The Roman Temple of Évora, located in the Conde Vila Flor square, is a remarkable ancient ruin built in the 1st century A.D. Initially dedicated to Emperor Augustus, it features impressive Corinthian pillars and stands as a symbol of Roman worship. Over the centuries, it served various purposes including as a mosque during the Moorish period and later as a market and slaughterhouse.
Free entry visit, it is actually located in the middle of a small square behind the famous Cathedral. No need to wait for taking a picture, no need to buy a ticket. There’s also viewpoint pretty closeby , so you can see Alentejo landscape.

A Remarkable Surprise in the Heart of Évora Our visit to the Roman Temple of Évora turned out to be one of the unexpected highlights of our trip. After exploring the site, we sat just south of the temple at a small nearby bar, enjoying a cold beer and a glass of wine in the sunshine a perfect setting to take in the view. The temple itself, with its beautiful surroundings and remarkably well-preserved columns, carries an incredible story. It’s hard to believe it’s still standing after centuries of history and change. The fact that it’s completely free to visit made it feel like even more of a hidden gem. Honestly, it felt like a bit of good luck that we stumbled upon such a special place in such a relaxed and charming way. Absolutely worth a visit if you find yourself in Évora you won’t be disappointed.
Duncan A — Google review
A stunning and beautiful piece of history, this is one of the iconic sites that can be found within the city and is one that you need to visit when here. It is really impressive and great to walk around and appreciate.
Matt H — Google review
Beautiful and historic place in the heart of Évora! The Roman Temple — often called the Temple of Diana — is almost 2000 years old and one of the best-preserved ancient monuments in Portugal. Great spot for photos, especially at sunset! You can really feel the history here. Highly recommend visiting
Nissanka R — Google review
Probably my favourite place to visit in Evora. Iconic stop. Ancient Corinthian columns from the 1st century, right in the historic centre, free to see any time. You must visit it while in Evora
Ryan T — Google review
Had more fun driving in the tiny streets of Évora! Temple is great. Easily accessible and free to view/walk up to. No tickets needed - only if you want to go inside the church, and that’s up to you. Awesome to see something like this well preserved and still standing.
James A — Google review
This seemed a little out of place walking through town to stumble across, but it was magnificent to see. We were fortunate enough to walk by at night with it all illuminated, very impressive! These are the interesting things you can find when travelling through old towns in Europe, makes it very unique.

Cathedral
Catholic church
The Cathedral of Évora, completed in 1746, is a prominent Roman Catholic cathedral offering scenic city views from its tower. It is one of the most significant cathedrals in Portugal and sits on the highest point of the city, making it a prominent feature of the cityscape.
The cathedral, museum, and the tower were all absolutely stunning!! If you’re student, there’s also a discount, not so big a difference, yet still better than nothing. The staff to give the tickets was super friendly and warm, I really appreciated their welcoming hospitality. For 4 euros, the view is so worth it. If you’re planning to visit Evora, you shouldn’t miss this Cathedral for sure!
Ekin — Google review
Everything about this cathedral exceeded my expectations. The striking architecture, remarkable history, and breathtaking views from the rooftop made the visit unforgettable. Climbing up is well worth it, the panorama over Évora is magnificent. A must-see when exploring the city.
Carlo D — Google review
A stunning piece of architecture and one of the highlights of my trip. This is a beautiful site that is well worth visiting and the opportunity to climb to the roof provides breathtaking views of the city. There is a small museum included in your entry ticket and this is a fantastic site that you can spend lots of time at and not get bored.
Matt H — Google review
If you visit the town of Era, Portugal, I recommend you visit the cathedral there for several reasons. First of all, we have seen many, many cathedrals in our travels, but this one is special. To be honest, my favorite part was walking around the roof of the cathedral, a unique experience! And of course, the altar and nave were beautiful, as you can see in the photos. Also amazing is that construction was started in the year 1280, still standing and in good condition.
Mary T — Google review
Évora is a stunning town, and at its heart stands the magnificent Cathedral of Évora, perched on a hilltop like a crown jewel. The town itself feels like stepping back in time narrow cobbled streets, ancient walls, and a peaceful, almost magical medieval atmosphere that wraps around you the moment you arrive. The cathedral is an awe-inspiring structure, both inside and out. Its Gothic architecture is beautifully preserved, and climbing to the roof rewards you with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. From every angle, it’s easy to see how this cathedral became the focal point of such a historic town. It’s hard not to like all of it. The quiet charm, the rich history, and the way everything centers so naturally around the cathedral make Évora an unforgettable place to visit. Highly recommended for lovers of history, architecture, or anyone looking for a peaceful escape into Portugal’s past.
Duncan A — Google review
The cathedral offers stunning vistas of Evora and the plains of the Alentejo. The best views are on the rooftop accesible via the towers. We recommend visiting in the late afternoon (4PM or later) This way you can catch the golden hues of sun entering the cathedral and shining upon the high choir. Please honor the reverence of this space with silence. Photography allowed in all area except the treasure room with sacred relics.
Lauren P — Google review
Stunning cathedral with amazing views from the rooftop! Évora Cathedral is one of the most impressive monuments in the city — a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles. Climb to the top for a beautiful panoramic view of Évora and the Alentejo region. Peaceful, historic, and absolutely worth a visit!

