Black River Gorges National Park is the largest and most impressive national park in Mauritius, covering 67.54 square kilometers of lush native forest and rolling hills. The park offers two information centers, picnic areas, and an extensive network of 60 kilometers of hiking trails. It is home to nine endemic bird species and abundant flora and fauna, making it a paradise for nature enthusiasts.
What an incredible place. The scale of the gorge takes your breath away, especially for a small island. The vista is incredible, which also includes waterfalls. There is a path to the large viewing point, and so you don't need to wear boots. There is also a trail to go on. Facilities include carpark, stalls selling drinks and souvenirs, and toilets.

A lovely natural spot. We walked from the Petrin entrance following the Machabees forest loop which took around 2.5hrs. Worth a visit if you have time, but personally we preferred the Tamarind Falls hike where you can swim and enjoy a waterfall massage.
René W — Google review
We love taking walks here. I suggest comfortable shoes with thick soles as often the rocks along the trail are uncovered. Be sure to bring your bug spray and then, enjoy your walk. There's a detailed sign giving directions for your preferred level of difficulty. There are places to have a meal near the visitors center. All-in-all, a great place to spend an afternoon.

Very peaceful place! The little boutiques are cute and very ecologic! The monkeys are cutee and know how to pose for the camera😅😅 The little issues are that the ice cream trucks sells ice cream and cakes at exorbitant prices and this in my opinion should be a controlled one And also bathroom services would be greatly appreciated since this is a big touristy area and usually crowded! Otherwise great view, maintained natural spaces! Recommended 100% Plus point for zero entry fees!
Vaishnavi R — Google review
You have to do the Black River Peak Trail. Maybe not in Summer or Flip Flops. Last part might kill you. But the 360 degree view is something.
Andre W — Google review
Underwhelming. Not many views. Muddy slippery trails. Lake surrounded by biting flies. Some trails closed. Minimal view points. Quite a bit of litter along the trails. Free parking though and plenty of wardens.
Suzy G — Google review
Super cute monkeys and cats running around. View was pretty but unsure if worth the drive. Would recommend if you’re close by
Nicola Z — Google review
I didn’t meet monkeys along the way and it was a short walk to the view point. Part of the way was lined by shops, which made it interesting and lively.

Le Morne Brabant is a historic 1,824-ft. mountain located in Mauritius, offering a challenging yet scenic climb to its sweeping views at the top. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it holds significant cultural and historical importance as it served as a refuge for slaves in the 18th century.
Well marked out but very steep hike. Bring a lot of water, suncream, some snacks, a hat/cap. You'll turn off the main road to a dirt road, drive 1 km and find a parking area. Nothing formal. Then there is a gate. When you walk through you'll find a book on the right side where you need to sign in and out (this is the only way for them to track people hiking safely). Our total hike was close to 8kms. We went to see the look out point that veers off to the right before you reach the steep climbing point which is why it maybe took us longer. The climbing is intense, and as you get to the top it plays on your mind a bit because you go down and then back up before reaching the top. Wear shoes with good grip and take things slowly and carefully! There used to be ropes but these no longer exist. You'll be rewarded with magnificent views as you go up and at the summit, along with lots of cute little birds! The summit is a relatively small area with a cross on the top.
Michelle K — Google review
An unforgettable lifetime experience. A great, breathtaking view from the top, it was worth a hike. My suggestion for the hike: 1. start as early as possible. We started at 6 o’clock in the morning and at 7 o’clock it was almost unbearable hot. It’s a lot of climbing and the stone would get also hotter in the sun. 2. Bring a lot of water with you, at least 1 L/person. 3. I would suggest to hire a guide if you don’t have an experience in climbing. We did often a hike in the alps but I was so afraid that I wouldn’t survive this hike. We were lucky that we accidentally mixed up with the guided group and we could follow them, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to get to the top.
Som M — Google review
Easy part 1 and more challenging part 2. The day we went wad way too crowded. Many climbed to the summit and you could just tell from their face how scared they were to go down w.out the right shoes or equipment. 3 days after we climbed up, we didnt go to the peak as the last climbed was jammed with ppl of all sorts of levels, we heared of the tragic accident of a young man. Just a reminder that climbing this mountain comes with high risk. Please avoid when too crowded on the last bit.
Ntht N — Google review
Le Morne Brabant is an unforgettable hiking experience. The trail up to the top is quite challenging but absolutely rewarding. The scenery is just stunning, with lush greenery and that gorgeous blue ocean stretching out below. As you get closer to the summit, the trail becomes steeper and more rugged, requiring a bit of climbing and focus. Reaching the cross  at the top feels like a true achievement, offering a stunning 360-degree view of Mauritius coastline and surrounding landscape. If you're up for an adventure in Mauritius, this hike is a must.
Shonali S — Google review
Absolutely beautiful 😍 All in all the hike was moderate and the “climbing” part at the end (approximately the last 1k) was ok and not hard, but you have to be careful and concentrated (which should be default mode on any hike anyways). Side note: there was a guy who told us that his family owns the land around the mountain and that it’s not allowed to hike up the mountain before 7am due to “safety reasons”. My suggestion for them is to open the trail before 7am because it’s incredibly hot on the trail (very exposed to the sun) and the earlier you hike up the better. Also there is a huge amount of plastic waste on the trail which is really sad to see.
Lisa M — Google review
Loved this hike! The first half of the hike is easy but the second half involves steep rock climbing using hands and feet, not for the weak. Takes around 2 hours to get to the very top where the cross is. Getting down is faster but still a must to take your time. The views are stunning and well worth the climb.
Tracee U — Google review
The hike to Le Morne Brabant starts off quite easily but becomes extremely challenging towards the end. Nature lovers will appreciate the stunning landscapes and fresh air. However, it's essential to go with a local experienced in hiking this mountain. The trail becomes very steep and you will need to use both hands and feet to navigate the final section. Descending from the rocky summit is best done by sliding down on the rocks to find stable footing. Make sure not to hike alone if you plan to reach the top.
Line-Aure N — Google review
Amazing but difficult / dangerous Nearly half the mountain requires climbing with all four limbs, and the descent is arguably more difficult Don't attempt if you're not 100% comfortable with heights, have above average physical fitness, sun protection and good footwear The risk of slipping on loose rocks. A high risk of someone knocking these rocks from above onto your head, and the risk of the only rescue option being a helicopter It's the best view I've ever seen. However, I wouldn't do it again. And I suspect this can't continue like this without some safety enforcement in the near future You can walk halfway up a steep but stable slope and have a good view. I recommend this

Chamarel Seven Colored Earth Geopark is a unique park featuring sand dunes with seven different colors, created by centuries of lava, decay, and weathering. Visitors can explore the otherworldly landscape and capture stunning photos for their social media feeds. The park also offers the opportunity to visit Chamarel Falls for a view of the powerful spray of water or try abseiling down the cliffs.
The Seven Colored Earths of Mauritius is a wonderful attraction. I really enjoyed it because you can see the different colors of the earth, which is truly stunning. I loved it! It's a large area with many other views to enjoy, so it's not just about the colored earths. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes, like sports clothes, so you can walk around easily. I highly recommend visiting this place.

Unique experience with Waterfall, 7 coloured earth & Turtles. Be prepare to spend MUR650 per person as an entry fees due to private site. Cafe, Souvenir Store is plenty to offer local Rum & other food items as well as crafted artworks by local artists. Definitely worth the visit

The Chamarel Seven Colored Earth Geopark is truly a picturesque and unique natural wonder. The striking layers of vibrant colors are unlike anything I’ve seen before — a perfect spot for photos and to simply take in the beauty of nature. While there isn’t a lot to do beyond enjoying the view and a short walk around the area, it’s absolutely worth visiting for the stunning scenery. A peaceful and memorable stop during our trip to Mauritius!

Nice place.. clean, helpful staff; not so expensive the entry fee. Loved the views and tortoises 🐢 beautiful soil, however earlier this place was even more beautiful! Now, it seems faded a bit. This place is so beautiful! I’ve never seen colours like this before. Some parts are definitely more vibrant than others but that’s nature. Also, the tortoises are awake here and quite active. I found the souvenirs a bit on the expensive side and didn’t get anything. Entrance fee MUR650 which is on the high side.
Jennifer — Google review
This is really a sight to see but don't be shocked if the colour's arnt as apparent as the online pictures(its natural after all!) You get to see Giant Tortoises which it quite fun especially for children and there is a small 'cafe' that does coffees, juices,ice-cream and traditional sugar cane juice! You can do hikes around the park but give yourself atleast the whole day to do that as there are multiple hiking routes.
Gerhard N — Google review
The entry fee is 650 MUR per person, and honestly, it’s not worth it. The waterfall is good, but the Seven Coloured Earth itself is below average. You imagine a large plateau with beautiful, layered shades… but in reality, it’s a very small dune that almost looks like a truck has unloaded coloured soil. There’s also a small pond with tortoises, but nothing impressive. Overall, it’s not worth the money — a sheer waste, especially considering the hype.
Ritu S — Google review
Went with some non-resident friends - the entry fees are expensive for what you get to see at the park! The weather was a bit gloomy maybe why we did not enjoy the views The staffs are lovely in my opinion! They've been very helpful and were very kind! The viewpoints are nice but again for the price, i would not bother to go again The only thing that could save my trip was the Coffee Shop but it is even more expensive for decent-tasting toasts Anyways we had no choice but to munch on a little bit and spend huge amount of money for basic-tasting foods I would recommend for once - as it is part of our history but i believe the park needs to upgrade their services and be more realistic about pricing as well as inteoducing some kind of interactive activities to make the entry fees worth - we understand inflation and costs of maintainance but paying that much for basically 30 mins might be seen as tourists' trap!

Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao, is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site located in the southwest of Mauritius. It is nestled amidst lush mountains and features a picturesque volcanic crater lake. Visitors can explore the area by taking a leisurely stroll around the serene lake while observing animated monkeys. The site is adorned with temples, small shrines, and statues of important Hindu deities.
Nice place for walk around a lake and see Hindu temples and gods. A picturesque crater lake surrounded by temples and shrines - a holy place for Hindus and the destination of their annual pilgrimages.

It is very interesting to visit Grand Bassin in Mauritius, which is one of the amazing attractions to see the Hindu Temple and the beautiful lake.

Biggest Hindu temple in Mauritius....Nice place to spend for half a day....enough parking space....no entry fees...
Deepanjan M — Google review
The Shiv temple in Mauritius with a big statue of Lord Shiva is located at Ganga Talao, also known as Grand Bassin. The statue itself is called Mangal Mahadev. It's a 33-meter (108-foot) tall statue of Lord Shiva, a replica of the Shiva statue in Sursagar Lake in Vadodara, Gujarat, India. This sacred site is a major pilgrimage destination for Mauritian Hindus, especially during the festival of Maha Shivratri.
Amit B — Google review
It's an interesting place, but everything is quite old here, and when we visited there was a large construction site and it was quite loud. There is not a lot information provided so you can just go for a walk. Walking up to the peek is nice and you have a nice view from up there.
Cynthia H — Google review
A hindu spiritual place to visit around south of Mauritius. The overall place is well developed and has a lot to be seen.
Nikhil P — Google review
We visited Grand Bassin (Ganga Talao) on Oct 01 in the first half, and it was a truly divine experience 🙏. The place is home to the magnificent Shiv Temple and the towering Mangal Mahadev statue — a 33-meter (108-foot) tall replica of the Lord Shiva statue from Sursagar Lake, Vadodara 🇮🇳. The serene lake surrounded by lush green hills adds to the spiritual atmosphere 🌿💧. It’s one of the most sacred sites for Hindus in Mauritius, especially vibrant during Maha Shivratri when devotees from across the island visit here 🚶‍♀️🕉️. A must-visit place for peace, devotion, and beautiful views of nature combined with spirituality ❤️🕉️🌺.
Shashank A — Google review
Impressive site, especially if you want to experience the culture of the island. The entrance is watched by two massive statues of Lord Shiva and Lord Durga. Further into the site, you'll find additional statues and a temple next to a pretty lake. One piece of advice, please don't do the typical tourist things...show respect as this is a religious site.

