The Naval Museum, also known as Marinmuseum, is a modern and family-friendly waterfront museum located on the island of Stumholmen in Karlskrona, Sweden. It boasts a diverse range of exhibits that showcase the country's rich naval heritage.
À great must, in particular Nep(tune) Also the reception team made us feel extremely welcome, in particular the lady of Italian origin whose name I failed to ask. But for sure she'll remember the guy who liked stickers
José I — Google review
Interesting and extensive museum, gives great insight in the becoming of Karlskrona. The submarine is most impressive, although all the other exhibitions were also created with great care. One minor problem was that not all the signage was always available in English, or maybe only one sentence was while the Swedish text was very extensive. Google Translate solved this, but that could be improved for foreign visitors.
Niels G — Google review
While not a huge museum, it has some great exhibits, not least a very large naval submarine you can go inside and walk about in. There is a theatre that shows a very well presented film on the timeline of the Swedish navy. All the exhibits are displayed well and have English explanations alongside those in Swedish. The information is not verbose, which is a mistake often made by museums I've been too. The museum has an excellent restaurant which rounds off a really enjoyable experience overall !
Adam B — Google review
Most beautifull museum for marine, I've seen. Being able to visit a real U-boot on the inside completly, just gives you much more feeling with the history and live in the marine. Also the lunch buffet in the museum is good quality.
Wim V — Google review
Very interesting exposition includes 2 submarines and 3 ships. Good for visiting with kids. Also discount is available for entance if less than 1 hour until closure left
Marija L — Google review
A lovely couple of hours entertainment. Lots of bits that both kids and adults can enjoy like the nuclear submarine you can go on - do expect queues in busier periods. Really nicely weaved in overarching narratives with rich personal stories and events such as the Polish submariners who fled to Sweden in WW2 and Swedish conscripts experiences of the cold war. For an Englishman a fascinating way to learn more about Sweden's evolution through regional power, to superpower, to the softpower and cultural force you see today.
Nathan L — Google review
Very interesting museum offering informal text in various languages. It is a very interactive museum aswell with educational games so you easier can learn about for example submarines and how they work. You can enter a submarine aswell and see how they lived in there and more. There is also a buffet restaurant at the entrance if you want a quick bite before or after your visit.
Dinos I — Google review
I’ve been visiting the Blekinge region for years, and I must confess that this museum surprised me very positively with its accurate exhibitions and attention to detail. It transports you back in time and offers a magnified view beneath the surface of Karlskrona’s naval mastery. The museum doesn’t earn a full five stars because the bistro offers only limited and rather bland plant-based options, while most Swedish classic meals served are centered around meat and fried fish. Moreover, I felt the museum’s exhibitions tended to present Sweden’s naval and military history in a way that passively promotes war. Despite being a civilian institution, the displays often focus on military achievements and hardware without encouraging deeper reflection on the consequences or ethical complexities of conflict. I would have appreciated a more critical perspective that invites visitors to consider the broader impacts of war, rather than treating it as an inevitable or unproblematic part of national history.

Blekinge Museum, located in Karlskrona, Sweden, offers a deep dive into the region's history spanning over 10,000 years. The museum showcases local trades like fishing and boat-building and features Grevagarden, an impeccably preserved 18th-century residence with a vast collection of vintage artifacts. It houses an impressive array of archaeological finds from all over Blekinge and exhibits that trace the county's development from prehistory to modern times.
The museum was so interactive and fun, there were a lot of rats that showed us some interesting facts. It has a beautiful garden upstairs, where you can sit on the bench, very relaxing. I recommend

There’s a peaceful garden and some interesting sculptures, like Lilla Flora, tucked just outside. The buildings themselves are beautiful, especially with the historical vibe of the old stone walls. It’s a relaxing spot to stroll through, and you still get a sense of the region’s history just from the surroundings. Would definitely come back another time to explore the inside!

