Nestled in the heart of Montpellier, Microbrasserie La Barbote stands as a testament to the city's vibrant craft beer culture. This trendy brewpub, which has been delighting locals and visitors alike for four years, features an inviting industrial lounge atmosphere where you can catch a glimpse of the brewing process right from the entrance. Founded by three friends—Jean, Remi, and Edouard—this establishment has quickly become a beloved spot for those seeking quality brews.
Best place to enjoy beer in Montpellier. Staff are knowledgeable and brew team are talented.

Really liked it in here... Brewkit on display, alternative vibe, the beers were some of the most interesting I had in Montpellier and overall it was a very good experience.
Gazza P — Google review
What a gem! Brilliant selection of brews including IPA, Porters and lagers brewed on the premises. Boho atmosphere, incredible smoking room downstairs, friendly knowledgeable staff who brew the stuff. Situated in an up and coming part of Montpellier. Cannot recommend enough.

Nestled just a stone's throw from the Philippides Stadium, Couleurs de Bières offers a unique experience for true beer enthusiasts. This hidden gem, located near the former Saint-Roch Clinic, may not be the flashiest bar in town, but it certainly has its charm. With an impressive selection of over 800 beers that have been curated since its inception 14 years ago, this establishment caters to both seasoned connoisseurs and curious newcomers alike.
Perfect place to be for the loving beer. The waitress are sweet and nice. I had the luck to listen Brasilian music. So good

Amazing beers and amazing staff! Cheers 🍻
Leonardo F — Google review
Unfortunately way too expensive for what it is so we stopped going there. A pint of chouffe is way cheaper in the city center and the bottled beers for take out you can get cheaper in other beer shops in the city or even supermarkets. But people are usually nice if they don't keep being busy talking with their favorite people...
Sarah — Google review
Beer! So much beer! Oh, man they have a lot of beer (over 400 different bottled and, by french measures, quite a few taps). There's beer everywhere! It's like that scene from Hitchcock's The Birds except it's beer instead of birds. And not scary. Unless you're scared of beer. Then I wouldn't recommend it. Maybe a nice café or something would suit you better?
Nisse N — Google review
Here I had the most expensive beer in my whole life. It was about 12,60 euros for a beer. Despite this, the beer was really great.
Tomás F — Google review
Great beer choice & very friendly staff. Gets crowded early, so don't be later than 19h, especially during summer time. Few tables outside, but between two busy roads.

Great find on the outskirts of Montpellier. A craft beer pub & staff who know what they are talking about, albeit in French lol. Knowledge of the language helpful but definitely not essential. Good knowledge of excellent beer also helpful but staff will help you 😁

Brewpub
Hopulus Brewpub is located in a charming alley near Jean Jaures square. This establishment exudes an elegant and trendy atmosphere, with its stainless steel and stone decor. It captivates patrons not only with its chic ambiance but also with its exceptional flavors. The owner and brewer, Jean Philippe Malle, continuously introduces new creations that showcase his remarkable ability to achieve balance in every beer style. His partner Marc is equally knowledgeable and always ready to recommend one of their delightful concoctions.
Super friendly bartenders and dudes managing the place. Loved the craft beer choices/ recommendations and the aged comte 😋 Some small tables and chairs on a charming street, and the interior is equally beautiful. Happy hour from 4-7pm!

