The Oregon Coast Aquarium, spanning 23 acres, is a popular destination for both locals and tourists. It serves as an educational hub for visitors of all ages and learning styles. The aquarium boasts various exhibits, including the Passages of the Deep tunnel featuring sharks, rays, and rockfish. Notably, it was once home to Keiko, the orca from 'Free Willy.'
One of the best aquariums I have been too. The aquarium is compact, with little to no walking time between exhibits. There is an outdoor section with the larger animals and an indoor with more smaller fish. There is a cool tide pool exhibit, and overall the experience was great! The staff were friendly and welcoming and answered all questions. They also have feeding times and presentations on the animals at each exhibit every few hours or so. Definitely recommend!
Theophany K — Google review
The aquarium was a really enjoyable experience. We especially loved the underwater tunnels and the creatively designed rock structures — they added a fun, immersive touch. The layout was spacious and open, which made it easy to explore without feeling crowded or constantly brushing past other visitors. One downside, though, was the limited number of exhibits. While the displays they do have are beautifully done and feature a few unique ocean creatures we haven’t encountered at other aquariums, we found ourselves finishing the entire visit in about 30 minutes. The art installations made from ocean trash were visually striking and carried an important message, but we would have preferred to see more live marine animals. Overall, it’s a well-designed space with a few standout features, but the small variety of exhibits left us wanting more.
Kelsey A — Google review
My 5 year old insisted on coming here twice during our 3 night trip. Highly recommend the membership! The touch pool was really cool. Volunteers are helpful and knowledgeable. We very much enjoyed our visits and will be back again.
Corinna L — Google review
This is a nice aquarium but very small. It was perfect for my 3 yr old grandson to get some exposure to sea life. Touching a starfish and experiencing the shark tunnel were his favorite things. While very nice, it’s no where near my favorite aquarium in Monterey Bay, CA.
S L — Google review
Jellyfish, eels, sharks, anemone, sea otters, and perhaps most alarmingly, sturgeon! (Do you know how big those things get? And they are in the rivers around here.) Ample parking though it is a walk, even from ADA. Restrooms are nice and easy to find. Much of the interior path is gravel and can be a little uneven. Benches always seem easy to find. I would like to see more regular presentations and information about the wildlife. it would also be nice to know when those presentations were going to happen in advance, but I was not able to easily access that information. The gift shop seems nice, you are directed to walk through it on the way to leave, I did not stop to look at the prices. The price to get in is reasonable if a bit tough. They do have discounts for individuals in financial need with documentation, so you may want to look into that if you’d like to take your family, you can get half off of the regular price, but you have to buy your tickets there. The half off program does not apply to annual memberships.
Jeffrey G — Google review
The aquarium we visited was truly remarkable! We arrived just in time for the highly anticipated otter show, which captivated both kids and adults alike. The presentation delved into the fascinating history of otters and how these playful creatures came to reside in this particular aquarium. During the show, we witnessed expertly timed feedings and engaging discussions about sea otters, all of which were a delight to watch. As we continued our exploration of the aquarium, we were amazed by the incredible diversity of marine life on display. From the charming puffins, flapping their wings and diving into their habitats, to the sleek eels coiling through their tanks, and the graceful bat rays gliding elegantly through the water, there was something for everyone to marvel at. The entire experience is definitely worth a stop if you find yourself along the coast. It's an ideal destination for visitors of all ages, ensuring that everyone leaves with a sense of wonder and appreciation for the ocean's inhabitants!
Mona ( — Google review
After reading the reviews I was very excited about visiting here. $30 per person entrance is a little on the high side, but it's for the animals. They have much fewer exhibits than I expected and the number of animals was minimal. The touch tank is substantial with knowledgeable staff. Passages of the Deep was impressive, walking through the tunnel and being surrounded by fish, sharks and other creatures of the ocean. The have a lot of sculptures that are made from ocean trash which brings much needed awareness. The gift shop was completely off putting. Everything was WAY over priced. Many items were just generic that I could get anywhere. I my expectations also might have been higher after experiencing NYC, San Diego, Seattle & Vancouver, and unfortunately this couldn't hold candle to any of those. Overall it wasn't bad, but I wouldn't go back.
Amanda B — Google review
Highly recommend visiting UNLESS you have a disabled person in your party. Several parents also complained about stroller accessibility. The paths are small gravel, most of it NOT hard packed. So it is nearly impossible to push a wheelchair through. The restrooms labeled handicap also do not allow a wheelchair to get in, much less into a stall. I'm pretty disappointed for such a modern facility and one such as this. I would have still rated higher but im pretty disappointed the person who sold us our tickets didn't warn us. Also there is no warning that I saw online. These days, it's pretty safe to assume a public facility like this would be handicap accessible. It just plain is not. It left a bad taste in my mouth that the gift shop staff just sat there watching us struggle to open the door against the wind and push the wheelchair out. There was nobody in line to pay. A little thoughtfulness would have gone a long way. It's sort of chaps your hide when they have a kid in a wheelchair as part of their display and they do that. Throughout the park, several staff apologized and explained part of the two year plan is to pave the paths. Again...we would have appreciated knowing that before purchasing tickets. Only other negative comment is I wish they had staff more spread throughout the aquarium. Not just to educate but also to help control the badly parented children who shriek nonstop, bang on the glass and stomp on the floor glass. It actually ruined the experience completely. Screaming kids is one thing but paying to be stuck in a glass tunnel with them squealing at the top of their lungs nonstop is entirely another. I get that kids are a part of the targeted customer group but they shouldn't be allowed to wreck the experience for adults. It wasnxt just a few, excited outbursts, which is to be expected. It was all-out screaming nonstop from a handful of kids. That really needs to be managed by staff if the parents won't. It isn't acceptable. They shouldn't be allowed to wreck it for other paying customers like that. Other than that, the place is absolutely gorgeous and the staff is knowledgeable and eager to share their knowledge.