Fredrikskyrkan, a neoclassical church erected during the early 1800s, stands at the heart of Karlskrona. It showcases stunning architectural design, frescoes, and furnishings. Recently renovated with a contemporary flair, the church now boasts an interior that elevates it to new heights in the current century. The newly transformed space exudes brightness and openness while retaining a tasteful spiritual ambience.
Beautiful, recently renovated (interior) church in the heart of Karlskrona. The new interior lifts the church to new heights in the 21st century. It is light, airy, modern, tastefully decorated without losing the spiritual ambiance. In fact, the new interior lifts the spiritual experience to a pleasant and joyful high. Recommended to visit when in town.
Anders E — Google review
Fredrikskyrkan is an absolute gem in the heart of Karlskrona. We stumbled upon it while exploring the main square during our cruise stop, and it quickly became one of the highlights of our visit. The church’s striking Baroque architecture immediately stands out—with its soft orange façade, grand towers, and detailed stonework, it feels both majestic and welcoming at the same time. Built in the 18th century and named after King Fredrik I, the church has a fascinating history that reflects Karlskrona’s maritime and royal past. Inside, the atmosphere is peaceful and serene. The interior is bright and beautifully preserved, with elegant chandeliers, a grand pipe organ, and a simple yet reverent altar space. You can really feel the sense of history in the quiet moments. What I appreciated most was how accessible it felt—open to visitors, but still very much a working place of worship. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or just want a moment of calm while sightseeing, Fredrikskyrkan is well worth stepping into.
Celine L — Google review
Fredrikskyrkan is a beautiful church with a striking presence in the square—it really stands out. We stopped by when the doors were open and wandered in, thinking it was open for visitors. To our surprise, there was actually a baby’s baptism going on! It felt a bit odd, like we had accidentally crashed a private moment, so we quietly stepped back out, without taking pics inside because, well, that's weird with the ceremony going on. But interestingly, plenty of others stayed and watched respectfully, so it seems to be a bit of a mix between public space and private event. Still, it’s a lovely building worth seeing from the outside and, if timing allows, inside too. Just maybe check if there’s something going on first!

Despite potential weather challenges, there are opportunities for swimming in the pool.
Kids. 3y, loved it. Everything was good. Waterland was amazing. Food was ok as well.
Stefan K — Google review
Really good place for the kids and family. Nice to pay one entrance fee that covers everything and not having to pay extra for rides. Before swimming we had a look at the animals, played in the big playground full of interesting and clever designs. We even went on the trampolines and drove the really cool cars and trucks. This was the highlight for my 3 year old. The weather was not really the kindest to us, but we still managed to get some swimming in the pool done. It would have been nice to have the water temperature written up somewhere to see - but im guessing that it wasnt much above 22 degrees c and that is really cold for a 3 year old! I also noticed the absence of lifeguards. Well more than one - is that usual? The pool area was however very clean and well maintained. Extra plus was being able to borrow a parasol to get some well needed shade! We stayed for lunch, the kids and we liked the food which was reasonably priced and tasty. Nice concept idea with the make your own pizzas too! Home made mashed potato also went down very well with the kids.

Stakholmen is a captivating uninhabited island in Karlskrona, connected to the main island by a long wooden jetty. It resembles a large rock emerging from the sea and features remnants of WWII in the form of anti-aircraft gun positions. The island offers a stunning view of Karlskrona's skyline and is centrally located, making it easily accessible for visitors.
Why was I in Stockholm? Other than the fact that it’s a gorgeous capital city? Well, I haaate to admit it, but Stockholm’s attractions were a bit of an afterthought for me. Not to mention, I was easily overwhelmed by everything Sweden’s capital had to offer visitors, and couldn’t bring myself to plan too much in my free time. Honestly, guys, there are so many wonderful experiences to have in Stockholm that I wasn’t sure what to do with myself. Despite my horrible lack of planning, Stockholm had always been a destination lurking in the back of my mind for a solo trip. I’m a “not so secret” fan of Scandinavian design, after all, and briefly contemplated a spring break to Stockholm.