Loved it, we were looking for a place to rest and have a snack and a drink and were surprised by this. Very nice ambience, excellent food and drinks
Macarena J — Google review
Probably my favourite brewpub in the whole of Montpellier. The vibe is excellent. Staff are extremely friendly and the owner is a legend. I will be returning. The beers and happy hour are very fair prices!
Lauren S — Google review
In the narrow lanes of the old town this is a good find. They make the beer on site (the fermenter / serving tanks behind the bar, brewkit I assume is downstairs) and they're ok to decent. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere.
Gazza P — Google review
If I lived in Montpellier I think I’d spend a lot of time here. Superb beer, friendly atmosphere (was great to chat to the co-founder and try different beers), games and a cafe/bar vibe in stunning surroundings. Lovely place.
Nic R — Google review
On a quiet afternoon this is a top spot. When the crowd picks up it can be quite tight inside. Beer selection is good and the quality is obvious in the taste. Bar staff are excellent with tasters and quick and helpful service. Quite dark inside the vaulted stone ceiling, best free wifi we could find all afternoon.
Paul W — Google review
What a cool, friendly place! Beers taste amazing, the staff are just the friendliest! Inside is really cool! They cater to non beer drinkers as well. A must visit !
Steve M — Google review
That was our first time in the Hopulus brewpub, we were passing by and saw the nice simplistic deco with the stone walls and the arches so went in only to discover this cozy little brewpub where the owner brews his own beer and we’ve tasted all of them and they’re delicious especially the triple ambrée à la fève de tonka. Not to forget that the cheese and saussices we had were excellent as well. The staff and the owner are also very welcoming! Recommended for beer lovers

Located in the Boutonnet district, the Drapeau Rouge beer hall exudes a cozy neighborhood vibe. Situated on the charming Place Krasucki, it rivals even the quaintest Parisian squares with its added bonus of abundant sunshine. This establishment prides itself on being a true craft venue, offering a rotating selection of 11 draft beers from both regional and international artisanal breweries. The range is impressive, catering to those who enjoy heavier brews.
Sureau- Drapeau rouge is a light beer brewed on site. Refreshing taste of elderflower. Nice beer. A beer tasting festival is on at Drapeau Rouge mid-September. I just enjoyed the afternoon’s sunshine in the square where tables are laid for customers. And that’s well worth five stars.
Gabrielle H — Google review
Really cool bar with a decent selection of yummy craft beers. The burgers were lacking the ingredients from the images in the Google pictures and the pommes frites were more like pommes nibs. We left still hungry. It was also cold! But good vibes all around, people studying and playing chess.

Great place to stop by for a beer. There's a big terrace on a cosy street, and a lot of space inside too. They brew their own beer and have a selection of other beers too. The staff is very friendly and are very capable in guiding you to your soon to be favourite beer.

Stone built place just into the old lanes of the ancient town which makes it's own beer out the back. Only one was available on my visit but other beers from local brewers made to the numbers nicely. Good staff, relaxed feel, definitely worth a visit.

Best beer bar in Montpellier. Staff is friendly and efficient. Ambiance is relaxing and feels like Northern California pub with homemade beer and specials from local breweries. The Broc Café Montpellier is a popular bar in the city with a wide selection of music, from jazz and ska to latin and cumbia. It's also home to occasional concerts, making it a great place to enjoy some music while you drink.
Been there 2 times during our travel. Amazing service, you can pay online when you are finished. Both food and drinks deserve the try. We took beef tatatki and fish & chips. During happy hours drink prices are even cheaper. It’s being pretty crowded so might be noisy. Our fav bar in Montpellier so far.

Been a few times. Very popular and welcoming cafe just opposite of the botanical garden. Food was pretty standard. Some dishes were quite trendy. They had some special drinks. The overall experience was elevated by the beautiful view.

beautiful cafe with great music, food, drinks and a wonderful staff! The beef tartare was delicious
Nathaly M — Google review
Broc Café is great! I like the food, the beer and the atmosphere. It is always packed with people (and so it is loud) but somehow they still find a couple more places for you. Even with so many people, drinks and food arrive quickly. I think they really figured out how to run a bar with this big a capacity. The waiters, bartenders, cooks work really hard, yet everyone is friendly and attentive. Respect! For context: I spent about two weeks in Montpellier on a business trip. After I discovered this place, I made it part of my daily routine to come here and at least have a beer in the evening. I sampled much of their menu outside of appetizers and desserts. Found everything tasty! Will for sure come here again when I'm in Montpellier.
Tobias B — Google review
Lively sidewalk place with a cafe-bistro menu, various beers and cocktails at an attractive price point. We never got inside so can't tell what's there but the sidewalk section easily seats 75 people. Efficient waiters keep the experience running at a decent pace. Menu is simple burgers and few modernist takes on poke bowl, tartar etc little fish though so craving seafood go elsewhere. Up for very casual, social cafe eating for reasonable money, come here
Rune S — Google review

