The Helmshore Mills Textile Museum offers a fascinating look into Lancashire's textile industry, housed in two adjacent mills that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Visitors can explore the history of wool and cotton production through interactive displays and working machinery demonstrations. The museum provides insight into the region's industrial past, with guided tours available for a deeper understanding of the site's significance.
A facinating place to visit. This is two experiences for the price of one as it has both a cotton (recycling) mill and an older wool mill on the same site. With demonstrations of machines working on the excellent optional free guided tours to make sense of it all. The cafe is very reasonably priced, and staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. As a bonus there are some excellent walks from this location.
Peter F — Google review
It is a lovely museum with friendly and knowledgeable guides. We hopped onto a talk that explained about the machines at the mill. Two of the machines were started up to demonstrate how they worked. A fascinating insight on "mill life." An awful industry to work in. The usual facilities onsite. The gift shop was OK, but no fridge magnets.
Lynn ( — Google review
A good visit with friendly staff and a very reasonable priced cafe. Great to walk around both mills but the guided tour with machinery demonstrations was excellent. Very unusual to see the machines still working. Well done.
Graddy 6 — Google review
Nice people give you a tour and demo of some machinery. Reasonably accessible for someone unsteady on their pins and they escort you on a lift upstairs
Martyn S — Google review
Lovely little museum outlining the history of cotton and wool production in Lancashire. Very knowledgeable guides and a well-stocked gift shop
Howard C — Google review
Great small Museum great for textile information good on our Sunday for the market in the car park it is a farmer's market lots of bread and cheese and exotic things to eat museum staff are friendly easy to get on with a great museum to bring children
Phillip M — Google review
The staff at Helmshore Mills Textile Museum provided a superb demonstration of various machinery, along with description of the process and risks that the work posed. The demonstration was methodically presented, describing and then demonstrating several machines in the order of the cotton processing. Afterwards, we were able to walk through the huge room with machines to see them up close (stationary, fo course). Signage around several machines helped to explain their functions. Free parking on site. Nice little café. Visited in mid-May 2025

Really interesting place with knowledgeable staff, one visit isn't enough to take it all in. Lovely walk over the disused railway viaduct next to it, highly recommended.

The Whitaker in Rawtenstall, Lancashire is a charming museum that showcases modern art exhibitions and features a picturesque garden. It also houses a restaurant where visitors can enjoy a variety of meals, including options for children. The museum offers an enriching experience with its range of exhibitions and events, making it an ideal destination to embrace the culture of Rawtenstall. Really interesting things in there. Arts wasn't very interesting this time, but there is more than just that there. Nice cafe and a big park to walk around in with plenty of room for kids to run around. Tennis courts and football pitch as well. Will be back when everything is warmer and plants are in full bloom.
Janne — Google review
A cracking little find right on our doorstep. If you're offended by vintage taxidermy, then maybe not for you. Some wonderful exhibits in a wonderful house. The entrance is free, also a beautifully decorated. With great food, a cafe is attached.
Steve M — Google review
Visited her to meet up with friends and grab drink and lunch. Very impressed with whole set up and a fabulous place to visit, catering for all ages. Park is beautifully maintained and set out, with even a community garden encouraging people to enjoy free herbs and cuttings. A baby playgroup was being held outside, which looked great fun for all. Only managed a quick scoot around the actual house, so didn't enjoy the galleries, but chatted to staff who gave me a potted history, which matched the stunning venue.
Stephanie F — Google review
I can't believe we've not visited the museum before today as we pass it weekly. Free parking and entrance with the loveliest of welcomes both at reception and in the cafe. Not the biggest museum but interesting exhibits, especially in the cupboard of curiosities. Great quality coffee, the food menu looks good too, sadly we won't be going for a pint with its £8.00 price tag.
Carole R — Google review
Visited here on a late Sunday afternoon ( bh aswell) . Pleased by free parking. Disabled access If needed. Was slightly disappointed as the cafe was shut that day but the museum.was open. Free entry to museum but donations welcomed to help support. This is a hidden little gem. Lots of interesting things to look at Inside .. a few pics to tease to the spoils but certainly doesn't show all the things to haze upon. The exhibition we saw was voiced by Jane horrors and is only there until June 1st. Will definitely be going to pack to see future installations.
Rebecca C — Google review
Brilliant local museum hiding in plain sight housing a fascinating permanent collection, especially the Cabinet of Curiosities. The museum hosts regular contemporary art exhibitions, and a range of community activities and workshops. The grounds feature a community garden, tennis courts, and sculptures, and there is now a bar and restaurant. Free entry, with donation points which take cash or card, and there's a gift shop. A short walk from Rawtenstall town centre, and accessible via the 464 bus route (Accrington - Rochdale).
Kerry B — Google review
This is a brilliant and amazing museum and art gallery in the heart of Rossendale. The museum and art gallery in a fantastic Victorian stone built building and it is housed over two floors where you can see some fantastic portraits of the local area and also there is a fantastic display of taxidermy animals on the ground floor with some informative information about them and the display of the animals is great with the condition of them very good. The top floor has some great artefacts from the local area with some great railway memorabilia about the East Lancashire Railway and also there is a great display of artwork and textile work from the Americas with some nice displays about how they were made and upon sighting these Textile works you can see their beauty and intracies. On the ground floor there is a Cabinet of Curiosities with a delightful range of artefacts to see and which are amazingly displayed and presented. There is a cafe selling a great range of refreshments at reasonable prices and also there is small shop selling a wonderful range of souvenirs at reasonable prices. Overall this is a wonderfully intriguing and interesting place to visit and makes for a delightful day out. Well worth a visit whilst in the area of Rossendale.

