The 25 best pastries and patisseries in Montpellier

I ordered a tarte a tomate, a baguette, and a pistachio eclair. The tarte tomate and baguette were good, but what I would call standard for France. But the eclair? OMG. I went into it thinking I might just eat half and save the other half for later, but once I had a bite I realized that was not an option. The pistachio cream was so good, but the real gold here was the layer of what I asuume were candied pistachios underneath. Now I’m going to have to go back and decide whether to try a different eclair or just eat another pistachio.

I’m experiencing a pleasant pain, Sussie. I adore the buttery flavor and the filling is delicious, but I wish it could be more airy inside and elegant on the outside.

We enjoyed their pastries 3 days in a row. So yummy and well presented, if you would like to try their croissant you have to get there early! As they do run out! I recommend everything!!!

I have bought a Tarte Tomate and a Croissant, they were great but I had a little problem with the cost, wich was promptly answered by the store, that also reimbursed me. Went back and ate 2 other delicious: a quiche Lorraine and a Eclair Exotique that was also amazing. No wonder everytime I pass by this store there is a line in front of it. They care about doing great boulangerie as well as great customer service. I will go back for sure until Im in this city. Merci!

I shouldn’t have tried these because I’m from Canada and we can’t get anything remotely similar back home. The eclairs were delicious and not too sweet. The pastries were equally tasty. There was quite a line but it moved quickly and the service was friendly and welcoming despite my broken French! I will be thinking about these in my dreams. One day I will be back!

Great cakes and eclairs. Also loved the gluten free cake. Their apricot pastry is a must try. Good coffee too. The place is located less than 10 minutes by walking from Montpellier Saint Roch. They also have a chocolate and macarons shop right across the street. Highly recommended.

Agreed, this is a must! Lovely staff (French only but not an issue) and simply yummy beautiful prepared and pretty food. From the light eclairs to the crunchy baguettes. Amazing clock inside as well. Space is a bit small so might be difficult to navigate with a wheelchair or stroller.

My sister and I were so fed up with the bland gross food of Spain we took a four hour bus to France just to have some good food for once and Gabriel did not disappoint. His macarons were delicious and the rainbow cake was our favourite. I think we almost cried.

Don’t let the empty street fool you. I have been to many patisserie shops in Montpellier, and this is one of my absolute favorites. The flavors are delicate and well-balanced. The level of sweetness is just right. The service is very friendly. Small tarts are 4-5 euros, 11-17 for the larger ones. I will be returning again and again.

When I first walked past this place on a Tuesday morning, i couldn’t find it (using Google maps) but decided to walk past it again and there it was and so glad I did. We got two lemon meringue tarts and they were divine. Everything you want and more in French Pâtisserie. I wish I’d taken a photo now as they looked as pretty as a picture but was too busy enjoying and eating them! Definitely would recommend anyone going to Montpellier to give this place a visit, you won’t be disappointed ☺️

It’s been over 2 yrs since we were in Montpellier for the summer and we still talk about Bruno’s delicious tarts and his warmth to us as customers. Can’t wait to be back one day soon. Enjoyed a piece of heaven in a chocolate ganache tart. A small shop with some wonderful looking patisserie in the case.

The service is friendly. The cake is not really tasty compared to other cafes (it misses a bit taste and spice, the consistency is good, whipped cream vegan also good). The price for 5€ per slice of cake is really high compared to the taste, but for this you get a vig piece. The interior style is nice, but with the choice of the cutlery and plates they did not spend a lot of attention and love.

A MUST for every vegan out there. Everything you can get there is 100% vegan, fresh and tasty. The Service was very friendly and helpful. If you are lucky you get a table outside. It’s a tiny but very beautiful old street.

Tiny and cozy Argentinian/french cafe that serves sandwiches, pastries and drinks. The personnel is very friendly and welcoming. The food is good and the coffee is surprisingly nice too. The water came for free with the little salty croissant.

The fact that this place stays open past 3pm for lunch deserves a 5-star rating. The quiches are also fantastic, and they have a value lunch formula + friendly service in French, Spanish and English!

I have now been living in France for 2 months, visited many cities and this is still the best bakery I have visited. The lamination and the buttery pastry is unmatched. A crunchy but chewy croissant.