The Shakespeare is a charming British pub located in Montpellier, housed in a historic 14th-century building. It's a popular spot among students and offers great deals on alcoholic drinks and cocktails. The pub features traditional ales and lagers, as well as hosting trivia nights and providing space for dart enthusiasts. With its cozy atmosphere, it's known for its warm welcome and international crowd. The decor resembles a traditional English pub, with a vaulted stone ceiling typical of medieval buildings in the area.
Had a super evening here after coming across the bar by chance. Bar staff were really great and had a great time chatting and joking with them. Beer is great if a little cold. (It was explained by the English barman that they couldn't serve it any warmer because of local tastes) and the food platter was excellent. Highly recommended. Will definitely be going back when we next visit Montpelier.

It's a regular pub, nothing special in my opinion. I still give 4 stars for the rapid and nice service. The menus should be renewed soonish, because most of the beers are crossed out and not available anymore. So the best is, if you just asked, what's offered at the moment ☺️

Many cities boast a thriving craft beer scene, typically situated in a spacious warehouse located near industrial areas or docks on the outskirts of town, often necessitating a taxi ride to reach. However, Le Réservoir breaks away from this conventional mold. Positioned on the fringes of the city, even an Uber driver piloting an eye-catching lipstick-red Tesla had no knowledge of its existence.
Amazing place to try beers from three breweries! Very kid friendly. I’m on a mission to add more Google data about baby changing table availability (do better Google, it’s 2025 🙂‍↕️). They did have a changing table in the handicap stall! Open throughout the afternoon, which is great.

What a great place this is! Totally worth the trek out there on the tram / bus then a quick walk. Three breweries live here and make very different beer ranges, some normal and some sour, with the huge list on tap there's definitely one for anyone! The bar staff were really friendly and helpful, good to great beers, 5 glass taster sets and a big outside area for when it's warm, if you're in Montpellier and like craft beer then you have to come here.
Gazza P — Google review
A lots of craft beer taps (20!!!) which you will be orientated by the lovely staff if you don’t know what to chose! Having the opportunity to sit inside or outside on the big terrace is definitely a plus for the afterwork beer in summer! Shout out to Rémi and Elliot for being so awesome ;-)

An unintentional visit on a Saturday night while looking for a place to have some food with friends and we actually stumbled into the wrong restaurant..long story, anyway... and yes we were pleasantly surprised by the selection of foods and wines. We picked a bottle (2) of the Pic saint-loup red and it was a very good choice. The food was tasty and serving sizes were quite large and the staff were very friendly and cordial. A fun place to enjoy a drink with friends at the sport bar section and there is a restaurant inside apparently 😊

Le Couperet is a charming restaurant that offers generous portions of smoked meat in a warm and rustic setting with exposed stone walls and reclaimed wood furniture. It's described as a French take on an American smokehouse, making it a must-visit for meat lovers. The atmosphere is welcoming and convivial, with friendly staff and great music.
This is a must go if you love all things meat. It was absolutely delicious and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Ketchup was mind blowing, beans were incredible and the meat was melt in the mouth. Special mention to Peter the chef who took the time to speak to us and made us feel really welcome. The music was great too!

Les BerThoM Montpellier is a great bar with amazing staff and an impressive selection of drinks. It's the perfect place to have a few drinks with friends and relax after a busy day.
Visited in September 2024. We were 7 people and sat inside. The beer selection was great and the staff was nice and helpful. There are QR codes on the tables to access the menus and you can even get table service, which I'm not so used to for a beer bar. Everything was properly served, every beer came with its own specific coaster and glass. It took a bit of time to get the order, but that makes sense since the place was quite busy.

