Specialty Museums
Museu Condes de Castro Guimarães is a Revivalist-style palace dating back to 1900, featuring an array of exhibits including paintings, ancient artifacts, and old books. Housed in the former Sao Sebastiao Tower, this museum offers a glimpse into the era when it was inhabited by the Castro Guimaraes counts until 1927.
The eclectic home of the Irishman Jorge O'Neill, inaugurated in 1900, overlooks the bay of Santa Marta in Cascais and offers a fascinating mix of styles. Furnishings, paintings and porcelain are displayed in the richly decorated rooms. Established as a museum almost a hundred years ago, the villa also has an ancient small chapel, with typical azulejos, and a beautiful park, used daily by children and adults, with play and relaxation areas. The park also has a pond and is populated by roosters, ducks and a beautiful peacock.

Unfortunately, we left the museum disappointed. We wanted to go inside, but we encountered an obstacle when trying to purchase tickets. They did not accept credit cards, so we could only pay with cash. The ticket for two people cost 10 euros, which I tried to pay with a 100 euro banknote. However, the cashier refused our 100 euro banknote without explanation, so we couldn't buy tickets. It's incomprehensible to us why 90 euros in change would be a problem for a museum. We did check out the garden, which was free, but unfortunately, that was also a disappointment. None of the numerous fountains and pools contained water, which significantly detracted from the overall appearance and atmosphere. Overall, our visit to the museum was an unpleasant experience. We hope others will have a more pleasant one!
Marcell B — Google review
Really interesting to building eith lits of lovely tiles almost round the interior walls. Fully furnished and lots of info to read. Many valuable things like silver platters and paintings. V cheap to get in too
Debbie G — Google review
I got lucky to visit this museum on first Sunday of a month what made my ticket cost 0€. It was spontaneous decision to stop by but I loved it. Museum is in very good condition plus the area around is really beautiful. Nice experience for single visit. Nothing special what you cannot see in other museums of Lisbon and the district but for free I was more than glad to explore it. Location is good as well - the park around is probably one of the best in Cascais
Olha P — Google review
Loved it so much! Beautiful inside, so much to see, and only €5! One of my Top 5 museums in Europe so far! The gardens outside are also spectacular, the entire place is like a cut and paste from a picture perfect magazine ! Bring a snack and sit in the park for a picnic.
LetsViewTheWorld L — Google review
Very cool museum but the best part was they put on a dance performance in traditional costumes at the end in the courtyard, beautiful.
Luke S — Google review
Really beautiful. Place was huge and information was visible at prominent locations.

Beautiful home-museum. It looks like small castle outside and interior is also pretty grand. You have access to the tower as well (quite easy spiral stairs). Inexpensive and lovely small museum. Worth to visit.

Architectural Buildings
Casa das Histórias Paula Rego is a chic and upscale destination in Cascais, Portugal, offering a variety of attractions for visitors. The museum is dedicated to the late Paula Rego, one of Portugal's greatest contemporary artists. It houses a collection of her colorful and figurative artworks from the 1950s to the 1990s in bold pyramid-shaped towers inspired by the Palacio Nacional in Sintra.
This is a stunning piece of architecture housing a continuously changing exhibition of Paula Rego’s varied work. As an Anglo/Portuguese artist she her work is varied and shows empowering messages. From sculpture to theatrical costume with the illustration I can’t recommend this museum enough. The knowledge of the staff was incredible and I will revisit to build more knowledge of this amazing woman.
Ivan O — Google review
Stunning building by Souto de Moura. Nice use of space & they have bean bags outside where you can sit freely on the gardens. Collection was amazing but not much to see bc the place's a bit small.
Chantika M — Google review
A small but concentrated museum well worth while visiting a little outside of Lisbon. I was staying in Lisbon so took a train from the Cais do Sodré station to Cascais. Trains run every 20 minutes but seem to be very busy at rush hour so go at off peak times. The museum was about a twenty five minute walk from the station down through the rather lovely town. Staff were very friendly and the collection seems to be very good indeed. Recommended. FYI the museum is about a 10 minute walk from the coast. I walked back into town, ice cream in hand, from the museum to the Boca do Inferno along the coast path, passing some crazy architecture and the castle before ending up back in the town. Beautiful views and interesting all the way.
Grant B — Google review
I was mildly disappointed. The exhibition space is small, and looks like it is rotational display so we miss out on the artist's most recognizable paintings. However, the true highlight is the building. The striking, terracotta-red, with its twin pyramidal towers, is a contemporary masterpiece designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura, and is the undeniable feature that makes the visit worthwhile.
Ksenia H — Google review
Highly divertive and mind-provoking exhibition, it was a well-used hour that I spended here. Even if the work of Paula Rego have some very dark topics and charisma, it's something you don't get to see somewhere else - unique work. And the building itself is of course marvellous!

