Museum
Specialty Museums
The Historical Museum of the Palatinate, also known as Historisches Museum der Pfalz, is a significant attraction in Speyer. It features permanent historic displays and hosts temporary exhibitions along with dedicated children's showcases. Situated close to the cathedral, this museum offers five permanent collections covering Prehistory, Roman Times, Cathedral Treasury, Modern Era, and the Wine Museum.
This place usually has very interesting exhibitions on various topics. Often big global exhibitions (like Titanic) stop over and they make them very enjoyable. A good mix of education and entertainment, consumable for families. Always hands-on games for kids, making the experience for them enjoyable. In summer it’s air-conditioned and a good escape from the heat and of course always a good option for the rainy days. Parking is just a little walk away, with very affordable price.
Thomas W — Google review
No permanent exhibition! You pay through the nose (17 Euro!) to see some temporary exhibitions, which are 'meh' at best. I have travelled to Speyer especially to see the famous prehistoric gold hat. NOT ON DISPLAY! Save your time and money.
Dorota B — Google review
Went for Ceasar and Cleopatra exhibition. What a waste of time. Not only it was only in German (you should have made it clear from the start!), it was also extremely chaotic. They offered a free app for English speakers - it contained no audio (unlike the German version) and offered less than 10% of the actual exhibition. Simply speaking, don’t try to play an international museum if you cannot even do such a simple thing as translation. Waste of money and time.
Piotr K — Google review
We visited Playmobil part. It is fine and enjoyable. However, they did not let even a small bottle of water for our child, and they charge 3.50€ for 0,25 liter of water inside. They should also employ one more person at the café. Noone can serve, work as a cachier, make coffee and clean the tables at the same time - within reasonable limits.
Feridun O — Google review
Nice collection and exposition on the history of the region. The only downside is that German is the only language that accompanies the descriptions. English would be a great plus in promotion of the land.
Polina K — Google review
We went to see the "Caesar and Cleopatra" exhibition, which proved highly recommendable! Prices are ... well, okay. Not a bargain.
M. F — Google review
An interesting museum telling you the history of the area. Many artefacts on display and as long as you can read German you will be ok.
Darren F — Google review
A really nice museum with a lot of interesting pieces of roman history. But the special exhibitions, like the recent Titanic event, are really great. Always something very special. The restaurant inside under a glass roof is an island for relaxing. They have some special vegan dishes and the prices are okay. There is normally enough place. On special evenings there is even live-music. It also parts the regular museum and the building for the special exhibitions. Nicely done and a good idea. It might be a place to show you old stuff, but the museum is modern and amazing.

Technik Museum Speyer, situated in Speyer, Germany, is a renowned destination for enthusiasts of transportation and technology. The museum showcases an extensive array of exhibits including vintage cars, aircraft, spacecraft like the Space Shuttle Buran, submarines, fire engines, motorcycles and bicycles. Visitors can also explore a Jumbo Jet and an IMAX dome cinema. The museum offers interactive experiences allowing visitors to climb inside various machines such as airplanes, space shuttles, boats and trains.
It was a fantastic visit for me and my som. There is a big variety of vehicles from historical to date including prototypes. Additionally there is a space part that can be visited to see demos of spacecrafts. Airplanes were also amazing. I think at least 3 hours is needed to see all the rooms. One can also have an experience how to work of engines. There are parts for children to enjoy.
Gokhan Y — Google review
Incredible experience! It went way beyond my expectations. I didn’t think there would be this much to see. My main reason for going was the Buran and Apollo exhibits, but I ended up really enjoying the other sections too. There are dozens of cars, motorcycles, and airplanes on display. You also get to see flown items from Apollo, Gemini, Shuttle, and ISS missions. Capsule parachutes, Shuttle parts, astronaut gear, and even a Moon rock from Apollo 15… Such an amazing collection. The Lunar Module looks almost exactly like the real thing, and the lunar suits are just as impressive. Absolutely a must-visit!
Ozan D — Google review
What can I say as an american?I walked into this museum and I seen the biggest space shuttle.I ever seen in my life and just blew it off like any other tourist would come to find out. It's russian.I was amazed the space displays. Were incredible. Not to mention all the other airplanes, the cars, the trucks the trains. This place has everything for the enthusiast.I seen multi million dollar cars.I seen multi million dollar airplanes.I've seen the average guy walking around.I've seen people that were loaded with cash and prestige walking around it is a beautiful museum. One of the best that i've ever been in.

