Government Buildings
Parliament Hill is a grand and impressive neo-Gothic complex that serves as the home of Canada's legislature. The site features stunning artworks, lush grounds, and offers guided tours for visitors. Notably, it has been the location of significant historical events, including the first Canadian gay protest in 1971 and pivotal legal battles for LGBTQ+ rights. The iconic building is a popular subject for photographs throughout the year, particularly during winter when it presents a quintessential Canadian winter scene.
Nice place to visit, but the parliament building is under construction. So the front was literally closed with cranes so could not get the good pictures. This update should be on google to inform visitors in advance. Also, we came to know that we could actually visit inside the House of Commons, senator building, but free tickets were required and those were no more available. When we search, places to visit in Ottawa, city should make sure to mention that we could visit the inside of these buildings as well. This would have actually made our trip better and more informative if could book the tickets in advance.

Astounding. The buildings are massive. There's just no way to fully grasp how big these fabulous buildings are without seeing them in person. There was a lot of construction going on, but still worth going. I took the tour of the House of Commons. It was interesting, fun, and educational. Well worth the 40-45 minutes standing & walking. They have stools they provide for you to carry with you is you cannot stand that long. I used one, it was great, sturdy, easy to use & carry.

Parliament Hill is an iconic symbol of Canada’s history, democracy, and architectural beauty. The stunning Gothic Revival buildings and the scenic views of the Ottawa River make it a must-see destination. Visitors can enjoy guided tours, the ceremonial Changing of the Guard, and the impressive evening light show. Whether day or night, Parliament Hill captures the spirit and pride of the nation beautifully... 🇨🇦
JINS L — Google review
I had such a wonderful time walking around the grounds and just taking everything in. The views are stunning, especially with the river in the background and the Peace Tower standing tall above the buildings. It’s one of those places that feels both grand and welcoming at the same time. What surprised me most was how much history is packed into the place. I expected politics, of course it’s the center of Canadian government, but I didn’t expect to come away feeling more connected to the country’s story. Inside the buildings, you don’t just see offices or chambers. You see where Canada was shaped. There’s so much to learn about Confederation and the people who helped build the country. The architecture itself tells part of the story, with its old stone and intricate carvings. It feels like a museum and a working political hub all at once. If you go, take the time to walk around slowly. Look at the statues. Sit on the lawn for a bit. You’ll leave with more than just nice pictures. You’ll leave with a better sense of Canada.
Simarjeet S — Google review
Parliament Hill is a must see when you are in Ottawa. The buildings are beautiful and the architecture is impressive up close. Walking around the grounds is peaceful and you really get a sense of history. It is especially nice in the summer with the views of the river. The only downside is it can get very busy with tourists, but it is still worth the visit. A great spot to take pictures and enjoy the heart of the city.
Mohamed T — Google review
I was stunned in admiration of the Parliament buildings . Beautiful view 😍. I visited over the weekend so I had no access into the building just the surroundings and it’s free access. Just walk around take pictures and videos and admire the structures and seeing the busyness of downtown at night was beautiful as a tourist.
Amara R — Google review
One of the must-see places in Canada. Visiting Parliament Hill was an unforgettable experience. The architecture of the Parliament Buildings is absolutely breathtaking, with their Gothic Revival style standing tall as a symbol of Canada’s history and democracy. Walking through the grounds, you can feel the importance and pride this place holds for the country. The location along the Ottawa River makes it even more beautiful, offering stunning views and plenty of great photo opportunities. The tours inside the Parliament are well organized and very informative, giving a fascinating look into Canada’s political system, heritage, and traditions. The guides were knowledgeable and passionate, which made the visit even more engaging. In the summer months, the Changing of the Guard ceremony and evening light shows on the Parliament building are must-sees—they bring the history and culture to life in such a vibrant way. The grounds are clean, accessible, and welcoming for visitors, whether you’re interested in politics, history, or just enjoying the architecture and scenery. Overall, Parliament Hill is not just a landmark but an essential stop to truly appreciate Canada’s identity and spirit. Highly recommended for both locals and tourists.

I had the opportunity to visit Parliament Hill in Ottawa, and it was a truly enriching and memorable experience. I toured the House of Commons, which offers fascinating insights into Canadian democracy and governance. Although I booked my visit after arriving in Ottawa and the English-language tour was fully booked, I opted for the French-language tour. Fortunately, our guide was very accommodating — our group had around 7–8 visitors, and while the main tour was conducted in French, the guide kindly responded to my questions in English, making the experience accessible and enjoyable. I highly recommend planning ahead to book the English tour, but even if that’s not possible, the experience remains worthwhile. A few tips for future visitors: • Don’t miss the House of Commons tour — it’s a great way to learn how the Canadian Parliament functions. • There is a souvenir shop located inside the House of Commons, right after the security check and frisking area. It offers a variety of memorabilia and gifts. • If you plan to visit the Senate, note that it is currently housed in a converted historic train station about 300–400 meters away, as the original Senate building is under renovation until 2029. Unlike the House of Commons, the Senate site does not have a souvenir shop. The entire visit offers valuable learning about Canadian governance, parliamentary procedures, and historical context. When the House is in session, visitors may also attend live proceedings on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Historic Site of Canada, is a must-see destination connecting Ottawa to Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River at Kingston. In the summer, visitors can witness Parks Canada staff operating the locks manually to allow boats through and enjoy walking, running, and cycling along the popular pathways. During winter, the Rideau Canal Skateway offers the world's largest skating rink according to Guinness Book of World Records.
Great experience. There are lots of entry points and there is a lot of room for people with all different skill levels. There were areas that were a bit rough, thought it would be smoother, if you stay in the middle it's good. There are benches and cubbies to leave your boots, but they are left in the open you have to use at your own risk. I used a backpack to bring mine with me. Definitely a great time!
Mark S — Google review
It’s a canal of historic importance to Canada. There’s not much to do about it though, especially if it’s not frozen for skating. And I was only really able to get subpar pictures from the sides
David — Google review
Tourist in ottowa ! You need to see this . This is a place you want to see in summers and in winters. The vibe here is very nice - full atmosphere for a family outing plus amazing food options by the street . The walk around canal is amazing , you can take a walk by water , by the canal , you can walk over bridge to Quebec. Whole area is scenic and beautiful. You can also go for a run or ride a bike here . Additionally - these all places in Rideau Canal area are pet friendly too . So you can go for a walk with your pets on amazing trails . The o my struggle you may face is parking - which you can find if you drive around for 2-3 mins . Overall , this is the place to start your day in ottowa as a tourist and your day will pass by itself . If you are interested you can see when canal goes down and how water is balanced too.

It was an interesting tour, we learned some history. They use an electric boat. The way it's built does not allow you to enjoy the view, the seats face each other. Our guide had a good sense of humor, kept making jokes. There's is a toilet and bar on board.

Looking for the ultimate Ottawa experience? The Rideau Canal is a must-see, no matter the season! This UNESCO World Heritage Site winds through the heart of the city, offering a picture-perfect backdrop for every kind of adventure. In the warmer months, set sail on a boat cruise, cast a line for some fishing, or simply stroll or cycle along scenic pathways-don’t forget to pack some snacks for the ducks and enjoy a picnic by the water. When winter arrives, the canal transforms into the legendary Rideau Canal Skateway-the world’s largest naturally frozen ice rink! Glide across 7.8 kilometers of sparkling ice, warm up with a hot chocolate, and treat yourself to a classic BeaverTail pastry from one of the many stands along the way. If you’re visiting during Winterlude, Ottawa’s iconic winter festival, you’ll find the canal buzzing with music, art, and family-friendly fun, including giant snow slides and dazzling ice sculptures. Insider tip: Many of Ottawa’s top attractions-like Parliament Hill, the National Gallery, and the bustling ByWard Market-are just steps from the canal, making it easy to blend sightseeing with your outdoor adventures. Whether you’re walking the dog, skating with friends, or savoring local eats at cozy canal-side restaurants, the Rideau Canal is the place to be for unforgettable memories all year round!
Julius M — Google review
Must visit place when in Ottawa. Boat ride or cycling whatever you prefer is a good way to spend time around the canal. There are not many places to park so look for parking options.
Dave P — Google review
This is a 202 km long canal linking the Ottawa River in Ottawa to Lake Ontario in Kingston. It was constructed between 1826 to 1832 and includes 46 locks, raising boats 83 metres upstream to Rideau Lakes & lowering 50 metres back down to Kingston. The Rideau Canal is a UNESO World Heritage Site and considered to be the best preserved 'slackwater' canal in North America. You can view locks 1-8 directly from Plaza Bridge. This is a great spot for picture taking and to look at the mechanics of the canal from up close. Really neat bit of sightseeing in the the city centre of Ottawa, convenient to include along with intended attractions around Parliament Hill.

This was one of the prettiest places in Ottawa to sightsee, the view was most extraordinary.

The National Gallery of Canada is a spacious museum that showcases Canadian art alongside global artworks. Established in the late 19th century, it moved to its current location in 1988 and has since become one of the world's most respected art institutions with a collection of over 75,000 works.
The National Gallery of Canada is one of the gems that Ottawa has to offer. It's a world class gallery that should be on your list of places top visit when in the Nation's Capital. The facility is modern, spacious, well-staffed and has all the amenities you'd expect from one of the largest art museums in North America. With more than 93,000 works of art, as a permanent collection, you're in for a journey around the world enriching your sight and soul with European, American, Asian, Canadian and Indigenous artwork. I highly recommend adding the National Gallery of Canada to your list of must-visit places in Ottawa. You won't regret it.

Not only does this place have famous paintings and sculptures, but the architecture itself is stunning. I loved how the sunlight comes through the atrium, you can just sit there, soak up the light, and enjoy the courtyard. Such a beautiful spot to slow down for a moment. There’s so much to see that it actually takes quite a while to walk through everything, but honestly, I didn’t mind at all. It felt like time well spent, and I didn’t want to rush any part of it.
JW K — Google review
A beautiful building with convenient parking on site and small coffee shop in the building. 2 floors of art mainly contemporary, indigenous and European art. You will need at least 2-3.5 hours to finish. Very spacious. Clean bathrooms and nice staff.
Julie — Google review
The National Gallery of Canada was excellent, with loads of Group of Seven, indigenous, and other Canadian artists, plus lots of European artists too (including a well-thought-out wall of Van Gogh’s progression as an artist). The restaurant inside is great as well, with lots of ready-made and made-to-order options.
Michelle T — Google review
2 floors, 4 sections (at time of posting - contempary upper and lower, canadian and american/european). Both visual (canvas, sculpture, fabric) and audio displays. There is a coat check ($), parking below ($) so you don't have to go outside. Take a map, you can get turned around (even with the map) alot.

A must-visit for art lovers and anyone visiting Ottawa. The grand, high-ceilinged architecture and automatic doors left us in awe, making the exhibition space feel even more elegant and enjoyable. It took us about 2–3 hours to explore the entire building and exhibitions. The museum features an excellent collection of contemporary, Indigenous, American, and European artworks and installations. It also offers a beautiful view of Parliament Hill. Inside, you will find a cafeteria, a café, a library, and a gift shop.
Chett J — Google review
Such a beautiful gallery with a WIDE variety of art styles and artists, from contemporary to european to indigenous artists! It was only 2 stories but the floors were MASSIVE. We spent 2-3hrs but defo would’ve spent more if we visited every single room. It has a massive open window panel so the natural light is super beautiful on a sunny day. Would definitely recommend!! There’s also a summer promotion going on right now, so I definitely wouldn’t miss it.
Stacy D — Google review
Many wonderful exhibits to see - I always find contemporary art interesting. With that being said, the Canadian art is what I enjoy the most. Plenty of excellent examples from the group of seven and indigenous artists. Be sure to visit the Rideau Chapel while you’re there. Absolutely stunning.

The Canadian War Museum, located in a modern building, is dedicated to preserving and showcasing Canada's military history. The museum pays tribute to the country's involvement in various conflicts such as the French and Indian War, World War I, and World War II. Designed by Raymond Moriyama, it houses over 3 million artifacts including artillery, uniforms, medals, documents, recordings and rare vehicles.
The Canadian War Museum in Ottawa is truly a must-visit if you’re in the city. It’s a place filled with so much history and information, offering a deep and meaningful look into Canada’s past. The museum is very well-organized and presents our great Canadian history in an engaging way, with exhibits that are both educational and moving. What makes it even better is that it’s enjoyable for the whole family. There are great activities for kids and interactive displays that make learning fun and memorable. Every visit feels like a new experience, there’s always something new to learn, discover, or see. We love coming back here, and each time we leave with a greater appreciation of Canada’s history and the sacrifices made. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Ottawa. ⸻ Do you want me to make it sound more like a short Google review (punchy and casual) or a detailed TripAdvisor-style review (longer, with highlights of exhibits)?

$5 tour is worth doing if you have a short time to visit but definitely could spend a whole day here! The cafe is affordable and the outside patio is a good break from the intense subject matter. The veteran's exhibit is a quiet place to contemplate in between learning about war as well. The building itself is a work of art along with the many pieces inside. Go downstairs to see the Viny Ridge plasters for sure and talk to others to gain insight!