Nye Beach also boasts a charming historic district with shops, dining options, and art venues.
Nye Beach is an absolutely beautiful spot to spend a day, whether you're with family, a significant other, or even enjoying some time alone. A great place to go to cool down in Newport Oregon. Lots of kites are flown here and it is a really beautiful spot!
Carol W — Google review
Solid beach, beautiful sand, wide open spaces. Watched a couple let there dog take a giant crap on the beach, and just walk away from it. As foul as it gets folks. Great place to fly a kite! Watched the local wizard working 3.
Michael L — Google review
Beautiful and relaxing beach, perfect for a night walk on the beach. When there isn’t a fire ban, great place to build a beach fire and easy access to get on the beach from the parking lot.
J ( — Google review
Beautiful beach! Lots of restaurants and shops in the area where you don't really have to walk too far to.
Lennon G — Google review
I always stay in this historic district in Newport for the nice beach to walk on, the amazing sunrises over the ocean, and the great variety of places to eat in. The area is home to the Visual Arts Center, the Performing Arts Center, and a number of galleries. You can access the beach at Davis Park and at the Nye Beach Turnaround with parking at both places. The area was the first resort area of Newport and has a small village feel to it with hotels, shops, restaurants, and a number of other services. A great place to stay in Newport with a long beach to walk on, art galleries to browse in, bakeries to grab a sweet treat, beautiful sunsets and sunrises over a endless horizon.
Ed L — Google review
Absolutely a must visit place. Its beautiful and pristine. Great place to spend a day with family and friends. Adequate parking space available. Lots of food options nearby.
Varun J — Google review
Picturesque and then some. Unlike many of the beaches which are flat, and unremarkable, this beach is nearly as perfect as Neskowin's or Pacific City's. There was one dog off leash, but with respectful owners in terms of space. Don't get trapped out on the rocks when the tide comes in!

