Nestled in the charming town of Helen, Muller's Famous Fried Cheese Cafe is a cozy Alpine-style eatery renowned for its delectable fried cheese and authentic German and Czech cuisine. This family-owned restaurant offers a unique fusion of flavors, with highlights such as the mouthwatering fried brie and rich chocolate fudge cake.
This spot was recommended by one of the other businesses as a gluten free friendly option in town and they were right! A well marked menu gave me lots of options and everything looked so good! Our only complaint would be not the appetite to eat everything on the menu. The patio seating was perfect on a beautiful day, and pet friendly. Savannah took care of us and was friendly and the perfect blend of attentive but not overwhelming. She was thorough in checking on allergens for me. Prices were reasonable for a touristy area and we left with full bellies and a happy experience.

We had breakfast at Mueller’s Famous Fried Cheese in Helen, Georgia, and it was such a great experience! The service was excellent, the atmosphere was cozy and charming, and the food was delicious. We tried their famous fried cheese, which is a must-try in this area — and it was amazing! Everything we ordered was really tasty. I definitely recommend this place for breakfast if you’re visiting Helen.
Patricia B — Google review
Beautiful place with delicious food. We waited quite a while before we got our food, but it was worth it. I believe they made it fresh. We both had authentic German meals. Having lived in Germany for five years, I can tell you our food was as good as anything I had in Germany. Do yourself a favor and eat here.
James P — Google review
It was Octoberfest, so it was insanely busy, but everyone was doing their best to keep up. The food was very good. I got the ham and pork with fried cheese that was incredible. We had our dog with us and they were very accommodating.
CJ B — Google review
The food was amazing and the servers were very sweet. Our drinks stayed full and the food was out very fast. We got breakfast and enjoyed the German Schnitzel breakfast, Muller's pancakes, and the Ham and Cheese Omelet. The fruit was fresh and sweet and the bacon was cooked great. The sweet tea was very good and the views and atmosphere were pleasant.

We sat outside with our dog and they brought a bowl of dog water. The food and service both were magnificent. I can't wait to go back. FRIED CHEESE! YUMMY! Hubby had pancakes, yummy!
Regina E — Google review
Yes, yes, yes! If you are even considering this place, go! The food is fresh and the vibe is perfect for a diner in a busy city. It feels down home in the best possible way. I had the Jaeger Strussel and it was cooked to perfection. The little salad was slightly underwhelming - it wasn't a flavor I was craving walking into a German diner in Helen. However, everything else was amazing. I fully recommend this restaurant!
Michelle M — Google review
This was a great place to have breakfast. Very nice patio, the waitress we had was a doll…. But the food was something to be desired. I ordered just a 2 egg/ bacon/ potato and toast breakfast. The potatoes are 4.00 extra ( and weren’t good imo) and when I ordered I had asked what kinds of bread they had for toast and one of the options was rye so I picked that. I was upcharged another 1.00 for that without being told. My bacon was so overcooked we laughed that 2 of the 4 peices were inedible / rock hard and resembled a chicken bone or a pork rind ( see picture). I like crispy bacon but this was LOL. My husbands pancakes weee just basic pancakes. They were ok. Positive- a good large cup of coffee, waitress was really nice, nice patio.

Hofer's Bakery and Cafe is a charming German eatery and bakery located in an alpine-style space with a lovely patio. The establishment offers a genuine German experience, serving freshly baked bread, pastries, Wiener schnitzel, spaetzle, and other beloved German dishes year-round. Visitors can also enjoy the biergarten on weekends from May through early November or daily during Oktoberfest.
First I have to say is that the biscuits and gravy are so good. Loved it. We came with a party of seven and were happy with their meals. Our waitress in the flowered dress was so nice and patient during our order and very close to closing time. Next visit to Helen, this is our breakfast spots for sure. Of course we couldn’t leave without the kids wanting sweets. The bakery has delicious sweets and breads.

Worth the wait! The wait wasn’t bad and the food was amazing! From my many years visiting Helen this was my first time visiting this cafe and it was amazing! The food was delicious and we loved everything! Service was fast after the initial waiting for the table which wasn’t bad at all. It was morning, it was Sunday and it was breakfast time so your normal waiting time! The food came really fast and the staff were really attentive! We will definitely try to come back again when we visit!
Carlos R — Google review
There is a reason there is usually a wait list! The food is amazing. But let's talk about the bakery 🤗 the variety they offer is pleasing for the whole family, there is something for everyone. Even though there is a line, it goes fairly quickly with their amazing service. They have someone boxing the goodies while another member is waiting to check you out, the line goes smoothly. The shelves are loaded with authentic German goodies that are easy to travel with when visiting and my family was excited back home when I brought back some snacks. Highly recommend!

