Gardens
Nestled in the heart of Montpellier, France, the Jardin des Plantes de Montpellier is a captivating botanical garden that dates back to 1593. Established under the reign of King Henri IV, this historic site was initially designed for studying medicinal plants and remains closely linked to the esteemed University of Montpellier. Spanning nearly five hectares, it boasts an impressive collection of over 2,600 plant species from around the globe—ranging from medicinal herbs to exotic blooms.
Beautiful free public park with great trees, duck ponds, playgrounds and gardens. Bring a picnic or have lunch at the cafe. There are even several large sequoias! Nice job Bordeaux!
Geof A — Google review
One of the best park to visit if you are in Montpellier. The park is completely free to access, but please remember walking on the grass and having picnics and dogs and bicycles are not allowed.
Heeman — Google review
Dry. In serious need of maintenance. It might be the time of year, but the whole place was really dry and the plants looked like they were on the brink of death. The whole garden really looked like it needed a great deal of maintenance, from general grass cutting and weeding, to repairing concrete and fixing broken watering systems. All in all, unfortunately I would say it’s not really worth the time in Montpellier.
Austen U — Google review
Beautiful park in the centre of the city of Montpellier. A lot of different plants all around the world. Very well maintained park. Orangery with exotic plants. Very nice place to walk around. Very romantic and quiet. I highly recommend visiting this park while you are in Montpellier on holiday. Free entry.
Vlamis — Google review
A peaceful and charming garden — perfect if you're looking for a calm day to unwind or read a book. It's not overly manicured, which gives it a relaxed, natural vibe. Great for a quiet break from the city.
Deniz A — Google review
The gardens are free to enter. Plenty of shade on a hot summer day in August. Beautifully landscaped, although many of the plants had finished blooming at this time of year and looked withered. I've visited much nicer botanical gardens, but this one is still worth a visit and easily combined with other sights in beautiful Montpellier!
Joris V — Google review
Very cool garden in Montpellier with some unique areas that aren’t commonly seen in public gardens (such as a toxic plants sub area within). They also have a desert conditions greenhouse which is often open to the environment since this is a drier part of France. Note: Google is asking me if I should buy tickets in advance, this garden is free and open to public access. The guardhouse is just for security purposes.

Event venue
Château De Flaugergues is an elegant chateau from the early 19th century, located in the eastern suburbs of Montpellier. Originally built as a summer residence for aristocracy, it now stands surrounded by modern developments. The estate boasts beautifully landscaped gardens and well-preserved interiors featuring paintings, historic furniture, and a collection of five Flemish tapestries depicting the life of Moses from the 1670s.
It was a great day to have a guided tour (in English and French mixed) around the castle and have a little backstory of how, when and what was happening around it. The property is surrounded by beautiful gardens which worth a longer visit! Our tour has finished with wine tasting of white, rosé and red wines produced on the vineyards located behind the château. Many thanks to the staff and the lady who was our guide!🫶🏻
Karina R — Google review
My husband and I had the wedding of our dreams at the Château de Flaugergues! The chateau gardens are absolutely stunning and provided so many unique spaces for each part of our day (the bambouseraie was perfect for the welcome lemonade, the more forested area served as our ceremony space, and the area in front of the orangerie was a great backdrop for our vin d'honneur!) We used the plastic chairs and tables provided by the chateau and these worked perfectly well. Pierre de Colbert and his team are very responsive and helpful, and really contributed a lot to the smooth organization of the event. It rained unexpectedly on our wedding day, but luckily the chateau has a big indoor reception room that we were able to use very easily for dinner and dancing (and it still looked great even without any decoration). For such a beautiful setting, we found the price of the venue to be very reasonable, especially compared to other chateaux in the region. As we had lots of international guests, the fact that the chateau is located near the center of Montpellier was really convenient, and there is a great hotel next door where all of our guests were able to stay (so no bothering with driving or ubers after the wedding). We also got to experience dinner and a great gospel music concert the night before our wedding at the chateau for the fête de la musique, which only added to our experience. Honestly, I can't imagine a better wedding venue in Montpellier!
Marissa — Google review
A walk in the garden, a tour through the Chateau and finishing it with a wine tasting. What's not to like! It really wasn't crowded at all, which meant we had the garden basically to ourselves and a private tour of the Chateau! Regrettably, I forgot the name of our tourguide. But he was really wonderful in guiding us through the Chateau, provided lovely insights into the history and was very articulate in English and pleasant to listen to. Incredible that people are currently living there and move to different rooms during tours, into closed off areas. That must feel like living in a museum!
Remy W — Google review
Very significant Chateau with extremely rare items inside! Thanks so much to our expert historical guides for providing so much information! Even if you are not a history fan, the stories of the family owners to present day are intriguing! The Chateau rooms open to view are an hour's visit and the grounds are definitely worth viewing!
Carolyn W — Google review
Very nice tour of the Chateau, done by a young French lady in English, with some help with audience participation. There are some wonderful gardens to peruse afterwards and a wine tadting of 3 different wines, all made by the vineyard.
Alex I — Google review
Very beautiful and charming place, very nice guide she told us everything and answered every questions. Here is also restaurant where You can eat delicious meals. You can buy also house wine. Personally I fell in love with Garden. Parking is free
Eva S — Google review
The chateau is absolutely gorgeous and the gardens are beautiful. The tour was informative and enjoyable, 5 stars all the way ✨
Jacob N — Google review
Great experience and nice local wines, the chateau and garden are both beautiful. It was a bit unclear at first wether we got tickets for just the wine tasting or the tour for the chateau/garden, ended up being both! The whole tour was in french, but they solved it right away giving us a translation card for the tour to help! Overall really nice staff and place :).