A delightful, small but perfectly formed gallery. The cabinet of curiosities was a great surprise. Nice gardens and park surrounding it. Stone's throw from shops and cafes. A few fun exhibits for children too.

Animal Quackers Farm is set to reopen on July 25, offering a delightful array of family-friendly activities. Visitors can enjoy engaging animal talks with farmer Terry, cuddle sessions with adorable bunnies and puppies, or even the thrill of holding a snake! The farm also features an exciting birds of prey show. To ensure safety, there will be limited guest capacity and social distancing measures in place.
Such a fun afternoon!! Could have spent all day here, a large selection of beautiful animals, some fab entertainment given by the staff and the price was very reasonable. Worth the 30 minute drive over! Kids were so happy seeing all the animals and learning about the birds, definitely coming back for another visit!! Thank you so much for having us!
Alex K — Google review
What an amazing day! Farmer Terry and his team are amazing. So welcoming and great at what they do! We went for my little boys 7th birthday and he absolutely loved it along with his brother and friend! Loads of friendly well cared for animals and an amazing price! Unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side today but that didn't dampen our day or ruin our experience in the slightest! Thank you so much guys ❤️ highly recommend
Megan M — Google review
Really good! The cafe food was amazing! The bird show was really good with the 2 new birds, i hope the animals that were behind the Land Rover Discovery were okay! Apparently they were having babies, so that’s why they were under there, thank you so much all the staff for looking after the both of us, we will upload the videos and pictures to Facebook and YouTube! Will definitely come back here and see everyone again! Thank you again Animal Quackers Farm, and big thank you to the staff!
Alfie-Beau — Google review
We had a great few hours here! Could have spent longer if it was a nicer day! Can get up and close with the animals with lots going on! Can feed the animals and has a little cafe too!
Kirsty H — Google review
Super fun place to visit. Very open, no frills venue with an emphasis on feeding most of the animals yourself. Lots of different animals including goats, meerkats, huge tortoise. My daughter (16) and I loved it and had a sheep on our knee cuddling for ages, precious. We stayed 2.5 hrs however could have stayed longer.
Sophie V — Google review
We don't usually post reviews but this is the exception ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE We took a family day out to quackers farm and it did not disappoint. Terry and the staff are wonderful, excellent people that tend and care for; not only to the farm animals but people to have the best experience possible, the shows are brilliant! We left ecstatic -laughing, smiling. You can see how hard they work and how much time and love they pour into giving everything they can to keep the smiles going and all for the joy of everyone around them. It's hard to keep everyone happy and unfortunately animals have a mind of their own; the same as we do, so you can't fault the experience if an animal was to nip you or do something you didn't like. You would be stupid to expect otherwise. I will tell everyone I know how incredible this place is, you've got yourselves a loyal customer to your farm.
K — Google review
Fantastic farm, all of the staff are brilliant & very hands on. Every one of them would go out of their way to help you. All of the shows were interesting and educational for the kids. The food is very cheap and probably the nicest food we've had at a farm, chips cheese & gravy in particular! 😍 Great day with young children, highly recommend.
Ted T — Google review
First time visiting the farm and we loved it, the animals are all so friendly! you can see they have good interaction and very well cared for. Every single person that works there was lovely. We laughed and smiled all day long. Baby goat feeding, birds of prey show, petting corner and a meerkat meet. It's honestly been the best day. (Food in there so reasonably priced and great quality )We will definitely be back here