Wildlife refuge
Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area is a stunning oceanfront park featuring a beach made of round rocks and an iconic 1870s lighthouse. This natural area extends for a mile into the Pacific Ocean, making the 93-foot tall lighthouse crucial for guiding ships. The site also includes an interpretive learning center with exhibits on marine life, sea birds, and local history.
Really nice place! The winds were absolutely incredible at the top here! I never thought id enjoy a lighthouse so much! There was a great visitors center that you should not skip! It helped me learn so much about the history of the lighthouse! Once at the lighthouse we were able to see seals and birds! It was such a treat to seem them playing! Be careful of the high winds and dress well! (Even in the summer!) Then drive down so you can visit the beach line and see some animals up close! Parking is 7 dollars per car!
Milen P — Google review
Our second visit to this beautiful lighthouse was wonderful. The lighthouse was open so we were able to tour and take photos, it was amazing to see the interior and the gorgeous staircase. There is lots of walking baths for photos, including a large group of seals sunning themselves. The interpretive center is fun to walk through and has lots of information. The only cost is getting into the entrance, per car, unless you have a parks pass. We loved it!
Meredith E — Google review
I wish they had informed us when we stopped to pay our entrance fee, that they closed it down at 5pm (about 20 minutes after our arrival) and that the beach would be closed 15 minutes before 5... or if they had posted a sign at the top of the stairs staring what time the beach closed or something... instead of allowing people to walk down all those stairs only to be told the beach is closed when you get to the bottom. That was SUPER annoying. But I'm still giving it 4 stars because it's a beautiful place and, given you get there with plenty of time, looks to be a great beach to explore.
Cat W — Google review
The surf was running high the day visited. There were surfers catching waves to the south. You can't go to the top of the lighthouse, but the lower portion is an educational experience. We had blast watching the pounding surf from the Top and down on cobble beach near the Devils Punchbowl. Wanted to go to the tidepools but the surf was over them. The visitors center is where you get a great deal of history.
Roy B — Google review
Very cool experience with lots of hands on. You are allowed to touch all of the wildlife (except dangerous ones of course) there are info sheets and beautiful tide pools. The air smells salty and the waves calm you senses. For $7 it is well worth the trip.
Josiah W — Google review
BLM-run. $7 3-day vehicle pass. Curtailed hours due to staffing issues (spelled FelonPrez), so check ahead. Great 153-year-old lighthouse to view, with nearby Interpretive Center. Fabulous 'Cobble Beach' covered in jet-black, rounded basalt stones is absolutely not wheelchair negotiable (you could easily lose footing even if you're balancing with four appendages) - which is probably why the only access to it is an M.C. Escher-esqe, steep 300+ step wooden staircase. But, you can watch seals & enjoy nifty tidepools if your timing & equilibrium are good. Grand views all around.
Catalina R — Google review
Loving it everytime I am here. Parking was only 7 dollars Love the cobble beach as the pebbles hit the beach. Lovely sound thst I makes as the whole pebble was dragged on the shore.
Yuan — Google review
Absolutely stunning views! The wind can be a bit much, but the lighthouse makes up for it. The seals/sea lions (I am not sure which they were) soaking up the sun made for some extra entertainment. We can't forget the birds on the rock. They were right at home. You have to pay ($7, I think) to enter/park, but I think it's worth the stop!

The Newport Historic Bayfront is a lively area filled with gift shops, art galleries, and seafood restaurants where you can also spot resident sea lions. It's the perfect place to experience the best of Newport in one afternoon. You can watch fishermen catching crabs off the dock, savor fresh seafood at local eateries, and explore attractions like museums and quirky shops along the pier.
Stunning bay views. Nice walk deck and lots of benches to sit down and enjoy views. Always smells like sea food but what do you expect.

It’s always worth a stop in Historic Newport Bay on a beautiful day. Walk around the shops, checking out the harbor seals and buying some fudge at 2 kids Candy store.
Dyanne G — Google review
Great place to sit or to take a stroll. Plenty of stores to do a little window shopping and places to eat. We got to encounter some seals up close, which was pretty cool to experience.
Marlene P — Google review
What an awesome experience! We walked through the many stores and art galleries, bought fish from a fishing boat, and ate at the Clearwater Restaurant. The restaurant is on the bay with views of the seals and marine vessels coming in and out of the harbor. When you walk down the bay front, they have about a 100 benches dedicated to people who passed. There are historical placards that explain the history of the dedications and how the benches are being refurbished. This is well worth a day trip!
Roni W — Google review
Pretty place, some of the interesting locals were a bit sketchy but the view is gorgeous, the shops are cute, and it was fun.

We visited Newport during weekdays. It was not crowded. We got to try food from the restaurants and walked around looking for sea lions. Lots of tourists made it a point to take photos with these sea lions. 😉