Botanical garden
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, also known as Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, is an 18th-century garden in Mauritius with over 500 plant species. Originally established as a vegetable garden in 1735, it has expanded to become a vast showcase of tropical vegetation. The highlights include giant Victoria amazonica water lilies and soulful giant tortoises.
We spent 2 hours at the park and covered most things. A variety of beautiful flowers, plants and trees. Map of the gardens is clear and easy to follow. There are some deers and tortoise as well. Worth visiting and it is free.
Cassie ( — Google review
We spent a good 3 hrs in the park. Entrance fee was reasonable. We had a free map at the ticket office which was useful as the park is quite large and we don’t wanted to miss anything. We enjoyed everything what we seen. Some of the ponds were drained, out of use unfortunately. Also the water plant fountain was empty as well just an alga filled mess. Turtles have quite large enclosure and it seems they are happy there. Deers have a similarly sized enclosure but in my opinion is not well planned. The animals do not have natural shade and all of them were cramped together under the feeding spot trying to hide from the sun. The highlight if our visit were the water lilies in full bloom. And the hut on the largest pond. Also the two large bridge in the valley area. The medicine garden was interesting but many of the plants were missing and not replaced. Considering that this was a botanic garden there were no flowers or shrubs or other plants than different palm species and trees. But I think it still wort a visit. Take water with you because it is still warm even when it is a bit cloudy. In the carpark you can buy refreshment but not in the park. Also you can buy souvenirs in the carpark. We also visited the nearby sugar museum. Thats was nice too and finished our day in the shopping centre next to the museum. Whole day was great. ❤️
Gyongyver R — Google review
Best botanical garden I’ve ever been. There’s so much to see, the ticket price was reasonable. There were tour guides at the entrance, although we decided to go on our own. The map is quite straight-forward as all "roads" are labeled. Take your time, 2-3 hours should be enough.
Daniella T — Google review
SSR Botanical Garden is a calm and beautiful place to visit. The garden has many trees, flowers, and the famous giant water lilies. You can also see animals like deer, turtles, fish, and birds. It is a great place to walk, relax, and enjoy nature with family. A very peaceful and refreshing spot!
Djameel H — Google review
Very nice garden. Very informative and entertaining guided tours through the park. For the guide we paid 75 MUR per person in 2025. Not expensive. Downside is the very small area for the turtles.
Volker K — Google review
Honestly, the garden was a disappointment. The place is not well maintained, and there is hardly anything to see despite how beautiful the photos look online or how well pictures come out. The entry fee feels like a waste of money, as the overall experience doesn’t match the expectations. Photos may look good, but in reality, there is nothing much there. Wouldn’t recommend it.
Ritu S — Google review
Visited the oldest garden in southern hemisphere! Also, one of the most biodiverse places in the region with about 1,000 plant species. The entrance fee is MUR300 and it takes about an hour to cover the grounds at a comfortable pace.
Jennifer — Google review
What a fantastic return to the SSR Botanical Garden after being away for over a decade! Experiencing this lush greenery again was a perfect welcome back to Mauritius. The garden is truly a wonderful place to visit, offering a serene and beautiful environment ideal for exercise and reconnecting with nature. I highly recommend it for a Sunday morning jog—the quiet atmosphere early in the day makes for a very relaxing and refreshing run amidst the exotic trees and flora. A note for fellow Mauritians: Entry is FREE for citizens on Sundays and Public Holidays, which is a brilliant initiative and a great way to start the weekend. While the garden is generally kept clean, there is definitely room for improvement in some areas. A bit more attention to maintenance would elevate the experience even further. Overall, it's a lovely way to enjoy nature, get some exercise, and appreciate the stunning biodiversity of the island. Definitely worth the visit!

Central Market, located in Port Louis near Chinatown, is a vibrant and bustling traditional market offering a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, souvenirs, Chinese herbal medicines, and aphrodisiacs. The market was established in 1839 during the Victorian era and remains a popular shopping destination for locals. Visitors can immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere as they explore the colorful stalls and interact with enthusiastic stallholders.
A vibrant spot to soak in local life, the Port Louis Central Market is a must-visit when in the capital. On the ground floor, you’ll find a colorful, bustling space where locals buy their daily fruits, vegetables, and herbs — a great place to observe the rhythm of Mauritian everyday life. Head up to the second level for clothes, textiles, and a wide selection of souvenirs. Wearing your “tourist lens,” the market is both fun and eye-opening. It’s not just a place to shop, but a way to experience the heart of the city — loud, lively, and full of character.
Wei L — Google review
Overpriced market but still nice to experience and to visit. Port Louis is the home of the largest market, where you can find fresh food items, local dishes, and various handcrafted goods that are useful to locals and serve as souvenirs for tourists. It is always crowded, even during weekdays, as many locals working in Port Louis stop by for a cheap snack. You can find fresh meat, poultry, fish and seafood, as well as veggies, fruits and spices. You can also buy many handcrafted souvenirs and gifts, but keep in mind you must bargain all the time. It's also one of the best places for local street food.
Ntht N — Google review
If you want to enjoy the atmosphere of a classic market, you've come to the right place. You'll find fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, and you'll definitely get a good price for your holiday souvenirs. And even shopaholics will find something to their liking here.
Zaneta S — Google review
This was my first time visiting this part of Port Louis, and this market truly surprised me. You can buy groceries, meat, vegetables, souvenirs, or dresses. This market meets all your needs. Some parts of the market are ♿wheelchair accessible, while some areas have steps that can create difficulty for wheelchair users. The first floor has many souvenirs available at good prices. There is also a souvenirs market right in front of this place where you can buy T shirts, fridge magnets, caps, and many other items. I liked the vegetables and fruit market the most because I saw all the fruits and vegetables extremely fresh and of good quality. If you are in Mauritius 🇲🇺, you should definitely visit this market.
Kashif M — Google review
Worth a visit to experience and good variety. Fruit, veg, clothes, food hall, souvenir tat. Winds down from about 4pm. Easy parking across the road by the sea, but can be busy traffic to get there. Be sure to get some alouda and rotis. Also interesting around the bus station
Duncan A — Google review
Quite interesting, but really not much different from other large markets. You get the feeling you're being ripped off everywhere. Souvenirs are sometimes offered here for two to three times the price of other sales locations, for example, in Gorges National Park (Gorges Viewpoint) or near Cristal Rock. Additionally it is loud and dirty...but still, if you want to see Port Louis and it is on your way. Do a quick stop and have a view.

Île aux Cerfs is an offshore island located off the east coast of Mauritius, known for its stunning white-sand beaches and turquoise lagoons. It offers a range of activities including boating, water sports, and a renowned 18-hole golf course designed by Bernhard Langer. The island is a popular excursion destination with various water sports activities available such as parasailing, underwater sea walk, speed boat rides, and tube rides.
An absolute paradise! Île aux Cerfs is a must-visit when in Mauritius. The boat trip over is stunning, offering beautiful views of the turquoise lagoon. Once on the island, you're greeted with pristine white sand beaches and crystal-clear water perfect for swimming and snorkeling. There are plenty of water sports activities available, from parasailing to banana boat rides, so there's something for everyone. You can also relax and simply soak up the sun. The food stalls and restaurants offer delicious local cuisine. While it can get a bit crowded, especially in the afternoon, the beauty of the island makes it completely worth it. Highly recommend spending at least half a day here to fully enjoy all it has to offer!

Scenic Ride, Average Beach The catamaran journey was the highlight. It was relaxing, scenic, and absolutely worth it. The waterfall stop was nice, though brief. Once we reached Île aux Cerfs, the beach was a bit underwhelming with quite a bit of seaweed. We relaxed for a while before heading back on the catamaran, which made up for the beach. Go for the ride, not the destination.
Sriharsha T — Google review
The island is beautiful and peaceful, perfect for relaxing on the beach. It offers several water activities, which are great fun. The waterfall is stunning. We went on a catamaran with a smaller group of people — a relaxing one-day excursion.

We visited Île aux Cerfs on Sep 28 after enjoying exciting water activities at Belle Mare Beach in the first half of the day 🏄‍♂️🚤. The island is truly breathtakingly beautiful with crystal-clear blue waters, soft sandy beaches, and lush greenery all around 🌺🌴. We had a delicious lunch at one of the beachside restaurants where we ordered veg pizzas, French fries, and refreshing drinks 🍕🍟🥤—everything was tasty and perfectly complemented the beach vibes! After lunch, we clicked lovely photos at several scenic spots 📸😍. Later, we took a speed boat ride to visit the nearby waterfall, which was another amazing experience 💦🚤. Overall, a memorable and must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Mauritius — ideal for families, couples, and adventure lovers alike! ❤️🇲🇺

If you ever been to Greece or Italy you will not be impressed by the island. It's an average beach. The toilets are not kept in a good condition and on our return boat the max number of people allowed should have been 18, but they took 25. Also, there are stray dogs. I really don't recommend coming here. It's not an exceptional experience as they want to sell it.
Eliza U — Google review
White sandy beaches, the most friendly people. Two things that were off putting: the bathrooms are not ideal. On the entire island, those ablution facilities were the only ones that were not kept neat and clean. The second negative is that there aren't spaces to just relax for free. It is exorbitant to rent a lounger for even the shortest period. A must-see though. The boat ride is good and a number of activities available at the mini -island though. Picture perfect views.

Nice place to visit, An offshore island with white beaches, boats, water sports, restaurants and a golf course. Many catamarans trips come here between 11-16 so can be many people around. But is very lovely place.

This island is a part of the 5 islands tour offered by the boat operators. There is nothing very special about this island. All the water activities are costlier than the other places. If you visit this island take your own food & beach mat to enjoy the time.

Trou aux Biches Beach is a picturesque coastal spot located in the north of Mauritius. This former fishing village boasts a one-mile stretch of stunning silver-tinged sand, making it one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The beach is known for its clear turquoise waters, perfect for snorkeling and various water sports such as water skiing, scuba diving, and parasailing.
Simply the best beach on the island. Clear crystal waters, great for snorkelling and swimming, plus a superb white sand beach which goes on for miles. There are toilets and a few restaurants dotted about, as well as a supermarket in walking distance. Its only slight downfall is the lack of parking.
Monty M — Google review
Free parking with access to the beach , along with shower and toilet facilities . Lots of parking , not aware of any security issues , and feels very safe . Access to the sea is simple and safe , be aware of the power boats , local fisherman and tourist cruisers - when swimming alway be aware of your surroundings ( speeds of these boats leaves no room for error if they do not see you ).

Beautiful beach with public access. Each beach seems to have a care taker that looks after the toilets and beach area making it very clean. Good car parking area.

Favourite snorkel spot, right down the south end (park opposite dive spirit or near popo supermarket). Good variety just off shore, no boat trips necessary. You can swim to where they go in 2 mins. Crowded in the central part of the beach near car park. Wear water shoes and it's chilly in August

The best beach I've ever been on. White sand, crystal clear water and perfect at sunset.