(Translated by Google) A wonderfully beautiful church temporarily erected in anticipation of a temporary church building in the more central parts of the city. Ulrica Pia was consecrated in 1685 and although it was thought that the permanent stone church was already consecrated three years later, the Admiralty Church remains where it has stood for over three hundred years and is today both a very alive church with a faithful congregation and a well-visited attraction for visitors in Karlskrona not least for his helping hero the figure Rosenbom (see separate recent update). The church is beautifully decorated and has a fantastic history, which the cheerful, helpful, well-read and charismatic guide tells with warmth in his own colorful way. I give the Admiralty Church Ulrica Pia five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (If you like the recent review, please give it a thumbs up 🙂) (Original) En underbart vacker kyrka provisoriskt uppförd i väntan på en temporär kyrkobygnad i stadens mer centrala delar. Kyrkan är vackert dekorerad och har en fantastisk historia som den glada, hjälpsamna, pålästa och karismatiska guiden med värme berättar om på sitt eget målande vis. Lunch restaurant
Bistro Skeppsgossen in Karlskrona offers a delightful opportunity to savor authentic Blekinge cuisine with its well-prepared traditional Swedish dishes. The buffet features a variety of options including kroppkakor, stekt sill, kottbullar, and raggmunk med flask. The charming outdoor seating allows guests to enjoy the view and sounds of the waves while indulging in the local delicacies.
Good local food (Blekinge style) all you can eat buffe with plenty of choices and delicious Swedish food. Apart from the food they also serve locally toasted coffee and locally made ice-cream. The ice-cream is in my opinion the best in town. There is not a lot to choose from but I'm unable to describe how good it is. I can gladly recommend hazelnut or pecan flavors.

A superb place. We were there on 18th Aug, the last day before they close before autumn. It was full of fun, full of music, full of dances, full of love. Also it was on a perfect location.

Crowdy, but there are tables upstairs that many might not notice. Food was fresh and tasty, salads were rather heavy and creamy.

Always worth to stop here and eat the lunchbuffe. Exellent and quality swedish food. Nice view over the habour. All you can eat. Use stairs to go up. View even nicer. If weather allows you can sit outside too. Be aware of seagulls!!!!

If you want well cooked traditional Swedish food (sadly a bit difficult to find in this country), then come here. Stekt strömming, kroppkakor (stekta och kokta; med skirat smör), köttbullar, rårörda lingon. For vegans there is not much protein aside from vegan "köttbullar". Be sure to get some pickled cucumber and red onion as well. The weekend price for the lunch buffet is 159sek currently.
Robin L — Google review
Excellent buffet with classics from sweden and blekinge: Meatballs, lingonberries, kroppkakor, potatoes, and a sallad buffet too. Reasonable price, especially for students, and you will not go hungry after a visit.
Erik N — Google review
Been here a few times over the past 10 years. Great place for a super buffet style meal at a fair price. No shopping, no cooking, no dishes. Bra !
Rob V — Google review
The spread is nice and priced reasonably..the meatballs were scrumptuous coupled with fresh salads and soup..the deep fries were not my personal favorite, but good local beer washes it all down well..the place sits just outside the naval museum tends to attract weekend crowds, so plan your travel accordingly or be ready to queue up..