Located in Newport, Oregon and operated by Oregon State University, the Hatfield Marine Science Center spans 20 acres of land. The center's Visitors Center has been open to the public since 1965 and offers a wide array of exhibits featuring live marine animals and educational displays on various ocean-related topics such as weather, ocean resource management, fishing, and tidepool creatures. Additionally, it provides public programs and tours throughout the year.
$5 per person (over 6yrs) Plenty of parking (Thursday morning in December) This place has several areas that will be interesting for all ages. When you go in, first go to the left in a circle and you will see a place that gives you a chance to pilot a boat in simulation. Then there are tanks with sea creatures and fish, lots of information on the ocean. As you go around, about half the center is interactive focusing on tsunami simulations for kids (and adults who are kids at heart). My daughter and I really enjoyed a sand topography feature which allowed us to move sand and see it on screen look like land and water. We also loved building Lego houses to see how they might withstand a tsunami. We went during a weekday in December and it was not crowded at all, so nice! The staff are very friendly and welcoming. If you keep your ticket, it's good for all day if you want to get lunch and bring your kids back to play more. This is a place that could potentially occupy busy boys for a few hours. They have a cool pet octopus and they will let you know when they are feeding the octopus.
R Y — Google review
Great place to bring kids to learn about the coastline! All its living components, fish, animals, tides. Such a variety of hands on activities for kids. Very reasonably priced. Especially good for a rainy coastal day.
Kristin K — Google review
This museum is AMAZING! My fiance, children and I had such a fun time. (10/10). I loved the childrens interactive sections and loved that it was affordable!! We loved seeing the different oceanic animals, the wave makers and being able to touch the sea anemones. One of the highlights of our trip! Thank you ♡
Trisha P — Google review
My 5yr old could have played here all day. We loved the open ended hands on activities, especially the tsunami simulator and touch tank. Very knowledgeable and friendly volunteers as well. Really good value for the price!
Amber V — Google review
Excellent for adults and children. Lots of history and solid information. We'll worth the inexpensive entrance fees.
Rick A — Google review
Great for kids and adults! This is definitely geared towards older kids (probably best for 6+) but my 4yo enjoyed himself. There was a lot to read and learn - you could definitely spend a few hours here. They have exhibits about NOAA, fisheries, tsunami-proof architecture, and so, so much more. It's a unique place and not your typical science center or aquarium so definitely worth a visit! I'm glad we skipped the pricey Aquarium and opted to go here instead. We biked here from South Beach State Park and it was a very kid-friendly ride 🚲
Coulee D — Google review
Very cool, highly recommend a visit. Check their website for when they do Octopus feedings bc that was fun, but expect a crowd around the tank. I also had a fascinating conversation with a lady that works there (or was maybe a volunteer) about how Urchins affect the kelp without the otters to keep them in check. You can tell they are passionate about their field. And only $5 admission!
Amber T — Google review
Fascinating ocean-related hands-on "discovery"-style museum. We paid $5 for more than an hour of fun activities. We could have stayed longer. There's a tide pool touch zone, computer-based activities, wave-making contraptions, a simulated ship's helm where you have the opportunity to maneuver a research vessel from dock out to the ocean, sea creatures, lots of exhibits and more typical museum info/learning. A great place for kids and adults.

Campground
South Beach State Park, located south of Newport, is a 500-acre park that offers a variety of activities for visitors. The park features a sheltered campground separated from the beach and jetty by marshes and fields with walking trails. It is open to the public year-round and provides facilities such as hiking trails, viewpoints, wildlife sighting opportunities, biking paths, fishing areas, beach access, kayak launching spots, and hot showers.
The campsites on the west side of the road are large because there is a 15’ open space behind the sites and before the coastal forest begins. In mid February it wasn’t crowded. They have a few paths out to the beach so one path is close to every site.
Nancy S — Google review
A wonderful place to stay, especially being so close to Newport. The mosquitos were a bit annoying in early June, however they weren't terrible once it cooled down in the evening. The beach is a wonderful place to play in the sand, checkout the south jetty, or just look for seashells. It's a very big campground, so definitely take the map when they offer it to you!
Asher M — Google review
Drove in last minute and snagged B30 with water and elect. Close to the bathroom and showers. 1/4 mi to the beach which was a long stretch of clean beautiful nature. It’s a campground so don’t expect privacy but it was clean and B30 was spacious
B W — Google review
One of the nicest state park we have ever stayed with our RV. The staff as helpful as can be! Close to a fantastic beach and lots of hikes around the park. I wish i could have stayed longer.
Marijke L — Google review
Awesome campground. Lots of spaces for rvs and tents. Neighbors were respectful. You could hear the sea lions on the docks from the campground.
Mason M — Google review
The pups had a blast at this beach. $10 parking permit fee, but it's clean, big, and flat. There are restrooms and sprayers to rinse off when you are done.
Allison M — Google review
There are several public access sites for this beach. All involve stairs and/or dune climbing. Parking can be wicked hard to find weekends & summers. Took my kite down to the beach & was the only one there for nearly an hour.
Willfram C — Google review
This is a very LARGE campground. + Park had 3 main beach access trails. One is in excellent condition and is maintained for visitors with physical limitations. The other two are "ruff" in sections. + Nice paved 2 mile walking / bike trail goes from the day use area to the South Beach Jetty area. Path crosses the above mentioned beach access trails. Path is nice and wide. So it was joy to bicycle with my husky along side. - Very little to no privacy in between camp spots. - Cell service is very limited / not available in spots. - Bathrooms could use better cleaning.

