the taste is very good and the prices are fair too, but with a small note: if it’s your first time, go in prepared. And maybe, try not to take it personally if things feel a little harsh.

(Translated by Google) It is truly a satisfaction to be able to see this villa in all its splendor as the citizens saw it at the beginning of its golden era. Finally, the restoration work on the facade has brought back the beauty and rich details of the Venetian style, from the balustrades to the terrace cornices. I don't know if the interior will be used but at least tourists and citizens will be able to admire all the beauty of this pearl overlooking the most beautiful seafront in Italy. This building undoubtedly gives the charm of the city's history, bringing a bit of splendor to this already beautiful seafront. The villa is historic, built immediately after the great earthquake of 1908 and due to its architectural characteristics it is one of a kind on the entire seafront. It is of great prominence. I don't think it is municipal property but the owners could donate a piece of this villa to all citizens and especially to tourists by making it visitable. Once I entered and there were no particular finishes underneath. The entrance with the three wrought iron doors, the marble staircase and the upstairs are finely crafted in detail and finishing. The rooms have the original parquet. I think they could use the rooms on the ground floor for exhibitions. While the entrance and the upstairs, if it were furnished, would already be a museum just like the great royal palaces where the furnishings and finishes speak for themselves.

This makes the experience more structured and educational, especially for children and school groups. * Educational Activities: It offers a variety of attractions and installations that allow visitors to experiment and learn through play on the themes of ecology, renewable energy, and science. These include scientific attractions, a mini-golf course, a fitness trail, and play areas. * Historical-Cultural Restoration: The park incorporates the Batteria Gullì, a late 19th-century Umbertine fortification, transforming it into a charming setting for cultural activities and historical explorations. * Family Friendly: It is an ideal destination for families, thanks to its large outdoor spaces, play areas, and educational workshops. Practical Aspects: * Hours and Openings: The park generally has weekend opening hours (for example, Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday), but it is always a good idea to check the official website for updated hours and prices before visiting, as they may vary seasonally. * Costs: Entrance to the park is often free, but some activities or attractions (such as minigolf or bike rental) incur an additional, usually modest, cost. * Services: There are refreshment stands (such as the Ecochiosco or L'AtTrattoria) and various services. In Summary: Ecolandia is an ambitious project that promotes sustainability in a setting of stunning landscape. If you're looking for a place where children can have fun while learning, or simply a quiet spot with a spectacular view for a picnic or a stroll, this park is a recommended stop in Reggio Calabria. It's a place that encourages reflection and interaction with the environment, with a strong connection to the history and culture of the area. My advice: Go at sunset! The view of the Strait of Messina and Sicily with the colors of the setting sun is priceless.

Known in ancient times as Rhegion, the city was one of the most important Greek cities in southern Italy, in the area called Magna Graecia. The walls were built between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC, when the city was at the height of its development and prosperity. The park presents not only the remains of these ancient walls, but also finds from different historical periods that testify to the cultural and historical importance of Reggio Calabria. Visitors can see stone fragments of walls that once served to protect the city from invasions and attacks. Over the centuries, the city has undergone many changes and part of the walls have been damaged by earthquakes and wars, but archaeological work in modern times has enabled the discovery and conservation of these monuments. The Archaeological Park of the Greek Walls is today an important reminder of the ancient history of the city and one of the key sites of Calabria's cultural heritage. 23Reggio Calabria Airport

Airport
Domestic airport
Reggio Calabria Airport is situated near the legendary Strait of Messina, where myths of sea monsters and Ulysses' ship still echo. The Calabrian side offers stunning views of rocky cliffs, crashing waves, and charming villages like Scilla and Chianalea. Known as the 'Venice of the South,' Chianalea features houses built on rocks by the water, reminiscent of Venice's canals.
Basic but functional airport, arrivals is very basic but departures is better. There is a cafe before security serving sandwiches, crisps, chocolate, drinks Inc iced coffee and smoothies. Staff friendly but English is limited, not a problem as they were still helpful. Plug sockets to charge phones too. Toilets are very clean. Security was quick, even with two flights due to depart close together. Post security there is another cafe however the Manchester flight is through border control and there are only two vending machines there, which had ran out of items. So my top tip is after security get your drinks/food from the cafe before border control. There wasn't enough seating at the Manchester flight gate so I ended up sat on the floor but tbh this doesn't bother me. So another recommendation is to go through security a little earlier to ensure you get seats. One thing I really liked is that instead of waiting in a concrete stairwell to embark on the plane, you wait outside under a nice veranda instead. Very nice as you have the warm breeze and also can view the coastline and other planes too. Please do note that in order to get to the airport either drive here, get your hotel to book a taxi for cheaper rates or take the bus. Do not use the train, after researching the train station you have to jaywalk for 10 mins narrowly avoiding traffic. And there are also renovations on the track which means there are hardly any trains there either. If you get a taxi from the rank outside, they don't speak much English so be prepared for this and have a translation app ready, they do also charge quite a lot so if you can, take the bus instead as it's only a couple of euros.
Diana — Google review
Only 1 tiny cafe in the entire place before security and a bit expensive. Another small cafe place after security, but very little options to eat on the menu. No other places to eat outside the terminal. Bus stop and taxi rank are just outside, very easy to spot them. Not many seats available and majority taken by people/locals collecting others arriving or or departing at the airport. Air con doesn’t work very well, toilets not very clean, near the cafe. Small car parking available. Car rental isn’t inside the terminal, you go outside and walk towards the roundabout and then turn right. If your flight is delayed and you have a car rental to collect it, they close at 23:00 and after that you’ll pay a “out of hours fee”. I’d advise to make a phone call and talk to them over the phone, don’t email or WhatsApp them.