Trou aux Biches is a paradise in every sense of the word. Beyond the beauty of the setting, what made our stay unforgettable was the extraordinary service and care from the staff and management team. Every interaction was filled with a warmth and attentiveness that surpassed our expectations. Special thanks to Rambo at the beach bar, who spoiled us with such warmth and generosity. He made every moment by the beach even more special. Our butler Ibrahim went above and beyond to make us feel at home; his attention to detail and kindness truly elevated our stay. The management team made us feel like valued guests at every step, treating us with such attentiveness and care that we left feeling completely spoiled and cherished. The food was superb, the hospitality unmatched and the memories we made at Trou aux Biches will stay with us forever. This was an experience we will never forget, and we cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

We've been here off season (July) and whilst not staying at the resort. We walked a bit to the north and sat in front of the resort. The sand was lovely, the beach was great, it was quiet. If you're looking for a quiet beach day and don't need amenities, a great way to avoid a crowd

Waterfalls
Chamarel Waterfall is a must-see attraction in Mauritius, known for its picturesque 272-ft. cascading waters. It is the highest waterfall on the island and draws visitors with its spectacular beauty, making it a popular spot for Instagrammers. The falls originate from three streams of the River Saint-Denis and are estimated to be millions of years old, flowing over ancient lava rocks that date back around 810 million years.
Breathtaking View Surrounded by Lush Greenery Chamarel Waterfall is an absolute gem and a must-see when visiting the area. The view from the main viewpoint is stunning — the waterfall plunges dramatically into a forested gorge, surrounded by rich, tropical greenery that makes the whole scene look like something out of a postcard. The sound of the water and the fresh air make it a refreshing and peaceful stop. It’s a great spot for nature lovers and photographers alike. Whether you're visiting as part of the Seven Coloured Earths experience or just passing through Chamarel, this waterfall is definitely worth the stop!
Anujay S — Google review
Visiting Chamarel Waterfall was truly one of the highlights of my trip to Mauritius. Tucked away in the lush southwestern part of the island, this stunning waterfall is a breathtaking sight that perfectly captures the natural beauty of Mauritius. At around 100 meters tall, it's the tallest single-drop waterfall in the country, and the view from the main observation deck is simply unforgettable. Surrounded by tropical greenery and dramatic cliffs, the waterfall cascades with such elegance and power that you can't help but feel a sense of awe. The sound of the rushing water combined with the fresh, earthy scent of the forest makes the whole experience incredibly peaceful and rejuvenating. One of the best parts of the visit was how well-maintained the area is. The viewing platforms offer fantastic photo opportunities, and the path is easy to navigate, making it accessible for visitors of all ages. There is free parking available right near the viewpoint, making access hassle-free. After taking in the stunning scenery, you can also relax at nearby coffee shops and eateries just a short drive away, perfect for resting and enjoying some local flavors. In addition, near the waterfall, you can visit the tortoise nest and enclosure, where you’ll get a chance to see these gentle giants up close a unique and charming addition to your visit. If you're already exploring the nearby Seven Colored Earths, this is just a short walk or drive away and absolutely worth it. Whether you're a nature lover, a photographer, or simply looking for a serene escape, Chamarel Waterfall is a place that will leave a lasting impression. I highly recommend adding it to your Mauritius itinerary it's a natural gem not to be missed!
Samo — Google review
Chamarel Waterfalls in Mauritius is often cited as the island's highest single-drop waterfall, plunging approximately 100 meters (around 300 feet). Its sheer drop is comparable to the height of the Statue of Liberty, making it a truly awe-inspiring sight. The waterfall is set amidst lush, green tropical forests and dramatic rocky canyons, creating a picturesque backdrop. It originates from the River Saint-Denis, fed by three distinct streams. There are easily accessible viewing platforms offering fantastic perspectives of the cascading water and the surrounding landscape. Some prefer the higher viewpoint for a full panorama. The falls are often most impressive during the wetter months (May to December) when the flow is at its peak. In drier periods, the water might split into multiple streams. The waterfall is located within the Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark, so a visit often combines seeing both natural wonders. An entry fee covers access to both. Crowds:As a popular attraction, it can get crowded, especially during peak tourist season. Mosquitoes: It's advisable to bring mosquito repellent due to the lush surroundings. In short, Chamarel Waterfalls is a must-see in Mauritius, offering breathtaking views of a powerful and tall waterfall in a beautiful natural setting, often combined with a visit to the unique Seven Coloured Earth. There is an Entry fee of 800 MUR per Person. There is ample car parking available

Caudan Waterfront is more than just a shopping destination; it's a lively entertainment hub suitable for families. The complex offers various activities perfect for children, including a cinema showing family-friendly films and diverse casual eateries catering to all tastes. Live performances and art installations in the open areas add to the vibrant atmosphere enjoyed by visitors of all ages.
Vibrant Spot with Beautiful Views and Great Shopping! Caudan Waterfront in Port Louis is definitely one of the must-visit spots in Mauritius. The location is stunning — right on the water with lovely views of the harbor and mountains. It has a great mix of local boutiques, international brands, restaurants, and a lively atmosphere. The craft market and souvenir shops are perfect for picking up gifts or local handmade items. I especially enjoyed the open-air vibe and the street performances that give the area a fun, cultural touch. The food court and cafes offer a decent variety, though prices are slightly on the higher side. Parking is available but can be a bit crowded during weekends or holidays. Overall, it's a fantastic place to shop, eat, and relax by the water. A bit more local cultural representation and better maintenance in certain areas would make it a 5-star destination.

The most vibrant and happening place in Port Louis. The entire area is filled with hustle and bustle. Ample eatery options. For cheaper food options you can visit the nearby central market. There are paid parking facilities as well.

This is a very beautiful place where you can enjoy a calm and relaxing evening. The clear water, the ships standing in the harbor, and the buildings around it make the view even more attractive. Le Caudan Waterfront is one of the most popular commercial spots in Port Louis. You get shopping, banks, restaurants, a cinema, a casino and a marina in one place. There is also a five star hotel. It was the first shopping mall in Mauritius, and it still stays popular because of its modern style. You also find a bronze statue of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam here. Nearby at Place Mahe de Labourdonnais there is a statue of Governor Mahe de Labourdonnais, which is part of the same complex. I spent great time here with my friend. After that we walked to the beautiful street decorated with colorful ☔ umbrellas, which created a very charming scene. The best part for me was the good ♿🧑🏼‍🦯👩🏼‍🦯accessibility. Wheelchair users and other differently abled persons can move around this area with ease.

Nestled at the picturesque Caudan Waterfront, the Blue Penny Museum is a delightful gem that showcases the rich cultural heritage of Mauritius. Housed in a historic building that once served as the headquarters for the New Mauritius Docks Company, this charming museum offers visitors an engaging journey through time. It features an impressive collection of stamps and coins, including one of only four pristine copies of the iconic 1847 two-pence indigo blue stamp—an absolute must-see for philatelists!
History of Mauritius and their famous stamps. Blue and Red Penny. You can see the originals which were bought back to Mauritius in 1993, but only few minutes every hour (the light turns on), not to destroy the stamps. It is only about "Post Office" versus "Post Paid" :-)

Must see if you are in Port Louis. Small but very nice museum about history of Mauritius. There is also the famous stamps Blue Penny and Red Penny. These stamps are lit for 10 minutes every hour. Very interesting things about post history. Highly recommend if you are in Mauricius.

Take the time to go around at least twice as you'll miss things worth seeing on the first circuit. The Malcolm de Chazal exhibition was worth seeing if you like that sort of thing and included in the entrance fee. Not really my taste.

Very beautiful location with a lot of history showcased. Lots of art and history about Mauritius 🇲🇺 Definitely learnt a lot about Mauritius and it’s history. The arts works are very impress and you will really appreciate it if you are into art 🖼️ There’s also postage stamps on display with loads of information about the Mauritius postal system. Lots of fantastic sculptures to admire as well. You aren’t allowed to take photos so please be aware of this. It’s open from Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays/public holidays. Try to plan your visit for the early part of the day. Entrance is about Rs245 as a tourist.

Great museum to visit even if you are not a stamps guy. Beside the world famous blue and red Mauritius stamp you can visit a nice exhibition on the history of Mauritius. Keep in mind, that the blue Mauritius stamp is only visible for 5 minutes per hour because of conservative reasons. At our visit it was from xx:20 pm to xx:25 pm
Felix B — Google review
Review: Visit one of the last stamps of the Blue penny and seed penny. What makes it so special? The misprint in 1847 includes Post Office on the stamps and was soon changed to Post Paid. For conservation, the originals are illuminated only temporarily. So make sure to inquire about the time, when the stamps are illuminated. Parking: non-free parking slot of the waterfront shopping mall

Aapravasi Ghat is a captivating destination that offers visitors a truly remarkable experience. The site boasts stunning natural beauty and an array of fascinating attractions to explore.
Really well done exhibit to accompany the heritage site. It tells the story of the "great experiment" to use indentured labour after slavery was abolished and the conditions that these labours worked under. Would recommend anyone to visit for an hour, but especially Mauritians. Plus, it's free entry.

Significant, place to learn about Mauritius & how culture has been shaped due to Slavery in the past. Lots of details photographs & historical articles that anyone can take a look. Located on the bay of Trou Fanfaron, in the capital of Port-Louis, the Aapravasi Ghat is the remains of an immigration depot, the site from where modern indentured labour Diaspora emerged.

A quiet place for reflection and pondering upon history and our ancestors who came so far in search of work on the sugarcane fields, a unesco world heritage site - it’s maintained very well
Dipanjan R — Google review
Aapravasi Ghat is seriously something else. It is like stepping back in time to this place where so many people, about half a million, first arrived as indentured laborers. It is fascinating to think that this one spot in Mauritius was the first for the British, and that it totally changed the country. Even though you only see parts of the old buildings, you can just feel the history there. If you are in Mauritius, you absolutely have to go there.
Ranjan B — Google review
It's world heritage site at Port Luis in Mauritius. It's in the memory of people taken for the agricultural work from many countries by britishers, wherever they were ruling in early 1800. These workers are responsible for today's prosperous country due to their hard work. Today 4th/ 5th generation of them are well educated, prominent citizens reaching to the posts of even Prime Minister. This memorial is good efforts to show their sacrifices and leading a hard life.
Ashokkumar P — Google review
This place is a must-visit for anyone, tourists or locals alike, as it holds deep historical significance for Mauritius. There’s no entrance fee, and you learn so much about the immigrants from India and other parts of Asia who came to this island. However, it’s important to understand that the so-called “free” or “indentured” labor wasn’t what it seemed. Migrants were brought here under false promises and endured harsh working conditions. The museum also highlights the hero who played a pivotal role in addressing these injustices. It’s an emotional experience, I had tears in my eyes by the end of the tour.
Paulomi R — Google review
Very well maintained museum. One can understand the history of the place and also good old stuff to view there.

Visited Casela Nature Parks and had an unforgettable day filled with amazing wildlife experiences. We did the Lion Cubs Interaction and Cheetah Interaction, both of which were incredible opportunities to get up close with these majestic animals under expert supervision. The Big Cats Safari was thrilling, letting us see lions, tigers, and cheetahs roaming in large, open spaces. The African Safari was equally enjoyable, with zebras, giraffes, antelopes, and ostriches in a natural-like setting. The park is well-maintained, organized, and offers a mix of adventure, learning, and nature. There are various rides through the area with zebras and giraffes. The animals seem well cared for. It feels very safe, especially in the predator section. The staff are very dedicated to visitors’ safety. One of the most beautiful days on the island.

We visited Casela Nature Park on Oct 02 and had a wonderful family experience 🌿🐾. The park is huge and offers a mix of adventure and wildlife. We saw a wide variety of birds 🦜, and the kids had a great time enjoying the dry rides 🎢. The highlight was spotting cheetahs 🐆 and lions 🦁, and the jungle safari 🚙 where we saw deers 🦌, zebras 🦓, and ostriches 🐦 was truly memorable. We had lunch at Wam Wam Restaurant around 2 PM 🍴. The food was nice, but there were many cocks, hens, and sparrows 🐓🐥 flocking around our table, which made our kids a little frightened while eating. We left around 3:30 PM, feeling happy overall, though we noticed that some activities were closed on Thursday ❌ which was a bit disappointing. Overall, Casela is a must-visit in Mauritius for families and kids — a great mix of wildlife, rides, and adventure 🌍✨.

Nestled in the heart of a lush tropical forest, La Vanille Nature Park is a captivating destination that spans approximately 5 hectares near Riviere des Anguilles in southern Mauritius. Established in 1985, this enchanting park is home to an impressive variety of wildlife, including giant tortoises, iguanas, deer, and wild pigs.
We visited La Vanille Nature Park as a family and had a wonderful time! Here’s a quick breakdown of our experience: ✅ Welcoming Personnel – The staff were warm, friendly, and always ready to assist. ✅ Spacious Parking – Plenty of space, easy access, and well-organized. ✅ Animal Encounters – Amazing to see crocodiles, alligators, monkeys, and many more fascinating creatures up close. ✅ Family-Friendly Experience – Safe, enjoyable, and educational for both kids and adults. ✅ Affordable Entry – Very reasonable price compared to some other park with ridiculously high fees. ✅ Delicious Food – We tried three different meals at the restaurant, and they were all fresh and tasty. ❌ Road Condition – The road leading to the park could definitely be improved for a smoother drive. 🌿 A must-visit place if you’re looking for a fun, educational, and memorable outing with your family in Mauritius.