We’ve been coming to Newport for years but for some reason we’ve always skipped this attraction. This time I took my 6 year old and we had an absolute blast!! I don’t understand the bad reviews. As an adult in my thirties, I had a great time! And my daughter had even more fun! It is on the pricier side, but that’s to be expected these days. But it was 100% worth it!! We had so much fun that we will come again next time we visit Newport. Definitely pay extra for the wax museum! It was our favorite part!

Completed in 1871, it is the second oldest lighthouse in Oregon and the only remaining wooden lighthouse in the state. Although it was decommissioned in 1874 and fell into disrepair, it was restored and relit in 1996.
This historic lighthouse is definitely worth a quick visit. It has a great view and lots of interesting historically accurate artifacts. There are lots of signs that explain things and there was also a nice volunteer who was available to answer questions when I was there. I really enjoyed learning about the family that lived there and the duties of the keeper. The building was recently restored so now is a great time to visit even if you have seen it before.

At this time (Aug '25), the lighthouse is fenced off during refurbishment. Still, there the car park is open and the views are awesome!

The lighthouse is newly renovated and is looking amazing! This has always been a must stop for my family on every trip to the Oregon Coast.

We made it by the Grace of God just 45 minutes before they were closing it for the year. Such a nice and knowledgeable staff and a beautiful lighthouse feeled with history in it. I will be going again next year. Best Halloween vacation ever!!!

I have always loved this lighthouse. Since my youth this was always a fun place to visit. The ghost story was always a ton of fun. What's changed? No more access to the basement or the actual light. The gift shop is gone. The house is in desperate need of some tlc. The paint is suffering. But, it still holds all the imagination and fun wonderful things that have made this a life long go to spot. Beautiful places to take photos. Great picnic areas.

Beautiful setting. On the day we went, we couldn't go inside the lighthouse. But the tide pools down below are absolutely amazing. We spent the majority of our time down here. The have a nice dog area off the main parking area, so you can bring pups if you want, but not down to the tide pool area. Great for kids and adults alike. Plenty of parking.
Richard S — Google review
Such a beautiful location. The lighthouse has been kept up nicely. Definitely brings you back in time. I believe that it is volunteers who are on site should you have any questions. You can not go up to the light but you can walk through the 2 floors of living space that gives you an ideas of the time period when people lived on site. There is a garden on site but it has not been kept up at this time. Restrooms on site is a good thing. It is in a park like setting that you can walk to from town or to the bay.

