Muzeiko is a unique children's museum in Sofia, offering an immersive and interactive experience for kids and families. It combines science, curiosity, and imagination to encourage learning through play. With over 130 exhibits covering natural sciences, inventions, a planetarium, child-size city replicas, archaeology, and more, there's something for everyone to enjoy. The museum provides information in both English and Bulgarian to ensure accessibility. Visitors praise the well-organized layout and friendly staff while highlighting the reasonable prices.
Muzeiko was such an amazing experience! It's definitely one of the most fun and educational places to visit with kids in Sofia. The interactive exhibits were perfect for all ages especially the space and nature sections, which were super engaging. The kids had a blast doing handson experiments while learning at the same time. The design of the museum is modern and spacious, and the staff was really friendly and helpful. Time flew by. We'd absolutely go again!
Recep G — Google review
Our family absolutely loved Muzeiko in Sofia! This children's science center is amazing, with many floors packed with hands-on exhibits on topics from archaeology to animals. We easily spent hours there; the kids were so engaged, they didn't want to leave! Highly recommended for a fun and educational.

Very interesting place for all ages. My kid love it. We spend more than 3 hours in it. The cafe shop has very resonable prices.

Fantastic place to learn how the things that we use or live works. Actually for small and big. We loved it and our small daughter was amazed. It’s a perfect place for kids. This should be every city as part of education. Mandatory.
Jan B — Google review
My kids loved the museum. It's set up that bottom level is past (that was our favorite), middle floor was present and top floor was future.
Miriam L — Google review
It's a great place, can be little bit big. The outside area was so hot

Cathedral
Architectural Buildings
The Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky is a renowned Bulgarian Orthodox church featuring stunning Neo-Byzantine architecture and an underground museum. Constructed between 1882 and 1912, it stands as one of the most significant landmarks in Sofia, honoring Russian soldiers who fought for Bulgaria's liberation from Turkish rule. This grand cathedral, named after a 13th-century Russian prince, is not only a place of worship but also a top photographic site in the city.
What a stunning cathedral! When the doors are open, step inside. Just make sure to do so respectfully. Yes, it's beautiful to look at, but it's still a working cathedral so keep voices down and know when NOT to take photos. Downstairs is a museum of icons. Near the cathedral in the park is a market with vendors selling Soviet-era trinkets and more.
Austin G — Google review
This place is stunning. The cathedral looks amazing, the entrance is free, but donations can be made, there are special boxes inside. Also, there is a small shop at the entrance, there you can buy souvenirs and candles. The place is not very crowded, we arrived in a Sunday evening and there were no issues. Definitely worth visiting when in Sofia.
Dany P — Google review
Breathtaking 🙏😳🥰 I had tears in my eyes by just entering the door. We were walking outside the building, 2 police officers and security waved at us, showed us the door. The building outside is stunning already, but when you stepped inside, it's just take your breath away. Serene, quiet, no tourists We took a lot of pictures, searching for a little corner and pray🙏 I love it.
Just M — Google review
Sofia’s most iconic and grand cathedral, and its size combined with its stunning architecture gives it a truly commanding presence. Construction: Built between 1882 and 1912 to honor Russian soldiers who died during the Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878), which liberated Bulgaria from Ottoman rule. Architectural Style: Neo-Byzantine, with striking gold-plated domes and intricate frescoes inside. Capacity: Can accommodate up to 5,000 people, making it one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world. Features: Lavish interior with marble columns, mosaics, icons, and a massive iconostasis. Significance: Serves as the patriarchal cathedral of Bulgaria, a national symbol of faith, history, and Bulgarian liberation.
Ivy N — Google review
Such a wonderful cathedral and the largest in the Balkans. It's Neo-Byzantine style is glamorous and admirable. The artwork and chandeliers were such an eyesight. The cathedral is a symbol of Sofia and must visit. There was no wait time during the week and no tickets. A small donation to light up a candle is a nice idea. The crowd was very low.
Ash — Google review
I was lucky enough to walk in during service and it was magical. There was a beautiful choir singing and the sound was spectacular. I was in tears. The building and the energy almost commands you to be present. The visitors were very respectful. A must visit. I would assume Saturday afternoon is when they have a service.
Lefteris M — Google review
The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is one of the city’s greatest landmarks and among the most impressive Orthodox cathedrals in the Balkans. Built between 1904 and 1912 in Neo-Byzantine style, it was dedicated to the Russian soldiers who helped free Bulgaria from Ottoman rule. Its golden domes, visible from many parts of the city, create a majestic sight, especially under the soft afternoon light. Entry is free, though there’s a small fee for those wishing to take photos inside, where marble, alabaster, and beautifully aged frescoes adorn the space. Even just walking around it, it’s impossible not to be impressed by the monument’s scale and symbolism.
Luana B — Google review
Its interesting to see the difference between the different kind of cathedrals. However, other visitors not respecting the place makes it less of a nice experience. The place should be quiet and they ask to make no photos of the inside. However most visitors are loud and are constantly taking pictures and not watching where they are walking. A stronger enforcement from the church side would make it a more pleasant experience.

The Ivan Vazov National Theater, an impressive neoclassical structure, has been a cultural hub in Bulgaria since its opening in 1907. Despite sustaining damage during World War II, the theater was restored and continues to offer a diverse program of stage productions. Situated at the heart of the city and surrounded by the serene city garden, it captivates tourists not only with its captivating performances but also with its charming architecture and tranquil ambiance.
Just visited the National Theater Ivan Vazov, and the whole area around it is such a perfect chill spot! The theater’s architecture really reminded me of the Bolshoi — super grand and elegant. I didn’t go inside, but just being there was a vibe. The park in front is awesome for sitting, people-watching, and just taking in the city. There are plenty of comfy benches under nice trees, and restaurants around to grab food and enjoy a picnic. The water fountain keeps the area nice and breezy, even during the hot peak times. If you're exploring Sofia, it's definitely worth stopping by to relax and enjoy the atmosphere!

National Museum in Sofia – A Fascinating Stop in the Heart of the City We visited the National Museum in Sofia, right in the middle of the city, and it was such a fascinating experience. I even heard that parts of the collection are made from gold, which was incredible to see up close. I’m so glad we made the trip here. The museum really helps you understand the depth of Bulgaria’s history and culture, and the city itself is beautiful to explore on foot. ✨ Final thought: If you’re in Sofia, take the time to walk around and don’t miss the museum. It’s both educational and awe-inspiring.

Even just visiting the exterior, the Ivan Vazov National Theatre is one of the city’s most charming landmarks. Built in a neoclassical style, it’s an architectural gem and considered one of the most important and beautiful buildings in Sofia. The façade, with six sturdy columns supporting the triangular pediment where Apollo and the Muses of the Arts are depicted, is truly magnificent. The theatre sits across from a lovely park with fountains, making it the perfect spot for photos or a relaxing break.

This is the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, the oldest and most prestigious theatre in Bulgaria, founded in 1904. Its elegant neoclassical façade with the iconic twin towers makes it one of Sofia’s most photographed landmarks. The theatre is home to Bulgaria’s top actors and offers world-class drama performances, while the surrounding City Garden is a favorite spot for locals to relax.

A fun one, especially for kiddos and everyone interested in topics about animals and the natural world. The only disadvantage is that the museum is pretty old school and hasn't been renovated in a while. The information plates have been the same ever since my first visit there some 15 years ago.
Vanesa N — Google review
Very well organized and complete. It carries decades of detailed collection, curation and preservation. Someone would say that the interior looks aged and worn but actually it is a part of it's charm. Personally , If I knew the range of the collections I would dedicate more hours and I would refresh my basic knowledge around geology and zoology so I could comprehend more details.

Nestled on the outskirts of Sofia, Boyana Church is a captivating medieval Bulgarian Orthodox church that has earned its place as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This charming structure boasts stunning frescoes from the 11th to 13th centuries, showcasing some of the finest examples of Bulgarian medieval artistry. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions like Boyana Lake and the Dendarium, which offers picturesque walking paths and family-friendly facilities.
This historic monument has been well preserved and maintained. It feels calm due to the park and the trees around. You need to buy a ticket to enter inside and view the frescoes. Although they are from 1255, it's really well preserved. Once you enter inside the small church with a ticket, you have 10 minutes to admire the artwork. The basic amenities are well maintained. The only annoying thing was that there was no way to regulate the entry and one had to stand in the queue. There are quite a lot of buses that ply to the church everyday and are well connected with public transport.
Arun K — Google review
There’s not much to see at all… until you enter inside the church (for a fee)! To be honest, I don’t think I would have been able to appreciate as much the inside as well, if we didn’t have an actual tour guide to explain things. Do note that the interior of the church is small. And entry inside is timed by the caretaker to 8~10minutes per group. The main attractions were seeing the three parts of the church and the many beautiful frescoes inside which told so many different stories - interestingly, both Biblical and of the local history of the region. The small church itself is located in the compound of a botanical garden, but the garden itself didn’t seem to have anything unique about it. Boyana Church is one of Bulgaria’s 10 UNESCO Wolrd Heritage Sites.
ARBN — Google review
WOW. Absolutely stunning! Talk to the kind, gentle and knowledgeable guide inside and he will explain the frescos, the history, the significance. You're supposed to only get 10 minutes, but as there was no one waiting to come in we chatted for about half an hour. An absolute gem of a place and we'll worth a short ride out of the city. The area is lovely to walk and perhaps head up the mountain too.
Rick — Google review
Boyana Church located at the quiet place around 10 min drive from the Sofia city center! Its historically importance makes it unique and recognized by UNSECO! Its entrance allowed only 8-10 people for 10 min and then the cycles repeat. It’s small and decent! Not that recommended if you don’t have much time in Sofia!
Frank Y — Google review
Peaceful and beautiful monastery This monastery is truly a hidden gem – peaceful, green, and with a calming, almost spiritual atmosphere. The architecture is stunning, and the whole area feels very well preserved and serene. Just behind the monastery, there’s also a trail that leads into the forest – a perfect spot for a quiet walk in nature. Highly recommended for anyone looking to relax, reflect, and enjoy some beautiful scenery.
Eyal L — Google review
The Boyana Church is quite small, but truly impressive. It’s amazing to see 13th-century frescoes still so well preserved. Entry is limited to 10 people at a time, so there’s usually a short wait and the visit itself is only a few minutes. Unfortunately, photography is not allowed, which is a pity since the frescoes are beautiful. The surrounding park is also lovely, with a couple of sequoia trees adding to the atmosphere.
Simone S — Google review
Recommend to not visit this church. I have nothing against any religious house, but this church has unfortunately been turned into a tourist attraction. And imagine the extention of the idiocy of the church managers: they put written message on the ticket office that 'Today the tickets are sold out'. Even if we were there during the working hours posted here on google. I asked them what this means? Does this mean that we cannot enter the church? Of course I got the answer yes. I explained to them that I have never seen this kind of rudeness anywhere in the whole world. Sold out tickets for entering a church!!! This is not a cinema projection, nor a theater performance, nor a concert. Unfortunately and for the sake of truth, they have turned this church into a money-printing machine. The managers will pay for their Christian sin with interest. For sure 🙏
Svetlana L — Google review
Very small, very old church. You can only visit for 10 minutes. It’s full of beautiful frescoes - no photos allowed. An entry fee applies (it was 12 leva each for us).