Amiralitetsklockstapeln, a historic clock tower dating back to 1699, is a significant landmark in the city of Karlskrona. Originally part of the naval base, its tolling served as a signal for the stationed men. Located in Admiralty Park, this wooden bell tower stands south of the city center and near the Baltic Sea. The park next to it offers a pleasant spot for visitors to take a break while exploring the area.
Old watchtower made of wood.
Khadiza A — Google review
A visit to Karlskrona wouldn’t be complete without stopping by the Amiralitetsklockstapeln, or Admiralty Bell Tower. This striking wooden structure, originally used to signal time to shipyard workers, now serves as the bell tower for the nearby Admiralty Church and is a quiet yet powerful reminder of the city’s deep naval roots. Leaving the grand Stortorget square and walking toward the tower, history seems to unfold with every step. If you look closely, you can spot remnants of the old railway tunnel that once connected the city to the naval dockyard—running directly beneath the bell tower from the late 1800s until the 1990s. It’s a subtle but fascinating piece of industrial history, blending perfectly into the historic landscape. Just a short walk away is the Karlskrona Admiralty Church, also known as Ulrica Pia. Built entirely of wood, it’s one of the largest wooden churches in Sweden and forms part of the city’s UNESCO-listed naval base. In front of the church stands the unforgettable figure of Gubben Rosenbom, a wooden statue cloaked in local folklore. According to the story, Rosenbom was a shipyard worker who fell into poverty after contracting malaria. One bitter winter night, after being given too much alcohol while begging, he was found frozen outside the church, his hand outstretched. His story lives on through the sculpture—if you lift his hat, you’ll find a slot to donate coins to the poor. It’s a touching tribute that adds a very human layer to the site’s maritime legacy.

Church
Rosenbom is a significant figure in Karlskrona, standing in front of the church for over 200 years. This wooden carving of an old man holds a collection box for charitable donations to help the poor. Although his hat was damaged, visitors can still see the original inside the church. Rosenbom is not only a local idol but also plays a major part in newly graduates tradition.
I really loved the Rosenbom statue — it feels so warm and down-to-earth. It’s not flashy or over the top, just this simple wooden figure that kind of feels like it’s been there forever, quietly watching over the church. There’s something comforting about it, like it’s part of the town’s heart and stories. I wasn’t expecting to feel connected to a statue, but Rosenbom somehow makes you think about kindness and history without being preachy. Definitely a cool little find if you’re wandering around Karlskrona and want something that feels genuine and a bit special.

Conference center
Boda Borg Karlskrona in Sweden is a commercial venue where parties and gatherings can be organized. While it may not be as impressive as its counterparts in Oxelosund or Boston, this amusement center offers an enjoyable experience. Some rooms were under maintenance, and the overall polish and technology are relatively lower. However, for those who are Boda Borg enthusiasts, a visit to Oxelosund is highly recommended.
Super fun place highly recommended, you have to do games/puzzles that are really hard, so don't be afraid to fail a lot. When you succeed you will feel amazing. I will be back there when I get the chance.
Cindy N — Google review
Boda Borg is one of the most unique and fun experiences out there, and Karlskrona was such a great location! The employees are so wonderful and were incredibly accommodating when we asked for a hint, an icepack, or even just to chat for a few minutes. Highly recommend.

Sofia B — Google review
It's a really fun place and I love it. I would love if they added some soft corners on the most dangerous parts and a bit of info before entering. 4 adults had a really hard time to figure out some of the rooms
Mikkel L — Google review
First, let me say that Boda Borg is an amazing concept. After playing in Boston, we literally travelled to Sweden to play more rooms, and it was well worth the trip! That being said, this particular Boda Borg is a bit older and less impressive than the ones in Oxelösund (amazing) or Boston (pretty great). A number of rooms were down for maintenance, and the overall polish and tech is definitely a lot lower (the bathtub was....interesting), but still overall enjoyable. If you are Boda Borg fanatics like us, make sure you visit Oxelösund !

Interesting decorations (for those who like pink, and lots lf it :) ). The products are tasty, but rather on the expensive side. The music was very loud so we could barely talk to eachother. We asked the owner to turn the volume down a bit and he did, only to turn it up again several minutes later. All the dishes and coffee are prepared in the same room where the customers are, so all in all it gets very loud in there. Not the best place to have a conversation or to enjoy a coffee in peace. But the coffee and the fruit sallad were good.

A quiet, lovely little lighthouse tucked away on Stumholmen. It’s not the kind you climb or tour, but it’s got charm and history, and the views over the water are beautiful. We enjoyed walking around the area—there’s a nice mix of old naval buildings and coastal paths, so it makes for a peaceful stop if you’re exploring Karlskrona on foot. It’s small and low-key, which is probably why it’s not packed with people, but that actually made it nicer. Worth a visit if you’re nearby and enjoy lighthouses or scenic strolls.