The Yaquina Head Lighthouse, located in Newport, Oregon, has been guiding ships since 1873. Standing at 93 feet tall, it is the tallest lighthouse in Oregon and offers visitors the opportunity to climb steep stairs to reach the top. Situated on a narrow point of land extending into the Pacific Ocean, it provides stunning views of the ocean. Additionally, visitors can explore the life of light keepers through old diaries, vintage toys, and clothing on display.
Our visit to the Yaquina Head Lighthouse in the last week of April was absolutely wonderful! This is truly a must-visit destination on the Oregon Coast. Prepare to be captivated by a stunning 270-degree panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean – it's an incredible sight. You can also easily access the beach below via a staircase right next to the lighthouse, perfect for a quick stroll. This spot is an absolute dream for photographers, offering countless opportunities for picture-perfect snaps. Even if you're on a tight schedule, make sure to set aside at least an hour to fully appreciate the beauty here.
Kaustuv B — Google review
A fantastic experience! I parked at the lighthouse parking and went to the information centre and got a free poster. The staff were super friendly and informative. The walk along the cliffside was beautiful and I was able to see whales off in the distance as well as plenty of sea birds. I couldn't go in the lighthouse but the park area was well worth the trip.
Joe D — Google review
Yaquina Head is one of our favorite lighthouses on the Oregon Coast — definitely in our top three! We always enjoy coming here. The lighthouse itself is beautiful, and the area offers so much to see and do. Cobble Beach, just below the lighthouse, is one of our favorite spots for watching whales and exploring tide pools at low tide. On our most recent visit, we saw plenty of pelicans, a few California sea lions, and even spotted a couple of whales offshore. This is a must-visit stop for anyone traveling the Oregon Coast. We highly recommend it!
Wade N — Google review
This lighthouse is very easy to access. Elders can easily walked around and enjoy scenery. I strongly recommend this landmark. You can always stop by at the restaurants nearby for food and additional sightseeing. I didn't get on the hiking trails as we only made quick stop. However, I recommend this lighthouse as one of the many stops to make.
Potjamarn ( — Google review
We parked in the Yaquina Head Interpretive Center and walked to the lighthouse area. The walk on the path was easy. We didn't go over the hill. We spent a lot of time enjoying the scenery, birds, sea lions, and tide pools. The walk to the tide pools was harder because it's down stairs then back up. The rocks are not firm under your feet when walking on them around the tide pools.
Cheryl C — Google review
Wonderful place to visit on a low tide day . A small entrance fee takes you to one of amazing places of the west coast . The 70 feet tall lighthouse stands majestically atop a hillock . Left side a take the stairs to reach cobble beach where there several tide pools can be seen with sea animals like star fish ( sea stars) ur hind etc and the sea lions get a peculiar white colour due to leucism . Thousands of sea birds can be seen . Children will definitely enjoy
Ramakrishna — Google review
What an amazing place. History, nature and easy walking paths. A can't miss on the Coast Highway! Easy walk down to the ocean on well maintained stairs. Only $7.00 for the four of us.
Faron S — Google review
We loved exploring around Yaquina Head Lighthouse. Unfortunately the door was locked to the lighthouse so we couldn’t climb up it but I believe you can make reservations for tours up it. Regardless, the lighthouse itself is beautiful and you get great views from bottom. We also went down into the tide pools. Omg this was so fun and we saw so many different living creatures!! The climb down to the tide pools is a little scary- you have to climb on rocks- but it is definitely worth it!

Aquarium Village is a vibrant and eclectic destination that combines shopping with an aquatic-themed wonderland. The colorful storefronts are adorned with carved statues of marine animals, pirates, and their ships. Visitors can explore cafes, boutiques, souvenir shops, and more. The village also features a small zoo and an array of unique shops offering cool photo opportunities. It's a great place for family time, catering to various interests with its amusements, food options, and diverse range of shops.
Very interesting place. I grew up coming to Newport and never knew about this place. I recommend it if you are wanting to do a quick stop. There are different little shops within the village. Most were close when we went. But it definitely gave pirate village vibes. Art work is wonderful. Go check them out and support small businesses!

Funky collection of shops right by the Oregon Aquarium. We didn't know it was there, and saw it on our way out after the aquarium visit. The shop fronts are done up like the sterns of ships, castles, and other themes. There are pirate statues for photos and a full size orca statue.

Looks to be an interesting place. I wound have never found this place had I not been looking for a Photo Gallery Out West Photography, Aquarium Village is off the beaten path :-) I actually need to go back at later hours when the village the whole village is open. They even have Zoo there!! By the way the Gallery is Fantastic This whole area is worth a stop

They have really cool animals to feed and see. I felt really bad for the cute little Fennec Fox that was in the glass room. It was jumping like crazy on the glass, I wished I could have gotten to hold it. Great place for the kids to get up close to a lot of cool animals, like the Kangaroos or Sloths and the foxes.

I am looking forward to taking my grandson here. The little zoo looks like fun, but it's small and overpriced, I'll visit and see how the animals are treated and review it separately. The puppy "Doggy" was adorable. The Villages has a number of unique shops and plenty of cool photo opportunities. Fun place to take the kids. A trip to the Aquarium and then here would be a great family trip.