Amazing, outstanding, can't miss. Best Helen has to offer. We were on our way out of Helen today and wanted to try one last place. Boy, did this place deliver! The pastry case was filled with so many luscious options. Shiny, laminated pastries, decedent cakes, huge cookies... It was a delight for the eyes. Also, they have a whole selection of boxed and bagged German treats and groceries. They have a deli counter with a large selection of German meats, cheeses, and breads as well. The food was delectable! My husband and I got got the Reuben... Believe the hype! It should be famous. I got spatzel soup, which was great... Pretty much chicken noodle with spatzel in place of the typical flat noodles. The star on the plate was the pretzel roll with the BUTTER!! My husband says he can't tell a difference, but MY taste buds were singing with the flavor of the butter lol .. I could distinguish another special about it via the wrapper, but just trust. It was amazing. We finished with the Apple Strudel, which we hoped to have a la mode, but they were out of ice cream.. so sad😭. Regardless, it was super tasty. There were minced up apples and apple chunks which lent beautiful texture to the dish. It was exactly as sweet as a dessert should be, which is to say sweet, but not cloying in the slightest. The whipped topping it came with have it the perfect little something extra. This place hit on all accounts. Fast, friendly service, outstanding food, variety, the works. I'm delighted we stopped in and we'll be heavily suggesting the place to our families, as well.

Best German food! According to their website, lunch starts around 11:30AM, but when I visited, they actually began serving closer to 12PM. The restaurant fills up instantly since the dining area is very small. Servers are kind and attentive, and the food is great overall. A couple of small downsides: sodas are $5, which feels a bit pricey, and the dishes were served warm rather than hot.
Kelly L — Google review
I thought hard about this rating because the Apple danish I ate was great! Fresh crisp and full of flavor. However, the Apple strudel was cold and doughy Not Good at all and a huge disappointment. The staff were not very helpful or friendly.
Susan R — Google review
It was an hour wait but it was such a popular spot - small restaurant dining area with short staff so please be patient. It’s worth it. Great service - servers did not let us run out of coffee (the German coffee is delish!). My corned beef hash breakfast was yummy and I also enjoyed the German Chocolate Cake.

⭐️⭐️ 2/5 — Just meh 🫤 We visited Hofer’s Bakery and Café during Oktoberfest to try something different. The food was… meh. None of us really loved it, and a couple of us honestly didn’t like it at all. The flavors on my plate were confusing — not bad, just not good either. The biggest issue was the service and system. It was slow and poorly organized. They waited until nearly half the restaurant was empty before cleaning tables, even with a line out the door. With a few small adjustments, the place could run so much smoother — like pre-rolling silverware instead of doing it after every table. Overall, everything was fine, but not something I’d go out of my way for again. Just meh.🫤

Restaurant
Bodensee Restaurant, located in Helen, Georgia, draws inspiration from the beauty of Bavaria's Bodensee Lake. The restaurant offers a down-to-earth dining experience with traditional German dishes served in an alpine-inspired setting. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the menu features culinary specialties such as Weiner Schnitzel and the Haus Platter with knockwurst, homemade garlic wurst, and smoked pork chop.
The Pretzel was fresh, hot and delicious, I loved the two sides it came with (Beer Cheese & Apple-Mustard sauce). The Sauerkraut was fantastic like nothing else I ever tried before. Our server “Grace” was helpful and friendly, she gave an excellent service.

First time trying German food and it was a great experience. Great food, great service, and cool vibes all around. We got the potato pancakes, Brie with vegetables, goulash, and Pork schnitzel. Taste was very delicious but the schitnzel and pancakes were slightly dry for me but still very good. Would come back again.

The good thing was the food, but we had to do some struggle before getting to it. Line outside was long, but moved quickly (I feel it could move even faster if staff was managing job better) We got a very nice table, and sat there for about 10 min - no menu or water was provided. Asked passing waiter to give us a menu. Then another 10-15 min passed by and no one came. The waiter who gave a menu, started literally ignoring us. I went back to hostess desk asking to find out server, and turns out that the lady who was responsible for our table, thought that someone else is.... But she was serving tables near us, as well as the one who gave us menus. I think it's just weird, that both of them ignores the fact that we are sitting without the service, and didn't question "whose table this is". After we finally ordered, food arrived in 45 min. Which is okay, because it was cooked well, and fresh. But total time between we got at the table and started the meal was over 80 min.Since we were hungry, and all other places had long lines as well, we decided to wait until the end, lol. Idk if I ever want to go back, probably during slower time.