It was short but sweet. The inside of the pyramid ceilings were awesome. It was a nice visit and the facilities were great. Worth the visit if you are in Cascais.

Historical landmark
The Santa Marta Lighthouse Museum, still in operation as a navigational aid, was fully restored by Portuguese architects Francisco and Manuel Aires Mateus. Visitors can explore the grand terrace facing the sea for free, but inside the old keepers house is where you'll find an array of exhibits. The museum showcases objects related to Portuguese lighthouses, including specially created Fresnel lenses, and offers insights into the daily life of a lighthouse keeper through displays and diaries.
The main section of the museum is closed (at point of this review). The other parts with the optics and videos you can view for free. Also has a good view of the Santa Marta lighthouse (Farol). There are also informative panels in Portuguese and English outside the museum.
Cheok O — Google review
A unique place located on the coast next to the lighthouse museum, hidden from tourists and onlookers. But if you still find it, you will be rewarded with excellent music, delicious coffee, cocktails and small snacks. I highly recommend it )
Vitaliy C — Google review
WARNING! LIGHTHOUSE IS STILL CLOSED = you can't go inside tower. you can go for free to terrace and 2 small museum rooms. cute bistro with good music is fine.
Jakub B — Google review
A small but fascinating lighthouse museum in Cascais with stunning views over the coast. The exhibition explains the history of lighthouses and maritime navigation, and the location itself is picturesque. Great for a short cultural stop combined with a walk along the seaside. A hidden gem for history and ocean lovers.
Sven ( — Google review
Easy to get to. Closed so we could not go up into it. Easy pit stop so I would stop by if you are killing time.
Kenzie W — Google review
charming coastal town in Portugal. The lighthouse was built in the late 19th century and has since become a popular attraction for visitors to the area. The lighthouse is situated on a hill overlooking the sea, providing visitors with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding coastline. The interior of the lighthouse has been beautifully restored, with exhibits detailing the history of the lighthouse and the important role it played in maritime navigation. Visitors can also climb to the top of the lighthouse for even more stunning views of the surrounding area. The climb to the top is relatively easy, with a series of steps leading up to the observation deck. Once at the top, visitors can take in panoramic views of the sea and the charming town of Cascais. In addition to the lighthouse itself, the surrounding area is also worth exploring. The nearby marina is home to several restaurants and cafes, where visitors can enjoy a meal while taking in the picturesque views of the ocean. Overall, the Santa Marta Lighthouse is a must-visit attraction for anyone traveling to Cascais. Its beautiful architecture, rich history, and stunning views make it a unique and memorable destination.

Fun & Games
Casino Estoril is a sprawling and modern entertainment complex in Portugal, known for its gaming tables, slot machines, restaurants, and live shows. Situated in Estoril, it's just 18 kilometers from Lisbon and 20 kilometers from the International Airport. The casino has a rich history as a gathering place for spies and royals during World War II, inspiring Ian Fleming's James Bond novels. Its gardens extend to the train station and offer a pleasant setting for walks or bike rides.
Just stop by when travelling from Cascais back to Lisbon. We wanted to see the famous casino from the outside. The park in front of it looks really amazing, we loved this short visit.
Goran M — Google review
I had a fall in the Casino's car park. It was at night and there was no lighting. There are obstacles that should have been removed. Despite writing two emails to the addresses provided, I did not receive a response from the Casino with the information about the insurance policy, so the only option left for me is legal action.
Rafa — Google review
This place is fabulous. Like walking back in time. I especially liked the added security at the door, where you show your identification and receive an entrance card to use in the future Mandolin restaurant is great! And I won enough on video poker to pay for it!
Lisa P — Google review
The Estoril Casino is elegant and provides an entertaining experience with its variety of games and classic atmosphere. The staff is attentive, and there are nice restaurants on-site. I don’t give it more stars because it can be pricey for what it offers, and some areas feel a bit outdated. Great for a short visit, but not somewhere to spend the whole day.
Sergio M — Google review
We visited here to pass a few hours after our trip to Estoril. It was nice, not busy but we did go around 6pm and depending on which way you walk up you have to walk all the way around the building to find the main entrance in day time. The staff are helpful and food was reasonably priced. With some veggie snack options.
Harpreet M — Google review
Great sound at the music venue. Size is also perfect. Not too big not too small. Drinks are at reasonable prices. Helpful and friendly staff.
Ilya B — Google review
Pretty bad casino compared to other major ones. One of the roulette croupiers is extremely unfriendly, I’ve never experienced anything like that in a casino before. They should consider internal training on respectful customer service. Slot machines are also very old.
TheJackBenderReborn — Google review
When you drink something (even a water) you need to pay it while playing. Slot machines same old with me, very small. My expectation was higher, anyway it was a good night and everyone was kind and friendly. Thanks!