The University of Évora, established in 1559, is one of Portugal's oldest educational institutions. Initially managed by the Society of Jesus, it was later repurposed as the National High School of Évora until its reinstatement as a university in 1979. Situated in Évora, Portugal, the university boasts a historic campus with Renaissance architecture and the renowned Cloister of Espirito Santo.
This is the second oldest University in Portugal. Founded by the Jesuits it is steeped in History and it still is going today. The class rooms are covered in beautiful tiles depicting the most varied science, literary and social themes. The layout is also beautiful, it has an immense atrium and it is laid out across several levels.
Hugo P — Google review
This is a must visit in Évora. Can be easily missed but it is totally worth it. The old areas, rooms, corridors and the intersecting history are amazing. It is a hidden gem and I strongly recommend having a guide to get the most of your visit. Allow at least 30 mins to explore.
Trachemysta — Google review
If it were just another palace or convent I would rate it a 4 star but being an university it's a 5 star in tradition, atmosphere and magnificent panels of storied tiles, as they are called (depicting scenes of common or historical events). The main yard is outstanding.
Jorge B — Google review
The azulejos tiles are spectacular. The whole place is a work of art. It's definitely worth the small price of admission. Make sure to allow enough time to absorb it all before they close at 5:00 p.m.
Thomas M — Google review
Nice and traditional buildings. The tiles are beautiful and found almost everywhere.
Gerardo G — Google review
We were scammed, had to pay 3 euros per person to enter the building, and then it turned out all the classrooms were occupied by courses or exams, so we couldn't see anything... Felt awkward walking around, as if we were not supposed to be there. No guidance at all.

i am a student who wants to visit the university and I was being asked for 3 euros and the person was laughing at me with her colleagues when I was still in front of the door Isn’t it stupid ? And unfriendly!

The Chapel of Bones in Évora is a small 16th-century chapel adorned with the bones and skulls of monks, creating a haunting yet thought-provoking atmosphere. Located near Giraldo Square, it stands next to the famous Igreja de San Francisco cathedral. The chapel's walls are decorated with motifs created from the remains of 5,000 individuals collected from overcrowded cemeteries at the time.
Amazing place. The only way to describe it in my opinion is where death meets art. I was surprised the energy was so great in here and I loved the energy in this place. There is a museum attached and a view points as well which are part of your ticket. 3 floors in total to check out. In my mind priced very cheap for just the chapel of bones by itself. This is worth a trip to Évora from Lisbon alone.
Luke L — Google review
A fascinating and eerie place in the heart of Évora! The Chapel of Bones is covered with thousands of real human bones and skulls — built by monks in the 16th century to remind people that life is short. It’s both spooky and beautiful at the same time. Definitely a must-see when visiting
Nissanka R — Google review
The chapel lined with bones is a truly unique experience that makes you reflect on the transience of everything. So many lives lived, so many stories that will never be told... The nativity museum is really interesting too, especially seeing how it was interpreted by different cultures. Would definitely recommend a visit!
Aleja R — Google review
I think it's a bit expensive for what it is. It's small, but really a unique chapel. The chapel is super crowded. Wasn't really interested in the Nativity Scene museum; the Chapel is what's up. I had Black Sabbath playing in my ear buds which was perfect so if you're a fan of metal or goth, this is for you.
Scott C — Google review
Very interesting ossuary. I paid in cash based on what is in other reviews to avoid frustration. 6 euro entry seemed a little much considering how small it is, but it's a tourist attraction so. The use of the bones is very interesting and used in nice patterns.
Toni S — Google review
Small chapel with all the walls covered with human bones, skulls and different parts. There is also a mummy. There is also a small part upstairs with a balcony for some views. While it is indeed impressive and something unique, in my opinion it is overpriced (6€ for 20-min visit) for the tiny room where the bones are. Everything else just feels like a filler.
Trachemysta — Google review
Spooky? It’s a place to visit, if you’re in town. The history behind and its fast visit not boring, and you can see also Nativity scenes from all around the world showcasing different art styles which were lovely to see.
David M — Google review
This is a great place to see. It's not very big. Maybe take a few minutes there but you can stay as long as you want. Along with visiting the chapel, there is also 2 floor level to visit including a balcony that you can look out on the small square center. If you park in the square, parking fee is required with a max of 4 hrs. If you park outside the square, no fee for parking. After visiting the chapel, the church is connected right beside it. You can visit, no cost. Not much in Evora to do, however you can make it a day trip just by walking around and exploring. Lots of unique streets to explore. Restaurants are great and lots of places to buy souvenirs