Spent total of 8 hours in museum but not completed seeing everything. Worth visiting. Most impressive is the B747-200 with interior cutaway.

Just a great to go with family and friends today had Sci-fi as well. So Go to see everyone dressed up. Amazing place and food was great as well. Super place for kid's and there Dad's so many hig boy's toys
Steven K — Google review
Amazing display of land, water, air and space vehicles. I did not expect the huge collection of well-displayed artifacts that allowed up cloce inspection. The Lufthansa 747 is mounted high in the air, can be seen from a distance, and still allows interior visits. Worth a special trip.
Jim G — Google review
It may take more than a day or two to see all this museum has to offer. The wing walk is a must, dont forget to grab your carpet to slide down afterwards.
Michael S — Google review
An extremely well-curated museum that has a little something for everyone. We had an amazing tour guide who was clearly very passionate about the collection. Space, air, road, sea, plus a unique collection of musical machines.

Nestled just a stone's throw from Cathedral Square in Speyer, Germany, the Jewish Courtyard stands as a remarkable testament to the region's rich Jewish heritage. Dating back to the 11th century, it is recognized as the oldest preserved Jewish courtyard in Europe. Visitors can immerse themselves in its history by exploring various museums and exhibits that highlight the vibrant culture of Speyer’s once-thriving Jewish community.
There is a well preserved Jewish ritual bath, oldest on north of the Alps in Europe. Plus there is a variety of other Jewish artifacts and a museum. I highly recommend a visit.
Dmitriy A — Google review
Europe's oldest mikveh (ritual bath) uses groundwater that rises through Roman-era pipes. The medieval yeshiva's walls bear scratched Hebrew lessons from 1349. Time your visit for noon when sunlight hits the Holocaust memorial's glass blocks, projecting stars of David.
Arman K — Google review
We visited the Jüdenhof while in Speyer after spotting the sign and are so very glad we did. The historical significance of Speyer to Judaism was not known to me. This quiet area explained all of it so very well. The museum, the ruins and the ceremonial bath are not to be missed
Cathryne W — Google review
This is an outstanding site and a museum. The stunning mikveh, the remnants of a spacious synagogue show a sense of rootedness and cultural integration of the Jewish community in Speyer combined with its own Jewish identity. The artifacts in the museum are well described helping viewers understand the life of this lost community.

SEA LIFE Speyer, located in Speyer, Germany, is an aquarium offering a diverse range of marine life. Visitors can observe exotic sea creatures such as turtles, sharks, seahorses, jellyfish and penguins. The interactive touch pools and informative displays provide an educational and immersive experience for all ages. With play areas for kids and group packages available, it's a family-friendly destination. The aquarium features both fresh and salt-water tanks spread across two floors.
Beautiful place to learn about the marine world. The kids will absolutely enjoy it. The visit is well organized with an online ticket booking system and a slot based entry to avoid crowds. A huge variety of marine life can be seen here. Absolutely recommended to visit. It takes around 1.5 to 2 hours for the complete visit.