The food here is SO good! It's comforting and so filling. We tried the pretzel, potato pancakes, goulash soup, and sourbraten. Apple strudel for dessert. 10/10 for everything, and wish I lived closer so I could visit again soon. Our server was very kind and friendly! I believe her name was Heather - she was on the beer garden side and wearing black cat/moon earrings. Thanks so much for being so welcoming :)

👍 French onion soup. Perfect, not overly salty, nice amount of cheese, and a light char on the top was awesome. Smoked pork chop.moist, tender, lightly smoked Sauerkraut was ok, warm. 👎 Potato salad side was only offered cold, and " of" it was swapped out for spatzel the up charge was $3.oo . The Gypsy gravy has good flavor, but over powers the flavors of the perfectly smoked pork chop.
JD B — Google review
Our waitress was a pleasure! The food was different from years prior but still good. We would have liked to have sat inside but were rushed to a wobbly table outside. Our waitress was really good and accommodating and we loved her German accent!

My wife and I eat here for our anniversary and I can’t put the experience into words! The food was absolutely amazing and 100% the best German restaurant in town(I’ve been coming to Helen since 2004). Super authentic as the chef Aurel came out to ask how our meal was and spoke to us for around 20-30 minutes. Makes my wife and I who also cook very happy to see someone take such pride in their preparation. If you don’t try this place when in Helen you are missing out for sure! Thank you again Bodensee for such a great time!!!!!

Nestled beneath a bridge by the Chattahoochee River, The Troll Tavern offers a casual and scenic dining experience. This riverfront pub is renowned for its German-inspired menu, featuring dishes like Bavarian Pretzel and Bratwurst Burger. Guests can savor an array of flavorful selections including nachos, wraps, seafood, and steak while enjoying picturesque views of the river from the outdoor patio.
Our food was amazing. Drinks even more so. Service was impeccable!!! Our waiter was body very patient and knowledgeable about the menu. Will definitely have to come back. We got the goblin burger, chicken fingers as well as the German Chocolate martini. . . Made with one of the best coconut rums I've ever tasted. The bar tender was great! Definitely a must eat place when visiting Helen.

It was pretty nice. I sat outside next to the water by the bridge which was really nice after a long day of walking around town. Beer selection was good. The fries appetizer was really good. I got the entree where you get the cutlet and 2 sausages, which is a $30 meal which is a lot for me, but it was a lot of food. The meal itself was alright. I’m not huge on German food but if you are, then you’ll like it.
Nate W — Google review
★★★★★ We had a great time at Troll Tavern. The location next to the river is fantastic for a relaxed vibe. The service was friendly and efficient from the moment we walked in. We tried Paulaner Oktoberfest and the strawberry cocktail for drinks—both were excellent. The kohlwurst was delicious and really authentic. The Reuben was one of the best my wife has had. Overall, would definitely recommend coming back for lunch and drinks.
Nick T — Google review
If you want to enjoy anything from a crispy burger with fries to a delicious salmon, this is a great spot. The view is incredible, right by the river, and pairs perfectly with a good beer. I would have given 5 stars, but the way they call guests to be seated is not ideal. The hosts have to shout names from outside the restaurant, and with all the noise from people passing by the river, it can be hard to hear—there’s no modern system to notify diners, so it’s easy to miss your turn. Despite this, the food and atmosphere make it worth a visit.
Erika L — Google review
We stopped into the Troll Tavern for lunch during Oktoberfest. We didn’t have to wait to be seated. We enjoyed our seat outside on the patio by the water. Drinks were good, food was delicious. The Reuben was hot and juicy! The perfect amount of food! Service was a little slower than to be desired but we were in no rush. Overall good experience and would come back.

This is a must eat at when visiting Helen. The venue has indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit outside by the river to watch the tubers float by and it was very enjoyable. Our server was very friendly and attentive. He answered all our questions throughly abd checked on us during our dine in to make sure everything was exceptional. The portions are very generous and we all took half of our plates back to the room with us. From the appetizers to the main course was absolutely delicious! Authentic German dining that anyone who is visiting should experience!
Kristina L — Google review
We came on a Sunday evening of Oktoberfest. We didn’t have to wait long, but it took over an hour for our food to be done, and the restaurant was thinned out by then. But the waiter and food was great. Rueben was excellent, chipped corned beef, and horse made thousand Island!!! No complaints on the food. Bathrooms were clean. A great stop.
Jessica P — Google review
Wasn't sure where to go. We ended up at The Troll Tavern. Couldn't find it at first, had to call to find out where they were, once we got there we sat outside. Waitress was very polite and pleasant. The atmosphere out there with the running water was very nice. Husband ordered the trout rice in a salad and I got the grilled salmon rice and a salad, the food was seasoned very nicely. We had a good time.

Hofbrauhaus Restaurant is a Bavarian-style eatery located by the Chattahoochee River, offering traditional German dishes and imported beers. The restaurant is designed after the famous Hofbrauhaus in Munich, Germany, and aims to bring authentic flavors popular in Germany to its patrons. With outdoor seating by the river, diners can enjoy an idyllic view while savoring traditional German dishes and beers.
Absolutely 100% without a doubt a must do. Best damn pretzel of my life. Cold beer. And we ordered the roasted and fried pork which is big enough for a family of 6…. Highly recommend splitting it with your neighbor you’ve never met. Sat at the first bar inside, amazing service. Delicious food. Cold beer. What else could you ask for?!