Got the kids and missus skiing lessons for Xmas which were reasonably priced for 4 lessons whilst I just paid on the day for a casual ski session. The kids loved the lessons and the lady who was teaching was really professional and good with the kids. All the gear was good for amateurs like us

We had such a fantastic time at Ski Rossendale – a brilliant spot for anyone looking to get into skiing or snowboarding. The staff were welcoming and really knowledgeable, making it easy to feel comfortable even if you’re a beginner. 5 stars from us!!
Grant B — Google review
Just got those awesome winter vibes. This place is fantastic for the price. Kids love it.
Nick O — Google review
Good facilities, nice cafe and ski prep area. Well organised races but the slope is quite bumpy and steep, and the matting not very grippy on the main slope so maybe not the best slope to visit as a beginner racer, although I have some great memories racing here as an under 10! The freestyle slope has potential to be brilliant but doesn’t seem very well maintained.
Chloe C — Google review
Brilliant place and highly recommend. My son aged 12 did the ski taster and beginner lessons with Chloe then the improver lessons with Steve. His confidence has improved greatly and he can now ski on the large slope. Both instructors have been helpful, encouraging and friendly. Booking the lessons was easy and the team were really helpful with any questions. The cafe is great for a treat after skiing. A great place to learn to ski.

Heritage railroad
The East Lancashire Railway - Rawtenstall Station is a charming heritage railway that offers a delightful journey through the picturesque Rossendale Valley. Established in 1844, this historic line originally connected Manchester to Bury and has since expanded to cover 12 miles between Rawtenstall and Heywood, with stops at notable locations like Ramsbottom and Summerseat. Visitors can enjoy unique experiences such as dining on board vintage dining cars while being pulled by classic steam engines.
Pre-booked a day Rover for a family of 5 for a very reasonable £23. Spent the day in very well maintained steam and diesel engines going back and forth on the East Lancs Railway which included a visit to the transport museum in Bury as part of the ticket. All staff were very friendly and helpful and we had a great day. Will definitely do it again
Tristan S — Google review
It's definitely worth a visit. Had a fantastic day with a day rover ticket. All the staff/volunteers were really helpful. Good value, especially if you book beforehand online. It's dog friendly too.
Lancashire L — Google review
Rawtenstall railway station, is one of the best kept, brilliantly restored, most imposingly preserved stations I've ever visited, It's the upmost yet excellent northern terminus of the east lancashire railway that I've also had the pleasure in riding along en-route by train to rawtenstall out there, From what was once a 'through station' towards bacup, but is now a 'station terminus' of the enterprisingly lavish yet ever so resplendent east lancashire railway... Rawtenstall is a fellow 'one-of-a-kind' destination with more than a story to tell. Also took photos of this resplendent rly station that's also a jewel in the crown of the ELR too.
William C — Google review
Great journey on a steam train, kids and adults were all excited to be on it. Staff were great and interacted with the kids and even recovered my car keys which I dropped. We'll worth the experience. 😁
Keith C — Google review
The railway station itself is a great bit of local history. It is like stepping back in time. We were lucky as we saw a train coming in, I've never seen one run on coal before! The lovely stewardess let me onboard to take a photo of the inside of a carriage. The driver was having a few photos with kids, careful not to let them near the coal burner. Great experience

Such a fun day out on the train. We got return trip and enjoyed a cup of tea on the train. Staff and volunteers were lovely and friendly.