Reggio Calabria Airport (REG) - “A Tragic Missed Opportunity” Overall Rating: 2/5 Stars (Due to immense potential) It is a pity and a shame that such a beautiful city as Reggio Calabria, with its rich history, incredible food scene, and stunning natural surroundings, is not having the airport it deserves. The current state of the "Aeroporto dello Stretto" is a testament to missed opportunity. The Magnificent View vs. The Mundane Facility: The contrast between the location and the building is jarring. The breathtaking view of the Strait of Messina, with Sicily and Mount Etna dominating the skyline, is one of the most magnificent sights from any airport in Italy. This natural asset alone should lead public authorities to modernize this airport and bring it to the desired level. Instead, the terminal feels dated and functional at best. Renovation is Not Reinvention: While there are indeed construction and expansion works ongoing (aimed at modernization and increasing capacity), the scope often feels insufficient. The fundamental problem is that the place should require the entire building to be scrapped totally and reinvented to match the ambition of the region it serves. A city of Reggio's stature deserves a modern, luminous, and architecturally significant gateway that can handle its growing traffic efficiently and stylishly. As it stands, the airport is merely a place of transit. It urgently needs a complete overhaul to become the classy welcoming point that this beautiful corner of Italy demands. The current approach does a disservice to the whole region.

Very early flight to London. Airport and Toilets clean but the one by gate 3 needs the lock fixed. Small cafe but adequate and nice coffee. Yes, a bit expensive but that is usually the case at airports. Security, border police 😘 and check in staff friendly.
Lynda P — Google review
The security staff were extremely rude and completely unable to understand English. The customer service was shockingly aggressive, dismissive, and unprofessional refusing to answer questions and simply repeating 'no.' This behavior is absolutely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about the standards of this airport
Ece I — Google review
It’s a very small airport. If you arrive after 22h your only option will be Taxis. The Uber app technically works but no car will come. You can order a ride but after much wait it will be cancelled and refunded. By the door the taxi will charge you about 20~30€ to Reggio city center. For travelers thinking of an overnight at the airport it’s possible but they technically close at midnight. If you’re already there inside they won’t bother you. Another option is to go to Reggio Centrale train station and do an overnight there. The station is open 24/7 and you can catch a nap at the benches and hope on the first train which comes about 5am.
Diego M — Google review
As of October 2025, still a very basic airport - once you go through security control, be prepared to sit on the ground as there's no space for at least half of the passengers. Tiny cafe is there, stuff's quite pricey (0.5l vitamin water for 4€)
Anna G — Google review
One more airport not made for 21st century, with seating for maybe 1/5 of an airplane, completely overpriced taxi rip-offs (40€ vs 1.5€ bus) and overpriced food (7€ for some chips). In combination with Ryanair it completes the discount experience and you will never come again. Rating 2/5 🤌