The most delicious Patisserie, we went there while visiting Montpellier recommended by a local restaurant staff as the best croissant in town. At Ikonka we found it very friendly to foreigners, excellent capuccino, their croissants are legendary in a city that has already a high level of pastries. Sympathetic staff, superb service, fantastic terrace to enjoy your breakfast as a special experience. Staff friendly also with pets. There was a line of people waiting for a takeaway while others were sitting in their terrace and enjoying their breakfast. Seems famous among tourists as well as with locals. Could not have chosen a better place for breakfast.

Super cute spot away from the main area of the city. Really sweet street. Bakery pastries look incredible, I only grabbed a takeaway oat flat white which was SO GREAT. Really recommend coffee - I’d return!

Epic boulangerie, the best we've tried in Montpellier. We tried different pastry and they were all super good although we really fell in love we the almond cake. Good prices as well. We definitely gonna miss this boulangerie. The girls have also been very nice and friendly and we kept crossing one of them during our visit of the city which was very funny. I am a cient of this establishment for 5 years alredy. I find it to be one of the best places in town from where to buy bakery products. I mainly buy their bread related products since we found their cakes to sweet for our taste, actually, there is so much sugar added, that you are no longer able to taste different flavours. Stay away from their chocolate cake and their eclaires - they are tasteless. Also if held longer on your tongue, you will always feel the chemicals substanses added in all theur sweet products. Their two main pastries (croissant au beurre and pain au chocolat) are not briliant, just good looking. They used to have an interesting croissant au chocolat, but they remove it from their offer. Hygiene - first is important to know that in France hygine is non existing. This was one of the first cultural shocks for us. Everthing is looking to be clean, but the germs are carefully kept there. They lately introduced a glove with wich to handle the baquettes but that is for sure just the for the end clientes, when new products they are brought from the back, the personal is empty handed and holding the box from the bottom (boxes being previously puted to the ground) and then placing the baquetes on the shelfs. Still, dogs are allowed inside, which is for sure a law violation, and since most all the french seems to have a pet (why?), you can see one inside very often, the place is a bit snobby, and probably for that they are not demanding to their clients to keep their dogs out (but there are clients that are doing that). So this is my view to one of the best places in Montpellier from where to buy backery products.

Bakery with excellent quality products. We discovered this bakery just walking around and a long queue made us go inside. There were a lot of sweet pastries and great breads. We decided to try two pastries and we ordered the typical baguette. It was amazing! The flavours, the crunchy bites and the perfect consistency of the sweet pastries are the strengths of this bakery. We hope to go again if we come back to Montpellier.

I would not recomment buying macarons, probably they have been staying there for months, too old and rock-hard, good looking though but you can not eat them. The eclair was okay, plenty of cream but nothing special. My favorite was the bounty dessert, which tasted really great. The staff was nice, so I will come to try other desserts as well, avoiding macarons.😀

Really cute cat cafe with 5 cats. All of the cats are happy and friendly, and the cats’ comfort is prioritized. The cats roam freely and can go to a private back area where they can take a break from visitors if they’re over stimulated, but they were happily hanging out with visitors when we went. The food is good but it’s mostly desserts, coffee and tea, so don’t expect a large meal if you go.

The ladies working here were friendly but the food was very average. Perhaps the sushi is good but the other food is an attempt at Asian cuisine. The karage was like frozen chicken nuggets served with sweet chilli sauce. Who serves sweet chilli with karage? Miso soup was lukewarm and the donburi was mostly rice with an odd selection of veg. Beetroot and corn in donburi? Hmmm.

After two bad experiences with resturant staff in montpellier just today this resturant was a breath of fresh air. The staff (both the waitress and the owner) did their best to make sure we were taken care of properly, and provided excellent service! Communicating in english went well and a sweet enthusiasm made the experience very enjoyable. We bought the Sushi Lover plate and were pleasantly surprised at the good quality of the fish! Both the norwegian salmon and tuna was excellent 👌 10/10 recommend if you want a nice dining out experience in Montpelier! We hope to go back a second time before we leave 😊

After touring Provence paris and french rivière I can say that clara jung has the most memorable Tartelette pistache. Serving is beautiful the flavors are well felt in the soft paste and in the hard filling and most importantly It is not too sweet. first bite and you feel the efforts invested in each piece and the high quality of the raw materials, add to the equation a super nice manager , quiet location but yet close the center and you have a perfect afternoon with friends .
