Cremeria Sottozero is a long-standing restaurant managed by Vincenzo Pennestri, offering quality local ingredients and a seasonal fruit-based menu. The establishment boasts a seafront dehors with over 50 years of history.
One of the best gelato I've ever tasted. Can highly recommend the hazelnut, coffee and pistachio flavours. You can have cream at no extra cost. A "small" is €3.20 I think hut you can have two different flavours and it's a generous portion. They also have many delicious looking cakes and pastries.

Based on my experience they speak 0 English, but I would still recommend for tourists (even vegans), because you can just use your pretty finger to point, and they have a LOT of ice cream flavors and other sweets.
The quality and taste was excellent the two times I tried. 👌 For vegans I especially recommend the chocolate and the lemon pistachio ice cream, but they have other vegan flavors too. Also you can ask for a paper cup if you're worried about the cone ingredients.
It's a nice and uncomplicated place: you walk in, and two minutes later you walk out with your nice dessert, and you can sit down on the beach front to eat it - there are even some shaded spots too with bench.

Everytime we visit Reggio we have gelati at sottozero. It is by far the best in Italy. The service is impeccable and the cakes and gelati are what dreams are made of. This visit I wanted to show my brother and sister inlaw just exactly why I love this place this so much. We had the cafe crema and it did not disappoint. The staff were so lovely making it a most memorable experience. We make the trip to Reggio once a year from Australia, and our summer holiday would not be complete without visiting Sottozero, highly recommend.

I recently took a trip to Reggio Calabria, where my dear friend Martina recommended that I try "Gellateria Cesaro." As always, I value her advice. While searching for the gelateria, I noticed the Cesare building, which looked quite different to me, and there was a long queue of people waiting outside.
One downside was the number of beggars who kept approaching for a euro or less. However, the staff were very polite and helpful. The variety of ice cream flavors was impressive, making it understandable if someone feels unsure about their choice. I ended up choosing pistachio, biscuits, and chocolate, and the pistachio was definitely the highlight!
Overall, disappointing …. Decent gelato, but not worth the hype.

I visited this place on June 2024 and I was pleasantly surprised by the ice-cream and sandwiches. I wandered around the city center and I've found this place after I ate dinner in one of the restaurant close to the sea. I have three s cope of ice cream and tasted in Gelateria in Riggio Calabria I think this place is the best for ice cream they have also best selection of sweets ice cream cakes. I wanted to try all of them but I've had limited sugar intake so i only had ice cream and was delicious.
One of the best gelato ever! The location and the panorama are STUNNING. The service is quite fast and it's not as crowded as the other ones near by, it closes really late, @ 4, so you'll never run out of food here!

I had a great experience first time, but when I returned three more times it got worse, and overall it's just mid.
Last time I had a smoothie and a pasta dish, and it felt like a waste of money. The smoothies are super low effort and unattractive; it's just a regular small glass filled with the liquid. Maybe it would worth 2 euros top. I regret not taking a picture of their ugly smoothie in a glass, would have been great to upload here to shame them, haha. And the pasta meal was more oily and salty than anything else, plus the portion was small for the price, and also just generally for a meal for an adult person. When I got back to my accommodation I ate a whole grain cracker with a glass of soy milk, and it felt better than the meal I got at the restaurant.
Based on my limited experience this place is 'okay' for a coffee and a slice of cake or a bagel sandwich, but probably go somewhere else for a good meal?
I wouldn't recommend it for anything more especially for vegans, as they have a few vegan options, but usually they just leave stuff out (like with the pasta dish) and you find yourself starving for e.g. protein. Also, the first time I got a very nice cappuccino with soy milk but when I asked the second time they didn't have plant milk.
You should also know that their kitchen is closed from like 14 to 19, so you can't order meals, only cake and coffee. And there is 1.5 eur service fee, even if you only order coffee.
One waiter, a young girl, was kind and attentive, but I got the subjective impression that the rest wish you went somewhere else with your English or with your questions. And last time the same waiter returned to me to ask if I'm "ready to order", again in Italian like we never talked before, when I already ordered half an hour ago (when the kitchen wasn't open yet but I decided to wait) - I think this shows really well how much you matter here for the staff.