The Museu do Mar Rei Dom Carlos I, located in Cascais, is a small museum housed in an 1879 building that was once the Sporting Clube de Cascais sponsored by King Carlos. The museum is dedicated to showcasing exhibits on marine life, archaeology, and Portugal's deep connection with the sea. It offers insights into the history of the Cascais fishing community and explores various subjects such as marine fossils, fishing boats, and stories related to the sea.
Well done Portuguese Maritime and Marine Life history with easy to read signs in English too. Nice original artifacts of historical boats and equipment.

Even though I'm not that person who loves the sea that much (at least not that much as I love the mountains), it's been a really interesting visit here in the Museu do Mar. Appropriate for kids and adults, in the best case for the whole family.
TheGeorg278 — Google review
A Hidden Gem in Cascais for a rainy day with Kids. We had no idea this museum even existed, but thankfully, another museum recommended we pop over, and we’re so glad we did! It’s a great spot for kids, with plenty to keep them engaged. The model sharks and dolphins were a big hit, and my kids especially loved the interactive room with ocean sounds and the sea table. A lovely little museum, definitely worth a visit if you’re in Cascais.

Worth it’s cost. Personally I liked it here, besides it’s totally family friendly. The museum isn’t that big, but you can totally spend about an hour here enjoying all the mammals around. :) Appreciate information in English they have here. Of course, I’d like to see more exclusive stuff regarding the royal family, hope they will add some new items in the future.

Igreja Paroquial de Nossa Senhora da Assunção, also known as the Church of Lady of the Assumption, is a beautifully painted church located in Cascais Old Town. This architectural monument miraculously survived the 1755 earthquake and is adorned with stunning paintings, including works by 17th-century artist Josefa de Obidos. The church is situated on a leafy square towards the western edge of town and offers a serene atmosphere for visitors to explore.
We visited on the Monday after Palm Sunday. The church was beautifully decorated for Palm Sunday.

The cobblestone streets are lined with colorful cottages, and the harbor is dotted with picturesque fishing boats. It's a popular spot for both locals and tourists to unwind by the sea. While once a bustling fishing hub, it now attracts visitors looking for a convenient beach experience near Cascais' main square and old town.
Beautiful, calm but cold sea water and popular ship port beach. The scenery is amazing with cobble stone street surroundings and vendors with great food options. A must-see and explore town of Cascais!

A nice beach to sit and relax. It is only a few minutes walk from the train station. Fortress
The Citadel of Cascais is a restored royal residence with elegant interiors, a private chapel, and stunning views of the bay. Originally built as a small medieval fortress in the 15th century, it has been rebuilt and transformed over time. It played a significant role in history, serving as the summer residence for the Portuguese president.
We have been trying “like forever” to get a tour of the Citadel Palace. Either it was closed or there were no English-speaking guides available. You see, you take a risk if you simply show up to tour the Palace. If you are an English speaker, you must be accompanied by an English-speaking guide. Those are the rules. On this occasion our timing was perfect and we were fortunate to have Alexander as our English-speaking guide. He was friendly, informative, interesting and, at times, funny. We had a small group and everyone was very engaged. Apparently, our enthusiasm rubbed-off on Alexander who was even more excited and animated to share with us his thoughts and insights. A throughly enjoyable tour. Helpful Hint: Plan ahead and make a reservation. On Sundays the tours are free.

