Brighton Palace Pier, which opened in 1899, is a historic and thrilling destination offering fairground rides, bars, restaurants, and stunning sea views. Visitors can enjoy street performers and ocean vistas before exploring popular eateries and bars inside the pier. The boardwalk offers opportunities for souvenir shopping while indulging in sweet treats. Families can delight in arcade games, midway attractions, sideshow entertainment, and exhilarating roller coasters.
The Brighton Palace Pier is the heart of Brighton’s seaside fun and one of the most visited attractions in the UK. Opened in 1899, the pier stretches out over 1,700 feet (about half a kilometre) into the sea and welcomes millions of visitors every year. It’s famous for its lively arcades, classic fairground rides, and spectacular views along the coast. Families especially love it here, with safe, family-friendly entertainment ranging from gentle carousels for young children to bigger rides like rollercoasters for thrill-seekers. Food is another big draw at the Palace Pier. You’ll find the best of British seaside classics—fish and chips, doughnuts, candyfloss, and ice cream—as well as bars and cafés for a more relaxed break. At night, the pier is beautifully lit up, creating a magical atmosphere that combines nostalgia with excitement. Clean, well-kept, and packed with entertainment, the Brighton Palace Pier is a must-visit for anyone coming to the beach, whether for family fun, a romantic walk, or simply soaking up the lively seaside vibe.
Nicholas M — Google review
Nice to walk around and enjoy the sea view, but the visit is quite short. The pier is mostly filled with attractions, arcade games, and lots of food stalls (churros, donuts, etc.), so not much else to really do. Still, it’s a beautiful spot and worth seeing for the view over the sea and the coastline.
Malika D — Google review
Brighton Beach is a lively seaside spot full of energy and charm. The pebble shore, colorful promenade, and iconic pier make it a fun place to relax, eat, and explore. It can get crowded in summer, but the atmosphere is always vibrant.
Kshitiz V — Google review
Always worth a visit. Especially with kids. Nothing amazing or groundbreaking but perfect for a couple of hours. Playing the 2pence machines is fun and cheap. The waterslide and some other fares, a 🍦 to round it off, what more do you want!
Max G — Google review
Brighton Pier is such an iconic place to visit. £2 entry to the pier. Lots to see, do, eat and experience. A trip back in time with rides, amusement games, soft serve ice creams, fish and chips, and lovely ocean views. You do need to purchase separate tickets for the rides. Go as an adult and feel like a kid again.
Nicola P — Google review
Brighton Pier holds a very sentimental place in my heart because it reminds me of being a child on holiday. Charging to enter the pier is not good, though I do see to maintain it, the money has to come from somewhere. Of course. From the council would be better. I love the food stalls, independent shops, rides, bars and cafes. Especially Horatio’s and Sunset bar. I’d like to see more about the history of the pier and how the money is used to maintain it. Plus, I always thought the mirrors were scratched but they are little birds!
Darren S — Google review
Absolutely lovely place to visit. Great vibe, a lot of people during summer season, a lot of things to do for everyone, no matter of the age. Funfairs, bars, restaurants, souvenir shop and other nice places to visit. You can rent a chair for £5 or sub bed for £10 for the whole day, collector is walking around. Also, pls bring flip flops as it’s very hard to walk on stones.
Jelena — Google review
Brighton Palace Pier is the heart of the city’s seaside charm. A lovely place to stroll along the beach, enjoy the sea breeze, and take in the views — even when the waves are a little wild. The pier is full of fun attractions and games, perfect for families, couples, or friends. At night, the lights create a magical atmosphere that makes it a must-see when visiting Brighton.

Natural history museum
Museums
Nestled in Brighton, the Booth Museum of Natural History is a treasure trove of over half a million natural specimens and centuries-old data. The museum's permanent exhibition features lifelike displays of British birds, a killer whale skeleton, and dinosaur bones. Special exhibitions and tailored educational programs cater to visitors of all ages. Founded in 1874 by Edward Booth, the museum showcases his vast collection, including Victorian taxidermy and an impressive array of butterfly specimens.
Very good and deceptively large. It’s a relatively small collection but I could have easily spent all day in there because of how many specimens there are neatly packed together. The taxidermy and skeletons are all impressive and well put-together and everything felt very tidy and well up to date. There are plenty of spots to sit, including a cozy Victorian study. Definitely a must, especially if you’re interested in birds and taxidermy.
Adrian I — Google review
The museum was lively when my friend and I arrived! The animal displays were also varied to show the habitats of the birds, and some included prey. Not all of the animal names were visible in the glass cases portion, and there weren't additional placards providing information about each species, which I would've liked, but I may have also missed a QR code or something that led to an online guide. The back portion was no less fun, and the informational placards there had some humor! There was one about the rhinoceros skull with artificial horns that poked fun at their value-- since they weren't real, they couldn't be used in Chinese medicine or we'd be sick or sold at cocaine-level prices. Anyway, it's a quaint smaller museum in Brighton :) I liked it for an afternoon activity to spend a few hours in.
Xiomara J — Google review
This was brilliant for our kids (3 & 5) - lots of simple things for them to get involved with. Would recommend to anyone to spend and hour or two here. Staff/volunteers made us feel very welcome. We could actually sit down and hang out here, which is so lovely
Rhiannon L — Google review
This is a FREE museum in Brighton. If you can make a donation, then it Will help with the costs of running the building. What an interesting place. Things for the adults to have a read up on, activities for the kids to get involved with. Loads of exhibits to have a look at, some really interesting. So glad we went.
Mark T — Google review
Absolutely brilliant couple hours spent here. An unplanned trio and not expecting much but it's completely filled with things to look at and interactive bits for kids. My 1 and 2 year old loved it.
Nadine H — Google review
This place was a surprise. We went because after living in Brighton for 7 years we wanted to explore places we've never been and this museum was very interesting. We didn't know about its existence, but we were pleasantly surprised.
Fabio D — Google review
Beautiful museum support worker went here with one of my clients our first time visting here so much to see freindly staff would tell my family freinds about this place
Nikita N — Google review
We never get disappointed with this local museum. Kids love it! Great location as you have a playground and a nice family friendly caffe across the road. The collection here is very interesting and I’ve been coming here since I’ve moved to Brighton. There are chairs and tables, keep an eye for activities for the little ones. There’s place for buggies. Accessible toilet. It closes for lunch.