A stop in Helen GA for Octoberfest. Our first stop for food was here, and it was amazing. First, shout out to our server Miranada, who added the extra details that some servers miss. The staff overall were great, but during this festival I expected everyone in lederhosen or dirndl. It was only half the staff. We ordered small pretzel "flown" in from Munich. Perfect and so soft inside. Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich and Open Face Prime Rib Sandwich. Both were great options. I actually expected sliced prime rib, but it was one piece. Still very tasty! Almost forgot, we ate outside on this beautiful evening, half the tables full at 6pm Wednesday. Live guitar artist playing great music. Overall great time. I bet weekends are busy during this time. Please give me a heart if you found this review helpful.

Our 1st time in Helen, visiting to check out the town for Oktoberfest. Our meals at the Hofbrauhaus were by far the best we had the entire weekend. The food came out fast, hot, and tasty. The portions were generous and the beer was cold, can’t ask for much more than that! We enjoyed sitting both inside with a view of the river and outside to enjoy the live festive music. The blackberry bourbon smash was also great! You can definitely split the apple strudel. Would absolutely recommend eating here and we look forward to a return trip.

We are in Helen, GA, wanting to eat at a famous and authentic German restaurant for the experience. 😄 Due to the long wait for indoor seating, we chose to eat outdoor which have no wait. It is right by the creek with beautiful scenery, however, it did get a bit cold towards the end of our meal. We had a large order of Pretzels with cheese sauce, as well as Potatoe Pancake as recommended by the waiter as an authentic appetizer. Including the cheese platter (Hofbrauhaus Brotzeit Teller), they all tasted very yummy! For the meals, we had "Open Faced Prime Rib", "Hofbrau Hoagie" and "Schweinbraten" as well as the "Goulash". They are all pretty good although a few dishes are on the salty side of our preference. Overall, we enjoyed the dinner and the atmosphere, as well as our server (Elijah) very much! Thank you!

★★★★★ So good we had to come twice. We had an amazing meal at Hofbrauhaus. The jagerschnitzel was superb—crispy, tender, and packed with flavor. The fried potato pancakes were a standout too, perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside. The apple strudel was amazing, and there’s plenty of food to share—two people could easily split a hearty dinner. This felt like the most authentic German restaurant I’ve been to in the US. The beer was fresh and transported us straight to Bavaria. The location by the river is scenic and really adds to the ambiance. Highly recommended for a genuinely Bavarian experience. We came back the next day just to sit in the beer garden and have some drinks and apps.

Went for Oktoberfest and the festivities are everything. All the servers dress up and it’s lively and there was music too. Food is alright, bit expensive and doesn’t taste amazing. I have discovered the wonders of dipping pickles into cheese. Meats were very good though!! The lager was great

A few years back I traveled to Germany (Bavaria), recently I've been wanting an authentic German meal like I had there, we tried Hofbrauhaus on a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious and extremely close to what I remember having there in Germany, although I think the red cabbage (Blaukraut) is better here, in Germany they don't do much with the flavors it's basically red sauerkraut. The atmosphere hit just right as well, hearing the music inside with the occasional Ein prosit playing was very reminiscent of Oktoberfest in Munich. I can't wait to come back in the future.

Wow. Great food, great service (Kinsey), great environment. We both got a schnitzel (me the Weiner schnitzel and my wife the Jaegar schnitzel), for dessert I got the German chocolate cake and her the apple strudel). Very well run and I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a trip to Helen, GA.

The Old Bavaria Inn Restaurant is a charming establishment located in the heart of Alpine Helen, offering an authentic taste of German cuisine. Visitors can also enjoy a wide selection of imported beers and wines while taking in the festive atmosphere.
This restaurant is a must try! My wife and I had the Ruben and it was amazing and the German chocolate is very rich so splitting it would be a good idea. Everything is made to order so it's nice and fresh. The atmosphere is amazing to feel and to look at the decor that is rooted deep with Bavarian culture is very cool to look at. Will definitely come back again!

After arriving in town I went in search of dinner, preferably German food. This was open until 9pm so I went at 7pm to avoid the last minute rush. Easy to find with a parking lot across the street. Friendly service. I was quickly seated and my waitress, Sharon, suggested some items on the menu. Service was fast and my waitress attentive. I'll be back for more of their delicious food.