Grip & Go is an exciting indoor climbing center suitable for both adults and children aged 4 and above. With 21 walls to scale and the thrilling Leap of Faith challenge, it offers an action-packed experience for all visitors. The venue also caters to children's parties, providing exclusive hire options that ensure a memorable celebration. Additionally, there is a trampoline area and a cafe on-site, making it a versatile destination for families and groups.
Great fun and climbing for wide range of skills. We arrived 30 minutes early and this was far too early - I would arrive no more than 15 minutes early, and the induction video is less than 5 minutes (so that won’t eat into your time)
Richard M — Google review
What a fantastic place for a children's party. We got invited to the venue which was sole hire for the party. I do feel sole hire is definitely the way to go if you can and venues offering this is certainly a venue I would use. The kids had an hour on the 'clip and go' park then time in the party room for food etc. It really was enjoyed by all, even those children who were not used to climbing. There is something for everyone. Parking on site, which is free. Cafe, however slightly disappointed, it wasn't very well manned so I couldn't get a drink. Those manning it were manning the party at the same time so I would suggest a separate person for the cafe section. Great party room afterwards although it could of been better decorated, saying that it was for for purposes. I couldn't book this venue for a party has my grandson is special needs and unfortunately found it difficult but if that wasn't the case I certainly would book this venue

My 10yo daughter and her friends had a great team bonding Christmas party at Grip and Go. There was plenty of space and climbing options for them all, plus the cafe seating area for the parents. The kids loved it.

Grip & Go in Rossendale offers an exhilarating and action-packed day out for families seeking adventure and physical activity. As an indoor climbing center, it provides a fantastic opportunity for both children and adults to challenge themselves while having a blast. One of the standout features of Grip & Go is its diverse range of climbing walls, catering to climbers of all abilities and experience levels. From beginner-friendly routes to more advanced challenges, there's something for everyone to enjoy. The variety ensures that we can continually push ourselves to new heights and improve our climbing skills with each visit. One of the most thrilling experiences at Grip & Go is the "leap of faith," a daring jump from a platform to a suspended target. This exhilarating challenge tests both courage and coordination, providing a rush of adrenaline for those brave enough to attempt it. It's no surprise that it was a highlight for many, including my 11-year-old son, who conquered it along with all the other climbing walls. For families looking to spend quality time together while staying active, Grip & Go ticks all the boxes. The indoor setting ensures that weather is never a concern, making it a perfect option year-round. Additionally, the facility's emphasis on safety, with trained staff overseeing each session and providing guidance when needed, offers peace of mind for parents. Our positive experience, particularly my son's enthusiasm for the activities, speaks volumes about the center's appeal to children. Knowing that he not only enjoyed himself but also conquered challenges and built confidence is a testament to the quality of the experience provided by Grip & Go. Overall, Grip & Go is a fantastic choice for a family fun day out in Rossendale. With its exciting climbing walls, thrilling challenges like the leap of faith, and emphasis on safety, it's sure to be a hit with visitors of all ages. Our intention to return speaks volumes about the lasting impression that Grip & Go leaves on its guests.

Trampoline area is good, good choice of different areas our kids really love it. Seems well supervised and never seems to busy. The cafe food and drink is ok if you like fried burger van/ kebab shop style food. Nothing slightly healthy on the menu. And the coffee machine wasn't working when we was there. You can't take pictures or video from the trampoline area but you can from the balcony. They say its because you are not aloud to take pictures of other people but its fine from above? Doesn't really make sense to me.
Leon W — Google review
Not bad value for 2 kids for an hour.. About £22. Visited 04/01/18. More geared up for under 10's than an energetic young teenager. Climbing area was quite small compared to other climbing places we've visited. Still, the varied walls kept them entertained for the hour. Disappointingly the young guy who was clipping and unclipping was so miserable. I think for that kind of job and dealing with children you need to show some enthusiasm.. There's a small cafe attached to the area offering the usual overpriced stuff. Not bad for a rainy afternoon for an hour or two.. Free parking too 👍