The National Museum of History in Sofia, Bulgaria, is a comprehensive showcase of the country's rich history. Established in 1973, it houses over 650,000 items spanning from prehistoric artifacts to relics from the communist era. Situated at the Boyana complex near Vitosha Mountain, this expansive museum features permanent and temporary exhibitions along with a digital library.
Great museum with a huge collection covering Bulgaria’s history. The building is impressive, and there’s even a small café for a break. Plan enough time to see it all — a must-visit in Sofia.
Yuliia T — Google review
Good rainy day activity that gives a full overview of Bulgarian history from Stone Age to the presence. A great introduction for people who are new to Bulgaria. There are lots of English instructions as well although some parts of history were described in less detail than others. Still very worthwhile.
Jasmin V — Google review
It's an interesting museum - but try to come by public transport or by car, on foot it's a challenge. You have to buy your ticket outside the museum which are located in front and middle of the building. The collection is well explained ( in Bulgarian and English). Spend at least 2-3 hours to get a good grasp.
Lorenzo C — Google review
Great museum taking visitors through history of Bulgaria (from prehistoric times to Bulgaria's accesion to UE). The building is monumental and breathtaking from both the outside and inside. However it's located far away from the centre of the city (on other hand you have here amizing view at Vitosha mountains) but near the museum are located bus and tram stops.

As you would expect it was intricately informative and a great insight into the rich history that makes Bulgaria so amazing. The beautiful historic pieces are displayed nicely so you can get up close to them which is nice, and they also have some interactive displays which kids will love. Our guest, and us, really enjoyed the museum and would highly recommend a visit. There were 2 souvenir shops on site that we saw to purchase a little keepsake.

It's a very good museum, has history. There are also a tourist coins called Bulgarian legacy which are around whole Bulgaria and are fun to collect.

I really enjoyed visiting this museum — it’s beautifully arranged and gives a clear picture of Bulgaria’s long and fascinating history. What impressed me the most was the numismatics section, where I saw incredibly interesting ancient coins and even forms of money used before coins existed.

The Central Mosque of Sofia, also known as Banya Bashi Mosque, is a stunning architectural gem dating back to the 16th-century Ottoman Empire. It stands as one of the oldest and largest mosques in Sofia, Bulgaria. The mosque's design showcases a large dome and minaret, reflecting its unique architectural style. Situated near thermal baths, it serves as a significant monument to Bulgaria's Islamic history and Ottoman past.
Visitors to the mosque are always welcome, and it provides an opportunity to learn more about Bulgaria's Muslim community and the rich cultural diversity of Sofia. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, or just looking for a peaceful spot to reflect, the Central Mosque of Sofia is a must-visit site. The mosque is beautifully maintained, and the staff is friendly and accommodating.
MUHAMMAD S — Google review
As someone with a deep appreciation for architecture, Banya Bashi Mosque completely captivated me. The structure is modest in size, but its design speaks volumes. The blend of stone and red brickwork, the perfectly proportioned dome, and the graceful minaret give the mosque a timeless elegance that holds its own in Sofia’s urban center. Inside, I was struck by the vivid red and blue frescoes—bold, geometric, and full of character. They add warmth and energy to the interior without overwhelming it. The way the natural light filters in and dances over the curved walls and arches brings the entire space to life. An especially fascinating detail: the mosque is built over natural thermal springs, and you can feel that subtle warmth underfoot—a quiet, living element in the architecture itself. This space is more than a historical site; it’s a masterpiece of form, color, and purpose. A must-visit for anyone who sees buildings as stories told in stone, light, and pattern.

Hey, we are Vicky 🇵🇪 and Malte 🇩🇪 from the travel blog Traveling Is Our Passion. For our full one-day Sofia itinerary, check out our blog! The Banya Bashi Mosque is one of the few active mosques in Sofia and a reminder of the city’s Ottoman past. Built in the 16th century, it’s still used for daily prayers today. The location makes it easy to visit since it’s right next to the Central Market Hall. Non-Muslim visitors can step inside outside of prayer times, but remember to dress respectfully. Even if you just admire it from the outside, the mosque adds an interesting layer to Sofia’s diverse cultural history.

It's very beautiful inside, fill with detailed, really recommend to visit when you go to Sofia, if you don't have any veil, you can borrow it from the mosque

The Banya Bashi Mosque is a fascinating remnant of Ottoman heritage in the city centre: built in the mid-16th century. The structure uses stone and brick, with a large central dome supported on a cubic base — a rare detail in the region. The name “Banya Bashi” (“many baths”) refers to the thermal springs running beneath the building, still visible through vents of steam in places.

Absolutely gorgeous. I visited as a single female and was nervous about how to enter, but it's very easy. You just take your shoes off at the entrance and there are a bunch of scarves in a basket at the door to use while you are inside. I visited on a public holiday, and there are no fees to enter.

Boyana Waterfall is a natural attraction located in the Vitosha mountain range, just a short drive from Sofia City Center. The area offers hiking trails with panoramic city views and leads to the highest waterfall in the park. Visitors can also explore other notable spots such as Kominite, Ofeliite, Belite brezi, Boyana Lake, Dendarium area, 'Aleko' chalet and more.
lovely hike through the woods. there are two options for the path: the green and the red, the green being the calmer hike and the red more dangerous and steeper. we took the green route and it was very nice - all shaded, about an hour and a half climb. the path on the way up doesn’t really flatten out it’s mostly uphill but the scenery is so picturesque that you forget about your struggle to move for a bit. there were also lots of salamanders (see photos) on the path that kept scaring me purely because I didn’t see them until I almost stepped on them - idk how seeing as they are neon yellow. anyway the waterfall itself is beautiful and I would also say bring a jacket because it can get pretty cold in those woods and especially near the water.
Antonia P — Google review
Fairly easy hike, is quite uphill but more steps up in places rather than a steep incline. We did a loop around but you can do point to point. First aid kit located at the waterfall. Great views of Sofia. Took us about 3-4 hours. Got the bus from Sofia and then back, cost almost nothing. Only downside to this hike was that it did not appear to be well maintained in a few places, for example whilst the trail was signposted clearly at every stage there were several fallen trees blocking the path you have to clamber over.
Jo — Google review
Beautiful waterfall located in the Vitosha Mountain area, not far from Sofia. The hike to reach it is a bit challenging in some parts, but the fresh air, forest views, and sound of the water make it worth the effort. A great spot for nature lovers and hikers.
Walter W — Google review
Hiking in total will take 3-4 hrs. Just follow green mark to reach to the destination easier otherwise following red mark will take you through tough path. Waterfall is just astonishing, there is even medical equipments on arrival in case if somebody needs. Be prepared to meet random insects and same type of lizards constantly, which was quiet scary for me honestly
Adil B — Google review
Where to start 1. DO NOT DRINK FROM THE WATERFALL!!!!! There are mice and particles and bacteria in the water :( The hiking itself was great and beautiful. The viewpoint is really worth it, it’s half way to the waterfall. The only thing they should they care of it’s the signs, it is not very clear how to arrive to the waterfall, but it is worth it.

Sofia Zoo is a vast facility featuring an aquarium, birds of prey, and big cats such as lions and tigers. The zoo offers a diverse collection of animals that will captivate visitors with their unexpected antics. From fashion-forward monkeys to talented birds, the zoo provides entertainment for all ages. Established in 1888, it has been a popular attraction for families in Sofia, offering an enjoyable way to spend time with children while exploring the rich history of the city's zoological garden.
A wonderful place to spend a day in Sofia! The zoo is spacious, well-maintained, and home to a great variety of animals from all around the world. Perfect for families, nature lovers, and anyone looking to relax while exploring. Definitely worth a visit
Walter W — Google review
Over all the layout of the zoo is easy enough to navigate, even with almost everything strictly being in Bulgarian. The gate I picked to go in, said they don't take card, despite a visa/master card logo near by. Some of the attractions were down for maintenance and cleaning. Overall a good experience and would make a great outing for families or dates.
Charles D — Google review
Great place to visit and very interesting for the kids. The zoo is very spacious and offers a wide variety of animals — from lions and tigers to monkeys, elephants, reptiles, and beautiful birds. It’s easy to walk around, with plenty of greenery and shade, so it feels more like a park than just a zoo.
Nadia K — Google review
Truly great zoo, but also very empty and neglected. I understand that some animals didn't wanted to show themselves because I visited while weather were not quite pleasant, however many buildings, enclosures or cages were just empty (and unfortunately dirty) and some of the infrastructure was falling off. It's really intresting place in which you can stay for many hours, but for sure needs renovation.
To T — Google review
Overall a pretty classic zoo experience. The park itself feels a bit dated — some shops were closed and the whole place has a slight 80s/90s vibe (which makes sense, given its age). Still, I found the atmosphere quite pleasant, especially on a cool autumn day (around 20°C and cloudy). The enclosures for the smaller animals — monkeys (they were chill AF!) and the animals kept in groups or herds — looked surprisingly good and well maintained. Just the bigger animals like the panthers or tigers looked a little sad, but I think that’s a common zoo issue and probably depends on the day. Overall, a nice visit at a fair price.
Meiko S — Google review
Thought we'd do something to past time whilst in sofia so decided to go to the zoo. Was easy ti get to via quick bus trip and very cheap compared to England zoo prices. however, it is clearly chesp because no money goes into the zoo just by observing the animals and their behaviours. All animals looked very trapped and miserable to be in their very tight spaces and some almost looked half death as sad as ut sounds. I do not regret going as it opened up my eyes to how awful zoos can be when the animals are not looked after. You can get very close to the animals for pictures but at the cost of them being mistreated and manipulated to act in such a way. The woman selling the tickets was also very rude. Would recommend for those blind to how animals can be treated in zoos and the effects it has
Naseem H — Google review
Great variety of animals, and you can see them closely. Plenty of places to visit and walk around. Selection of snacks and drinks available. And the cost is amazing for a zoo park.
George V — Google review
The zoo is small, still has some variety of animals. What is pity is that the conditions look mostly poor and the animals don't seem to be taken very good care of. Also they lack of enough space.

amazing park! my friend and I set up camp under a pavilion and sat there for like 6 hours just chatting and then subsequently reading our books. i’m impressed by how many people bought their own hammocks with them and strung them up between the trees. pretty cool idea. there’s also a water fountain with ice cold water in the middle of the park past the playground and also bathrooms however they were closed when we went
Antonia P — Google review
A nice place for walk. It's quiet with a lot of trees and different paths you can take. It's suitable for a walk with friends, with your dog and there are paths suitable for strollers. After working hours or during the weekends, there are parts of Borisiva garden that can be really crowded.