Homemade red cabbage, what more needs to be said! Go early, because once this small, intimate restaurant starts running low, they close the door. But if you're lucky enough to get in, you'll find a polite and humorous waiter well versed in the beer and food offerings, and willing to assist those with questions. Everything we tasted was amazing, but with each bite we understood what we were eating was homemade by hands that love the food and care what the customers think. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

This place was great! they were quick with our food and kind! our pretzel was top notch and the house made cheese that goes with it was fantastic! they recommended we try the lindemens beer, it’s from belgium and we tried the raspberry and the peach flavors. they were a 10/10, you gotta try this place!

We were skeptical about this restaurant after reading some of the negative reviews however our experience was exceptional. I usually don't leave reviews but felt compelled. We were coming to Helen to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday and we called earlier in the day to make some arrangements to make his birthday extra special. We spoke to the owner, who was very professional and courteous. He prepared a black forest cake complete with the candles and everything special just for us. Our food arrived on time. The food was delicious, even our picky kids enjoyed it. After dinner. They brought out the cake, candles and lit the candles for my father-in-law so we could celebrate his birthday. It was the the perfect way to celebrate the birthday of such an amazing person. He is the only father I've ever known so I'm so grateful that we could celebrate with him in such a special way and the staff at this restaurant helped to make it happen. A job well done.

Happened upon this little hidden gem on our recent trip 10/31/25, Robbie greeted us and sat us quickly. Offered beer suggestions and he was right on the money. The husband had the German Sub with thepotatopancake, I had a cup of the Gholoush. Which all the food was amazing, Robbie provided top notch service! Will definitely visit again next time we are in Helen GA

German restaurant
The Heidelberg is a charming German restaurant located in Helen, Georgia, designed to resemble a Bavarian Alpine village. The restaurant offers an authentic German dining experience with traditional dishes like schnitzel and goulash, as well as a selection of great beers to enjoy in the patio or beer garden. In addition to The Heidelberg, there are several other eateries in Helen where visitors can savor German cuisine such as strudel and more.
Excellent food and wonderful atmosphere, true German experience, and cuisine. There is seating inside and outside. Many choices of delicious entrees to choose from. They have 2 musicians playing and singing while walking around to bring in some wonderful German music. Very good beer and adult beverages are available and pair excellent with your meal. Wonderful experience and very worth the visit! Very friendly staff and great service!

The restaurant is nestled in the small but scenic town of Helen, GA. I have been to this establishment multiple times over the past two years. The quality of the food is quite good, especially the Schnitzel. The portions are large, and most people will need a box for leftovers. The service is consistent. The atmosphere/ambiance is average, but you don’t go there for that anyway. The wait time can vary, depending on time of day, but usually not more than 15-20 minutes. The prices are reasonable.
Evan L — Google review
Started out with a pretzel with “beer cheese” that was extremely runny and very sad. The pretzel itself was ok. Regarding the entree, the potatoe salad was not doing it and the sauerkraut and bratwurst was just good enough to eat most of it but that’s mainly thanks to the mustard. Our waitress was pretty short and disinterested. The place felt stuffy and there was persistent smell of weed. To put it simply, not worth it. For the price, wait for the table, and quality, I feel like it’s time wasted. I wouldn’t recommend unless you’re okay with mid German food.
Maritza — Google review
1st time visit. We ordered the pretzel with beer cheese and the Wurst Platter which had three different sausages. The pretzel came with melted butter to dip it in which made it feel like I was eating crab Legs, it was weird. The beer cheese was very runny, more like cheese milk but it was still very good with the pretzel. The pret,el was so soft and delicious. The sausage player was a great variety and really good. Our sides were the German potato salad which was def different. It was warm, ad onions, bacon and vinegar. We did like it. We also had the steamed veggies and mash potatoes which were both very good. Also had a few beers and their our apple liquor drink. Loved it. I would eat here again. The line to get in is in a stairwell and awkward.

Went out with my family for my birthday dinner, was so excited. First issue was we got no silverware, waitress was not very welcoming, glassware was clearly dirty, hair in appetizers as well being cold. When I brought attention to the fact there was hair in it she was snappy as well as her remark of "yea I overheard" stated she would figure it out and then never came back to the table until we had grabbed someone else to tell them our ENTIRE meals were cold, mashed potatoes were the warmest thing of the meal and they were barely room temp. Staff proceeded to give us attitude the entire time as well as while clearing off the table. Overall extremely shitty service as well as staffs attitudes. It was an overall embarrassing experience.
Cameron L — Google review
Overall, our dinner at the Heidelberg was good. The exterior of the restaurant looks just like a Bavarian town. Unfortunately, the interior is looking quite rundown and in need of a refresh. The food was good, came out hot and pretty quickly. We did order as soon as we sat down since there were quite a few groups of people who looked to have been waiting for a while. The schnitzel was our favorite part. Based on all things we’d likely come back.
Amelia T — Google review
I read somewhere this is the most photographed building in Helen so of course we had to visit! It’s so cute outside and the inside looks like a little speakeasy with accordion players! The food was great! Service was a little slow, but they were friendly and everything was fresh and good!
Brandie A — Google review
When visiting Helen, I wanted to experience Germany even in the food. The Heidelberg did not disappoint! My food was pleasantly different and I have no complaints. Thank you for the German experience! Also, it’s beautiful on the outside and thought it was cool the restaurant was upstairs.