Brighton Fishing Museum is a volunteer-run museum that offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of the fishing community in Brighton. Housed in former boat builders' sheds, this gem of an attraction showcases the town's fishing past through film, photos, and marine memorabilia. Visitors can explore the evolution of this 1000-year-old fishing community into a fashionable seaside resort. The museum features model boats and offers free admission, making it one of the best free things to do in Brighton.
Very informative place.. people can get understand about Brighton fishing culture and how it’s growing up.. overall good place. It’s free of charge entrance. But If you like you can donate some money.
Asulanjana W — Google review
The Fishing Museum and the small community around it, I believe is the heartbeat of the seafront. It's a fantastic place to visit. Explore the history of Brighton fishing. Sit down and people watch. Visit the various seafood and smoothie arches. It is honestly one of the greatest and undersold gems of Brighton and Hove. It's a beautiful gaggle of people and you'll always feel welcome in this little and unusual community! If I could give the museum and associated businesses more than five stars, I would. Get down there!
Baz B — Google review
We had a lovely visit today and with it being voluntary donations it was something to do that we'd may not have thought of. I was with my 17 and 8 year old and they both enjoyed different aspects of the museum. It's not going to take long to get round but it's definitely worth a visit if you can. The gentleman on the desk was lovely and welcoming
Mumtominibeasts — Google review
Well, "museum" is too big a word for this... It's a small space where some boats and some things related to marine fishing are exhibited. In 10-15 minutes you saw everything. I don't think it's a goal in itself. If you pass by and have time, you can enter for a short time.
Paul C — Google review
Little walk way is fab so much shops all around. Place looked so cute, was closing up when I was close to it but overall the walk along the pier is just breathtaking lots to see and everything looks so well organised and perfectly placed
M L — Google review
The place has a free entrance or you can give a donation. Its nice to take a look at the history presented here, good for kids but also adults. Its a small museum but a nice one, with the look and feel of an old ship. We enjoyed.
Li S — Google review
A great space, to showcase your artwork right on Brightons seafront, there's been some amazing art on show over the years, it's always worth a look if you're passing as you never know what you could find next.
Rob A — Google review
The place is a horror show filled with the deeply arrogant people. Put a turn style on the entrance and charge £1 so you can cut out the extreme levels of rude people that wonder in like flotsam and jetsam on the shore. Other than that, it has some interesting historical tidbits.

Located in the Royal Pavilion's gardens, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery offers a diverse range of exhibits including fine and decorative art, fashion, toys, and local history. The museum underwent a significant renovation in 2002 and houses an impressive collection such as a Kinemacolour Camera from 1910, George IV's breeches, Lewis Carroll's handmade toy toolbox, water puppets from Vietnam, and the Hove amber cup.
Absolute gem although I didn't have my kids with me the day I visited, I totally noticed and appreciated how interactive and kid friendly the museum was. Will definitely be back. It was a really lovely experience.
Cat C — Google review
Cute and quaint exhibitions! Very limited art selection of all the art galleries I have visited in the UK and £10.00 entry fee. Nice staff though and decent location.
Nichole M — Google review
A good place to go with potential to be better. What I loved about the Brighton museum is it's variety of historical and local lore which presented the opportunity to cover the very basics (such as the Egyptian exhibit). It was really great to see not only a diverse history of Brighton & Hove, but also that members of staff had the opportunity to express their own creative passions here which gave it's own merit of exploration. Although not to my personal taste, the current mod exhibition served it's purpose well. The passion and protest exhibit was also a great addition and I will be using the insights I have gained to form part of my practice development in the equality and diversity module of my formal apprenticeship. What was disappointing, was the amount of fashion displays. The mod exhibition followed by a Ben Sherman takeover had overtaken a significant amount of the museum. I think that if they had been spread out separately or combined into the backspace that the Mod exhibition was in it would have been enough. I do hope with the rotation of exhibits on offer come January we will see less of similarity and a more diverse range of exhibitions on offer.
Josh S — Google review
A superb local museum, we have visited before but on this occasion it was to visit the exhibition on Mod culture and clothing, which was really good.
Andy H — Google review
Wonderful place to visit. Superb exhibitions. Friendly, lovely staff. Thank you. Will come back.
Bobica R — Google review
A varied and thought-provoking little museum, we came here for the ‘Queer the Pier’ exhibition which was so considerately curated. I enjoyed reading about every single piece!
TFT — Google review
Located near the Royal Pavilion, in a building with beautiful, special architecture. Not very big, you need about an hour to visit it. It has several sections, but not very large. The most interesting seemed to me to be the one dedicated to ancient Egypt (although small), and the one with archaeological discoveries from the Brighton area. During my visit, they also exhibited a self-portrait of Rembrandt, borrowed from the National Gallery in London.
Paul C — Google review
Currently have small collection of fashions of the MOD 1960s-1970s era. Which was quite interesting. Free entry with Art Fund National Art Pass. Next to Brighton Pavilion, so can do both in one visit.

The Royal Pavilion Gardens in Brighton are a picturesque spot to enjoy a leisurely lunch or take a relaxing stroll. The gardens often feature live music performances and cultural events, making it an inviting place for visitors. Surrounded by the stunning Indian-style architecture of the Royal Pavilion, designed by John Nash for King George IV, the gardens offer a tranquil setting for picnics and casual outings.
So far that’s the only garden or green space Brighton have in centre of city which is worth to visit, have a relaxing moments and enjoy the view. Such nice green space full of nature. A nice cafe is there. So have your picnic after long shopping, walk etc. Royal Pavilion view is such great from the garden.

Beautiful open space free entrance. The gardens are beautiful… the architecture is just simple stunning. Highly recommend it this place is just located in the city centre of Brighton.

A beautiful and peaceful spot in the heart of Brighton. The Royal Pavilion itself is stunning, and the gardens around it are perfect for a relaxing walk or just sitting down to enjoy the atmosphere. Surrounded by history and unique architecture, it’s a must-see for anyone visiting Brighton. A great place for photos, too!