The Fusilier Museum in Bury is a captivating destination for history enthusiasts and those with a connection to the Lancashire Fusiliers. Situated across from the Bury Art Museum, this well-designed museum showcases uniforms, medals, and artifacts spanning over 300 years of the regiment's esteemed legacy. Interactive displays offer insights into significant conflicts such as the Battle of the Plains of Abraham and the Napoleonic Wars. The museum also pays homage to General James Wolfe.
Been taking my elder 2 kids over the years -now starting all over with my younger one..not gone inside due to closing time but will definitely come and have a look and have a good tour into history and man.. We do love passing by and just sitting down for a while and taking a breather!! A great garden of peace!! Me and my little boy finally went, a great tour, thoroughly enjoyed it, great for kids and family who loves exploring and finding!! Staff was very friendly and kind-didn't need to pay for the entry, so thanking you!! (Will go again to explore 2nd floor, couldn't see all due to appointment)!

I love the military museums, so today, I went to Bury. This is home to the Fusiliers Museum. A fantastic welcome from the member of staff on the desk. He spoke to my husband and our pal while I browsed the gift shop looking for a magnet. Please, guys, you need to get some with the name of the museum on 😊 Well, what a collection and what a building! Everything was spaced out nicely, no clutter that you find with these types of museums. Well done 👏 So much history to read and look at. I am so glad we went today, with being Easter weekend, it was quiet. We more or less had the place to ourselves, so we could take our time looking around. Once we had finished, we popped to Olive's for a coffee. The cafe is situated in the museum. Disabled access to each floor via a lift. Toilets are spotless, too. Please go and visit and take a walk around the well maintained garden of remembrance.

What a lovely museum. We went in the school break and kids got in for free 😊. Great things to look at and do. Has a little virtual shooting range for just £1 a go. Cute little shop too for little gifts. Lovely receptionist, very welcoming. If you are in bury must go here.

Fantastic visit! This is not a very big space but it is packed with interesting items. 3 floors! If you stopped and read everything, you could easily spend a day here. The entrance fee is under £5 and lasts for a year! Best value I have come across. I really did enjoy my experience here and wish I had had more time.

Fantastic museum telling the truly amazing over 300 years history of the Lancashire Fusiliers under its various different names. Fascinating collection of uniforms, medals and artefacts displayed with informative labels. The regiment were even awarded six Victoria Crosses in just one day during the dreadful Gallipoli Campaign. That is commemorated in the garden outside where there is also a WWI memorial that was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens who also designed the London Cenotaph. Excellent value and there's also a cafe on site.

Great history of the Fusilier regiment. Interesting information and pictures. The exhibits are broken up into eras and years and follows in order of conflicts.
Sue D — Google review
Excellent museum ; you can easily spend an half day if you like to discover all the details. You find an historical side of the wars and warriors through the ages. There is as well often an exhibition about different topics, last time I've been in it was regards Kosovo 30 years celebration. The ticket entrance is for one year, you can go back whenever you wish within the year. There is as well a large memory shop and a restaurant.
Charlotte P — Google review
Nice place. I’ve been a couple of times specifically for the comic con meet and greets held here but the actual museum is great to look at as well. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a café located upstairs above the entrance area.