After so many years living in the Ottawa Gatineau area I finally decided to visit this museum. I was very much surprised and impressed because I thought it might be a stale atmosphere because of the theme of the museum. I can honestly say it’s very well set up and very nicely organized. If you’re interested in the history of war, this is the place to come. 👍😎

The Canadian War Museum is one of those places that stays with you long after you leave. It’s not just a museum — it’s a powerful journey through Canada’s history, courage, and sacrifice. The moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels calm yet deeply emotional. The architecture alone tells a story, with every corner designed to make you reflect. Each exhibit is beautifully presented, combining personal stories, photos, artifacts, and multimedia in a way that connects you to the people behind the history. You don’t just learn about wars — you feel what Canadians went through. Couldn’t see The Memorial Hall. It’s also a great place for families; children love seeing the tanks, planes, and interactive displays. The museum is spotless, well-organized, and easy to explore at your own pace. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, always happy to share insights or answer questions. Whether you’re visiting Ottawa or live nearby, this museum is a must-see. It leaves you with a sense of gratitude and pride for those who served and a reminder of how precious peace truly is.

The Canadian War Museum in Ottawa offers a powerful and immersive look into Canada’s military history, from early conflicts to modern-day missions. Its exhibits are well-designed, combining artifacts, multimedia, and personal stories that make the experience both educational and emotional. Visitors especially enjoy the impressive displays of tanks, aircraft, and weapons, though the museum can feel overwhelming due to its depth and emotional weight. Overall, it’s a must-visit attraction that inspires reflection and appreciation for Canada’s sacrifices and contributions in war... 🇨🇦

I visited the War Museum last summer and can’t believe I missed writing about this fantastic experience! 🇨🇦 The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, deeply moving, and give a powerful glimpse into history. From the artifacts to the stories behind them, everything is presented in a way that makes you reflect and appreciate the sacrifices made. 🕊️ It’s both educational and emotional—a place that leaves a lasting impression. Highly recommend for anyone visiting, no matter your age or background.

A great place to visit if you want to learn more about Canada’s war history. There are many weapons and artifacts on display that vividly tell the story of past conflicts. The environment is clean, spacious, and well-organized, making it an engaging and educational experience.

Absolutely incredible museum from an information and visual perspective. It starts with four separate rooms explaining each era of Canadian war history with incredible artifacts and detailed descriptions of what occurred. Each area is very well down and then as you move to the end there is a whole floor filled with tanks and other military vehicles throughout the years of both Canadian and international origin. The museum does an amazing job of bringing war to life and helping you appreciate the scale of the wars and the equipment used. A can't miss if you are in Ottawa, however be prepared to spend a good three hours here.

The Canadian Museum of History is a captivating institution that delves into the rich tapestry of Canadian culture and history. Designed by Indigenous architect Douglas Cardinal, the building's fluid curves are reminiscent of rippling waters, paying homage to Canada's natural landscape. The museum features four permanent exhibition galleries, including the Grand Hall with towering totem poles, the First Peoples Hall, Canada Hall showcasing life-size recreations of historical settings, and Face to Face highlighting influential figures in Canadian history.
We came here to learn more about the indigenous cultures of Canada and for the children's museum. They have a great set up here, we were able to go to the children's museum right after getting our tickets to wear out our daughter a bit before going to the main museum. The children's museum is really interesting, much more than we had expected. It is really great that they have so many interactive and educational displays about different cultures around the world. Following the path from Asia, to Egypt to Mexico was a lot of fun. They have the room to rent marbles and other things to build as well. Definitely a must stop if you have kids. After she got a bit of her energy out we went upstairs to see the main exhibits. The long hallway with the mirrors telling the stories of places around the country was really interesting, a bit tricky to read, but very unique. The layout to walk through is fantastic. Walking through history from the indigenous communities, to the invasion from the French and British, to the modern day is so well laid out. Not too many interactive displays to keep our daughter entertained, but just enough. It was absolutely fascinating to basically walk through the history of Canada. Going downstairs to the great room/hall was incredible, the totem poles are enormous. Getting to see them in person and read about how the people carve them out was really impressive. I'm really glad we made the trip here and feel we got our money's worth.

What a great museum! I learned so much about Canadian history, with loads of surprises (and fun interactive features) throughout. I loved the layout, where on one side you wind through the history of Canada from ancient First Peoples to modern times. I loved learning about early French Canada and seeing Rocket Richard’s jersey. The other part of the museum was a massive First Peoples exhibit with buildings, totems and modern artwork. Super impressive. This museum was a great visit and would be perfect for families too.

I love this museum. There was so much to learn. It is so creative with its presentation and so informative too. Everyone must experience this and the war museum. We have so much to learn from the past. This museum made me feel connected to the people and their successes and struggles. The story of people migrating to Canada from different countries for different reasons. Anybody visiting Ottawa should definitely not miss this.

I took my kids to the Canadian Museum of History and had a fantastic time. The whole place is well-kept, clean, and thoughtfully designed for families. There are plenty of clean bathrooms (always a plus with kids), a cafeteria, and even vending machines for quick snacks. The highlight for us was definitely the Children’s Museum inside — my kids absolutely loved it. It can get a bit crowded and overwhelming during the summer holidays, but still totally worth it. I’ve also been during the school year and found it much calmer. We also explored the main history exhibits, which offer a fascinating look at both old and modern Canadian history. Beautiful displays, engaging content, and something for all ages. Highly recommend it for a fun and educational day out!

🏛️ Canadian Museum of History A museum that feels less like “reading plaques” and more like walking through Canada’s story. The Grand Hall is stunning — totem poles, Indigenous art, and that sweeping window view of Parliament. Exhibits span everything from First Peoples to pop culture, with immersive setups that pull you in. Kid-friendly zones that don’t feel like an afterthought. Visitors tip: Start at the top floor and work down for the best flow — but expect crowds in the Grand Hall. Bottom line: A beautiful, layered look at Canada that sticks with you.

Great place to visit, especially when the weather isn't great. Free coat check, a kids museum to let the littles run wild, and such an expansive collection of early Canadian history! I was also impressed with the very unique artifacts and the museum's commitment to return certain items or not display based on the requests of Indigenous groups.

Amazing, definitly go see if you have time. Parking onsite (undergroumd, payment required) 4 floors of canadian history. You almost want to walk down hallways that make little sense, i nearly passed the stamp collection and the painted mural on the ceiling (first photo).

Well laid out exhibits, a lot to read about and learn about the history of Canada. A bit pricey, some exhibits were missing, it can be overwhelming with the volume of information and items to go through. Overall, good experience and would recommend to anyone looking to learn more about the history of Canada.

The Canadian Museum of Nature, housed in a striking Scottish baronial-style building, offers an engaging exploration of natural history. Situated just a short walk from Parliament Hill, this historic museum features permanent galleries showcasing fossils, insects, mammals, birds, and more. Visitors can also enjoy interactive activities and special exhibitions. Notable additions include the Canada Goose Arctic Gallery and the Northern Voices Gallery, offering insights into the Arctic region and perspectives from Northern communities.
You need to give yourself plenty of time to check everything out. We were there for 4 hours and could have stayed longer. You are allowed to leave and go back in. So you can go grab at bite to eat if you want. There are elevators it is 4 stories high. The amount of fossil displays are awesome. They have beautiful displays of wildlife from birds to Polar bears. It wasn't bad in price 58 dollars for 2 adults and a child with the Butterfly exhibit interactions My son who is 35 enjoyed it just as much as my 6 year old granddaughter.

I recently visited the Canadian Museum of Nature and had an amazing time. The museum is well-organized, informative, and filled with fascinating artifacts and exhibits that appeal to both adults and kids. Each section offers something unique-from ancient fossils and minerals to wildlife displays and Indigenous stories that beautifully capture Canada’s natural history. What stood out most was how well the information is presented-clear, engaging, and easy to follow. You can tell a lot of thought and care went into curating each exhibit. The building itself is stunning, with a perfect blend of history and modern design. Overall, it was a fun, educational, and enriching experience. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Ottawa or simply curious about the wonders of nature!

I visited the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa not long ago, and overall it was a memorable experience — especially for anyone interested in natural history, fossils, and wildlife. The museum is housed in the stately Victoria Memorial Museum Building, which combines heritage architecture (stone, stained glass, carved details) with modern touches like a glass central tower added during renovations. Walking through the galleries, you move through diverse themes: fossils and dinosaurs, mammals, birds, geology, marine life, and Arctic environments. The Fossil Gallery was a highlight — seeing dinosaur skeletons and ancient marine creatures up close gives you a tangible sense of deep time. The Bird Gallery and Mammal Gallery also impressed me with their detailed dioramas and species variety. I appreciated how many exhibits include interactive or “hands-on” elements: the “live” insect / invertebrate displays, touch stations, and immersive storytelling exhibits add energy to the space. Also, temporary and feature exhibits (such as The Man Who Planted Trees) offer fresh perspectives and variety beyond the permanent galleries. On the downside, when I was there the noise level rose in busier rooms, especially with children in tow, which made some exhibits harder to absorb fully. I also found that a few sections seemed slightly dated or in need of refreshment to maintain visitor engagement. I spent around 2½ to 3 hours exploring. For a casual visitor that’s enough to see the highlights; for someone keen on pausing at every exhibit, more time is justified. Overall, the museum offers a rich, educational, and often moving experience. If you’re in Ottawa, it’s absolutely worth a visit.

The butterfly flight was definitely the highlight-such a magical and calming experience! 🦋 Loved how friendly and welcoming the staff were throughout the visit. The museum perfectly blends architecture and nature, offering both beauty and learning in every corner. A must-visit spot for anyone who enjoys exploring science, wildlife, and art all in one place.

I just went today to go to the laid exhibits...the butterfly exhibit and the immersion "The Man Who Planed Trees" exhibit. Both were amazing. I will be going back in a few days to see all the free exhibits. The museum is amazing! All the staff were very friendly and helpful! I can't wait to see the rest of it!

A Fascinating Visit to the Canadian Museum of Nature My family and I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Canadian Museum of Nature, and it was a truly fantastic day out. Located in a striking "castle" that adds to its charm, the museum is an absolute gem for anyone interested in the natural world. The museum's exhibits are incredibly well-designed and captivating. We were all completely engrossed, from the towering dinosaur skeletons in the Fossil Gallery to the live creatures in the "Bugs Alive" and "Pacific Discovery Tank" exhibits. The Mammal Gallery, with its beautifully detailed dioramas, and the Bird Gallery were also huge hits. It's clear that a lot of effort has gone into making the displays engaging and educational for all ages. For families with children, this museum is a must-see. The interactive elements and the sheer wonder of seeing things like a complete blue whale skeleton make it a memorable experience for kids. There are plenty of hands-on activities that keep them entertained while they learn. It's a place where children's natural curiosity can truly be sparked. A word of advice: plan to spend a full day here, or even more if you want to see everything. The museum is much larger than it appears from the outside, with four floors of permanent galleries and various special exhibitions. We spent a good portion of the day exploring and still felt we could have used more time to fully appreciate each section. The history of the planet and its creatures is explained in such a clear and well-organized manner that you won't want to rush through it. The Canadian Museum of Nature is a highly recommended destination for families. It provides a perfect blend of fun and education, and it's a place you'll want to take your time exploring. We left with a newfound appreciation for the incredible diversity of nature, and we're already looking forward to our next visit.

There were some aspects of the museum that were incredible and very interesting such as the dinosaur exhibit and the blue whale, however some of the rooms were not very interesting or well done. There were some rooms that felt thrown together just to fill space such as the tree and arctic exhibits that was a quick walk through, but it is worth visiting for the other exhibits. It is easy to just go up and buy tickets so no need to buy in advance.

Family Adventure at the Canadian Museum of Nature I recently visited the Canadian Museum of Nature with my partner and our two children, both under two years old. We had an incredible time, especially at the butterfly exhibition! The sight of the luminous butterflies fluttering around was nothing short of breathtaking. My kids were captivated, and it was heartwarming to see so many families enjoying the experience together. We also explored the first floor, where we checked out the dinosaur exhibition. While it was on the smaller side, it was still enjoyable and sparked curiosity in our little ones. On the second floor, we delved into the water and mammals exhibition, which was equally impressive. We even met another family who had creatively used AI to devise a scavenger hunt through the museum. I thought this was a fantastic idea, especially for families with older kids. Overall, I highly recommend the Canadian Museum of Nature for a family outing. There’s so much to see and do, and it’s a wonderful environment for children. We definitely left with smiles on our faces and great memories!

The Royal Canadian Mint, located in a castle-like 1908 headquarters in downtown Ottawa, offers guided tours and showcases the world's largest coin and gold bars. The gallery/shop displays a wide range of collectible coins with intricate designs featuring themes like Star Trek, Disney, Swarovski-encrusted symbols, and nature-inspired images. Visitors can also experience holding a 28-pound gold bar under the supervision of a security guard.
What an amazing tour! Quite glad we did it a well worth the admission. The fellow we had doing the tour was personable and knowledgeable. Gave great overviews and shows the process. If we had questions and wanted to get deeper on things (like how it is refined to 5 9s) he gave detailed explanations. Bought the kids a couple 1oz silver investment coins for their souvenir. All in all a great time. No pics from the tour as they weren’t permitted. You should try getting an appointment online - they email you back right away. That said, some people that were visiting the gift shop were able to buy and hop on to the tour while we were there.