Nature & Parks
Agate Beach State Recreation Site is a stunning coastal destination located near Newport, Oregon. It offers a mix of sandy beaches and rocky shorelines with large agate rocks emerging from the water. The park is famous for its razor clam digging, but it also provides opportunities for surfing and beachcombing. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque ocean views and search for colorful agate stones along the shoreline. Additionally, there are tranquil hiking trails that wind through trees, streams, and wetlands filled with coastal wildlife.
Great spot. The parking here is nice, it wasn't too busy. Restrooms are good. I liked that there is a short tunnel under the main road to safely get from one side of the road to the beach side. The sand hills were intense and felt like a bit of a workout to get to the ocean. This is a beautiful place with a nice view of a lighthouse.
Lidiya T — Google review
I found it a perfect place to stop on a rainy day. Sand was compact, easy walking. Waves (tide) was low, so the beach was wide. Really beautiful. Small parking area, had to cross a stream of water to get to the beach (no bridge, so if you have mobility issues might not be a perfect spot). Didn't see restrooms. The beauty is what made me happy to visit. I saw many people bring their dogs.
C O — Google review
To get here, search for ‘agate beach state park beach parking’ across the street on the map, park there, and enter the area via the road and tunnel. Alternatively, you can park nearby and walk toward the hotel side to access the place. It’s a great spot for walking your dog and offers a nice distant view of the lighthouse. I came back here on a foggy morning for another walk with my dog—definitely a place I recommend.
Kai D — Google review
Quick spot to access the beach with ample parking. Don't forget to bundle up as this is one of the most windy beaches around. It is close to lodging so this beach does get crowded.
Ashley R — Google review
That Agate Beach spot is a really nice beach on the Oregon coast. I think it was low tide when we went, so we had to walk a ways to get to the water. There was tons of sand, like a desert. But when we got to the water, it was so cool and nice. The water was great, cool, and clean. There weren't many people there, probably because of all that sand. They probably just stayed at the dunes.
Tony H — Google review
Lots of sandy hills and saw a glimpse of the beach. The day I went was rainy and cold. Other than that, it is a great area.
Abby B — Google review
Such a beautiful beach! It is a long walk to the surf but worth it. We didn't find any agates but will be back!
Ron A — Google review
Beautiful beach and free. Pros: Cool dunes, looks like a fun place to have a beach fire, shallow water to wade in, soft sand, great view of the lighthouse. Cons: Many dunes to cross at low tide (it's a hike), jellyfish (mid August), little critters in the water either with or feeding on the jelly fish, I think sea lice or sand fleas. Either way, they bite and draw blood (Itty bitty bites). So fun for the view. Not so much for swimming in August.

Hi there! This is a beautiful place to check. There is a trail that connects the beach with the park where you have to walk all the way crossing the rock bridge. The only thing that I didn’t like was that the lighthouse opens on Wednesday so we couldn’t check that part. However the view from that place is stunning!

One of my favorite spots to eat an outdoor breakfast when I'm in Newport. Lots of picnic tables, beautiful views, lighthouse, and usually uncrowded beach, possibly due to all the stairs and long trail to get to it 😁. Perfect for a foggy coastal morning having pastry and chai with your best fur friend

Even while flooded, it was a beautiful area. Amazing views, beautiful forested area and clean crisp air whilst walking along the beach here. Nice open spaces and well defined walking trails throughout. The lighthouse, fishermen memorial and viewpoint here were all fantastic as well.

Coast Park is a delightful destination that has captured the hearts of families, especially with its iconic features. Once home to an exhilarating extra-long tube slide that began on a whimsical pirate ship, it was every child's dream come true. Although this beloved slide is no longer part of the park's offerings, visitors can still enjoy various play structures and climbing equipment. The park boasts ample grassy areas for picnics and plenty of free parking, making it convenient for families looking to spend quality time outdoors.
What an amazing little park! Had a great time with my toddler. Some of the equipment is for old kiddos but there is a tot area too. Love the moving playground parts! Everyone at park was kind and played well together! Cheers! Have a blast!!! Thank you Newport!!!
Jo B — Google review
Fun little park. Was looking forward to the long slide only to find out it's no longer there. 😔😔 But my daughter still had fun.
Kristina S — Google review
This would be an awesome park if the upkeep was there. The slide looks super cool, but it was still boarded up and not open for use. That was a huge disappointment for us. Unfortunately, the play equipment is designed for older kiddos who can do a lot of climbing and balance on the ropes. It's not for those who are mobility limited at all or for toddlers, which is also a huge bummer. Every kid deserves to be able to play regardless of age or ability. The slide could be user friendly if it was open. The shipwreck the slide is connected to is really detailed and cool looking, so there's potential!
Sami W — Google review
The slide is no longer there. Big bummer. The pirate ship is just an empty shell now. There are still playground toys the kids will enjoy though. There is one bathroom, although it was plugged up when we were there. Otherwise it looked to be maintained and cleaned probably once a day. No shade so be aware of that when planning a trip. Plenty of parking and just down the road from Nye Beach.
Kristina N — Google review
My daughter was upset because we came here to see the big slide and she wanna go down the big slide and no slide. They took it down or did they destroy it? I don’t know what they did. It’s not there. They should just remove it from the Google maps instead of calling the big slide they just should call it regular park. I wasn’t happy.
Angelica L — Google review
Bummed the slide was gone. The ship is still fun touch but went there for the coast slide. Playground had some good features for big kids( and bigger adult kids). I hope that the slide does return.
Valerie M — Google review
Nice park, but the slide is no more. The park does have nice spinning toys and a cool ship play structure which used to go so the slide. My son liked climbing the tree.e
Amy S — Google review
Sad the slide is boarded off and closed as of starzjeepcrew visit April 2024. This was a coastal tradition for the slide while in newport. Slide seems in good repair on outside 🤔 pirate ship still fun to play on. Fun playground equipment. Had fun finding all the pirate ships and lighthouses.

Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area is a fascinating location featuring a rocky beach with a collapsed sea cave, tide pools and trails. It is highly recommended to visit during low tide in order to fully access the middle of the bowl. The parking lot provides easy access, however it should be noted that the location isn't accessible from the view point one. While it's a great place to visit, caution should be exercised with timing as well as adhering to signage prohibiting drone usage.
The first time I visited here was on an elementary school field trip. Many years later... it still has the same charm. Chowder at Mo's for lunch makes it a perfect must see view point. Make sure to drive the Otter Crest Loop while you're in the area. Really cool old, single lane for a while, scenic road.
Ed D — Google review
This is a great stop along the Oregon coast, it's really beautiful and a great place to take pictures. Great for kids too. You can go down to the beach and there is a tiny hill that is fun to climb out in the water. The punch bowl area itself is kinda jagged so be careful and wear good shoes, very slippery! All in all, great place to just watch waves and amazing if you go at the right time.
Chioma N — Google review
This is a stop and gaze attraction. Beach side viewing from above on an improved sidewalk. The heavier the weather the better chance of seeing the punchbowl being active. Nature's beauty.
David L — Google review
Short little loop around the rim to gain a view of the bowl itself. There is a small parking lot up the road from where the actual park top is. Restrooms are available near the parking area. There is also a steep stair decline right across from the parking lot that will take you down to the beach....however, this has been closed temporarily for repairs (thank goodness because the wooden stairs were in rough shape).
Ashley R — Google review
It was calm the day we went but ive seen the punch bowl frothing and churning on a high tide. Oregon coast must see. Drop down to cobble beach for an added bit of adventure.

I love bringing my family to the devil’s Punchbowl!! The scenery is absolutely gorgeous and the area is always kept very clean. The restrooms were a little unkept this last time we were there, but usually are very tidy.

Wow, this was such a unique place. Watching the water fill this cave was exciting. You could literally see the water levels rising in real time. We were thinking that this would be a hike, but we got out of the car and walked to the overlook. This was our first time visiting Oregon, and we were fortunate that we got to witness such a place. The photos will never do it justice.

This place is amazing. There is a place where borders gather down by the break. There's lots of space with very few people. It's really beautiful. The walk is a bit long due to the high cliff where you park. Parking is also limited. About 20 spaces in the lot. Overall, it is an amazing place that is beyond beautiful.

Lost Creek State Recreation Site, situated 7 miles south of Newport, Oregon, is a popular spot for picnicking and beach access. It's an ideal location for whale watching and enjoying breathtaking sunsets. The park features five picnic tables along the beach path that visitors can use free of charge. With ample parking, restrooms, and a well-maintained trail to the sandy beach, it offers a pleasant experience for visitors.
A nice park, the trail to the beach is uneven. There is a restroom. Lots of picnic tables. The turn, from the North is hard to see as you are driving. Saw 3 dogs on a Monday afternoon, did not see a dog poop fairy picking up after the dogs. I’ll go there again, it’s a nice walk on the beach, easy to find solitude. Always keep your eyes on the ocean.

This beach seems to have it all. A good amount of parking, bathrooms, picnic tables, easy walk to the beach, and a nice sandy beach. The trail to the beach here is one of the best I've seen, it's pretty flat and it's also paved for the majority of the walk. The beach is all sand, except for where the creek is (at least when I came in July). The creek isn't very big, but if you like rocks the creek is full of really cool stuff if you're willing to look!