Nov24: LONG Review: heavily overpriced, too tiny place with few things to offer. It’s a very small aquarium/oceanarium that is very pricey for what it offers - 57€ tickets fee for 2 adults and 1 kid..it was very sad seeing how a big turtle stuck in aquarium and no one helped her. They offer some lectures about particular fish/animal, you can touch a starfish, see a few sharks and a turtle..you can also watch some shallow water aquarium with rays and reef sharks, glass is very scratched and dirty. Amazonian section has only 3-5 aquariums with piranhas a highlight. There is a sort of underwater tunnel..Fair price would have been 5-10€ per person max for this sort of a tour. They have dirty snack bistro, no options on healthy food..paid parking onsite 7€/day, or 4€/day parking on premises (if you turn right while driving towards aquarium and are lucky enough to get a parking lot). There is only one WC next to the shop and cafe, along the halls you have no toilet. We were done with the visit in 40 min. It could be suitable for kids up to 6 years old, but sorry not for that price. Not recommended to visit, please consider all the low star reviews.
Julia A — Google review
Lovely experience. I did find the habitats a bit Small, but I'm no fish specialist. Absolutely not traversable if you're in a wheelchair. Maybe if you go in the middle of the week and there is NO ONE there.
Z0ann — Google review
It is a very interesting place for children to visit and enjoy sea life. Also for adults who are really interested in under water life. I recommend it but only once since the ticket price is too high even for the children
Mohsen — Google review
So, disclaimer* we had 2 free adult tickets, only paid for our 3 kids (€40?). That being said, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here, but we did walk through the whole thing in under an hour. Now, our kids do tend to run to each exhibit as fast as the next (excitement). It really is what you make it, if we had spent over €70 for our family of 5, we may have lingered longer. It does seem a bit pricey for the size and exhibits, but, we have been to many aquariums and this (in our opinion) was one of the neatest atmospheres! The whole aquarium is just one big exciting exhibit in itself. Our kids absolutely loved it and we thoroughly enjoyed watching them! Also, many people commented regarding the food. We didn't eat but did look at the menu, we thought the prices were reasonable. However, we didn't eat, maybe the foods not good lol. We had a good time, it wasn't crowded at all, and the balcony where you can sit and eat if you wanted had lovely views! *side note* You should update your website for ticket purchases. When entering the billing address for cc info, there is no option for the US or even the UK. I was unable to purchase tickets online because of this. Just a recommendation if that can be fixed!
Ashley B — Google review
I was there yesterday, not too busy. Paid 19€ for entry, was done seeing everything in less than 1 hour. Nice but too small comparing to the entry fee, i agree with other comments its a bit disappointing for adults.
Aseel M — Google review
We went on a rainy Saturday and the place was crowded. If you have the chance get your tickets in advance and try to avoid the usual visiting times. The place itself was quite small but really well designed and family friendly. Plenty, of fish and even a little interactive area where you are allowed to touch some starfish. All in all a nice place to spend an hour and continue to visit Speyer.
Sel — Google review
It was good. Small space. Good collection of fishes. Washrooms for kids as well. Small eatery. But not worth 22euro per person.

Museum SchPIRA in Speyer is a highly recommended attraction that offers a comprehensive exploration of Jewish history spanning several centuries. The museum provides visitors with a wealth of information and exhibits, shedding light on the rich and lively past of the city. Notably, there is a captivating memorial dedicated to the local Jewish community. Furthermore, the museum showcases an impressive collection; however, it should be noted that English signage options are somewhat limited.

Avi K — Google review
(Translated by Google) A fairly small museum, but beautifully designed and absolutely worth seeing, especially because of the outdoor area. The price is reasonable, and the receptionist was very friendly. The two informational films about the synagogue and the bath were particularly great. The star deduction is for two reasons: First, the entire museum is a one-way street with doors that only open from one side. Once you're outside, you can't get back inside (e.g., to go to the restroom or the media room). Once you're in the media room, you can't get back into the museum either. Second, there were several group tours going on at the time we were there, and two of the guides were absolutely unfriendly to us "regular" visitors – we were yelled at or treated snippy on two occasions.

(Translated by Google) Because of the ranking (4.8) and the good reviews, I was really looking forward to my visit to the rustic wine bar, but unfortunately I was disappointed. The Viennese veal schnitzel I ordered didn't seem to be homemade. Unfortunately, the quality did not meet my expectations - the shape and breading of the meat looked like a finished product. The breading was soft and not crispy and stuck to the meat, which I didn't expect given the price of €26. The fried potatoes were also a disappointment. Instead of being crispy and golden brown, they were drowned in oil and therefore completely soggy. Unfortunately, this made the entire dish very difficult and unpleasant. The Rösti that came with the mushroom ragout also seemed more like convenience food. Given the high rating, I was hoping for a lot more. Maybe I was just unlucky, but the experience didn't live up to my expectations. Positive: you can sit in the idyllic garden when the weather is good.

Such a beautiful town, about one hour an a half (depending on traffic) drive from Frankfurt. It's not that popular to tourists and we wouldn't have visited either without a purpose.. however it's a diamond! Very picturesque, the old town is filled with narrow streets where you can stroll around and then, walk down to the river (or to the "beach" side as the locals refer to it). Been there on Christmas holiday but would definitely return for a boat tour in May!