I had the pleasure of visiting the mint this past weekend for my birthday, & I had an absolutely amazing time. I fell in love with coin collecting earlier this year when I got an advertisement on Instagram for the magic of the northern lights 3oz fine silver coin; so my brother thought it would be a fun excursion to go and do a tour of the mint. It was my second time at the mint, as my elementary school senior trip took us there, but seeing as I was only 13 years old at the time, I didn’t appreciate it nearly as much as I did this weekend. My group had an amazing tour guide named Christopher. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, & witty the entire time. He taught us about the machinery, along with some cool fun facts. It was so cool to see the manufacturing machinery for the amazing numismatics that Canada is capable of. All of the staff working in the shop were helpful and friendly as well. Hopefully I can make a trip to Winnipeg one day to check out where they make all of the circulation coins next !!

Cool info about coins, definitely worth visiting. Wish the ticket was a bit cheaper as our tour ended in less than 50 mins or at least the somehow made it interactive. In europe almost all of the museums are turning into interactive museums instead of only being informative. But i enjoyed it very much.
Katy A — Google review
The tour of the mint was okay. You are inside a gallery for the 45 minute tour and are not allowed to take any pictures and it is difficult to see what is going on at times. The only other thing is the gift shop so there is not much to do outside of the tour, which I felt left something to be desired. It did book up fast so I would recommend booking a tour in advance.
Joe D — Google review
Always a great place to visit when in Ott. Make sure you reserve in advance for your spot they fill up very fast. Lots of cool info about our coins 🪙 and the prosses. The gift shop has a great selection 👌🏽 The only thing is no photos or video on the tour,

What a cool experience! Book in advance and arrive early! This tour was so informative and interesting. I would recommend visiting during the week as there is no coin production on the weekend. Though we didn’t see any actual work being done, the views from above were so fascinating. Seeing rolls of gold and silver in rolls to blanks and the purest coins were amazing. The TV videos were great as it shows the production line up close and the tour guide knew so much and was able to answer all questions. Totally worth it, visit if you can! Parked across the road on the street for free (July 2025).

Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica, dating back to the 19th century, is a significant landmark in Ottawa. It is the oldest and largest church in the city, featuring striking Neo-Gothic architecture with skyline-dominating spires. The austere neoclassical exterior gives way to a colorful and elaborate interior adorned with magnificent stained-glass windows, intricate carvings, and hundreds of sculptures of religious figures.
Beautiful cathedral with metal spires. Opposite the art gallery and the spider sculpture. Very accessible from downtown and the parliament buildings. Inside is a stunning building with a beautiful 'night sky' roof and stained glass windows, some of which open to let fresh air in. Worth a visit from an art perspective or a place for some quiet contemplation.
Kat V — Google review
Beautiful building. Hard to get good pictures inside without disturbing everyone even though it wasn't a mass time. Loved hearing the bells ring at noon and 6 pm. They do ask all visitors to pay some money even if you don't do the tour.

I recently had the chance to visit the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica in Ottawa, and it truly exceeded my expectations. From the outside, the twin spires and detailed façade stand out beautifully, but the interior is what leaves you speechless. The carved wooden details, hand-painted ceilings, and colorful stained-glass windows create a warm, spiritual atmosphere. The sound of the grand organ adds to the sense of awe and peace. It’s a perfect place for quiet reflection and appreciating art, architecture, and history all in one. Services are offered in both English and French, reflecting Ottawa’s cultural harmony. If you visit the city, don’t miss this stunning landmark — it’s one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in Ottawa

This church in Ottawa is a must visit landmark and one of the city's most breathtaking sights. Whether you're into architecture, history, or simply looking for a quiet inspiring place to reflect, the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica is not to be missed when visiting. The twin silver spires is so eye-catching even from far away, very majestic. Once you step inside, the beauty is breathtaking, every angle reveals more craftsmanship and history, and I could easily spend hours admiring it all, inside and out.

I had a wonderful experience visiting this church. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the community made me feel comfortable right away. The service was meaningful, and the message was inspiring. It’s a peaceful place for reflection and worship.

A truly peaceful and healing experience. The atmosphere inside the church felt calm and comforting - a perfect place for reflection and quiet moments. We arrived during the mass service, so we had to wait about an hour before entering. The staff at the front were kind and guided us patiently, making the wait worthwhile. Once inside, the serenity and spiritual energy made the experience even more special.

Gatineau Park is a large forested park that is popular with nature lovers and outdoor sports enthusiasts. It has hiking trails, lakes, and camping areas, making it a great place to spend a summer day or evening.
Really nice trail. 66 connects to the Gatineau park pathway, 67 and 5. You can get to Pioneer Trail, Lac des Fees pathway. Great hike. Note that wild leeks are endangered and should not be picked. There's a wide variety of wildlife you might be fortunate enough to see. About as many cyclists as hikers. There are some inclines, but nothing too difficult for kids. I'd suggest leaving the stroller at home, however, especially if you go off the paved trails. There are not much in the way of rest areas along the trail itself, though there is the occasional parking lot. At the end of April there were only as handful of areas that were hard to cross on account of wet/muddy conditions.

First time coming to Gatineau Park, and I only visited Pink Lake. It was really beautiful and fun to hike with family and friends. It's a shame though that a lot of the trees are still green and you can't full enjoy those Fall colours, despite it being mid-October. I would give it a couple more weeks if you're planning on visiting this Fall to see the magical colours

It was my first time there ( probably the last time). For a person not from the west, it was like a windows wallpaper. Autumn was gorgeous beyond words but the leaves are fragile so u need to visit as soon as Autumn starts, because if it rains once, the leaves are gone

Really loved visiting the park. Open from 12 PM. Lot of spots in between the routes. Trials, estates, look-out spots, lakes, etc. It's worth spending a few hours over there. It's perfect in summer and fall. A few minutes drive from ottawa downtown. You can get the bus service from the starting point through the park. Pink lake and lookout spots were my favorite. I have noticed many people cycling along the path. Its a perfect spot for them too.

Pink lake was absolutely beautiful- slightly populated but everyone kept their distance. Love all the stairs and watching the fish in the water! The parking lot is closed but we found another route in- highly recommended looking at the trail system map before going and having a “back up plan”

Amazing place for walking, hiking, biking and exploring. There are free shuttles in the weekends during the summer and the fall from Ottawa area! Which is so cool for people without cars. I visited here in first week of october 2022 using the shuttle. Had a great view from the Champlain point and a good hike to Lac Meech. The place is really beautiful during the autumn. There are lot of places around to explore. The place is so vast that everything can't be covered in one day. There are lots of parking spots close to various viewpoints/ trails and also washroom accessibility. It is recommended to carry some food and water. There aren't any food kiosks inside. You can either drive very close to the viewpoints or take a hike along the trails if you are feeling adventurous. It is definitely a must visit and multiple visit-worthy place if you are around the Ottawa-Gatineau area.

Best place in the National Capital region for outdoor activities. Hiking, inline skating, biking of any kind: road, mountain, gravel, fatbike. Also a great place for winter sports like snowshoeing, cross country skiing, etc... Cars are not always allowed on the parkways which is great for cycling in summer. Look at the NCC schedule to plan your visit. There are some shelters that are free and available all year round. Definitely a great spot for outdoor enthusiasts.

Discover the captivating world of air and space travel at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. This large museum boasts an impressive collection of military and civilian aircraft, offering a comprehensive look into the history of aviation. Visitors can also explore the future of air travel through the Green Skies Ahead exhibition, which showcases innovative and eco-friendly advancements in aviation technology.
A High-Flying History: Review of the Canadian Space and Aviation Museum The Canadian Space and Aviation Museum is far more than just a hangar of old planes—it is a truly expansive journey through the country's pioneering efforts in the air and beyond. This museum is an essential visit for anyone interested in the history of flight, technology, or Canadian military heritage. Plan to set aside at least several hours to fully absorb the scale and detail of this magnificent collection. World-Class Collections and Unforgettable Sights The core collection is breathtaking, featuring an amazing assembly of aircraft spanning the entire conception of Canadian aviation. From rugged civilian bush planes that tamed the northern territories to powerful military jets and prototypes, the range is remarkably diverse. A standout feature, and one that makes this museum truly world-class, is the exceptional collection of World War One aircraft. This display offers a rare and tangible connection to the earliest days of aerial combat, making it a must-see for history buffs. Beyond the atmosphere, the museum also dedicates significant space to Canada's role in space exploration, providing a fascinating look at the technology and artifacts used in orbit. The Essential Special Tour For those looking to deepen their experience, a strong recommendation is to get a viewing of the special tour of the building located next door. This lesser-known addition offers an unforgettable glimpse behind the scenes, providing context and access that elevates the entire visit. It is well worth the extra time and effort. Practical Details for Your Visit The museum has thoughtfully considered the needs of all its guests. It is fully handicapped accessible, ensuring everyone can navigate the vast exhibit space comfortably. Visitors will also find a pleasant cafeteria on-site for refreshment and a well-stocked gift shop for souvenirs. An important note for service members and their families: Military Personnel and Veterans are granted free admission. This is a wonderful gesture that honors their service and makes this valuable piece of history accessible. Finally, with so many photogenic aircraft and compelling displays, make sure you bring a camera to capture the scope of this incredible aviation assembly.

We came here to use our ASTC Passport. The staff was friendly, handed us a map and told us about the demonstrations that they were going to be doing over the next couple hours. This place is really large and they have a lot of planes, helicopters, and a few ground based vehicles. It can get quite loud since everything echoes in this massive warehouse. Most of the displays are static displays that you will pause to read. A lot of really interesting aviation history going back over 100 years. I was a big fan of the display regarding the engines used in planes. Their kid section is pretty small, so it can get crowded and chaotic. They did have a great demonstration for the kids and adults about how to land a plane. Being able to sit in a cockpit really makes you appreciate what fighter pilots go through. Overall it is a really interesting museum with a lot of interesting planes. It's not really a place I would bring a younger child as there isn't much for them to do and interact with. If you have time to walk and read this is a good place to go.

Very reasonable price and family friendly. Not too big for a visit with little children. Additional hall to visit with a guide available, can be booked while your visit. The crafts program was open and offered a very cute project. Nice play area in the middle of the excebition hall. Lots of interactive exhibits. Cafeteria with cold drinks and sandwiches.

Fantastic experience for all ages! The museum features an impressive collection of aircraft, helicopters, and space artifacts, showcasing Canada’s rich aviation and space history. The displays are well-organized with interactive elements and plenty of information. Great for kids and adults alike. Plan for 1.5–2 hours to explore comfortably. A fun and educational visit!

Lovely day trip out to Ottawa yielded a trip to this place. It was around 20$ CAD Per person, my duration of stay was about 2 hours but it could've easily been three. Lots of cool history here to see, and there's a helicopter ride you can take. Also there's a fighter Simulator but it wasnt open that day for us. Aviation buffs this is a must visit in your life time.
Jason B — Google review
What a great experience this was! So much information and so many planes! Definitely make sure you are there for one of the $8 1hr tours of the hangar, a great bonus for the value!
Nick — Google review
Starts at the story of human desire to fly and then covers the early years, world war 1, and 2, cold war, bush and early commercial planes and then covers early space flights, space shuttles, international space station. An extensive collection of planes, artifacts, history of airports and ground communication with planes. Tribute to Canadian ingenuity (CanadaArm). its astronauts, and innovations attributed to Canada. Can spend over 4 hours going thru each and every display/exhibit. Lots for kids to explore. Another hangar (which i did not visit) has an immense collection in storage that they rotate out from the main exhibit. One can pay a small additional fee to see that as well. If you like aviation and space. A must visit while in Ottawa
Phil V — Google review
Large museum filled with actual airplanes and some replicas of historic planes models and prototypes. A good balance of bilingual information on plane present. The planes are somewhat organized chronologically by grouping them by war, although an introduction before Bleriot and Montgolfier could be interesting. The museum was quiet on a weekday beside 3 school groups. As a result, an exercice was prepared for the high schoolers but no demos no workshops no shows no book reading offered to regular museum goers - that lack of interaction felt like a missed opportunity. Young kids can enjoy busy boards, panels, ride on planes, a library, etc. The Destination Moon exhibit was well done and allowed the visitors to experience and immerse themselves as astronauts. Options at cafeteria are too basic (prepackaged sandwiches) Parking - Indigo 9.50$/day

Discover the intriguing history of Canada's Cold War at the Diefenbunker: Canada's Cold War Museum, a massive underground bunker in Ottawa. Originally built to protect government officials during a nuclear attack, this 4-level, 100,000 square foot facility now offers visitors a glimpse into this pivotal period of history. Explore recreated workspaces and living quarters equipped with vintage technology and cryptographic areas. The museum also hosts annual events like 'Incident in the Bunker' for an immersive experience.
This is one of the coolest places to explore in Canada. Visiting feels like stepping into a frozen time capsule. The atmosphere is very retro, with bright colours on the cabinets and flooring that create a cheerful vibe. The history behind the place is fascinating. We spent about two hours exploring all four levels on a self-guided tour. This was my second visit, and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time. The first (top) level is accessible, but we couldn’t take the stroller any further since there are no elevators. Moving between levels requires stairs.

The amount of Canadian history crammed into this facility is amazing. It’s extremely well laid out and very very informative. We learned a lot about the Cold War era from the Canadian perspective. I highly recommend this facility. The staff were very friendly and the price is quite reasonable.