The gardens surrounding the palace are gently maintained and wonderfully romantic! You'll find fragrant roses and blousy hydrangea alongside perennials and exotic shrubbery. It's a delightful stop if you're in town for holiday!

It's normally quite a nice space to hang out in right about until the summer holiday begins since hoards of language school children gather by the pavilion and often trash the place. I also saw a rat scuttle out of one of the bushes last week. Too much litter and too crowded during hot weather.

Full of joy and friendly dogs. Tennis courts, a cafe, lots of open green spaces. Too busy for us unless it's raining haha x

Fantastic place to bring the children nice long walks and just across the road there's a rock garden that the little ones can have an adventure going up and down the rock path. There's a sandy area with swings and slides and a few cafes on site what more do you need for a great day out
Peter L — Google review
I love going to the rock gardens over the road with my son and partner to see the fishes and to go in the little waterfall
Melody G — Google review
Preston Park, although not near the centre of Brighton, is worth a visit for the wide open space, peaceful setting and other surrounding attractions such as Preston Manor and the Rock Gardens. Various facilities including tennis courts and basketball courts, plus a choice of two cafes, the Rotunda (south end, beside the rose garden) or the Chalet Cafe (right in the middle and now open seven days a week). Sometimes also hosts a travelling circus (check online) as well as other events, including Pride On The Park which this year saw a headline performance by Mariah Carey.

It's the city's only outdoor covered market and features over 40 unique stalls and traders. Visitors can support small local businesses while enjoying quality food and handcrafted products. The market also houses several cafes, artist studios, and quirky gift stalls. It's a great place to escape the tourist crowds and soak up the local atmosphere.
I used to go there a few times a week when I used to live nearby. Went there yesterday for the 1st time in years & I was very pleased to see that the atmosphere was still the same. Small shops, good cheese, fresh eggs, cheap books, nice coffee places & eateries, lovely community❤️

It’s not a very big market but if you want to support local and small businesses, this is the place to come! It’s very lively during Christmastime and you can find a range of items from crafts to sauces to cheese to books. There are many fantastic stalls and on the top floor there’s some specialised shops as well. If you’re passing by, it’s definitely worth a short visit. You can also keep up with them on their social media to see which days there’s going to be Makers’ Markets (my personal favourite)

Came by late on a Monday around 5 pm, and unfortunately, most shops and stalls were closed. It seems like the market winds down early in the week. It might be a better idea to visit on busier days if you're looking for more options!
Basil — Google review
It's great that you can support the locals there! You can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, there is also a bakery and many other things such as sewing materials or antique furniture. I was surprised at how delicious the Samosa was at the little kiosk on the left. The best i had in my life, seriously. The whole place is not as big as I thought, but worth visiting when you are in this area.
Aleksandra Z — Google review
Quite interesting. Not very big, but I think it's worth a short visit. You can find interesting handicrafts and all kinds of more or less valuable antiques. Small shops of local producers. I drank a very good craft beer here. I don't think you need more than 40 minutes for a visit.
Paul C — Google review
I love the open market and despise it in equal amounts. A form of gentrification with out the benefits of investment is semi present, loaves of bread available if you re mortgage your home. Fruit and veg over priced. The bacon and cheese guy is cool, as is the egg man, and the Japanese/Vietnamese place. Wish it had somewhat of a traditional market and a bit less shonky craft stalls. If it opened on Sundays with all traders and shut a couple of days midweek, it would benefit shoppers and traders. Otherwise it feels too much like a lifestyle choice for rich kids.
Pete H — Google review
Lively place with good produce, excellent vibe and a variety of food options. Great place for meat, veggie lovers alike with ample options for vegan diet as well! The place is more compact than some of the markets in London, understandably so. But the quality of food etc is good!
Ajit B — Google review
We passed by the open market on a Sunday noon and some of the shops were closed, but we liked the authentic feeling of it. There were a few local sellers offering freshly baked bread, colourful clothing and knits, books, and candlesThere are a few coffee shops offering coffee and food.

Undercliff Walk is a popular three-mile walking and cycling path that connects Brighton Marina to the Brighton & Hove City boundary. This picturesque coastal route offers stunning views of the ocean and white cliffs, making it a quintessential activity in Brighton. The easy terrain makes it suitable for everyone, and it's also a great way to escape the crowds while enjoying the scenic beauty. Along the way, visitors may have the chance to spot seals and admire rock pools at low tide.
Such a beautiful walk with rock pools and old tracks of the daddy longlegs at low tide

Walk beneath the cliffs from Brighton to Saltdean. The path is well built and easy to master, however nothing for stormy weather. I would recommend walking one way on the undercliff walk and the other way on top of the cliff, there is a path a little way back from the read. Alternatively one can take the bus for the way back.

This is a wonderful shared walk way and takes you all the way to Saltdean. Has stunning views out to sea and stunning cliffs to one side. A great place for a stroll or cycle. The other way takes you in to Brighton and it's many attractions.

We started the walk from Salt Dean and walked all the way back to Brighton Marina. This is a beautiful undercliff walk specially on a sunny weather like today. ☀️😎 Several public toilets in Brighton Marina and on the Undercliff at Ovingdean Gap, Rottingdean and Saltdean. A few cafes and restaurants in Brighton Marina and cafes on the Undercliff Walk at Ovingdean Gap, Rottingdean and Saltdean. Be careful as the pedestrian is shared by cyclist and dog walkers.

Brighton West Pier, a 19th-century pleasure pier, was destroyed by fire in 2003 and now stands as atmospheric remnants on the Brighton seafront. The Grade-listed pier has been part of a major regeneration scheme for Regency Square and the seafront. A futuristic tower has been commissioned to raise funds for rebuilding the historic pier and boost the city's economy.
A hauntingly beautiful landmark. The remains of the West Pier are iconic—especially at sunset when the silhouette glows against the sea. Great spot for photos and quiet reflection. Not much to do here, but it’s a must-see if you're in Brighton.