Thought I was walking into a fort but instead found myself walking into a beautiful courtyard surrounded by art galleries, tavern, bookstore, sitting areas, and the most impressive sculptures both in the front and back. There's a modern 5-star hotel at one end with a very impressive lobby. Great place if you want to have some quiet time away from the crowded bustling streets of Cascais. I'm not sure if there was anything else inside the fortress but this area alone made it worthwhile.

Very well organised tour. You will get an in-depth travel through the Portuguese past, relationships with other countries that go waaaaay back, beautiful gifts from other rulers of old . Everything is kept pristine and functional and the place was even used as an official residence quite recently. Worth a visit.

Beautiful place to visit in Cascais, its located near the beach, just a few steps, walk around and feel the special atmosphere of this magical small town, there's nice restaurants all over the place, and you better taste the fresh fishes with a glass of port wine 🍷, the open blue ocean make the moment so special and unique. 😍 This area is fantastic for handling around in the evening and it is recommended.
Shimi S — Google review
The Citadel's origins date back to the early 16th century, when King John II ordered the construction of a defensive tower to protect the entrance to the Tagus River and the nearby coastal area from pirates and invaders. Over the centuries, the structure was expanded and fortified, particularly during the reign of King Philip I of Portugal (also known as Philip II of Spain),

This place is incredible! The Casa da Guia is located in an amazing spot in Cascais, close to Guincho Beach (one of the best in Portugal), on the verge of a cliff beside the sea - it's breathtaking. Among all the great restaurants you will find here my favorite is the smallest one, located in the balcony right on the building's entrance. Try an ice cold beer on tap with some cod with Portuguese toasts and salad or crepes while you enjoy the best view of the sea.

A lovely house and grounds overlooking the sea with several boutique shops. We had a really great meal and there’s also a couple of things for kids to enjoy. However, we didn’t find any baby change!

Calm and seaside venue with some diversity for a late walk, café or dinner. doubles as a shopping plaza during the day. it's right next to the Guia lighthouse and well placed near guincho and with a great view towards cascais, on the shore.

Good place to enjoy the beach from the cliff and the restaurants in there are quite OK

Casa de Santa Maria, built in 1902 and later purchased by engineer Jose Lino, is a must-visit neighboring attraction to the lighthouse. The house boasts stunning Portuguese azulejos and intricately painted wooden ceilings reminiscent of Sintra's National Palace. Visitors can explore the private chapel on the top floor and observe the path of a dumbwaiter leading to the basement kitchen and servants' quarters from the top floor dining room.
Beautiful house with stunning views. I especially liked the ground floor. Worth a visit.

We tried to visit three times but rather inexplicably closed with no opening schedule posted locally or via Google maps. However from the outside seemed a Hopeful and the surrounding cafes were very pleasant.

The Casa de Santa Maria is a grand 19th century stately home that has a prime coastline location in the Portuguese town of Cascais. It was constructed by an Irish millionaire who made his fortune in the tobacco industry and was once the most luxurious private residence of Cascais. Mon: Closed Tue - Sun: 10:00 am-01:00 pm, 02:00 pm-06:00 pm Price: 5,00€ (Includes visit to the Santa Marta Lighthouse Museum)

(Translated by Google) Raul Lino (1879-1974) designed the Casa de Santa Maria in 1902, one of the first projects of his long life and work. Located in the Santa Marta cove, next to the lighthouse of the same name, the Casa de Santa Maria was commissioned by Jorge O’Neill, an aristocrat and financier of Irish descent. In 2004 it was acquired by the Cascais City Council. Now a National Heritage Site, its doors are open to the public, and in 2012 it was classified as a Monument of Public Interest. It is worth visiting and seeing the house’s wonderful tile panels. It is open to visitors from Tuesday to Sunday and entry is subject to the ticket price. A Portuguese restaurant with delicious food and great atmosphere. The waitstaff is attentive and the service is great. It's ideal for a romantic evening out or a relaxing lunch.
While searching for authentic Portuguese food, we stumbled upon A Nova Estrela — and we’re glad we did. Even though the place was busy, the owner took the time to serve us personally, explain the menu, and share his best recommendations. The food was simply exquisite. We started with a fresh salad and then enjoyed two main platters, all at a very affordable price. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, making the whole experience feel welcoming and genuine. Definitely a spot worth visiting for authentic flavors and friendly service!