The full-service deli custom-makes a variety of sandwiches perfect for a mid-hike picnic. Additionally, the store offers locally-sourced wine, homemade country food like Chicken Pot Pie, firewood, and fresh produce.
Such a cute little store with so much character! Love the sandwiches. The quiche I got from them was absolutely incredible and the Rueben was one of the best I’ve had…woofed that so quick I didn’t take a picture. Sub was awesome as well. Don’t skip the cakes. The banana pudding cake and the peanut butter pie we got was phenomenal 😋

What a cute grocery store with TONS of German beer selection! They even have a bar outside that serves breakfast and lunch. We are first timers to Helen, GA and just knew we had to stop in. We had their ham biscuits for breakfast that were amazing! A must stop if visiting Helen!!

This is as close to a country store as I have been in a long time. They have a little bit of everything and a lot of some things with a good selection of most things. A great place to visit and you will probably find something you will want. We purchased, honey, check out the live bee hive (behind glass), smoked pork chops, out of the meat market, spices to mix with oil and eat with bread (available), blueberry wine, tart cherry juice, dark cherry juice, Divinity candy, and a caramel popcorn ball. After my husband finished shopping he sat outside to wait on me and drank a beer while listening to live music that was very good.

We stop in here every time we visit Helen. We do our grocery shopping in the country store, then visit the porch for food and drinks! The staff is always super friendly, the beer selection is phenomenal, and the food is really good too! Added bonus, they are on Untapped! If you track your beers like we do, you can track your beer selection here then see your post on the TV in front of the bar!

A must see place in Helen Ga. Limited but free parking. This store has an awesome variety of groceries, souvenirs, and home made deserts, pastries and coffees. Great beer and wine selections and breakfast served daily! Too many locally made jams, jellies, sauces and relishes. You will be impressed with this iconic store!

Lots of selection for a quick meal or picnic. Staff was super friendly. Large selection of wines and beer including German Beer. Some vintage candy selection. Moon pie and RC Cola! Great place for things you forgot at home.

Wander, snack, get liquered up; Betty's won't judge. Need a gallon of pickled eggs? Betty's gotchu. Need high quality butchered ribeye? Betty's gotchu. Need to sit glass-eyed at the bar throwing back whiskey and silently judging others? Betty's gotchu. Wanna listen to the best buskers in Georgia? Yeah, they're at Betty's. Every grocery store in America should be like Betty's. It's weird, eclectic, yummy, homegrown shenanigans.

Beer garden
King Ludwig Biergarten is a lively spot in the heart of Helen, GA, offering an authentic German beer garden experience. The outdoor space features picnic tables where guests can enjoy Bavarian cuisine and a wide selection of German beers. The festive atmosphere, complete with live music on some evenings, adds to the charm. During Oktoberfest, the scene becomes even more vibrant with musicians entertaining the crowds as servers deliver steins of beer and light bites to the courtyard picnic tables.
Atmosphere was fun with live entertainment and the gentleman that was singing and playing the guitar was very good. My family all had bratwurst plate with sauerkraut and potatoes. Food came out fast and was very delicious I would definitely recommend for anyone in town looking for a quick bite
Mike M — Google review
Great place with live music and good drinks. BUT be advised the Automatically place a at least 20% gratuity and the don’t tell you and the notice on the menu isn’t that easy to see. Love the place but disappointed!
Bert N — Google review
BE VERY CAREFUL with this place. Oktoberfest is always fun in Helen! I have always enjoyed this place for few years, and always recommended them. But this past experience wasn't a good one. I bought 2 beers refills, 1 beer with mug, and 5 sausages. I remember seeing in the card machine around low $80s, and I was never prompted for tip on the card machine. They didn't give me a receipt, and I left some cash as tip (as I always do). Next day, I see a charge of $96 on my card. The only explanation I have is that they added 20% tip without my consent. I did not see any sign nowhere in the establishment saying that they charge 20% on everything. If you are owner of this business, please check what they are doing on the outside bar. If you are the owner of this place, and you know this is going on, please stop it. Don't loose the trust of your customers. If this happened to you too, please don't stay silent.
Abdel B — Google review
Stay away during Oktoberfest!!!! The bartender thought I was drunk so when I ordered a beer and a Jagermeister she gave herself a fat tip. I didn’t realize until I tapped to pay and saw the total. When I asked her about it she mumbled something about charges for the cup and “auto gratuities.” When I watched the next three transactions for my friends she selected 20% gratuities for herself, but not the giant one she charged me. Who selects their own tip???
Richard C — Google review
Bartender didn't even look up when we got to her after waiting in line for 15 mins. She was going over something with a waitress and never acknowledged us. Stood there for way too long, finally left and went to another line... quick service from that bartender. Overpriced beer, though... was charged $2 more than posted. Since I paid cash, I didn't get a receipt. After reading comments here, I see auto gratuity is added, which is fine, but i didn't see that posted in line at the bar. If you're going to charge tips automatically, take the tip jars down. I gave a tip there, not knowing i had already been charged a tip. It was right before 9pm when we got there and the singer went on break for 30 mins. We waited, because we love listening to him. He didn't play long when he came back, but that's understood as he's there all day long. We'll get there earlier next time.
Lisa B — Google review
Really wanted to enjoy a delicious Bavarian pretzel with beer cheese and mustard - really a big miss here. It wasn't even warm, the beer cheese tastes canned. Look elsewhere if you want a good pretzel in Helen.