Great place for beer. Excellent service (we had Hillary, according to the receipt) and for a beer-fan as myself, it's a nice touch that they have separate glasses and coasters for all the breweries they have. So when you order a certain beer, you get matching glass and coaster. And on your next order, the matching continues... :-) Recomended! :-)
John E — Google review
I really love this place! The service is simply amazing, attentive and quick. The beer selection is wide (except they could add some more internationality, since most of the beers are Belgian - still good choices!!). The seasonal beers are mostly excellent too and the staff can advise properly to your taste. For the non beer lovers, there are spirits, cocktails and softs as well. And if you feel a little hunger you can order some snacks too. Just try it out and you will probably love it too :)

What a lovely experience! Great beer and our server Iva went out of her way to explain the menu and even gave us a beer mat to take away as a souvenir for a beer we loved. To the owners of this place - never let her go!! :)

Trendy dark beer bar with some very kind and friendly waiters or one-shot-seller waiters that make you discover double-priced beers without mentioning the price. Beers are from an independant Belgium supplier. Some are classic but most have flavours. High counter tables are comfortable whereas small tables at the back of the room are small and seats are rough.

Do not come here as a tourist. As soon as they hear a non French word spoken they try to screw you over. That I could live with, if the food would be good. It is not. The fries were the best thing, that says a lot…. And if you send the horrible food back, they charge you for it anyway. And when you complain they shout at you and threaten to call the police. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

Patrons rave about the delicious food—especially the tapas—and appreciate that special vegan options are available upon request.
I wished they would be open every day. They have lovely live music, the staff is amazing, the food is prepared with a lot of love as well. They made some specials for us, because we're vegan. And if you enjoy shisha, they have a lot of tobacco choice as well, even when it's off season. There is nice outdoor seating, but inside it's very cosy as well. What a beautiful place to eat and drink right in the hearth of the shopping centre . We had a fantastic dinner at this place and food and service was top notch ! The place is right at the front of commercial centre you can watch all the people walking by . They have wide variety of food and lots of vegetarian options available with kids menu (hard to find this two together ) The staff were extremely helpful and quite competent English speakers . The best thing was these guys brew their own beeer and it tasted yummy. Shame I had to drive otherwise I could have drank gallons of their Blonde beer ! I would definitely recommend this place if you are in the area and looking for quick bite to eat some pub grubs !

1. Food look sad 2. Expensive (look at the photo) 3. Long wait for 45 mins just to have a simple hamburger (steak was cold, no taste, fries were dry) (+) the waiter was friendly tho. Despite bad experience I won't come back!

Solid brew pub. Has a bit of a chain like feel which I do not enjoy. But the beers are fairly good and the menu has a good amount of choice without being overwhelming. Food was not great, but good. Probably could have 4 stars, but on this particular busy Saturday night the poor wait staff and kitchen were overwhelmed. They were working incredibly hard (so not their fault) rather management needs to make some changes and/or put on more staff.

Visited in August 2023. The restaurant has a range of different beers, they also offer beer of the month which changes regularly. Since the place is just between à tram stop and à huge shopping centre it can be difficult to find a table at lunch time. The thing I loved the best here is Flammekueche (tarte flambée) which is à little bit similar to pizza but has its unique characteristics.
Iryna K — Google review
We visited to drink something, we were waiting to get a waiter so we could order. But when we saw the employees walking around we noticed that it was just like they didn't want to do their jobs, and some waiters just kept walking past us not even looking at us. When we asked if we could get a waiter a girl said "That's not my work" and she looked really annoyed. When we asked someone else who was serving the same question he just walked past us and completely ignored us. That was it after waiting 10 minutes we just left. This is not how u treat your customers!