Fountain
Giraldo Square Fountain is located in the central district and faces the basilica of St. Andrew. It was named after Giraldo the Fearless, who defeated the Moors in 1165 and became the governor of Evora. The square used to be a Roman market and was later renamed in his honor. The fountain originally sourced water from an aqueduct for public use in ancient times.
The famous square in Evora . The fountain is so beautiful and in full working order . It was built in 1570 . It has 8 spouts representing the 8 roads leading out of the square! A beautiful spot with no tickets needed and no waits to see it .
Yvonne G — Google review
A cute small square in Evora. It felt like the main square in town. Many places to eat or drink something. I would recommend to drink around the Square, yet pricing of the restaurants nearby did not seem fair, honestly. You can enjoy the square, visit the church, and continue your way to the famous Cathedral.
Ekin — Google review
We stopped by Praça do Giraldo in Évora on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The square was bathed in full sunshine, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made us want to linger. Tables and chairs were scattered around the square, so we grabbed a small drink and just sat back to take it all in the historic surroundings, the gentle buzz of people passing through, and the elegant Geraldo Fountain right at the center. It’s a great place to pause and enjoy the rhythm of the town. Highly recommended for a leisurely stop, whether you’re sightseeing or just looking to soak up the local atmosphere in a beautiful setting. A lovely moment in Évora.
Duncan A — Google review
A nice fountain in a lively square, the fountain does not always have water in it but it is still a nice site to see when in the area.

Located just west of Evora near Guadalupe, the Almendres Cromlech, also known as Cromleque dos Almendres, is a Neolithic-era monument dating back over 6,000 years. It is the largest megalithic site on the Iberian Peninsula and predates Stonehenge in England.
Great place to visit, educational posts available along the road near the village. A great hike through cork oak forest is a part of unique experience way in and out of the significant prehistoric sites. Go there in the early morning or before sunset to have cool photos and cool weather
L. S — Google review
Loved it here. It was definitely worth the drive on the rough road to get here. Loved the energy. Such a cool space that many wouldn’t enjoy but big energy space and a lot of history.
Luke L — Google review
We visited this site: the walk is quite long since it’s best to leave the car at a distance. The road to get there is in very poor condition, so you really need to drive slowly to avoid damaging the car. The archaeological site itself is nice – there’s nothing around it, but it’s still an interesting place to visit.
Alessia L — Google review
From the top car park its only a short walk. A much much longer walk from the other lay by area. Easy to misunderstand which one your going to look at due to the poor information. The stones themselves definitely need more information to tell the story behind it. The road up on small dirt bikes was excellent fun but cars need to take it steady.
Michael G — Google review
Great piece of history! The drive is tricky though. You will need a decent car there are a lot of potholes! Worth the visit though!
A V — Google review
Stones from 5,000 B.C. It's a climb up a very narrow bumpy road from the interpretive center, biking it was probably easier than driving. The stones are amazing and there are views across the plains all the way to Evora in the distance.
Tim D — Google review
You can access to this mystic place by car , of course the road is not a good one but with cautious driving you will get there. I call it a Portuguese Stonehenge , I believe it is worth a visit . There’s free parking lot and lots of cork fields .
Niloofar B — Google review
Road washed out, so is closed off further back from the usual car park. The extra walk thru cork forests into the stones puts you in the right frame of mind though. Beautiful site. So many stones. Worth the walk and rough dirt road.