Beautiful and iconic park in the heart of Sofia. It’s spacious, green, and full of history. You’ll find wide tree-lined paths, flower gardens (especially the Rosarium), and peaceful spots like the lily pond and the Japanese corner. Great for walking, jogging, or just relaxing on a bench. There are playgrounds for kids, sports areas, and even cafés around if you want a drink or snack. Easy to reach by metro (Stadium Vasil Levski station is right next to it). Some parts are a bit less maintained, but overall it’s one of the best places to enjoy nature and unwind in the city. A must-visit if you’re in Sofia!

Eagles' Bridge, also known as Orlov Most in Bulgarian, is a historic bridge in Sofia that was constructed in 1891. The bridge is adorned with four striking bronze eagle sculptures perched on stone columns. It serves as a starting point for exploring downtown Sofia and offers a convenient pedestrian underpass to navigate the bustling junction. Visitors can explore the subterranean crossings filled with kiosks offering various items at budget-friendly prices, as well as cafes and fast food eateries.

Nothing special, some eagles statues on the bridge crossing a small stream. If you are on a hike around Sofia it might be great to visit with children.

Eagles Bridge, located near the city center, is a symbolic spot featuring four bronze eagles that represent protection and freedom. The area around it is lively, with parks, cafés, and major streets nearby, making it a nice stop while exploring the city. However, there isn’t much to do here specifically, it’s more of a quick sightseeing spot than a destination on its own.

Certainly a lot smaller than I thought and the traffic here is very busy as a main thoroughfare. To cross the road need to use underpass. Nice park and walks nearby . The eagle statues are really well done and impressive.

Nice place to visit in the centre of the capital-Sofia. Can enjoy boat ride in the warm summer and ice skating during the winter time in the Ariana lake close by. 🔥🔥🔥 great park also surrounded by other parks which is always nice - you can have your choice there’s a information centre in the middle where you can get books (free I think ) but sucks for you if you don’t speak bulgarian edit: we got stuck in a storm here and the best part was that the theatre had an undercover section to get away from the rain.

The City Garden is one of my favorite parks in Sofia. It's also a typical city park, but thanks to the great fountains it's on a completely different level. There are benches and trees everywhere. Serdika, located at the heart of Sofia, Bulgaria, has a rich history dating back over 2,000 years. Originally a Thracian settlement, it flourished as a Roman city known as Serdica. Throughout the centuries, it witnessed the rise and fall of empires, including the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman. Today, Serdika remains a testament to its ancient past, with archaeological ruins, preserved landmarks, and a vibrant blend of modern life within its historic streets. Amidst Sofia's heart, I stroll with grace, In tulip blossom's vibrant embrace. A tapestry of colors, petals unfurled, Nature's masterpiece, a wonderous world. As I wander through each bustling street, The air is fragrant, pure and sweet. Tulips dance with the gentle breeze, Whispering secrets through the trees. Their vibrant hues, a joyful sight, A symphony of red, pink, and white. Each petal tells a story untold, Of beauty, resilience, and love untold. I walk amidst this floral sea, Where tulips bloom, setting hearts free. Their delicate presence, a feast for the eyes, A moment of bliss, beneath sunny skies. The city pulses with life and glee, As tulips sway, enchanting me. They nod their heads in silent cheer, Inviting dreams to draw near. I pause in awe, beneath their grace, Feeling serenity in this sacred space. Among the tulips, I find my peace, As their beauty grants my soul release. With each step I take, my spirit soars, In Sofia's heart, among tulips galore. Their splendor weaves a tale divine, As I walk through this blossoming shrine. Oh, tulips of Sofia, in full bloom, You bring life to the city's gloom. In your presence, I find delight, As we dance together, day and night. I cherish this season, pure and bright, When tulips paint Sofia with sheer delight. In this enchanting realm, I find my flow, Walking amidst tulips, my heart aglow.

But I got disappointed. Pumping pop music, dancers who had fun but honestly there was no theme or storyline. Just some circus performers showing off their traditional skills. I liked the 3 guys on the trampoline and the huge white dress show. Many kids in the audience. Worst of all the signage to find my seat needs some serious improvements. I looked for hall/entrance 18. Kambanite (The Bells) Park is a serene escape located just 20 minutes from Sofia, where nature meets meaningful symbolism. This enchanting park features a striking Brutalist monument adorned with bells sourced from various countries, each representing the beauty and unity of children around the globe. Visitors can engage in the delightful experience of ringing these bells, making it an enjoyable outing for families.
I recently visited Kambanite (The Bells) Park, and it turned out to be a wonderful escape from the busy city life of Sofia. Located at the base of Vitosha Mountain, this park offers a perfect blend of cultural charm and natural beauty. The centerpiece of the park is the bell tower. But there’s more to the park than just the bells. The surrounding area is lush and green, with maintained walking trails that are perfect for a casual stroll. The scenery is stunning, and the trails are easy enough for families and children. There are also plenty of open spaces making it a great spot for picnics and letting kids run around. Getting to the park is straightforward, with parking available. What I loved most about Kambanite Park was the bells. Only children are allowed to ring the bells gently, with five children that was no problem.
Rambo P — Google review
Fun place for the kids to walk around. Some of the bells have very interesting details and often times can give a sense of what the country’s style/architecture/tastes are. Found it interesting that they keep bells from countries that no longer exist. Hope they keep them as they display a piece of history
Magdalena A — Google review
The Bells monument is situated 14 km eastwards from the center of Sofia at the foot of Vitosha Mountain. Children from all over the planet built into the unique monument their faith in the good and bright days without war and violence to come. The United Nations Organization declared 1979 as the Year of the Child and their Problems. The little being, no matter in which part of the planet he/she is and color his/her skin craves both to live in peace and a good environment and to study and develop.

Really great park. You can go and try a lot of different bells (with kids it's even more fun). A lot of different countries (some are missing), delegations, some from bigger events. They should just keep track of their trash days more often.

Each season has its own beauty and you can see it in this park.

The Museum of Illusions Sofia is a fascinating attraction that combines illusions with scientific inventions and arts. It is an educational experience that is enriched by interactive entertainment, such as playing with light, creating shadows, and more. The museum is open until 8:00 PM and has plenty of space to explore.
We visited the Museum of Illusions with the kids and had a great time! It's not a very big place, but it's full of fun and weird discoveries. Every corner had something surprising — the kids were amazed and we ended up spending at least an hour exploring everything. A fun, mind-bending experience for both children and adults. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for something different

We visited this museum during our holidays! It was a nice ! There aren’t many things to do. I don’t really think it’s worthy of the amount you pay to enter! The staff was nice! There are some nice interactions with the exhibits If you have already visited a museum like this in another country you don’t really need to see this one also.
Theodora P — Google review
This was my second visit - I wanted to show the museum to my husband and he ended up just as fascinated as I was! It’s such a fun and imaginative place, full of clever optical illusions and interactive exhibits. There are plenty of opportunities to get creative with your camera and snap some really, funny photos of each other. A brilliant experience for both kids and adults — definitely worth a visit!
Danni H — Google review
Interesting place especially for kids! There ate many things that children can enjoy! It would be hard if there are many people in the museum as the area is not that big. But well curated! And the price of entrance is little bit expensive considering the size of museum.
Mothusi — Google review
We arrived at the Museum of Illusions expecting to spend a few hours. The size of our disappointment matched the size of our expectations. There are only about 30 exhibits, spread across a single floor. At best, you can spend about an hour there (and that’s already stretching it). Most exhibits take no more than 30 seconds to experience, and some even less. There are staff members available to help if needed. You can purchase a family ticket for 68 leva (very expensive compared to the value). A nice place, but nothing more. There is an accessible elevator.

It was really great experience. It was my first time in museum like this one so I really enjoyed. You can see a lot illusions, it’s not crowded so you can take pictures without hurry.

Rainbow Factory is a trendy and modern restaurant located in the city center of Sofia, Bulgaria. It offers a variety of specialty coffee, breakfast options, sandwiches, salads, sweets, cakes, beer and wine. The restaurant is known for its brunch menu featuring traditional Bulgarian breakfasts and has received awards for being Sofia's best brunch place. With two locations in Sofia, Rainbow Factory prides itself on serving quality food made with love.
When in Sofia, go here. It’s popular for a reason. Located inside a small space along a tram track (watch them whizz by as you eat), Rainbow Factory makes a few breakfast items and coffee. The eggs and sausage dish hit the spot and uses local meat. The flat bread comes with jam and cheese. It was delicious! My latte was creamy and strong. I highly recommend this spot.
Austin G — Google review
Small brunch spot in Sofia, and while it has charm and some standout elements, a few details kept it from being a five-star experience. Pros: Tasty food: The flavors were genuinely good. The Egg Benedict and other dishes were well-seasoned and nicely presented. Fast service: Orders come out quickly, which is great if you're short on time. Areas for improvement: Cold egg: The egg in the Egg Benedict was unfortunately cold, suggesting it may have been prepared in advance. No cold coffee: Surprising and disappointing during the hot summer months. Portion size vs. price: Portions felt quite small compared to what you'd expect at that price point in Sofia. Limited seating: There are only a couple of places to sit. Be prepared to wait or take your food to go. Other notes: This is a self-service spot—order at the counter and pick up your food when it's ready. It’s not a sit-down restaurant, more of a casual takeaway or quick bite kind of place. Summary: A flavorful brunch option for those on the move. Just know what to expect in terms of portion size and setup. Still worth a visit if you’re nearby and craving something tasty.

It was a delicious brunch. A nice place where you can eat your brunch. It can be a little crowded sometimes but if you can find a place to stay the atmosphere is awesome. Also they make a tasy coffee ( vegetal milk options included).

They advertise gluten-free options, but when I asked, they didn’t actually have any. The cappuccino was beautiful and good. The espresso had an excellent hint of blackcurrant, which I really enjoyed as a coffee lover. My recommendation. Nice place

I used to come here frequently almost six years ago and it was a pleasant surprise to see it still open and serving amazing food. A fantastic option for breakfast, off the main streets and a really nice location. Eggs and Avacado a highly recommended as well as fresh Orange juice. Highly recommend for breakfast.

It was fine, not terrible but also not amazing like its rating would suggest. Food was mediocre, service was mediocre (though I'm realizing that in Bulgaria, mediocre service is actually good service lol). The Palace - National Art Gallery is a significant cultural institution in Sofia, Bulgaria. Housed in the former royal palace, it showcases over 50,000 pieces of Bulgarian art spanning from the Middle Ages to contemporary works. The palace itself has a rich history, having served as the residence for Sultans of Turkey and later being reformed into an opulent Viennese-style building for the Bulgarian Monarchy.
I had a fantastic visit to the Sofia National Art Gallery and the National Ethnographic Museum, both located in the beautiful former royal palace. You need two separate tickets to visit both, but it’s absolutely worth it. The ladies at the ticket offices were very kind and helpful. The art gallery has a great mix of classical and modern Bulgarian works. The ethnographic museum was a highlight — I had a lovely conversation with a passionate staff member who explained the meanings behind rug motifs like the butterfly, scorpion, and scissors, and even mentioned Turkish names for some of them. I hope she can visit Cappadocia one day, as we discussed! Don’t miss the Cosmos-themed floor in the ethnographic museum — it’s unique and fascinating. Both museums are well-presented with English descriptions, and together they offer a deep look into Bulgarian culture and heritage. Highly recommended!