Pretty cool little German town in Helen GA! They have a mountain roller coaster that you need to try... we also did a love lock, but I'm not sure I would waste your money on that as the city cuts the lock and throws it away once a week. So it is not there forever like it used to be... dissappointing.

Valhalla Resort and Golf in Innsbruck is a strategically located championship 18-hole golf course set against the stunning backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The course is known for its challenging layout, natural beauty, and frequent elevation changes that demand control and cleverness from players. Additionally, the resort offers a wide range of activities such as tubing, shopping, fishing (with proper licensing), mini-golf, and even hosts the famous Octoberfest.
What a beautiful golf course! If you are in the North Georgia area and haven't played here, you should. Bring a few extra golf balls as this is a challenging course. The staff is very friendly and they have a great clubhouse!
Greg R — Google review
Beautiful course lots of nature. Very difficult narrow fairways. Lost almost all my balls lol. Was disappointed to see the houses starting to get built on this pristine nature. One house was literally 5 ft off the green with tacky yard signs.
No W — Google review
Honestly the fairways and greens were a mess. The greens especially so. Crabgrass all over the place even on the greens. Many greens have areas of multiple square feet that are more or less dirt. You can see that it Could be amazing and they get an extra star for the old guy in the pro shop and some of the views. Also the gps on the carts malfunctions a lot so you end up having to back up at 1mph for, in one case, 100 yards before it would realize we were not off the cart path and let us go forward. I am adding a pic from one of the tee boxes on the back just so you see that it CAN be pretty but the condition of that tee box is about what you see all over the course.
BOB H — Google review
The layout is challenging. The views were inspiring. The course was smoked. Seems lots of places have struggled with their turf this season. 5-stars for being able to 100% solo with no one else ar I understand.
Matthew H — Google review
This course is in awful shape. The $55 rate charged for 18 holes of golf is ridiculous, especially with the state of the course. The service at the course is good, but there is definitely room to improve the condition.
Jay M — Google review
Excellent golf destination in a quiet mountain town. Greens in good shape for fall golf
Jeremy A — Google review
I usually don’t leave reviews but this was necessary. It’s very unfortunate because the nature around the course made it so beautiful. The fairways were incredibly tight and you would hope that you’d be rewarded by pretty greens. Nope the greens looked like goat patches. While rolling it kept bouncing up due to the crab grass all throughout the green. Honestly I couldn’t tell where the fairway ended and the greens started. The sand traps were quite literally just dirt (got bitten by ants when I was in the trap at hole 2). It had some beautiful scenery so it was upsetting playing on a course that was so horribly managed. I would pay extra to go literally anywhere else. Please owner/management if you see this please make this course beautiful. It has such amazing potential.

Paul's Steakhouse, a beloved establishment since 1965, offers a laid-back riverside setting with live music on weekends. The restaurant provides a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy refreshing beers, wine, and cocktails alongside delectable dishes like blue crab cakes, jalapeno poppers, oysters, ribeye steak, filet mignon, fried chicken, and rainbow trout.
We recently had the pleasure of dining at Paul’s Steakhouses, and let me tell you, their Fried Chicken Livers and Baby Back Ribs are absolutely to die for. First, the Fried Chicken Livers—WOW. I’m not usually one to rave about chicken livers, but these were something else. Crispy on the outside, perfectly tender on the inside, and seasoned just right. Every bite was rich and flavorful, and the dipping sauce they serve with it takes it to a whole new level. Seriously, I couldn’t get enough of them! And then, the Baby Back Ribs—I don’t think I’ve ever had ribs so tender in my life. The meat just fell off the bone, and the glaze was perfectly balanced, not too sweet, not too tangy, just perfect. The portion was huge, so We left the restaurant completely stuffed but incredibly happy. I’ve been to plenty of steakhouses before, but Paul’s really knocked it out of the park with these dishes. If you’re ever in the area, don’t miss out—those livers and ribs alone are worth the visit!