One of mine and my family’s TOP meals in our whole week trip to Portugal. The food was insanely good!!!!!!! My hard to please dad literally could not stop mentioning how delicious everything was. The cod dish wasn’t something we originally ordered but the lovely lady (likely the owner?) kinda pushed it on us and we were sooooo happy she did. It was amazing and something we would have never thought to order for ourselves. It ended up being my dad and husband’s favorite dish. The servers were all super kinda especially considering I had a very loud and mischievous toddler at the table. He got a free little ice cream treat and it was so sweet! 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for an authentic Portuguese dining experience!

We just discovered this hidden gem of a restaurant - truly a hole-in-the-wall spot you'd never know was here without Googling it. We ordered the octopus dish, mixed salad, mango mousse with espresso, while family members tried the shrimp salad and calamari. Every single dish was spectacular. The service was outstanding, and the staff made us feel like family. We're visiting from Canada and would love to come back here again. Highly recommend!
Kaycelyn P — Google review
My experience here was excellent! I had the octopus and was delicious. We also had one of the best omelette of our trip. The owner told me it was fresh from the same morning ( true or not) it was fresh, tasty and tender. The owner is very charismatic, she can take the orders and even offer you an instant Polaroid picture at the end. Definitely a great memory in Cascais.
Pipin — Google review
Just a short walk away from the centre where is crowded with tourist and eateries, is this awesome gem. The 5 star reviews do not lie. The owner was very hospitable and thoughtful. More importantly, being a restaurant, their foods were awesome! It felt like your friend’s mum cooked you a hearty meal at home. It is that good! Very soulful and tasty. Their Cod Gratinad is highly recommended. So are their garlic shrimps! We literally emptied every single plate brought before us. Just one thing to note, some with cash. They do not accept card payment. If I am ever returning to Cascais, I am definitely coming back here to eat again
Ed T — Google review
Yummy and fresh! Soup of the day was a delicious bean and cabbage. Sea beam and octopus were perfectly cooked! Pineapple and coconut tiramisu was interesting good and cooked by one of the women there. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a reasonably priced restaurant with generous quantities!
Alejandra Z — Google review
The best part of this restaurant was the fact that the owner herself, serves you and talks to you. :) She has created a treasure. The food is authentic and tasty. We ordered the cod casserole dish with a Greek salad. The cod was a traditional dish that we hadn’t tried and I am glad we got it here. It was tasty and truly felt like a home cooked meal. We were offered to ordered dessert and then guided to the display case to pick one out of the MANY options. They all looked so so so good. We opted for the pineapple/coconut tiramisu. The dessert was seriously so GOOD!! A Nova Estrela is a must stop! Enjoy the tasty food and welcoming vibe. You even get a picture of you and your table with your check.
Kenzie W — Google review
Amazing lunch! We had the fish (sea bream) of the day, octopus and cod with potatoes, along with a pitcher of white wine sangria. Everything was absolutely delicious. The sea bream was so fresh and well seasoned. The octopus was the most tender we ever had. Very reasonably priced for how delicious everything was. I also highly recommend the white wine sangria. It was refreshing and not too sweet.

If you're on the lookout for a remarkable residential building, JDS - Building Trust is definitely worth your attention. Nestled in one of Carnide's most prestigious areas, this property boasts a generous private gross area of 168 m² and consists of four T2 housing units. While it requires some renovation work, its solid structure presents an excellent investment opportunity. You can choose to keep the units independent or transform them into a single spacious home.
My husband and I had an outstanding experience working with JDS on our home construction project. From the very beginning, their team was professional, transparent, and incredibly knowledgeable. They took the time to understand our vision and offered expert guidance throughout the entire process. If you're looking for a trustworthy and skilled construction company, I highly recommend JDS. They turned what could have been a stressful process into an enjoyable experience — we couldn’t be happier with the final result!

I had a laundry room remodeling done by them. I was absolutely blown away the communication on their part, staying in schedule and overall customer service with my wishes and worries. The Palace of Cascais Citadel is a beautiful royal residence that is home to seasonal art exhibitions and can be visited for free. It's also the official residence of visiting heads of state in Portugal.