Bulgaria’s National Art Gallery is a cultural gem, blending grandeur with intimacy. Its halls showcase vibrant paintings, intricate icons, and striking sculptures that capture the nation’s spirit. The building itself, a former royal palace, adds a sense of majesty without overshadowing the art. Each room feels like a journey through history and imagination, offering both inspiration and quiet reflection in the heart of Sofia.
Tom M — Google review
a delectable art gallery with three exhibits included in the ticket - 4 lev for students. these are some of my favourite pieces, the artists self-portrait, a bulgarian lady, and a still life. I also liked the one of the evening star but unfortunately google wont let me post it as the women are nude in the painting. definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in sofia and it’s in a prime location with parks, theatres and other attractions nearby
Antonia P — Google review
Honestly disappointing, I've been to art museums all over the world. This one seems small, you can see everything quite quickly. Part of the building is dedicated to another museum. I think the other national gallery down the street is better. More over, when I entered the limited gift shop. The lady that works there stands up and WATCHES you as you are browsing the store. I found it quite rude and unsettling. The saving grace is that the entry is cheap, and there are a few pieces of art I loved.
Pob V — Google review
Beautiful place both for the interior and exhibitions they do. The lady working at reception was unkind. Maybe she should change the workplace.
Rose D — Google review
The gallery was fairly empty when we came in. Great experience to learn from. As far as I know, one of the most famous paintings here is Titian's Bacchus and Ariadne which illustrates a story told by the classical authors Ovid and Catullus. The gallery is a true treasure trove of masterpieces and a testament to the enduring power of human creativity.
Cristian G — Google review
I found this a worthwhile museum both historically and artistically. On one side was the Ethnographic museum which was a fascinating glimpse into the world of pre-war, rural Bulgaria with clothes, tools, weaving demonstration, silverwork, and many other aspects of a by-gone life. On the other side is the art gallery which had the most amazing photo artistic journalism of a maximum security prison in Bulgaria. There is a wide spread of period art from classical portraits of royalty to contemporary art. The current theme of war was appropo and a strong reminder of why we should avoid it. We went on 2 separate days since each side was a lot to see.

Step into the past and experience everyday life in Communist Bulgaria at The Red Flat. Managed by the 365 Association, this 1200 sq foot apartment offers an interactive exhibit showcasing a typical Bulgarian family's home in the 1980s. With a self-guided audio tour, visitors can explore each room, flick through photo albums, ride a Balkan Bike, play records and even peruse the liquor cabinet.
A really unique and well-thought-out interactive experience! As someone born in 1985, it felt strangely nostalgic to be transported back into the atmosphere of the 1980s and the last years of the communist regime. The audio guide was great, informative without being overwhelming, and I really appreciated being able to move at my own pace rather than being rushed through. I also appreciated how easy it was to get in - I picked up a ticket without reservation at Gifted just around the corner. Definitely worth it if you want to immerse yourself in a very real slice of history.
Martina B — Google review
This audio guided and interactive museum is a great and unique way to take you back in time and let you experience life during the communist period of Bulgaria. Even though I enjoyed listening to the stories while sitting on the comfortable chair in the salon, there were times when I felt a bit bored and thought the audio guide was going on for too long and sometimes had to fast forward. Friendly staff and happily answered all our questions.

For a unique museum experience, visit The Red Flat. It's a Communist-era apartment set up as a museum where you can touch anything you see. My two friends and I went while in Sofia. Here's our experience. 1) Tickets: Despite online tickets sold out the day we went, we walked into Gifted, a shop with cool items, and bought tickets for right now. It was just over nine euros per person. 2) Entrance: At Gifted, they will point you to around the corner to an apartment building where there's a doorbell clearly marked "The Red Flat." Buzz it and you'll be directed up. A woman named Elizabeth will walk you through the museum experience and provide you with headphones and a map. 3) Experience: It's a small apartment so the audio tour spends a good chunk of time in the rooms, especially the dining room, living room, and children's room. The audio tour is in English and walks you through life of the couple who lived in the apartment. You can open cabinets, try the telephone, and go out on the balcony. It takes over an hour to listen to it all. We found the experience worth it. It is a bit too long, but still very unique.
Austin G — Google review
This is an apartment that was they have decorated during the USSR times. It is all hands-on. You can touch everything in side and interact with it. They give you an audio guide that walks you through the family that lived here during the times. It will be a bit over 1 hour with the audio guide without stopping it. It was a cool experience overall. It wasn't too crowed when I arrived. A cool experience if you're in Sofia.
Giovanni S — Google review
What a fascinating and unique experience! The Red Flat offers an incredibly authentic glimpse into everyday life during Bulgaria's communist era through a carefully preserved apartment filled with period-appropriate items and personal belongings. Booking in advance is essential since only a limited number of people can visit this intimate space at once - but this actually enhances the experience by keeping it personal and immersive. I'll admit finding the location took a few extra minutes of searching, but it's absolutely worth the effort once you arrive. What makes this museum truly special is how interactive it is. The multilingual audio guide walks you through each room while you're free to sit on the furniture, open drawers, flip through photo albums, and examine personal items like medals and postcards. It feels like stepping into a time capsule where you can actually touch and experience history rather than just observe it from behind glass. The audio narration brings the space to life by telling the story of the family who lived here, sharing both the hardships and small joys of communist-era Bulgaria. We spent about 90 minutes exploring every corner, and the comfortable living room chair became a perfect spot to pause and really absorb the stories being told. This is definitely one of those hidden gems that offers something completely different from typical museum experiences. For anyone interested in understanding what daily life was really like behind the Iron Curtain, The Red Flat provides an intimate and memorable way to connect with that history. Highly recommended!
Sam A — Google review
Very cool. Sure it's a little sanitised, but it's not out of the ordinary for a more "middle class" family at the time. The audio guide is really informative about everyday life in the 80s. Take your phone to be able to do translation of the authentic newspapers and books! They only allow a few people at a time, so you're best booking a slot.
Rick — Google review
A very interesting look into life in the 80s. The audioguide takes you through how the family would have lived. I loved how you were allowed to touch any exhibit and really immerse yourself. Thanks a lot for having us!

Vrana Palace is a hidden gem in Sofia, offering a fascinating glimpse into Bulgaria’s royal history. Once the residence of the Bulgarian royal family, the palace is surrounded by a stunning botanical park, making it a perfect escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. While the interior of the palace is not always open to the public, the beautifully landscaped gardens are the highlight of the visit. Featuring rare plant species, picturesque walking paths, and small lakes, the park is a peaceful retreat for nature lovers. Guided tours provide interesting insights into the history of the Bulgarian monarchy and the significance of the estate. A wonderful place for a weekend walk, a family outing, or a history lesson in a serene environment. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Sofia!
Violina P — Google review
The park is well kept. I like the fact that there is enough space for everyone in it. There's no any overcrowded feeling. It does have a small parking lot upside so you can park your car without any concerns. And it's quite affordable 1lv for parking - daily. There're several shops upfront so you can take some soft drinks and some snacks. You have 5 lv entrance tax for the park itself. It would make sense it there are several more benches spread throughout the park. Otherwise it was just an amazing nature experience.

Imo it isn't really a great park. The way they taken care of things is so so. The lake looks bad maintained.. It is strange that a family ticket is cheaper than just two adults, why? Quit expensive, there are better parks for free closer to the city centre. This park still seems popular tho, free parking available. No foreign bank cards taken..

The museum features an extensive display of ceramics crafted from natural minerals, precious stones, and a collection of rarely-seen minerals discovered during cave expeditions. With over 27,000 rocks and minerals exhibited on two spacious floors, including rare specimens from around the world and even outer space, this museum offers a comprehensive exploration of geology.
A beautiful museum filled with minerals and gems, some of impressive size. On the upper floor, you can see minerals typical of different regions of Bulgaria, offering a fascinating and educational overview. The architecture of the building makes the experience even more enjoyable and striking.

What a unique museum! Inside a city park, this museum houses 20,000 minerals! The admission fee is reasonable. Expect to spend an hour or so learning all about minerals, gems, and crystals. Also, the view of the museum from the second floor is stunning if you appreciate design.

Super overpriced! If you don't have coins for a vending machine there is nothing to eat or drink! Even if you do the plastic bottled water is left on the sun for months probably. First time in Sofia and I have took my child to play at it. A few different levels in terms of difficulty to fit age and fitness of your child. You can pay by card at the venue. I would strongly suggest to take a gloves to protect your kids hands from sliding on the ropes if and when it fall. Otherwise, brilliant activity's.

Yes, it is adventurous and puts up a decent challenge. They have 6 tracks and I would say N3 was pretty challenging for my 9 year old. At first I had good impressions and then I saw the dirty and overused harnesses and that there are no instructions at all. My son got yelled for not announcing he is about to use zip line when no one told him that he is supposed to do so. This is what happens when you leave your business to be run by several teens that reek with cigars and sweat. I would not rate the safety too high and as I said cleanliness is not a priority. Overall the park is understaffed with little supervision of the guests that on the course. There are no managers in sight. I would not recommend and I don't think my kid would want to visit it again.

Cool place to go to, but the staff are bunch of kids that do not care about the customers. There was zero help from them when was needed and their recommendation for the level of difficulty for our 10 year old was was very bad. Once you start a certain level you're not allowed to switch even if you realize it's too hard right away. You just have to pay again. ...I can't find a way to answer the owner, so I'm adding here the date we we visited the park - 19.10.25.

It isn’t a huge climb or long, but you can show up, pay for your kid’s level and go fairly easily and quickly. Do not put your kids on the level above, it’s well balanced as it is. There are children getting stuck because parents bought one level up, despite their child being too small.

Izbata Tavern, located in central Sofia, is a traditional restaurant that offers an authentic taste of Bulgaria. The team has curated a menu filled with forgotten national culinary recipes, preserving the customs passed down by ancestors. Over the years, it has become a popular spot for both locals and international guests, including public figures and artists. The charming old house exudes rustic charm and provides a homely feel with tradition at its heart.
A wonderful place to enjoy authentic Bulgarian cuisine! The atmosphere was cozy and traditional, and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to try real Bulgarian food!

This is a really nice spot if you’re in the mood for traditional Bulgarian food. Make sure you call in advance to book a table, it gets packed pretty much all the time. The food was really tasty and you can tell they use good quality ingredients. The waiters were very polite and friendly. Would totally recommend it.