Scenic Walking Areas
Promenade du Peyrou, also known as the Royal Square of Peyrou, is a picturesque city square in Montpellier. It features an impressive equestrian statue of Louis XIV and offers stunning views of the city and the Arc de Triomphe. The area includes a castle-like building with Corinthian pillars designed by Henri Pitot, as well as a well-preserved Roman aqueduct.
Come for the view! Enjoy your walk and see this park; you can overlook the aqueduct at the pavilion at its eastern end. Went there early afternoon and easily found a place to sit and relax a bit. It’s a traditional park in France, don’t expect flowers but more pavement and a good view across statue towards church and city.

Walking from the place comédie, you need to go to the side of this place to enter. Very beautiful place with few people, and the view is also amazing.

A great spot for a short walk with a beautiful panoramic view of the city. The historic architecture adds a lot of charm, and it's a nice place to relax and do some people-watching. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Montpellier.

My favorite spot in Montpellier. It feels like a breath of fresh air. It is clean, has trees, and a beautiful view days and night. I went there a few times during my stay.

This is a great place to walk around in to see some great views and some old architecture! I like running around the perimeter because there is decent shade and a good amount of space to avoid folks when running. They have some pretty cool free events here too. Its beautiful during sunset.

Nice walk in a very cool and spacious space. I enjoyed the play of light on the elements. If you like photography on a sunny day, the shadows are re pretty intense and interesting. The area around it is also green so plenty of room to rest.

A very beautiful square in the pedestrian part of the old city of Montpellier with some trees, bushes, flowers, nice restaurants, a few benches and a monument. A place for relaxation and enjoyment.

Place de La Canourgue is one of the prettiest green spaces in the center of Old Montpellier. You can just sit on one of the benches in the shade of a tree or admire the fountain of the unicorns, one of its main features. Domaine d'O is a sprawling 23-hectare park nestled in the Chateau d'O estate on the outskirts of Montpellier. The park features lush gardens, pine forests, and olive groves, creating a picturesque setting for various cultural events. One of its main attractions is an impressive open-air theater that has been hosting public events since 2003. Visitors can enjoy music and film nights, jazz festivals in June or July, and even techno events.
Went to Music Festival here. The place is 5mins walking distance from the tram station Malbosc Domaine Do. The place is next to a park. Very pretty.