The Agua de Prata Aqueduct, also known as the Evora aqueduct, is a stunning stone structure designed by Francisco de Arruda in the 1530s. Extending for nearly 9 kilometers through various parts of the city's historic center, this well-preserved water canal offers a picturesque path alongside it. The aqueduct showcases an elegant blend of old and new, with its rough stone construction seamlessly integrated into the modern town.
Visited August 2024 Always interesting to see the Aqueducts through out Europe...they are a testament to the engineering strength of those who came before us! Massive structures requiring massive energy to put in place. Always Impressive
Kirk B — Google review
It was okay. Nice to see it and walk in to main area. See houses and street built in between. Arch gets smarter n smarter as u go up n up
Orlando M — Google review
During a quick evening walk, we stopped by the Água de Prata Aqueduct, and it was truly an impressive sight. Unlike many famous aqueducts, this one wasn’t built by the Romans but dates back to medieval times around the 1530’s if I’m not mistaken. It’s a remarkable piece of engineering that still stands proudly, stretching across the landscape with a quiet elegance. While it doesn’t appear to be lit up at night (which is a bit of a shame), it’s absolutely worth walking past, especially to appreciate its scale and historical significance. Even with just a short visit, it left a strong impression simple, grand, and a wonderful reminder of human ingenuity.
Duncan A — Google review
Fine looking aqueduct nothing really special compared to other examples through Europe. More impressive things to see in the town but it is a quick stop right outside the walls and you probably have to drive under it anyway to get to the rest of town. The way houses built into the arches inside the wall is a little cool
Pratul M — Google review
It is a really old aqueduct, built back in the 16th century, over 480 years ago! The aqueduct brought water to the city from springs about 18 kilometers away. Part of this structure runs underground, and part is visible as large stone arches, between which houses and shops were later built. This place is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it is one of the most famous attractions in Évora. If you come to Portugal, you should definitely visit this amazing historical place! 💧🇵🇹
Nissanka R — Google review
This is a very cool structure running through the town. It's hundreds of years old and as it runs right through the centre of town, it has been incorporated into many of the houses and shops, rather than it being torn down. Definitely an amazing site to take in as you explore the town.

These aqueducts are an iconic piece of history and scenery for Evora and they are a fantastic site to visit. They provide a stunning piece of history and photographic opportunities.

Igreja de São João Evangelista, also known as Igreja dos Lóios, is a remarkable monument characterized by the Manueline style. It is part of the Os Loios Convent and stands as an impressive old church in Evora.
Understated on the outside a small fee lets you into a really lovely tiled space in the Evora old town. It's just delightful.
Steve W — Google review
I tried to go inside to pray and the young guy told me that I need to pay to go inside, it’s a “private” church.” We need to pay just to pray in a house of the God?? His attitude seems very childish and unprofessional. To pray, asking people to pay?? That’s absurd and he was very rude and unfriendly.

The Jardim Público de Évora, also known as the Public Gardens, is a spacious green area located in the heart of Evora Old Town. It's conveniently close to several attractions such as the central market, Igreja de Sao Francisco, and Chapel of Bones. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll through the gardens or find a peaceful spot for a picnic with local delicacies like bread, cheese, and chourico sausage.
Wonderful pathways and varied vegetation. There is also a XVth century palace in the grounds surrounded by some XIXth century folly-like "Gothic" ruins. Peacocks wander freely. You can get coffee, cakes, sandwiches and ice cream. Just lovely.

Igreja e Mosteiro de São Francisco is a Gothic cathedral in Evora, built in honor of St. Francis during the reign of Manuel I. Adjacent to the cathedral is the famous Chapel of Bones, constructed from human skulls and bones collected from overcrowded cemeteries. The chapel's walls are adorned with motifs and its white brick ceiling features death-themed frescoes.
Beautiful church in Evora. Highly recommend visiting. The history is amazing. Worth using a guide to learn more as you visit. Free to enter.