The Soul of Reggio - A Beautiful Walk with Epic Views. This is an absolutely amazing place for a walk along the sea. The promenade is wide and beautiful, but what makes it truly breathtaking is the stunning view of Mount Etna in the background across the strait to Sicily. The area is clearly the heartbeat of the city and is always buzzing with great energy. During our visit, it seemed like there was always something happening, from a gelato festival to live music, which added to the fantastic atmosphere. I was in stage 4 where there were three chairs in front and two in the back! How do you sell tickets knowing there's no view of the stage? I wanted to move, after the show had already begun, to an empty stage left for the authorities, a stage that remained empty of their presence but magically occupied by two boys who were certainly made to sit by complacent friends. Result... disappointment. All operas, but Aida in particular, are visual as well as acoustic spectacles and not being able to enjoy them, after having paid for the ticket, is inconceivable. Church
The Basilica of St. Anthony is a magnificent Catholic church with Byzantine-style domes and notable artworks, including relics of St. Anthony. Constructed in Gothic style shortly after the saint's death in 1232, it attracts pilgrims from around the world who come to pay homage to the revered friar. The interior is a labyrinth of chapels and corridors housing masterpieces such as Donatello's reliefs on the high altar and expressive sculptural narratives of St.
We took a day trip to Padova from Ferrara. We decided to take it easy just wander round the town looking at the architecture eating and drinking etc! The one place we did actually visit was the Basilica of St Anthony and it was stunning. It's hard to describe in words the majesty of the church. It is one of the most stunning churches I have visited. Was rather amused at them charging for the toilet! Definitely worth a visit.

No tickets required, but dress appropriately! If you have too much skin showing, they will provide covering to wear for 1 Euro. I was very impressed by that, so no one would be turned away! You can wear shorts and short sleeve shirts for comfort in the heat...just not too short. This magnificent place is a must-see!

The Basilica of St. Anthony is truly my place of strength. Every time I come here, I feel a powerful energy that surrounds and uplifts me. The atmosphere is so unique and deeply spiritual that it’s impossible to leave without feeling renewed and inspired. A must-visit for anyone who wants to experience something beyond the ordinary.
Tatiana — Google review
The exterior is a melange of architectural styles, fairly plain brickwork but with Byzantine minarets and domes reminiscent of the Hagia Sophia of Istanbul. Internally it is pure Gothic with wonderful sculptures and artwork. The scale is vast and the ceilings almost disappear into the distance, many covered by netting to catch falling debris. This is a site of pilgrimage for followers of Saint Anthony and there was a line to enter the chapels containing his relics. The lighting is very dim so the architecture is not shown to best advantage but nevertheless the effect is inspiring.

It was a great blessing and goosebumping experience to have a dharhsan at St. Antony's basilica at Padova. One could feel the positive divine vibration the moment enters into the Basilica. Indeed, we spent more time in the Basilica in prayer and meditation. St. Antony of Padova is the patron saint for lost objects. St. Antony of Padova is widely celebrated saint in South India. We had a opportunity to pray at his cemetery, tonsee his unperished tounge and jaw. His incorruptible relic is housed in this basilica.

Due to our ancestral devotion to St. Anthony, my wife and I made a point to visit Padua, and the cathedral here is truly mesmerizing. Having visited Lisbon as well, we were particularly struck by the abundance of St. Anthony’s relics housed in this beautiful church. You will find St Anthony's pillow stone, uncorrupted tongue of St Anthony, Jaw bone with teeth, vocal apparatus, skin from head, cassock, St Anthony's finger, hair. Plus relics of other saints and items from cross on which Jesus died
John C — Google review
One of the most magnificent basilicas you will ever see. Its fame rests not only on its architectural beauty but also on the spiritual aura that resides within the basilica. It houses the mortal remains of St Antony of Padua. It also has the relics of more than a dozen other saints including St Pope John Paul II. Catholics from all over the world flock to the Basilica throughout the year. One thing that catches our eyes is the altar that has all the relics.

(Translated by Google) It's certainly not a pretty sight for those arriving by train. The first thing he sees, as soon as he leaves the station, is a confusion of parking lots, abandoned archaeological excavations and if poor Garibaldi could see, he would be ashamed of the place where he was placed. The area has great potential. They had thought of making an underground car park but the archaeological finds stopped everything. I would say to forget about the underground car park, also because I'm afraid that at the first heavy rain it will become a swimming pool, and create a square similar to that of the cathedral, modern, simple, without fountains and enhancing the archaeological excavations and the statue of Garibaldi. So those arriving from the station will be amazed at what they see, but in a positive way!