It is a traditional place where you can have local, Bulgarian food. The food was very good, we ordered a couple of appetizers and a main course for each of us, and we could not even finish it. They give a good quantity and of very good quality. The girls who served us were charming. But I have to say that it is advisable to make a reservation to come.

Izbata Tavern is a traditional Bulgarian restaurant, and it should be appreciated in that spirit. The atmosphere is cozy and homely, just like the food itself. The dishes are simple rather than sophisticated, but that’s exactly what makes them enjoyable – you can really taste the freshness of the ingredients. The flavors are delicious, even if the presentation doesn’t always match the menu photos – that’s part of its charm. The chocolate mousse — though not a traditional Bulgarian choice — was a delightful surprise. Service was outstanding, but the house wine by the glass was disappointing – slightly sour and unbalanced. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

Izbata is a traditional Bulgarian restaurant that’s both friendly and welcoming. I wasn’t sure what to order, but Krassimir from the staff was incredibly helpful from the moment I arrived until the end. Tasty, great quality traditional food, good atmosphere, clean, overall solid experience. The waitress which served us was polite and professional. I can recommend this restaurant. But there is one bad part of the experience that I have to point out. We were a group of 5, 2 children. And the younger child had to wait for a ridiculously long time for his sausage. Appetizers arrived very quick, full meals took longer to prepare (within reasonable time for a crowded place) but for some reason the rest of the group received food at least 20 minutes earlier than the youngest among us. I was about to ask if they forgot about him but then the sausage arrived. I understand it was crowded but this was a serious oversight and the fact it was a child (who we let eat bread with cheese so he doesn't just watch us eating,) irked me much more than if it was an adult waiting.

Central Sofia Market Hall, located across the street from the Banya Bashi Mosque, is a historic urban market that offers a variety of produce, grocery items, food vendors, and gift shops. Originally serving as the central marketplace for locals to do their shopping, it now operates more like a shopping center with food stalls, cafes, and restaurants. Visitors can enjoy browsing through different goods such as food, clothes, and local specialties like rose-based products.
The market has been transformed into a Kaufland supermarket. They kept the beautiful interior architecture, which is really nice, but unfortunately, they removed the local products section. I was expecting a more traditional market, so it was a bit surprising but it’s still good.
Hajar B — Google review
The Central Market Hall of Sofia is a fascinating blend of history and modern retail that you won't find anywhere else! This beautifully preserved historic building now houses a Kaufland supermarket, but they've maintained the original atmosphere so well that it feels like shopping in a museum. The architecture is stunning and the space is impressively clean throughout. What makes this place unique is how they've transformed each level. The ground floor Kaufland offers an excellent selection of products at standard prices, while the mezzanine level features several restaurants with great views over the main hall. But the real surprise is downstairs - there's a fascinating free museum area showcasing Roman-era ruins, plus additional shops and a comfortable seating area. The location in central Sofia couldn't be better, though parking is limited (typical for the city center). The excellent public transport connections make it easily accessible by metro, bus, or tram. One practical tip: the clean restrooms in the basement require scanning your receipt for entry. This is definitely more than just a shopping trip - it's a cultural experience that combines practical needs with Sofia's rich history. Whether you're grabbing groceries, exploring ancient ruins, or enjoying a meal on the upper level, allow extra time to fully appreciate this unique space that successfully marries preservation with modern functionality.

Hey, we are Vicky 🇵🇪 and Malte 🇩🇪 from the travel blog Traveling Is Our Passion. For our full one-day Sofia itinerary, check out our blog! The Central Market Hall wasn’t exactly what we expected—it feels more like a standard supermarket than a lively market hall. That said, it can be handy if you’re hungry early in the day, since there are a few food stalls and small restaurants upstairs. Not a must-see in Sofia, but a practical stop if you’re nearby and want a quick bite or a local shopping experience.

I’ve been to 31 countries and find going to a central market to be such a great way to feel a city. This one in Sofia wasn’t what I expected and if you’re looking for the hustle and bustle, with a more historic feel you’ll like the Women’s Market instead but don’t discount it yet because it has some lovely Bulgarian souvenirs! If you like a beautiful, high ceiling building with a modern supermarket inside and food vendors upstairs you’ll love this. Plus there’s something really cool downstairs if you’re up for seeing it. Aaaaand there’s some really lovely Bulgarian rose products there that I didn’t see elsewhere in the city. Beautifully packaged tea blends, beauty products, and chocolates. So a beautifully preserved building near a mosque and a synagogue with historic pieces inside and modernity too. Not a bad mixture and super convenient.

Very disappointing experience. We stayed right next to it for a week. And first day came shopping there and dropped newborns baby next to the counter. Considering it was in the evening, we have returned following morning to collect it. When asked at information desk about lost property, the lady working there (Emiliya Slavcheva) as soon as she heard English language, pretended i wasnt even there and after looked absolutely discussed at me. Hence got her name, absolutely terrible experience. To the Management you have an absolutely amazing store with great assortment and good quality but having people who treat other people this way is totally unacceptable.... Obviously we haven't returned shopping there anymore as other people wouldn't. Please consider that, treating tourists this way.....

The historic market hall in Sofia now houses a large Kaufland on the ground floor, offering a surprisingly wide selection of local and international products. Downstairs, in the basement level, you’ll find small shops and a few cafés.
Tibor — Google review
This supermarket, above all, is a historical artistic masterpiece! The prices are very reasonable… it has everything, and the prices are excellent.

Right in the centre with limited parking for customers, never seen full. Lovely historical market building well preserved. Great selection of food and drink to international standards.

The Presidential Palace of Republic of Bulgaria, located in the city center of Sofia, is a must-see government building. It serves as the official office of the Bulgarian President and features ceremonial guards at its entrance. Visitors can witness the guard exchange ceremony, which occurs hourly on weekdays. The guards don traditional 19th-century uniforms and perform a captivating five-minute ceremony. Additionally, there is a grand changing of the guard spectacle on the first Wednesday of each month at noon.

This is an impressive landmark located right in the city center. The architecture is elegant and stately, reflecting the country’s history and governance. You can witness the ceremonial changing of the guards at the entrance, which happens every hour and is worth watching. While visitors can’t enter the building itself, the area around it is lively, with several historic and government buildings nearby.

יש החלפת משמרות כל שעה, פרט לימים שבת וראשון. The official office of the Bulgarian President is housed in this building and therefore the building's honor guard and the guard exchange ceremony, which takes place every hour and can be viewed free of charge (except Saturdays and Sundays). At the entrance to the building are two armed soldiers, dressed in ceremonial uniforms from the 19th century, including a hat with a feather and rifles from this period. The ceremony lasts for five minutes! There are four soldiers who are replacing two who are standing outside, with whom they can also be photographed, if they arrive before the shift begins, and there are two more who are inside the president's house. It is recommended to arrive a few minutes before a round hour.

The ancient Serdica archaeological complex features ruins from the Roman city of Serdica, which was discovered whilst the city was building the subway. These ruins are a popular attraction for tourists, who can walk around and take pictures.
An unexpected historical gem in the heart of Sofia. This well preserved archeological site was uncovered during excavation for a metro station. There are indoor and outdoor portions showcasing mosaics, various artifacts and even sewage systems of the ancient Roman city of Serdika. A very interesting and informative experience. Highly recommend.
Kristen G — Google review
Well worth a short stroll through. The signage and information could be a little better so I suggest reading a little about this historic site before visiting. However if you are in the center and don’t take the opportunity to at least pass through here you are definitely missing out. Amazing location for photographers too, especially on a sunny day.
Court P — Google review
The Ancient Serdica archaeological complex reveals the historical layers of the old Roman city that once stood here. Among columns, ruins of houses, and fragments of ancient streets, it’s easy to picture life more than a thousand years ago. The way the excavations blend with the urban surroundings creates a striking contrast between past and present, making it one of the most interesting spots in the city center.
Luana B — Google review
I love how accessible this whole place is to everyone. I was fascinated with how integrated the complex is to the public area in general - you’d thought they’d have to be preserved in a museum or something but it’s just there, seamless. It seems that the locals get to pass by it whenever they like? Historical, truly, but they made it beautifully mundane in the best way possible.
Irene K — Google review
I didn't expect ancient city partially inside of the subway - it was a very nice surprise. The ruins still have water and sewage pipes intact. The place is free to visit apart from the museum. Ancient Serdica has beautiful atmosphere; among the ruins there are information boards containing comprehensive knowledge about the buildings that are part of the complex. Also - it's great view point to look at other city monuments like Bania-Bashi mosque.
Otoczak O — Google review
The ruins are pretty cool and there are plaques everywhere explaining in both Bulgarian and english what you’re looking at. I will admit, I spent about 30ish minutes looking for the entrance but turns out, all the underground entrances that look like they are for the metro are the underground tunnels that lead to the ruins. Hope this helps the next person find it faster than I did!
Sabrina S — Google review
A really interesting idea it was indeed, to incorporate the historical archeological site/complex into an underpass/metro line entrance (well, it was probably the other way around, but you get me...). Alongside the similarly performed Serdika II metro station entrance just a couple of steps away from here, these are a must see (or at least pass through) places in the centre of Sofia:) (Not to mention that the remains themselves are extremely interesting, and if you are into ancient roman architecture, they should be an absolute no-brainer during your Sofia holiday...)

The menu offers a modern twist on traditional Bulgarian cuisine, featuring copious breakfast options and all-day brunch selections. The absolute best brunch in Sofia! The place is clean and cozy. There are tables not only inside but outside as well. The staff is nice and helpful. And the food is really Amazing! Been there three times already and can wait to visit again! Keep up the good work! 👌🏻

I’ve visited this place a few times over the years, and while I still appreciate its charm and good service, I feel the food quality has declined a bit. The potatoes, for example, lacked flavor even after seasoning, which was a little disappointing. The croissant omelet was enjoyable but didn’t stand out as particularly special. It’s possible that as the restaurant has grown more popular, especially with visitors from abroad, consistency in the kitchen has become harder to maintain. I truly hope the food can return to the high standard I remember from earlier visits, as the atmosphere and service remain lovely.
Olimpiada V — Google review
Visitwd this place as recommended by a local and i was amazed about the staff’s hospitality like even though they were so busy tending to other customers, they still say hi to new customers which is a big plus for them. Kudos to all who works there. And about the food, i ordered chicken doner and it was sooo good so delicious and sauce can remind me of the one in saudi shawrma i clearly so remembered the taste. It was so tasty.

I had half a day to kill time and I couldn’t pick a better choice. I started with breakfast, the portions are very very gentle and the quality superb. I stayed there for a whole working on my laptop without any disturbance until I had a mini lunch by ordering the Mekitsa, the best I’ve had in my short stay in Bulgaria. The facilities are very nice, modern and clean. The staff is attentive, kind and fast.