Speyer Cathedral, also known as the Imperial Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption and St Stephen, is a significant Romanesque cathedral in Europe. It has been a burial site for emperors for centuries and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cathedral's construction began in the 11th century and it boasts impressive architectural design with soaring ceilings, intricate stonework, and stunning stained glass windows.
I enjoyed the architecture and the design. There were a lot of people visiting on a Saturday. To visit this Cathedral, you do not have to pay, except if you want to visit the tombs underground. It cost like 4 euros. Finding a car space on a Saturday was challenging but eventually I found one. The Cathedral is a must see attraction in Speyer. There is a lot of history here which I love to find out. Outside the Cathedral there are lots of coffee shops for your enjoyment. This is an active church and patrons are requested to respect the ambience and space.
Ravi L — Google review
The Speyerer cathedral exudes a sense of grand history and architectural significance. The intricate details in the stonework and sculptures reflect a high level of craftsmanship and religious symbolism. Inside, the soaring vaulted ceilings and massive columns create a powerful feeling of awe and reverence, while the richly decorated doorways and statues add a sense of solemn dignity. The atmosphere is both majestic and serene, offering a space that invites quiet reflection and admiration for its monumental design.
Clifton P — Google review
Visitor's note: there is currently restoration work ongoing. As such there is scaffolding in place. Be aware. What an amazing attraction for any and all visors. The cathedral it's absolutely magnificent. Completed and consecrated in 1051 le Cathedral de Spire is one of the last cathedrals built during the time of the unified church. Historically and religiously, this is incredibly significant, but the site doesn't stop there. The architecture of the space is world class. With no choir as you enter you are drawn to the east, to enter the space fully and encounter the light of Christ. The crypts below the cathedral are worth the visit alone. Hapsburgs lie interred next to other emperors, kings, and ancient leaders of both church and state. Whether you are looking for a tourist site, a historical adventure, or a pilgrimage site in western Germany, the dome has all of that and more.

However, it is worth noting that extra charges may apply if one uses the shower facilities after the outside area closes, despite only having paid for access to the open-air pool.
I was there in 2018. As for the pool, it is warm. It has an inside and outside pool all in one facility. There are two or three slides ,which I found fun to slide in and one sports pool. People there are super friendly. 👌
Vanessa W — Google review
Pools are brilliant and I have no complaints at all in that respect. The catering provider is awful, however. I was short-changed by €10, went back immediately to complain and I was basically told that it’s not possible to give me the money back. Was completely blanked by the staff and just ignored when I tried to raise it again. My wife also went to raise the issue before we left and was once again ignored by the staff, so had to remind them that she was speaking to them. We were told that ‘the money wasn’t going in their pocket’, but we never accused them of this, so it raised suspicions that it actually was going in their pocket. We essentially had €10 stolen from us, and although it’s not a lot of money, the principle stands that they could have at least been polite and tried to help us out. They said that they would count the till at the end of the day and phone if they were up (which they would have been), but we received nothing. Really disappointed with this but thought it was worth mentioning in case others experience anything similar.

Nice, deep pool for swimming. Warm water pool indoor, and a small one outdoor. I did not try the large outdoor pool as it was out of season, when I was there. Separate sauna area. (Translated by Google) Speyer, a city with exceptionally great sights, which are mainly located in the city center. The tourist information center is easy to find and super friendly. Questions are answered competently. I received the extensive information material that I had requested by post within a week. (It should also be mentioned because it's not common practice) Unfortunately the time is too short for a day trip. My journey with DB Region took over 5 hours (including delays). Most of the sights are located near the cathedral (worth seeing), which can be easily planned in advance using the good city map. It's just a shame that Sinsheim is a bit remote. The technology museum is definitely interesting too. However, due to the scope, you have to plan a separate trip. Overall, Speyer was worth a trip, and I'm already planning another trip.

Playground
Fun & Games
The Alla-hopp Anlage Speyer is a fantastic outdoor space that offers a great experience in good weather. The amenities and facilities are well-designed, with thoughtful features like Shields for added safety. The safety standards adhere to German regulations, ensuring a secure environment. The overall upkeep of the place is commendable, although it lacks food and drink vendors, which might be due to the winter season.
Very nice playground but I'd say it's better suited for kids 10 years and older. Some of the equipment is made of steel and concrete. It's a parcour for street gymnastics. But younger kids will be tempted to go an play there.
Tamim S — Google review
Good outdoor place to be enjoyed in a good wheather, all the facilities are well though of and explaining Shields are available too in case they are needed. safety features are up to the German standards and the whole place looks well kept. The only negative remark is the lack of food/drink vendors but that could possibly be because our visit was in winter, will definitely revisit it later in warmer weather and edit this review if needed.