Fun place to gather with your friends and family to play games and spend great moments together. If you don't like the smell of mold, you have to choose the right room for you... Interesting cocktails and many many games!
Hitomi O — Google review
Not recommended. Chairs should have been repaired months ago. Flies were constantly hovering above drinks and the room we were in had obvious mould stains on the walls and ceiling. Played one savagely beat-up game here, had a beer and left. Games are in mostly poor shape and the rooms are claustrophobic. Staff don't seem to care what kind of experience you have here. Beer was flat and stale.
Paul W — Google review
A solid board game bar. They’ve got a good selection of games that you can find all over the place. The inside is quite spacious but some of the couches can be a little uncomfortable. The bar’s pretty standard but does the job. It’s a good setting for a game night with friends.
Lo M — Google review
Excellent bar with hundreds of different game choices. The staff is extremely friendly and willing to help you choose a game(s) which fit your party's needs. The cocktails, while slightly on the more expensive side (but still reasonable prices considering the games you play are free!), are delicious and are changed every few months by the bartenders. I would highly recommend this spot, and also recommend you come early enough to ensure you get a table on the weekend!
Jonathan ( — Google review
Good cocktails, welcoming and nice staff. Large choice of games! They don’t have wine so you better like beer! It can be a little overwhelming to order when it is crowded (the service is only made at the bar). But honestly you get used to ;) The bar itself is very nice, the ancient stone walls give a charm to the place. There are 2 levels. I recommend !
Asma B — Google review
Great place to go with some friends, the access to games is free. You only pay for your drink, which is not always the case in others places similar to this one. I really like the vibe, the staff is cool, and every friday night there is a free loup garou game with anyone that's willing to join. The place closes at 1 AM which is nice because you don't have to leave in a rush. People there are friendly. I recommend it !

Excellent atmosphere for playing the games they have on hand. I'm told they have over a thousand. They also serve beer in liters here, something kind of rare in France. Hitomi O — Google review
Beautiful location on a green leafy square. Service was friendly and efficient. We joined for a few drinks and a shared steak and frites at a shared snack. Good value during "happy hour". Would recommend for a pre dinner drink in a lovely spot.
Tahlia H — Google review
We were in Montpellier for two weeks due to a conference and this became our go-to spot for drinks at night. First time trying espresso martinis (and other local specialties too!) and at one point, the rest of our conference followed us (really sorry for bringing everyone here, wasn’t on purpose)! Some of the servers were very nice and patient, but a few were quite rude to us (mind you, 90% of us spoke French) even when we were just 3-5 people, you’d think we were in Paris. Nice memories, wonderful drinks, will definitely be back here. ;)
J. J — Google review
The frozen daiquiris we got served did not have a single piece of ice in them. They did taste good tho. When are friends joined us the waitress asked if we wanted to wait to order until it is happy hour and we agreed. 15 minutes after happy hour started we still did not get asked what we wanted to drink. I'm aware that 15 minutes isn't a long time but the restaurant was pretty much empty and it didn't look like they wanted to take our order any time soon.
Sophia Z — Google review
Unfortunately I didn’t like this restaurant at all. The cappuccino was coffee with foam and tasted terrible. The salad had a lot of quinoa, and it was tasteless. Service was fine, nothing great . Very overpriced for what you get.
Ilona — Google review
Nice place to eat and relax. Good food. English speaking waitress helped us. Not used to smoking.
Joe W — Google review
That was a kind of disappointment. We decided to have lunch here because we had checked the menu board next to the entrance. We wanted to have Pokes. However the waiter informed that they do t have this dish. Ok, we wanted to take swordfish from the menu provided by the waiter. Again! They don’t have it. It was confusing. Finally we picked something but our mood was ruined. The dish was nice. The waiter spoke in English. That’s positive moments. But misleading information in the menus… it’s really bad
Kirill M — Google review
Unfortunately, only one option available for customers who are gluten, dairy, and soy-free. They had an allergen list but it was out of date, based on an old menu they are currently serving. Nice location.

Triskell Montpellier is a lively piano bar that offers exceptional cocktails, live music, and a vibrant atmosphere for unforgettable nights. It's one of the few places in France where you can find Kwak beer and they even serve it in the original style of Kwak glasses. The bar has an amazing terrace and friendly staff, offering a large choice of drinks at affordable prices. While they don't serve food, you can easily order from the nearby pizzeria.
Laid back, great service, reasonable price. Best terrasse-style bar I've seen around. No fuss, fantastic service, simple drinks, best atmosphere.