I’ve visited some pretty unusual places before, but this one ranks near the top! The sheer scope of this “secret” facility — built in less than 18 months back in 1959 — is absolutely mind-blowing. The Diefenbunker offers a fascinating glimpse into Cold War history, and it’s incredibly well-preserved. Our tour guide, Graham, a retired CSIS IT professional, was a superb storyteller. His anecdotes, humour, and passion really made the experience come alive — the perfect guide for a place that was never supposed to exist! If you’re anywhere near Ottawa, this is a must-see.
BJ G — Google review
Definitely worth a stop. When you first arrive, it doesn't feel like much... and that's perfect for what it is. But there are four floors of exploration, each with plenty of knowledge to share and plenty to see. We honestly came here for the Fallout bunker vibes, and we definitely got it. Sometimes it can get busy, which feels more prominent with the environment, but it was still a great experience nonetheless! Remember to buy your tickets online in advance!
Ray B — Google review
This is a great activity. An amazing piece of Canadian history. More than a museum considering the facility was actually in service up until early 1990s. It is a huge complex and there lots to see, and get lost. I would recommend a guided tour, but planning enough time before or after to roam around on your own too.
Stéphane L — Google review
Great museum, I've been coming to this area for decades and only last year found our how close the bunker was to us. If you like history museums then this one is a must see. Mostly intact and well preserved, it will take about 3 hrs to walk, see and read the contents of the 4 floors. Lots of free parking and you can go have an awesome lunch at the Cheshire Cat just down the road.

This is trip to the past to understand better today’s events. Exiting walk trough the rooms where could be made so important decisions. It has much information about Cold War and the world of those years. Great museum which has to be attended!

Absolutely awesome tour! The bunker is in a time warp and the guided tour was extremely insightful on how soldiers and high command dignitaries as well as commanders operated in the bunker. The technology of running air and water systems was out of this world for the era of time. I would highly recommend the tour and a must see when visiting the Ottawa region! 10 stars if I could give it!

This grand structure, reminiscent of Buckingham Palace, boasts an impressive 175 rooms spread over 9,500 square meters and is set within beautifully landscaped grounds that span 88 acres. While access can be a bit tricky—requiring a short walk from nearby street parking through Sussex Gate—the journey offers delightful views of surrounding sculptures.
I’ve been to Ottawa many times, but visiting Rideau Hall had always been on my list—and I finally got to go! You do need to make a reservation, but it’s pretty easy to book. The tour is guided—I'm not sure if the guide was a staff member or a volunteer, but we had one person take us around the residence. Luckily, no one else joined our time slot, so it turned into a private tour for just the two of us! The inside was more elegant than I expected. We got to see portraits of past Governors General, peek into the event halls and workspaces, and really got a feel for the history and atmosphere. Definitely worth the visit!

It's beautiful!!! In any season, this place is a must stop in for a relief from the city bustle or to visit the elegant spaces where awards for outstanding acts are handed to incredible Canadians. It's incredible that we get to visit the Governor General Residence Public spaces. The visitor Center has accessible toilets, a picnic area and park. The grounds are flat and easy to navigate, even with a stroller or wheelchair. The rose garden was pretty but the flat water fountain was impressive. The massive trees and plants of the gardens are beautiful. The staff is bilingual French/English, so kind and patient. We asked a lot or questions. My 15 and 12 year old were entertained and enjoyed the experience. They didn't think young children would find it fun. You have to go through security to go in, and they check bags so leave as much at "home". They do search.

Despite living down the street for years I had never been inside Rideau Hall until attending a Days Open event during summer 2025. This is a beautiful residence and the staff are knowledgeable on the history of the rooms and artwork. The tent room and greenhouse were each a particular favourite spot on the self guided tour. The grounds are open during daylight hours regularly. Minus one star for not allowing dogs on the grounds (solution: on leash and fines for not picking up after them could easily allow the pleasure of dog walking to occur).

I had a wonderful time visiting Rideau Hall. The building is full of Canadian history and beautifully maintained, both inside and out. Touring the interior was a real treat, the rooms are elegant and filled with fascinating details, from artwork to architecture. Since it’s not generally open to the public year-round, it felt special to be able to step inside. A worthwhile visit if you get the chance!

The National War Memorial, located in Confederation Square, is a significant tribute to the Canadian Armed Forces. The memorial features a 70-ft arch and bronze statues, serving as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by servicemen and women. Originally built in 1939 to honor those who died in World War I, it has since been rededicated to commemorate all Canadians lost in conflicts past and future.
The National War Memorial, known as The Response in French (La Réponse), is a stunning granite arch with beautiful bronze sculptures right in the heart of downtown Ottawa. This memorial is a heartfelt tribute to the brave Canadian soldiers who have served our country during wartime, and it's dedicated to honoring their sacrifices. Whether you're a local or just visiting, taking a moment to see this iconic landmark is a truly moving experience. I highly recommend stopping by the Memorial when you're in Ottawa to pay your respects with a minute of silence. Every year on November 11, The Royal Canadian Legion organizes the National Remembrance Day Ceremony at the National War Memorial to honor the courageous men and women who have served in Canada’s military. It’s a very meaningful event that you won’t want to miss!

This is quite the monument here in downtown Ottawa. I like coming here often on a nice sunny day and taking in the ambiance of this war memorial. Unlike others I don’t find Ottawa boring and it has lots to offer in terms of scenery and history. This is one such spot. 👍😎

Visiting The National War Memorial was moving experience. I came here on Canada day to visit Parliament Hill, and stopping by the memorial was an experience i can never forget during my Montreal visit. The two soldiers who stood in front of the memorial (see images below for reference) heightened the powerful sight further.

The National War Memorial is located at Confederation Square. It was designed by Vernon March and unveiled by King George VI in 1939 in honour of Canadians who served the Crown and those who gave their lives during WWI. The monument was later dedicated to those who served in the Canadian forces in all conflicts. It is touching and moving monument and wonderful tribute to those Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the freedoms that today's generation enjoy today. What you see is a 22 metre tall monument including a allegorical arrangement of two bronze figures atop a tall arch. Within the apex of the arch is a sculptural cluster of 22 bronze figures representing various military roles. It is a beautiful arrangement worth viewing from all sides. Reference to the various conflicts are found around the monument by way of listed years in which Canadian forces served. The monument is fronted by two ceremonial guard sentries as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Brad — Google review
The monument is dominating the landscape with its height. We were lucky to catch a change of guard (we didn’t know the schedule) and was a nice experience.
Andreea D — Google review
The granite arch portrays bronze sculptures of World War One Canadian soldiers, sailors and airmen. It is also dedicated to those killed in the Second Boer War, World War Two, the Korean War, the War in Afghanistan and all conflicts in the past and those to come in the future. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier lies in front of the memorial.

It's really important for Canada history, if you visit Ottawa, you should check it down.

I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at Igloofest Gatineau for the first time on February 14th and 15th, and it was an unforgettable experience! As the inaugural edition of this winter festival, everything was perfectly organized, and it truly captured the spirit of both the Ottawa and Gatineau communities. The festival site was ideally chosen—right across the Portage Bridge, it perfectly connects Ottawa and Gatineau, making it easy for commuters to attend. Plus, the location is a great way to support and elevate the local electronic music scene, which is in need of more exposure and opportunities to grow. From the vibrant atmosphere to the top-notch music lineup, Igloofest was an amazing way to celebrate winter in the region. I can’t wait for future editions and to continue being a part of this exciting event!

Majors Hill Park is a popular destination in Ottawa, located near the downtown area and close to several notable attractions. This leafy city park offers stunning views of the Ottawa River and the Ottawa Locks, making it a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. The park hosts seasonal events and features beautiful gardens, providing an ideal setting for picnics.
Our hotel was only a couple of blocks away so this park made for a very nice early morning walk. Just past the iconic Ottawa sign is a flight of stairs that leads up to the park. It's not all that large but the paved walkways provide a pleasant ramble with lovely views of the river and Parliament Hill (and its construction cranes!). We were about 2 weeks early for the tulips but the grounds are well-maintained, and there are a comfortable number of educational plaques and stones that provide some historical info. If you're looking for a longer walk, you can go south, cross the river and visit Parliament Hill or you can just walk along boulevard next to the river.

Even on a hot, sunny day, Major's Hill Park captivated us with its beauty. We were fortunate to catch the tail end of the tulip season, with vibrant blooms lining the pathways. Highly recommend visiting for a peaceful and picturesque experience.

right in the heart of downtown between the Château Laurier, the Parliament Buildings, and the Rideau Canal. The views are incredible, especially of the Ottawa River and Parliament Hill, making it a favourite spot for photos and quiet walks. The park is clean, safe, and full of open lawns, gardens, and shaded paths. There are plenty of benches and lookout points where you can just sit and take in the scenery. Parking nearby can be tricky, but it’s easily accessible by foot or public transit. In spring, the tulip displays are gorgeous, and the park often hosts cultural and community events. It’s peaceful yet lively, a perfect mix of nature and city charm, right at the core of Canada’s capital.

The Bytown Museum, located in downtown Ottawa near the Ottawa Locks on the Rideau Canal, offers a captivating journey through the city's history from its early days as Bytown to its current status as Canada's capital. Housed in a historic stone building that was once a treasury, the museum provides an immersive experience with exhibits and an audio tour showcasing Ottawa's transformation over time.
I spent an hour at the Bytown Museum with my kids, and we all enjoyed exploring the fascinating collection. The museum, located in Ottawa's oldest stone building, offers a rich glimpse into the city's early history and the construction of the Rideau Canal. The exhibits are engaging and well-presented, making it an enjoyable and educational experience for both adults and children. It's a great place to learn about the local history in an interactive way. Highly recommended for families and history enthusiasts!

This is a small museum with three floors. They have some unique local items, including maps of the city showing its growth through the years, old photographs, some artifacts from lumberjacks and navvies, as well as memorabilia from local dignitaries and celebrities of bygone days. I appreciated seeing the personal items from E B Eddy and D'arcy McGee. A visit to the storage area for wine and explosives allows you to see the thickness of the walls of this oldest of Ottawa buildings. (Circa 1827) There are employees to answer questions. Tickets are not expensive, only under 15 for 2 seniors. Well worth a visit for history buffs!

I'll admit, I came for the Aircon, but I stayed as this was a great little museum. Really enjoyed seeing all of the exhibits about the history of Ottawa. The signposts are informative and clear, and the museum is well structured and spaced out so it doesn't feel cramped. Very reasonably priced also. Would recommend!!

A Deep Dive into Ottawa's Past at the Bytown Museum The Bytown Museum in Ottawa is truly a must-visit. What makes it particularly engaging is the audio guide, available from reception. This 45-minute audio tour expertly leads you through each exhibit, transporting you back in time to the very beginnings of Ottawa. It vividly recounts the arrival of the settlers on Algonquin and Indigenous lands, detailing how the fur trade began and the subsequent influx of newcomers. The museum also beautifully illustrates the social and economic conditions of that era, guiding you through significant events like the Great Fire and the establishment of the ByWard Market. Furthermore, it highlights the construction of the Rideau Canal and its crucial military importance. Housed in one of Ottawa's oldest standing stone structures, the museum does an excellent job of tracing the city's history. This three-floor museum is a delightful experience. If you're keen to learn about Ottawa's rich history, it's an essential stop. The staff are incredibly helpful and kind, making the visit even more pleasant. I would always recommend putting the Bytown Museum on your list of things to do in Ottawa.

We had an incredible experience hosting our wedding at the National Arts Centre (NAC). Our coordinator, Kim, was responsive, knowledgeable, accommodating, and professional. She helped us plan every aspect of our day, including the smallest details, which made the entire process seamless and stress-free. The food provided by the NAC was absolutely delicious and we received so many compliments from our guests. While the contract encourages the use of their preferred decor, entertainment, and accommodation vendors, this worked out well for us and made planning even easier. The venue itself is stunning, providing a beautiful and elegant backdrop for our ceremony and reception. Overall, it was a perfect day, and we highly recommend the NAC for anyone looking to host a wedding.

Amazing day at this museum: plan to stay the day, bring a lunch (minimal options at cafeteria). The museum offers demos even on quiet weekdays - we attended 3 shows and they were very engaging, bilingual, and great learning opportunities! The train exhibit is captivating and there are some wooden trains to play with. Most of the exhibits have interactive activities, cycling through times allows you to ride and race on a bike, several microscope, height comparison, etc. A whole zone for under 8 years old allow kids to explore on their own - truly engaging. Canada Science and Technology Museum — Family Visit Review We visited the Canada Science and Technology Museum last weekend with our family, and it was a fantastic experience. The kids had a great time exploring all the interactive exhibits and activities, and the adults enjoyed refreshing their own science and technology knowledge. The ticket prices were reasonable, and with the Strong Pass, you get additional discounts, which is a nice bonus. At the entrance, after check in, they provided us with maps, and each exhibit room was clearly labeled, making it easy to navigate from one gallery to the next. The museum layout is very intuitive, with rooms connected in a way that lets you flow naturally through the space. The amount of information and hands-on learning available is incredible — truly a brain gym for kids! There was so much to learn, from basic scientific principles to complex technology concepts, all explained through simple and engaging experiments. This interactive approach really makes science come alive. There were plenty of activities to keep the kids engaged, including hands-on stations, games, and even demonstrations. Adults will find it equally fascinating, with opportunities to revisit and reconnect with science and tech concepts they might have forgotten. The museum is quite large, so I would recommend planning for at least 4 to 6 hours, depending on how deeply you want to explore each area. We hadn’t fully planned our time and ended up having to skip the last block of exhibits, so be sure to allow enough time if you want to see everything. I didn’t notice a dedicated refreshment area or café, so if you have kids who might need a snack break, it’s best to check with the front desk about food and drink options before you start your tour. Parking was easy, and the staff at the entrance were friendly and patient Overall, this museum is absolutely worth your time. It’s educational, entertaining, and suitable for all ages. Highly recommend a visit!