Nice location, nice interior.... Friendly, but slow service. Food came cold, especially potatoes that were too oily, too. Too much whipped cream on pancakes, is that only a decoration or I am supposed to eat all that cream? Toilets could be cleaner. An owner or a manager goes between the tables with his dogs and shouts at them at the office....I was able to hear that eventhough I was having my headphones on. But the place was not crowded and general with nice atmosphere in general

Cool Cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating. Pleasant enough staff, albeit all business. I found the food ok, not spectacular, yet probs the omelettes are the star. Staff didn't advise that I was ordering too much with just the eggy bread and donuts as the portions are huge. Eggy bread was basic, something I'd quickly whip up at home with nothing in the fridge or pantry. Donuts were over hyped and mos def meant to share with several people.

Mekitsa & Coffee is a cozy spot in Sofia that specializes in serving traditional Bulgarian breakfast with a modern twist. The cafe is dedicated to mekitsa, a deep-fried pastry similar to doughnuts, which holds nostalgic memories for many Bulgarians. At Mekitsa & Coffee, you can watch the mekitsa being fried right in front of you and choose from various toppings like cheese, honey, or peanut butter.
Very good! The staff was busy but took the time to speak to me in English to take my order. The place is a bit small so you may not be able to sit. I’d like to go back and try other flavours of mekitsa (I had feta and raspberry jam)!

my mate and I tried 4 mekitsas - cheese and ham, cheese and salami, cheese and fig jam and nutella and banana - and we were not let down by any of them. 24 lev for these 4 is a relatively cheap lunch/brunch spot. the people making them were super fast as well we only waited like 2 minutes to have them fried and put together. the atmosphere is also really cute upstairs and you can watch the street while you enjoy your mekitsas. left feeling very very full. big 🪭

I stopped by Мекица и Кафе in Sofia and really enjoyed it. I had a mekitsa with cream cheese and blueberry jam — it was delicious, freshly made, and served quickly. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the place itself has a cozy, relaxed atmosphere. A great spot for a simple but memorable local snack.

Had a wonderful breakfast here. Me and my gf treated ourselves to 4 of their Makitsa’s (2 savoury, 2 sweet). Can say, our gluttony was worth it. Although i’m feeling stuffed like Hansel and Gretel ready for the oven, each one was just as good as the last! and i can’t regret my choices. I recommend the fig jam and cheese, banana and nutella, cheese and sausage and cheese and ham. Very tasty and def will be back!

Guests praise the high-quality food, friendly service, and excellent vegetarian choices. While some find the prices slightly steep for lunch, many appreciate the delicious food at affordable prices for dinner.
We were there with a large group and overall the people had very mixed feeling about this spot. Personally I absolutely adored it and I Would happily come here again. I had the Halloumi salad which was super fresh and had a nice dressing. The broccoli was good too. I did see that the Quesadillas were a bit burned but that good have been due to the size of our group which made it tough to prepare everything at the same time. The service was friendly even though they didn’t speak English. The atmosphere was super cute with all the fun little things and sculptures.

“Bad service kills good food” I was really looking forward to coming here and in fact made an effort to travel over, so I was so surprised to walk in having asked for a table and have this woman waft me away looking disgusted, and then when I questioned this she rolled her eyes and led me through. Then she chucks me on this table, only to tell me shortly after that I need to move because she has 10 people coming in. I agree, but then get moved to a staff table at the back covered in rubbish. I was bewildered. After 5 mins or so a man comes and moves me to a table and apologises. I have my food but they then proceed to ignore me for ages once I’d finished, literally looking through me. The waitress is literally walking around bare foot. When I asked for the bill, I was met with more eye rolls. Had to ask for the bill multiple times and they were so rude about it. The food was nice, but wow the service was shocking.

The simple yet well-designed space offers a great selection of books for patrons to enjoy while sipping their coffee. While it may not boast the highest quality beans in town, Chucky's is praised for its reliable service and sense of community.
Great coffee and service. The quality of the coffee is really good and it’s served as it’s supposed to. The espresso is 100% arabica and you can choose from different coffee regions. I had a double espresso, promoted as mid roasted and with acidity but I would say only that the acidity was somehow very limited. Unica Restaurant in Sofia is a culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. Guests rave about the exceptional food, with dishes beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The service is top-notch, showcasing a dedicated staff that genuinely cares for their patrons' needs. Whether you're enjoying a casual lunch or celebrating a special occasion, Unica delivers consistently high-quality meals that leave diners eager to return.
Very nice place. The atmosphere was great, very stylish and well balanced interior. Italian style arrangement of the tables with view on the pizza spot and oven. The service was at a good level, the lady was client oriented quite attentive and concerned about how we feel. The food looked good and was really tasty. A downside in my opinion is the too expensive pizza romana, keeping in mind it is not made with fresh dough, as well as the italian wine too costy for its level. Overall a very nice experience and I can recommend for the atmosphere and the food proposed.

Unica Restaurant offers an incredible atmosphere with a refined and elegant touch. The staff is exceptionally professional and attentive, going above and beyond to ensure a great experience – even offering to hang up ladies’ coats, which was a lovely gesture. Throughout our visit, we felt truly well taken care of. The appetizers and salads were outstanding, both in taste and presentation. However, we were slightly disappointed with the main courses – the duck had an unusual aftertaste, and the pasta was rather unremarkable. On the bright side, the desserts were absolutely fantastic – beautifully presented and full of flavor, leaving a lasting impression. Overall, Unica stands out for its impeccable service, welcoming ambiance, and delicious starters and desserts. With some improvements to the main dishes, it could be a top-tier dining destination.

Very stylish, tastefully designed, promising a lot. However: 1. When offering a Pizza „Romana“, it should be a „Romana“, i.e. very thin. It was not, more like between Romana and Neapolitana. 2. We saw the pizza sit on the counter for 5 minutes before being served, not good, it came rather lukewarm to the table. 3. While the service was very professional and correct, the extra cordiality you would expect from a restaurant like that - was unfortunately not there. 4. Good products, tasty dough, great wine list, but unfortunately not quite living up to our expectations. We had a nice evening, though, thank you.

A Culinary Gem in Sofia! ✨✨✨ The ambiance is both elegant and inviting, featuring unique design elements like hand-painted sphere lamps and intertwining wooden accents that create a warm and sophisticated atmosphere. The menu is a delightful fusion of Italian and Mediterranean flavors, with standout dishes such as the truffle pizza, which many consider the best they’ve ever tasted. The wine selection is thoughtfully curated, complementing the diverse menu perfectly. Service is prompt and professional, with a friendly staff that enhances the overall dining experience. Whether you’re seeking a romantic dinner, a family gathering, or a special celebration, UNICA provides a memorable setting. Its central location makes it a convenient choice for both locals and visitors.

Lots to say about this place. For a place trying to clearly deliver a fine dining experience, as most places in Bulgaria, they lack qualities that I expect when you pay 100lev+ per person. First off, we arrive, no hostess to greet us and the waiters send us back to wait for her to come back. Then, the waiters did a great job making sure everyone had their drinks. After that, because they required us to order starters in advance as we were a big group (12 people. Something I find crazy to start), they brought the starters and just put them in the middle of the table without saying anything. This created maximum confusion. So we continued our conversation without touching our food for 5 minutes until the waiters came back and explained which dish is which and gave them to the correct individuals. Then, the service was inconsistent. We were there for 2 hours and at times we had empty glasses for 15 minutes without having a server offering us a new drink and at times, they were terrific. Some waiters were terrific at explaining dishes, offering drinks and providing a terrific service. There was one or two that created some confusion and was difficult to talk to (in Bulgarian). Then, seeing a waiter vape/smoke while working and having some people smoke their electrical cigarettes indoors is crazy. Also having napkin holders on tables is crazy for a fine dining restaurant. It is not a bistro. And for the food, I appreciate the menu and the chef's trying interesting techniques. Great flavors with most dishes. But once again, they had interesting choices. Some dishes were presented beautifully, great job. But for the apple salad, why did it have so much dressing? It felt like we were drinking the dressing at points. For the duck, an interesting choice. It was tasty but it felt like we were eating a duck meat loaf. Not very elegant. And the pickled radish is always a smart choice to have with the duck on the plate (the acid cuts through the fattiness of the duck nicely) but why was it whole? I would expect a julienne cut to work best. The pasta (fussili) was terrific and my favorite dish. Desserts were nice as well. That is enough I guess. Decent experience but still a lot of short comings. I have yet to find a proper fine dining experience in Bulgaria. It meets the "Bulgarian fine dining" experience though .

We had dinner at Unica Restaurant and left with mixed feelings. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the interior design is quite nice, but there’s no natural daylight inside. After about an hour of dining on the ground floor, we began to feel the lack of fresh air—this might not be an issue on the upper floor, though. The food was beautifully presented in small gourmet portions, but unfortunately, the taste didn’t live up to the visuals. It wasn’t bad, but definitely not worth the high prices they were asking. Even a simple bottle of water was 7.50 BGN, which felt quite overpriced. Overall, it's a place to visit once for the ambiance, but since it’s a restaurant, people go expecting a memorable food experience, which sadly was lacking. Not sure many would return for a second visit.

The University Botanical Garden in Sofia is a tranquil oasis set amidst the grandeur of Sofia's historic buildings. With over 2500 species of plants, it is a beautiful garden and greenhouse that is well worth visiting for those interested in flora. It has an entrance fee, and is located in the city centre.
Magical place. I have been to the garden several times and still every time is like the first. For only 6 leva you can enjoy a quiet time in the company of centennial trees, blooming flowers and exotic plants. Small but very very charming garden.

The entrance is through a shop selling flowers, 3 greenhouses- one with succulents, one with palms and other high plants, third with various plants. Overall it’s a small garden but quite pretty

A bit hidden, but nice place to visit when exploring the center of Sofia. It's the oldest botanical garden in Bulgaria and has a nice 130+ year old oak.

Definitely a must see in Sofia! Loved it there even if I'm not into plants. There were almost no visitors on Sunday at noon, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Has a nice view of the St. Alexander Nevsky cathedral, and a cute kitty in the back yard. It was my first visit, will go back in the spring for sure.
Yoan M — Google review
A magic place in the centre of the city! The botanical garden is not too rich but the yard is well maintained with nice benches to sit and rest, beautiful flowers, an old tree, insect hotels... When you are sick of the pressure of the city and have only a bit of spare time, do not hesitate to pop in. You will be delighted and will feel relaxed.

Altruist - Urban Coffee Shop & Bakery is a must-visit spot in Sofia, offering a classy and elegant atmosphere. The interior is clean and inspiring, with white backgrounds and creative artwork on the walls. The spacious cafe features stylish modern art deco design with tall ceilings and beautiful golden lamps. It's known for exceptional coffee, warm staff, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes visitors feel at home.
Excellent coffee and cakes! First coffee spot in Bulgaria that could make a cortado—and it was delicious. The Frida cappuccino with caramel was also delicious. Enjoyed the lavender cake and it was superb. Overall, a great coffee spot in Sofia and the outdoor garden makes it even better!