Nestled in the charming town of Ramsbottom, Nuttall Park is a delightful escape into nature that offers something for everyone. With its expansive fields and well-maintained trails winding through lush wooded areas, this park is perfect for leisurely strolls or energetic jogs. Families will appreciate the accessible pathways, making it easy to navigate with strollers or wheelchairs. The park features an impressive playground equipped with swings and climbing frames, providing endless fun for children.
A nice flat walk of approximately 1km. It's ideal for prams, runners and dog walks with a little beach where the dogs can take a dip. There's also a fenced off park area, tennis court (which you have to pay to access), toilets and a cafe which is open most days (run by volunteers). It has a reasonable car park and on nice days the ice cream van makes an appearance 🍦.
Chris B — Google review
Clean, well kept park perfect for dog walking, cycling and jogging. There are a few tracks that lead to the woods and down to the river so my dog loves it. It's also perfectly situated for Ramsbottom town centre so easy to pop there for breakfast before the walk or lunch after a walk (and most places allow dogs).
Anne B — Google review
Love this place. Huge open fields. 1km track running round it for running or riding a bike. Walk in access to the river if the kids want to splash or paddle or play. Adventure playground. So much to do here.
Adrian B — Google review
Free parking and plenty of it. Good play equipment well maintained. Loads of open space, a river, woodland areas, gorgeous views, the train goes by regularly and there are toilets and a cafe (part time opening). What’s not to love!
Lauren G — Google review
Went for a walk with my friend Debbie. The park isn't particularly big but it's pleasant to walk/jog around. It's also very handy to park here and walk to Rammy when there's a busy event on. Cafe is nice, but basic. It doesn't charge but you are expected to make a donation. The guy in there was very nice and helpful.

Excellent park! Some lovely views and a river running alongside. The Lancashire Steam Railway also runs along the edge so you may get to see a steam train. Lots of benches and bins. Toilets are opened by volunteers so not necessarily available. Some lovely woods for exploring

The Millennium Theatre Waterfoot is a charming venue that offers exceptional plays. Despite being small and old-fashioned, it provides a cozy and pleasant night out. However, parking on the main street can be challenging, so it is recommended to park on the turn off just after the theatre. Visitors are guaranteed an enjoyable experience here, with the possibility of even purchasing season tickets. The theatre has a welcoming atmosphere and reasonable ticket prices, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a local theatrical experience.
A small friendly place from the minute we walked in. Lovely to visit a truly local theatre. No problem parking, ticket prices very reasonable and even a raffle and a bar. Would definitely return, a good evening out.
Katrina S — Google review
Lovely friendly theatre with great performances.
Helen Y — Google review
A very welcoming and friendly local theatre. This was our first trip to see a fabulously funny farce presented by the Rossendale Players. Every seat is £10, and they have an open seating procedure, so if you want to sit near the front, then you'll need to get there early. The seats are comfy and give a good view of the stage from the stalls or the circle. There is a nice little bar at the back of the theatre, with a good choice of drinks and snacks, and all at a reasonable price. They have a raffle for every show at £1 a strip with three prizes available. Downstairs is a little cafe which is open at the interval for free tea and coffee (with a donation) and a plate of biscuits on each table. Note that the risers on the steps down to the cafe are quite tall, so it could be a difficult descend and climb if you are struggling. Overall, this is a great local theatre, with a diverse series of plays shown throughout the year and we will be back.

Wonderful place and i was a season ticket holder there for ten years, until I moved out of the area, every play I saw was exceptional, the theatre is small and an old fashioned theatre and well worth a visit, cosy friendly and a pleasent night out, though parking on the main street can be difficult I always used to park on the turn off on the same side just after the theatre, across from the little park in Waterfoot. I promise you won't regret a visit here, and you may like me end up buying season tickets...

Nestled in the picturesque village of Goodshaw, Goodshaw Chapel stands as a remarkable testament to Nonconformist worship. This historic Baptist chapel, established between 1742 and 1809, features an enchanting array of box-pews, galleries, and a pulpit that exude charm and character. The chapel's origins are steeped in a revival movement from nearby Dean, where passionate worshippers were drawn to create this sacred space.
Nice little town. I take part in Sacred Harp singing and we have an annual gathering there. Nearby is the oldest quaker meeting house in the country, lucky that we could visit it and sing a few songs inside.

Closed under renovations and safety reasons but there seems to be no end date for it. Travelled quite a bit to come here so very disappointed. The surroundings are very beautiful.