This beautiful small church is attached to the chapel of bones. The outside the beautiful and so is the inside. It's a great stop as your're exploring the surrounding area and the best part is, it's free. It's not very busy and depending on when you get there, you could be the only one in the church

A church with a stunning indoor design!! The azulejos on the walls, the black and white stones through the roof, and the characteristic structure of the roof lines. It was totally worthy to visit and no entrance fee was needed. Unlike some churches in Evora, it was open on Sunday. I definitely recommend to visit.

A really nice church with some stunning details inside. This is a nice spot to visit when in the area.

This is a beautiful church, with lots to see. Perhaps most well known is the Chapel of Bones, but ironically, it was the place where my family and I spent the least amount of time. It's fascinating, but only a single room. So in some ways, it was a bit disappointing. However, upstairs there is a huge collection of nativity scenes from all around the world. There are hundreds of them, and it was absolutely amazing to see the different styles and interpretations of nativity scenes from different cultures. I eventually got tired, but my daughter would have easily spent hours looking at them all. I had to shuffle her along. There is also a very small museum with paintings and other artifacts to view. This is a great place to spend an afternoon. I came wanting to see the Chapel of Bones, not knowing any of the other things that were here, but I enjoyed everything else immensely. The church itself is free to visit, while entering the Chapel of Bones requires the purchase of a ticket, which also includes seeing the nativity scenes and the museum. It's very reasonably priced and well worth it.

Nestled in the vibrant Praca do Giraldo, Santo Antão Church is a must-see gem during your visit to Évora. This charming Renaissance church, with its striking white façade, stands proudly at the northern end of the square. As you approach, you'll be greeted by a stunning marble fountain crafted from a single piece of stone—a true testament to artistry. Inside, the church reveals its splendor with beautifully decorated chapels adorned with exquisite tiles that reflect local craftsmanship.
Absolutely beautiful on the inside, with a mix of renaissance, baroque and Portuguese particular styles. Must visit
Marianne T — Google review
It is a very beautiful church and located in the main square of the town. Yet, if you would like to go in just to visit and take some pictures, you need to be more mindful about the visiting hours. On Sundays, it is either celebration inside or the church is closed for a few hours. Due to the timing, I couldn’t take so much picture of the inside even though I went through.

Multi language of description- really helps tourists to learn the rich culture behind the art. I hope every church follows Santo Antao Church’s lead.
Silvia X — Google review
The Church of Santo Antão or Igreja Paroquial de Santo Antão is located in the famous Praça do Giraldo. This is undoubtedly another of the city's many magnificent religious monuments. And one of the most visited by tourists in Évora. The commissioner of the Church of Santo Antão was Cardinal D. Henrique, Archbishop of Évora. He ordered it to be built on the site of the medieval Chapel of Santo Antoninho. To enable its construction, the Roman Triumphal Arch was demolished. Its construction dates back to the beginning of 1557. It is an example of the late Renaissance period and has the characteristics of the so-called hall churches of the time. Its interior is a single hall. The Church of Santo Antão suffered some setbacks early on. It was shaken by a strong earthquake in 1568, which led to work being carried out in 1570 to consolidate the columns and vaults. The interior of the Church of Santo Antão consists of three vaulted naves with granite columns, five sections and three chapels behind the high altar. The five sections of the naves are marked by impressive Ionic columns, which give the whole space great grandeur.
Artur V — Google review
Unfortunately, I had a very unpleasant experience at the Church of Santo Antão. The staff (or clergy) were extremely rude, which completely overshadowed the visit. No matter how beautiful the place is, kindness and respect matter, especially in a religious setting. I would not return and do not recommend it.

When visiting Evora, a city rich in history and architectural wonders, one must explore the charming Praca do Giraldo at its center. The well-maintained historic streets lead to various attractions such as the Castelo Velho, Cathedral, University of Evora, Aqueduct of Agua de Prata, Roman Baths, Chapel of Bones and more. Among these landmarks stands out the unique Renaissance-style Graça Church with its striking granite structure adorned with four colossal figures supporting globes.
Very beautiful church! Yet I was able to see only the exterior design. Went to Evora to visit on Sunday and unfortunately this church was closed that day.