Amazing terrasse and lovely staff! The beers are cheap and they have a large choice of drinks. They don't serve food but you can order some just next door which is great too!! Great place to meet new people. Highly recommended!!!

Terrible experience, the waiter was very rude and just ruined the evening... The bar next to this one (the black cat) is so much better and the stuff is friendly!
Aleksandra G — Google review
One of the few places you can find Kwak beer in France. In addition, they have the original style of Kwak glasses to serve it in. It's a great place to sit outside and if you're hungry have a pizza from the pizzeria on the corner.

The beer hall My Beers Montpellier is a great place to enjoy a few beers with your friends. It has a wide range of beers and reasonable prices, making it a great option for budget-conscious drinkers. The staff are also very friendly and welcoming, ensuring that you have a fun evening out.
Great staff and great Guinness beer.🤣🤣 love the chicken wings also, kuddo to the cook girl. 👍
Laparesse - — Google review
The beer and wine were good, but the serving seemed quite small for the price. The food plate seemed good too. The space was quite noisy and the music was too loud. The smell of cigarette smoke was constant, even inside. The quiz was the most disappointing: i could hardly hear the questions; we waited forever to hear the answers; and the host forgot to answer the musical questions. Plus, even with nearly all answers correct, we didn't make the top 4?...
Sérgio S — Google review
Nice selection of draught beers and dozens of bottles available to drink at the premises or for take-out (including Pietra chestnut beer from Corsica). Nice terrasse far enough from the road and large TVs for sport. Big ol' tables inside, so a great spot for larger groups, people playing cards, dominoes, chess etc.
Sean R — Google review
A very nice place to enjoy a couple of beers with your friends or in couple. Prices are reasonable and you'll be surprised by the range of beers! Plus the place is clean with an awesome staff

A very good place! The manager installed a pool just for us on the "terrace", very friendly and awesome environment. Good beers.

Café de la Mer is a charming café located in the heart of Montpellier's Old Town, just a short distance from some of the city's most famous landmarks. The café offers a vast terrace on Place du Marche aux Fleurs, making it an institution in Montpellier known for its cosmopolitan and gay-friendly atmosphere.
Very old bar that I know since my youthful time in Montpellier. They have an eclectic clientele that suits well my taste for people from all walk of life . I certainly like the room inside with plenty of sitting space for winter or rainy days. The terrasse is just wonderful

Had coffee and chatted with expats already in or thinking about Montpellier. Great coffee and service
Bryan M — Google review
My wife and I were visiting Montpellier and learned of a group of Americans who gathered at Café de la Mer every Thursday morning. We joined them. The staff at Café de la Mer was very friendly and served the large group efficiently. This was a morning meeting, so most orders were coffee and croissants. The coffee and croissants were good, but I wouldn't say they were better than what you find at most French sidewalk cafés. We sat outside. It was very pleasant, but cool (early April).
Hank S — Google review
We asked for two glasses of wine and some water. The water was pretty needed on a hot evening. The server was extremely rude, took our order abruptly, and then 'forgot' our water. We had to chase him for it and he was no friendlier the second time. Si on résume en français, un accueil de merde, un serveur de merde, rien à ajouter !
Ronan M — Google review

Great cafe on a nice square in Montpellier. Not as crowded as near the Comédie or in the shopping area. The café is a straight-friendly cafe with nice staff. Only thing is, the chairs on the terrace are not that comfortable.

(Translated by Google) The welcome was beyond perfect. It's clear that the manager loves his job. Speaking of the manager and his way of putting customers at ease, I asked him for some beer caps because I'm a collector, so he gave me a small bucket full of them. Very kind of him! (Original) Accueil des plus que parfaits. On voit bien que le gérant aime beaucoup son métier.