I walked there all the way from Villa San Giovanni (not easy as most roads don't have sidewalks). Before getting to Borgo Croce, I went through some fascinating ghost towns. Borgo croce itself is cute and full of surprises, but I was surprised at how empty it was. I saw only one human being on the street, no shop, the only bar was closed... Grotta di Sant'Elia Speleota offers a memorable and spiritually enriching experience for visitors. The site's breathtaking beauty transcends worldly concerns, allowing visitors to connect with nature and the divine. Accessible via a simple route from the municipality of Melicucca, the site features ruins of a 10th-century Byzantine church and the well-preserved prayer cave of Saint Elias the speleot, which has become a place of worship for devotees.
Its a holy place. There was a monastery here in Byzantine times. The cave was home to miracleworking Greek-Italian Saint Elia the Cave Dweller who could command the bear, expelled demons, healed people. Saint Arsenius of Calabria, Saint Elia the Sicilian and Saint Fantinus of Calabria also lived here. All these saints are venerated in Orthodox and Catholic churches. Head of St. Elia Cave Dweller is in the old church in Melicucca at Piazza Maria. Heads of St Elia the Sicilians and St Filarete of Seminara are in the cathdral of Semimara. In Seminara there is also Orthodox Church with paintingz of all these saints. Service every Sunday at 9/10 am.

Little remains of the archaeological site. There are the ruins above of the 10th century Byzantine church. The prayer cave in which Saint Elias the speleot lived has remained in good condition and has now become a place of worship for devotees. There are clearly visible millstones and a hollow and very deep environment which was used as a deposit for foodstuffs. The only negative note, but said in a constructive way, is the concrete arch built as a structural containment work to avoid the collapse of the cave. Perhaps if it had been clad in stone it would have been visually less impactful. Recommended visit. Free access. (Original) Sito molto bello, con percorso estremamente semplice. (Translated by Google) Access and parking are free. The visit can last about 50 minutes, but it will depend on how much you want to explore. At the beginning of the summer season, the main paths were easily accessible, while long pants were recommended for the secondary ones due to the vegetation. A short distance from each other and separated by about 20 minutes by car are two ghost towns. The causes of the abandonment of Bruzzano Zeffirio and Brancaleone Vetus are the same: earthquakes, and the two reviews will be almost identical. It is believed that Bruzzano was founded by the Greeks around the 7th or 8th century BC. The castle "Rocca Armenia" was built on a sandstone monolith by the Saracens, who conquered the town in the 10th century. The Carafa princes are credited with the construction of the monumental arch that served as the gateway to the village in the 17th century. In 1783, a long seismic sequence occurred, with five major earthquakes that also caused tsunamis. Two had a magnitude greater than 7.0 on the Richter scale and had epicenters throughout southern Calabria. The last one originated from the seismic fault that runs halfway across the Strait of Messina, where the ground between the two sides is shifting laterally and vertically. Despite the damage, the village continued to function by rebuilding or repairing its buildings. In 1905, another earthquake greater than 7.0 magnitude struck, with its epicenter on the Tyrrhenian coast. In 1908, a terrible earthquake generated by the fault beneath the Strait, accompanied by a tsunami, killed half the inhabitants of Messina and a third of those of Reggio Calabria. Repairs to the damage were abandoned, and the inhabitants abandoned the village permanently, moving to the new town nearby.

(Translated by Google) Old Bruzzano is a small ghost town in the Calabrian hinterland (not very far from the sea, anyway). It's very beautiful. There is a small amphitheater in the classic Roman style around which there are several houses now destroyed by time. On one side there is an arch near a house, perhaps a stately home. While on a promontory on the other side there is a series of ruins, I believe from the lords of the time as it is located in the upper part of the town. It's very explorable and most of the buildings can be reached without any problems. For those who come to these parts, it is worth a visit (Original) Bruzzano vecchio è un piccolo paesino fantasma nell'entroterra calabrese (non molto distante dal mare, comunque).

(Translated by Google) A delightful place managed by an association that allows free access to the beach by providing some services free of charge. Umbrellas can be rented at popular prices. The restaurant menu is excellent. Perhaps we need to explain better how it works with a poster placed at the entrance.

(Translated by Google) If you want a peaceful beach to spend with your family, it's fine. Personally, I'd use loungers, not chairs. The staff is friendly, the sea is clear, and it's a bit cold.

(Translated by Google) This statue is a powerful symbol of victory and pride for Calabria. It depicts a woman with a raised sword and a laurel wreath, reflecting strength, courage and freedom. It was erected after the First World War as a tribute to those who fought and gave their lives for their country. Situated in a prominent place in the city, the statue dominates the surroundings and conveys a sense of dignity and remembrance. Standing beneath it, I feel it carries the weight of history, but also hope for the future. The figure’s clean lines and powerful stance reflect determination, and the monumentality of the statue itself is breathtaking. For me, the Statua della Vittoria is not just a work of art – it is a silent reminder of the courage and resistance of the people of Reggio Calabria. Čiste linije i moćan stav figure odražavaju odlučnost, a monumentalnost same statue ostavlja bez daha.