Matt H — Google review
Very interesting external facade with unique statues and bell tower. Although the interior is very bland.
Nuno C — Google review
The Igreja da Graça in Évora is truly unique for its striking and highly influential Mannerist facade, considered one of the earliest and most significant examples of this architectural style in Portugal. Its most distinctive elements are the four large, robust "Atlantes" or "Giants" supporting the upper corners of the main facade, giving the church a monumental and slightly idiosyncratic appearance that sets it apart from other churches of its time. This architectural boldness and decorative originality reflect the new artistic currents of the 16th century. Furthermore, its connection to the Augustinian order and its history as a former convent add another layer to its historical significance. The blend of classical elements with an inventive, almost playful, approach to scale and form makes the Igreja da Graça an unforgettable and crucial landmark in the study of Portuguese Renaissance and Mannerist architecture

Casa do Montado - Evora Cork Museum offers a multisensorial experience where visitors can explore the vineyards, winery, and wines produced in the land dedicated to Bacchus. The museum provides an interesting and educational look into the production of cork, offering detailed explanations on geology, trees, and cork production. It is well-organized with plenty of opportunities for exploration and also features locally produced gifts for purchase.
This is an amazing little museum and learning experience about the history and current practice of Cork production. I was delighted to be able to arrange a time for a personal tour in the off season (Feb). As a first time visitor to Portugal, I was interested in how it all works and the displays are very well done (bilingual Portuguese/English). The collection of historical photos and traditional tools provides a great basis for the museum with additional samples of Cork at every level of harvesting and production. I loved the traditional beehives that were once made. Adding in beautiful drawings of the birds and animals in the area and describing the whole ecosphere around a Cork forest was very well presented. There is a good hands on area that children might enjoy. There are plans for continuing improvements and some multi-media additions..obviously a labour of love for these women!

Evora’s best kept secret ! We had a fantastic tour at the cork interpretation center. It is a self guided tour but Mariana was very kind to answer all our questions and she provided great explanations of the cork harvesting methods. We really recommend the tour. You have your 8 euros money’s worth. The place is not easy to find , look for a flag with a bird on the small street.

The Cork Museum in Évora absolutely blew me away! I went in expecting something interesting, but what I experienced was far beyond that—it was fascinating, beautiful, and completely unique. This museum takes something as humble as cork and transforms it into a story of history, culture, art, and innovation. The exhibits are brilliantly curated, showing not only the traditional uses of cork in Portugal but also the incredible ways it has shaped communities and industries. I learned so much—yet it never felt like a lecture, it was engaging and inspiring at every turn. Mariana was extremely warm and welcoming, and clearly passionate about sharing the importance of cork. Her knowledge brought the displays to life and made the experience truly personal. The craftsmanship, creativity, and cultural pride on display here is breathtaking. This is not just a museum—it’s an experience that left me with a deep appreciation for Portugal’s heritage and ingenuity. If you are in Évora, do not miss this hidden treasure. It’s easily one of the most memorable and meaningful museums I have ever visited anywhere in the world. A perfect 5/5. I’d give it more stars if I could!

Beautiful little museum showcasing the Montado, which is the name for the geography all around Evora, dominated by low grasses for grazing and the various oak trees that give acorns and cork. The museum explains how cork is gathered, the history, and all of the properties and uses for it. It's a must-see place that puts into perspective the life and economy of the Alentejo region. In the offseason, just send an email to set up an appointment!

We loved visiting Casa do Mondado. It was one of the highlights of our 4 days in Evora. This is a private museum run by two wonderful and inspiring ladies. I learned so much! You need to book your visit in low season. I’m very grateful to have seen and learned so much about Cork and the environment.
Dilma M — Google review
What a fascinating little museum explaining cork production and the Montado lands, flora and fauna, and ecosystem that have supported it for millennia. An array of traditional farming implements, tools, photographs and oddities help to depict the workers’ lifestyles, and there are really good descriptions in English as well as Portuguese. I learned so much about the Alentejo way of life—and also what a magical material cork is and how threatened by climate change. Mariana was a great source of information. Don’t miss this vital stop on your visit to Évora!