Kungsholm Fortress, located offshore in Karlskrona, was established in 1680 to defend the town and is an extraordinary sight. The only way to visit the fort is through a two-hour guided boat tour that can be booked through Karlskrona Turistbyra or at the Marinmuseum. The 'World Heritage Tour' offers a lovely afternoon trip from Karlskrona to Kungsholm's fort with skilled and friendly guides.
A pleasant boat ride over to the fortress and a very nice guide, would definitely recommend this to people who wants to know a bit more about Swedish naval history. There is also a huge botanical garden with over 200 different plants if you are interested in nature. Overall the trip takes around 4 hours give or take and the boat has some minor refreshments although I would recommend bringing your own water and meal if you are planning on eating on the island since they do overcharge a bit on the boat.

We didn’t get to set foot on Kungsholm Fortress, but we were lucky enough to get an incredible view of it from our cruise ship as we sailed into Karlskrona—and even from a distance, it was impressive. The fortress sits on a small island just off the coast, and its strategic position at the entrance to the naval harbor makes it clear why it played such an important role in Sweden’s maritime defense. Built in the late 1600s, Kungsholm Fortress has guarded the approach to Karlskrona for centuries and remains an active military installation, which makes it all the more fascinating. From the water, you can spot its rounded bastions, lighthouse, and even a glimpse of the courtyard inside the old stone walls. Knowing it has a botanical garden within the fortress walls—planted by the soldiers and maintained for generations—only added to the intrigue. While civilian access is restricted, getting a view of Kungsholm from the ship gave us a real sense of its scale and historical significance. If you’re cruising into Karlskrona, be sure to head out on deck—you won’t want to miss this striking piece of Swedish naval history quietly holding its post just offshore.

(Translated by Google) Masterful. The fort was built around 1680. There was never any actual fighting. The entire island and fortress are intact and original. The tour goes via the towers to the roof. The cannons were there to defend the water entrance. The cannons are gone, there is now an art gallery with works by stationed soldiers and war implements and tools on display. It also smells like the year 1700. You can climb the lighthouse from the roof. A beautiful place to take panoramas. The guide was perfect and knew everything. Was a former Marine himself. (Original) Magistraal. I would recommend to buy tickets both for this museum and Marine museum together to get the discounted package entry deal.

Very neat, very well displayed. Lots of world war era guns and paraphernalia, with technical descriptions. Ice cream and coffee is offered.

This is a great museum run by veterans who show the love they have for the subject in every way. Well worth a detour to visit.

I had fun the service was amazing and Thay had some storytelling about the museum and some history. Plus some things to try like a pair of big binoculars.
Juno B — Google review
An impressive collection to teach you the complexities of artillery, very interesting for kids and adults alike and a very friendly staff
Xavier N — Google review
An amazing museum, with excellent and knowledgeable guides. The museum shows the development of the Swedish coastal artillery, from its humble beginnings in 1902, with hand-me-down obsolete artillery pieces inherited from the navy and army, to its disbandment in 2000, when it was equipped with purpose-built, state-of-the-art guns, missiles and control systems. The museum is well worth a visit.

A very nostalgic experience! A military base and bunker in the middle of a small island in the south coast of Sweden. I went by bike and it was very desert (it was in May, perfect weather)

The Brändaholm Koloniområde, located in the picturesque Karlskrona archipelago, is a captivating island that can be easily reached by the HopOn-HoppOff boat from Fisktorget. Upon arrival at the beautiful Brandaholm, visitors will be mesmerized by the diverse range of houses that dot the landscape. Each house exudes its own unique charm and elegance, making it a delightful experience to explore them all.
A very cute place in the city Karlskrona! It's just a walk around place, nothing to do, just a 2-5mins walk but worth visiting. It has got red houses with beautiful gardens. Every house has it's own beautiful garden, well maintained and totally eye candy 💞 You will get to see many different flowers in there private gardens and apple tree for sure (I saw 5-6 apple trees and one pear tree). A cute place to have a walk!