Very fun to walk around and learn about the advancement of the technology we see everyday, the the technology we left behind. We loved the Sound section with the fun gadgets we could play around with. The Kitchen section felt the most informative and the steam power section was the most fun to walk around due to the absolute scale of the trains. The building also looks quite nice.

It's a brilliant place to spend time with your kids as there is so much to explore and learn. The place is well laid out and the exhibits are well thought through. The best bit is now interactive some of the displays are making them fun for not just for the kids but their parents as well. There is so much to learn and explore - don't believe the guys when they say two and a half hours is enough - for we took a lot longer and still in the end felt we might have missed bits.. The Zoom space for kids is so much fun - from rock climbing to making shapes and patterns with foam boards, but the best was making your cars and testing the different tracks - by far the most popular activity for kids! Didn't eat food in the cafe as felt the option were not exciting for the money they were charging - so would let you decide on your own. Will I recommend a visit - absolutely yes! If you have kids and want them to learn and explore without the screens then this is surely worth a visit. Happy exploring! P.S. - the guys working there (Red T-shirts) are so friendly and one of the best I have come across in all the museums I have visited.

We were able to come here and use our ASTC passport which was awesome. The parking lots have plenty of space and some EV chargers which is great. The staff was friendly and got us in with our passport. They have a nice little cafe with Beavertails in the back, so we stopped there for a quick breakfast and coffee. The displays here are great, so many interactive displays from bicycles, to trains, to audio and visual displays there is a lot to take in. This is a great spot for families or just adults who can tolerate kids being around. The history of sporting for people with disabilities was really interesting. This place really has something for everyone, whether you are interested in the human body, space, housing, etc you will probably find a section that interests you. The kids specific area was a lot of fun, although one of the displays was a bit broken unfortunately. Being able to race cars you build on a track and climb a rock wall was a ton of fun for our daughter. Being able to go race other kids on the bikes was something she really enjoyed too. We certainly had a good family outing and I think we all learned a few new things.

The Bank of Canada Museum, located just steps away from Parliament Hill in Ottawa, has recently undergone a major renovation and is now open to the public. The museum offers interactive exhibits that educate visitors of all ages about the significance of money and currency in the economy. Guests can create their own avatars and explore various displays, including learning how to detect counterfeit currency and discovering banknotes from around the world. The museum provides an engaging experience with video game-style interactive exhibits.
Our visit to the Bank of Canada Museum was a refreshing and educational highlight during our trip to Ottawa. Located just steps from Parliament Hill, this modern, well-curated museum offers deep insights into the history, mechanics, and future of Canada’s economy—making it a must-visit, especially for those with an interest in finance, currency, or global economic systems. From the moment we entered, the museum impressed us with its interactive displays, rich visuals, and multilingual audio guides. The museum does an excellent job of demystifying complex topics like inflation, trade, employment, and economic planning. Exhibits such as “What a Coin is Worth” and “Engines of the Economy” explain how currency has evolved over time and how national economies are built and sustained. One of the most nostalgic moments for us was seeing preserved currencies from around the world, including India’s now-discontinued 500 and 1000 rupee notes. It brought back memories and highlighted the global nature of economic history. Other intriguing exhibits included a historic balance scale, antique cash registers, and a beautifully detailed silver teapot with royal engravings symbolizing past presentations or ceremonial use. The museum also features: • Large-scale digital maps showing immigration and global trade patterns • Insights into Canada’s Great Depression, economic recessions, and recovery strategies • Real-time, forward-looking audio-visual content about Canada’s future economic priorities • Touch-screen games and quizzes that make the visit engaging for both adults and children There is also a souvenir shop inside the museum, offering currency-themed memorabilia and educational gifts. As a family with a young child, we appreciated that the museum was fully stroller-accessible, air-conditioned, and clean with well-organized pathways. I personally would have loved to spend an entire day exploring each exhibit in depth, but with a family schedule to balance, we made the most of a half-day visit. The Bank of Canada Museum goes far beyond just displaying money. It narrates the story of Canada’s economy, its global connections, and the vital role of trust, governance, and innovation in monetary systems. Whether you’re a history buff, finance professional, student, or curious visitor, this museum delivers a rich and rewarding experience.

I visited the Bank of Canada Museum as a traveller and really enjoyed it! The place is clean, well-organized, and free to visit. It’s fascinating to learn how money and the economy work in Canada through fun, interactive displays. Don’t miss the cool machine where you can design your own money — it’s so much fun! You can even email your creation to yourself as a souvenir. Highly recommended for all ages, especially if you enjoy creative and educational experiences

This FREE museum exceeded our expectations!! Not only were the staff friendly and helpful, the museum was curated so well! The interactive displays were so fun and very insightful! They had a little 5 minute show about the Bank of Canada which was a nice immersive experience. Overall, would definitely visit them again and really recommend to check out this museum if you’re in the area 💯

Laurier House National Historic Site, located at 335 Laurier Avenue East in Ottawa, Ontario, is a grand former home of two Canadian prime ministers. It was the residence of Sir Wilfrid Laurier and William Lyon Mackenzie King. The house offers self-guided tours and features period details for visitors to explore. Additionally, behind-the-scenes white-glove tours allow guests to inspect artifacts not on display.
Although I have lived in Ottawa for many years, I only visited this house for the first time recently. I am very glad that I finally came here as this museum is a true historic gem. The former private residence of former Prime Ministers Laurier and then Mackenzie King, this gorgeous home offers a fascinating look into the lives of two of Canada's most important leaders. It's definitely worth a visit if you are in the National Capital Region.

Laurier House is a beautifully preserved heritage home in Ottawa that offers a fascinating look into the lives of two former Canadian Prime Ministers. The rooms are thoughtfully maintained, and the exhibits provide great insight into Canada’s political history. It’s a peaceful and informative place to explore, perfect for anyone interested in history or architecture.

Reservations required for high tea, offered only in the summer season, in a fascinating historic location. Definitely worth doing. You then also get to wander the historic home of two former Prime Ministers with guides on each floor to tell you important historic highlights. One caution: parking can be tricky during university/business hours
Kathleen O — Google review
Laurier House, the residence of both Prime Ministers, Sir Wilfrid Laurier & William Lyon MacKenzie King, is a must-see for Canadian history enthusiasts. It offers a quieter and more affordable experience compared to other attractions in the capital city (see my previous review of the lacklustre and soulless Museum of History.) This house is filled with original historical objects from 1910 to 1950, and knowledgeable and friendly guides provide engaging information. Lots of fun facts and a great time capsule back to a transformational period of our times. (Tip: If you drive, park for free (2hrs) in an area at the end of Somerset, walk north through the lovely Strathcona Park and down Laurier Ave to the house.) Don't miss out on this hidden gem of Canadian history!

Staff here was amazing! This minor museum in Ottawa quickly became my all-time favorite. The staff is stationed on every floor to answer questions and is really good at informing you but also allowing you to experience the exhibits by yourself. There's so much detail and mystery in the house that you have to experience. It's also an affordable museum. Street parking only. Both buildings are wheelchair accessible, but it is a bit finicky.
Emma S — Google review
This is a fabulous place to visit, right in the heart of Sandy Hill. A beautiful house. There are guided tours (that it might be a good idea to book in advance), or you can wander around at your own pace and chat with the knowledgeable staff as you go. This was the option we took, and it worked very well. We heard, and told, lots of stories as we went, finding out all about two of the famous owners of this residence, Sir Wilfred Laurier and William Lyon Mackenzie King. There is also the option to book afternoon tea on the gorgeous veranda - definitely buy tickets for this ahead of time! - although we did not partake. While there is no parking on the site, there are several options for street parking nearby. Washrooms are available.
Joanne R — Google review
I hadn't been here since the 1980's and have no idea why I waited this long to go back. It's literally 8 minutes from my place! What a phenomenal historic home. Decided to take the guided tour and I highly recommend doing so. It's very much worth the extra couple of dollars. Our guide was outstanding! She was extremely knowledgeable and patient with our questions. This a hidden gem in Ottawa.

Came for high tea & the tour. Nice location and concept, but not well executed. I have been to many high teas and would not recommend this one. If you’re willing to spend this much money for high tea, you should go to Chateau Laurier instead. If not, you can go across the street to the company that caters this high tea and have lunch there.

First time taking the Original Haunted Walk tour. It did not disappoint. Monica was a fantastic guide! Great storyteller, perfect pace, and projected their voice so that the whole group could hear. Loved learning more about the city I now call home, some of it quite spine tingling! Looking forward to doing more of the tours and site events in the future.

Monica was an absolutely fantastic guide. She was an excellent story teller, was hospitable, and extremely witty. I saw her genuinely engage and connect with every single group on our tour which was very impressive. The pace was great, she made sure we were all safe navigating our route, and you could tell she really enjoyed her gig. Would love to take another tour with her! - See you at the dentist, Monica! 😊

Had an absolutely wonderful tour at the Beechwood Cemetery tour. Our tour guide Nart delivered the haunting stories with just the right mix of gravitas and charm. It's clear how much effort Haunted Walks puts into their research into the spooky side of history. It's also the only way you can see the beautiful cemetery grounds after dark, which is truly worthwhile.

A Chillingly Fun Night with Charlotte! We joined the Original Haunted Walk of Ottawa and had such a fantastic time! Our guide, Charlotte, was an incredible storyteller, calm, eerie, and captivating all at once. She began with chilling tales of old burial grounds before leading us through downtown Ottawa, pointing out haunted buildings and sharing fascinating stories of the paranormal. From creepy attic hauntings to spirits trapped “in between” because of their tragic endings, every stop gave us goosebumps and made us look at the city in a whole new way. It was the perfect mix of history, mystery, and spine-tingling fun. Highly recommend this tour, especially around halloween week.

Gorgeous location and facility. There are plenty of different spots to enjoy within the confines of the spa that you never feel overcrowded or bored. Amazing views, great staff. If I were to nitpick, the steam room was closed upon my visit and this was not disclosed prior to booking the experience. Easily one of the most attractive spas in Quebec. Looking forward to returning!

What a wonderful day. Every part of our experience was lovely. The spa is clean and well thought out. Many different types of saunas, freezing cold, cool, and warm pools, waterfalls, hammocks and swaying chairs as well as Adirondack chairs galore. Bring a book and relax for hours! The majority of the spaces are quiet or silent spots. So peaceful. The colors of the leaves in the fall were spectacular. The landscaping was beautiful.
Kiki H — Google review
Beautifully location and staff is amazing. Sauna rituals are amazing and always enjoy a cold plunge after. There is so much to discover there; multiple different temp pools, multiple different types of saunas, great locations to sit and enjoy a drink or snack and tons of other things to do as well. The food is always great as well. Book early if you want to include a treatment. Highly recommend the facial
Alison M — Google review
Our experience was very pleasant. Facilities were well-maintained and staff were considerate and responsive. The saunas were immaculate, and the ceremonies better than anticipated. We arrived on a quiet Sunday morning, and by the time we left (afternoon), the amount of attendees had quadrupled. Very busy, which led to some bathrooms not being kept up with quite as quickly. But these were minor incidents and eventually resolved. The hottest hot tub was packed, which was a bit unsavoury. We stayed clear and stuck to the saunas and cold plunges. It would seem to make more sense to not have differentiating warm pool temps to accommodate more people. It was clear everyone wanted the warmer temp waters. All in all, a great time. High probability of us returning in the future.
Harry T — Google review
Not to be dramatic, but the Nordik is my favourite spa in the world! The 15° cold plunge pool is my #1, the hourly sauna "rituals" are akin to group meditation, and I really enjoy the heated stone beds. The exfoliation areas are also 10/10! Clean, spacious, and lots of good options at many restaurants with different serving styles. The entire spa is excellent year round. Fall is probably my favourite. Enjoy 🙂
Shawna H — Google review
A perfect day of hot/cold/relax at this gorgeous spa! Facilities are immaculate (change room, relaxation rooms, pools, restaurants), food options and quality of food are delish! Little things like flavoured waters and teas are much appreciated :). The team at the front of the house and on the grounds are wonderful! Makes for a wonderful day…

Gorgeous Nordic spa surrounded by stunning nature—beautiful all year round! Sauna rituals are always an amazing experience, and as someone who knows real Siberian banya, I can say they get it right. Clean, well-maintained, and peaceful—a perfect place to unwind. Note: Massage experiences really depend on the therapist, and the Kalla treatment felt crowded and underwhelming, so it’s not worth it if you’re after something more personal and relaxing.