Visitors can explore hundreds of meticulously collected items that tell the story of horology through the ages. The museum's rich history is complemented by its knowledgeable staff, who are eager to share insights about each piece in their collection.
Small museum but a trove of interesting watches that capture the times. The lady who worked there was very knowledgeable and friendly, watch-making is in her family. Not only did she explain the mechanics of the clocks and watches very well, but also had trivia for us on the social conventions about clocks and watches. Highly recommend asking the questions you've always had about timekeeping but didn't know who to ask :) We also saw locals come in to get their watch repaired. Very well preserved medieval castle and walls, with a nice view of Vila Viçosa. Inside the walls you'll find nice green area to walk, old cemetery and church, a castle open for visiting. Here was the home of one of the most influential portuguese families. Definitely worth a visit a visit if you're in the region.

Interesting museum with friendly helpful staff. Ancient roman artifacts are very good but sometimes displayed rather dimly. The hunting weapons collection is superb but not to everyone's taste. The trophy displays not only include some mind-numbling examples of the worst form of the art; but also prove the damage that can be caused by over privileged royal families can do when let loose on African wildlife. If you're in the area well worth the entry fee not just for the collections on display, the excellent view from the ramparts but the fact that in 35 degrees it's deliciously cool within its heavy stone walls ;)

Museum Frei Manuel do Cenáculo in Evora is a charming and compact museum that offers a diverse collection spanning different eras. Named after an 18th-century monk and archaeologist who later became the archbishop of Evora, the museum showcases a wide array of artifacts, from ancient Roman relics to fine paintings from the 1900s.
Really great museum with a variety of works of art. Along with the paintings and sculptures there is also a good collection of early Christian and Roman artifacts. Very near the Roman Temple of Diana. With the new government initiative Portuguese and foreign people who have a tax number (NIF) and live in Portugal can now visit 37 museums, monuments and palaces free of charge, 52 days a year and on any day of the week.

To find a gem such as this museum, located in a small city in the interior of Portugal speaks volumes about what the Portuguese people value. You MUST come. Artifact dating back to 4,000 years before Christ, in pristine condition. Paintings from the Flemish and Dutch schools of art. Artifacts from the Roman occupation. There are Roman ruins outside the museum. If you have a NIF number, the entrance fee is waived. But at 10€, it’s a bargain at half the price.
Buck N — Google review
A small museum that houses one of the greatest works of western art. I had the unique privilege to enjoy the great polyptych in complete silence for a good half hour. The rest of the artworks are interesting especially in presenting the Flemish influence on Portuguese art.

Built in 1915, it is one of the most important museums in Portugal with more than 20 thousand objects including paintings, archeological artifacts, tiles, and tombstones of medieval times, etc. It is located in the vicinity of the Roman Temple and the Cathedral and a must-visit in Évora. The most famous collection is the 13 piece panel that shows *the Life of the Virgin* by an unknown artist in the 14th century. A highly recommended museum with a small entrance fee of around 3 €

During high season, it is open from Tuesday to Sunday with varying hours. In low season, the museum operates with slightly reduced hours.

Very beautifully theatre, but the cabins near the stage are almost useless, they can hold 4 people but only onenor two can see a decent show. Also the staff could be a little bit more sympathetic, my group of 6 people arrived a few minutes late to the concert and it had already began, we had tickets for the main seating area but the lady splitted the group and took us to a cabin with a very bad view, and the lady was really upset with us. From the cabin we could see our original seats unoccupied.

A beautiful theatre, but when we visited, the staff were rude and useless! we had bouthg online tickets, and they said there was no such thing! it took an hour to sort this she then procedded to send everyone, to their seats, with NO order, so even if you had a numbered seat you didnt get it, consequesntly all seating was a huge confused mess and noone sat in their designated seats! All of this confusion delayed the Opera! The staff need better training, or at least some sort of training and a course in how to be polite wouldnt go amiss either!