(Review based on service and order of wings only!) We made a visit to Helen and ate here! Shannon assisted all of us during our visit and she didn’t disappoint! Be prepared to pay a bit because of the obvious: location, steakhouse, scene, etc. I would go back to this establishment again for sure. Their prices weren’t “rip your heart out” type of prices but a little gut check. The serving sizes are spot on though, in my opinion. The hospitality here was great here as well! I was surprised. You must get their wings! Tell Shannon I sent you and that want the Jerk wings and/or the Lemmon pepper/mild wings. She will make sure you’re taken care of! Skip the fries and order another batch of wings and you’ll be happy in you did. Go see Shannon!! Show them a picture of the wings I posted and tell Shannon you want your wings just like those in the pic. Come back and emoji this post if you enjoyed them! I’m curious of how many will enjoy the wings.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My husband and I had an amazing dinner here last night! The atmosphere was perfect, and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier. He had the steak, I had the steamed oysters, and we shared the jalapeño poppers — everything was absolutely delicious. The bartender was incredible, and the chef and manager made us feel so welcome. Truly one of the best dining experiences we’ve had — we’ll definitely be back!!!
Kay M — Google review
I was looking for a place that had prime rib. We found Paul’s and I ordered the prime rib with baked potato, salad and lobster bisque, the wife had country fried steak with gravy and baked potato. The food was great we had no issues. The server was excellent. It was worth the trip. We highly recommend.
StopAndLive — Google review
Food was good but I wouldn't say great. With these types of meals you would expect to get dinner rolls or bread. She brought the check without asking us if we cared for dessert, they had key lime pie so we asked for that. The pie would have been amazing had the crust been crunchy instead of soft and mushy. Not saying the experience was bad, it was good, just not great.
Jane B — Google review
⭐ 1 star Never again! I ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp, Fresh Salmon, and Chicken Wings — everything was awful. The shrimp came out cold, not even warm, and tasted like it had been sitting for a while, looks like shrimp balls. The chicken wings were also cold and completely flavorless — no salt, no pepper, nothing. The shrimp was honestly the worst part of the meal. I figured the side salad would at least be good, but it was way too salty and just as disappointing. Nothing tasted fresh or properly seasoned. Suggestion: Never ever visit this place — easily the worst meal I’ve had in Helen!
TheSnapReel ( — Google review
Our server last night was really good. Super attentive. We came after a long wait elsewhere so decided to give Paul’s a try. The fried shrimp was PHENOMENAL! Got a pound for two to share salad and fries as side and it was plenty. The ribeye was decent but was certainly outshined by the fried shrimp
Mia — Google review
Not the greatest steak in town at all ! Ordered prime rib cooked medium and it was well done. Served never came back to ask how good was. Had to get another server to help. My wife’s filet was full of gristle and was not even filet, was not offered any other meat or replacement. When server came and took food away from my wife he didn’t even ask , he just said they were gonna take it off the bill - again , not great service and not great steak. I’ve attached a picture of the prime rib. We likely won’t be back for another meal.

Windmill Dutch Imports is a charming shop located in King Ludwig's Square, offering a delightful selection of souvenirs straight from Amsterdam. With over 30 years in business, this store imports everything directly from Holland, including ceramics, wooden shoes, Dutch food, and collectible items. Visitors can find traditional favorites like chocolate sprinkles and zoute licorice alongside beautiful white and blue figurines and plates.
This shop is so cute and is full of beautiful delftware (quintessential blue and white ceramic of the Netherlands). I’m definitely coming back to shop when I have a place to decorate. I hope these are true delftware and not just delftware-inspired pieces. I picked one up and saw that it says it’s hand painted in Holland; it contains a factory mark and artist initials too. Great place to shop for gifts or for yourself!

June 14, 2025. One of a couple of stores that is actually selling authentic food and gifts from Europe(Dutch/German). This was one of our favorite stores in the entire town of Helen,Georgia. The ladies working there were very helpful and answered all of our questions. I highly recommend stopping in and checking this store out.

This is a really unique shop! There are all kinds of windmills for sale. Some are ceramic and some are wooden. They also sell slippers that look like Dutch wooden shoes. There is a whole section of imported German groceries. They have everything from coffees and drinks to chocolates and snacks.

I'm not exactly sure what a Dutch shop is doing in the middle of a faux-Bavarian town, but it works and I love it! It's definitely on the more authentic side of shops here. There is delft galore, tiny pieces and huge, real wooden shoes, soft "wooden shoe" slippers which I thought were super cute, and a whole room of European foods and sweets. The little wooden tulips are cool and it's a great place to pick up a Christmas ornament. My niece walked out with a keychain with two tiny wooden shoes on it that was crazy cute.