A fantastic, family-friendly outing at La Vanille! Getting to the park was straightforward—Google Maps was accurate and led us right to the entrance. Parking was ample, which made for an easy start. Although we had booked tickets in advance, the queue at the entrance was thankfully short. The main draws are definitely the reptiles! The crocodiles are impressive, and the Galápagos Giant Tortoises are truly the stars of the show. La Vanille seems to have the largest population of these magnificent tortoises in Mauritius, and it's amazing to see so many in one place. Be sure to catch the thrilling Crocodile Feeding Show (held at 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM). It's a highlight! For those interested in a unique souvenir, you can pay a small additional fee to take a photo with a baby tortoise or even a young crocodile and a domesticated Iguana. Other attractions include a fascinating Insectorium and various enclosures for deer, iguanas, and more. We took a casual stroll through the park and spent about 1.5 to 2 hours, though you could easily spend more time if you explore every exhibit thoroughly. Overall, it's a great outing, especially for families with children. Highly recommended!

Very nice place to visit. Park is mainly with crocodiles and tortoises + few more species. It is small place, but very educative. Restaurant was great. We did baby crocodille feeding, which means 3 pieces of meat per person to feed a club of baby dinosaurs. Feeding tortoises was the best, they have so many of them! It was just great.

This is definitely a total underrated highlight of the complete island Mauritius ! This great animal park contains a wide spectrum of different animals, but the absolute highlights are the crocodiles and the giant turtles. Especially the big feeding area, in which every visitor is able to feed the giant turtles with leaves you can buy at the park, is definitely a highlight for big and small people. I have to add, that the feeding show of the crocodiles it’s also a visit worth, it takes place at 11:30 and also another time in the afternoon. We have visited many zoos in our lives, but the crocodile section and the giant Turtles were a unique experience for all of us. Also, very positive with the fact, that they were not as many visitors as in other parks of equal size. We own three travel guides for the wonderful island in Mauritius, but this park mentioned only in one of them.. So a wonderful gem for every animal lover! We recommend this animal park with an underlined 5 star rating 😍

We also have some whale bones and skulls. And the owner deer looks old now, seen him again (2025/08) after 10 years! The animals featured unfortunately have not changed or improved for many years! The maintenance costs could be high but I believe a lot could have been done to improve the visitors experience or even to expand the park. Watching crocodiles being fed, feeding giant turtles and for kids to hold baby crocodiles is an amazing feat!

5 stars for turtles , there is a lot od them there, so cute and adorable. Perfect spot for great pictures, the rest of park resemble a little zoo, nice beautiful trees and Bamboo forest

This was the best park during our trip in Mauritius. Feeding the turtles was extremely satisfying and the gators were interesting. This felt like the most value we got especially with the resident price for some of us (which some parks are unfortunately removing)

Trou aux Cerfs, located in the town of Curepipe in central Mauritius, is an extinct volcanic crater surrounded by lush vegetation. The approximately 300-meter crater features a small lake and offers panoramic views over the surrounding mountains to the south and west coast. It is a popular spot for joggers and walkers, with benches along the rim for resting and reflecting.
Great spot for jogging or letting your kids ride their scooters. The road is paved, and offers stunning views of the volcano and surrounding nature. Ideal if you're looking for some fresh air. Free parking and toilets available.

nice place. on the site of the volcano crater there is a small lake, everything around is overgrown with grass. You can’t go down, you can only look from above. You can take a walk around the crater. There are wild monkeys in the area and they might bite you. admission is free, parking available

We visited Trou aux Cerfs on Oct 01 after exploring Ganga Talao, and it was a refreshing stop! This is a volcanic crater with a small lake in the middle, and the road goes all the way up, making it super convenient to drive right to the top 🚗✨ From the crater’s edge, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding areas 🏞️ and feel the cool mountain breeze blowing constantly 🌬️🌺 — such a peaceful and rejuvenating experience! Majority of the crater is lush with green trees, adding to its natural charm 🌳🌿 A quick yet must-visit scenic spot in Mauritius — perfect for nature lovers and photographers 📸💚

Place has been properly preserved. Fitness machines available for all ages. Crater of dormant volcano can be seen through some angles. Has a considerable amount of benches and toilet is paid but clean. View of buildings (horizon) is impressive and recommended for amateurs of photography. Entire crater could be seen using a Quadcopter. Parking is limited but available though.

Well preserved natural attraction, worth visiting, its both an attraction or sport area, perfect place to perform physical activities such as: Jogging, fruits such as goyave de chine can be gather freshly from trees

This is a volcanic crater with a lake in the middle. The road has been built right till the top, so one can directly drive to the crater and enjoy the scenary from the mountain top. Couple of best things to enjoy here are the scenic views of the surroundings and the cool breeze/wind at the top. Majority of the crater is filled with trees but the lake in the middle is good to look at.

La Vallée Des Couleurs Nature Park is a breathtaking destination known for its stunning landscape featuring 23 different colors. Visitors can explore the park's trails and encounter diverse wildlife while also enjoying exhilarating activities such as zip-lining. The park offers an unforgettable experience, allowing guests to witness the legendary Seven Coloured Earth and embark on the third-longest zipline in the world, spanning an impressive 1.5 kilometers.
As a couple, we had a fantastic time at Vallée des Couleurs! The location is stunning, with plenty of fun and adventurous activities nestled in the hills, making it a memorable experience. Highly recommend trying the quad biking, the Nepalese bridge, and especially the Signature Zipline — an exhilarating 1.5 km ride! The unique 23-Coloured Earth is fascinating, with its naturally colorful sand formations. It’s also family-friendly, with a garden area where kids can interact with a few animals. A great place to enjoy nature, adventure, and some peaceful moments. Definitely worth a visit!

The best part of this park for me is that they have animals freely roaming around, like chickens and deers! That is so cool!!! This park also has giant tortoises, and you can come very close and touch them 😁 apart from that, the park will be interesting only for thrill seekers and people who like adrenaline adventures and extreme sports (which is not my piece of cake, but the experience still was great)

We spent a lovely day at Vallée in Mauritius — a perfect outing for families! We were two adults and three kids, and everyone had a great time. Bruto welcomed us warmly and guided us with kindness and patience, which really made the experience even better. Entry was free for our two little ones under 5, and the main kids’ activity was included in the ticket. Other activities cost Rs200 per child, which was fair. The zip lines looked amazing and definitely something we’d like to try next time! We skipped those and the quad bikes this time since there’s a height restriction for kids. We had lunch at the on-site restaurant overlooking a beautiful waterfall — such a peaceful spot. The kids’ menu was Rs600 but came with generous portions, and the adult burgers started from Rs925 — tasty and filling. Overall, it was a wonderful family day out. Beautiful nature, friendly staff, Highly recommended for families looking for a fun and relaxing day in nature!

We had an amazing experience visiting Valle in Mauritius. The place is absolutely stunning and perfect for families. A special thanks to Ajmal, who made our trip unforgettable. He took so many beautiful photos of us and gave us a wonderful tour in a 4x4 car, which was perfect since we were traveling with small children. During the tour, we got to see the waterfall, the famous 21 Colored Earth, and the breathtaking panoramic viewpoint at the top of the mountain. There is also a lovely café at the top where you can relax and enjoy the view. Overall, it was an incredible experience and we highly recommend visiting Valle — especially with Ajmal as your guide!

My daughter and I were visiting Mauritius for a wedding and had limited time to do sightseeing and exploring the island. We decided to do a one day tour that included the park and we are so happy that it did! It was definitely one of the most memorable parts of our stay and we only wished we had more time to spend there. The Nepalese bridge was amazing, but it was slightly eclipsed by the amazing hospitality shown to us by Dylan. He truly had an extraordinary amount of energy and charisma that we hope to experience again if we have the opportunity to return. Thanks so much for the lifelong memories!

🌿 Google Review – Valley Adventure Park, Mauritius 🌿 We visited Valley Adventure Park on Oct 01 afternoon after exploring Ganga Talao and Trou aux Cerfs, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience! 😊 We started with lunch at the park’s restaurant — ordered 2 couple veg plates and 1 single veg plate. The quantity was generous, food tasted good, and even our kids enjoyed their meal 🍛👨‍👩‍👧‍👦. After lunch, we clicked some lovely pictures with the giant tortoise 🐢 roaming freely in one section — such a unique experience! Then we tried a few adventure activities — the lunge cart was okay, but the 350m Nepalese bridge walk with a harness was truly thrilling and fun for everyone 🌉💪. Post activities, we wandered around the park, took pics near the waterfall 💦 and the beautiful 23 Colors Land area 🌈. Kids also enjoyed the play area, while we admired peacocks, a deer calf, hens, cocks, and ducks roaming around 🦚🦆🦌. The green valley views were refreshing, and the cool breeze added to the charm 🌳🍃. Overall, a great spot for family fun, nature photography, and light adventure in Mauritius! 🇲🇺✨

Nestled on the southeast coast of Mauritius, Blue Bay Marine Park is a stunning marine reserve that invites adventurers to dive into its vibrant underwater world. With its crystal-clear waters and flourishing coral gardens, this park is home to an impressive variety of marine life, including colorful fish and graceful sea turtles. Visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of the ocean through activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, or taking a scenic glass-bottom boat ride.
A stunning beach with incredible azure waters, but sadly, most of the corals are dead or sick due to pollution and global warming. We snorkeled and saw a variety of fish, but it was heartbreaking to see their shelters, once vibrant corals, now lifeless. Despite this, the beach and bay remain breathtakingly beautiful.
Paulomi R — Google review
Blue Bay Marine Park, located on the southeast coast, is a renowned snorkeling and diving spot with crystal-clear turquoise waters** and a vibrant underwater ecosystem. Declared a national park in 1997, it spans 353 hectares, protecting diverse marine life and coral gardens. Excellent Snorkeling: The shallow lagoon (1-5 meters deep) is perfect for all levels, revealing colorful corals (over 50 species) and numerous fish species. Expect to see parrotfish, butterflyfish, and possibly sea turtles. Boat tours often access prime snorkeling spots. Glass-Bottom Boat Tours:A popular way to view the underwater wonders without getting wet, ideal for families. Scuba Diving: Offers a more immersive experience with various dive sites for different skill levels, showcasing diverse marine life and coral formations. Ancient Coral:Home to some of the oldest and largest brain corals in Mauritius, some estimated to be over 1000 years old. Biodiversity:The park also supports mangroves, seagrasses, and algae, contributing to a rich marine habitat. Accessibility: Easily reached by car or bus from Mahebourg and the airport. Boat tours depart from Blue Bay beach. In short, Blue Bay Marine Park is a must-visit for marine enthusiasts in Mauritius, offering exceptional snorkeling and diving in a protected and beautiful environment.

Crystal Clear Waters & Magical Marine Life! Blue Bay Marine Park is an absolute paradise for nature lovers and families! The glass-bottom boat ride and snorkeling were the perfect way to explore the vibrant coral reefs and colorful fish. The water was so clear, we could see marine life even without diving in! The turquoise lagoon and calm sea make it a perfect place for both beginners and experienced snorkelers. It’s peaceful, scenic, and truly showcases the underwater beauty of Mauritius. Highly recommend this hidden gem — an ideal half-day trip for families or couples wanting a serene, awe-inspiring experience.

We did glass bottom boat and snorkeling there. It was weekday so there was no crowd. We were alone in our boat so we could enjoy it better and fed fish with bread. Amazing experience of snorkeling also as the water was clear. This video I shot on my phone while doing snorkeling

Blue Marine Bay is hands down one of the most beautiful and peaceful coastal spots in Mauritius. The shoreline here is absolutely stunning clear turquoise waters, gentle waves, and a calm, laid-back vibe that’s perfect for relaxing or exploring the sea. What really makes this spot special is the snorkeling. You can easily rent a boat to take you near the corals and beautiful spots with colorful varieties of Fish. The waters are incredibly clear, making it easy to see the vibrant marine life just below the surface. From colorful coral to schools of tropical fish, every swim feels like stepping into a natural aquarium. You don’t even have to go far from shore just a few meters in, and you’re surrounded by beauty. Just one advice check the weather before you plan to visit the marine as more calmer the waves more clearer the marine life.