Slowly collapsing broken down pier. It's nice to look at However a seagull flew and stole my hotdog around here five years ago. 9/10 nice view Just wish I could go there with boat
Cornal W — Google review
Absolutely stunning when the sun sets behind the pier and it is so much better than the floating tourist trap down the road. So very atmospheric and makes for very eye catching photos!
Lucien G — Google review
There’s something eerily magnetic about Brighton’s West Pier. It doesn’t welcome you with amusements or cafés—it confronts you with absence. A skeletal silhouette rising from the sea, it’s less a structure than a memory made visible. And yet, I find it strangely captivating. Once a masterpiece of Victorian engineering, today, it’s a ruin, charred by fire, battered by storms, and slowly reclaimed by the sea. But in its decay, it has become something more: a monument to impermanence. At sunset, the twisted ironwork glows like a cathedral of rust. Seagulls circle its broken spires. Waves crash through its ribs. It’s cinematic, poetic, almost mythic. You don’t just look at it, you feel it. It’s as if the pier is performing its final act, night after night, for anyone willing to watch. The West Pier doesn’t offer entertainment. It offers reflection. It reminds us that beauty isn’t always polished, and that ruins can be more evocative than restorations. For me, it’s one of Brighton’s most compelling landmarks, not in spite of its collapse, but because of it.

Located in the basement of Brighton Town Hall, the Old Police Cells Museum offers a unique and intriguing experience. It provides a glimpse into Brighton's 200 years of policing and criminal history through its collection of memorabilia and tours of the former jail cells. Visitors can explore the stark and eerie cells, which were deemed unfit for use in 1929 but continued to be utilized for another 40 years, bearing witness to haunting graffiti left by incarcerated individuals.
We were lucky enough to be the only group on a Saturday morning, so our guide Peter tailored the tour to us, especially good for the children. We dressed up in police uniforms, did fingerprints, and learnt some interesting tidbits! Fun way to spend a rainy morning, thanks a lot Peter!
Emma N — Google review
Had a tour led by a former officer who admitted that the museum was rather haphazaradly-curated but they had recently hired someone to remedy this. A very informative hour on the history of policing. Retained more knowledge listening to someone talk rather than going around reading the descriptions and articles.

Brighton Beach, though covered in pebbles, is a popular spot for sunbathing and swimming during the English summer. The beachside promenade offers plenty to explore, making it an ideal place for a leisurely walk. Located on the west side of Brighton Palace Pier, this area boasts prominent attractions. A short one-hour train journey from London makes it a convenient escape for city dwellers seeking a day at the beach without traveling far.
Brighton Beach is one of my favourite places to spend time. The view of the sea is so wide and calming — just being there helps me relax and clear my mind. It’s a perfect spot for a peaceful walk, sitting by the shore, or just enjoying the sound of the waves. The atmosphere is always nice, and it’s a great escape from the busy city. Highly recommended for anyone who loves the sea and peaceful vibes.
Ghalia S — Google review
The beach is a great place to sit and relax but wow, it's got so rough compared to a few years ago. This isn't a place I'd spend more than a day at. Lots of hen parties, drunks and quite a few homeless people. It was unnerving and I will not be visiting again in a hurry. Much quieter/safer in Hove.

I really enjoy Brighton Beach and have visited multiple times. The beach itself is covered with pebbles, which I personally love. On this trip, I also had the chance to experience the Brighton i360, located right on the seafront. It’s a great spot if you want panoramic views from above. Unfortunately, the weather turned cloudy during our visit, so the views weren’t as clear as I had hoped. Still, I think I prefer pebble beaches over sandy ones, which is why Brighton remains one of my favourites.

Such an amazing vintage store. Every time I go in I see something new and it’s so interesting even if you don’t end up buying anything. Nice selection of so many vintage items you didn’t even know you needed — clothes, cute trinkets, cameras, records, silverware etc. Definitely give it a visit if you’re in the area!!

A great place to wander around whilst in Brighton. From Thunderbird toys to old cameras it has them all. Easily found down the Lanes just a few minutes from the station. Remember to take a look at the clothing upstairs. Lots of unusual pieces up there. I have managed to get clothing for Goodwood Revival up there. Well worth a visit.

I’m convinced most of these reviews are from tourists, hence why they’re so high. This place is great for a good rummage for 40 minutes or so, but the employees and rude and condescending if you don’t fit their ideals. My partner is from the states, he can get nervous in social situations, so when he was so blatantly disrespected by the cashier I knew I had to come on here and say something. The tone that was used and the glares he got were awful, all because he had to put a PIN code in a second time.

A lovely shop but miserable rude staff. Only one person at the counter with a big queue so I didn’t want to interrupt, waited and asked for a key, older man huffed and scolded me saying I didn’t have to queue for a key. ‘For future reference’ apparently. As if I would want to return after being talked to like a child. Can understand that it’s busy and you’re fed up, but doesn’t mean you have to be so painstakingly unpleasant to someone wanting to support small businesses. It’s free to be kind.

Snoopers Paradise is something that I've been looking for my whole life. Since a kid, I've always been snooping around in everything, drawers, charity shops, reduced isles, car boot sales, flea markets- and this place had it all! Boxes of old photos that use to belong to people, hug bags of vintage hats, and accessories. Old school Cameras, Guitars, Furniture, clothes clothes clothes'! Trinkets, just so much! It's so much fun to look through and I hope to come back again! I'd recommend it to anybody who loves to snoop. Brighton Pier is a popular tourist spot dominating the seafront with its traditional British charm. While it's not dog-friendly, the beachfront from the pier to the Marina welcomes furry friends and offers stunning sea views. Nearby, you can hop on the Volks Electric Railway, created by Victorian engineer Magnus Volks, providing a unique way to explore the area. Visitors can enjoy recreational activities and witness mesmerizing murmurations of starlings while taking in breathtaking views of the sea.

Brighton Palace Pier is the heart of the city’s seaside charm. A lovely place to stroll along the beach, enjoy the sea breeze, and take in the views — even when the waves are a little wild. Preston Manor is an elegant Georgian house located just outside Brighton, once belonging to the wealthy Stanford family. Preserved in Edwardian style, this 18th-century property offers a glimpse into the lives of Brighton's nobility over the past centuries. The manor features 20 rooms decorated in Edwardian fashion and a walled garden for visitors to explore.
Outstanding experience to get a very realistic overview of an edwardian manor. Great informations, social and historical elements are shared in every room. Very nice staff. The only regret is that opening hours are a little short : only end of the week and closed at 4 pm.