Nothing to see. The castle is very small and doesn't look like a castle, we couldn't visit it inside. There was supposed to be fontains but there were without water. Only thing nice, you just have a walk in a quit park.

Nice place, visited for a public event organized by local municipality on 18th and 19th August., Which offer you to taste the wine and can have 2 drinka at a cost of 7 euro which included the price of sexy wine glass. ( The event happens annually quarterly i am not sure)

Went to the late summer music + film night. Lovely place, lots of picnic tables (people brought their own food but there is also a restaurant) fairy lights and lanterns in the trees. Great outdoor amphitheatre for the film. Apparently they also have great jazz Festival in June or July.

Château de la Mogère is an opulent 18th-century mansion with well-preserved antique-filled rooms and beautifully landscaped gardens. The estate's French gardens, adorned with palm trees and a large seashell-built fountain, showcase the historic artistry of the era. Guided tours offer insight into the lavish lifestyle of Montpellier's elite. Additionally, it serves as a stunning venue for fairytale weddings.
I am happy to announce that the "big black dog" some poor reviews reported about, and based their review upon, is the NICEST GIRL ever. Such a cute dog. I am glad I could meet her (and the Château owner) in person. Otherwise, beautiful castle, fantastic wedding setting. Respect the opening times.
Stéphane D — Google review
Super cool visit, empty on a spring weekend. Really makes you feel inside a story... the guide was also super friendly and the dog might look scary but its a sweetheart
Bianca R — Google review
This is not a place to visit. It is a horrible experience. I went there and for nothing. When I tried to enter and find somebody for guiding or for buying a ticket, a big black dog started barking and chased me. I had to run. Nobody came out anyway, I could have been bitten. I also tried to call but nobody answered.

Parc du Domaine de Méric is a stunning green space in Montpellier, offering a variety of attractions for visitors. The park features lush gardens, flower-filled meadows, and historic buildings including a blush-pink farmhouse, an orangery, and a 19th-century town house once owned by painter Frederic Bazille. Bazille's inspiration from the surroundings is evident in his famous painting "La Reunion de Famille."
Beautiful park with green area, picnic area with tables, a space dedicated to dogs too. Parking spot for bikes, playground.. Well located and quite.
Neymara C — Google review
Parc du Domaine de Méric offers a pleasant natural setting with shaded walking paths and open fields, ideal for dog walkers or those seeking a quiet stroll. However, during summer it can feel quite dry and exposed, with little to engage younger children. Not the most family-friendly park, but peaceful for solo visitors or pet owners.
Ilox — Google review
This is a lovely park and so far my favourite of the ones I've visited in Montpellier. It's accessible on foot from the Tramway line 2 and runs alongside the River Lez. There is a forested part with woodland trails and then up a hill an open meadow that has been left to grow wild so it has a very natural feel to it. I took my daughter there on bikes but as it's quite small and hilly I didn't find it the best place for biking but for walks and picnics and sitting by the beautiful river it's gorgeous.

Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle is a picturesque park in Montpellier, featuring tree-lined paths, open-air sculptures, and seasonal markets. The Neo-Renaissance style building within the park was constructed in 1891 by architect Leopold Carlier as a venue for various events. The boulevard from Place de la Comedie to Le Corum hosts major attractions like Musee Fabre and the Pavillon Populaire photography museum.
There were renovation going on in the park, lots of people chilling under the spring sun, kids had fun in the playground located at the end of the park while I sat on a nearby bench.

Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle is one of the best public spaces in the downtown area of Montpellier, especially on weekends and holidays. The leafy area is usually full of residents and visitors who are there to enjoy various outdoor activities including strolling, dancing and sitting down to watch people go by.

A beautiful park that was being remodeled during our visit. It’s great to stroll on way to Museums.
Magda B — Google review
Loovely place, don't miss out on the regular market/festival that is held here every Friday throughout the summer. An incredible atmosphere, the most striking thing for a Scandinavian like me is that everyone walks around with each their (real glass!) small wine glass and just enjoy life. There's a wide variety of food at the stands, crepes, seafood, grill, international, ham, etc. Wine is a given. And of course live music here and there. All in all an impressive set up and I highly recommend it.