Lovely quaint box pew chapel. I visited at party of the British Textile Biennial.
Joanne P — Google review
If you had no sat nav this building would be hard to find, with no signage from the main road. You would have to ring beforehand to gain access, but timing of your arrival may need to be precise? Large chapel with windows threatening to fall out because of neglect. Commonwealth graves in the cemetery.
Tony W — Google review
I was born within sight of the beautiful olde world village that used to be next to this great survivor. The chapel was originally built because of a wonderful revival in nearby Dean. They were then led to move to Goodshaw, and built this chapel. Their singing was glorious ; they had a small orchestra, and the women used to wear local flowers in their lapels when they came for worship. The worship was both sacred and dynamic, in spite of the cold conditions in winter! Most of the old village was sadly demolished in the 1970's, to make way for a proposed road bypass (that never came!), but a few of the old buildings remain, such as this old Chapel, the old vicarage, the old White Horse Inn, the old farm and also St Mary's Church. If the old village had survived, it would now be one of the most beautiful preserved villages in England, complete with stunning views over the hills. This chapel is special, and is like stepping back in time to those early days. Well worth a special visit, but you will need to contact the local key-holder for an appointment to view the chapel and the graveyard.
Sheridan P — Google review
The Chapel has a severe beauty. It is stone cold in winter but has a wonderful atmosphere. Many generations have prayed, worshipped and sang there and their presence can almost be felt. A wonderful ancient house of prayer

Travelled a considerable distance to see this English Heritage gem - only to find both gates padlocked and only a contact telephone number on the gate. "Ring the number for a key" but the phone was not answered.

The Halo is a remarkable steel artwork, situated at Top o Slate near Haslingden. Installed in 2007, this monumental sculpture has an impressive 18-meter diameter and stands out for its unique design. During the day, it shines in a silver hue; however, after dark, it undergoes a captivating transformation with blue LED lights powered by wind energy. The Halo forms part of a collection of Panopticons scattered across Lancashire and commissioned by Mid Pennine Arts.
Beautiful walk and lovely views from the halo. Unfortunately there have been cars up there rallying around the halo so it is a muddy quagmire. Really spoilt the experience as had to plough through all the ankle deep mud.
Denise R — Google review
Walked up on the road (parking up there) then through the field - wow impressive! Walked round until dusk to see the lights on, must look amazing when it's fully dark. Great views, the turbine powering the lights spins so fast, smelt like burning, surprised it doesn't fly off! Shame idiots drive near it, though the puddles in the muddy groves make lovely reflections!
Ilona R — Google review
It's only a short walk to and around it. It has a board that tells you about it but you are better looking online first about the history of it. The road to get to it is single track so you have to wish nobody is coming towards you. Parking is limited on the road only. It is supposed to light up at night but we didn't stay that long or don't want to go back in a hurry
Jayne W — Google review
Visited here on our way home from shopping in Rossendale. Great views, and with only about twenty minutes before sun down we didn't have long to wait until it was lit up. Visiting in November had it's positives and negatives. Positives it lights up early and had lovely views negatives it was wet, cold, and slippy.
Julie B — Google review
Be careful driving on the road to The Halo as it's very narrow with blind bends. It's a beautiful view up there, and you can see miles around. The Halo isn't much to see during the daytime as it comes more to its right in the dark when the blue lights are on.
Janne — Google review
Look, Halo is impressive. But it’s literally a structure. It’s not even lit so at night it’s not striking. Seems like a missed opportunity to me (but maybe lighting it is tricky - it’s in the middle of nowhere). Apart from some lovely views there’s nothing here. Well, there is a car park, which is useful.
Steve M — Google review
Nice place to see at night. Can see on the highway from far. Could do with more attractions maybe. Not amazing like wow holy and not oh boring. Just in the middle
Db S — Google review
Been intending to visit the halo for a while so today was the day. Great walk with 3 different car parks. Was really good to see and will return at night at some point. Slightly disappointed the site doesn't feel as its been looked after. Alot of over growth no bins in the closest car park graffiti appear on the steel structure. I'd say definitely worth a visit some great views however needs some attention on the up keep