I was pleased to be able to visit the manor now that it has reopened. It's not huge, but interesting to walk around all 3 levels, from bedrooms, to formal rooms and below stairs. Possibly not suitable for those with limited mobility as the stairs from the basement are quite steep and narrow. The tea room had an interesting and varied choice. Not many tables inside, but it was nice, so we sat outside. The walled garden is very pretty, too.
Alison M — Google review
BRIGHTON’S HIDDEN GEM EDWARDIAN TIME CAPSULE of Edwardian life is back open to the public and its the best it’s ever been. I’ve visited Preston Manor many times over the last 3 decades. I often went as a child as I lived locally but my school didn’t do their amazing school trips fondly remembered by many locals. The revamp has really enhanced the visitor experience. It now really has the feel As if the family and their staff have just got up and popped out for a bit, but will be back any minute. You really do feel like you’re in a movie or a time slip back to the graceful Edwardian days. Don’t be put off by the not very decorative exterior because it hides stunning rooms inside. There is a new audio tour that you access on your phone via a QR code. The actors on the audio to take the personalities of the former residents both above and below stairs and this makes it really fun but also informative for all ages. All of the rooms on display really do feel like a movie set and of course it is very famous for its ghosts too, even appearing on Most Haunted for a full length episode. A wonderful new addition is the café which is situated in the former formal dining room. It’s run by Rust Café And it’s been very busy during the recent reopening, but queues have moved fast and the cafe staff are very friendly And very quick to clear tables, so that tables are clean and ready for the next visitor. We had a coffee, hot chocolate, hot cross bun, vegetarian pastry and vegan red velvet cake. The cake slice was so huge I had to ask for a box to take the rest of it home because even though I have a sweet tooth, I couldn’t eat that all in one go! The café has tables inside, but the outside part is on the manor’s lawns and on a lovely day it is very nice to sit out there. The Mum staff are very friendly and it is clear they really love the manor and its former occupants including the ones that refuse to leave and haunt the place. You must visit the walled garden and it contains a little pet cemetery for the dogs and cats of the manor with their tombstones still visible. Just outside the wall garden are the famous Twin Elms one of which sadly got Dutch Elm disease not its returned to its place with gold leaf inside. Entrance to the walled garden and the café are free. Your ticket price at the Manor includes repeated free visit for the manor for that year. Local get a discount for the admission fee. Obviously, I’m a big fan of Preston Manor and so is my husband. We even held our wedding reception there in 2023 because we wanted a haunted house themed wedding and the museum did not disappoint! If you’re interested in small group private dining or a small group wedding reception do contact the events team at the Brighton and Hove Museums trust. No trip to Brighton would be complete without visiting this hidden gem. The café doesn’t open all days and is open at weekends and bank holidays but if it continues to be so popular this might hopefully change as the café is a great addition. I think some reviewers have unrealistic expectations of a brand-new branch of a local independent café trying to run out of historical building which has only just reopened to the public and is super busy. Anyone complaint on a queue clearly never been into a chain coffee shop in Brighton because the wait is a lot longer in a chain coffee shop than when it’s very busy at Preston Manor’s cafe. People around us seem to be enjoying their food and drink. Plates were certainly left empty. You can get to Preston Manor from the city Centre by a short bus ride. To make the most out of your trip out, I would also recommend it visiting the free entry Brighton Rock Garden opposite the manor Locals know it as either the Rockery or the ROOKery.) It’s also worth exploring the mediaeval church next to Preston Manor and the churchyard around it. If you’re really lucky you may even bump into a ghost of one of the former residents or their small dogs that are said to still scamper happily around the place.

I took my two boys here yesterday for a Victorian Cooking Club and we had a fantastic time. As workshops go it was well timed, nicely paced and had good content. The staff were all so friendly, fun and knowledgeable about the house. They gave the children a tour of the dining room and withdrawing room, linking the relevance of the cooking aspect back to the daily life of the owners and then took them down into the basement kitchens and talked to them about the daily life of the maids and servants. The children then got to make 3 traditional items that may have made up part of the daily menu; a spinach and cheese pastry filled with mushrooms nutmeg and spring onion, a bread and butter pudding with custard made from scratch and hot cross buns, and finished off with a raspberry lemonade, which was taken home in a glass jar. All the food was taken home to be eaten. I want to thank the staff for an enjoyable and educational day, and even the welcome we had at the door made us feel like they were all really happy to have us there.

Lovely experience, the audioguide on Connects adds a lot to it, it is narrated "by the inhabitants" of the house. The exhibition's are nicely interactive for the kids. The gardens are gorgeous. The staff was lovely and we enjoyed a lunch in the café in the building.

Nature & Parks
Queen's Park is a 15-acre urban oasis that offers a variety of activities for visitors. Whether you're in the mood for a leisurely stroll, an invigorating bike ride, or a game of tennis, this park has something for everyone. The park features leafy gardens, a central pond, and even a wildlife garden created by a local herbalist. Visitors can also enjoy regular concerts and events held within the park.
Great park, with lots of open space to play, a small cafe on the road around the outside of the park, entrance approaching from west drive, one toilets in the children's park, areas for dogs, a quiet garden, tennis courts, ducks to feed and a large pond.
Jade C — Google review
Fabulous park came to feed the ducks bit unfortunately it was more like feed the seagulls. The pond was covered in green stuff. But does have a brill play park for kids of all ages and a cafe. Plus a little sand pit area

Queens Park in Brighton has always held a special place in my heart. It was the first park I often visited when I first moved here, and over the years, it has become a backdrop to so many of my memories. From quiet strolls to sunny afternoons on the grass, the park has a warm, welcoming feel that never fails to lift my spirits. It’s more than just a green space… it’s a part of my story in this city
Seenivas C — Google review
This has just been refurbished and if you have little children it's great, nothing for the kids 9 upwards. There's a cafe that sells everything from sandwiches, hotdogs, ice cream, toasties etc. There is usually only one person servicing so be prepared to queue. Watch out for the hoards of seagulls that are waiting to snatch your just purchased food, this has happened to myself several times. The toilets are the absolute worst. Unclean, smelly and rancid. Myself and children refuse to use them. There is a pond which is home to some beautiful and rather tame ducks, geese and swans. The pond itself is relatively clean but has got bits of rubbish here and there. There is also a side park which has a luminous green trickle of water through it that once upon a time you could see the tadpoles and frogs but not anymore. There are lots and lots of squirrels, a few are tame and will come and take the nuts from your hand which is an absolute delight. There is a supposedly separate dog area but when we visited there were a few dogs in the actual park area. By the side of the pond there is a large green playing area and also a few tennis courts by the clock tower. All in all the park equipment is okay for young children, the cafe be prepared to queue and some things are pricey and it is cash only. Avoid the toilets if at all possible. Look out for dogs loose in the children's park. Bring bird seed for the ducks and geese, I and monkey nuts for the squirrel and the swans love lettuce. Just be mindful that the large green area by the lake has had a few groups of people getting merry and can be quite boisterous and sometimes intimidating for children.