Tamarind Falls, also known as Tamarin Falls or Seven Falls, is a stunning eco-destination in Mauritius. The series of seven waterfalls on Riviere Tamarin offers breathtaking views of Le Morne Mountain and the surrounding lush landscape. Hiking to the falls provides an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the area and the Black River Gorges National Park.
Hiked falls 4-1 (reverse order) with our wonderful guide: ‘Hiking with Ashwin’ - I recommend you look him up on Facebook and prearrange! Amazing experience with beautiful scenery. Plenty of photo opportunities and spots to swim. Have to be reasonably fit and prepared for some ‘bush bashing’ through the jungle as we say in Australia.

Some amazing scenery of the waterfalls and options for a dip in the pools if you're brave enough. The walk down and backup is not for the faint hearted especially in the wet when we went. A level of fitness, sensible footwear and coordination is needed

Beautiful hike. We did the whole loop of 7 waterfalls and it was quite a challenge. Especially the last climb up was a killer. Make sure to take at least 3 liters of water if you are a couple. Otherwise you might have a heartaches like I had 😅
Tomáš H — Google review
Amazing waterfalls but very challenging trails, not for beginners and proper footwear is a must. Don't wear average trainers. You will also get wet feet as you have to cross the river/waterfall. Parking is weird, just find a lay by and park there, no official parking and you need to walk through a sugar cane plantation to find the trail. We used Komoot to follow the route and I would not try it without a route app.
Suzy G — Google review
*Tamarind falls hiking trail start - is a correct Google map point to start You will see a Hindu temple as you arrive. Parking on the left side next to the sugar cane fields on the right. Do not walk straight past the Hindu temple - its a tamarind restaurant. You need to walk right opposite of the temple, to the right side on a little field road in to the sugar cane fields. You will be greeted or harassed by the "guides", from our experiences, they were tad awful, unhelpful and told us wrong information. As you walk into the sugarcane fields, you will soon meet the first fall. Walk a bit further then the second fall (from the drone shot) We didnt trek further from this point.

This is a must do in Mauritius. The seven waterfalls are great. Book a guided hike as it is important.

Wonderful place ! Such a pity as we were there in November, there was not much water, otherwise it must be much more impressive. We’ve considered to hike there without a guide but changed our minds according to the recommendations from the local. I would say, the way isn’t that difficult a bit of a hike up and down hill . The problem is that without a guide, it’s not easy to find the way. We saw a couple tried to get through the bushes and told us that they have the App and a lady who slipped and got injured on her head. 😓 If you want to have a guide and didn’t book in advance, there’ll be many at the trailhead. The locals told me that it should not cost more than 1500 rupees per person. So don’t forget to negotiate. Hiking shoes is a must!
Som M — Google review
Hike down was a bit challenging due to the mud. We are experienced hikers but we did not regret hiring a local guide!we had fun and the views of the waterfall were great but prepare to get dirty if you come in winter season!it took us 2h and we started at 9am

Black River Gorge is the only national park in Mauritius, offering captivating views of the forested mountain landscape from various viewpoints. The Macchabee viewpoint, located along the 10km long Macchabee trail, provides far-reaching views and opportunities to spot white-tailed tropicbirds and rare Mauritian pink pigeons. The park's dense forest is home to native flora and fauna, including endangered bird species like the Mauritius kestrel and pink pigeon.
We were taken to this stunning beauty stop as part of our guided tour day ( just us and guide in an air conditioned modern taxi, well worth the investment ). The views are magnificent with waterfall, stunning vistas, graceful birds soaring on the heatwaves. Its free to visit, you can feed the Macaque Monkeys that come out from the forest and also pick up some great little craft items and gifts from the street sellers there. Much cheaper than hotel and shops!! A must see/stop if you want to discover more of the beauty this wonderful island has to offer. Remember, there is so much more to see in this National Park.

A stunning house typical of the American colonial style and with a lot of family history. There's almost no reference to the life of the slaves upon whose backs the money was made.....maybe that reflects the fact that the family still live and work here. Either way it's a sad omission in an otherwise impressive place

The gift shop is also worth a stop, with lots of teas, flavoured rums , biscuits and other treats to bring home. Overall, it felt wholesome, relaxing, and truly memorable ✨ — I’d highly recommend

A pleasant place to visit. The museum is small and unimpressive but the tea tasting experience is lovely. No limit to the number of tea flavours to taste, overlooking a placid lake. Restaurant prices are reasonable, though we did not eat there. Boars, chicken and monkeys can be found here.

If you enjoy a little ripp off , then this is the place to go to. 650 MRU per person for a 12 minute so so tour and tea tasting where you get some hot water, cheap cookies and lowest grade tea ( we wanted to try and buy the premium ones but could do neither) is really not a good value proposition. Trying to take a walk though the plantation also not possible as after 100 mtr a sign blocked going any further. But at least you can take a rest on this only bench to take in the view. The plantation itself is vast, but compared to our 7 Colours Chamarel visit a big disappointment . Restaurant probably ok, but did not try..

🌿✨ Misty tea plantations, tranquil ponds, and the serene taste of Bois Chéri tea in the heart of nature… pure magic. ☕💫 A little wish though fresh sugar cane or even brun sugar from just a few km away would have made the crêpes even more magical! 🌱 Supporting local treasures makes every tasting an even richer experience. 💛

I found the information quite hard to find online about the different tours elements to the museum/factory/tasting. Luckily we didn’t need to pre book anything and any queries were answered when we arrived. We did a tour of the factory. During winter there is little tea production happening but it’s still interesting to see. The museum is self guided but it all felt a bit random to be honest and didn’t spend much time there. The tea tasting was okay, you sit down at a table with a pot of hot water and you basically make all the tea yourself from all the boxes of tea they leave on the table. Some explanation would have been nice of each tea. The service here was slow when wanting more hot water. However the views from the tasting / restaurant area are really lovely and worth doing still.
Selina Z — Google review
We first arrived around 11:30 a.m. to join the tour, but after waiting in quite a long line, we learned that there wouldn’t be an English tour until 1 p.m. They could definitely provide better information about the tour times. Secondly, since we were hungry, we wanted to go to the restaurant, but there was a very strong odor and it was completely empty. So we decided to move on to the tea tasting. Except for the vanilla tea, the other flavored teas had aroma but no taste — for example, the caramel tea smelled like caramel but didn’t taste like it. The tea tasting costs 250 MUR per person. The place can be worth visiting for its view and because it offers a different kind of activity on the island, but given the unhelpful staff and the lack of flavor in the teas, it might not really be worth the effort to go.
Zeynep — Google review
Very nice working tea factory in the center of the island, you can visit the production plant, tea museum and they have a nice tasting for teas they produce together with some very delicious tea biscuits. You can also have lunch at their restaurant which give you a nice view as it is found on a hilltop, a few animals like chickens, deers and wild boars Romania around. All in all a nice place to visit!

My recent visit to the golf club in Mauritius was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I stepped onto the course, I was captivated by the stunning landscapes and meticulously maintained fairways. The club's commitment to excellence is evident in every aspect. The course itself offers a challenging yet enjoyable layout, catering to golfers of all skill levels. The undulating terrain, strategically placed hazards, and well-designed greens provided a truly engaging round of golf. The staff at the golf club deserves special commendation. Their warm hospitality and genuine enthusiasm for the sport created a welcoming atmosphere. Whether it was assistance with club rentals, expert advice on course strategies, or a friendly chat at the clubhouse, their professionalism left a positive impression. The clubhouse facilities were equally impressive, offering a perfect blend of comfort and elegance. The course and greens are kept in good condition. A good variety of holes, not too challenging but challenging enough for an enjoyable round. Caddy staff friendly and helpful. Being so close to the coast you'd expect more views of the sea, but it's a good looking course anyway.

It was a wonderful Saturday night! We were lucky enough to stay for dinner even though we didn't have a reservation! A big thanks to the waiter and manager for carefully calculating our reservations and arranging a table for us at 7pm! O Grill, with its French lifestyle and chanson accompaniment, truly puts a lot of effort into the service, including the food! We thoroughly enjoyed every moment there💕 Tonight is full of surprise performances, fire dance show and cello performance🎵

Superb golf course and facility at Bel Ombre in Mauritius. Proper championship stuff. All the course was in wonderful condition, fairways, greens, water hazards, bunkers. Paradise for golfers. Well catered, lovely clubhouse, friendly knowlegable staff. And a very well stocked pro shop. (Although some of the clothing was a tad expensive, as you might expect)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Heritage Golf Club – Le Château Course: Mauritius Golf at Its Finest Heritage Golf Club’s Le Château Course is nothing short of world-class — a meticulously designed layout set against one of the most spectacular backdrops on the island. Framed by rolling hills, lush sugarcane fields, and sweeping views of the Indian Ocean, this course strikes the perfect balance between championship-level challenge and natural beauty. The course itself is in superb condition. Fairways are perfectly manicured, greens roll true, and the overall maintenance rivals top international resorts. Designed to reward precision and strategy, Le Château offers a variety of holes — from elevated tee boxes with panoramic views to water-lined fairways that demand accuracy. Every hole feels distinct, making the round both mentally engaging and visually unforgettable. Service is exceptional from start to finish. The staff are genuinely welcoming and efficient, from the pro shop check-in to the starter and course marshals. Caddies and buggy service are smooth and professional, adding to the overall sense of polish. The practice facilities — including a well-equipped driving range, short game area, and putting greens — are excellent for a proper warm-up before your tee time. After the round, the clubhouse and terrace overlooking the course provide the perfect setting to unwind, with great food, cold drinks, and views that remind you why Mauritius is a top-tier golf destination. In short: Heritage Golf Club’s Le Château Course is a must-play for any golfer visiting Mauritius — whether you’re here for leisure or serious play. It combines challenging, beautifully designed golf with flawless course conditions and exceptional hospitality. It’s not just a round of golf; it’s an experience.

Very friendly staff, more easy going than other courses I visited on Mauritius (they won’t chase you down the course if you’re 2 minutes behind your time f.i.). Beautiful course, not easy but fun. Shop offers used balls at discount prices, you should get some, you’ll lose a few. Restaurant also very nice at fair prices. The course is not right next to the ocean (as I thought) but has some beautiful slopes and vistas in all directions. If I come back to the island, I come back here.

The course is very nice but management is highly unreliable; we had booked our tee time months before and they changed it from 10.12 to 7.30 without advising us. People there were not able to help and were lost in space. Not sure what is going to happen, it was prepaid and we were very disappointed. Avoid this golf course even though it is nice

La Vallée de Ferney is a 200-hectare nature reserve and wildlife sanctuary in Ferney, Mauritius. It was recently saved from developers and is home to rare and endangered endemic species. The reserve offers well-marked trails for hiking and biking, with the option of guided walks that provide valuable insights into the area's nature, history, and wildlife. Visitors can explore the 400-year-old forest which serves as an important habitat for the endangered Mauritius kestrel.
I did the 5km circuit and it’s so beautiful and peaceful. Easy walk. But very hot. Have your hat, sunscreen and water. For the price you might want to do the longer hikes but they are more difficult
Liliya R — Google review
Very nice hiking area (although with an entrance fee) that is kept really clean (regarding trash) and authentic (regarding wilderness). We did the medium yellow hiking tour and the 3-4 hours estimation was correct. Because of the rain the night ago, the path was quite muddy and slippery so hiking boots are highly recommended. The path was mainly a path that could also be driven by pickups, we would have preferred some single tracks though the forest itself as well. Also the view in the valley was really nice, I cannot understand people that only do the easy path with no elevation and are surprised that you have no mountain viewpoint...
Helge S — Google review
It was a nice experience and we enjoyed the 13km hike with my husband. The views, despite the cloudy weather, were breathtaking. Noteworthy, some drain rails were very rusty and old, and you could easily have foot stucked inside if you're not careful. Furthermore, it was sad to see that some visitors left their used beer cans and whatnot in the nature. Finally, on the last part of the hike, there was a no entry board, despite arrows pointing that it was the correct direction, which was confusing.

Very nice hike. There was only 5km route open, but it was good enough. Nice landscapes and wildlife. We saw parakeets, fruit bats and even a falcon! Entrace fee 500Rs/person
Marketa K — Google review
Really beautiful hike surrounded by lush forest, with a constant soundtrack of birds chirping. Just don’t expect stunning views of the lagoon; it’s more about feeling immersed in the valley, where you can pass the giant tortoises and spot deer if you’re lucky. We did the yellow route and then switched over to the red to finish earlier—something their official map doesn’t indicate is possible but is clearly marked (and shown on AllTrails), which made the whole thing 3 hours, a perfect length for us to do between breakfast and lunch.