Nestled in the serene landscape, the Convent of St. Helena of the Mount Calvary, originally founded in 1570 by Infanta D. This convent once provided shelter for nuns living in austere conditions and features notable elements like the "Hunger Bell," which was rung during times of hardship.
(Translated by Google) The Convent of Monte Calvário, founded in 1570 by Infanta D. Maria of Portugal, was part of the Order of Saint Clare and housed nuns in conditions of extreme poverty. The "Hunger Bell" stands out, and was rung in difficult times. The original structure remains, with a church with simple lines, a two-story cloister and a refectory with mannerist paintings. The convent closed in 1889 due to the Decree of the Extinction of Monastic Orders, becoming state property. It later served as a nursing home and closed in 2007. It currently houses archdiocesan services related to Christian movements and scouts. The Centro Histórico de Évora is a delightful and well-preserved little city with a quiet and distinctive atmosphere. Wow, what a place full of history. Honest you can just get lost in this place with all the beautiful colors of merchandise in the streets with wonderful little stores to buy gifts and to find hole in the wall places to eat. I highly recommend going to the top of the cathedral of Evora, what a beautiful view.

Evora desperately needs to be the European city of culture 2027 in order to get a facelift (but does it deserve it?) I have just spent a few days in Evora with a local friend, not having visited since 2008. I regularly visited around 2000. Although it was wonderful to revisit buildings and streets that hold such good memories it was very disappointing to see so much neglect - everywhere! Day after day. Unpainted buildings, endless piles of rubbish almost everywhere, potholes, unswept streets, pavements and roundabouts full of weeds. I am a tourism consultant, British resident in Uganda East Africa. I travel widely and I'm used to varying standards of order, cleanliness and city administration. I am shocked at how Evora's standards have deteriorated, across the city. This splendid historic city needs rescuing!

One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in Portugal. The waiter/owner of the restaurant was really rude, it took a lot of time for us to have the menu, to make an order and finally receive the food at the table. Don’t get close to this place if you wanna be well treated and taste good typical food.

I certainly don't get bad reviews here. We found the staff helpful fast and courteous. The food was good. Having appetizers just put on the table to have (and pay for) is different. I get this can be an off putting practice...specially for less seasoned travelers. If you don't want it...tell them to take it away....otherwise enjoy it and be prepared to pay for it. Just here for a few days... while this place isn't calling me back...im very glad I went.

Delicious food! The portions were very generous and the food very well prepared. We had “choco frito”, “bacalhau a casa” and a lovely tuna salad with lots of ingredients. Our 5 yr old son loved the bacalhau (cod) and ate so well here. The waiters were lovely and spoke very politely to us in Spanish (our family language) as our Portuguese is not great. The prices are very reasonable and I would recommend the location too for the nice atmosphere in summer on their terrace.
Trisha H — Google review
The owner ushered the 3 of us into this traditionally decorated restaurant attentively. Air- con, good! In Portugal it's normal to put appetisers on the table, they cost a little at the end, but these were gratefully accepted; mushroom with garlic, cheese, migas-breadcrumbs with chorizo, really good. We didn't have to wait long. Three excellent, abundant fish dishes, around 14€ each, cod with 'natas' (egg, cream, potatoes) and a really tender grilled octopus. Finally homemade cake, all delicious, all in all the meal cost 75€ with 1/2 of local wine and a drink. Really nice meal and attention!
David F — Google review
The service is very unfriendly. I was there on a busy day, and thus willing to wait a while. But the waiters forgot about me several times, even after other guests told them I was still waiting for the menu! After 40 min, I could finally order. One of the waiters then brought me some entrées which I didn't order, saying something in rapid Portuguese -- I told him I only speak a little and didn't understand, but he just left. When other guests, who arrived just two minutes ago, got drinks although I was still waiting for mine , I just left.

Termas Romanas de Évora is a surprising find in the city hall, dating back to the 1st century. The ruins include a steam bath, heating system, and an outdoor pool that were once part of the largest building in the city. Visitors can freely access this well-preserved site and may also encounter exhibitions inside the city hall. Despite its small size, it's definitely worth a visit to witness this ancient treasure firsthand.

(Translated by Google) As always in Évora, resources are poorly managed. It has a courtyard that looks abandoned and a glass display window for God knows what purpose, stairs that lead to the regional office and no sign that visitors cannot visit. Only small parts of the noble house remain, including the monumental staircase due to the tiles. The rest are modern interventions in very bad taste, ugly display windows and aluminum frames. It is in disrepair. (Original) Como sempre em Évora, recursos mal geridos. Tem um pátio de aspecto abandonado e vitrine em vidro sabe Deus para quê, escadarias que dão para a direção regional e nenhum aviso que não se pode visitar.