A really nice place to relax and chill.
Preechaya R — Google review
I love going to Queens park, it is a lovely place to go during all months of the year. In autumn, the colorful leaves are specially beautiful to admire. There are many dogs in the park playing, and there are dog-free zones as well. There's a children's park, a lovely pond and lots of green space. My favourite activity is to feed the squirrels and ducks around the park. The squirrels are quite friendly and will fetch peanuts from your hand, or you can throw them in their direction, it's a nice place to go for a refreshing walk. I will say that there are stone paths around the park if you don't want to step in the grass, but the park itself is a bit steep, going up and down, night be an issue if you have special mobility needs.
Marjorie N — Google review
Lovely park with wildlife pond in the middle with lots of waterfowl such as geese moorhens, ducks & swans. Plenty of benches to sit and relax. There’s playground for kids and 6 tennis courts. We found a group doing yoga in the park. There’s wildlife garden too. The Open bakery is such a lovely café! Nice to treat your self before your relaxing short stroll in the park.
Richard Q — Google review
Beautiful park to visit on a sunny day. There are some tennis court nearby and a play area for the kids. Could use some toilets especially on the kids play section. The grass needs to be maintained by the kids play area. There is a lovely pond , some chairs to sit and enjoy the view or read a book 📖.

We absolutely loved our time at the sauna for the Full moon experience this evening ! Such a warm welcome with clear and simple explanations, super relaxing treatments and great snacks. Couldn't recommend it more !

I love the Beach Box Sauna and what it offers…not only the saunas, the beautiful salt rubs and clay masks but the space to totally unwind and relax with others. We hired the whole venue to accommodate large group of women for two hours and it was absolutely brilliant. The staff are great and the place was cleaned in between each session. The attention to detail as well just makes it even nicer. Thank you from all the foxy ladies running club members!

One of my favourite spots for a Sauna. And just treated myself to the block of 10 sessions ahead of the winter months. I have been to a number of events as well including the women events, Christmas Eve (which was magical) and a full moon. Theres something about connecting in a sauna. Treated friends, made new friends, had dates and been on solo trips. Just love it. Staff are lovely. Highly recommend.

I bought a voucher for a friend as a birthday present and yesterday we both went and spent two lovely hours in the 'Loyly' sauna. I had wondered how well it would work, being in a 'horse box' on a cloudy November afternoon but it turned out to be the perfect way to while away the day! The sauna is lovely and hot, but not too hot to be unbearable and the range of cold baths, showers and buckets are the perfect complement. Then, right at the end, we were all given a piece of orange and treated to a lovely lavendar ice bomb! I can't recommend this enough - makes a great gift. My friend was really pleased!
NoodlDoodlz — Google review
Amazing welcome, brilliant facilities, really well explained and lovely staff. It got a bit crowded in the cold pools and I gave up a couple of times. The only reason for 4 and not 5 stars is it would be perfect if it was closer to the shore and made easier for a dip in the sea. Other than that, it was amazing and a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning.

St Ann’s Well Gardens is a charming city park in Brighton and Hove, offering a mix of wooded and landscaped areas. The park features a playground, scented garden, and a delightful cafe for visitors to enjoy. Legend has it that the park's Chalybeate Spring was formed from the tears of Annafrieda, adding an air of mystic romanticism to the surroundings.
Always a pleasure to spend time here. It would be nice to see a new more benches does along the woodland paths as it's quite difficult for the elderly and infirmed with the inclines. Despite being small, there are lots of different areas to explore. We enjoyed the scented sensory garden, the newts in the pond, the play park, feeding the many squirrels, watching the tennis. The only problem was the garden Cafe which is a criminal rip off with its£7 for two pieces of bread and one slice of cheap thin bacon. We've been double charged too many times for it to be an incident mistake too. So bring a picnic and a blanket and just nip to the cafe for the odd coffee or icecream

Hove Park is a sprawling public park with lush lawns, colorful flower beds, and tall trees, providing a perfect setting for leisurely walks and outdoor activities. The park offers various amenities including playgrounds, sports facilities such as football pitches, tennis and basketball courts, and an outdoor gym. Visitors can also enjoy the miniature steam railway and the Fingermaze sculpture. It's an ideal spot for picnics or feeding ducks at the large pond.
Large park with a variety of things to do. A well maintained playground that is sectioned off from dogs, a wide, rolling path encircles the whole park with plenty of benches and bins along the way. Great for runners but maybe not cyclists as there are a lot of dogs and children running about. It’s very family friendly and there are football and basketball courts, toilets, climbing rocks, a slide, a model railway and large patches of grass for picnics.

The park serves as a pleasant escape for a leisurely stroll after a long day in the city. Surrounding the area are several amenities, including a café, tennis courts, and a miniature railway. Hidden gem of Brighton. Almost passed by then realised that there’s a lot of stuff under the chandler. The Level is a reasonably sized park located right in the centre of Brighton. There's a decent amount of green space, sectioned off by a walkway that runs through the park—making it a handy shortcut to London Road or other parts of the city. It's generally a pleasant walk during the day, though like with most places, I'd be a bit cautious in the evenings. The park features a skate park that’s popular with kids on BMX bikes and skateboards, plus a water splash area and enough play equipment to keep younger children entertained (and worn out!). It’s definitely a family-friendly spot. That said, the park could benefit from a bit of tidying up here and there. It’s not bad by any means, just needs a bit of care to really shine. Parking can be a challenge since it’s in the city centre—expect it to be both difficult and expensive. If you're driving, it’s best to plan ahead. I've been coming to The Level for as long as I can remember, and it's always been a staple of Brighton. It even hosts the fair every now and then during the summer, which adds to its charm.