We are a family of nature nerds who recently enjoyed a fun and informative guided tour at La Vallee de Ferney. Our guide Olivier was friendly, happy to answer any questions we had and taught us a lot about the endemic vegetation in the area. The bumpy transfer in the Landcruiser was a highlight for the kids and the short loop (2-3km) on a nature trail through endemic forest was pleasant and an easy gradient. We were lucky enough to see a Mauritian Kestrel which was on my bucket list - so thank you! We will definitely be back to do the 13km trail next time. The scenery is beautiful and we loved the conservation efforts being made at this nature reserve.

Very nice wildlife reserve, providing beautiful views. You can hike on your own (5/13/18 km trail) or do a guided tour/4x4 tour (these definitely have to be booked in advance). Pity that the place is not promoted a bit more. If our host didn’t tell us to go, we wouldn’t know about it at all.

Nestled at the base of the imposing Le Morne Brabant mountain in western Mauritius, Le Morne Public Beach is a picturesque stretch of coastline featuring swaying casuarina trees and fine white sand. This 4 km long beach is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and offers a range of water sports including kitesurfing, windsurfing, scuba diving, and snorkeling.
One of our favourite beaches in Mauritius. There are two sides to the beach, the windy side where you see all the kite surfing and the sheltered side where you can enjoy a nice swim. There is a restaurant, plenty of parking, public bathrooms and lots of shade. There is plenty of coral so be careful to look where you are stepping. The view is amazing and the sunsets are stunning.

Le Morne Public Beach is a beautiful and peaceful spot, perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature. The crystal-clear water and stunning mountain backdrop make it feel like paradise. It’s great for swimming, sunsets, or just lounging under the trees. There’s a free parking lot, which is super convenient, and free public toilets available. Just a heads-up, there’s no toilet paper, so make sure to bring your own.
Kim K — Google review
Beautiful, blue, clear water and nice, clean beach. A long, if not the longest strip of beach in Mauritius. A few trees here and there to sit in the shade but otherwise there's not much there to keep you out of the sun since it's a public beach. There's a few vendors for food, accessories and souvenirs and even a public bathroom next to the parking lot but I wouldn't recommend to go there if you have to sit down or touch anything because it's VERY dirty and unhygienic. For such a big beach and tourist spot I would hope for better infrastructure regarding toilets and showers here.
Tom — Google review
There is a plenty of parking on public parking, pass the grass and the beach is there. But, do not expect something remarkable. Lots of dead corals along the beach and also big stones in shallow water. The most valuable is the view from resort to Le Morne mountain..

Botanical garden in the North of Mauritius! By 300 MUR/person you can enter that beautiful garden. You will find plenty of exotic trees and plants from many different countries. Additionally there are some deers and tortoises to see. It takes approx. 2h to walk around and enjoy the landscape. If you want, also a guide can be booked for a small fee. Some buildings on the premise are damaged and it could be somewhat better maintained and clean.
Michael F — Google review
Pamplemousses Garden You have to pay 300 rupees entry fee. Definitely take a guide, they charge 2 euros for a sixty till ninety minutes tour of the botanical garden. This is how you get the most information about them, like spices and some plants. The park is very beautifully landscaped and very clean. There is really much to see!
Alex S — Google review
Nice place to spend some time and see some cool and diverse plants. Problem is that you can see its lacking maintenance both in the plants and tree and in the sort of memorial thing that's there. Still a nice spot to go to to see something different from the beaches and get some shade. If you are lucky you may see some cool birds too
Lucie G — Google review
An amazing, peaceful and quiet place to visit. A plethora of plants to view and bask under. There is ample parking, but be weary on Sundays. It is free entrance for Mauritians, so it can get quite busy. They have an amazing medicinal garden with a variety of species endemic to the island. You can spend up to 3 hours here walking around and taking pictures. They do have guided tours as well.
Warwick M — Google review
The botanical garden is beautifully landscaped. Compared to other botanical gardens, there are definitely more trees than flowers. In addition, there are turtles and deer. With a local guide you can have a well guided tour for a small obulus. Within an hour you can see the most beautiful trees. It is very exciting to see how many different types of palm trees there actually are. The water lilies were unfortunately not very pronounced during our visit, probably because of the season.
Marei B — Google review
The park seems neglected. Many signs are missing or unreadable, paths not well maintained, some plants are overgrown with weeds. The medicinial herb garden isn't groomed and many herbs are missing. The giant turtles dwell in a far too small enclosure. Information is only available if booking a guide. Even though walking through the gardens is stunning, lots of old and rare trees, beautiful lotus ponds and bountiful birds. Don't forget mosquito repellent if you visit.
Sarojini S — Google review
After you enter there are guides who will offer a tour for 75 Mauritian rupees per person. It's worth it. They will walk you through the grounds explaining the different plants and it makes it much more interactive and fun. Our one was a joker..very funny.

L'Aventure du Sucre is a museum housed in a former sugar factory, showcasing the history and cultivation of sugarcane. The museum offers an outing that pays tribute to the island's sugar industry, leading visitors through the scenic sugar cane fields to Le Mauricia domain and its impressive intendance tree alley.
My wife and I had a free day, so we decided to go to this museum. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice it is! We spent a lot of time reading about the history of sugar in Mauritius. Very interesting! The old, converted factory had much of the same equipment used from back in the day. Very cool to see up close. And it was very kid friendly! Great place to take the family. Once you’ve followed the path and reached the end, you go through the museum store where you can sample various types of sugar and try different Mauritian rums. Whew! Really strong! Overall, we really liked the museum and would highly recommend it if you’re on the north side of Mauritius. Well worth the $26.50/adult we paid for admission.

Really well organised museum. Not only explaining the history and processing of sugar cane, but also general history of Mauritius. We were really impressed by the audio guide too, explaining a good amount of detail. If you visit one museum then it should be this one! The restaurant on site is great for a lunch or drink after your visit too

This was an amazing experience! There is so much information about the history of Mauritius and of sugar. We stayed much longer than planned to see it all. It’s ok, but wouldn’t go out of your way to visit for 1.200 per person… is not a good representation of what you can get in the island. Lots of reading to be done which boring quite quickly and quite a few of the exhibits were not active and dismantled.

Also there are souvenir shops where you can buy sugar based sweets or alcohol which are unique to this part. If you want you can taste samples before select. Also this provides space for you to dine with families or friends with a great restaurant. The staff is friendly and supportive. Rhumerie de Chamarel Restaurant & Rum Distillery is a must-visit in the south-west corner of the island. The distillery offers an immersive experience, guiding visitors through the rum-making process and offering tastings of its exquisite rums. Designed by Mauritian architect Maurice Giraud, the distillery seamlessly blends into its tropical surroundings with wood, natural stone, and water elements.
We arrived just after 4 p.m. and were lucky to catch the very last tour before closing time at 4:30. The visit was quite fast-paced — maybe because it was the final group — but still interesting. We got to see the equipment used in rum production, learned about the process and how it’s stored. Then came the tasting, which was super generous: around a dozen varieties, from clear and aged rums to versions flavored with vanilla, coffee, and more. It was a lot of rum in a short time, but fun and well done. The place itself is beautiful, and the staff was really friendly. Everything is close by — the colorful Seven Coloured Earth and the waterfall are just around the corner — so you can easily combine it all into one perfect little day trip. There’s also a highly rated restaurant on-site, though we didn’t try it ourselves.
Melanie K — Google review
Interesting tour with degustation of rhums. But we were a little bit disappointed because we didn’t see sugar cane processing. 6 months is maintenance. Production is from July to December. We saw it just on TV. We stayed for lunch and food was so delicious. Ambience very pleasant and staff friendly. Recommend if you are on Mauritius.
Radka N — Google review
Great tour about the process of making rum from sugar cane - the eleven shots of different rums at the end certainly add to the experience. Disappointed with the duck main.
B P — Google review
Only 4 stars as the groups are way too big to hear what the guide is talking. Additionally so many different groups that tasting was a bit a mess with other people of an other group still being there. I was there late afternoon during the week. Also machines were not working anymore. Tasting of 11 different types was good.
Sabrina N — Google review
The place has a good vibe and a nice overall atmosphere. The tour + rum tasting costs 650 MUR per person, which includes tasting 11 different rums. However, the groups are too big, making the tour feel crowded and a bit rushed. The rums themselves are okay, nothing exceptional. Overall, it’s an average experience — worth it if you want to see the distillery, but not something I’d highly recommend
Ritu S — Google review
A mix of a nice place to visit and a tourist trap, and somewhat overpriced. The grounds are beautiful and well looked after. But the tour is a bit fast, and the experience of enjoying 11 small shots of rum sounds better than it is. There's not even an adult price entry without the run tasting, which is a bit disrespectful for drivers or non-drinkers.
AlexesKraft — Google review
The guided tour includes rum tasting of at least 10 types, but overall I think it’s a bit rushed. It would help if they had at least some basic information about the process written around so you can read on your own.
Maria B — Google review
I went for the rum tasting tour (MUR650). They have two if I’m not wrong, one for English and another for French. They run the tours very frequently and I only waited 5 minutes. I would say the whole tour, including tasting, took about 45 minutes. While there were reviews that mentioned the negative side of big groups, I felt mine was well managed. Probably also because almost everyone was very cooperative and patient. We learnt about the process of making rum using sugar cane and tried many rums. My favourites are the mandarin and pineapple ones.

Run by Anoushka so helpful and patient, we tried on several trainers etc and then bought quite a few bits . She is a kind natured lady not like some of the stall holders . Perched high on a hill overlooking the harbor in Port Louis, Fort Adelaide, also known as La Citadelle, is a 19th-century military fortress built by the British. This sturdy black basalt structure was constructed to counter a potential invasion by the French and control local opposition to the abolition of slavery. Today, it offers panoramic views of the capital, Moka mountain range, Champs de Mar horse racing track, and the harbor.
It is not the forte. It is another historical place at Port Louis. It is free admission and plenty of parking space available. You can see the whole Port Louis from this place with 360 view!

The fort holds a lot of history, but sadly, there’s no information inside to educate visitors about it. There isn’t much to explore within the fort itself - you simply stroll around, enjoy the elevated views, and take pictures. The city of Port Louis looks stunning from up here, offering great photo opportunities of both the city and the fort. Entry is free, and you can park your car right outside before heading in.
Paulomi R — Google review
The entrance is free, you can walk around the walls of this fortress, but there is not much to do when you arrive. Only the views on Port Louis city and nearby hills are amazing. There is no pernament exhibition and just several cannons show historic importance of this place which now serves only as a viewpoint or parking place. Parking is possible inside/outside of the fortress and It’s also feee.

Perched on a hill overlooking Port Louis, Citadelle (Fort Adelaide) is a 19th-century fortress built by the British. Named after the wife of King William IV, Queen Adelaide, it offers panoramic views of the city, harbor, and surrounding mountains. Constructed from black basalt rocks in a Moorish style, the fort was intended to protect the port and quell potential local unrest but was never used for military purposes. Today, it stands as a historical landmark offering insights into the colonial era. Visitors can explore the well-preserved grounds, view old cannons, and enjoy the 360-degree vistas. The former barracks have been transformed into **boutique shops**. The fort is also becoming a cultural hub, hosting events and performances. A visit to Citadelle provides a blend of history and stunning scenery, making it a worthwhile stop in Port Louis. It's recommended to visit in the late afternoon to enjoy cooler temperatures and potentially a beautiful sunset over the city.

We visited Citadelle Fort (Fort Adelaide) on Oct 03 as part of our Port Louis city itinerary, and it was definitely worth the stop! 🏰 Perched atop a hill overlooking the capital city, this 19th-century British fortress offers breathtaking panoramic views of Port Louis, the harbor, and the surrounding mountains ⛰️🌊. The fort, built from black basalt rocks in a Moorish style, has been beautifully preserved and gives a glimpse into Mauritius’ colonial history 🇲🇺. Walking around the fort was a pleasant experience — we admired the old cannons, explored the courtyard, and even checked out the small boutique shops now housed in the former barracks 🛍️. The place has a peaceful vibe, and it’s easy to spend time soaking in the views and taking pictures 📸. Highly recommend visiting in the late afternoon to enjoy the cool breeze and possibly catch a gorgeous sunset over Port Louis 🌅.