Rideau Canal, Locks 1 - 8 in Ottawa is a historic site with manually operated locks dating back to the 19th century. The canal is popular for kayaking, cycling tours, and camping. The Bytown Museum near the last lock tells fascinating stories about Ottawa's history and the construction of the canal supervised by Colonel John By. A Celtic cross commemorates the workers who lost their lives during its construction.
The Rideau Canal in Ottawa is an amazing place, especially if you love beautiful scenery and peaceful, picturesque views. I visited on a fairly cool day with very few people around, which only added to the charm. The fresh air and calm atmosphere made the walk special. The canal and its surroundings are full of interesting angles, practically begging to be photographed. For a photographer, it’s a true gem where you can capture stunning shots and find inspiration. Despite the weather, the day turned out to be very pleasant, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Denys S — Google review
Because of it's proximity to the Parliament Building and other historical sites, we sat and watched the Locks as they were opened for boats wanting to go through. We learned a lot about the Locks on during our tour on the Lady Dive amphibious bus including that the Locks are still opened by man power (whoa). The process does take quite a while to happen, but it's quite fascinating to watch indeed. If it's not a hot or cold day and you're not tired, you can probably sit through the entire process while chatting with a friend or enjoying your lunch.
Aida — Google review
A very pleasant walk along the canal and the locks. With views of grand buildings, wildlife, and the other side of the water, definitely check out this place.

Patrick V — Google review
The most wonderful place in Ottawa, without a doubt. During our time in Ottawa, we came here every day, spending hours watching the boats being lifted through the historic locks and winding down each evening at the foot of the canal. For those seeking a real highlight, catching a sunset here on a clear day is a must. But even from the bridge, the sunset has its own unique charm.

The Supreme Court of Canada, located in Ottawa, Ontario, is a significant legal institution and a popular tourist attraction. This stately judicial center offers free guided tours, showcasing its impressive Art Deco architecture and historical significance. The court serves as the country's highest court of appeal and features nine judges who convene for three sessions annually. Visitors can explore the building's courtrooms, art gallery, and library while admiring its period features.
Got a tour of this hallowed court on Canada Day 🇨🇦 you learn about the legal system and where the highest court comes in! SPOILER: at the very end and for only 5 - 10 % of the cases that request to be there. All of the tour guides are current law students who are kind of research aids to the Supreme Court…supremes ? Is that the term ? Judges I guess! JUSTICES! The washrooms are super fancy and I believe each judge has their own locker. For obvious reasons, you do have to go through an airport style security check, but it usually goes by pretty quick!

Having often heard about rulings and decisions from the Supreme Court of Canada in the news, it was great to finally visit in person. The building is impressive from the outside, with a dignified and stately presence. The interior is equally striking, elegant, thoughtfully designed, and truly fitting for the country’s highest court. A meaningful and memorable visit.

A beautiful place with amazing energy! I have to give a shoutout to the tour guides for their professionalism. I had very little time to explore Ottawa, but they helped me find my way, book tickets for other tours, and navigate through a big crowd of students. Now, sitting at the airport, I realize this city is not just about its stunning architecture but also about the kind and big-hearted people! (25 June 2024)

Went on a nice tour here. The law student (Elsa) who took us around was knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed hearing her talk about our legal system and showing us the various areas of the Supreme Court. Really interesting and glad we did it. And it’s free! When we first arrived earlier in the day there were two people outside who answered questions for us and then directed us inside. Everyone there was super friendly and helpful. I almost am not used to that level of treatment to be honest. In any event a super tour, great staff throughout. Glad we went.

The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is a fascinating attraction that showcases the history of Canadian agriculture and food production. It contains a variety of exhibits and programs that are designed to educate visitors about these topics. The farm on which the museum is located also offers a variety of tours, demonstrations, and events throughout the year.
A Hidden Gem for Families - Canada Agriculture and Food Museum We absolutely love the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum! It’s hands down our favourite spot to visit as a family, and it’s no surprise that it’s my kids’ top pick. My son, especially, has been asking to go every single day during the week, and we finally made it happen this past Sunday. And oh boy, it did not disappoint! The museum has something exciting happening every 30 minutes, so there’s never a dull moment. From hands-on activities to interactive exhibits, the kids were completely engaged all day long. One of the highlights of our visit was when my kids got to participate in a cooking class – they made maple cupcakes! Being able to bake something so Canadian and delicious really topped off the experience. The cupcakes were amazing (and yes, we ate them all)! Another memory that will stay with us forever was getting to meet the adorable baby cows and lambs. The little ones were just too cute, and it was heartwarming to see my kids learn about where their food comes from in such a fun and engaging way. If you're looking for a place to spark joy and learning in your little ones, the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is definitely worth a visit. It’s an enriching experience that brings our Canadian heritage to life, and it’s one we will be coming back to again and again. Highly recommend!

Location: pretty easy to find Parking: large parking lot, but $4 per hour Admission: it seemed a little pricey, but maybe on par with other museums of similar caliber Facilities: all the buildings and equipment are well taken care of and in good condition. Washrooms: the washrooms are clean and are in every building so there are no worries there. Staff: I was surprised how few staff there were around to ask about the animals. However, there were lots of staff running interactive programs geared towards children, so I’m sure children would give a five star rating. As adults, it was informative but entirely self-guided. Animals: the animals all seem very well taken care of and there was a massive variety in different breeds of farm animals. Overall: we were able to see and read literally everything in two hours, so I was quite surprised there wasn’t more to see and do. But it’s absolutely worth visiting at least once whether you’re an Ottawa native or a tourist.

🌾 Canada Agriculture and Food Museum Where barns meet science — a working farm right in the city. Real animals: cows, sheep, horses — you can actually smell the hay, not just see pictures of it. Exhibits connect the dots between farming, food, and modern life in a way that feels grounded. Kid-friendly without being kiddie — adults learn plenty too. Visitors tip: Go early in the day — animals are more active. Expect strong barn smells and flies — it’s authentic farm life, not sanitized. Bottom line: A refreshingly down-to-earth museum that trades glass cases for fresh air, muck boots, and a dose of reality.

We brought our toddler here and had a blast. We saw a lot of animals here: horse, sheep, goats, llamas, pigs, cattles, turkeys, rabbits, bees...The staff are very friendly and took the time to explain farming and animal care to visitors. The animals are well taken care of, and you just feel relaxed walking around here. There's a kitchen where they share recipes that you can easily follow (also treats if you are lucky!). If your child is really bored, there's a very nice playground on site surrounded by some picnic tables. Highly recommend for family with children.

This is the most beautiful place in the universe. I love to come here to write—I sit in the gardens, or by the pens outside, where it's quiet. The Rideau Canal National Historic Site is a captivating 202-kilometre waterway that links the Ottawa River to Lake Ontario, making it one of the most cherished attractions in Canada’s capital. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers a variety of activities year-round, from leisurely summer strolls and bike rides along its scenic trails to witnessing the impressive lock system operated by Parks Canada. In winter, it transforms into the world’s largest ice-skating rink, stretching an incredible 7.
This is an excellent spot for ice skating when it is open. It took me about 45 minutes each way to skate the 7.8 km trail from one end to the other. Bring your own skates or buy a used pair because the skate rentals cost $33. I went at a perfect time: -3 degree temperatures during the afternoon after a cold night. The ice surface can be choppy at times and snow might cover some parts, but the experience is incredible, in the backdrop of other Winterlude activities in Ottawa.

The Rideau Canal is one of North America’s most cherished treasures! It’s the best-preserved “slack water” canal from the 19th-century canal-building era, and it still operates along its original route with most of its charming structures intact. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it offers a wonderful opportunity to explore an iconic route. You’ll find informative boards that share the fascinating story of how and why the canal was built. This area is perfect for a leisurely stroll along the historic locks, with beautiful parklands surrounding you for enjoyable picnics and sightseeing—all without any entrance fee! Plus, there are washroom facilities available for your convenience. Come and discover the beauty of the Rideau Canal!

It has to get extremely cold for the canal to freeze over, and finally this year it did. The canal team provide lots of facilities for you to be able to put your skates on in the warmth. I had a 60 minute session with Farjana and it has been the best massage I've gotten so far. She asked me about my pains thoroughly and really took her time to relieve the muscle tension. She took really good care of me! I would really recommend her to anyone!

Five stars for Lillian, and Lillian alone! If I could give a million stars, I absolutely would. She's a true gem and one of the few people I’ll genuinely miss as I leave Ottawa. I only wish I had found her sooner; her hands are truly healing. Lillian pours her heart and soul into her work, and it shows in every session. I highly, highly, highly recommend her to anyone seeking real care and relief.

Great location. Appointment making and billing process is efficient. Brandon MacDonald ensured that he understood well what was needed; his questions were thorough. He used a mix of techniques to loosen the knots. I felt much better when he was done. I'd surely recommend him to anyone needing a restorative treatment.

Went there for a massage today, was my second massage ever and didn't know what to really expect, my massage was with Jamie and I can honestly say the whole experience was amazing. From walking into the building the homey vibe/atmosphere was really comforting and everything was explained great. When I went into the room with Jamie we had a brief chat about my massage needs which was great so she knew where to focus. During the entire massage she kept checking in anytime I made a sound or moved to make sure I was OK. As someone who normally doesn't like people touching me I felt super comfortable with Jamie and the massage was amazing to and I left there feeling alot better. Will definitely be returning to see Jamie and cannot recommend her enough.

I’ve tried many massage therapists in Ottawa, and no one even comes close to Marcus! He’s truly the best! He’s kind, professional, and really takes his time to make sure every detail is perfect. The calming music, the peaceful atmosphere, and his pressure/technique make it the ultimate relaxation experience. Every session feels like a reset for both body and mind! I highly, highly recommend him!

The Senate of Canada Building, located in Ottawa's old train station, offers guided tours that provide a fascinating insight into the history and functioning of the Canadian Government. The 30-45 minute tours are filled with interesting information, historical artifacts, and beautiful oil paintings. Visitors gain a deeper understanding of the Senate's role in shaping Canadian democracy and get to explore the hallowed halls of this significant space.
Kate is a great tour guide, the original building has been under construction since 2019, very informative and great education, cool education about our parliament and how the Senate works. Very interesting information. As a 11 generation, I found it very informative . The main room was awesome and the committee room is neat, Katie did a great job explaining it

A place worth visiting when you stay in Ottawa. This building is the Ottawa train station about one hundred years ago, and serves as a multifunctional building once the new train station has been built. It is now the Senate of Canada. The conference room is renovated according to the style of British senate. During the tour, you will visit the main conference room and the minor conference room. The guide will introduce the details of the building and their underlying meaning. It is an informative and interesting tour!

Shout out to Christian, our guide. We did all 3 buildings and he was the top 1 guide (the other 1 were amazing as well, but Christian stood out) The building is beautiful, a mix of modern and old. Really interesting visit.

The building of a former railway station is now used as a home for Senate. We did different tours that day, but this one was the best! We learned a lot about legislative system, building etc. Might be interesting to visit it again during the Senate session.
Olga Y — Google review
The building is the old train station which was neat to see and quite a grand building. I did a tour of the Senate as well which was informative and interesting because I didn't know anything about it before I went in. The tour is only about 30 minutes and I booked day of and was worth the stop just for the architecture.
Joe D — Google review
Took a tour here and it was quite interesting. Charolette was a good guide. You need to book in advance. No cost which is awesome. Nice way to learn a little more about our legislative system. The whole family got a lot out of it.
Jim H — Google review
I had the privilege of exploring the temporary Senate of Canada, currently housed in the beautifully restored Ottawa Union Station, located directly across from the Fairmont Château Laurier — just a short 300–400 metre walk from Parliament Hill. Booking in advance is highly recommended to secure an English-language tour, as slots fill up quickly. While the building may not be the original Senate chamber, the experience is equally immersive and dignified. The guided tour offers a deep dive into Canada’s legislative process, the role of Senators, and the architectural transformation of this historic train station into a temporary seat of governance. The interiors are breathtaking — from the classically arched ceilings and marble columns to the spacious main hall (formerly the train concourse), which now serves as a serene pre-tour area. The Senate chamber itself is grand, adorned with red carpet embedded with maple leaves, richly crafted wooden desks, and gilded emblems reflecting Canada’s provincial heritage. One of the most notable features is the original wooden door from the old Senate building, preserved and installed here as a symbolic gesture that maintains continuity with Canada’s historical roots. The tour is family-friendly and extremely photo-worthy. I was fortunate to capture several memorable moments with my family inside the Senate chamber and in front of the display of provincial and territorial flags, which offers a striking background for patriotic snapshots. Staff were courteous and allowed time for pictures at key locations. Tips for Visitors • Unlike the House of Commons, there is no souvenir shop at the Senate location, so plan to purchase memorabilia during your Parliament Hill visit. • Carry valid government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license) for entry. • Arrive a few minutes early; the entrance process is organized and secure. • If visiting with children, the stroller-friendly layout is appreciated. Overall Impression: The Senate tour is a must-do experience that combines history, politics, architecture, and culture. Despite being in a temporary location until the original building reopens in 2029, the site offers a compelling and dignified atmosphere. It’s a rare opportunity to stand inside the very room where federal laws are shaped — and to walk through a piece of Canadian history, beautifully preserved.