National Trust - Devil's Dyke is a stunning V-shaped valley located about six miles from Brighton, England. It was a popular tourist spot in the early 20th century due to its mysterious formation and remains of historical structures like an Iron Age fort and Victorian railway line. Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is part of the South Downs, offering picturesque walking trails with breathtaking views.

We visited here in early January and it was beautiful in the snow. The views along the walk were lovely. We went for a walk and stopped to have fun in the snow throwing snowballs. However, it was extremely picturesque and definitely worth visiting if you like walking with a wonderful view.

An absolutely beautiful, iconic treasure of Brighton- a must visit for all ages. Walking through the Dyke itself isn't too strenuous and is a really peaceful, grounding experience. I love walking through with my son or on my own- it's great for kids who enjoy nature as insects, wildflowers and birds are abundant. If you aren't able or in the mood to traverse the steep hill, there are large flat walking areas as well which are just as much of a treasure to experience with stunning views. People often fly kites, walk their dogs and just enjoy the space no matter the weather. It's really a special part of Brighton and so easy to get to by hopping on a 77 bus. There is also a pub/hotel which has AMAZING chips which are a must, as well as toilets when needed.

The hike takes around 2 to 3 hours depending on your pace, and every part of the trail feels rewarding. There are plenty of photo spots, and the panoramic view from the top is just stunning. It’s well-maintained by the National Trust, with good walking paths and clear signboards. Whether you’re hiking solo, with friends, or with family, this place is perfect to refresh your mind and enjoy nature. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the South Downs area! 🌿🥾

The Chattri Memorial is a serene and poignant tribute to the Indian soldiers who fought in WW1 and died in a makeshift hospital at the Royal Pavilion. The tranquil setting offers a somber atmosphere, honoring the soldiers' sacrifice. It's an unusual and unexpected landmark that's worth visiting for its historical significance.

Terry H — Google review
After the roundabout, there is a few parking space on the road... If you follow the SATNAV, then you are in for a difficult walk. There is a small road on the left after the roundabout and the public pathway on the corner with a sign that says Chattri Memorial.. It's a 25 min walk from there to the Chattri. You can see it on the walk up. A great place for peace and quiet with views of Brighton and South Downs. A great memorial for the Indian Soldiers who fought in the wars. They were cremated here and the Chattri stands as a proud monument for their service.. Plenty of farm life on the walk if you like cows and sheep.. Definitely a place to visit, especially if you are of Indian Heritage...
Bhavesh K — Google review
Beautiful serene setting creating a sombre atmosphere paying homage to the Indian soldiers who fought in WW1 and died in the makeshift hospital in Royal Pavilion. The location is not easily accessible, we took the bridle path and walked for around 45 mins to reach the monument. The path is quite steep and uphill. There is a narrow road which is where Google map was suggesting to use but we parked just off the main road and walked.

Beautiful place set in the Ditching Beacons. Parked at jack and Jill windmill car park and is about 45-1hr walk to it. There is a nice little horse wagon cafe also by the car park. Once you get there there are lovley views and a bit of history on the monument. Great walk

A lovely, peaceful place with a great view. A perfect place to show respect for the fallen hero's of the war. Great walk as well and definitely recommend visiting.
Ian R — Google review
Lovely & peaceful place to visit, however... ignore google & stop earlier ( just before you see the big red feeding box in the field)- go through the gate ,up the hill and around the trees! I ended up cutting across/ climbing fences & shredding legs! It’s very uphill to get there but the walk back is really nice.
Janet R — Google review
What a way to honour all those Indian army personnel in the British army who lost their lives during WW1! This was where those who passed away were cremated according to their own faiths. There are 3 concrete slabs indicating these cremation places. A very peaceful and quiet place! When we visited the Chattri, it was so misty, it gave an unusual atmosphere to the site!

Brighton Naturist Beach, the first place in Britain to allow naked bathing, initially sparked controversy among locals. Some argued that it would attract unwanted attention and be offensive. The area is clean and suitable for skinny dipping, with nearby parking available. However, the beach is visible from the seafront buildings. Signposted as LGBT+ friendly, it offers a relaxed atmosphere and clear waters for swimming.
Going here was not really planned but hey ho, I was passing and decided to give it a go. The area is clearly marked out as a naturist beach and you can plonk yourself anywhere you like. I was fortunate to have a really nice day with very little breeze and I felt comfortable stripping down and basking in the sunshine. The beach is pebbles, as with most beaches in Brighton, so definitely take a towel with you as I certainly will when I next return. Everyone there was just happy enjoying the sunshine and freedom, and no one bothered me as I lay there. If you go just be confident and strip off as you will see all shapes and sizes. Not recommended on a chilly day though 🤭

A bit cold but beautiful sunshine and calm sea. Quite a few guys went in the water for a swim. Lovely beach. Happy memories. Now gone. The beach here is now no longer available. It has become part of the "modernization" where you can only walk on set paths through non existent plants. This area is no longer natural in any way. And so it goes..... A pool for only the very privaliged No normal resident can access it. Just another " private use" area paid for by Brighton citizens who have no access to it..
Stella S — Google review
In my person experience I felt very safe as a single woman, went for it and even had a swim. Beach wasn't too packed but I didn't have any issues with creeps or unwanted interactions, would definitely go back.
Osiris — Google review
My partner and I are naturists and enjoyed our visit here. There were plenty of single men enjoying sunbathing and swimming but very few couples or single women. We visited in mid-July on a Wednesday. It was a very hot 25 degrees, so a dip in the sea would have been ideal, but the waves were a little too rough due to the wind for our liking, unfortunately. It is a shame the beach is pebbly, so it's not that comfortable to lay on, but we enjoyed our time here. We saw a couple of men openly masturbating on the beach, but not over anything in particular, just to make you aware.