This place is amazing! The owners Danielle and Neil are so lovely as well. We have been loads of times but my favourite was for my son’s 1st birthday party! They decorated the room so nicely for us and children between the ages of 1-8 came and had so much fun! There’s so much to do but we love the role play area and the sensory room the most! Can’t recommend this place enough!
Danielle C — Google review
We’ve just returned from my son’s 4th birthday party at inside out. We have long loved this play centre as it’s so calm, fun and different from others. Danielle and the team are so lovely, nothing is too much trouble and there are always creative ideas and different elements. My son chose this as his favourite place to hold his first’with friends’ party and I am so so glad he did. We had the classic party package with a jungle theme. The play centre looked beautiful, it was so wonderful to have the whole place for our group and despite some last minute confirmations (and an unconfirmed attendee) Danielle and Neil handled it amazingly, sorted food and even a little gift for the unexpected guest as we didn’t have a party bag for them. Having been to some other parties that can feel a bit formulaic this was so personal and wonderful in every way. It really feels like they absolutely are as invested as we are and it was a great experience start to finish! Thank you so so much!
Claire W — Google review
Took our 18 month old here and he loved it. It is a great place and really creative in terms of what is on offer. The sensory play room upstairs is fantastic.
S M — Google review
We all went to a party at Inside Out. It was absolutely fab. All laid out so well and spotlessly clean. It was good for my grandson, who was 5, but my granddaughter, who was 9 equally enjoyed it. However I would say it is aimed more at the younger ones. I loved the sensory room, upstairs, and wished I could have stayed up there myself … so relaxing. I thought the lunch was really good too. Instead of having a mountain of food put on the table, each child had their own wooden tray catering to their specific requirement. I thought this a really good idea. Adults can purchase drinks and snacks if required.
Caroline L — Google review
Absolutely fantastic place for kids of all ages. We have been looking for options around Rawtenstall and this place ticks all the boxes. There are active play areas with slide and trampoline and ball areas. Also a lovely sensory room which is one of the nicest ones I’ve seen. Really cosy in there. And then the messy play areas where they can paint and play with sand etc. The cafe is also really good and sandwiches were nice. I’d recommend for all kids, my little one is 18m and had lots of fun.
Nadine M — Google review
We love it here. So much time and effort goes in to setting up the activities and toys and you can really tell. The staff are always lovely and approachable alongside this it’s always spotless! Would highly recommend to all parents as there is something for every child, even newborns with their amazing sensory room. (Pictures are all from different visits)

Danielle & Neil were friendly, warm & very welcoming. The activity centre has a variety of play stations/areas and all are equipped so beautifully- there was a cosy feel throughout. The sensory room was a great experience. We had pancakes and coffee at the cafe- they were delicious and good value for money. A lovely addition to Rawtenstall, would highly recommend. Thank you for a great afternoon- the kids had lots of fun.

Trickett's Memorial Ground in Waterfoot is a serene oasis that has been lovingly transformed by dedicated volunteers into a beautiful garden. The grounds serve as a fitting tribute to the 44 individuals commemorated on the entrance gate post, honoring their sacrifice during the "Great War." This peaceful park offers a perfect spot for picnics and relaxation, surrounded by lush greenery and shaded areas. Visitors can also enjoy leisurely walks with their dogs through the lovely gardens and nearby woods.
Named After Sir Henry Trickets This Park Is Dedicated To The Local Men That Lost There Lives In The First World War .. A Tidy Memorial With Benches And Somewhere To Maybe Have Sit Down And Watch The Traffic Go Past ... This Area Would Also Of Be A Go To Place If Bombs Where Dropped As It Was Once An Air Raid Shelter For The People Of Rossendale, With 4 Entrances Or Could Of Been Exits And One Still Viable For A Small Skinny Type... Trickett’s is an oasis of calm, peace and tranquility in Waterfoot. Over the last few years a small but dedicated team of volunteers have transformed what was once a wilderness into a garden that the community can be proud of. A great deal of work has taken place and the results are outstanding. Work still continues to make the Memorial Grounds a fitting tribute to the 44 names who are commerated on the gate post at the entrance.