Park
Parc Montcalm is a spacious and tree-lined park that has been transformed from a military training area into a family-friendly space with a focus on sports. It offers various amenities such as a pool, track, tennis courts, and rugby fields. The park caters to all age groups and provides numerous courts for different sporting activities including basketball, soccer, and skating. Additionally, there are wooden play areas for kids.
Great place for a stroll with the dog, or for a run; a game of tennis or basketball; or to just sit on a shady bench. Big enough so it doesn’t feel crowded, even on a sunny fall morning like today.
Patrick L — Google review
Nice park, we saw an interesting fair there. The disadvantage is that there is no place to hide from rain in the park
Elena — Google review
For a one day trip with family and friends it was a nice place.
LABANI D — Google review
Fine as a large open space for sports, with a big running track and football pitch. Less interesting for walks and picnics as the unshaded, barren sports area dominates most of the park, and the more pleasant wooded area to one side is much smaller. Seems a little run-down and no kids play area, picnic benches or other amenities. Disappointing to see dog poo even on the running track. It could do with some decent landscaping as much of the space seems to be poorly exploited. I've seen better parks.
Kathryn J — Google review
An enormous park - perfect
Diane L — Google review
If I could give more stars, I would 😆 it's a nice sizeable park and you can probably find a place to do your sport in here no matter what it is. I went with a friend in search of grass to play a bit of vb and a group of 4 already had their net up and were enjoying games. Looking around, people were playing basketball, running and even skating which i will be coming back for :)
Aina R — Google review
A amazing renovation of a military training area into a family park really oriented towards sports (running, cycling, pump track, basketball and tennis courts, soccer fields, etc). There are several cool wooden kid areas.

Located near the Jardin des Plantes, Parking Montpellier Arc de Triomphe is a convenient option for visitors wanting to explore the botanical gardens. While it may be narrow and require navigating a winding passage to exit, it offers a great location and is relatively clean and secure. Although there are limited special spaces for families, it still stands out as a better choice compared to other parking facilities in the area. Overall, it's worth considering when visiting this part of Montpellier.

The good plan, as for the Polygone parking lot, is that after 7 p.m., it's about half the price compared to the Marché aux Fleurs and la Comédie. From 7 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., for example, costs around €2.30. Not bad for a parking lot with a security guard. Very practical for those who don't want to go too far into town. It is true, “mal frequente” meaning bad people are here, so watch out. The park has an old ginkgo biloba tree and a fountain with limestone deposits and moss.
Niels F — Google review
Charming little park with a kids play-area and plenty of benches around.
Gregory D — Google review
This place can seem like the usual park in the middle of a French city, but I was amazed at how incredibly beautiful it is to look at the birds going to shower in the rock that’s in the middle of a pond. Beautiful cozy park to hang out in the sun. I would come back time and time again.

Never walk here, especially in the evenings as it is a big amount of intravenous drug usage in the open there.

Vincent was extremely kind and available, he even thought of a cushion and a ball for our dog in addition to taking great care of us. Thank you sincerely (Original) Lieux et accueil uniques !!! (Translated by Google) Hello everyone. The park itself is beautiful and very well maintained. You will ask me: "Why 1 star?" The answer is as follows: A guard staying in the park completely crazy who invents stories e.g.: my daughter respects the environment and throws her waste in the trash but for the guard, no, she threw the bottle on the ground and that's it! ,he verbally abused me and my children. He says that he is 66 years old, isn't that a reasonable age to retire and make way for more competent and, above all, more pleasant young people. Avoid meeting this guard, you will have an unpleasant day. Yours truly. (Original) Bonjour tout le monde. Le parc en lui-même est magnifique et très bien entretenu. Vous me direz :"Pourquoi 1 étoile ?"

We expected sheep and with my wife and 2 kids and were disappointed. The park could be nice if the dogs could poo in their own park or the owners could pick up. The park is wild (good part) but full of rubbish not picked up. Mosquitoes in the summer so get you spray ready.