I had a great experience at Altruist. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. It’s a very popular spot, so finding a table can be tricky, but there’s a glass-covered terrace at the back with more seating, a perfect place to relax and enjoy your meal.

I like ice latte, and cake was ok, it tastes more like panna cotta than a cake tho. About service, I’d honestly rather work here than be a customer here. The people who work here you can see them look so chill and professional, enjoying their coffee, snacks and chatting. As an Asian visitor, I know I don’t speak Bulgarian, so I always try to be as polite as possible. Unfortunately, the lady who served me was clearly having a bad day — not only without a smile, but she also made me feel like I was bothering her just by being here. Other people don’t bother to mind me at counter as well. I’ve stayed in Bulgaria for two months and visited many places. This kind of attitude is, unfortunately, something I’ve encountered more than once in the service industry here. Most Bulgarians I’ve met are warm and friendly, but in service, I may have been spoiled by the Asian culture — where we simply wouldn’t treat even strangers on the street this way. Rude service is a shame, because the atmosphere here could have been perfect.

Matcha with coconut milk – wonderful. Delicious croissant and something else I can’t remember the name of. Fresh and warm. Highly recommend! Great that they’re open in the morning.
Jagg — Google review
i loved the cake selection, it’s a great place for a small “coffee and a treat” spot. the interior was a bit confusing and not really cohesive but overall pleasant! there is also a garden/covered outdoor sitting area in the back that looked very cozy. i had a matcha that was not the best quality (that comes from an experienced matcha drinker), however it was decent, and a pumpkin loaf that was a tad dry but very delicious! if i had more days in sofia i’d definitely go back to try more of their treats/cakes cause everything looked amazing! there was also a vegan/sf option which i appreciate!!!

To be honest, best macha in Sofia so far.... The matcha taste is very strong and it js not so sweet which exactly how matcha should be, I really recommend to try and the price is suitable for the size too!

We chanced upon this cafe during a rainy day and what an absolute gem😍. Great atmosphere with walls lined with contemporary art, cosy lighting and jazz music playing in the background.. The cakes were a feast for the eyes and palate, and looked very fresh and handmade. I chose the salted caramel and apple burnt cheesecake with a matcha latte and my husband a Greek cheese pie and expresso. They were all delicious 😋.

What a great experience it was to pass by here. This café + concept store is very well curated and designed, where I could have stayed for well over an hour just admiring the packaging and design of every item. I was helped by the very friendly and knowledgeable Alexandra, that explained a ton of products, and helped me choose a bag of fantastic Yemeni coffee beans that I took home to make espresso. I only wish there were more stores like this everywhere. 🥰

The most reliable partner we ever had. Both as business and now as a retail client. Not to mention the superb taste of coffee
Darin S — Google review
Great place for coffee lovers. Very minimalistic design. They serve here great coffee, polite and knowledgeable staff. It’s quite expensive compared to the other similar places in Sofia. Also, they do not serve single shot espresso, you can have only double shot. It is not a deal-breaker but it will be good if they have single shot. Tables outside are lovely during the summer. You can find variety of fancy spices, tea, and quality chocolate. Highly recommended place for proper coffee experience!

So minimalist, so unique, and most importantly, so Third-Wave! An amazing place for a coffee lover like myself to meet other coffee aficionados, and of course enjoy single origin pour overs. I highly recommend this spot if you're in Sofia and a coffee addict !

This has to be one of the coolest designed places in the whole of Sofia. It’s a super hipster place that has a great atmosphere & even better coffee. We tried the cappuccino (€2) and it was perfect the staff members where super friendly & spoke English. They also sell some cool tea & coffee accessories.

While strolling through the city of Sofia I found this amazing place and I knew Inhad to try it. The interior and exterior design are on point and very well thought out, everything fits together. I love how this place is located in a small shed right next to the sidewalk...very very beautiful. Here you find an excellent choice of coffee and tea specialities, as well as a enormous variety of high-class spice's. I took a classy cappuccino and a cinnamon roll, which was made by "y dough". The taste was absolutely great and fulfilling. Drekka Coffee is the place to be for design and pleasure lover's of all kinds. PS: The price-quality ratio is absolutely justified for the high quality of the products and for the location in a big city like Sofia.

Brunch restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant Oborishte neighborhood, Starata Gospoja, or The Old Lady, is a charming spot that beckons brunch enthusiasts with its inviting atmosphere and delightful menu. This cozy eatery offers an array of breakfast and brunch options, including mouthwatering burgers paired with delectable sauces and generous salads. While the ambiance is warm and beautifully decorated, it’s worth noting that the space can be quite limited—often leading to a wait for tables during peak hours.
I’ve visited so many times and I can tell you even at its lowest I wasn’t disappointed. They changed the outdoor seating to a more comfortable one, service is faster than previous visits. Food is really good, I tried the French omelette with salmon - not really French, more like Asian, but still so tasty. This is the original location and it’s worth its hype.
Yavor Y — Google review
Pretty cosy atmosphere. Nice detailed decoration. Friendly and helpful staff that speaks fluent English. Nice breakfast and brunch options. The overall vibe is great. However, I was disappointed with the espresso. The coffee beans were over roasted giving a sour unacceptable taste to the coffee. Is that a crime that costs one star? Nope! It wouldn't be if the level of expectations were not set high. But at that level of prices? Sorry. It's the details that make the difference. Will I visit the place again? Sure. But I will expect a better coffee.
George S — Google review
If prices were 10-15% cheaper, this place would be on the shortlist of top brunch spots in Sofia. However, spending 30 EUR on two portions of Eggs Benedict and two cups of lemonade, feels excessive. So is 9 EUR for waffles with Nutella from a jar. Especially considering the overall simple flavors of each dish, the average ingenuity of the recipes, and the self-service nature of the place. That aside, the vibe is really great, and the staff is very very friendly and attentive. As noted earlier, the service here is semi self-service. Orders are made and paid at the counter, and then you take a number (and a set of utensils) to your table and wait for the food to be brought over. Overall, we enjoyed the experience, but will likely go to other, better venues like Cafe 1920, or La Prima.
Beɳ — Google review
Every time I come back the food is becoming more expensive and less tasty. The staff is doing the bare minimum most of the time with some few exceptions. Was a good brunch place before now it's just one of the many mediocre places to eat in Sofia.
Zornitsa B — Google review
The Old Lady is one of those restaurants that stays with you. From the moment we walked in, we felt special. The warm welcome, professional service, and refined menu made a lasting impression. Every dish was perfectly balanced, the ingredients were fresh, and the wine selection was spot-on. It’s the perfect place for both a romantic dinner and a special occasion.⭐️❤️
Bilyana D — Google review
It is on the street like a to go brunch and fast food. The burgers are really nice with great sauces. Big tasty salads but the place is very tiny and usually there's not enough tables for the amount of people that want to sit and it was around 3pm so should not be lunch or dinner time. Also service mechanic is strange and unusual... they give menu but you have to order at the bar and waiters bring you the order then. It's very overpriced also. For a salad and burger it was 35lv..
Nick B — Google review
Their Eggs Benedict are quite good! In general their menu is not big but have interesting and more different options as serving carrot bread with some of the breakfast items and having amazing mini doughnuts (called buhti) with homemade jams /chocolate. It’s a self serving place- you need to order inside on the bar but after that drinks and food is brought to the table
Monika A — Google review

The most authentic korean food restaurant I've been to. Very different food than what I've tasted even in other korean places, but good. It's strange and worth it. Tried a few things on the menu and loved everything, even the wine, which tasted very different than what you'd expect. It's not a touristy place, it's authentic. Have patience for the preparation.

The best Korean food I’ve had outside of Asia. I’m here constantly and I’ve never had a bad meal. The spicy seafood noodle soup is unbelievably exquisite. It’s a little pricey, but to be honest with prices everywhere in Sofia going up it’s not surprising. Will always recommend!

We like this authentic Korean place very much and go there often. The food is really amazing - tasty, fresh, light, balanced... The service is always friendly. There is a free parking nearby. I think the atmosphere could be improved with adding more Korean details. It's a bit pricey especially if you eat meat (we don't). There is no Bulgarian menu which is irritating for people who don't speak English or Korean (like my dad, he was very angry about this...). Overall, I would recommend it!

With 24 locations across six cities, this establishment offers a delightful mix of cuisines, including traditional Bulgarian fare alongside American, Italian, Japanese, Greek, Spanish, and Turkish dishes. We really enjoyed our visit here. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was lovely, and the service was top-notch. Our waiter was amazing—he cleared any tissues or empty plates almost immediately and offered refills before our drinks were even close to empty. The quirky cocktails and mocktails were a fun touch, and my daughter loved all the friendly attention. Every staff member we passed greeted us and said goodbye, which made us feel really welcome. The only thing is, the food came out super fast—so fast that it almost felt like they wanted us to finish and move on. Still, it was a great experience overall and we’d definitely come back.

We had a great experience at Happy Bar & Grill in Sofia Center. We had been to the Happy restaurant twice in Plovdiv and thought it was excellent so when we arrived in Sofia at the main metro station there was one right there so seemed an obvious choice for lunch. The queue was long even though it was only 1200 (though there were large numbers of students on their first day). Put our name down for a table and the line was well organised. The restaurant was deceptively large inside and was completely full. The menu is long and this time we both decided to go for a burger with some shrimp and roasted peppers as a starter. Everything was tasty and well cooked. The burgers were really moist and the buns soft. All washed down with one of their flavoured lemonades

The best place in Vitosha for tourism. You can reach it by bus or by car. There are big parking and a lot of places for food and drinks. You can start from there and reach several great places in 1-2h walk including the Boyana waterfall.
Ivaylo I — Google review
Signage is pretty awful, if you're not with a local, try to know what you're looking for it was a weekday and there was almost nobody around. I ended up (unintentionally) doing 16 km as I went to boyana waterfalls from the Golden Bridges side. With a boyana lake bonus stopover. If you're doing boyana, be sure to watch for the signs, there are a few in English with warnings about the dangers. I would stick to boyana as then you don't have to take a bus up the mtn and search for trailheads. Many of the signs are in disrepair and far above ones Line of Sight, so the language is an extra challenge

Huge boulders that all together look like a river of boulders flowing down. The nature around it is beautiful. Nice place for hiking and spending a day.

This stone river made of giant boulders is a true wonder of nature. Nice hike along these wonderous stones, simply beautiful.

Very very very nice place. I loved it and it was easy to get there.
A. N — Google review
The place is beautiful during any season. Unfortunately it is not properly maintained, so during the winter with all the ice it's a bit dangerous as it's too steep. Great to go on an adventure. Do not take your car there. Parking is a nightmare, and the road is not appropriate. Respect the nature and keep the place neat.