Perfect weather Definitely will visit again 😉
Phil W — Google review
Went there today with my wife. The sun was out for a tan all over. Plenty of couples and single men around. Only dissapointment the beach is pebbley we prefer sand.
Brian W — Google review
Very peaceful and safe vibe, everyone was chilled and minding their own business, even though many of the guys were checking each other out. Plenty women present showed how safe and comfortable it feels there. Perfect spot for a relaxed weekend break.
Rod S — Google review
Went for a beach morning on a lovely hot day with a few female friends. Parked 4 hours for free at the marina car park, which is a 10 min walk away. The beach steward informed us that parking on the coastal road was very expensive, so we made the right choice on that front. Very chilled atmosphere, no rubbish about on the beach either. Sea was lovely and clear. Advice to be prepared for walking on pebbles right down to the sea. Sandals won't cut the mustard, it's very uncomfortable on bare feet, so bring an old pair of trainers you can use in the sea.

National Parks
National Trust - Saddlescombe Farm and Newtimber Hill offers a moderate walk starting at the Newtimber Hill sign, leading through Saddlescombe Farm and an old chalk quarry with panoramic views over Devil's Dyke valley. The area is accessible year-round, but the farm is closed outside of lambing season. Parking is limited due to it being a working farm, and there are no toilets or disabled parking available.
Working farm with some interesting historic features in a peaceful South Downs setting. Small amount of free parking across the road from the farm, or a very scenic walk from Devil's Dyke. The old barn houses a range of old agricultural implements, and well produced information boards charting the farm's history. The highlight is the donkey wheel, originally used to raise water from a well beneath the farm. It's very well preserved and a rare survival of its type. Visitor facilities at the farm include an independently run café with some unusual food and drink options and plenty of outdoor seating, and toilet facilities. Newtimber Hill is a pleasant area of chalk downland countryside yielding fine views on a clear day.
Andrew T — Google review
Part of a full day's very scenic walking enjoying the landscape but at the time was unaware tht the farm actually has a history dating back over 1,000 years, with evidence of human settlement from the Mesolithic and Bronze Ages. It was once owned by the Knights Templar and has been home to various farming families over the centuries. And we found Wildflour Café as well which was very nice.
Ross D — Google review
Lovely spot. Marvellous walk from the Devil's Dyke. Beautiful on a clear day. Very old water wheel and fantastic cafe on the farm. Well worth a visit.
Matt C — Google review
Great sunny day out with my partner! Found via national trust website, parking can be quite difficult. The walks and views around the farm were beautiful! Also had a cafe which had great food and drinks! Rated 4 stars as we expected the farm to be more open to the public would class this as a walk next to a private farm. Would still recommend as a day out
Alex C — Google review
This was our second visit. Brilliant place to pause and eat whilst walking in the area. We walked from Devils Dyke and it was a welcome break before making our way back up to to the car park. It's also very popular with walkers doing the South Downs Way as it passes through the farm. We shared a delicious wrap, as shown in the attached photo.
Christopher J — Google review
Some interesting history about the farm and local areas Had a lovely cafe with outside seating
Andy G — Google review
Wild downland that is great for flowers and butterflies. Very limited parking off road opposite and none for visitors at the farm itself. Make time to call at the Wildflour Cafe in the farm buildings

Omg. I love this little farm. This National Trust property with campsite, is located about five miles north of Brighton, right in the heart of the South Downs National Park, along the South Downs Way and a stone's throw from Devil's Dyke

Libraries
Jubilee Library, located in Brighton, is a remarkable architectural achievement that has garnered prestigious awards and recognition. Inspired by its surroundings and the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, the library features unique design elements such as mathematical tiles rarely found elsewhere. It is renowned for its extensive book collection, comfortable reading areas, and helpful staff, making it a haven for book enthusiasts. The library offers an inviting atmosphere and tranquil environment ideal for immersing oneself in literature.
Situated at jubilee street bang opposite La iguanas restaurant. Huge and Amazing library.. quite spacious. Nice books and facilities. They have sections for kids, teens, adults .. they have computers which members can use for free.. print out facility.. toilets and cafeteria facilities.. the staff is warm.amd friendly and very easy process of becoming a member..
Sohail S — Google review
Second time to the Jubilee library. Lovely environment, great faclitlites. Just generally a lovely library. Only to be spoilt by a lady asking me to move whilst I was charging my phone and studying in the so-called 19 year old section. Which to begin with is agest and discriminatory. But I guess people over the age of 19 aren't aloud to study anymore or charge their phones. I found the whole experience totally uncalled for. Library management and staff need to read the room and local area better.
David L — Google review
Wednesday 1st October 2025 : Whilst the library has potentially great facilities, it’s just so noisy. Screaming kids running around, people talking so loudly, not at all a ‘library experience’ study area upstairs very small individual areas and packed in barely arms shoulder width study areas not contained so again noisy with people munching snacks constantly or EarPods so loud you can hear their music blasting away as pods are so crammed in. If you want to take more than one device to use and charge such as phone , iPad and laptop bring an extension socket as only one single socket in each area. This is my first visit so I’m hoping this is just a bad day and this isn’t the norm. There was a seated area with more relaxing space downstairs much more study appropriate but you had to be between 13 and 19 to use it? Not great for anyone over this age studying for a degree or general interest. Other library’s I’ve been too have enclosed study pods that are floor to ceiling contained pods with small desk and high rise chair same as here but allows for study and silence and don’t take up much more space than the space, think with the level of noise in this library contained study’s pods should be considered especially as a university town. But I’ll try again and see how it goes another time, couldn’t concentrate today though.
Sara W — Google review
A wonderful library with a beautiful children's section. They also have very clean bathrooms. Well done Brighton.
Tim C — Google review
Well worth a visit. Always found something worth reading. Cool in summer, not unduly so. Quiet and with a good vibe.
Rachel — Google review
The woman I talked with today at around 11 00 am in the BIPC provided an excellent customer service. Flawless, she is great. 6 stars if I could.
Fede P — Google review
beautiful building and facility, but mixed clientele, lots of people sleeping and charging their phones, coughing and bad smelling; not very easy to concentrate and do work
Tommy R — Google review
Libraries are few and very far between. 'Family friendly' extends its worth way beyond just books and study. Wonderful children's section. Popular study areas. Friendly efficient staff. Small cafe. Toilets on both floors. Easy access. Gift shop. Use it or lose it.