Bastion Aurora was originally part of a series of fortresses planned around Trosso?. Although the full plan was never completed due to financial constraints, this fortress still offers a great viewing point over the archipelago and historical naval port. The provincial governor's house, Residenset, is located nearby. Visitors can enjoy a cozy and beautiful atmosphere at this romantic location, which is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Recommend to visit together with admiral statue

Beautiful.
Leo H — Google review
Bastion Aurora is such a cool spot to check out in Karlskrona. It’s this old fortification that somehow survived all these years, and it’s the only one left in its original form around here. When you get there, the views of the harbor and the islands are just stunning — really peaceful and perfect if you want to take a breath and soak it all in. I loved how the place feels both historic and alive at the same time, especially when locals gather for concerts or outdoor movies in the summer. It’s one of those hidden gems that feels like a real part of the town’s soul, not just some tourist stop. Definitely worth a visit if you want to feel the vibe of Karlskrona beyond the usual spots.

Impressive place with history. Recommended for visiting. And also it hints the fairytale about Nils and the Geese :)
Denis G — Google review
We came across this interesting statue of Karl XI while exploring Karlskrona during a cruise stop, and it immediately caught our attention—he has a definite pirate look about him that makes you do a double take! Located in the central square, the statue stands tall and proud, commemorating King Karl XI, the founder of Karlskrona. While we hadn’t planned to seek it out specifically, it ended up being a fun and memorable photo stop. The pose, the expression, and the styling of the statue give it a lot of character—definitely not your average royal monument! It adds to the charm of the city’s historic vibe and is surrounded by beautiful architecture and nearby cafes. A cool surprise find while wandering the town, and worth checking out if you’re in Karlskrona. It’s a great little piece of Swedish history—with a touch of pirate flair!

Beautiful place, just at the middle of the city.
Albert F — Google review
A striking and elegant monument right in the heart of Karlskrona. The Statue of King Charles XI stands proudly in Stortorget, and it really gives a sense of the city's history and importance. It’s a beautiful bronze sculpture, and knowing that he founded the city adds extra meaning to seeing it in person. The setting is perfect—surrounded by grand buildings like Fredrikskyrkan and Trefaldighetskyrkan—and the whole square feels like stepping into another time. It's also a great photo spot, especially with the wide open space around it. Definitely worth a visit if you're exploring Karlskrona’s historic center. A peaceful, impressive reminder of the city’s royal roots.

Denis G — Google review
A beautiful and fitting tribute to one of the key figures in Karlskrona’s history. The statue of Admiral Hans Wachtmeister is placed perfectly by the water, where you can really feel the naval connection. The sculpture itself is impressive—dignified, detailed, and full of character. It’s the kind of monument that doesn’t just honor a person, but also tells a quiet story about the city’s roots and its importance as a naval hub. The area around it is peaceful and open, with great views. Definitely worth a stop if you're walking along the harbor or exploring Karlskrona’s historic side.

Sprungen ur boken, staty is a small but beautiful monument featuring Nils Holgersson running out of the book "Nils's Journey with the Wild Geese" by Selma Lagerlof. It may be easy to miss due to its size and the nearby famous Rosenbom statue, but it's worth stopping for a moment to admire its simplicity. This literary character monument is a delightful element while sightseeing and serves as a nice tourist attraction.
Very nice sight. Our child and we are delighted. Near this place there is Rosenbom statue

Sprungen ur boken (“Sprung from the Book”) is one of those statues that instantly makes you smile. It perfectly captures the magic of storytelling — as if the characters have literally leapt off the page and into the real world. There’s so much movement and energy in the piece, and the whimsical design invites kids and adults alike to interact with it. It’s playful, creative, and a lovely surprise tucked into Karlskrona’s streets. A must-see for book lovers, dreamers, and anyone who enjoys a bit of fantasy woven into everyday life.