Citadelle Fort Adelaide is definitely one of the best spots to soak in the beauty of Port Louis! The moment I reached the top, the panoramic view of the entire city was absolutely amazing 👏😍 From the bustling streets to the colorful rooftops and even the sparkling port, everything looked picture-perfect from above. The fort itself carries a strong historical vibe, with its old stone walls and peaceful surroundings. It’s the kind of place where you can take a slow walk, breathe in the fresh air, and just enjoy the scenery. 🌬️🌤️ Whether you're into photography, history, or just want a chill place to relax, this is a must-visit when you're in Port Louis. Perfect for capturing stunning shots or simply enjoying a quiet moment while admiring the view. 📸💙 Highly recommended if you’re exploring Mauritius! 🌺🇲🇺

Honestly a very boring place , the city views from the top are better than the fort itself , the cannons seem so out of place . Anyways don’t waste much time here it’s not worth it

Must be added to your itinerary when you are in port louis . This fort is reachable by car, and will not take more than half n hour to explore the fort and capture the bird eye view of port louis town.

Beaches
Gris Gris Beach, situated in the southernmost part of Mauritius near the historic village of Souillac, offers a unique and dramatic coastal experience. Unlike other beaches on the island, Gris Gris is characterized by its high sea cliffs and powerful waves that crash against them. While swimming and water sports are not advisable due to strong currents, visitors can still appreciate the tropical beauty and stunning sunsets from viewpoints like Roche qui Pleure.
Parking 🅿️ Lot small. Must wait to get parking. Else view is spectacular. Tourists should be warned not to adventure in Gris Gris sea water as the sea is very rough and more rough on severely windy rainy days. Be warn to venture on shore with cautiousness and walking on top against wind with cautiousness. Precautions are to be taken at all times.

The view is wow!!! High waves and beautiful rocks. I always enjoyed my trip there. Swimming is forbidden there but there’s some food stalls and restaurant nearby-good for picnic. Highly recommended for tourists who come to visit Mauritius island.

A scenic spot with cliffs, strong waves, and no lagoon — so no swimming, just enjoying the view and fresh sea breeze.
Djameel H — Google review
Your visit to the south is incomplete whithout a pitstop at Gris-Gris Beach. The views are out of the world. The winds and waves are very strong. Bring your own food and enjoy some leisurely time at this place.
Nikhil P — Google review
Gris Gris Beach is a stunning and dramatic spot on the southern coast of Mauritius. Unlike other beaches on the island, it has no coral reef, so the waves crash powerfully against the cliffs. The views are breathtaking, and the atmosphere is wild and peaceful. A must-see for nature lovers
Anna M — Google review
We stopped at this spot on our south coast tour. It's an impressive area with cliffs and a sandy beach. However, the parking lot is rather small. Due to the strong surf, I wouldn't go swimming there. There's a sign warning of the danger. The view, however, is breathtaking.
Robert H — Google review
Absolutely crazy waves😍 it is worth it to coming here and take 5min to go to the rocks. You see a lot of crabs 🦀 and you feel the waves when they hit the rocks. When you like to see the biggest type of spider in Mauritius, just take a walk auf 15min, 😏😅
Tastetwinsbym2 — Google review
The beach is dangerous for bathing. There are warning signs. There are big waves and rough swells. Nice view. Probably surfers would go there. There was no one 🕜 n the water while I was there

The Catamaran excursion for Gabriel and Flat Islands was amazing!!! The weather that day was pretty windy but the captains were very professional in navigating the waves and currents. Best part was the delicious and unlimited food and drinks! Will definitely book with them again 💙

I visited Blue Safari in Mauritius and it was an amazing experience! The lady who welcomed us gave a clear and detailed explanation of everything. The whole crew was friendly, and the submarine captain was polite and calm — he explained everything we saw underwater. We spotted dolphins, a turtle, and many types of fish. The underwater ride lasted around 45 minutes, and the whole experience took about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Highly recommended if you’re looking for something unique and refreshing!
Abdulaziz S — Google review
We visited Blue Safari Submarines with our family and had an absolutely wonderful time. The logistics were smooth from the start. Parking was easy; they have space for a few cars inside and plenty of parking available just outside their premises. The team was professional and ran the entire process efficiently. We were given an initial briefing before a ferry took us out to the main platform. There, we received a second, clear briefing on the dos and don'ts before boarding the submarine one by one. The submarine itself seats ten passengers plus the captain. While it is a small space (as expected!), we didn't find it to be uncomfortable at all. The dive reaches a maximum depth of 35 meters and the view is spectacular. We were thrilled to watch the vibrant undersea life, including beautiful corals, schools of fish, and a few turtles, and also got a close look at a shipwreck. To top it all off, they provide a certificate confirming that you've made the dive in a real submarine—a great souvenir! The entire Blue Safari team was highly professional and helpful, and all instructions were very clear. We felt completely safe throughout the whole trip and would recommend this as a safe and unique experience for both adults and children. A must-do!
Awhan M — Google review
The submarine tour didn’t meet my expectations — perhaps I was expecting too much. I couldn’t see colorful corals or fish; everything looked mostly blue, white, and a bit blurry. Maybe the glass windows weren’t very clean. It was my first experience, though, so overall I still felt it was a worthwhile trip.

A Truly Relaxing and Memorable Experience with Blue Safari’s Southern Catamaran Cruise Blue Safari’s Southern Catamaran Cruise was the perfect blend of leisure, scenic beauty, and top-notch hospitality. From start to finish, everything was exceptionally well-organized. The online booking process was smooth and hassle-free, and the booking team patiently answered all my queries over WhatsApp—something I truly appreciated. On the day of the cruise, we were warmly welcomed by the Blue Safari team at Pointe des Régates in Mahébourg. A quick speedboat transfer brought us to the beautiful catamaran, where our journey began at 9:30 AM. We were greeted with a cheerful welcome and a helpful tour briefing by our lovely host, Rose. The cruise was led by Captain Jack and his wonderful four-member crew, who ensured we were comfortable and well taken care of throughout. We were a small, friendly group—two families and a few couples—which made the experience feel even more personal. Our first stop was a snorkelling session, and I was thrilled to see my daughter try it for the first time. The crew was incredibly encouraging and made the moment extra special. As we sailed through the stunning blue-green waters, drinks flowed freely, and we found ourselves completely immersed in the tranquillity of the sea. Rose shared interesting facts about the nearby lighthouse and surroundings, adding a thoughtful touch to the journey. Next, we hopped on a speedboat to visit the breathtaking GRSE waterfall—a highlight of the trip. Back on the catamaran, we were treated to a delicious barbecue lunch. Relaxing on the deck with the sea breeze and panoramic views was simply mesmerising. By 2 PM, we reached the picturesque Île aux Cerfs, where we enjoyed a refreshing swim in the shallow turquoise waters. The island was well-equipped with facilities like showers, changing rooms, beach chairs, and cozy shack restaurants. After an hour of island time, we returned to the catamaran for a delightful tea and coffee session accompanied by freshly baked cake and soft background music. As rain clouds began to roll in, the team ensured we got back to the starting point safely by 4 PM. Every aspect of the cruise was thoughtfully planned and executed. A special thanks to Rose, whose warmth and hospitality made us feel completely at home. This was truly an experience of a lifetime—spending quality time with family, disconnected from the digital world, surrounded by serene waters and breathtaking views. Highly recommend this day cruise if you’re visiting Mauritius! Be sure to check their website for more cruise options based on your location—there’s something for everyone.

Very expensive for the type of experience. It's not worth more than 2000-3000 rupees/ person. Speaker system inside the submarine is useless, all one hears is mumbling from the pilot steering and posing as a tour guide. Otherwise one gets a short shuttle boat ride to the submarine. Shipwreck can be viewed. The experience is recommended but negotiate for the right price.

We did underwater submarine. What an amazing experience. The pilot Damien was brilliant trying his best to give us the best experience . I have read some reviews commenting on it being expensive. Maintaining and running the submarine is expensive itself.

Ebony Forest Reserve Chamarel is a remarkable conservation initiative in Mauritius, aiming to recreate the island's indigenous native forest that existed 250 years ago. Covering 45 hectares, this reserve offers 7km of hiking trails, raised walkways into the mid-canopy, and safari jeep tours. The estate has planted 110,000 indigenous trees and is home to nine endemic bird species including the pink pigeon and echo parakeet.
This place is quiet, peaceful, and well-maintained. Everything is natural and preserved beautifully. The environment is fresh and calming — a perfect escape into nature. The tourist guides were very friendly and knowledgeable, explaining everything with passion. I really enjoyed the walk through the forest and spotting some rare and uncommon birds. The 3D show was a highlight — it gave a fascinating insight into Mauritian culture, nature, and history. The viewpoints also offer stunning views of the island. Highly recommended for nature lovers and anyone looking to experience the real beauty of Mauritius.

Booked a Birdwatching walk. 3 to 4 hours actually did 4 3/4 hour hike Ans saw 5 of the 7 rare birds. Guide Damian was excellent knowledgeable and friendly. Superb views from the viewpoints. You do need a reasonable level of fitness for the walk but there is a jeep ride alternative

🌿 5/5 – Amazing Experience! Had a wonderful time on the self-guided hike at Ebony Forest in Chamarel. The trails are well-marked, peaceful, and surrounded by beautiful native trees and birds. The views from the top are breathtaking — especially over Le Morne and the coast. Staff were friendly and informative, and it’s great to see the effort put into forest restoration. Perfect spot for nature lovers and anyone who enjoys a calm, scenic walk in Mauritius. Highly recommended!

I had the chance to visit the Ebony Forest in Chamarel, Mauritius, and it was a wonderful experience. The reserve is beautifully maintained, offering a mix of scenic walking trails, viewpoints, and a chance to learn about the island’s unique biodiversity. The highlight for me was the walk through the restored native forest, where you can see giant tortoises and rare bird species. The viewpoints overlooking Le Morne and the coastline are breathtaking, and the skywalk gives a unique perspective of the forest canopy. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, always ready to share interesting facts about conservation and local history. It’s not a very long visit, but it’s definitely worth it if you enjoy nature, quiet surroundings, and eco-friendly activities. Overall, a satisfying experience that combines relaxation, education, and beautiful views. 🌿🐢🌍✨ #EbonyForest #MauritiusTravel #Chamarel #NatureLovers #EcoTourism #MauritiusNature #TravelMauritius #Conservation #HiddenGem #IslandParadise

We did the self-guided hike from the visitor centre to Sublime Point. It’s an easy to moderate walk through the forest, good trainers or walking shoes are needed. The forest was stunning, we saw tortoises, geckos, and heard and watched so many birds. We stopped at the cafe at Sublime Point for a drink and chatted with Damien who was running the kiosk. He pointed out the names of mountains and towns, spotted a flying fox and herd of deer in the valley below. He was also kind enough to take our picture
Brett D — Google review
Did the Love Tree Tour and it was Fantastic! Jean was a great guide, was really knowledgeable and friendly. We saw Geckos, birds and Tortoises up close! So a tour so animals can be pointed out for you. Highly recommend to experience the forest without a strenuous hike, easy for kids and older people. The open jeep up the mountain was really comfy and fun, and the views at sublime point were amazing! Facilities were new with nice clean toilets, gift shop for souvenirs and snacks, not a place for lunch so go to Chamarel Cafe for that. Great to support the conservation effort for Mauritius

The Ebony Forest is an amazing experience! Went there after the 7 earths and did not regret it. Almost no other people there. We did not take the full route but the shorter one to the Le Morne Viewpoint (highly recommended) and it took us more than 2.5 hours - not because it was that far but because we paused everywhere stunned by the flora and fauna. There are giant turtles you can meet there in the wild and besides the huge variety of plants you’ll get a true nature experience with a lot of panoramic views that give you a jungle feeling. Would highly recommend going there and include the treetop walk where you’ll get educated about the ebony trees, other endangered plants like the coral tree (where you can see one of 20 trees in total left in the park), geckos in palm trees and many more. The staff is really nice and besides that the project itself cares about the indigenous fauna of the reserve (you’ll support their work to restore and preserve the endangered fauna with the entry fee). 10/10!