Business park
Sofia Tech Park is a hub for young companies, startups, entrepreneurs, and digital nomads. It exudes an innovative spirit and a mindset geared towards success. The park offers wonderful opportunities with its great design but could benefit from more food establishments. It's also an ideal venue for large events. However, visitors should be prepared for the summer heat by carrying water due to the lack of nearby offers.
During my recent visit and site inspection of Sofia Tech Park, I was impressed by its role as Bulgaria’s first science and technology park and a thriving hub for researchers, innovative startups, and established companies across Bulgaria and the Balkans. The park stands as a testament to the country’s commitment to fostering innovation and technological advancement. The facility is well-designed, with state-of-the-art laboratories, co-working spaces, and conference halls that cater to both startups and global enterprises. The park’s business incubator and acceleration programs create an ecosystem that encourages collaboration between academia, research institutions, and the private sector. One of the standout features is its modern infrastructure and commitment to cutting-edge research, particularly in ICT, life sciences, and green energy. The presence of leading tech companies and research organizations further enhances its credibility as a hub for innovation. The park’s strategic location in Sofia, with easy access to the airport and city center, makes it an ideal choice for international collaborations, corporate events, and research-driven initiatives. The management team’s forward-thinking approach and dedication to supporting entrepreneurs and researchers were evident throughout my visit. Overall, Sofia Tech Park is a key driver of technological progress in the region. Whether for startups seeking a launchpad, established companies looking for research partnerships, or organizations planning tech-focused events, it offers an environment designed for growth and innovation.
Zaim J — Google review
I previously rated the park with 5 stars due to the well-maintained separation between dogs and other animals, which was strictly enforced by security. However, recently, I've noticed that dogs and their owners are frequently found all over the park, rather than staying within the designated areas. This has become a concern for me, as it detracts from the park's overall organization and the experience it used to offer. I hope this issue will be addressed to restore the previous level of order and enjoyment.

Nice place for big and crowded events.
Lyubena R — Google review
Great design, wonderful opportunities there, but it needs more food establishments.
Bingle M — Google review
Nice place for startup / events / technology. Bad side: government driven. Parking is far, often you should wait for it.
Svetlin N — Google review
Beautiful park! Free charging ports all around, plenty of benches and very well kept grass and trees. The park itself is good for bringing friends and family, but where it really shines is when there is a conference - one of the best places in town to host one. The one thing it could use is more bus lines going to it, it can be a pain to get there.

Vazrazhdane Aqua Park is a popular destination in Sofia, conveniently located in the city center and easily accessible by public transportation. It offers a variety of activities for visitors of all ages, making it an ideal spot for families. The park features a sauna park with options like the salt room and various types of saunas including steam, infrared, and finish saunas. Additionally, there are playgrounds with slides for both kids and adults to enjoy.
We had a lovely day here during summer vacation. It wasn’t crowded at all (but not empty), so queues at the slides were very short. The three slides (one of them with 3 tracks) are much fun. The bar is well equipped and the bar tenders are very nice. The backdrop of the scenery is kind of cool, too.
Munir H — Google review
Overpriced -33 Lev for the outside pools and you're not allowed to bring your own food/drinks. In comparison: my local pool in Germany with great slides and way bigger green area is only 12 Lev and you can even bring your own food. Don't understand how the prices came be so high here, no wonder life here is tristw for a lot of people.
Tamai — Google review
We had a great time. Contrary to what others say the pool was safe and clean. It was empty when we visited. the staff was polite and spoke English. We were allowed to bring in our own food and drinks. Highly recommend

Located inside a beautiful park with different sports facilities. Well organised and maintained. Kind and welcoming staff. Clean and well designed pools and jacuzzi. Plenty of sun umbrellas and tables for each two. Slopes are fuuun!!! Bar by the pool an restaurant take good care for your energy levels! Dressing rooms with coded lockers, dressing cabins with hair dressers, clean toilets and showers. A visit there is time well spent! Highly recommend!

It's new, but the hygiene is not on the top level as it should be. Otherwise it's better than many other swimming pools in Sofia. The changing room is small , which is a buf minus. For 9 lv you have no limited time to swim, which is the best thing of all. Must visit if you have time.
Alek S — Google review
The place itself is really, really nice. It’s relatively close to the city. Only a 8 min walk from the bus station. The price is ok for a one time visit. The water was a tiny bit murky. The people at the check in and the security warden were extremely nice. The prices at the bar and restaurant a fairly high. The friendliness of the staff ok. Even though it was a day with 37°C it was not too crowded. The real annoyance though were the lifeguards. Though there were many some of them were constantly on their phones or books instead of watching the water. I have a different expectation of these professionals. However, shortly before we left after almost 4 hours they told my daughter and another girl they weren’t allowed to go in the water with their swimming shorts. Those were proper swimming shorts. Not regular shorts! Made from a fast drying material. Another woman tried to talk to them again and explain that those aren’t different from the ones the boys were wearing but they wouldn’t give in. Luckily we were on our way out anyway. But this really made me mad as it is a discrimination. What a pity. It could have been a great stay.
Franziska ( — Google review
Nice aqua park. Not so crowded like other places in the city. Dressing room should be renovated and food at the restaurant is basic as a choice, but they prepare the food very fast. Clean water.
Tsvetomir T — Google review
Simple aquapark very central in Sofia. Pool was warm but kids play area pool water was freezing. The concept is great and it has some fun slides, good pool and very clean installations. On the day we went (early August) , it was cloudy and 25 degrees so we were the only ones there for the first 4 hours! Unfortunately, the staff was quite rude and more importantly, all the LIFEGUARDS spent their day playing games on their phone... Some even sleeping on lawn chairs (yes, one On-duty one) and smoking while explaining to kids how to get on the mat for the slide. As we werd leaving, a you do child hurt himself jumping in a shallow pool and despite his cries, the 2 lifeguards 2 meters away (deep in a phone game) didn't even turn to look what was happening. It's disappointing because this place has got great potential but the staff was disappointing.

The "Ruski Pametnik" Shopping Centre is a bustling marketplace in the heart of Sofia, surrounded by historic buildings, museums, and charming pedestrian walks. While the central location can be crowded and noisy, the area near South Park offers a quieter atmosphere. Parking can be challenging in this area, so many visitors opt for inexpensive taxis or public transport. Vitosha Boulevard is a shopper's paradise with souvenir shops, Bulgarian specialties, and popular chain stores like H&M.
You can find almost all you search for here! You can finf: Kitchen appliances Food Fresh fish 2 Hardware stores And many more Really useful and close to the center of the city, staff is really nice and helpful

A place where one could find a couple of shops, selling mostly foods - fish, meat, vegetables, diary products but also wine, cosmetics, home appliances. One could find there some take away warm foods.... The overall view is not very tidy but one can often find what they look for.

The Rosarium in 'Knyaz-Borisova Garden' is a charming spot located within the bustling Borisova Garden. It's a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, offering a serene atmosphere amidst the lively activities of the park. The garden was renovated around four years ago and is well-maintained, providing an ideal setting to admire the beautiful rose collection. While it may lack shade during hot weather, it's currently a cozy place to visit before the roses bloom.
The Rosarium in "Knyaz-Borisova Garden" looks much better after the reconstruction. A nice place to sit, relax and enjoy the roses.

Museum
Step into the world of ancient creatures at the Museum of Paleontology and Historical Geology, where you can marvel at some of Europe's most remarkable paleontological finds. Among these discoveries is one of only four nearly complete deinotherium skeletons in the world, unearthed near Asenovgra by Dimitar Kovachev and his students. The museum, located on the fifth floor inside Sofia University, houses a vast collection of fossils from various eras.
It's just a very small museum inside the university building. No entrance fees. The exhibits are interesting and displayed in old fashioned display units. Just visiting the old university building is a unique experience. Visit the central entrance hall if possible. Like stepping back in time.

Below 0! Being there at 14:15 I just had the chance to see a staff lady locking the door. She said "I've got THINGS to do, will be back in 10 minutes!". After 40 minutes coridor-waiting on feet I left. Well I"ve listened to the audioguide bought for the ocasion from BOOKING.com, but... Very, very bad experience!
Boyko S — Google review
at first, this is not a regular museum, but a collection of fossils used for study purposes of Sofia university students, anyhow public visitors are allowed. How to get there? step1 locate the access to the building itself-which is not from the main street but from the back of the facility, actually it is access to the inner yard. step 2 entrance is on your right, so walk in. step 3A once inside you can ask (or as i did - show the fossil picture to a "security" guy) for directions, but i am pretty sure the instructions will be in bulgarian OR: step 3B once inside on your left there will be a corridor, at the end of the corridor is a large staircase step 4 climb the staircase to the top - an expo room is located on the 5th floor. Done, simple as that :-) you could be asked for a decent entrance. **parking: no parking available, only street parking **eat/drink: i saw only vending machines on the corridors **bathrooms: free, located aside of the staircase on each floor

We didn't actually got the chance to see the incide, because it was closed , despite Google search saying it's open. It's inside Sofia's university, on the 4 th floor. The lift there is one of the scariest experiences I ever had- no incide door, you see how you pass each floor, and if you're not quick enough to open the outside door immediately as the lift stops, it just goes down again. There's no AC as far as we could tell and the building of course smells of smoking inside. Not sure it's a nessessare experience.
Julz K — Google review
This is not a museum more like a place to study the different fossiles. Difficult to find. Enter the university and go to the North Wing. Take the elevator to the 4th floor and then the steps up to the 5th 4floor. The place is closed from 12-13 o clock. If you ask for the museum, nobody will know what you talk about. Just ask for the skeleton. The person working there is very interested in explaining the fossils in Bulgarian or English and super friendly. Entrance is 2 Leva for adults. 1 Leva for a child. The Deinotherium was found in Ezerovo in 1965 and is the most intact skeleton. There is also a great hall with a lot of fossiles like clamps, fish, different teeth, seashells, ammonites, sponges and more ( very hot inside).
Alena P — Google review
Here's a quick guide on how to get to the museum: Enter the Sofia University campus and head towards the 5-story building on your left. Once inside the building, turn left and then turn right at the end of the corridor and continue walking until you see a staircase. Take the stairs to the 5th floor and you'll find the museum. If you're still lost, feel free to ask any students for directions. They'll be happy to help! Now, onto the museum itself: I had a wonderful time exploring the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" Zoological Museum. It's a treasure trove of fossils and preserved animal specimens, showcasing the incredible diversity of life on Earth. While most of the exhibits are labeled in Bulgarian, the sheer variety and fascinating nature of the displays make it a worthwhile visit for anyone. I spent about an hour wandering through the museum, and I could have easily spent more time taking in all the exhibits. Overall, I highly recommend the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" Zoological Museum to anyone interested in natural history or just looking for a unique and educational experience. It's a hidden gem on the university campus that's well worth seeking out.

An amazing collection of fossils , from different era. The museum is inside the university on the fifth floor , very big exhibition. The curator, Svetlozar, very kindly and professionally explained to us about every collection, very patient and interesting person.