Visited with my family and got a guided tour from Camille(I hope thats how you spell it). She was well-informed and passionate about the history of Canada. She gave us insights to the paintings in the lobby(ask her about them!), and gave us recommendations about places to see around the city. It was an improvised tour since the chamber was being used, but she did a magnificent job nonetheless. The place itself was very beautiful and rich with history. I would recommend for anyone to check it out!

The Rideau Canal, a 125-mile waterway in Ottawa, is a historic and beloved attraction. Built between 1826 and 1832, it was designed to provide a secure supply route between Montreal and Kingston. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the canal played a crucial role in shaping Ottawa's status as Canada's capital city. Today, it remains heavily used for tourism and recreational activities such as walking along its clean paths or taking boat tours.
10/10 Canadian experience. Skate rentals, washrooms, lockers as well as food vendors are all on the ice. A bit crowded near the starting area but clears out quickly past the 1km mark. The ice quality is amazing considering the canal is over 7km.

You often hear that Ottawa is a boring city but I beg to differ. The Rideau Canal itself is very pleasant to walk along and the view the nice scenic surroundings. Of course during the peak of the winter cold months you get the chance to skate the longest skating rink in the world. It’s very nice in the summer with all the boats navigating the waterway and in the fall you get the beautiful fall colours. Not boring at all. 😎👍

The Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a 202 km-long waterway connecting the Ottawa River to Lake Ontario. In Ottawa, it meanders through the heart of the city, offering diverse and picturesque scenes year-round. From historic locks to vibrant pathways, the canal provides endless opportunities for photographers. Spring: Capture the thawing waters and blooming surroundings. Summer: Vibrant scenes with kayakers, cyclists, and pedestrians. Autumn: Fall foliage reflects beautifully on the canal's surface. Winter: Snow-covered paths and the bustling skateway provide unique winter shots

3* For historical reasons and location. Lots of history and significance here in the Ottawa section of the Rideau Canal. Most certainly not presented well. There is no visitor center. There are several plaques down by the water. There is also a water taxi to cross over to the Quebec side. $$ The surrounding buildings are magnificent and every different angle was appreciated. It is in the busier business/tourist area of the city so you have to park and walk. Or, come in from elsewhere another way. Everything about Ottawa is in the vicinity. It's gotta be a short stop on your trip through the town. Parks Canada 🇨🇦 does not seem to be keeping this area up or not being provided a budget for what should be a tourism hub. #PierrePoilievre #TraitorTrudeau

Rideau Canal is one of the most defining elements of the city of Ottawa. In many ways, Ottawa would probably not be the capital city of Canada if not of the canal. The canal was created as an alternative lifeline to the St-Lawrence seaway in order to ensure that commercial and military supplies would continue to flow freely in case the seaway was cut off. The canal is still heavily used, especially during the summer, albeit more for tourism. Take a walk along the canal in the downtown section. The perspectives are breathtaking!

These deep-fried dough pastries are beloved by locals and tourists alike, with delicious toppings like Nutella, banana slices, and cinnamon sugar adding to the experience. The welcoming atmosphere and homey aromas of freshly fried dough make it an unmissable snack stop.
I was very pleased with the quality of my order. 👍😋👏 The pistachio beavertails exceeded my expectations; I wasn't expecting such generous portions of whole pistachio spears and even pistachio crumbs. 🤤😋💯 I appreciated the abundance of pistachio spread and crushed pistachios. 😍😋😋 While the shop is just a street booth, so I can't comment on the atmosphere, I must mention that the smell of sewage nearby was unfortunately unpleasant. 🤢🤮😥

Nice tasting treat while passing through the market. We had tried the Oreo and it was pretty good. It would be a lot of sweet for one person - we split one. They don’t sell the savoury ones here like some other locations.

Canadian Tire Centre, home of the Ottawa Senators, is not just a hockey arena but also an entertainment complex that hosts concerts and various sporting events. The venue has seen the likes of the Stanley Cup and the Ice Hockey World Championship. With its massive size and four seating levels, it offers a decent atmosphere for concerts, events, and sports competitions. The well-maintained facility features bars, lounges, food courts, merchandise stores, and shops on-site.
Recently got a chance to watch an NHL game. Though we took a bus to reach the arena, the parking area is quite spacious. The entry process was smooth. We entered through Gate 3 and everything from queues, elevators, ticket checking, to security was efficiently managed. Each floor has plenty of food and drink options, as well as washrooms. Overall, a good experience. Just a note of caution, on game days, traffic can be a nightmare, so please check maps and local updates before heading out, or white driving.
Amartya G — Google review
Decent arena, showing its age. Quite a distance outside the city, reasonable parking price. Security is better than many arenas in the league. There is a discrepancy between what the website says in regards to bags (website says no bags at all) but in practice, bags seemed to be allowed within certain dimensions. Signage for food could be improved. Various foods were advertised around the concourse without any indication as to where these foods could be found (what sections these concessions were at). I was with my hangry girlfriend who wanted one of these foods and we walked around half the arena trying to find this particular food that was advertised and we couldn’t find it. Food and beer line ups were reasonable and quick. The egress after the game was a bit of a pain and took a lot of time. Traffic management could be improved for getting out.

Came to the home of the Ottawa Senators for their 2025-2026 Canadiens season home opener against the Predators. Great arena - it's a relatively new place, and what a crowd of fans! The arena is located in Kanata, which is west of Ottawa, so might help to have a car if you're planning a visit, like we were, from out of town. Overall, a great place to watch hockey and looking forward to a return trip. Recommended!
Shingo I — Google review
For being 30 years old, this arena is pretty great. The updates and amenities mean this is a really fun spot to watch a game or go to a concert. Parking lots are another story and the fact they still have not figured out how to get people out in reasonable time is hard to believe. That’s the reason for the 4-star review.
Chris V — Google review
Excellent arena ... over the years, I must have been there 20 to 30 times for hockey games, conerts and other shows. This time it was Cirque de Soleil and their OVO spectacle, and every part of that experience was excellent. The parking was easy, the event was well staffed and the food/drinks were exceptional. The facility is well managed and maintained. The process of hosting visitors is well organized, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I remember when this place first opened as The Palladium in 1996, then as the name changed, how the letters on the sign were auctioned off. Living in Kanata, this stadium is both practical and sufficient, plus it's the home of our Ottawa Sens.
Sam J — Google review
The Bryan Adams concert was absolutely amazing — such a great show! However, the experience was disappointing when it came to the disabled seating organizers. I called weeks in advance to ask for information and guidance on what to expect and how to prepare for the concert seating, but no one ever returned my calls or voicemails. Better communication and support for guests with accessibility needs would make the experience much smoother.

Joanne at guest services was an angel and sent Spartacat to our section because we were desperate for a photo on our Canadian hockey tour! Shari, our usher was so helpful in telling us where to get first game certificates and helping us with Spartacat. The whole staff at the arena was so kind and helpful. Entry to the venue was so easy, it was great we could be inside right away and hit the store before the game. Even leaving, staff was so great to find us the best location to be picked up at. Food was reasonably priced for a hockey venue and the crowd was so kind and lovely to even the visiting team and their fans. They have a fanboni and a band?! 10/10 would hockey here again.

The Canadian Children's Museum is a vibrant and interactive space designed to ignite the imaginations of young explorers. Nestled within the Canadian Museum of History, this delightful museum offers an array of hands-on exhibits that invite children to engage with history, culture, and art through colorful displays, costumes, toys, and games. Families can embark on a global adventure as kids receive passports to stamp while they learn about different cultures in an immersive environment.
I Must Say With all the mixed reviews....I didn't want to get to excited. But my child had a blast! I can't believe we don't have one close by! Will highly recommend on a trip. We went on a early weekday - thinking that the place would be mostly empty. From events to school visits , it actually still wasn't overwhelming. We adults had a ton of fun as well. I love the layout of this mini village and world collide. From the pizzeria to the markets to the " ships " to the chess to the craft centre or mini theatre...just amazing! Love the cultural aspects. Love that there were hand sanitizing stations , though not all were filled. So much to learn and also implement though play! We easily could've stayed hours( more than we already did😅). Despite , the challenges of the parking - due to the events. It would be great if they had a spill over or alternative parking spaces in case. We had a few hiccups upon arrival - but the staff were amazing! P.s At the time, we didn't find " broken" items from other review. So perhaps they have now been fixed.

Awesome world tour to discover countries, cultures while doing a series of activities. Build a paper puppet in Indonesia, dig out archeological artefacts in Egypt, fold origami souvenirs in Japan, and much more! Build a log cabin or place shingles on a roof, build a brick wall, go fishing on a boat, play with wooden trains and Duplos, activities are endless. All this with a thematic scavenger hunt. Staff is amazing with children. Lots of cleaning wipes. We spent more than 3 hours !

I thought they had redone it in recent years. It seems old and similar to when I was a kid. It kept my toddler relatively entertained but I felt it could be better. The fruits, vegetables were oddly heavy and shopping carts would work better for toddlers. I liked the available crafts.

My kids loved their experience at the Canadian Children's Museum and I'd definitely recommend it for anyone with kids. However, I was a bit disappointed to see that it wasn't that big! I arrived late, almost an hour and a half before closure, and got the tickets to check in. Luckily for us, my kids enjoyed their 1+ hr of fun activities and various stations. However, I don't think they could do more than 1.5 hours at such a small Museum! It was a work day that we had taken off to visit Ottawa (from the GTA), so it wasn't very crowded. I wonder how the place would look like with more kids+adults. Overall, the place is worth visiting (atleast once)!

The Dominion Arboretum, established in 1889, is Canada's oldest arboretum spanning 64 acres of rolling land and showcasing an extensive collection of 10,000 plants including 4,000 species. With its diverse landscape featuring 1,000 tree species and several microclimates, it offers fantastic panoramic views. This picturesque park is a favorite among photographers and nature enthusiasts alike.
As a visitor to Ottawa who lives in a rural community, I absolutely loved this gorgeous Arboretum filled with such wonders of Mother Nature. A must visit on a sunny day so you can wander and be curious about the goodness of green. Cheers, Spicy Jan

Lovely quiet and tranquil green space. Lots of benches in different spots to sit and have a quiet moment under trees, beside the water or soaking in the sun. Trails are flat, very easy to navigate on foot or bike and take you alongside the Rideau Canal. Perfect place for a reset after spending a busy day in the city. So peaceful.
Michelle H — Google review
Dominion Arboretum is truly one of Ottawa’s most beautiful and peaceful places to spend time outdoors. It’s located near Dow’s Lake, and it’s amazing how calm and green it feels even though it’s right in the city. The park is full of huge, old trees and a wide variety of plants from all over the world — every visit feels a little different depending on the season. In spring, the blossoms are gorgeous, while in fall, the colorful leaves make it feel like you’ve stepped into a painting. There are plenty of open areas for picnics or just laying on the grass with a book, and the walking paths are great for a relaxed stroll or a quiet moment by the water. You can also spot lots of birds and small wildlife if you take your time. It’s a popular place for photography and nature walks, yet it never feels overcrowded. Whether you come for a morning walk, a sunset view over Dow’s Lake, or just some peace and quiet, the Arboretum always delivers. It’s one of those places that makes you forget you’re still in the city. If you love nature, calm spaces, and beautiful scenery, Dominion Arboretum is absolutely worth a visit.

Dominion Arboretum – A Timeless Oasis in the Heart of Ottawa The Dominion Arboretum is easily one of Ottawa’s most beautiful and underrated treasures—and one of my personal favourite places in the city. Nestled in a convenient, central location, it offers a peaceful escape from the busyness of urban life without ever having to leave town. What makes the Arboretum truly special is its year-round beauty. In spring, it bursts to life with blossoms, budding trees, and vibrant new growth. In fall, it transforms into a spectacular display of colour, with golden leaves and rich reds painting every path. Even in summer and winter, it holds a quiet charm, whether you’re picnicking by the water or walking along the snow-dusted trails. The variety of plants and trees grown here is impressive—it’s like a living museum of horticulture. Whether you’re a plant enthusiast or just someone looking for a peaceful place to think, walk, or relax, the Arboretum has something to offer. It’s not just a park; it’s a place to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with nature, right in the heart of Ottawa. Highly recommended for locals and visitors alike.

Dows Lake Pavilion is a charming lakeside dining destination that showcases seasonally inspired cuisine, featuring delectable steak and seafood options. For those looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature, this venue offers rentals for sunset paddles on the lake, allowing visitors to experience Ottawa's stunning evening skies from a unique vantage point.
We came early in the afternoon. No reservations needed or wait in line. For group rent, only 1 ID 💳(not including healthcard) was taken and we all paid together. The rent prices are per hour + taxes. They accept both card and cash. We wanted to try the pedal boat but the staff recommended that the boats were currently not at their best. We decided to rent a tandem kayaks and a solo kayak. 🛶 We signed a waiver📃, given a life vest each and then shown to our kayaks in a matter of minutes. No tutorial given, we just paddled away. 🙉😭👌🏼 _________ Despite the hot weather🌤☀️, there was breeze once you got on the water. Very peaceful activity. Kayaking was easier than expected but did not expect to get very wet 😭💦💦 Maybe because it was our first time, our legs were wet from the occasional splashing. Definitely plan extra clothes and proper foot wear. 👖👙👟

Review is related to kayak/canoe rentals The process of renting a kayak was very quick and no reservations were required. A $20 and an ID card are required as a deposit. Prices for the rentals match those on the website, and are paid at the conclusion of your paddling. We intended to use canoes but they had mentioned that due to weather conditions they were unavailable. However, you can see by the pictures the water was very calm. Make sure to take a peek in your kayak before entering as twice we were almost seated in a kayak that had been flooded with water at the bottom. The staff was very friendly and helped find a better kayak. Overall it hits the goal of offering a way to paddle out on the water in the city. Just make sure to call in to confirm the equipment you want is available.