This mall is very well maintained with great views and easy accessibility. Directional signs are clear, and even during construction, safety measures are well in place, which is impressive. Cleanliness is top-notch — hats off to the cleaning staff! The food court is kept neat, and tables are sanitized after each use. There's also a wide variety of restaurants offering different cuisines. Families will appreciate the kids' play area, and there are occasional shows and events too. Parking is spacious, but it can still be hard to find a spot during busy hours. The only downside is the unpleasant smell that appears in the evenings or at night — it happens regularly and can be uncomfortable. Hopefully, this can be resolved soon. Overall, a great place to shop, dine, and spend time with family.

Really enjoyed our visit here. A lot of the history of shells and interesting facts about them. And a very large collection of shells I had no idea existed. Was very interesting to read about some of the facts and shell associations to different cultures/religions all over the world. Left the place with a new insight for shells which came as a surprise to me. I recommend the visit. There is also a gift shop but is expensive.

Small, cozy, modern. I loved it. Tickets: 275 Rs adult foreign, 125 Rs child foreign, 175 Rs adult resident. Thou museum is tiny, but if you will read all the notes, look on every seashell it will take time. Meanwhile playing marvelous music which creates fantastic atmosphere. You can feel people put a lot of effort into collecting and organizing it into a museum. And very nice souvenirs shop with a lot of handmade products, you will not find cheap Chinese souvenirs there. I love it! I would add there small coffee shop with snacks as place is quite hidden, not many tourists, we were the only ones. Would love to spend more time. There are seashells, you put it to your ear and can hear the ocean. There is also old factory big machines near buy. Unfortunately you can t come close, touch it(maybe cos of safety), but would love to do so and also more information on the place. It could be nice industrial art object.

Beach
Pereybere Public Beach is a bustling and stunning destination backed by shady trees, offering activities like swimming, sunbathing, kayaking, and picnicking. It's located within the Grand Baie area, providing easy access to amenities and accommodations. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden or take a local bus to visit islands like Ile Plate, Ile aux Cerfs, or Ile aux Gabriel.
Stunning small beach. Calm, clean, easy parking. Some snorkeling around the rocks by the left but not great visibility or variety.
Duncan A — Google review
This speech is definitely not our choice, it is too too loud and too busy for us. The water is also not as clear as we like it. Very funny, there were many lazy dogs, laying in the shadows of some trees.
J&J F — Google review
Amazing sunset spot at Pereybere Beach — compact cove with calm, clear water that stays swimmable right up to golden hour, plus handy amenities just off the sand. Arrive 30–45 minutes before sunset to find roadside parking and a shady patch near the park; food trucks and cafés make it easy to grab snacks while waiting for the sky to turn orange‑pink. Families will appreciate the shallow, roped swimming area, showers and toilets; water shoes help for occasional coral or rocks. Tip: for snorkelling, try the left side rocks earlier in the day, then settle in for sunset.
RK — Google review
Very busy place, free parking, toilets, showers. Few stores for fruits and snacks! Very cool!
Milos L — Google review
My favorite beach. Recommend week days morning ☺️
Bonjour H — Google review
Nothing special, small crowded beach in the village... If you walk along the rocks on the right you reach some more quiet little sandy spot where you can swim
Maurice M — Google review
Nice beach with lovely white sand and less coral on entry to the water compared to a lot of other beaches in Mauritius. Rather small and gets quite busy and nothing on the beach in terms of sunbeds / restaurants etc but lots nearby. Lots of shade which is quite nice.
Ruben B — Google review
Nice public beach with some shade from the palm trees. Turquoise water and seem to be quite popular for french people. Completely safe to leave your bag and towel and go for a swim.

Maconde Viewpoint is a must-visit spot located on the southwest tip of Mauritius, offering breathtaking views of the ocean and picturesque landscapes. Accessible via a few narrow steps, this rocky cliff provides an incredible bird's eye view of the surrounding area. While it can get windy and slightly crowded at times, the coastal drive to reach the viewpoint is equally impressive.
Maconde Viewpoint offers one of the most breathtaking views in Mauritius. Perched on a curve in the coastal road, it gives a stunning panoramic look over the turquoise ocean and dramatic cliffs. A quick stop, but absolutely worth it for the photos and the scenery
Anna M — Google review
We visited Maconde Viewpoint and were amazed by the breathtaking panoramic views. The lush greenery, rolling hills, and distant landscapes create a truly scenic spot. We enjoyed spending time here, taking in the beauty of nature and capturing memorable photos.
Rajesh Y — Google review
Breath taking! You won't need to spend a long time here, but it's absolutely worth going! If your afraid of heights, Luke me, Maconde Viewpoint is a nice option for getting perspective on the gorgeous blues of the ocean without traversing 1 of the mountains.
Melissa C — Google review
Spectacular views all around....you can even fly a drone...the drive was amazing...park by the side and climb the stairs
Deepanjan M — Google review
We visited Maconde Viewpoint in the south of Mauritius on Oct 02 while heading to Casela Nature Park. 🌴 The place offers absolutely stunning views of the vast blue ocean 🌊, winding coastal roads 🛣️, and green valleys all around 🌿. We clicked a few pictures 📸 and every shot looked like a postcard! The short climb up is easy, and the panoramic view from the top is totally worth it 👌. A must-stop if you’re exploring the southern coast of Mauritius. 🌅✨
Shashank A — Google review
A definite place on everyone's itinerary. Visit at evening time for a beautiful sunset view.
Nikhil P — Google review
Visited Maconde Viewpoint and it was absolutely worth the stop. The spot offers breathtaking panoramic views of the turquoise ocean, rugged coastline, and the scenic winding road that cuts through the mountains. It’s a perfect place for photography — especially if you want a mix of sea, cliffs, and dramatic curves in one frame. The cool breeze and peaceful atmosphere make it a refreshing break during a road trip. There’s limited parking, but it’s usually manageable if you stop for a short while. The climb up to the viewpoint is quick and easy, and the view from the top is simply stunning. A must-visit if you’re exploring the southern coastal side of Mauritius!

Superb place at the Southern most tip of the Mauritius. The view of road and mountain is unbelievable.

Island
Île aux Benitiers is a 160-acre coral island located about 500 meters off the coast of La Gaulette on the west coast of Mauritius. It features virgin beaches, coconut plantations, and a stunning blue lagoon with panoramic views of the West coast. The island is popular for boat trips, offering visitors an unforgettable adventure with catamaran cruises to its crystal-clear waters.
Great island to visit by boat! Only by boat you can enter that beautiful island with crystal clear water, sandy beaches and a great view to Mauritius main island. There are some small shops with tourist items, food and drinks directly at the beach. You also find places in the shade for a picknick or a rest. Not that far you see the famous Crystal rock as well.
Michael F — Google review
Absolutely stunning place , ile aux cerfs but without the water activities and shops. The water is crystal clear and the beach is perfect for hanging out for a couple of hours
Dipanjan R — Google review
Beautiful little island. The vendors are great. You can get food, drinks, fresh coconuts, and gifts. The island appears unspoilt.
Darren A — Google review
Île aux Benitiers was really cool – clear water, perfect for snorkeling, and we saw lots of fish. Also happy to see not much trash around. Great spot overall!
Justin — Google review
Stunning island! Worth doing if you have half a day free. Lunches provided on tours are amazing, especially the fish and chilli.
Ryan — Google review
Insanely beautiful. This is really what my definition of paradise is, the pics don’t do it justice. Go kayaking if you can!! The lagoon is super shallow.
Jasper — Google review
Nice tour to the island, shallow water.. Clear blue water and dolphins. Crystal rock is nice to see. The island itself is full of trash and not worthy to visit.
M. — Google review
Really beautiful rock in the ocean. We drove past on a motorboat but you can get to it on kayaks and even potentially walk up in water up to your waist. Wouldn't recommend that as it's a long way and there are dangerous shells like a razor that can cut you so wear water shoes

Tamarin Public Beach, located on the west coast of Mauritius near Black River, is a stunning onyx-sand beach popular for its natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere. It offers activities such as swimming, kayaking, and stand-up paddle-boarding with views of dramatic peaks. While it used to be a renowned surfing spot attracting tourists from around the world, the high waves have diminished due to crowd and pollution.
Such a great place to watch the sunset with its nice colors and atmosphere at the beach! Always wonderful, each day!
MaFlex — Google review
Brown sand but clean & tranquil. Spent my time sitting on a bench reading a book here. Accessing the beach is pretty seamless, some parking available & no beach boys bothering you
Irfan V — Google review
Great surfing beach for the kids. The kids had fun learning and we just rented boards from the surf shop next to the hotel. The waters warm but because of the waves is churned up so not the clear water you see at other beaches. Definitely great for surfing, I'd recommend going to flic en flac a bit further up the coast for swimming.
Frankie C — Google review
Great beach to chill, some good food stand here for local street food, surf boards to rent and get lessons, great coffee and good vibes all around. Again, like everywhere, it's safe and I walk alone here on the beach at night coming back from the hotel.
M B — Google review
Great left-hand surf break on reef, but locals are rude and not welcoming, telling us to surf elsewhere. This attitude is not what I have seen from the rest of the Mauritian people, who have been lovely. I recommend taking your surfing and the money you provide to the local businesses and economy to a place where you're welcome.
James B — Google review
Got here 10am and it was so quiet. Chilled on the park benches under the trees. Beautiful azure waters and soft sand. Coral bar runs along the beach so swim shoes are advisable.
A J — Google review
A nice beach to spend time with family and friends. The view of the river and the mountains are beautiful. The waves are great for surfing also.
VIRAJ D — Google review
Dirty water, big waves. Not really enjoyable. But nice sunset and view on mountain and safe water entrance as well

Embark on an unforgettable adventure with Catamaran Cruises Ltd to the picturesque Ile aux Benitiers island in Mauritius. This slice of paradise offers pristine beaches and vibrant marine life, perfect for snorkeling in the turquoise lagoon. Indulge in a sumptuous barbecue lunch on board and bask in the sun on the white sandy beach.
Thoroughly enjoyable day in the catamaran. Very professional staff, attentive to everyone’s needs. All in all a very relaxing trip.
Phill B — Google review
I found the just via google and booked via request. It was super easy. The tour itself (West) was amazing, crew super good, food was decent and not too many people on the boat. Parking is possible even within the marina area which is nice and felt safe with leaving all my bags in there.
Sabrina N — Google review
We had a great time on their Catamaran trip to Ile aux Cerfs! Highly recommend booking with them. The boat was clean and in great shape; the crew was friendly and very quick with the drink service. 10/10
Jordan B — Google review
Wonderful experience in the ocean with catamaran cruise. The staff is very cordial and takes good care of you with entertainment, food and drinks. You can spend a good day in the ocean and go to Ile aux cerfs. One recommendation to the place is to have more vegetarian options and carry more bread on the boat.
Shaival C — Google review
Best experience so far. Went for a catamaran cruise with my family and everyone enjoyed it. The barbecue on board was very good! The staff was super friendly and professional at the same time. We saw the dolphins, went to crystal rock and Ile Aux Benitiers. We had so much fun, even though it went back to Tamarin slightly earlier than expected. And we sailed later in the morning because there were some other people who arrived late. Beside this I personally recommend an experience on a catamaran.
Diksha O — Google review
The service provided by Catamaran Cruise Mauritius is excellent. The crew members are professionally managed well the onboard hospitality, food and beverage, safety aspects .. Food served was also good. The costing is very reasonable (values for money). We really enjoyed the cruise to ile aux Crefs on 09 Aug 2022. Raphael

We had an amazing 7 days with Catamaran Cruises. Priscilla was extremely helpful with organizing everything and answering all my questions. She was so lovely and greeted us like a friend, upon arrival! Philip, our captain, was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful! He was essential in making sure we had an itinerary that fit our group perfectly and took us to the spots he knew we would enjoy! Romain, our cook/steward, was incredible! The food was delicious- I preferred his cooking to any of the restaurants we tried in Mauritius! He was so helpful and attentive, always bringing you anything with a smile. You can tell both Philip & Romain both love what they do. It really shows in their hospitality and care! They truly spoiled us and I couldn't have asked for a better trip! Thank you again!