15 bucks to launch a boat, another 15 bucks to take it back out of the water. Then you are completely on your own to find a place to park with a trailer. A really nice day trip from Dows to the Chateau Laurier but just not worth the costs. Unfortunate...

Great experience kayaking. We didn’t sign the waiver online but it did not take us long before we were ready to go. That’s because they have alot of canoes, kayaks and boats to rent. This is a very good place for a company get together. The buffet provided here is healthy and tasty. We rented the tables just facing the window. So the view is very nice. After lunch, I went to enjoy the tulips since it's just the best season.

I attended the Dow's Lake Pavilion for a conference. The facility is suited our needs, many tables of comfortable chairs. There was a projector and screen to work very well. Just be cautious if it's a bright day, makes it harder to see the projector screen. Lago Grill provided breakfast and lunch, all of which was very delicious. Would recommend this venue for a smaller gathering, function or conference.

The Canadian Tulip Festival is a major annual event in Ottawa, taking place over two weeks in mid-May. The city comes alive with millions of tulips blooming as part of a gift from the Netherlands to Canada for sheltering the Dutch royal family during World War II. Visitors can enjoy the blooms along a 15km Tulip Route, explore floral design shows, and attend concerts and craft shows at Major's Hill Park.
A truly mesmerizing experience. The festival has just begun ans many of the tulips are already in full bloom. This is truly a place you dont want to miss. Along with the flowers, there are several booths serving a variety of foods, a play area for kids with multiple restrooms across various areas. Overall, a must visit spot!

We recently visited the Canadian Tulip Festival at Commissioners Park in Ottawa, and it was a lovely experience overall! The park was filled with a beautiful variety of tulips in full bloom—vibrant colors, unique patterns, and neatly arranged flower beds that made for some great photo opportunities. That said, about 10% of the tulips hadn’t bloomed yet, which was a little noticeable in a few sections. It didn’t take away too much from the overall beauty, but if you’re hoping to catch all the tulips at their peak, it’s worth keeping bloom timing in mind. The park was quite crowded when we went, especially around the more popular flower beds, but the atmosphere was lively and full of positive energy. We enjoyed walking the Big Bug Boardwalk, checking out the Dutch Pavilion, and learning about the history behind the festival. It’s a great family-friendly event, and the lakeside setting makes it even more scenic. I’d definitely recommend visiting—it’s one of the best ways to welcome spring in Ottawa!

This was my first time at the Ottawa Tulip Festival and despite the rain and cooler temperatures that long weekend, we enjoyed our time there and also caught the fireworks and drone show in the evening. The only downside was the parking because of how busy it was and construction areas that limited some of the street parking that were closer to walk. Try to bring lawn chairs and get a good spot for the drone show early as the big trees can hinder the view if you come too late.
Veedeeta B — Google review
The Tulip Festival is a stunning experience with thousands of colorful blooms spread across beautiful gardens. The displays are well organized, perfect for photos, and there’s plenty of space to walk and enjoy the scenery. The historical connection to Canada’s bond with the Netherlands adds meaning to the visit. Family-friendly, peaceful, and a great way to welcome spring. A must-see if you’re in Ottawa during tulip season!

The 2025 Ottawa Tulip Festival (May 10–20) was a fantastic experience! Beautifully planned and well-executed, with vibrant displays throughout the city. The event was fully accessible, with plenty of parking and convenient commuting options via transit or bike. It’s a short-lived magic—blooms only last a couple of weeks—so it’s worth making time to catch it while it’s on. A true spring highlight in Ottawa!

The Tulip Festival 2025 Wonderful. Awesome 👌. There are certain things that can not be explained. It can only get experienced! At least, one visit is required to understand and experience nature's gift.

A million tulips turning Ottawa into a rainbow—what’s not to love? Commissioners Park was bursting with color, history, and happy strangers swapping tulip theories. The Dutch friendship story makes it extra special, and yes, my camera roll is now 90% flowers. Come for the petals, stay for the beaver tails. 🌷
G J — Google review
Not what I had in mind. I was expecting huge tulip fields, but it turned out to be more of a garden setup. I’d always heard, “If you’re in Ottawa, you have to go to the Tulip Festival,” but honestly—it was just okay. Not worth a detour. That said, the view of the lake? Absolutely loved it. That was the highlight for me.

The Ottawa Art Gallery, located just a few minutes' walk from Major Hill and Byward Market, showcases an impressive collection of Canadian art, including paintings, sculptures, and photography. Established in 1988 as the Gallery at Arts Court, it has since evolved into a prominent contemporary art venue. The gallery offers free admission and features a diverse range of exhibitions and programs throughout the year.
It's free!!! How many places can you see group of seven paintings for free? This is a gorgeous property and would be stunning for a wedding reception. The galleries are small but well curated. The cafe, Jackson, run by le Germain hotel is amazing. And their annual art auction funds their operation, and is coming up shortly. Details in the photos.

Funny .., my son has lived in Ottawa almost two years and never visited the OAG. We were visiting for a long weekend and I saw on Instagram it was a great place to visit while in Ottawa. So away we went. I loved the very modern and trendy cafe, the exhibits were stunning and the gift shop superb. Everyone was clearly happy about being part of this community as they were super friendly and appreciative of the visit. I can't wait to return and give the bakery items and lattes a try. Cheers, Spicy Jan

Perfect for a “what should we do today?” type spontaneous visit. The gallery is on multiple floors with multiple exhibition spaces with different showings and themes. There’s a cafe just by the right off the main street entrance that holds monthly(?) Draw and Sip events. Also a huge fan of the architectural style and how different elements were blended throughout the building (there are so many nice staircases!)

Dow's Lake is an artificial lake featuring a charming pavilion that offers boat rentals and hosts a stunning tulip display in spring, as well as frozen ice activities during winter. It's an ideal spot for a romantic proposal with its picturesque waterfront setting. Visitors can take advantage of the pleasant fall weather by renting kayaks or canoes to explore the serene waters. Additionally, there are several restaurants around the Dows Lake Pavilion with scenic waterfront views, perfect for a memorable dining experience.
Dow’s Lake is one of my favorite spots in Ottawa—peaceful, scenic, and full of life depending on the season. Whether you’re there to walk, paddle, picnic, or just unwind, it’s a place that offers something for everyone. I visited during spring, and the timing couldn’t have been better. The trees were blooming, the air was fresh, and the views of the lake reflecting the sky were simply stunning. It’s also where Commissioners Park is located, so during the Tulip Festival, it transforms into a sea of color with hundreds of thousands of tulips lining the shore. It’s honestly magical. What I love most is how the lake brings people together. You’ll see families out for a walk, friends kayaking, couples relaxing on benches, and even people reading or journaling by the water. There’s a calmness to the place, but at the same time, it feels alive. There are boat and kayak rentals in the warmer months, and in the winter, when everything freezes, the canal nearby becomes part of the famous skating trail. The versatility of this area is amazing—it’s just as enjoyable in the snow as it is in the sunshine. If you’re visiting Ottawa or even if you live here, Dow’s Lake is a gem you shouldn’t miss. Bring a camera, a coffee, and just enjoy the moment. It’s a place that helps you slow down and appreciate the simple joys of being outside.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5/5 — Amazing experience! Had such a great time on the bike tour with Escape Bicycle Tours and Rentals last Saturday! It was my first time visiting Ottawa, and this tour was such a fun and easy way to get to know the city. The route was super well planned — we got to see lots of cool and scenic spots without feeling rushed. Our guide, Alison, was amazing! She explained everything so clearly and made each stop really interesting. I don’t usually ride bikes, but the whole tour was very manageable and comfortable — the two hours flew by! Highly recommend this tour, especially if you’re new to Ottawa or just want a relaxed and fun way to explore the city.

We hired the ebikes for 4 hrs and had a great experience exploring Ottawa. We downloaded the (provided) gpx file onto a garmin so we could follow the route easily (we're regular cyclists). We did the Experimental farm loop then crossed Champlain bridge and did some lovely bike lanes around Gatineau. We still had time to put in a loop from the Cathedral to Rideau Halll and back down the Rideau canal. The cycle lanes were really good with very few cars on the roads at the Experimental farm area. We loved the Marin ebikes, they were good quality and had loads of power. We did just over 26 miles and saw lots of the sights of Ottawa. Highly recommended.

We ended up doing the Ottawa River loop into Gatineau and the Rideau Canal loop (~20.5 miles total) in a little over 3 hours with stops for food and photos. The Ottawa area has amazing bike lane and bike path infrastructure to ride around in!

My family and I took Lady Dive's double decker bus tour around Ottawa and loved the experience! Being our first time on a double decker bus, we of course HAD to sit on the upper deck, and the breeze on a 94 degree day....34.4 in Celcius....felt glorious. The tour guide did a fantastic job pointing out landmarks in both English and French, and the views were awesome. (We included some pictures for a taste :) So glad we booked this tour!

We bought the tickets online. We chose premium seats because we both have movement sickness so we secured front seats to be able to see upfront. These tickets are 20CAD extra. The tour is guided and the guide is very friendly and makes jokes. We had a great tour. The experience with the amphibious vehicle was interesting. Was like an old boat which you could drive. But worth the way, because you also go to Quebec for a bit then you dive. We enjoyed our ride.

The tour guide was really good! She gave us a lot of useful information and always found a way to make a joke here and there. The driver was also very nice. The whole experience to go with an amphibian bus is really nice! The only downside, for which I am giving it just 3 stars, is the fact that the bus is really old and in dire need of renovation. The smell of gasoline on the entire trip took a bit from the pleasure of the ride. I understand they also have a new bus, I strongly recommend you take that one!

1- It was easy to book online and they allow you to modify days prior to booked date. 2- Plenty of paid parking around the pick up area, we paid $21 for parking all day. 3- The tour is an experience not to miss and be prepared to record the moment the bus enters the Ottawa River, very enjoyable 4- We lined up at the pick up point one hour prior to but we didn’t have to since the tour was booked in our name as long as you arrive on time 5- Alexy the tour guide was very friendly, informative and helpful. Don’t forget to volunteer tip as a show of appreciation 6- The tour starts in Ottawa Ontario then crosses the Ottawa River to Gatineau Quebec and then enter the water from the Quebec side. 7- I would do it again on my next visit to Ottawa

A to do list in my hometown. Nice to be a tourist sometimes. Can be booked online but best to go to their stall on Spark Street for the earlier departures and get a sense of how things work. Recommend paying that $5 extra for premium seats as it is worth it to get up front and on the left side so your view is not blocked by the tour guide. A recommendation on a warm sunny day.

Prince of Wales Falls, also known as Hogs Back Falls, is a beautiful set of urban waterfalls located in Ottawa. These falls are downstream from a tranquil lake and city park, offering a picturesque setting for visitors to enjoy. The area features walking and biking paths that allow for exploration along the Rideau River, providing opportunities for stunning photos in a less crowded part of Ottawa. While the rocks around the falls are fenced off for safety reasons, there is ample parking available at the park.
What a stunning set of falls. Stopped here on our way through ottawa. So glad we did. The power of the water was so exciting to see. They seem to have most of the rocks around the bottom fenced off, I understand why... but it did kind of sucks not to be able to get closes. There's lots of parking at the park and there is a beautiful loop you can do that takes you through a "forest" then to the Lookout point. The trail is under 2km and takes about 20 minutes. A great place to check out if in the area.

We visited the falls in the evening, and the view was absolutely breathtaking. As the golden hour light reflected off the cascading water, the whole area took on a magical glow that made the experience feel surreal. The sound of the rushing water combined with the peaceful surroundings created the perfect atmosphere to unwind and reconnect with nature. There was ample parking available, so we had no trouble finding a spot. The park is well-maintained and offers a number of picnic areas, making it a great place for families, couples, or anyone looking to spend quality time outdoors. We noticed several groups enjoying their meals while kids played nearby, adding a lively yet relaxed energy to the setting. The falls are connected to a dam, and the area around the dam was especially serene. It’s the kind of place where you could sit for hours just watching the water flow and listening to the natural sounds. There are also walking paths nearby if you want to explore the area more. Overall, it’s a hidden gem that deserves more attention. If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat with stunning views, this spot is a must-add to your list of adventures in and around Ottawa. I would recommend this fall. Enjoy friends

I know them by Hog’s Back falls yet here on google and commonly referred to as Prince of Wales Falls. Do not get confused with the name, it is the same site. Regardless of the name, this is a must-visit site in Ottawa if you are looking for a little idyllic oasis of serenity within the city just across from Mooney’s Bay beach in tbe direction of Massey park. You can walk around the falls and cross the lookout bridge, have a grounding moment while enjoying the flow and sound of water. The Hog’s Back park itself is a nice place for walking and for picnic.

Some one caught a big size fish when we were there. Also, I found Goldmoss here which was a pretty interesting experience. It is a new plant specie for me :)
